For the Spinal Blades (the one I got really frustrated with because I want them so bad), how do I get to the TA Atherblade path?

You have an option of joining Caithe when you enter Twilight Arbor. That sets you on Aetherpath. It’s a poor option for farming though. Your best bet is to go after the aetherblades in Edge of the Mists. Better still, just get some spockets and convert them into shards at the mystic forge.

it’s because a good bit of the community doesn’t have a a sense of humor, overly sensitive, hate everyone but themselves, and think they’re so mature, they have to look down on everyone else, or they feel themselves are as smart as einstein. Honestly, those kinds of people shouldn’t be playing video games at all.

Even being the helpful guy I am, I have to admit to being in at least two of those groups. But I’m going to keep playing, because screw you

What I see a lot of on here that gets my blood boiling is all the kitten ed entitlement – players believing that they are owed something from either the game or other players that was never promised to them. This usually turns them into entrenched kittens with an inability to shut their mouths, and I have a strong tendency to reflect the environment I’m in (even if that environment is something as external and contained as an internet forum thread). Kindof a resonance chamber effect.

Tribal armor set

It wasn’t glitchy, the pvp wardrobe was like how the wardrobe is now. Just in like a test form.
Tribal Armor was named Masquerade because Tribal was taken for what you now know as Primitive. And what is now Masquerade was named something entirely different.
Anyone who wanted these skins, should have known back then PvP and PvE were completely seperate, and should have workes torwards ‘PvP Masquerade’.

Uh, how is that not glitchy? Items that were titled Masquerade and had the Masquerade icon unlocked Tribal armor. They even fixed the icon and name later because it was a glitch. But they fixed it after the tribal armor was attainable.

All the PvP items are still in the system (though you can’t get them). They still largely have their old names, and are still using the wrong ones in a lot of cases. Tribal being fixed is an anomaly. :/

It’d be nice if you knew anything about what you were talking about. There’d be a horrifying potential that someone could take you seriously.

A great example for this is the temple farm (where you buy obsi shards at end of event chain) which was destroyed shortly after megaserver introduction. At this farm you killed only the undead which spawned 3 events earlier and you failed the event over and over. A minority of people complained about it “because it blocks progress and we can’t go to the temple event, but we need these obsi shards”. Solution was that anet destroyed the farm and now the map is empty. Now aren’t even enough people there for the temple events….

Ah, Temple of Balthazar. Always do that one when I’m in the area. Haven’t seen it fail. Likewise Dwayna and Lyssa. I’m not in CS much, but the Temples are always going there when I have to stumble through for some foraging.

Same with coiled watch, everyone who “needed for LS” could have just guested on another megaserver instance (yes if you select guest on character select and just take any other full server, then u usually get a new megaserver instance!). But no, minority had to scream loud, and now? I have done this LS part 2 weeks ago again, it is closely impossible todo now because there is noone there anymore and for doing it solo it takes to much time…. great solution

Ah yeah. The same coiled watch that’s on the current Frostgorge champ train. Also never fails. Which game did you say you were playing? It ain’t GW2.

As for ‘guesting over’ of old, it usually DIDN’T work, and when it did, you run into this same kitten attitude there too.

The problem has never been that there are farms or organized groups. The problem is usually that a single player or a minority gets on these maps and thinks that all other 150 player have to work for their goals now.

Funny how that applies to a few select farmers (like yourself) who thereby think they can bully anyone that comes along that doesn’t want to farm. They just have to go along with YOUR idea of how to play.

You’re not the majority, btw. Most people just don’t kittening care and will listen to the loudest voice.

Best solution still would be to remove the event medals, because then it is not “blocking any progress” and these minority has to get silent then.

Ah, instead of making it 3 tiered success system, make it pass/fail. When pass/fail is generally what determines getting these achievements. So… no effective change.

How much more room do you have up your kitten I’m curious what’s coming out next.

Another solution would be to allow guilds to “create” own map instances where only people can join that are “allowed” (with lfg tool). …. Sadly anet will never do this, because then other content like world bosses would be done by players on private maps only too

Which can already happen. But generally doesn’t. Because farming these world bosses is mostly unrewarding or requires more than you can stuff in most guilds.

Having some items never come back and others only come back randomly without clear notice probably makes people more likely to buy things right away, which is what they want for gem store profits.

They may even reference this thread as a good indication that the strategy is working. :P

How would they profit if the said item doesn’t come back (for past 2yrs)?

As for some of returning items, often a theme is associated with them, such as GW1 anniversary, elite spec previews (hence the gs/quiver), events etc.

i dont want to give them any ammunition, but they would profit from the sales of other items. theres faults in that line of reasoning as youre still leaving money on the table from other items unre-released.

The chat link code for bunny ears got deactivated when they discontinued town clothes. If they would reintroduce it, the new chat code would have been data mined after the last patch to the client.

Is there actual proof he is dead? I know they have his tail but like a giant lizard he could have shed the tail and scampered off. Really, if I was going to kill a dragon and cut off something to show I did it I would cut off the head, not the tail.

If he is still alive it explains why Orr isn’t healing and the risen are still there.

How do we know he had ONE tail?

I understand the goal to make a distinction.

But wait a second here. Armor, which by all accounts, is more time-consuming due to making the pieces interchangeable, carries no monetization because it is restricted to in game, while one-size fits all outfits are sold for gems.

So the system sets things up so that ArenaNet does the easier thing and gets paid, but doesn’t if they do the thing that takes more development resources. Does this seem like a good idea?

Just because it requires more resources doesn’t mean they get devoted at the same rate. Try this:

“Outfit Team can make 5 outfits for all races in x time, which will bring in $5d. How many sets of armor for all races with accompanying events can we make in x time to stave off the inevitable accusations that we never give anything away for free?”
“1? Get on that, Armor Team, see you in x time.”

Probably the latter.

Also I love my ugly little Dark Moon Shield because of its smoke effect and no one seems to have it either. I guess I like my expensive skins too but they’re different. I’m most proud of being pretty good at PvP and being one of the few Rangers who plays competitively in the PvP scene (/cry give rangers buffs pls).

Actually most of the world bosses are just weak right now due to scaling. In the past, it was possible for Fire Elemental to be a serious threat, so much that 30+ players couldn’t kill it in 10 mins without suffering massive losses.

Not even. I remember the announcement when this thing got nerfed . Prior to that it would throw fire and place minions outside of its room, and it could one-shot just about anything in range.

The Fire Ele was severely overpowered, but the real difficulty in taking it down was probably the fact that more powerful players were way more interested in running around Cursed Shore, where all the goodies could be found 24/7. With the predictable schedule and increased rewards, it might be time to give Bernie a bit of his power back.

As a scheming pirate in every sense but name, he’s a perfect fit with the rest of the captains, and probably would be more comfortable with them than a reformer like Kiel. But the position brings three major setbacks: rules, dependents, and visibility. Not only is he not interested in the welfare of the people, being on the council would hamper him getting anything accomplished for himself.

The living story skins aren’t “locked out”, they’ve gone back on sale multiple times since they originally debuted.

Ah, yes, the Hero of the assualt on Lions Arch.

While chaos and infidels of every stripe and color were slaughtering the denizens of the city, Gnashblade bravely led his team of dolyaks to safety , boldly shutting the gate behind him so that no marauding women or children could follow to wreak havoc on their peaceful tails. With mere leagues between him and the destruction, Evon waxed wroth, valiantly cursing their mothers in hushed tones (because he is nothing if not polite) and raining a blistering shower of invective on Scarlet’s hordes.

Our monument to Evon needn’t be extravagant. We only need to sculpt his tail section (out of pure brass) protruding from a glowing purple disc, with the inscription, “OUTTA MY WAY, PEASANTS!”

Lions Arch Search and Rescue

Sariel V.7024

aka [MEDx].

Scarlet and her crue had waltzed into Lions Arch and suckerpunched it in the jaw. We all knew it was coming. The buildup of Season 1 was leading to it. Sadly, we also had a pretty good idea what its reception was going to be like.

It was a typical time in meta-game terms. Farming for champ bags and watchwork boxes was the activity of the day, and Get Mine First was the rule. This was visible most during the emergency response events. Ostensibly players would coordinate to shut down cells of Scarlets followers all over a particular map, eventually defeating enough of each faction to garner a greater overall reward; in reality, too many players clustered on a few cells, overscaling them to generate champions and champ bags, and left the rest scrambling to cover for their lost power output. Generally, they failed.

The Escape from Lions Arch was more of the same. Too many players in too few spots, doing nothing but going after champ bags while the city turned to hell around them. If you wanted drops, there were plenty of vastly overleveled enemies to make it a painful (but possibly worthwhile) slog. If you wanted to stand around the map exit, do nothing, and get paid for it at the end of the event, ANet obliged you with a couple loot sacks based on everyone else’s performance. If you were after achievements, well, you were screwed if you showed up after the second day; support from fellow players was minimal. If you wanted to experience frustration and despair, GAME ON!

Also, this was back before the megaserver was instituted. With the Marionette, many players guested over to the larger servers in hopes of finding success when their home servers couldn’t put together a decent fighting force. This also happened during EfLA, which allowed you to choose your mode of failure: with lots of people not helping you, or no one around to help you at all! The standout exceptions here were the guilds of TTS and TxS – the Anti-Tequatl gangs that took large-scale fighting seriously. Unfortunately, they also had a reputation for being insular and not particularly helpful to the playerbase at large.

After several days of being on the wrong side of this Prisoner’s Dilemma, Uranium Lobster became fed up. He sent out a call on Reddit for like-minded individuals who were interested in reversing the body count. His mission was to form a team running counter to the farming zerg, escorting civilians and pushing for a better experience for everyone in the server.

The initial run was small – seven heroes standing between the slithering, gibbering, screaming and clanking hordes and the cowering unarmed citizens of LA. This meager band was still able to add two hundred hapless civvies to the ranks of the rescued. Each iteration brought in more members, and the successes began to stretch higher. 800. 1000. 1200. There were enough players wanting to join the MEDx banner that they could have commandeered an overflow of their own, but instead they spread out their numbers over 3-4 servers so that more people could benefit. Before the day was out, they had established a European branch and reached the 1500 saved milestone that was eluding everyone except #1 server Blackgate and the aforementioned Tequatl guilds.

The atmosphere within the guild was pure enthusiasm. Rather than grumble about a lack of cooperation, [MEDx] set out to make a difference, and they saw the impact immediately. Following the parameters of the event actually helped one to feel they were accomplishing something heroic for a change, as opposed to being a glorified bounty hunter or monster killer – that much ballyhooed feeling of immersion (emotional investment) that players like to talk about but never really seem to understand. And after the first day, “Is [MEDx] here?” became a common call. With LA Search and Rescue on the scene, other players knew they wouldn’t need to stress out too much in pursuing objectives throughout the warzone; friendly coverage was usually near-to-hand, and even if they couldn’t contribute a lot to the rescue effort, someone had their backs.

Shortly after the fall of LA, [MEDx] fell apart. The central mission fulfilled, the individual members returned to their other guilds to assault Scarlet’s minions, never really looking back. Today, with Lions Arch rising from its ashes, I look back at that two week period with a sense of pride I haven’t really felt since. Yes, it was all virtual; I didn’t really save 500 grandmothers, a handful of charr, or enough children to fill a few schools. But we came together and made a difference during a particularly difficult segment of the game. Not too many guilds get to say that.

Here’s to Uranium Lobster. Maybe we’ll be called together again.

Due to the way the living story has unfolded, it’s not really possible for the Festival of the Four Winds to come back at all. It would break the game’s story.

However, the Pavilion itself could reopen as something separate. I just wanted to point that out.

Dragon Bash was supplanted by a combination of Scarlet razing LA and the return of the Bazaar of the Four Winds. With the Zephyrites scattered and recovering and LA on the mend, it might be time for Dragon Bash: Get Those Flying Gypsies Back On Their Feet edition. It’d be a perfect symmetry for the second festival being held with charity being extended to the refugees of LA.

Uh… were you actually playing at the time of Marionette? Note – Editted to highlight:

Want a list? I have played since the april closed beta, have been in live for 3000+ hours, and I can remember all my ‘good’ drops…. – I have never looted a precursor; I have never gotten a precursor from the Mystic Fountain in over 600 attempts.
- On average I loot 1 exotic item per week
- I have looted 3 ascended armor chests
- I have looted 4 ascended weapon chests
- I have looted ‘midnight blue’ (rare dye)
- I have gotten a handfull of ascended rings in PVP and WVW.

So you tell me….

Aight.

As noted in point #2, what the game considers lucky doesn’t necessarily agree with what a player considers lucky, because the game engine is agnostic of player value. You just demonstrated that beautifully. Your account looks lucky to me. You’ve got double the free ascended items I’ve ever received. We’re about the same on exotics and precursors. One rare dye isn’t particularly interesting, but I bet you have several others you didn’t think worth mentioning. How often are you getting rares that aren’t guaranteed? Lodestone drops in DT/SW/Orr? On the non-Magic Find front, get any Keepers recipes from Living Story 1? Azurite Orbs? Minis? Back skins?

Your threshold for ‘lucky’ is market value. Would you have called yourself lucky for getting a stack of crappy blue dyes before April 14, 2014? Their value skyrocketed in an instant, but that had nothing to do with their drop rate. ANet didn’t specify the value that they reached; that was all according to the whims of players who foresaw the spike. It’s the same thing with everything on the Trade Post. ANet doesn’t assign values there; the fact that you’re pulling in exotics and ascended gear shows that you’re winning those kitten loot rolls, even if you think you aren’t.

About two years ago, GW2 turned one year old and we were treated to this .

Now, while there isn’t a lot on display, and a lot of what is being shown is straight-up bragging on ArenaNet’s part, the information is still interesting. The art department put a lot of thought into presentation, and it demonstrates ANet’s capabilities for querying their data records.

When ANet turned 2, we got…. uh, nothing? :/

With the 3rd Anniversary coming up in a few months, I thought it would be worthwhile to follow up this article with something bigger, and open up the querying to suggestions by the players to see things they’re interested in. Something like:

Most damage in one stike (Who did it, which skill, what was the target)
Largest number of kills at one time
Most widely-used weapons/armor
Breakdown of race/profession
Most expensive trade
Most spawned item
Rarest item
Least likely animal to be killed
Most popular non-champion enemy
Completion rates of Living Story

Well, you get the idea

It says UP TO 4. This is probably based on number of targets available. How many were in front of your character when you tested this?

@John Smith

The equalizer already exists in the form of Magic Find. I’m in my third year playing and once got a look-alike of a precursor in Arah. So the chances are very low.

Still, every player has an opportunity to improve their loot through building Magic Find. Mine is at 169% at the moment. I don’t see why things need to be changed.

Normally I don’t endorse the more conservative type of opinions.. but in this case, I don’t see why people are complaining.

Please don’t remove the occasional lucky drops, they add a lot to the fun.

You do realize how that only influences drops off of mobs, not off of World Bosses, not from opening chests. Even if it does improve the system, it still falls way short. There are players who have been logging regularly since open beta who have seen zero drops of worth. No rare skins, no precursors, not even Ascended chests off of bosses.

1. MF does not affect champ bags, world bosses, chests, and most self-replenishing mobs connected to events (who drop nothing). It seems like the majority of players are farming champions, world bosses, chests, and events. They find MF meaningless? You don’t say…. maybe they should investigate what’s defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

2. What most whining players quantify as good luck is not the same thing as the game quantifies as good luck.

3. I find the assertion that any player that has been a regular player since Beta having had zero good drops to be absurd. Proving this would require more than their own anecdotal recall, which is highly biased to favor things that have ridiculous value on the trade post. There is more to having good luck than hitting the lottery.

Midwest. Pockets of 2000 ms lag in a relatively unmanned WvW map usually leading to disconnect. I miss out on entire events happening right in front of me.
