I find this to be insulting. Gem store should be for convenience, not P2W. I get that they want to make money, but this is just going on a path that will make many people say goodbye to this game, myself included. And people are already spending insane amounts of cash on the gem store as it is.

Please remove the bonus sprockets or add this exact bonus to EVERY EL pick (or same-chance in-game pick).

You might not have more skills but I think you actually have more options in GW2 than you did in GW1 at launch.

For example in GW1 rangers had 75 skills (Core + Prophecies only), a grand total of 1 weapon choice (the different bow types only changed how far the arrow went) and all the pets were functionally identical.

You could also have a secondary class which brought you a new set of skills. And you could change your secondary class with no problems.

If you want to do investments like this, the name of the game is KEEP COOL.

This is one of the nicer ways to make money in this game, but you need money to start with so you can invest.

Make sure you buy the stuff when it’s at its lowest. For example, buying the Holo Dragon Wing covers at 17g was a bad investment IMO because it came too late; I bought a few when they were 5g, towards the end of that LS event. Sold for 4 times that much after taxes, so a decent proffit. I was sorry I did not buy more at the time, but you never know how these things go. Now I have a nice amount of the Wintersday ascended recipies, waiting for price to go up a bit more.

You should also be prepared to lose money, especially while you’re learning the ropes. I am still sitting on 10 stacks of orichalcum which I bought at ~13g per and which will probably never go that up again. Ah, well, they will be useful for legendaries and other shinies.

Don’t be too greedy. It happens for an item that has potential to go up more, but it suddenly plummets due to various circumstances. If you get several times the value you put in, sell. You made your proffit and you are avoiding the risks. It may go up, but you don’t have to worry about it anymore.

And, above all, keep calm and don’t panic sell.

I believe the next dragon death will be a massive world event, a better version of the Marionette fight. Maybe even at the end of a world dungeon, a better version of the Nightmare Tower.

This would be FANTASTIC!

But it will never happen. A new dragon is too major a boss to be used for content that is only temporary.

But maybe we’ll get to kill Primordus’s, Mordermoth’s or Bubbles’ champions like this?

I’d say easiest is warrior, but it all really depends on her. Maybe melee-up-in-your-face gameplay is not her thing. The only way to find out is to test them all, and that can take time.

You could try and present all classes to her, there are tons of vids on youtube. A look at the armor galleries would also help. After all, she is a girl…

Dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkyFallsInThunder.8257

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

In PvP max gear is free, so are runes and sigils. Everyone is equal in terms of gear, so it’s just the skills of the players that are important. It’s the best place to duel with someone IMO.

If duels would be introduced in PvE, then the person with full ascended gear would have the advantage over the person with lesser gear even before the duel starts. Not fair.

Besides, in PvE you’re supposed to help out other players and be helped by them in return. Running around and suddenly seeing people fighting one-another kinda ruins this.

Keep it civil. Take it to the arena.

I really don’t see how an elementalist is more mobile than a warrior. If you run greatsword/sword+warhorn, Bull’s Charge utility skill, Signet of Rage and have the speed buff trait, nothing this side of Tyria will catch up with you if you decide to get away. Of course, this is not your regular fighting build, unless you do WvW roaming, but you will use greatsword a lot on warrior and that will be enough for awesome mobility.

You should try more classes out, see which one is best for you.

For awesome dual-wield-charging-into-battle, go warrior or thief.

Learn how to dodge properly.

Use gathering tools, they help a lot. You will get extra XP and stuff you can sell on the Trading Post.

Explore as much as possible, get as many waypoints as you can – it helps travelling faster. Try to fully explore areas, you will get a nice reward if you do it.

Learn how to dodge properly.

Join a guild that is willing to help new players out. Most are, but it never hurts to let them know your status.

Learn how to dodge properly.

Use the Trading Post to sell stuff and always check your drops there before merching or salvaging them. You never know when you hit gold. Press O and then select the Sell My Stuff tab, it will show the prices for each item that can be sold in your inventory.

Always do daily achievements – 5 of them done each day get you a nice reward. Also do monthly achievements, they give you an even better reward but take longer to complete.

Learn how to dodge properly.

Do not throw away hard-earned cash, let it stack until you have figured out what you need to buy.

Open your achievement tab and try to get some of them done. Every 500 achievement points earned you will get a very nice reward chest. 500 seems a lot, but at first you will get tons of achievements done very easily.

Learn how to dodge properly.

You don’t need to travel to cities in order to access your personal bank. You can do it in explorable areas, too, at any crafting station. Interact with it and you will have tabs there for bank and stacked materials.

Do all the events that pop near you, great way to get XP.

And beyond.

Welcome to the world of GW2, where most your skills are decided by your weapons.

Most classes have the ability to swap weapons, so you get double the number of skills. Eles have 4 attunements, so 20 skills. Engineers have the utility belt which is rather nice. You can also change your utility skills how you like and they add a certain variety. At level 8 you don’t have enough skill points to unlock them all, but you will, eventually.

You will also get an elite skill slot at level 30 which you can fill with any of the WIDE VARIETY of elite skills. 3, to be exact. You also get 3 more elite skills which are race-dependant. So a total of 6. But wait! If you bought the Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Edition, you get a…

drumroll

SEVENTH ELITE SKILL!! A 16% increase in the number of elite skills you have! WOW!!

Sorry about the negativity, but it was a big let-down for me to go from the hundreds of skills from GW1 to… this.

I didn’t suggest the game in its entirety is like real life and I find it hillarious that you suggest that I did. Alas, people will always understand what they want and not what is.

There are definitely aspects of the game that are quite simillar to real life. They come from the heavy human interaction that all MMOs have.

And I was referring to people who quit the game and came back and are now QQ-ing, not to new players. In all fairness, I did not think about that. I would imagine that, for them, the LW is just a train that they hop on. They can read all about it on the website and if they want full detailed information, there is the wiki. And they can continue with it when they buy the game.

Where should I use experience boosters?

They only give you more XP for each kill, they do not affect events, hearts etc.

Best use for them is to go to areas where you kill as many creatures as possible, as fast as possible. Dungeons like AC or HotW come to mind.

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

I don’t see how this is needed. It’s not like this content is hidden, everyone receives e-mail notifications and a short description of the event. If they want to play, they can log on and play; if they don’t, they don’t. It does suck for the people who want but can’t for various reasons, but, c’mon, this is just like real life.

For example:
There is a sale at that shop you wanted to buy those awesome video games from, but you are gone for a vacation and when you return the sale is over; do you complain to the management that they should find a way for you to be able to benefit from that sale? You can, but you won’t get anywhere because it’s just silly. It was there, open to anyone and the people providing it did nothing to keep you away from it. You missed out? Tough.

The QQ about this is getting tiresome.

People should really stop seeing themselves as the center of the universe and the logical targets of everyone else’s thoughts and deeds.

Coming back to what this thread proposes, the OP does suggest a reasonable solution to this issue, but IMO the resources needed for this would be better spent MAKING THAT kitten ED EXPANSION EVERYONE WANTS!

Lvl 40 Warrior

in Players Helping Players

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

You should use the traits “Join the Queensdale train to level up faster”, “Start playing WvW to level up faster”, “Do map completion to level up faster”, “Craft like a madman to get 10 levels from one profession taken to 400”, or any other such trait that you feel is to your taste.

The point is – get to lvl 80 and then worry about your build. Before that you don’t have access to top gear and it’s really not worth it to invest in lower level max gear since you outlevel it in a few days and then you need to buy new one which you will again outlevel etc etc.

I think I just put all my points into Power and Precision traitlines when I was levelling my warrior, the first 2 from the top. Maybe add some toughness for more survivability if you feel is needed. As for traits… Just use the ones you feel help your playstyle most; you don’t have access to some traits, anyhow.

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

I had the same issue with a friend who wanted to send me ~650g so I could buy Dawn and finish my legendary. In the end he just bought Dawn for me and sent me that by e-mail with a short note about why he was doing it. This was some 2-3 weeks ago and neither of us had any trouble. I would suggest the same to you, if possible. If not and you must send the cash, you can either contact support and tell them about it and see what they say, or send the cash by mail with an explanation note and hope for the best. Is this an older friend who you have chatted/played with a lot in the past? If they check the logs, will there be evidence that you guys are friends and not just selling/buying gold? If yes, then I don’t think you should worry and just go ahead and do it.

And even if you do have trouble, both of you can simply explain to them why you did it so they understand this was not an attempt to sell/buy gold. I don’t think their goal is to prevent friends from pooling resources or lending/giving cash to one another.

Help me decide race!

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

Since there are no discernable differences between the races, choice of it is only cosmetic: choose what you like. Open up one of the websites with all armor skins, grab a cup of tea and start browsing.

It’s really all up to you and your own tastes.

I, for one, have only human characters. I simply cannot relate to any of the other races. I desperately tried to like the Charr, I loved them from GW1, but I just cannot play one. I made a character of each race and got them all to level 25 to get their respective race achievements, but then I deleted them. In hindsight, I am now sorry that I did not buy a full set of tier 1 armor for each of them before deleting, so I could get those extra achievement points; ah, well – maybe I will do it again in the future when I will be bored. I’m glad the other races are in the game, more options to chose from are always welcome, but it’s just not for me.

CoF drops Molten Cores and Lodestones. I also got some in SE, but I think they were from champ bags.

I’m not sure that atm it’s worth it to convert cores into lodestones, you will have to check the costs.

You’re better off just buying them imo since they are 60-70s per and you only need 100. Spend your time better by doing dungeons, world events and champ farming, if you want to add up the cash. Crafting ascended mats, or some of them, might still yield 1-2g proffit per, btw.

quick newbie questions on server selection

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: SkyFallsInThunder.8257

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

You can simply wait and try every day to make your charactaer on Blackgate. There’s no telling when you might manage to slip in. I used to be on EU server and then transfered to NA Jade Quarry some 10 months ago. I had the 1.800 gems but I had to wait a few days of spamming before I could make the transfer.

There is no limit to your play time regardless of how many people are online. You can log on anytime and be able to play anything. There is only one exception – WvW. The 4 maps usually have a queue, though only the Eternal Battlegrounds one is always present and can be a bit long.

You can guest from any server to another (EU/NA distinction still applies), but you only have 2 guests per day; once you log out or even go to character selection screen, the guest pass is revoked and you need to use a new one).

You can transfer your account at a later date, but it will cost you 1.800 gems, which is not exactly little. Once transfered, you can make any new chars on BG. You can also transfer for free if you delete all your characters, but that is up to you – I would never delete mine now that I invested so much time and resources into them.

And to answer your last question – join Jade Quarry now for daily BG bashing!

Warrior if you also want to deal some damage. Just use Knight’s set and you’ll be fine.

Both these classes are very wanted in PvE, be it FOTM or dungeons. Just keep in mind that more than 1 Guardian per party is usually meh, while more then 1 Warrior per party is always a win.

New player-Different Servers

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: SkyFallsInThunder.8257

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

All servers have good and bad people, good and bad guilds. You just need a bit of patience to find what you are looking for.

The only advice I can give you is to join a T1 server since there you have all your options open. After playing for a while and seeing what you like and what you want to do, you can take a more informed decision.

New To Game

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: SkyFallsInThunder.8257

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

You should join a T1 server imo. These are all very high population servers and you can always find people to play with.

It would also be cost-effective – if you don’t like it, you can transfer to a lower population one for ~1.000 gems. But if you want to transfer to a very high population server, the cost is 1.800 gems.

And maybe you will want to get seriously into WvW, in which case the choice is obvious. Long queue times don’t matter that much imo (especially since they are not as long anymore as they used to be) because they are mostly only for Eternal Battlegrounds, so you can run around in the Borderlands and have WvW fun while waiting for the EB queue…

New Player Here

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: SkyFallsInThunder.8257

SkyFallsInThunder.8257

Why go for second best when you can go for the best?

The queues are mostly only for the largest WvW area, Eternal Battlegrounds (EB). I am from Jade Quarry and I can tell you they are not so bad anymore. The worst was during the Season, when everyone wanted in to get their chievo points and everything was a mess. Now it’s much better – worst EB queue I got was ~30 mins. Besides, while you wait to get into EB, you can simply go to a Borderlands (BL) and have fun there while you are queued for EB. And since there are three BL, you will always find one without a queue.

And joining a T1 server is best for PvE, too, since there are always tons of people online.

I think dungeon runs are the best way. I do daily SE 1, AC 1&3, CoF 1 and HotW 1. SE 3 is also pretty short and I heard CoE ain’t bad.

I get ~10g overall, solid cash.

Sometimes there are lucky drops, too. In order to make this “sometimes” appear more often, you should put yourself in as many situations where you can get lucky as possible (champ loots, dungeon chests, world bosses etc.).

If you have no other business for laurels and don’t plan on saving them, you can buy t6 mats with them – 1l = 3 random t6 mats.

My advice is to first level them to 80 so you can experience the full benefits of the traits. Then, when your build is set and your armor, runes, sigils, accesories and weapons are adequate, you can make a competent assessment of how a class truly is.

Also, regarding rangers – I don’t know about sPvP, but they are pretty awesome in WvW roaming.

And the whole time Anet is looking at the stats and seeing “oh hey, people loved playing _”.

I don’t think the metrics that ANet has from their own monitoring of the game are conclusive to what people liked to play, just conclusive to what people actually played. I played through a lot of content I did not like just because I wanted completion and the AP, and I sincerely doubt I am alone in this.

I loathed every second I was in the Tower of Nightmares and I felt the sky fell on me every time another event popped and I couldn’t go further to reach the top before I finished it. But I spent some time there doing content just to get the achievements.
