Just takes time and dedication. You can do it!

I didn’t have to retrieve my rifle after swimming, either. I was on my Thief; I’ve heard that Engineers have been a bit bugged there, and I have heartfelt sympathy for anyone that only has an Engineer and is thus barred from Princess.

I’m glad you mentioned that. I was using my engineer, because he is pretty mobile compared to my other characters. I took my Ranger and breezed through the rest of the collection.

……6 times made you rage quit?

There are far worse jumping puzzles in terms of clearing the start (Skipping Stones for example).

Do people honestly feel like they should be able to get through jumping puzzles on their first try or heck even single digit tries? I’ve done JPs that have taken me dozens upon dozens of attempts, and I don’t find that ridiculous in the slightest.

The difference here is three-fold:

1. You used to be able to enter by simply sliding in. So long as you entered from the right spot, you slid through without incident. Now regardless of where you start, there appears to be some sort of speedbump right near the end of the slide that means instant-death.

2. Failure at other JPs is rarely fatal and rarer still requires you to do a significant run to get back to your entry point. Usually a missed jump allows you to restart at some point in the middle.

3. You also now have to go back and get that kitten rifle, which can happen even if you survive the fall. Taking a dip will remove it.

Personally I figured we wouldn’t have it til next year.

Unexpected Deaths

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

I’m seeing a lot of what looks like the following:

Lag-induced death. When you’re on an elevated platform, you are at risk of the server re-establishing your position at ground level, which causes the physics engine to assume you fell the distance. The result is usually instantaneous and inexplicable death, plus the confusion between where your client and where the server thinks you are makes players unable to interact with your corpse.

If you’re in a JP or on some kind of ledge, and your connection is bad, you’re likely to see this happen. And lately, it seems like connections are getting worse and worse for everyone. My guess: either some hub sitting right in front of ANet’s servers is having issues, or ANet itself is. It’s been something of an epidemic for several months now, made obvious by the lightning jump in Sanctum Sprint.

The desync can affect you even if you’re on solid ground. This will cause you to be incapable of interacting with objects, and other players unable to interact (i.e. stomp) you. A dodge roll will force the server to resync you (once it processes it). Sometimes you’ll rubberband when you do this. Sometimes you won’t.

Charged Lodestone Price balancing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sariel V.7024

I know demand raises prices, but it seems more stuff requires this particular lodestone and it may drop the least. In my bank, it is the fewest and I haven’t used lodestones for any crafting. I haven’t researched this, but what do you think? Are things unbalanced right now regarding supply and demand over all the lodestones, or is just that this lodestone is used for the coolest stuff?

Scholar Runes requiring a Charged Lodestone to craft is where a lot of the consistent demand for them comes from.

While that quote from John Smith is correct on an economic standpoint, it is wrong on a game design standpoint. He’s [presumably] the one who keeps OK-ing more and more uses for Charged Lodestones, which continues to push up the demand while not adding any new supplies of them. People looking to farm Charged Lodestones are then forced into the rather limited areas of the game where they can acquire them, namely CoE (since open world farming for specific materials was nerfed to near uselessness not too long after the release of the game).

Combining two posts here to get the information together.

I think it’s just a case of it being the highest demand. As far as actual drops, these got an increase thanks to Dust Mites. If players focused on non-event mobs out in Silverwastes, we’d see more supply. CoE tends to give out cores, while the Mites give actual lodestones.

Stat Conversion Mechanics Not Functional

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

- Other stat conversions (a power to condition damage conversion will not benefit from the power from a vitality to power conversion)

This bonus definitely should not benefit other conversions. This is to avoid the circular conversion problem, where stat A gets a bonus dependent on stat B, but at the same time stat B gets a bonus dependant on stat A (or a longer chain that ends in a stat effectively getting a bonus dependant on its own value).

This is not a problem if the bonuses are multiplicative.

You have one option, and I doubt it will work: open a ticket with Support and ask them to send you an account bound copy of a particular skin that you have earned and are currently drooling over.

Why would you want to punish support like that?

Hmm. Take care of customer complaints. Their job. I’m seeing a connection. A nontenuous connection. Something they have done before for less deserving circumstances. I don’t see it as a punishment. It’s more like a…. hmm.. what’s the word? Responsibility? It may be one that occasionally sucks, but it’s one that they have committed themselves to doing. I tend to go light on ANet, but I still expect them to hold up their end of a bargain made.

I understand that this isn’t a fix. This is definitely a stopgap measure. But it’s one that Support has demonstrated they are capable of doing, it’s a quick enough fix (compare wardrobe and HoM points to rewards chart), it resolves the problem permanently for those involved, and it makes people happy.

I already stated it probably wouldn’t work, and that’s being bourne out by the few that have tried ;(

A pile of essence is a type of lodestone. There is one each for each kind of elemental and dragon. Essence is for Zhaitan.

We need solution to fix JPs and make them farmable, i enjoy jumping, and i feel i should be rewarded a little bit more for what i enjoy..

Some require boss fights, which require no special mechanics to kill it. Why shouldn’t i be rewarded for running JPs ?

You’re already rewarded for running JPs. If you want them to be ‘farmable’, bring different characters. Each has a crack at the chests along the way.

But you probably mean ‘farmable’ as in ‘dumps vast riches per single run’. Except for a small handful, JPs are easy. Most are short and have no monsters; some of those that do encourage you to run past them. They don’t need to gift a guaranteed rare/exotic every time you do them. Even if you couldn’t park a character or get a portal, that would still devalue the returns you get from them.

Old Precursor Skins

Hard to say. I know at least one expensive forge skin is being made into a drop, but that’s the extent of what I know. I figure these new precursor skins on old precursors are going to have problems at delivery time, whether we lose something we already have, we lose access to an old skin, or we don’t get the new skin if we had the old one or its legendary unlocked. There’s too much that can go not our way, and ANet’s track record on skin unlocks is checkered.

Slowpoke.jpeg - Destroyers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

Seems like you missed out on the story that happened between GW and GW2.

The Great Destroyer that was killed in EotN was not the real ringmaster. The driving force behind the Destroyers was a dragon named Primordus, and the Great Destroyer was just his lieutenant. Killing it set Primordus’ plans back a few decades, but eventually he rose from his slumber and returned to his plans of domination/destruction.

The dwarves had already turned into stone in EotN, and the transformation was one-way. They dedicated themselves to fighting the destroyers. 200 hundred years pass between GW and GW2, and as Waar said above me, Primordus is either winning the fight or has finally won. Thus some of the destroyers are reaching the surface. The dredge seem to like mining in places where they can be found, which is only speeding up the process.

TLDR: The game knows I earned certain rewards, why are they not auto unlocked in the Wardrobe?

The wardrobe has a certain set of mechanisms for determining unlocks, and having thrown away the skin before the wardrobe came into being pretty much eliminates them all.

You’re in luck, though, because you have proof that you had the skin at some point in time, and it’s account-bound. You can make a case to Support about giving you a copy of the skin since you deleted it. Your chances are pretty good.

On a side note, the backpack consumables entered the api recently. Not sure what exactly that means, because I’ve been holding on to my green one for forever.

You can limit what it points to in Options.

As for maps with lists of areas, wiki.guildwars2.com should be more than adequate. Many’s the time I’ve blown up their maps to full and compared them against the in-game map to find wayward hearts and POIs. If your game map is missing area names on the wiki map, then you haven’t been there yet.

Stronghold and the WvW changes are outside of HoT and their release dates need not be linked to HoT at all.

They better have the dragon ready. There’s going to be some tryhards that want to say they finished HoT in 3 days.

Sariel V.7024

I attribute that to ANet’s desire to cater to those asking for more challenging content. I don’t see that at many of the old world bosses.

So:

  • Players ask for harder content
  • ANet makes harder content and puts it in the persistent world where anyone can show up
  • “Hard” generally means “possible to fail.”
  • Not surprisingly, “anyone” does show up
  • Sometimes events fail
  • No one says, “Oh, this is harder and we asked for harder, so we failed this time.”
  • Instead, they say, “We failed and didn’t get our stuff!”
  • Then it’s, “I blame <insert scapegoat>.”

So, how much of that happened with the change of Tequatl and adding the three-headed wurm? Players still fail both.

The new LA Lighthouse name. :(

Sariel V.7024

I have 8 80s, and on each one I played through the entire personal story. Not once in the eight times through LA did I ever notice Tracy McGrady or whatever hanging out with his kid in a building shaped like a phallic symbol.

He was a permanent fixture of the southern end of town. He gave out speed boons if you managed to wander his way. He’s the type of NPC that is otherwise faceless and easily forgotten, like a named merchant.

I think the appeal lies in the fact that we identify with him to some extent. Grady was just a citizen, not military, not a member of one of the orders or the lionguard, and probably ill-equipped to take on Scarlet’s hoards. Despite that, he gave his life to help evacuate his neighbors and warn off any incoming merchants away from the harbor. He was not someone that had to remain – he had no one to answer to and he was in over his head. At his level, you didn’t see many examples of heroism.
