Smooth Penguin.5294

Mainly the complaints will come from people who have a hard time doing the new content. We saw that pattern with Tequatl v2.0 last week.

Tequatl was an awesome update. I’m sure Scarlet won’t be a let down as well. And yes, these past and upcoming updates are all permanent.

Don’t forget the posts like “I am a solo player, I refuse to join a group, how am I supposed to run this dungeon? Why, ANet, why?”. Just wait.

Oh, and of course, “My party was full of n00bs, I just wasted 20 minutes! Why would you do that ANet?”.

If you say, “I am a solo player” – group content isn’t for you. Scarlet’s last mission let you choose to go in solo or with a group, so there’s no excuse for not being able to do it. As for having a poor group, all you can do it find another one.

It’s true Vol. Anet revamped Tequatl from what was once a cake walk, to something that required skill and coordination. I can respect the fact that some people have had a really hard time doing it. But it wouldn’t be a challenge if there were guaranteed paths to victory.

We’re getting tons of updates for free. It’s giving us stuff to do, whether it be updated bosses, or side adventures like the Super Adventure Box. I’d rather be given small additional content every 2 weeks, than to wait a year for a new massive expansion or similar addon.

snip v2.0

The reason why I’m so adamantly against this idea is that Turret gunners are part of the mechanics of this fight. You take away those duties, and leave them to NPCs, you basically nerfed the fight. It takes no skill to just defend NPCs that shoot Teq. They auto aim at poison pools. They auto attack to take off Scale stacks. Then this turns into a basic zerg Teq up front, only with a side quest to defend the Turrets. Sure you can add some portable poison pool removers, but you still took a key part of the fight, and watered it so low, that the fight is no longer as challenging. It would be like asking for the Liadri fight to have a solid ground so you can see all the red circles, and no exploding clones that track you.

I want people to win this fight, but not at the expense of mechanics. You win this with talented players who organize before the fight. Not by lowering the difficulty scale or by bugged timers that freeze.

By the way, with competent people on Turrets, if you lose one or two, you’re not in so much trouble. But for the sake of your troll gunner scenario, if someone is effectively camping on one, just let that Turret break. Don’t heal, don’t Cleanse, don’t defend. Once it breaks, you can have a guy stand by while you repair. Then have them jump back on. Takes only a second to rebuild it, not like WvW where you need to charge up a build.

Guild Missions can be fun when you have 100 people from multiple guilds running around, trying to organize by Map Chat. One of the drawback to this would be that your server couldn’t guest over to help different servers with the event. You have some selfless people starting Teq killing guilds to help across servers. Not often will I see community cooperation like this.

Again, I’ve read it, and you keep thinking that the whole fight is centered on 6 people. Let me explain some of the strategy involved.

Turret gunners: Yes you need 6 competent people manning the Turrets at all times. Cleanse is important, and Scale stack removal is important. These are part of the main mechanics of the fight.
Turret defenders: You need around 10 people on each side to defend. So that brings the total people to 26 in the back who are vital to the fight, not just 6.
Teq attackers: You need as much competent people up front as possible. You need Warriors with banner rez. You need Guardians with reflect. You need Eles to drop Icy Bow and Fire Greatsword for DSP. You need Mesmers for Timewarps. You need players who understand when you jump the wave, and when to dodge through the wave.
Finger hunters: You need dedicated group to take out Fingers quickly. The less Fingers, the less poison circles. The less poison circles, the less Cleanse you need.

Everything is connected. If any one of the groups above fail, you all fail. That’s what’s this event is all about. It’s not just about the few people who man the Turrets.

As proof, I’ll offer you this. I’ll join your server for a Teq run. Get all the guildies or smartest players possible, and put them on Turrets. Get the best Commanders to lead the fray. But what will I do? I’ll drag the most funnest Champion that can spawn, the Corrputed Grub, and put him in the middle of your main zerg.

If I were to do that, I assure you that Turrets are the least of your worries. You can’t Cleanse the poison AOE that the grub spits at you. You can only try to pull him away, as killing him takes away DPS from the main group.

Note – Of course I would never do that in a run. This is a hypothetical scenario to explain to you that with what only you think is important, there are many other factors that determine a win or fail.

Smooth Penguin.5294

The way I see, and this is probably were we differ, is that Turret gunners are a part of the group. You have North and South gunners, with someone usually in charge of the area. If one Turret is broken, someone is there to fix it. If a finger AOEs the Turret with poison, the call goes out for a Cleanse (i.e. North Middle needs a Cleanse!). The total sum of the individuals involved in the fight account for the overall victory. Failures in ANY part of the fight can lead to a loss.

By making Turrets NPC controlled, you are essentially “nerfing” the event, since then the computer will know exactly what needs to be done, when it needs to be done. There’s no strategic thinking involved, save for the need to actually defend the Turrets. “Do I Cleanse the group up front, or bring down Scale stacks?” “Do I buff the group with Quickness while they AOE, or do I heal my fellow Turret gunners?” The computer will decide what’s important, even if it’s not a priority to what the group truly needs.

Raising it even one would have significant performance impact because you need to think of it over an equation that causes that to multiply very quickly. Until and unless there are significant changes in the engine, which isn’t on the table, we will not be raising the cap on player skill AoE.

I’m actually serious. Lodestones are still required for a number of high level weapons. And with some type of Precursor crafting coming up, there will be a spike in the Lodestone prices initially, and a slow trickle upwards once we find out how the process will be put in place. On top of that, I’m assuming Legendary armor will require Lodestones too.

But… using Turrets properly is part of the challenge. Defending Turrets is part of the challenge. Getting Teq’s HP down to each quarter health is part of the challenge. Defending the batteries is part of the challenge. Burning Teq down after he’s weakened by the Megalaser is part of the challenge.

Each part of the fight requires different all players to work together. Each has his or her role to play. I’ve read your suggestion, and all I hear from it is “Turrets are too important, nerf them.” To which I gave you examples of how this event can fail even with good players on Turrets.

Ultimately, if you’re having a hard time, I would suggest guesting to BG or TC. Or even joining the Teq Killer guild. This fight isn’t impossible to do. There’s no need for any nerfs. People will win and people will fail. There’s no need to offer any type of easy mode, since that’s what Teq was before the update. All I would ask is that Anet fix the bug that gives people unlimited time to kill him.

To each his own. The Tequatl fight isn’t for everyone. If you can’t organize a team, you fail, thus leading to a “poor experience”.

You cannot guaranteed an enjoyable experience, because everyone has a different definition of what’s “enjoyable” or “fun”. So if you choose to not participate in the event, that means there’s just more space for other people to do it.

ps – Be glad you even get a reward for effort. Rewards should have only been given for success. I’ve never seen someone get their college degree just for “putting in effort”.

Sorry to bring this up, but Tequatl already does require more than just 6 people on Turrets. You can have the best 6-man team, and you can still fail.

So if I go along with your thought process, I could say that all the attackers up front should be NPCs. Anet put a lot of emphasis on the 50 people up front, that if they fail, the entire event fails.

See what I did there? It works both ways. That’s why this is a group event. BOTH parts need to work well, or you fail. Simple as that. You can’t just nerf one part of the event because the groups you’ve been in have failed in the “Turret area”. There are groups who have epic Turret gunners and defenders, but the attack group can’t get enough DPS to get Teq to 75% until the timer is way down.

Suggestion: Heroes Party

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

There are two types of players, there are the few people who can do a strategy and there is the mindless zerg. Maybe you should plan out these battles with this in mind, a small party or two can do all the intricate stuff which sets up the boss for taking mass damage from the mindless zerg, the ones that have rezzed themselves in time to run in and take advantage.

Expecting everyone to handle all the intricate ‘boring’ stuff like defending, cleansing people of conditions, not standing in the obvious fields of death is expecting a lot and while I DON’T want you to dumb it down, a pure mindless zerg shouldn’t win, maybe you shouldn’t ramp up the necessity of defending, pushing buttons and being in the right place at the right time. Also for the people doing ‘boring’ parts should get a stronger reward to tempt people to do them despite the monotony and lack of MDK (like, I don’t know, running Dolyaks in WvW).

No. What you’re asking is to take away parts of the challenge because it’s too challenging. And by offering higher rewards for different tasks only increases the amount of people who want to do the higher reward tasks, and makes it unfair to the rest who do the other parts. That can lead to more failures, since players will naturally gravitate to the things that give them the best loot.

And side note, mindless zergs already don’t win.

What you need is everyone following orders, and not wasting time by lying flat on their face through most of the battle. So far there have been three things that lost us the battle:

  • Not enough players
  • Players not respawning at the waypoint when they die
  • Bad people on the turrets

Really, those turrets are key.

I agree Turret gunners are vital. But in my example from last nite, we did have good people on Turrets. We just weren’t good enough up front. And then the point being it still takes skill, and not mindless spamming.

Tequatl is difficult in the organizational skills required to beat it.

Tequatl is not difficult in the individual skill required to beat it.

FYI – The sum of the individuals and their skill determine the outcome. On BG last nite, we had a full map, 6 Commanders, and 90+ people on TS. Laid out our strategy, and yet this group only got Teq down to 50%.

So yes, individual skill is as important as teamwork.

Most of the jobs at Tequatl are for skill spamming. Yes, there are turret men and a few turret protectors, but almost everyone’s job is to spam DPS at Teq while standing at a single spot. That does not require individual skill.

We never had more than 7 stacks of Scale defense on Teq, and never lost a Turret (Flawless), and yet only got to 50%. So are you suggesting that BG failed at skill spamming?

+1 to you.

Increase the timer to 30 min. But if you do this, the hardcores are going to feel that it is too easy while making the casuals. So lets not do this one.

Add a new mechanic. Once Teq’s life bar hits 75%, a bonus 5 minutes is granted. And again, once his life hits 50% and 25%, another 5 minutes can be added to the timer. This method would give a little bit of hope to the casuals whilst retaining the difficulty that the hardcores desire. If you are so elite and hardcore, you wont even need the extra times and will burn him down in 15 minutes anyways right? If you are a casual player, just work your butt off to get him down to the reward tiers and you will also get rewarded with a few more minutes to finish him off.

Is this really such a difficult solution to provide that would keep everyone happy?

You… just said increasing the timer to 30 minutes is a bad idea, then go on to suggest it.

I hear you. Nothing against the Living Story, but I miss the days when I was playing through the Personal Story for the first time. It was all customized to my character and stuff, or so it seemed at first. Then it was customized to Trahearne’s character, and we all know how that final boss fight went.

Apparently, this “Pact” is content to sit around and wait for their lieutenants to get more powerful. Speculation on their motivation is beyond the scope of this thread.

Just wait until the Pact goes after Bubbles. Anet doesn’t want us killing all the Elder Dragons so quickly.

Let me answer your questions:

1) Only one server, out of all servers, was able to beat Teq on the first day. Don’t see how you think this makes the content easy since it was beaten.
2) BlackGate is full of really really REALLY good players. Really.
3) Having a map full of people does not guarantee a win. See point #1.
4) If you want to generalize the content in those terms, I could say that beating Tequatl requires you to turn on your computer, log in, play, and win. There’s more to winning than your four steps, and I know you understand it.

Ok, so let’s say I have an active guild of 500 people, I post a message of the day about Tequatl, 100 of them show up, I read a guide 1 time, make sure that all members join on TS, we fail first two times, because people fail on the turrets and we still have not weeded out all randoms, we beat it third time. Was it difficult? No. Now you may say, that running an active guild IS difficult and I will not disagree on that, but it has nothing to do with the fight itself. You either have resources at your disposal or you do not, there isn’t really that much space for skill as the only requirement is to DPS as fast as possible.

And if it wasn’t difficult, you wouldn’t have failed in the first place.

Did you know that there are rumors of players being able to go through SAB Tribulation Mode without dying once?
