I don’t see how it COULD limit expansion-less people’s gaming experience. We don’t have enough information, we know it’ll be put into a rotation – but how will this rotation work? Will all three of the borderlands become the new map on certain weeks, or will 1-2 borderlands alternate between the new and old map? Maybe only one borderland will permanently become the new map whilst the other two remain the same, and which base you start with on said borderland will “rotate” with your color of the week.

Even IF on given weeks ALL of the borderland maps become the new map, what’s stopping non-expac players from simply going into EBG?

You can ask for clarification but it’s not going to be given until Anet chooses to release information on it. (Probably via the articles like with the new Mastery system.)

You just explained how it COULD limit gameplay yourself. And yes, the only way to get information is from Anet directly, that’s the whole point of these threads.

And yes, even if they take away the ability to go into the borderlands they could go into EB, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’d be taking away the ability to go into the borderlands.

If they make it 3 maps and leave EBG as is, it wont restrict WvW in it’s entirety, it will gate content ,however, I don’t see them making 3 maps expac only and 1 map base. Rather I think EBG will be replaced with the new map every week.
It means that you get to be in TS listening to everyone else have fun in the new map while you sit there

I VERY strongly disagree with GW2 needing to be realistic. Legendaries are meant to feel legendary. Please don’t make some boring realistic item a legendary just to appease the idea that things need to “make sense” in a game with heavy fantasy. If I wanted realism, I’d walk outside. In fact, make them over the top all you want, I eat that up real quick. I love shiny. I love over the top. I love big kitten weapons that look powerful and far from reality.

What I do agree with, is to stop the “le funny funnies” aspects to where legendaries are an actual joke. Disco Ball? Confetti gun? Pony bow? I mean okay I get it, you guys thought it was cute. But it’s a legendary item. It doesn’t have to be all jokes man. It could be an epic item. Still, it’s all subjective, maybe the my little pony bow is “epic” to some people.

But…I want my poptart cat GreatSword

What happens to say people that play GW2 and are in the military. Say they have to deploy of 18 months or longer? Is it fair they come back and find their names gone? I don’t think so. What happens if someone doesn’t have the means to play for an extended period of time due to illness or other circumstances? Is it fair for them to lose their names? I think not.

It is fair. They chose to join the military, and they know as a consequence they may be gone for 18 months.

How about you go fight for your own freedom then..thats fair right?

I honestly don’t see a reason people shoul lose the names of a lvl 80 character.
No matter the time spent away.

I say, if you have a character below lvl 10 that has been inactive for 3 plus months.
Sure, lose the name.
If you have been inactive but you have 4 lvl 80’s. No.
No reason for you to be forced to rename a character you spent time/gold leveling.
Like others have said.
Get creative.

As always, your suggestions and posts truly delight me.

It was fun popping your poorly built Ele last night, with my Rifle & Slick Shoes Engineer. I don’t suppose that’s a coincidence that you propose to nerf every Rifle skill right after. Lmao.

Rifle and Slick Shoes are avoidable. Pro tip, it helps to bring things like stability and stun breaks when you fight a Rifle Engi. And no, using Arcane Shield randomly does not constitute as stunbreaking a key ability.

Also, just because you like to use Aura Share and try to 1v1, instead of using the condition removal GM trait, that doesn’t mean actual Eles can do that. It would severely displace Eles from the highly competitive level it is at now.

lol, so I played your spamgineer build last night, I take it all back, it doesn’t need any skill, it’s the engineers equivalent to the zerker warrior, Bulls Charge, Frenzy, Hundred Blades. Although landing Net Shot was a chore, is it suppose to be a slower projectile or I think I was lagging.
Still though, I face rolled mediguards, any necromancer that left Deathshroud, zerker rangers and Mesmers that think they can hide with Decoy.

I would say it’s easiness is like Hambow but I literally just hoped onto my Engineer and started wrecking face.
Once again, engineer is the most skill-less class in the game.

Although there were plenty of other builds that just wrecked this setup, I just easily kite forever, Gear Shield iz proz


Protip: Don’t think you’re good when what you are playing is easier to master than the hambow.

You should be thanking me, trying to turn the engineer to be just as powerful with more risk/reward instead of just toning down everything like ArenaNet will most likely too.

Well, except Gear Shield broken recharge, Transmutes powerful passive that is easily traited into and Incinerate Powder. You have a Flamethrower, learn how to get a fire aura if you want burn spam.
(A side note, that Demise fellow challenged me to a 1v1, although I couldn’t kill him because 3 Cantips but he couldn’t kill me either, missed every Fire Grab and Earthquake, he needed 3 Cantips to make up for missing everything. I also landed a churning earth, almost won there until he blew all utilities. Spamming those dodge rolls I knew he had no choice but to eat it. He mains an ele, better on condi warrior. LOL)

Inferior? Yeah, technically if I want to survive more. If I want my team to survive more, well then, I can easily sacrifice my defense to help.


I’ve read Phantarams post and… talking about increasing the usefulness of some abilities on scepter, focus and staff.
I agree with everything he says? Except I’d personally reduce the CC duration of the staff BUT reduce the recharge. Too much risk to and not enough reward.
Other than that I couldn’t find anything regarding nerfing elementalists.

There is nothing wrong with surviving, spec’ing fully into defenses (minus the time when bunker guards could withstand a 5v1) the problem is surviving AND dealing damage.
Right now just 1 tick of Drakes Breath can deal 2,100 raw burning damage with celestial and 20+ stacks of might. That is just 1 tick! That is not including when it can hit 2-3 times easily or the power that comes from it.

Burning Speed blast radius is way too big and Ring of Fire can easily tick 3000+ damage of burning on multiple people in the chaos of a team fight.

Reducing the amount of burning just a little would go a massive way. You’ll see a big difference when Drakes Breath dealing 33% less damage and Burning Speed can be avoided without the need to dodge.

In my opinion, the best way to deal with Celestial Elementalists and Engineers is to force them to go more offensive if they want to kill anything.

Want to know the best nerf for Engineers? Kits have cooldown swaps. GG.


Ultimately, the best route for balance to flat out changing a lot of skill functionality or complete redesign for engineer and elementalist.
2 years and half the classes clearly need rework.

So I head to mists to test out a 6-0-5-3-0 build. I’m thinking drop condi’s, pop DS, for some dumbfire spam… maybe make some use of the new sinister stats.

I drop a Mark of Blood.. 2 stacks of bleeding/ 195 per tic and I just watch it tic..

195… 195… 195…. and I wanna cry….

Does Anet have any clue how painful it is to play this class? Freaking guardians are running around ticking 900+ burning. They don’t have to worry about stacks. They don’t have to worry about cleansing. They reapply that burn every three hits of their sword….

Mages can’t even be crit, stack bleeds faster, and have insane burn duration from their signet…. don’t even talk to me about mesmers. They are a superior condition class in every way.

2 bleeds… 4 and 3/4 second cooldown…

I just don’t understand how this class got this bad.

Indeed, long activiation skills should be more homing, not to mention that, in my opinion, we should be granted the option to provide instructions to how the pet uses its skills – e.g., use skill X when Y happens. Or at least give us some more control over the other skills of the pet. I get angry everytime my Wolf does not use its knockdown for two-three fights in a row and then I target a random PVE moob and it tackles it.

Pet priority assignment
I cant remember what game had this system (may have been a console game), but basically, you assigned a moves priority and if that move was on cooldown, the AI used the next one in the priority list until and went down the line.

For example

between A B C D

if A is on cooldown the chain continues through
B C D

if A came off cooldown in between B and C, then C is skipped and A starts, then goes back through the chain.
Just an idea ( I am aware of the imperfections but it is a rough idea)

What could have been done differently? Again, as I say, the problem is not with Gosu skills buddy, the problem is that the pet mechanic is intrisically faulty. It is not a matter of L2P it is a matter of faulty game design – and we are not in an SAO universe where we can just will it to correct it.

AI is faulty, I agreed with this already, but it is faulty for everyone.
No what I am asking is what could be done differently to increase the efficiency of a class who has to have a pet out at all times.

In my experience, mostly inWvW and roaming, this pet is more a buff than a hindrance.

You want me to run a video for what? My argument is against yours. Your video contributes to my argument – hence I do not need to make a video to contribute to mine as well – End result is in some cases having a pet is loss to the ranger as in many of those cases you could be doing 25%-30% more damage if you didn’t have a pet – like the other players in your party did the 25%-30% more damage because their class mechanic isn’t designed in a faulty way.

I want you to provide evidence.
My arguement is that I did everything I could to contribute using the tools I was given.
Even when my teammates went down before me my dps did not stop, because I had a pet there.
Show me why that doesnt matter.
Show me in comparison what you think should happen and what could be done to be more efficient.

But you touch an important subject. What could be done to improve it? After all this is the point of this Profession Balance forum

Improved AI pathing
Reworking the behavior of pet skills
Update to traits that are useless
Fix the freaking pigs
Speed up birds attack chain-which loops back to

That isn’t what the OP started as.

In my opinion, the ranger should have an option besides having an active pet, I for one am in favor of the passive pet option giving a boost to the ranger – this sadly involves substantial game redesign of the class to implement. But some of those suggestions that have roamed the forums such as “spirit of the pet” posts should definetly be looked into.

We know that any substantial updates and reworkings to the system most likely wont happen.
Realistically, we need to accept the fact the pet is here to stay.
Period.

Now I haven’t gathered a clear and precise idea on this, still thinking how many things from the ranger could be improved or fixed, but the infighting in those that main ranger in favor of the pet and in denial of the intrinsic class mechanic flaws contribute to the forums never forming a good idea to fix this that can be clearly shown to ANET in favor of improving the class – not making it OP (no one with a serious thought would want that), but making it not intrinsically faulty.

The ranger has one of the trickiest professions to balance because of the pet.
but we cant remove the pet.

Some thing that would help that was mentioned in this thread.
Recall- put it on a 3s CD
When a ranger recalls it’s pet the pet does an evasive leap back towards the ranger

reverting the nerfs to shortbow now that LB has been buffed I think is neccessary, because compared to what Axe has going for it now, the shortbow isn’t as useful ( speaking from a 1v1 perspective)

Ranger pets with long activation skills need to have that attack heatseak the target.
Engineers got this buff on the rocket turrent, this should be how all long, drawn out AI attacks work.

FIX AI PATHING

honestly, its been 2yrs, Anet wants rangers to have a pet, or they would have changed it a long time ago.
The AI needs an upgrade, the behavior of AI attacks needs an upgrade.
I think fixing the AI and pet attack behavior should be priority.

you seriously took those videos for Ranger game play Solori is clearly trolling you.
I’ll record a video for you , it will be Crude 480p maybe 720p if it don’t become too blurred , i use a lot of Camra postioning.

Please do, it can be PVE World Boss Events, Fractal Runs (20+ to keep it interesting), WvW zerg fights. I welcome anyone to show case their ranger skills and how the ranger does not lose efficiency in several of those situations by having a poorly construed class mechanic.

Due to people like Solori I have to speak in plain simple English to make sure people of all ages and capabilities can understand my argument:

“The Ranger is the only class that takes a loss because of its class mechanic due to the fact that, as it is designed, the ranger loses around 25%-30% of its effeciency in several situations (World Bosses, Zerg fights, Fractals) whilst, for other classes, the class mechanic either is a plus or a neutral effect.”

Also keep in mind that keeping your pet alive is different than compensating that loss of efficiency – something Solori didn’t seem to grasp – your pet must actually compensate for the 25%-30% efficiency or even contribute to improve your class. But I will settle for now for a net effect of 0.

Preferably post your video with log battle for your damage and your pet damage. I gave Solori some handicap by going easy on him on the analysis when he used the ranged pets, but that is only because it was just fun jabs with him. For next videos I hope its something to contribute more to my argument.

There have been a numerous suggestions on how to improve pets when it comes to survival, making it possible to get them the hell out of heavy aoe for example without resorting to swapping, and doing that spontaneously and reactively without studying a boss so that you know beforehand when to pull the pet back.
The one thing that would probably be easiest for Anet to implement is to add some form of evasion mechanic to F3, with an icd. For example 3 seconds of evasion when called back, 15 seconds cooldown. I think something like that could work (numbers would need to be tweaked after testing).
Thing is, when your pet’s focused from that hard hitting boss, crippled and slowed, there’s no saving it unless the pet swap is up, or you run signet of stone and give it another six seconds. Guard could in combination with passive mode and recall is another option, but that skill is so kitten slow to use, many times it’s too late. I believe an evasion mechanic of some sort would go a long way to help out in those situations.

I think they could actually add that to the F3.
It could be a leap towards the ranger that evades , this can be thematic for all pets and would look boss on a spider.

This would make recall faster, and more responsive.
That would also solve a lot of issues with ranged pets having to walk through mobs to get to you.

Like what happened to my spider in the harpy fractal.

I don’t think PBS was a nerf, and I already made my stance on the Original OP,

I don’t think pets are perfect, in fact, i think ALL AI in this game needs help with pathing and attack connection, but that is a mechanic issue that needs to be addressed for everyone.

I DO NOT think ranger pets are so terrible that they are un-manageable and make the class sub-par.

I do think some pets are better than others and that needs to be addressed ( pig class)

I don’t think playing with your ranger pet in a smart way makes you less efficient, and what the OP described in the original OP, and something Azel keeps re-iterating is that the ranger class mechanic is so bad, it makes the class unplayable

Any poorly played class is inefficient.
If you know that your pet needs to stay alive, micromanage to keep it alive and help your team.
I used a bear as a body block for the rest of my group to DPS a boss.
NOT ONCE DURING THAT ENCOUNTER DID MY PET DIE WHILE TAKING THE MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE.

But that makes my class mechanic inefficient, when i use it as a utility and not for pure dps I guess.

Picking my targets for my pet is apparently not efficient,
Pulling my pet out of AoE’s and using utilities to keep it in a fight to aid in overall group DPS is apparently too hard.

I agree whole heartedly that the ranger needs help in some area’s ( like empathic bond shouldn’t be an upgraded signet and should just remove conditions from you and the pet)

But the class is not so bad that it’s too hard to effectively use and properly place the additive to your class.

I was actually unable to prove you wrong.
Me playing the ranger actually made the fractal group wipe multiple times on bosses, almost to the point where we were unable to do certain bosses because they had to carry me.
The pet also died at every encounter, like I couldn;t save it from red circles at all.

I fully agree. The ranger needs a lot of buffs to everything, they are currently the elementalist pre-buff

Please post a link of the video teaching me and all other rangers your gosu moves on how to keep pet alive in PVE world boss events, dungeon/fractal bosses and WVW Zerg fights, in which your pet is actually contributing and not just there to neuter your damage potential.

I can take that challenge.
I’ll run a fractals tomorrow evening on my ranger.

Hopefully before then you can actually learn how to play the game?

Or maybe Anet will design a class for you that’s invul to everything that you can roll your face on the keyboard and contribute to a high end group.

Go for it buddy, run a fractal with some different final bosses, then go on a PVE world event boss and then a big Zerg fight. Show me your pet alive and actually contributing to your damage during those fights and I will come back here, applaud you and say that I will study your videos to try and learn to play and stop simply, qqing.

I have a ranger, thus why i replied.
Have you actually played any spvp or wvw? Do you roam?
Have you actively played your ranger or did you just jump on it when it got buffed?

Yes I do WvW, I roam, and I do spvp and some tpvp. Pet micromanagement isn’t hard, you have to be aware of what is happening to your pet and probably try not to run with a cat until you know the system.
Pet management=l2p issue.

Bear bow is noob friendly, start there.

  • No flanking needed on thief and eng pistol aa , I guess rate of fire is much much slower than short bow.

Do you use a shortbow?
Have you actually played a condi ranger at all?

  • forage pops up randomly on the ground I bet you have lots of time during the fight to find it and pick it up and use it, I wonder if steal did drop bundle on the ground in random spot how would that work. I don’t wont range to be like a thief it just shows that similar skills on thief work properly but not on ranger.

First , they are two different class mechanics. I am very sure a thief would love to have a pet follow them around and deal non stop damage (with the added CC) permanently , the bundle dropped by boars is random,
half the time they aren’t useful in actual combat,
and if you want a pet that does decent CC,
Canine or Spider
Besides the fact I hate pigs with a passion, the attacks they do are pretty much useless in actual combat, while the dogs at least put cripple on there target which will allow the crappy AI pathing to actually hit something once in a while.

  • LR is on way to long cd and it should not be affected by chill because it is escape skill.
    Look at the eng rocket boots, ok it does not brake stunt but it does have lots of functions on low cd. Or thief withdraw look how neatly the packed all good stuff in to healing skill on short cd.

It’s simple really, you don’t need defense, because you get two dodges.

Dangerous mobs will take you out in one or two hits. You don’t need defense if you can kill them quick enough, since you can just dodge their attacks.

and furthermore, you don’t need defense, because you ONLY get two dodges.

After you’ve dodged twice, you’re all out. If you went zerker then odds are the mob will soon be dead, if it isn’t already. If you went tank, you’re doomed.

No matter what class you play 2 or 3 big hits and you’re done. So if you can live through one hit as a zerker, and two hits as a tank, and going tank means doubling the time it takes to kill something, you’ve made a huge mistake.

Even worse are the people that go cleric, since they never live long enough to heal… so what is the point of having good healing?

The new Living Story area just reinforces all of this.

My high dps characters kill mobs one or two at a time, and have to be very careful. My tank classes don’t stand a chance. The thorn wolves are a perfect example of kill them fast, or you’re dead.

So if you are new to GW2, just buy zerker and get used to dodging, because now more than ever the only defense is high offense.

It’s like 1 am so I am going to skip the first part of your post because it holds very little meat imo.

That is the fault of the player micro managing the pet. If your pet is dead most of the time you need to learn how to play the ranger better

Moa "change" suggestion

I like how there’s constant complaints about Moa being supposedly too strong, when the elite is nearly untaken in actual play. Yes yes, we are aware, it’s awesome in hotjoin because inexperienced players don’t know what to do when they’re Moa’d.

Try it once they did a dozen of matches and you might as well leave the slot empty, Moa has very few use cases. Not worth a 180s CD, in any case.

Make it a visible projectile that can be reflected. Give it another color and size and the caster can be in stealth.

Then it will became a high risk/reward skill.

Eh, that adds high risk, but what is the high reward? The thing essentially performs a very bad daze-like effect (since for most players raw damage goes way up in Moa form) for 10s on someone.

Not useless, but seeing how you actually make them deal more damage while they’re transformed, what is the use behind it if … hrm… you could ofc self-moa to get that extra power damage.

Realistically though, the skill needs something like a 5-6s duration but a 240-360 AE radius to be useful. Right now you can use it in a select few cases to dominate a 1v1 fight (unsupported game format) or turn a 2v2 into a 2v1 because the Moa’d player cannot easily join the fight due to stage layout.

But those are rare as hell, and in all other cases TW or MI perform worlds better and – more importantly – are useful in multiple scenarios, not just one.

The skill is very usefull in a way that you can Moa the suport class, turn the fight to 2v1 – 3v2 (without the suport class) and in a team fight you can easely focus the Morphed player and kill him easy. (very high reward).

If Moa had reduced CD i believe that many more mesmers would take it.
But with shorter CD it would need a shorter duration and more counter play.

What you just stated can be found in any team fight where people focus one person out of the group.

If a necro pops lich form and you focus the support the support dies. And they will probably die faster because lol 5k auto lich form.

If a thief uses venom share in a 3 v 3 then it turns into a 3 v 2 where one person is basically going to be stuck until death.

Focusing someone in the game doesnt magically become easier with a moa, especially when TW in a 3 v 3 would be worlds more useful, thus why it and MI are the main skills for any meta build on mesmer.

On topic.

I would be all for changes to moa if it was 240 AE and unblockable, the 5 skill on moa was reduced from 1200 to 600, and the moa was immune to damage blocking effects through traits ( no more endure pain moa -_-)

Then I would propose.
Casting would reveal the mesmer-
Duration decreased from 10s to 5s
Cooldown reduced to 90s

that would make moa a useful elite and not the garbage you take in a hotjoin to pew pew noobs

I know i am actually bumping the thread but the problem is, he is not a troll, he is on a crusade against mesmers. No facts, no experience, nothing will persuade him that he is actually talking nonsense.

YB has a solid PPT-focused core which knows it can rely on calling our open field guilds for help defending/assaulting a structure if the need arises.

That’s how it use to be on SoS, with a good balance between both play styles. Now there’s only a couple commanders/guilds willing to bring a force for defence

Not “I win button”, but the win-rate is probably the same.

All the examples you gave let you still make use of your skills, utilities and have some counters.

lich: remove stability and chain cc, reflect his projectiles, use line of sight,….
most burst skills are ok and balanced. rampage: when was the last time you have seen a warrior using it?
ranger: 1 condi clear, teleport or destroy the vines and you are free. you can reflect rapid fire, staff eles do it all the time
supply crate: this one is close to moa but at least you still have your skills to use,
heartseeker: it is not op,

moa: you cant use your weapon skills, cant use utilities, cant use your class mechanics. without that you nullify the enemy entire build and traits that synergize with the active usage of skills.

moa: It can be blocked/blinded/evaded. Not enough? Ok. At moa form you can evade, use leap and “charge” with evade effect.

btw, look at topics xDudisx creates: “nerf zerk mesmer”, “nerf zerk necro” and …“add critical effect to healing”. Can you guess hiss class? Right, guardian.

Can people stop making assumptions and saying stuff they don’t know? I have 1 of each class. And have already played with almost all the meta/cheese builds around, MM necro, Turret engi, celestial hambow, celestial elementalist, sw+dg thief, celestial engineer, etc. In pve my main in zerker staff ele. In wvw I rotate between guardian/war/ele zerg or any other in roaming build. Are you happy now? Or do you think everyone is obligated to have the same point of view as you?

It becomes pretty apparent to most people that you have little to no experience actually playing against a certain class…or with other classes that actually counter said class..
In your case.

If you were good at medi guard.- you would counter mesmer.
If you were good at s/d thief- you would counter a mesmer.

MM is a pub stomper, so hotjoin hero’s will cry about it.

Moa at present is too strong, the streets are 3:

1) Change the entire elite
2) Strengthen skills to transformed
3) Reduce its length up to 4-6 seconds

So why top mesmers (I think they are “Good players”) use MI instead of Moa?

It’s hard to justify any sort of change to steal or its associated traits without giving us alternatives to those results. I feel pretty wasteful having a 35 second cooldown and not putting up several traits to pump it up. The former is quite depressing in most situations.

Honestly this article is redundant at this point. There is no way anything with respect to this game will change outside of an expansion. Otherwise they will be tinkering numbers when core issues stop the game being fun to a significant number of people (pvp wise).

The more you play the PvP the more you get disapointted with lameness. Everything is uncounterable. Thiefs spamming ports/evades. Mesmers spamming ports/damage from 1500 with massive insta burst. They are probably the two most frustrating to play against but on the whole every class is on some level frustrating to fight against. I guess massive sigil power also just adds to frustrations. Because you just die out of nowhere. That isnt fun to fight against. Thief having no cooldowns? Not fun. So many issues. And will never be resolved. So at this point making articles like this is pointless. It is better to either quit the game or just give up on any seriousness in the game and just enjoy it when you can enjoy it.

Either way, we all probably got our monies worth from this game. So thanks to anet for that. But in terms of a pvp game with lasting appeal. There is none due to how most of the classes are not fun to fight against. This is a design failure but it is minor compared to a good value for money game they produced.

You seem to be one of those people that just hate the game in general…

There is the other side too namely setups that counter the very strong “general” builds such as DD ele and engi.
Among them is most condi ranger builds due to massive poison uptime which helps shut down the healing. However condi ranger is against countered by burst thief which is countered by DD ele which is countered by condi ranger again.
So while it may not look like it, there is a “circle of power” that may not be as obvious unless you know how every build on every profession works.

I am not saying rangers hardcounter eles, but give the ranger and ele equal skill and a ST AD rabid/celestial ranger will outperform the ele due to evasion, CC and poison. The other conditions is on low cooldowns allowing for several condition bursts if played correctly. The low HP pool of eles cannot take this treatment, and usually you can burn through all the cleanses a ele got within 12-15 seconds if playing your cards right.

Right, but the build you just mentioned ( I presume you mean something like this? ) is, as you yourselkittennowledged, a soft counter to generalists like Cele D/D 00266 Ele. The matchups that I am referring to are the insuperable ones; as in; matchups that require too many circumstantial advantages for the “losing side” and a large skill advantage over the “winning side” to be concievably winnable.

I feel that more builds and circumstances like your Condi Bleed ranger against Cele Ele should be in game as opposed to some extremely lopsided matchups in game right now, like DPS Guard vs Zerker Thief; or Shatter Mesmer vs Staff Ele or the classic “hardest of counters” Condi Necro vs most meta Engineer builds. That so many of these matchups put almost all the burden of skill on the defender is a worrying trend. It’s circumstances like these that will inevitably put the meta back into 2012-2013 – where at least 1-2 classes languished every single meta. (Warrior post Quickness Nerf; into Ranger post Spirits nerf, into Elementalist post Water Magic nerf(s)).

The meta’s the healthiest it’s ever been; with all 8 classes boasting at least 1 build that makes them meta worthy. That’s something that Arenanet could not possibly even hope to claim last year; and I applaud them for their achievement. But again, the contemptuous ease by which this fragile detente can be shattered is very real. Thief and Warrior, so long being top dog; are fading. Bunker Guardian, so long a staple of Conquest, may well be sidelined altogether in the face of Lord Rush that from what has been seen so far, emphasises mobility. It’s being sidelined even now in fact, due to Cele Ele.

I think that the QoL changes this patch are great, safe, and nicely conservative. But again, that hasn’t stopped Anet from dropping meta-shattering changes that went relatively undocumented until extremely late in the Patch Preview process. (See: Deceptive Evasion last year until shouted down, or the Eleventh hour reprieve against Perplexity Runes being introduced to PvP in April).

To corrupt a certain statesman’s phrase, the price of balance is eternal vigilance; and we as a community have at times not been vigilant. (See: Warrior becoming OP not immediately after Dhuumfire, but being demonstrated to be OP in September, at PAX; by which it then was another 11 more months of Warrior domination until just recently. That Runes and Sigils are now so powerful, so build defining; so multiplicative, only adds to the balance minefield that Anet has to navigate.

Clearly the way forward is to reduce the power creep of Runes and Sigils. The QoL changes don’t really change the meta significantly; but that’s because the outlier combos haven’t been touched.

So mesmer has a counter that almost no one runs because a mesmer is more mobile and has more op spike RANGED dmg. By the same logic turret engi is nice and balance for the game because there are counters.

I know that your not doing it right. That much is apparent.

You have a trait that gives might in an AoE to the party every crit on a 1 second cooldown.

A trait that gives your virtue of justice 3 stacks of might on use

Greatsword gives might at the end of its chain for 7 seconds.

Rune of strength gives might every time your hit and that happens often in combat.

Sigil of battle gives 3 stacks of might for 20 seconds on weapon swap

..please tell me again why you dont have at least 15 stacks of might?

Also LOL one-shot

When you can block, blind, and burn down clones.
If you get 1 shot by a mesmer as a guardian your a bad guardian.

But I guess that’s apparent for you since you think you can sustain at max 3 stacks of might.

MY guards dont run the might on crit trait
MY guards dont run sigil of battle
MY guards doesn’t run strength either now

I fixed that for you.

If you run the meta build and think that is the only effective guardian build you haven’t explored guardian enough.
It does have more than one effective medi build. Has for a loooooog time.

Also.

Mesmer doesn’t have spammable ports.

They have one on staff 8s CD, and one on a 30sec CD.

A guardian has a port on sword 10s, a leap on GS 15s, and JI on a 36s CD.

Guardian auto for GS cleaves.
Cleaving kills clones.
Killing clones on a shatter mesmer kills shatter burst.

Guardian has 3 blocks and 4 blinds.

A shatter mesmer shouldn’t be a problem for a guardian.

I will concede the point. Not all Guardians run strength runes. Not even my guardian runs with those runes all the time unless I feel like being lazy.

Anyway, I’ll throw a bone:

“Efficiency” and Don’t be a burden on purpose within a group/team – these are the reason “meta” builds exist… You can feel pigeonholed, and try to fight it all you want, but there is just a simple thing within this or any other competitive game with builds that have a more efficient way of combatting… From Trading Card Games to Real Time Strategy games… So whatever Anet does to balance things – there will always be just a small window of things to pick since there is the “Rule of Efficiency”
