Stop moaning about dueling builds that are uselsss in tpvp.
If it pains you that much to lose to a dueling spec, roll a warrior with signet heal build and never die to them anyways even if you can’t kill them.
Or you can reroll necro/engi and murder them with aoe condi spam.
PU condi doesnt lose to Necro / engi not even Close lol

Quick Pockets (init on weapon swap) has had a stealth nerf: 4 > 3 init.

Welp, my 0/0/30/20/20 build is destroyed by this. Now I either gotta put 30 points in Acrobatics for this by sacrificing 10 points from Trickery and Bountiful Theft, meaning no more Vigor and extra dodging, or I have to leave it as is and no longer get that extra healing from Assassin’s Reward, which really helped me since I was running a regen build. My Regen build is now nerfed in survival, I’m sad…
It should haves stayed at master and they should delete hard to catch altogether.

My problem is that I would never need Bountiful Theft normally, but since I’m regen build, Vigorous Recovery cannot be procced by Signet of Malice. Meaning I have 0 vigor without Bountiful Theft. I also lose some condition damage if I take 10 out of Trickery, something I don’t want because it gimps my only source of damage output, my conditions. But if I don’t get Assassin’s Reward, my regen is kitten. And taking 10 out of Shadow Arts is not an option, since it takes out the regen in Stealth and that badly needed toughness. Either way, this change has officially nerfed my build…and pretty much the only true regen build I could do.
you could get Pain Response instead to get the regen boon. I know it’s not as good as A reward but hey atleast something… Also gives more condi cleanse.

All the builds which got buffed by this patch didnt Need the + ini anway so they are basicly the same as before. On the other Hand some builds which relied on the active ini gain got nerfed.
This was obvious for quite a while now… (ever since they released the patch notes)
Of the coms i have played under These ones stood out the most:
Richmong, Golden Horde
Sacrx The Machine, Red Guard
Xerkulle, The Balkan Legion
Assyl, Option
The problem is that the devs think lowering the skill cap as much as possible is going to make the game better. They want to attract casuals to pvp by dumbing the game down so much that someone who has never pvped before can play a couple games and be near full effectiveness. This is why any time a build comes around that is high risk high reward, they nerf it to the ground and simultaneously buff the mindless builds of the class. It’s unfortunate, but so is most of what these guys do. I think they are going to be in for a real shock when another mmo with pvp is released and they actually have competition.

It’s supposed to Interrupt which it does really well… i dont really get the Point.
How is SS superior to HS when u want to Interrupt a heal? Or a res / stomp?

nobody complains because that mesmer spec is not viable in tpvp. too much stealth to hold a point, no grp utility, too slow to roam. in wvw you can troll ppl with it, but as soon as someone decides to ignore you, he can just walk away and you will never catch him.
i love my thief, i almost exclusive play thief, but truth is…most proffesions /specs can not run away from a bursty thief.
0 30 30 10 0 is not viable in tpvp either …
i agree tho, its, much easier to run away from a condi mesmer than it is from a thief… but then again its much easier to kill the thief than the mesmer…

I would have to say the high toughness, and high number of condition applier builds are pretty much OP at the moment, which includes some Engi builds.
Since this thread starts with “How do I beat…” I was wondering if I could throw in my own request/question out there.
I consider myself a pretty good thief as well, but have come into a snag when fighting certain Mesmer builds. Mainly the high toughness, high condition applier builds (like this one https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Build-The-Blackwater-Mesmer-Condition-WvW/page/7#post3248822).
Does anyone have any advice for fighting and beating a Mesmer that uses this build or something similar? (using any weapon set but P/D).
I have a PU condi mesmer and from experience i can tell you that i have not lost a single 1on1 against a thief. 95% of the time i dont even have to try… but then again 95% of the time i dont even have to try against any class / spec on my mesmer…
If the mesmer is decent all you can do is run away… there is not a single thief build out there that can effectively beat it. I always foundf that to be funny, People Keep complaining about op thieves but then again there are specs like this which nobody seems to care abt even tho they are borderline broken. (talking WvW here)
P/P was broken befoyre already (not saying they should break it even more)

P/P lacks 2 of these and does 1 subpar, thats why it’s bad.
11k Unloads are unrealistic in sPvP and even in WvW (maybe if u kill a lvl 2 upscaled you can pull it off). But even if you could do 11k Unloads consistently you would still lose most 1on1s because you have ZERO defense.

No, I am saying that I don’t want the balance of the thief held hostage by a 15 point minor in critical strikes so we need to take that initiative away from there and put it into the base class mechanics, which is exactly what we are doing.

What about shadow refuge then, this class has been held hostage to that skill since release and it’s still not being nerfed.
And what about the balance of venoms being hostage to a 30 point trait, that’s fine i guess, they suck on their own but they can potentially become useful (let’s be honest, you WILL nerf devourer venom to 1s immo per charge sooner or later, that’s just how it works because of this broken trait).
I understand your choice with ini regen, it had to be done, but the compensation are poor. Honestly this class is a mess, most weapon set doesn’t make any sense (scrap everything that isn’t s/p, d/p and shortbow, trust me that’s just how bad it is, you can even include the sword stealth skill), some utilities sucks (venoms and traps mostly), traits are aweful (there must be 3-5 worth trait by line and i’m generous). Really, you’re better removing this class for a while and rework it, i wish i was joking but that’s just how bad it is.
I have to agree with you here… in every traitline there are 3-5 traits that are so much better than anything else you’re bound to pick them.
I kind of agree with most of the changes even tho im quit concerned what builds we will have left in competitive Play after. The only one that Comes to mind is 10 30 0 0 30 d/p burst and a VERY VERY good played S/D thief but other than that… maybe venom share but that build is flawed because the supporting traits are in the wrong traitlines… they should be in acro / trickery imo
I fail to understand where the ini boost (a welcome Change i like, boosts the build im playing but even with more ini it will never be competitive because it lacks 30 into CS… something to think abt here devs… and no, not because lack of ini, but lack of damage…) opens up more builds because even if you Play D/D spike or S/P or P/P or anything else beside D/P and S/D, more ini will not Change the fact that most weapon sets we have are downright broken and thus will never be played at a competitive Level. Like why would you Play D/D spike over D/P spike? Or P/P over SB as off Hand set? Or why would you ever bring a condition build (whether P/D or D/D) when engineers and necros do it so much better.
This whole Balance patch feels like you are taking options away from us rather than opening up new builds… i remember Powerr screaming MASSIVE buffs in some other thread i would rly like to know which builds you are testing internally with These changes…
P.S. Hard to catch?! I mean really?! That trait can downright kill you. Why should i ever pick something that can possibly kill me? Arent traits supposed to help me… this trait should be removed and changed with something else…

I have recently installed Win7 on my Laptop and copy pasted the GW2 folder from my desktop (works perfectly fine there) onto my laptop. When i try to start the client on my Laptop it crashes permanently.
Both Desktop and Laptop are Win7 64 Bit.
I attached a .txt file which contains the error log, the forum wont let me post it directly into the topic because it would be too long

I have been hardcore solo queueing for some days straight because i wanted my Champion Shadow title and you always face the same people over and over…
It’s nut just skill lag which is a huge problem itself.
Since the season i dc a lot for no apparent reason even when im alone and the map is pretty much dead (i transfered to vabbi because the game was unplayable in t1, and yes i have skill lag in vabbi too even tho it’s not as bad as t1). Today i dced 7 times in the period of 3 hours gametime. Good god there is no queue on vabbi at all. Still quite annoying.

Thanks Ross, my friend will certainly appreciate this as he’s already keen on Mesmer. I can figure out most of the build from the vid, everything except your armor type >.< (it clearly doesn’t have vit so I assume Rabid of Knights maybe mixed with serkers).
As an aside I find it mind boggling that anyone does this ‘secret build’ nonsense in 2013 (in the old days it made far more sense because in the internets youth people didn’t figure out builds/strategies in games for yearsssssss, so you truly had a leg up if you knew a secret noone else did). But with the internet/forums/youtube thesedays there are undoubtedly already plenty of people already playing the identical prismatic triple stealth spec to you, so why not help the stragglers learn :\. Totally your prerogative though. Thanks for all the help.
Lastly I am curious if you think anything ‘beats’ the prismatic mesmer build, or is it in your opinion the best 1vX build for WvW?

It has its strengths, but personally I think its weaknesses make it weak to the point that it fails under various circumstances (cant chase or cc for example). Can it be beaten? I dont know how other classes are faring against it right now. I do know that since it cant escape, once in a fight Blackwater is in a fight to the death. That puts the power in the mobile opponents hands imo.

He did it by watching vids and trawling my forum posts in which he gathered enough clues/info to do so. So it was kudos to him, I linked him the build and we had a good discussion on mesmers currently. There are benefit to sharing builds for critique, and so players can expand their thinking. I’ve offered builds in the past. However most players just grab onto the build of the month and never explore anything for themselves. Thus why we have build desolation within the ele and ranger classes, for example. Nobody’s exploring possibilities right now.
That is not true, the blackwater spec ( its 20 20 30 one rite?) can escape very well because it utilizes a lot of stealth… (decoy, torch #4, mass invis, veil… you also have blink). I recently started to run it on my mesmer once i got Traveler runs and omg this spec is strong (and a kittenton of fun to play)
It is strong as I acknowledged, and yes stealth helps with escape. However 25% speed from traveler runes doesn’t hold a candle to the the movement speed/chase of other classes let alone a thief. And you’re right to ignore any mention of Blackwaters ability to effectively and consistently chase down an opponent. So yes, what I’ve said is completely true. The author of Blackwater himselkittennowledges these limitations.

The reason why i didnt comment on the chase part is because i agree, it cannot chase effectively. It’s still the strongest 1vs1 / 1vsX spec i’ve played so far. (if there are better let me know, ill try them)
It’s all the passive effects that saved your kitten 100000 times, not your personal skill. That’s the thing what bothers me with warriors at the moment. They require almost 0 skill, only thing they need is a good build, correct gears and being able to time 1 skill: hammerstun.
Heavy burst will outshine Signet of Healing every time. As shown several times when his health dipped below 50% and had to water blast with the help of the engie. He also timed his dodges well. I hate people getting worked up because Hammer/Mace and a bugged sigil came into the limelight when it’s always been there. Stop throwing around the phrase “No skill” It’s very worn out. Eventually some other class will get buffed, and they will take no skill, and the next and the next, and so on. Just… stop.
God forbid his health dropped to 50% while tanking 3 people…
OT: Good video that warrior is played pretty well also nice teamwork there with the engie thumbs up… what bothers me tho is that 9,9k crit while still having that kind of sustain… my full glas thief cant hit that hard and dies in 2-3 hits lawl… anyway nice gameplay
What’s wrong with dirty fighting? Here’s the thing: If you’re going into combat against someone, whether it be in real life, or a game, you’ve decided that you want to overcome them. Throwing dirt in someone’s eyes and stabbing them in the back may seem dishonorable compared to an open duel to the death, but the end result is fundamentally the same: your opponent is defeated, and likely had the means to stop you.
If you’re going to engage in combat, what you’re doing is both a physical and mental arms race against your opponent. You strive to be faster, stronger, and better geared, all while trying to outwit him as well. If you sneak up on an opponent and catch him off guard, that’s his fault for not watching his flank, or getting tunnel vision, or one of any number of faults.
You don’t win games by preparing yourself for battles you can’t win, you win by preparing in such a way that counters your opponent. I’ve seen some truly awesome point defense (saw a video where a guardian preemptively predicated a fully stealthed team strike and popped his heal to block THE ENTIRE NUKE), and good players will set themselves somewhere they have a large terrain advantage in. There’s nothing wrong with this: it’s the nature of the beast. Honorable combat is fun and all, but if you’re playing SPvP for it, you’re playing the wrong game. This is about teamwork, hit and run tactics, bursts of damage, and clever use of terrain. Organized teams, the ones this game is built for, don’t have issues with overwhelming zergs or the like. They learn how to combat these tactics and adapt.
to me thats called being smart, crafty, tricky, etc, not dirty. and once again its not the players i am criticizing, it is the game mode that promotes it. if 3 players turn a corner and theres 1 enemy of course they will all smash him to pieces. if you run up on a 1v1 of course you are going to help. its dirty but thats just how the game is played because of the way it is designed.
my focus is on the 3 node conquest mode and too many visual obstructions. it removes frontlines and results in constant backshooting and people popping up out of nowhere and overwhelming smaller numbers. if there werent so many obstructions you could see people come and you could disengage, that would be skill. but as it is 3 players pop up from around the corner and blast you away in seconds, thats called random luck and is not fun. if there were front lines and less obstruction backshooting would be rare, but with 3 nodes people are running around everywhere resulting in this all the time
and this is my complaint, not that it occurs at all, but that it occurs almost every battle and the main crux of winning is not personal skill, positioning, constructive teamwork, but instead its who can get the most backshots and who can waylay the opponents with superior numbers. though these should be a factor in the game, it shouldnt be the most important factor
most (if not all) good teams have a bunker on their home (most of the times it’s gonna be a spirit ranger) so if you want to backcap that you have to either 1on1 (you accomplish absolutely nothing if you cant neutral the node or kill him) that ranger (goodluck) or 2on1 the ranger, but if u 2on1 on far u have less people on middle or home and you will be outnumbered there. See what im getting at? It has it’s downside too. Ofc if u leave ur homemode open for a thief to decap quickly (it takes like 10 sec in foefire for example) then you got outplayed…
in my opinion there is only 1 prob with stealth in this game
the amount of heals they are getting while constantly stealthed.they have HUGE burst dmg ? fine
spammable stealth ? Finebut kitten the healing is too much you got him down to almost death ? no prob stealth spamm and full hp again while he constantly opening with Huge burst dmg on you you got him almost again ? stealth full HP again hoops you died now……..
That is because his Heal was ready… (you know he can use it while stealthed, and he also has a heal that stealthes him… on 30 sec cooldown)
A thief traited for it regens 300 per sec if we go by base hp 10,8k (most thieves run around 15-18k) it would take him like 35 seconds to go from 0 to 100%… yea kitten OP regen….

20 20 30 0 0 Sword / Pistol Scepter / Torch condi mesmer (this is probably the strongest 1on1 / 1onX spec i have played so far it is pretty laughable how easy it is to melt faces with it)
0 10 30 0 30 M/S GS Warrior
30 10 0 20 10 Condibunker Engineer
10 0 0 30 30 Double S/D / Double D/P Thief
There are several specs that can kill them, or atleast force them to hide in stealth 24/7 without being able to do anything. The spec is not that strong, it is very predictable unless we talk about a 10 0 0 30 30 D/P spec.

If i see my teammate 1on1 someone on a neutral node in a ranked match ofc i will help my teammate burst that guy down as quickly as possible so we can secure the node for us and you know, gain points in order to win.
Ranked matches arent about the 1on1s its about getting to 500 before the other team does. If i want fair 1on1s ill go play on a duel server, its as simple as that,

Fractal Weapons. Since the introduction of Fractals, players have been suggesting a fairer and more rewarding way to get a hand on this (Weapon Boxes, Tradeable for Relics, MF recipe, etc. etc.) and rightfully so because this is the most laughable system i have ever seen in a video game. Yet there has never been a single word to all these suggestions, not even “Hey Guys, we like the way these Weapons are currently implemented so we wont make any changes to the system!”, nothing. Not a single word.
Collaborative Development, where? This is just one of the many examples…

IMO it is fine the way it is except for the fact that skullcrack needs a MUCH MUCH more obvious animation (especially on asuras)
atm i have no idea if the warrior has missed his skullcrack and it’s on CD atm (my window to dps without fear to get stunned for 4seconds). If they give it a clearer animation i would be fine with it.

I saw the video and the commander and a couple others said dude go somewhere else and were being rude. Pretty sure if had not tag up he would break the rules and receive a 1hour ban at least. The arenanet employee were just playing the game as intended.
