I usually play with my soldier gear in zerk runs. They don’t see the difference..

You don’t know that.

Just because they aren’t calling you out for it doesn’t mean they don’t notice something’s wrong. They probably just don’t know who’s at fault.

I doubt anyone would notice something is wrong.

100% guarantee you I would notice something wrong, I always do. This is why I don’t pug. You also have no idea if they notice or not, because they might just not want to hurt your feelings by outright calling you on it.

To me, there’s no point to pug when there’s such a high chance of getting burdened by having people using tank gear/traits expecting others to carry them.

If I’m ever in a pug, I just expect them to be clueless because even if somebody asks for good players there’s no way to guarantee they will get what they want.

It’s really unkind of you to disrespect people’s wishes on their LFG ads instead of just making your own groups with likeminded individuals.

Griefers gotta grief I guess…

To add to what Purple Miku said, runeblade, it’s players like you that make this problem worse.

Technically, how is it worse? He has a right to post in his LFG definition “zerks only.” If someone joins that isnt zerk, they have a right to kick. Its what the description is there for.

As for telling if someone isnt zerk. There are ways. First one is looking at HP. Find out what base HP of each class is at 80. If its over that base, they are using a non-piece of zerk gear. After that, if you are use to speed runs and doing them so often, you start ot get the feel and timing on how fast something is suppose to die. When you notice it taking longer, first can be said that another zerk just isnt as good as someone before. Next would be “not using zerk gear”.

So again, it comes down to people. If a LFG says “zerks only” people not in zerks gear shouldn’t join. And zerks who join a pug without a description or something that says “any spec welcome” should realize what they are getting in to and not complain.

But again, good luck changing people.

Please read more carefully.

I was telling runeblade that joining groups that he does not belong in only makes the problem worse.

On the LFG: Advertise your own party. Usually people who aren’t particularly looking for Zerker-Zerker meta put “P1 80 Exp”

But be careful, sometimes they are. The “Exp” to that player may mean experienced in that you know the meta and use it.

Best to ask at the beginning if they want all members to follow the meta. If they save you the time of leaving the group on your own, then so be it.

No.
If you want zerker say zerker. Even “speed run” does not mean zerker.

Do not be afraid to join groups because the meta-bullies might me mean. Every toxic person you meet is a glorious opportunity to block them and never have to be exposed to their ilk again.

Decent people can ask for “zerker only”. I join groups that ask for gear pings just so I can block them, and then leave the group before ever entering the same instance.

I was responding to a player that said that that LFG’s that just say “p1 level 80 exp” would be casual runs.

Since not everyone labels their LFG’s with every requirement they want for whatever unknown reason to me, it is not safe to assume that “p1 level 80 exp” means a casual run. It could be a zerker meta jerk being lazy.

You don’t have to ask them if they mean zerker. It’s their own fault for not asking for it.

No, but it beats getting half way through the dungeon or to the first boss and meeting a loading screen because they decided to kick you. Getting the kick over and done with due to their laziness saves time.

The more experienced meta players likely would notice the DPS doesn’t appear to be where it should. And there are some tells on what their build is. Such as signets and attunements.

Whether they care enough in a PUG run to investigate the cause is an entirely different question.

When 8 out of the last 10 pugs with a LFG message of “not a speedrun” leads to the players quitting because several paused to watch the cut scene or get booted by the meta majority who joined up anyways for slowing the group down then it seems like it’s not a minority who are griefing the non-metas.

At least my guild runs relaxed dungeon runs but the majority of them are in a different time zone so getting together during the week is tough so I resort to starting pugs but to no avail.

You do realize that groups don’t have to be speed run groups to have a preference to skip the cut scenes, right?

And please please stop assuming it’s the majority that grief. If a majority griefed then there would be a lot more threads about the issue. There aren’t. Therefore it’s not a majority. Which means it’s a minority.

Or at least if you claim the majority of elitists grief, then don’t complain when the elitists claim the majority of casuals grief them. Because I see equal amounts of complaints on the matter no matter what side a player is on.

Or you could create your own party in the LFG that caters to your playstyle. =)

Good luck.

thing is even if you do specifically state you aren’t going for a meta run with whatever conditions you prefer, the ’meta’s will flood your party and the tirade will begin at the first boss/first group of mobs that is usually skipped ( whatever comes first ). With the result of either the "meta"s leaving (if <2) or the non "meta"s kicked (>=3)

Stop assuming that all meta player’s are jerks.

There are a minority of meta players and a minority of non-meta players that join groups they obviously don’t belong in and demand the group cater to them. Be it because they were too lazy to read the LFG, wish to be carried, think that all players should play the meta, or wishing to troll the other side.

What is the shame though, is another minority of each side seem to think that those jerks are the majority of whatever the opposing view is. When in reality, they aren’t. They chase away the new players from dungeons, a majority of them not jerks, by their scaremongering: “you’ll get phiw’s who come in and demand you carry them or they’ll kick you or threaten to report you for griefing” or “you’ll get elitists who come in and demand that you wear zerker gear or they’ll kick you”.

It doesn’t prevent lazy meta players from joining you and once you are out numbered they’ll boot your butt for another meta. Or after the first boss they quit because you aren’t “fast enough” for them making the rest of the path near impossible.

Metas always complain that it’s the non-metas fault for joining their clearly identified meta team but none will acknowledge that the reverse is also true.

I acknowledged it.

There are rude people on both sides.

And the issue is compounded because not everyone clearly labels their LFG.

Start your own group and label it as anyone welcome. Or join a group advertised as such.

Some players prefer to play the meta and play with others who play the meta. Others don’t care. The two groups do not mix well at all. It’s like trying to force two of the same magnetic pole together. It’s very hard.

Stay out of their groups and label your LFG appropriately so that those who play the meta and want to play with others who play the meta know to stay out of yours. Then you’ll only have to deal with the minority of the meta players who are rude and don’t read LFG’s.

Also join a guild and run with them or find some friends to run with.

I am in full support for the OPs idea. Last saturday I got kicked from 10+ groups because i didnt have zerker or wasnt experienced. That also includes group I have started. last minute 3 members decide they want an all zerker party and kick other 2 out. I dont see a point in paying money to buy a zerker set just to run enough dungeons for 500 tokens for a legendary. Also looked into multiple ways of buying it and its all too expensive.

A- Achievement point dont mean jack. Players can have 20k and still not know how to play their class (i’ve seen it before)

B- Inviting players w/o a certain gear type isnt the end of the world plus the ammount of time it takes to find a full squad with a certain type u could probably run 2 dungeons.

C- Since when was 3rd party stuff ok.

I ran through enough CoE explorable paths to get my dungeon tokens for the legendary I’m working on. I didn’t buy a single one. I didn’t get kicked a single time.

When the party was full, I made sure to ask the group if it was ok that I didn’t have experience and that I was still learning.

I was never once asked about my gear or my trait set up. And at the time, I bet my gear was mostly zerker, but traited for my clerics gear because I had forgotten to switch the traits around for ages. So my DPS would not have been meta level.

i think it’s safe to assume that guild halls will be megaserver. I mean there is no point whatsoever in making them server based

Yes but one of the primary enjoyments of the guild hall would be claiming and organizing for WvW, which would be impossible for a guild that had members scattered that can’t transfer (due to server pop being full or the 1800 gem price being too expensive).

And of the Guild Halls weren’t megaserver, that would still pose a problem.

Your apparent desire for Guild Halls to use a system that ANet has retired except for the obvious location of WvW would only create issues for more guilds than it would solve. The PvE guilds, the PvP guilds, the general guilds that do a little of everything. All of those would be hurt by the decision to make guild halls server specific.

If a WvW guild has issues with members that can’t transfer spying and telling guilds on another server where your guild is going, then kick the spies. Otherwise there is no issue with megaserver guild halls.

B — [ expanded] create a Dungeon Group category for groups which must be active for players to enter a dungeon and armor linking cannot occur before one hour and ten minutes after finishing a dungeon.

Dungeon Groups must (as a category of group) must be activated 10 minutes before entering any dungeon.

Each consecutive dungeon after the first is completed may be entered immediately.

So I get a great armor drop in dungeon and can’t link it because of a stupid rule put in place because a minority of players refuse to read LFG’s?

Birthday Notification

Can you not just use the age command to figure out your character’s birthday?

Some people have a lot of characters. I myself have 12 slots for characters, and writing all their birthdays down, or logging in on each to see and figure out when they have their birthday would be quite tedious. There’s people with their slots filled to the max, for them especially it would be horrendous.

I too would love to be able to see the date on the character select screen.

They only have to do it once, there is this thing called a notepad that you can write down stuff you want to remember.

True. But having the age on the character select screen would be a nice feature. Wouldn’t be something I would put high on the priority list since there are ways to figure that out on your own.

[Suggestion] Buying Hero-Points

I like the rewards in the PvP reward tracks, but I don’t like to PvP. I’d like to be able to pay 5g to complete a PvP track and get all the rewards.

This.

If things are removed or changed solely to keep players from having to play content they do not like, then they might as well just auto-level everyone to level 80, give everyone every legendary out there, double of appropriate legendaries, full ascended gear and trinkets, and every other reward out there.

Because every aspect of the game that they do not like.

WvW was removed from map completion more likely due to the fact that they are going to add in a new map to the rotation and didn’t want players to have to wait for the right color and right map to come up, even the WvW players, than because PvE players didn’t want to play in WvW.

It’s a slippery slope when they change things so that players don’t have to do content they don’t like to do for rewards. When “I don’t like it” is the only reason they ask for the change.

If you want the Hero Points you have to go out and do the Hero Challenges. They aren’t meant to be something that you buy. No to your suggestion.

And you can unlock all skills and traits by simply leveling to 80. They would only need to go out and do Hero Challenges if they wished to do the elite specialization and had spent all of their Hero Points already.

Minimum Upbidding

Seera.5916

the min upbid also helps seller, just look at ebay bid price goes up higher than buy it now price all the time.

But bidding on ebay works like an auction house.

The Trading Post is not an auction house. It is a trading post. Hence why they called it the Trading Post.

You don’t bid on a trading post. You can’t use ebay’s auction parts to justify anything related to the Trading Post. Because the Trading Post isn’t an auction house.

You place orders. If you find your buy orders are constantly getting new orders placed that are more expensive even after you replace the order at higher than the one that out did you, then maybe you’re just trying to be too greedy too often (coupled with impatience).

If you feel the need to babysit items that are not super super expensive (like precursor level expensive), then you’re being impatient and should just buy the buy now order and not babysit. Unless the difference is super huge, you’re time babysitting the order could have been spent earning the gold it would take to make up the difference between your buy order and the buy now choice.

Minimum Upbidding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

I’ve seen this issue brought up a few times in the past. I completely agree that there needs to be limits up bidding players in the auction house. Up bidding by a certain % seems like a reasonable way of doing it.

However i also think that something also needs to be done to the other side with people down selling someone by 1 copper. It’s just as big of a problem with the auction house imo. Maybe use the same idea and have players down sell by a certain % of the person above them as well.

Implementing this to both sides of the auction house would be reasonable since you’d be sacrificing a fair amount of money in exchange for faster sell/buy.

That’s the thing, it’s not an auction house.

It’s a trading post.

There is no bidding. You don’t have to replace your buy order when someone sells an item do you? If it was an auction house, you would have to replace your order.

Time to not let people play anyway they want

Seera.5916

People need to really get a good grasp of the difference between viable and optimal.

Currently everything is pretty much viable. You can clear a dungeon with 5x Zerkers, and you can clear that same dungeon with 5x Clerics. That’s viable.

It’s faster with 5x Zerkers than it is with 5x Clerics. That’s optimal.

Enforcing roles or forcing certain itemsets other than zerkers (or other equally squishy sets i.e. Rampager) will diminish the pool of builds that are viable. But we will still be stuck with only 1 setup that is optimal.
And considering profession imbalance, this could very easily push certain professions out of being viable, or into very specific roles.

Even if say a zerker Guardian was viable, but Clerics Guardians were much needed, people would force Guardians to go healers because that is what’s needed and refuse Zerker Guardians on principle. Something i’ve seen all to well and all to often in another big, popular, trinity game.

Just be glad that currently you can play the style you like and still get through that dungeon just fine. That being said boss fights can certainly be a lot more interesting. Any fight that is essentially “solved” by stacking in a cornor and wailing on the AI for 12seconds is poorly designed. Currently that would include most bossfights.

You still aren’t getting it. If the optimal way would be let’s say 5 moderately tanky/supp/dps people for a pug, then it gives coordinated groups still the room to do it with let’s say 3 zerkers a tanky member boosting offensive stats on others and a support, and still pull of simular times, or maybe even better, because they are on ts and actively calling for things.

The point is that 5 zerkers works and destroys all combo’s possible.
The optimal way for hard group content should always be on teamspeak with people you know, having some sort of team build that works. If that isn’t the case something in your game is broken.

As long as the content doesn’t require specific roles in order for it to be done (aka, every group combination is viable), the meta can change until pigs fly.

You want the meta to change. I don’t think anyone has an issue with the meta changing as long as all group combinations still remain viable. Especially now that you can change the stats on ascended gear. You still have to rebuy/buy a sigil/rune, but it’s still cheaper and quicker than a whole new set of gear.

However, some people in this thread and the title of this thread, have been worded to make it appear that at least some in this thread want hard roles. They want some group combinations to not be viable. That’s who Terrahero was talking to. Not to you who seems to get that everyone should be able to play what they want, but just wants the meta to change.

Unfortunately to allow for more variety in the meta, it does flirt on a fine line of hard roles most likely.

Policy on the LFG Tool

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

Well, LFG tool didn’t exist when that Agreement was created and when the most of us accepted it by creating accounts. I agree it should be updated and then announced about the changes when they occurs. Also yes, I can’t understand why selling dungeon spots is allowed, it doesn’t feel fair for me. Players don’t “own” dungeons then they can’t “sell” what isn’t theirs. LFG is meant to be used to gather groups TO DO content, NOT TO SELL content.

They are selling a spot in a group to do content. The content they do just doesn’t last very long (they can’t give rewards to other players if they join in after the last boss is dead). They aren’t selling content. They are selling a service but not requiring you to be present in the instance while they run the dungeon.

So, by nature of your argument, they are NOT selling a group to do content, they are essentially selling reward for a part of the game in which the person did not take part/did have to put forth significant effort to complete, which in any other aspect of this game would be considered…what exactly? How is this different from selling a group to taxi, or farm if the individual paying is not actually an active participant in the activity?

It seems like they’re attempting to avoid scamming and non-use of the trading post, while allowing dungeon selling is going a step further and allowing the sale of non-trade-able items in a circumstance where scams abound. (Some of which could be mitigated with some intuitive changes in instances ownership and trading between characters like most MMO’s have.)

What I mean by “not selling content” are items that you craft or forge or receive as a drop.

They still have to do content together as a group to get the rewards. Some sellers do require players to help take down the final boss as well.

Taxis are probably grey area. They’re organizing big groups that expand outside of 5 members. So the group doesn’t stay together in a party for very long, but remain in the same map doing the same events and content.

And they don’t view clicking F together a few times as enough content to warrant selling a spot for.

Odd but it is a test character that will be deleted in a few days after all. Unless they are giving us something different than the usual heavy skins I am unclear why their would be a restriction to only one race as there is no difference with other professions. If you play, say, an asura most of the time playing another race for a test would not give you a good feel for how the character compared to what you are used to.

Starting gear that is selected during character creation most likely. They may not have finalized the look on other races yet maybe.

So is Anet going to ignore these problems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seera.5916

Seera.5916

ANet doesn’t ignore problems.

They release a patch and get bug reports. They sift through and remove the reports of things that aren’t actual bugs and either go: “X bug is still happening” or “we’ve got a new bug Y.” The new bugs get assigned a priority and get added to the list of current glitches they are working on. Some old glitches get bumped down as more glitches with a higher priority get added.

Some high priority glitches probably stay awhile due to complications that come up with trying to fix it. Either they can’t figure out the cause to fix it or the fix they try breaks other stuff.

Hidden thief may be a glitch that they can’t seem to find out what’s causing the glitch or any fix they try to implement breaks something else or makes the problem worse. Or things with a higher priority keep coming in.

Just because a fix doesn’t come in quickly, doesn’t mean they are ignoring the problem. It just means it’s a combination of difficulty and priority levels that are keeping it from being worked on at a pace you would like.

(a) That the offender’s avatar is silenced from the POV of the person activating the block.

(b) That the offenders avatar, items attached to that avatar, their name, titles and any sound and particle effects that they may be employing are also nullified (vanish).

© That the person who blocked them is made similarly invisible (as described above) as well so that they cannot be the focus of continued abuse by the offender.

These solutions would not work in PvP modes. How would one handle it if two people who blocked each other are sitting in a capture point if they are on opposing teams? If I’ve blocked multiple people, which person is it?

Report, block, ignore. That’s the solution. If they continuously harass you, collect evidence and submit a ticket to ANet. You won’t be able to attach the evidence in the initial report, but when you get the automated reply back, you’ll be able to attach the evidence in a reply.

You say you’re an open world mapping guild.

Do a run through X map event. Be it a low level area, mid-level area, or high level area. Open it up to non-guild members and advertise that your guild will be in X map during Y hours on Z day. Who knows, you may get a few new guild members along the way. Maybe do this one day every week. Don’t repeat a map until you’ve done them all! Yes, the lower level maps may be easier for you, but you never know what you may have forgotten about or missed the last time you were there.

You aren’t recruiting directly, but just letting lurker players know that if they have a hero challenge they need help with, a good time to be on that map.

Organize dungeons tour over the course of a week or so. One or two nights per dungeon. Story and explorable. Your choice on what rules (if any) for the dungeon runs. Or say once a week we do a dungeon. Dungeon with most interest wins, unless you did it within the last X week(s). Story and explorable paths are open that day. Help members get their Dungeon achievements.

Do several days of FOTM. Help your guild members raise their Fractal levels.

Nothing said " I love this game " like genesis to some ones face in wvw " Also be prepared to fork out some Gems for an outfit on the gemstore as mine didn’t like any of the starter ones.

I also got right into the beautiful places in the game and just got wowed by it. The hidden bamboo room in the grove is easy to find. The pirate jumping puzzle in LA. Hoelbrak is pretty as ****

And take her to the new water park in Gw2 called Lions Arch. You should be able to get a lot done there. Also take her to jump off the lighthouse and watch her face. .. you’d thank me later.

Classes I have seen played most by girls is the Elementalist . If you can avoid her choosing it really do. The problem is their attacks are hard to control at first and you keep hitting random animals that keep attacking you and will make it hard for you and her to fight at low level .

Female guardians look pretty cool but my Gf has one Asura Ele ( i wasn’t warned ) but now prefers her norn warrior.

dual axes is the easiest weapons to start of with and add bow so she can fight at range .

Can share a lot of stories with you and if you are on the EU server our guild has several couples that play together and could easily help you out if you are without a guild still.

But good luck sir and enjoying the game together is amazing. And got a lot to thank Anet for in that regard. As im a pretty big gamer and she really wasn’t . So being able to game together has been A M A zing

Unless your GF is the type to want the challenge, Elementalist may not be the best choice for the first character. I specifically chose Elementalist because it was harder. But I like challenges. And I knew if it was too hard, I could use one of the other four slots for another character of a different class until I got the basics down.

I personally didn’t find Elementalist so hard that I kept attacking creatures I wasn’t wanting to hit. Except due to me continuously mashing 1 throughout the entire fight and hitting 1 after the enemy died and my character shooting off a fireball at the next closest thing. But that could happen on any and all professions if you’re using a ranged weapon.

So what one person finds hard about a class, another may not.

Actually you can trogdor, it does require a support request though I believe, due to it being an irreversible action and them needing proof that it’s the legitimate ownership making the request.

And can you post a link to a thread that says so by a member of ANet? Gaile has posted on numerous threads that it’s not allowable unless the name is a security risk or inappropriate. Such a full name. Or a name that would end up censored on the forum for a good reason.

Please make sure you’re actually reading before jumping to conclusions.

Also you can’t just close your account.

Maybe you should make sure to read, too, or better word your posts.

JustTrogdor also talked about changing display names.

Since this thread was titled Display name availability, since you didn’t specify that you were referring to JustTrogdor’s paragraph about account closure, I assumed you were talking about the topic mentioned in the title of the thread: Display name.

Maybe you could just ‘Teleport to a Friend’. ; )

All major Cities have a Waypoint unlocked…as soon as you enter them through the Asura Portals. (Find them in LA!)

Good luck.

All maps have one waypoint unlocked when you enter them. The one nearest the Asura gate or map portal. So that just in case you die, you don’t have to go to a completely different map to revive yourself.

add more languages with new expansion thx

English is the current Lingua Franca so no doubts there. I’m betting the other language support exists because it makes sense in the markets where GW1 was most successful or where they want GW2 to be successful. Has little to do with the most commonly spoken languages, otherwise we would see Spanish, Hindi and Arabic … but we don’t.

I think it’s definitely a matter of which languages are the most widely spoken in places where GW2 is sold.

How does this explain why we don’t see Spanish and yet have French? I think that Anet are a little more selective with their language choices based on regional success of GW1/2 because they actually have the market data to suggest what languages they should support, not based on how many people speak those languages where GW2 is available.

I think it also has to do with the idea that Anet already had made investments into specific languages in GW1. It’s simply a matter of using those assets in GW2 as well. I would find it really hard to see how Anet simply implements the most popular languages in places where GW2 is sold, It might be available, but we have little idea if that makes it popular in those places to justify the cost of implementing in that languages

We do have Spanish for GW2.

Wow, that’s a really long response ~~ Honestly I’ve read all the reasons why it can’t/probably won’t happen, and I do understand them. I was simply replying to THIS comment you made.

“So they can get the rewards again? No thank you.”

It makes it sound like you are very concerned with the rewards for the personal story.

As I said, for many vet players re-rolling a character doesn’t take that long any way. As I said legends and ascended gear are acct bound, exotics are commonly called “easy to get”, obviously you would lose soul bound things (That’s why I specificed acct bound things would not be lost).

Because as Charrbeque pointed out, several are fairly valuable. Such as crafting materials and black lion chest keys.

Is Doing Map Completion a Waste?

The only waste I feel, is you get one char to 100% World Completion, why do it on your other chars? After doing it once, wouldn’t you feel it’s nothing but mindless grinding if you do it again on another char?

More gifts of exploration if you’re looking to make legendary weapons. Some people are in the sole business of making and selling legendary weapons.

Some people want to make the ones they use and have more than 2 weapons they want as legendary tier. So they have to complete the map again to get more gifts of exploration.

Some players just enjoy the process of map completion.

It’s also a nice goal to work toward when you aren’t really focusing on anything else in particular.

I would have to agree with the OP in that the pre-purchasers should be the first pool that they send the “special invites” out to. It is not wrong to feel that being a loyal customer and putting your hard earned cash out there before you actually receive the item will entitle you to a front line status. That being said, I bought the Ultimate edition and am just happy to support a brand I love. I did not buy it to be in beta weekends. I bought it because, I love the game.

How do you know they didn’t first look at streamers who had pre-purchased, then active WvW players who have pre-purchased, then to the next group, and so on and so forth? And got a reasonable sampling from each group.

Why should players who won’t get HoT be at the bottom of the list for a WvW oriented beta/stress test when WvW updates will be given out for everyone regardless of whether they buy HoT or not?

the game needs to expect an excellent comp to balance accordingly.

i agree that instanced PvE content needs to be balanced around an excellent comp (meta builds), because if you balance for 20 different stat combinations and include stuff like nomads, the instanced PvE content will always be a joke for the above average player. but i dont agree that the excellent comp is a trinity comp.

you dont need a trinity to design complex encounters and everything you do in a trinity game can be done in gw2 without a trinity, because each player in the party contributes to everything, instead of having dedicated roles.

you dont really have to be a genius to understand how gw2 works, why its great that way and why a trinity or hard roles or w/e you call it will not make it more interesting at all. if anything, it will make things less complex, easier and take away depth.

agreed on the instanced part, thats what i meant to specify.

but you are wrong that hard roles arent in gw2 they are. you can find them in wvw and spvp. its not always 3 roles, but they are there and distinct. those roles make these game modes more complex. no specific team comp is required but a certain outline is encouraged. the developers even mention that this specialization could work great as a bunker or dps or roamer.. clearly defined roles are on their minds. they just havent been able to make it work in dungeons.

Then that’s not a hard role. A hard role is one that is required by the game, not by players.

And defined roles also do not equal hard roles either.

There are only so many character slots available and if you delete/remake the character then you lose anything soulbound to that character. You either pay for a new character slot (time or money) or you give up the soulbound items and perks (crafting disciplines, birthday rewards reset, etc).

Hmm right, but that really has nothing to do with personal story rewards.

The cost of what it takes to reroll or make a new character also covers the personal story rewards.

A race changed character would also be able to complete the story faster than a rerolled or remade character. Which could be viewed by some as pay to win.

Not to mention simply restarting the personal story by itself has proven problematic for ANet. They’ve got it so hard wired into the character data that any changes tend to cause problems up to and including permanent blocking of progress in the story.

Then there’s how to deal with racial armor that’s currently equipped or been transmuted onto armor that’s been equipped or otherwise soulbound to the character being changed. That’s a lot of code that has to be added to the game and all sorts of places where problems could happen.

So it’s a lot of time to implement and quite possibly increase of CS response time due to increased tickets from problems arising through race change. That time equals a lot of money, and who knows how common race changes would be so they’d have to be really high to be feasible and then people would complain that it’s too high and they might as well just reroll or remake the character.

You do get spirit shards now. Also, you can’t make Legendary’s without it – you need the Gift item.

You do not get Spirit Shards for XP in any way, period.

I don’t think that’s what MashMash was saying.

MashMash is saying you still get spirit shards (he didn’t say from what though). And that you need them for legendary weapons.

Then he went on to say that once HoT comes, XP for level 80+ will turn into Mastery experience.

I believe they said they will increase the rate of dropping of what used to skill point scrolls. Which automatically get consumed and stuck in the wallet (Yay! less clicking!). Knowing how some people can get into a bad streak with RNG, ANet did add in some ways to guarantee getting spirit shards: Dailies.

And whether they’ve got the drop rate set at a good spot is unknown and likely something that will take time for the devs to figure out while people generate data for them to analyze.

a slap to the face. regardless of what hand it is still a slap to the face……they new what they did… and they know we want to test this out.. it like waving a steak in front of a dog then slapping it with it. its gonna attack u for what u did.

This stress test was announced to happen before prepurchase was available, and at the time they already made it clear they wanted active wvw players to test it.

Neither is this test even a beta weekend event. Had they said “access to all bèta’s”, you’d have a point. But they were very clear (for once) that this was about beta weekend events. Something that has been clearly defined in the past.

It doesn’t mean you have no chance of getting in, just that it’s not guarenteed. And if anet sticks to what they said (for once), being an active wvw players increases those chances.

Yet the guy they gave the beta keys to is not an “active player”. He’s some kitten that happens to stream and has people who watches his channel. He has barely played this game, and doesnt really know WvW that well. It would have made more sense if they got true commanders that had been in this game since launch, are pretty exclusive WvW, and know what to be looking for.

Instead they went with people to help them PR push. Yep… GG Anet, yet again.

How do you know his streaming account isn’t a secondary account so that when he wants to play his main account and be left alone, he can?

And how do you ANet gave all spots to streamers and not just a handful?

Race change on gem store/black lion chest?

Race change could be done and there have been a million suggestions on how it could be implemented.

I don’t remember even one suggestion that offered a sensible mechanical solution. In fact, most “solutions” concentrated only on how it were to look from the player side.

This.

No player could have offered a mechanical/programming solution because no player knows the inner working of the programming.

Let’s elaborate a bit on that by looking at what is probably the most common player solution, ie. reset personal story on race change. Firstly, this kind of solution faces the same problems as allowing players to replay personal story (because that is what this solution entails) and secondly, there are bunch of minor things the choices in personal story affects, including the state of your home instance (yes that thing you only visit to mine some daily nodes, if even that) as well as numerous open world interactions related to the choice of order to join in particular.

These things seems so minor that they are easy to gloss over from players point of view because they are barely seen by most players. The problem with all of this boils down to the fact that they would have to reset your character state, but also hold partial records of every one of the previous states to an extent (ie. avoid re-earning rewards for example).

One thing to consider, when the story journal was introduced, they wouldn’t or couldn’t (because of it being either technically impossible, or cost prohibitive) allow parts of personal story to be replayed, if they couldn’t do it for the story journal all the same reasons would apply to race change.

Profession changes on the other hand, while probably easier would have a set of their own problems (namely to do with gear, and that one ultimately insignificant choice in character creation).

This doesn’t even touch on any potential design reasons against them, see Jon Peters post about why Hero Points can not be reset on demmand… of the top of my head I can’t come up with parallel for race change but that is because I too do not know how the inner systems interact with each other or have enough information on the desing behind personal story now and at launch as well as how the system accommodates for that design.

Reset personal story to zero when race is changed.

So they can get the rewards again? No thank you.

So you’re saying that the press invited to the beta aren’t veterans of the game themselves? That somehow being a LP’er or a streamer invalidates any veteran status you have?

And how do you know that if they have 102 spots (number divisible by 3 for WvW balance), that they aren’t just holding a few spots for the “press” and the rest are for WvW players?

Yep, I’ve looked, I’ve also been looking at a lot of the [suggestion] threads flooding the guild wars 2 discussion posts.

Honestly the reasoning

“The Suggestions sub-forum has been archived and is read-only. We’re directing players to leave feedback & suggestions in the sub-forum which best fits their topic. As example, if you have a sPvP suggestion, we ask that you post in the sPvP sub-forum. If you have a crafting suggestion, we ask that you post it in the Crafting sub-forum. This ensures that the Developers on these topics will see it. For all topics which do not have a specific sub-forum, you can post in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum, which all our Developers visit.”

Makes some sense, but at what point is it just flooding other forums? I just don’t really think having suggestions mixed in with general discussion increases the ease of visability for devs and other players.

It keeps the devs looking for generic suggestions from having to sift through WvW, PvP, profession oriented, dungeon, etc suggestions to find relevant ones. It reduces the number of threads that just say: Suggestion. Reduces the number of suggestions that cover multiple topics.
