Yeah, you don’t need to target anything to use Charge. Auto-target is awful and will likely end up getting you killed some day when using abilities like Rush. I’d just turn it off.

I enjoy 20/30/0/0/20 with mostly zerk/knight in PvE, using greatsword and whatever you need at the time for your swap. You’ll melt enemies and if you’re smart with your evades/mitigation, you can overcome some pretty crazy odds by yourself, from champions to large risen swarms.

Long story short I remember that I could steal boons while fighting a guard that had popped Save Yourselves. I stole his retaliation and protection, and it left me feeling sorry for him.

Don’t feel sorry. Guardian badly needs a “nemesis” to punish them for the ridiculously forgiving nature of the class itself. It makes me laugh that you’d steal those two especially, since they both offer benefits to the player for being so inept as to take a beating in the first place.

No to this! This would probably spawn another currency and this game already has too much.
Keep it simple and keep it so that the player does not have to do anything other than play the game.

This is a total red herring. Possibly two in the same post. It has nothing to do with additional currencies or doing anything other than playing the game itself.

To me the guy wearing MF is a far smarter player than the person not wearing it…

Why, because they’re leeching off of the rest of the dungeon party or because they’re under the delusion that it’s actually helping them while they farm when it’s all just total RNG anyway? I wear 0% MF. Zero. I get rares – even exotics – out the nose and have found a precursor like that. I see someone wearing MF and I see someone who says, “I’m willing to let the rest of the party carry me because dungeons don’t take my full effort when I have teammates to make it go faster.”

Don’t even get me started on the people who walk around in MF gear or stacks of Luck sigil in WvW. They may as well be walking over to rally the enemy themselves.

Stealth and why it reduces depth and skill

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sil.4560

While Stealth may have a bad rep, at least now the tech’s there for countering stealth (there’s a bonus in WvW with AC that has the force removal of stealth, I believe, but it takes a lot of points). It’ll only be a matter of time before classes have an implementation for it.

This will be a glorious day, when the untalented baddies can no longer have an instant get out of jail free card when they’re getting their kitten kicked and want to flee.

Honestly, there isn’t anything that they can give warriors that would make me worry about them. If they got protection, like boon hate, it will probably be placed in the most kitten place in their trait tree thus allowing you to ignore any warrior that actually specs for it.

Good, then you’re okay with more buffs then. ;3

Guardian's class will be uselees?

Sil.4560

Guardian is fine. Boon hate is still a mechanic that needs work to deal with things like protection. Some topics of discussion that have gone on over at that warrior forums are things like a global reduction to protection to 25% or 20% for all classes, limited access to protection, giving boon hate protection stripping/ignoring properties, etc.

The goal with all of this isn’t to make the guardian – or any other class – useless. Nobody wants that. We’re all just thinking of ways to make our favorite class a) more competitive and b) more interesting. Anet said in the past that they’re not going to try to balance us in a single patch. I’m expecting more patches in this direction, along with minor tweaks to the last patch, none of which should be making guardians panic nearly as much as they are. Relax. =)

…let’s just say I use WvW to fulfil my player-fighting desires, and the stats available there make it more viable to have good damage/resilience without necessarily constantly replenishing your health.

Definitely agree. Melandru/Grass/traited horn lets me faceroll condition builds, and in the inevitability I get focused in WvW, I can speed out, dump half of my conditions on the ground or convert them to boons, then rush right back in seconds later. We’re actually viable there, unlike the unbalanced catastrophe that is PvP.

If warriors were given one added boon...

Posted by: Sil.4560

Sil.4560

That’s the common argument, yes. However I think it also needs to be considered how much access classes like that have to the boon in the first place. If it’s up 50-75% of the time, they may as well have just given those classes a buttload more armor to begin with, because that’s the effect it has.

While it’s great that Anet is finally trying to balance us, I think that instead of the lazy +3% damage route, they should just attack protection directly. Retaliation already got its nerf; protection could stand to go down to 20% or Destruction of the Empowered needs a property to strip/ignore protection, be it via burst skills or what have you. A mainhand mace attack or something like the greatsword burst would be my candidates for this.

Retaliation, while okay, doesn’t fix our defensive problems. Either they need to give us some versatile options so that we can build more defensive if we choose, or they need to make our methods for overcoming defenses with overwhelming force just as direct as that idea itself.

I wouldn’t mind a protection nerf to be honest. I also have a D/D ele who would suffer from it, but I don’t feel like it would impact my play much and might bring damage received more in line in modes like WvW. I’d like to see protection as a whole get scaled down a bit and have more skills like Frost Aura which have an independent damage reduction for like 10% or so.

This makes me feel even better about running full melee and surviving for 7-8 hours at a time.

Personally I don’t even find Dogged March necessary between Melandru, Lemongrass, and my warhorn conversion. If only it reduced stun duration by a small amount also…

Protection, so that I can get the HURR DURR extra armor that other classes like guardian can cheese behind constantly. You know, the boon that makes eles, a light armor class, more durable than warriors on many occasions?

If not that, then I want a trait or skill that ignores or straight up rips off protection from my enemies. A 33% damage reduction is just absurd. If our high damage is supposed to be balanced with our enemy’s high defense, why is it our side lacks the sustain? Something needs looked at and I feel like this boon in particular has always been the place to start.

Can or should we expect to see anything from this skill? It has always been useless. It’s slow, gives next to nothing for its buff, and I do more damage using Rush than blowing my entire adrenaline bar on the attack. Has there been any mention of making it more of a viable skill (for any mode of play) at any point? All this time playing with greatsword and it still feels completely weird to have that one icon up there that I’ll almost never, ever use.

Quality matters.” A tad rude, no? That’s all I’d mentioned. I’ve been posting again because I still would like to get the rest of my message across, despite their unexplained problem with my posts. Who knows. o_O

Anyway, my problem with your viewpoint is that by your logic, increasing the damage of any given class by a single point is a “buff” to be considered, no matter how utterly inconsequential it may be. Whether a class was improved or the number of times they were improved isn’t really important, but the effects on the popular usage are. That’s the whole reason they’re patching at all, isn’t it? I’m not arguing semantics here, I’m pointing out a clear difference between the narrow interpretation of a term and how we should really take it with regards to the big picture.

It’s just that I’ve seen so many people say that warriors, for example, keep getting buffed, even though most of the patches haven’t given them anything of much substance. If that makes sense?

Irrelevant. It’s still boost a trait/skills.

The spirit of a “buff” is that it’s an improvement worth using. Keep whatever narrow definition you want for the sake of being right on the internet. I don’t really care. What I’m saying is that the quality of patch notes matter. Nobody cared when Rampage got updated; Dogged March is actually relevant. Across different patches, Frost Aura got buffed, while Ride the Lightning got nerfed – what’s the net result? Buff or nerf?

I’m not interested in playing semantics with some dude over the internet. The spirit of a buff is that it gives you something worth using. Quality is important…otherwise it’s a lateral movement. Agree or disagree, there’s zero need for that tone in your post. Enjoy the patch.

Sil.4560

Agreed. To be honest, just brainlessly spamming as many boons as you can gave way too much reward for what it actually requires of a player. This might be the first step in making bunkers like eles and guards actually watch what they’re doing with those instead of just carrying this “MOAR BOONS GOOD” mentality. I’ve got a D/D ele taht I really enjoy, but I agree that it’s waaay too easy to just stack up all of those buffs with no real threat to them except for something like Corrupt Boon.

Double axe or GS?

I just run GS/Axe+WH for most of PvE, although in places like fractals and dungeons I’ll swap the horn for a shield or mace, or swap both out for a rifle or bow, depending on the situation. Nothing wrong with carrying extra stuff in your bag.

If you were curious at all, Paul, I run mostly Zerk/Knight gear, though I left the legendaries as Soldier with the swap offhand usually as Valk. I really enjoy this setup and have been using it for as long as I can remember. Very high damage, but more survivable than your typical pure glass setups while still encouraging an active and attentive playstyle. =)

PvE? I don’t care. We didn’t need buffs there and most enemies don’t really have all that many boons. If they do, it’s going to be like a single one and possibly protection, at that. At 30 points in Disc, I can’t see why anyone would take it to improve their PvE damage.
