On a simple matter of mechanics, Memser’s have been as off putting to play against or more so than Thieves. Both thieves and Mesmer’s should not have the burst capacity they have. Not with the gimmicky mechanics the professions possess. It should be a trade off of one of the other, not both. In a PvP setting, I’d much rather have a straight up fighting.
Here’s my motto in PvP….
Anything else is cowardly.

On a side note to the OP
You..AS A RANGER
Can stealth..
Here let me repeat this in caps for you because you are too new to understand the basic principle of finding a mesmer, or are too good to be bothered to actually Learn how to play as one.
- YOU ,AS A RANGER, CAN STEALTH
Here let me make it a bit more obvious for you
YOU, AS A RANGER, CAN STEALTH
Please let me know if you need this translated because English isn’t your first language.

I totally understand both ends of the argument, one end being the whole paywall feeling, and the other end that the product is actually worth the paywall
here are my two cent’s I hope to god it isnt just a big living world update, but at the same time you have to understand that this game isnt subscription based, besides the expansion, before and after you will be paying NOTHING, big deal if you have to buy the expansion, mmo’s have been doing that for years, WoW makes their subscribers pay for their expansions, why wouldnt Anet? in the end were lucky we arent paying a subscription, just be happy we are even getting anything at all
ungrateful kids
^This.
If you’re complaining about buying the expansion. Remember
You could have been spending 15$ monthly.
Be grateful we are even getting new content to play.
No it wasn’t? I made a warrior for my beta character and it performed no differently than my warrior in the vanilla game (except for having celestial gear without runes of strength, so didn’t quite wrack up as much might as my warrior does).
Yes it was. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Feedback-on-HoT-Stress-Test-merged/page/3#post4915383
That implies more of a difficulty in encounters, not the enemies themselves. A smaller platform or the wyvern having some adds isn’t a difficulty curve, it’s a completely revisited encounter altogether. I’m sure what we saw is going to be pretty standard, except with more adds and different platforms of engagement rather than a real sense of “difficulty” from the enemies themselves.
I disagree, I think we will see enemies that either hit harder, or have more health and are harder to take down.
This is because of the mordrem specialization tree that is supposed to make fighting mordrem easier as you level.
If putting points into that makes the enemies we fought in that beta any easier we may as well play in a lvl 1 zone.
idc if i have to backstab a revenant twice or 4 times like a necro, i will do it. so bring it on anet!!!
With what we had to play with in the demo, a good celestial something that forces two kinds of pressure OR something with burst and CC would do the trick. You can pretty much perma cripple or immobilize them when they are in jalis, and if they switch to mal, you start chain CC’ing them.
But we are getting more legends and trait lines ( and a specialization for everyone else) So we don’t really know what’s going to happen.
Greatsword necros may end up being the new celestial king and start actually being meta.
Rifle thieves may become 1-shot kill shot 2.0
We honestly won’t know where the Revenant stands until we see what everyone else is getting..
I am wondering how anybody knows how OP Rev is going to be based on:
- We don’t know what all of the Rev skills/traits are yet; nor were we able to use them to test out potential builds.
- We weren’t able to customize our gear stats (all celest shows nothing as I think had 1,370 ish power)
- We don’t know any of the class specializations (Rev included) or any the traits that are getting re-worked.
- Same thing for runes, sigils, foods, and any new stat combos they may add for armor/weapons/accessories.
- We couldn’t do any PvP/WvW.
- Finally, based on all the above: we haven’t been able to make coordinated groups to see how well the class plays out in that dynamic. Whether that be PvE, sPvP, or WvW.
I am just hoping the people creating these “This is OP” threads aren’t the ones getting into all the betas. You need to be able to apply critical thinking to see the whole picture, and then make your argument. Guess what? The picture hasn’t been fully painted yet!
The reason why we said it’s OP is because with just a 25% completion class with wrong stats and gear, we’re already able to feel the strength of the class already. When it becomes a full class with all the tools and right traits/ gears, how much stronger could it be?
People who criticize about Revenant’s low dps may find out a significant difference when they trait to full zerker, and people who can already stack condition like crazy will find it more deadly when combine with correct gears.
The content was on Easy mode for the demo, so it’s not that we were strong, its that everything else was made weaker for us to feel strong.
Again, you list a lot of things that on paper look nice, but you purposly ignore the rest of the weaknesses
I am just hoping the people creating these “This is OP” threads aren’t the ones getting into all the betas. You need to be able to apply critical thinking to see the whole picture, and then make your argument. Guess what? The picture hasn’t been fully painted yet!

Logged in and got this in the mail.
This is a scammer right? Because I reported him as a scammer.(I cut out the link because despite having support.guildwars2.com it has something shady afterwards. some numbers)
….that bottom message though.
Stealth has already been overnerfed and passed out like candy to too many classes. If ANET wanted to destroy what makes thieves special, they chose an excellent path.
I mean look what they did to ranger’s
They gave them stealth on top of the OP pets that follow the real mesmer.
And they gave them OP LB that literally destroys any chance mesmers get
/s
If you want harder encounters you need to marry multiple games into one boss.
Take Some mechanics from Dark Souls, Legend of Zelda, marry them with some fighting tactics from Mortal Kombat ( basically gonna require an AI that can RNG combo’s so it’s never the same at the same exact time), Add size and tells from GW2 bosses, Instance it for 10-15 people like WoW.
Then make the rewards Large and Lush, because this boss will be one of the hardest in an MMO and if it’s gonna take 40 minutes for a boss We need 40 minutes worth of rewards. ( like this trick better give a guaranteed special weapon and 50g)
Confirmed, Revs are all Kormir. Rytlock and Kormir had a thing for each other in the Mists.
There will be a Kormir stance for the Revenant.
Legendary Kormir Stance: invoke the power of the Legendary Goddess Kormir.
When invoked, you are blinded. Any time one of your allies finishes a event, you get credit for completing it instead. Whenever a condition hits you, you steal all boons, mats, and gold from all party members. If party members ask you for help, you will remind them that you are blind and can’t help them any more.
I want this
mr lexus
stacking is almost gone after fgs nerf
and skipping can be a part of the challenge if you treat it as a jumping puzzle with mobs, there’s no reason to kill hundreds of trash mobs and some areas are even created to be skipped – long corridors with stunning or knocking down mobs? this is supposed to be skipped
I can’t help but feel that most people refer to AC when they talk like that. Where the skips are cakewalks, get in arah and I feel exactly as you do on the skips. It’s an interesting challenge to know when to use different skills to avoid gtting in combat or even dying.
Which arah path are you referring to?
Because they still have a couple of quick paths that you can skip through.
Same in HoW,SE, and CoE
You have mobs and area’s people skip just for speed, and because the mobs dont matter.
I am at a total loss as to why the “dungeoneers” representing in here find it necessary to insult other aspects of the game and in so doing the players that enjoy those aspects. Are you attempting to build your case?
I remember a little while ago people said that PVP’ers had the most Toxic community in MMO’s
I think those people may want to revisit that statement and add some things to it.
What you fail to understand is that the game is in a really early stage. They can change the wall to be a big ol bomb in front of you. Be patient and see what it will be on release. Devs will most likely test rangers vs revenants and do something about it.
well, in all fairness, it still does not make sense to start with abilities that are clearly past breaking point at first sight. If R. is really as powerful as several beta testers claim, then it should have been realized by Anet themselves. When you want to build a hut, you don´t start out with a palace because you can chip away structure later anyway.
That’s the issue.
They went to build a hut and made a straw tent.
Then the people living under rocks saw the tent as a palace.
While everyone else that came from a palace saw it as a tent.
The revenant has a lot of great skills ON PAPER.
On paper the revenant looks like all that and a bag of chips.
Then you play it and its actually a bag of Doritos (cool ranch not cheese)
3-6 months. Some minor changes to the class with happen but there will be a massive wall of QQ, then people that actually know how to pvp with teach some of the QQ’ers OR the QQ’ers will make a rev, get stomped and stop coming to the forums.
it’s going to be like rangers when LB got buffed.
(edited by Solori.6025)
New class! Panic and all board the panic train! Choo choo!
why does this sound like a panic at the disco song title?
What they need is a revamp to the AI of enemies.
I wonder what the game would be like if AI behavior was different every day.
Like at one point We get lupi using a staff and using different staff skills, Then the next day we get a lupi that uses sword and mesmer skills.
Something to keep encounters fresh.
To have AI use tactics and combo off of each other vs the run and gun AI we have now.
They can add 3 new dungeons every year, but every year we will have the same group of hardcore people mastering every new dungeon and invalidating the work with easy runs.
Lets change the way enemies work first before we just introduce more crappy stack and burst dungeons.
That will be mastered and farmed for the first month.
50% uptime moving reflect is pretty insanely terrible for rangers though.
If you rely on LB, yeah, you’ll be screwed.
If you can handle yourself with GS or if you are a trapper then it’ll barely make a difference.Longbow, Shortbow, Axe yeah.
I’m not sure we should be comfortable with a weapon skill that invalidates builds.
Put it this way,
If you CC or immobilize the revenant and then use rapid fire you should be fine.
If you plan is to stay at ranged and only use ranged weapons then your going to die.
Is it really a hard concept to think before you unload all your skills?
I looked at revenant skills wiki.
Every thing leads to brokenly op stuff.
1) Low cooldown with energy compensation => thief cancer system reproduced with little adjustments. Be sure that energy limitations will be like initiative…not sufficient to manage fair balance with other classes
2) Broken access to stab sharing which will put guards out with the recent stab change
3) Broken access to low cool ranged down aoe cc which will be brokenly op with last stab change.
4) Broken counter to condis with broken ability to apply huge amount of torment confusion burning. 5 rev were ble to go above 100 stacks of confusion on a world boss at beta.(yes 100 as anet is working on changing the cap for conditions)
5) Best access to blast finisher with 3 blast each 8 sec and fire field on mace
…I stop here … but the list is long.
This is not just a matter of adjustments. This is out of control…and will remain as we have an initiative like mechanic.
You may actually want to play the beta,
So far my impressions are
If you pressure the Revenant they will buckle
They have no real stun breaks outside of one legend or traits. ( and the trait is a GM)
They have no vigor
The heal they have is pretty weak ( numbers show its a way less than heal signet warr, and i believe less than medi guard also)
They have no real access to protection like guardian
No blocks
Condi Clear tied to traits and one legends elite and heal skill
Resistance =/= to condi clear its a short lived boon, and can ( AND WILL BE) removed seeing as how the revenant doesnt have cover boons in mass like engi or ele.
The class is weapon locked. Either its melee or ranged, not both, and both have glaring weaknesses.
The only real problem I saw while playing this class was the spammability with the Janis Elite, but that was a bug, and wont exist when this class in beta tested again ( if phantasmal haste is any indication of the speed of how A-net fixes class problems)
This reminds me of when everyone cried that mesmer was OP on release and as everyone started playing more, people realized mesmer was pretty easy to kill when you knew what to do.
But the QQ from people unwilling to adapt and learn will always be the plague that is GW2 Forums
Oh well, on mesmer i switch to focus every 25s and sometimes to staff every 10s in order to be able to move fast, other classes can’t have it worse than this ^^
No traveler runes?
GLHF pressing 11111 with your boring living story zombie key mashers
- said the dungeon runner.
Sorry, couldn’t resist, the irony was stunning.Anyway, don’t get your hopes up in new dungeon, I’m hoping “challanging” content will be challanging.
Do something harder than ac.
None of them are harder than AC.
Sounds like someone is getting carried.
Lets be honest.
There isn’t a dungeon in this game that is challenging.
Either your zerk rushing or your doing something completely different for the lol’s.
One is going to be faster than the other.
But no dungeon in this game is especially difficult
Arah can be just as easy (or easier depending on your group) as AC
How did you manage to have a thread in which you say revenant is boring..
Then, on the same day
Come out with a thread about how you think revs are OP…
Did you really?!
The problem I have with the hammer is that the auto-attack is a 100% projectile finisher. I don’t see how this is fair, and it goes against all other designs in the game. Projectile auto-attacks have always been a 20% chance projectile finisher since they can be used endlessly. This makes it so that you can try to save your guaranteed projectile finishers to combo in fields.
I know the projectile is slow, but so is something like ranger and warrior longbow. Not only that, but the hammer pierces by default, so it can potentially hit more targets on average than either of those two weapons.
This is exacerbated with the #4 skill as this causes every auto-attack to now steal life due to the guaranteed projectile finisher. If it pierces, you can get life steal on multiple enemies at once. It just seems like it could end up being a powerful combo that is more or less just handed to the revenant.
On the flip side, that’s the only projectile attack the hammer has, since neither the Jalis nor Mallyx forms provide any projectiles of any kind (perhaps the other legends will have some though). Without weapon swap, they also cannot swap to a weapon to gain projectile finishers. So not using a guaranteed projectile finisher could kind of screw the revenant in that regard.
Alternatively, maybe the #4 skill should not be a dark field? This way, the revenant will still have the reliable projectile finisher, but will not be able to just summon a mobile field to combo with whenever they want.
I don’t think the stability road is too powerful. From what I could see, there’s a delay on the first pulse of stability, so you might end up laying it and then get CC’d off it right away. It also locks you in place, so it’s worth in something like WvW will be questionable given how mobile the combat is there. I could see it being quite useful in sPvP though. However, you do need to be in Jalis form to use it, and camping in one form basically cuts your own self-healing in half, among other things.
The displacement effect on the #9 skill on Mallyx form does worry me a bit. I’m sure someone will come up with some creative way to abuse that, but I can’t really think of one. I just know that being able to push groups around like that could potentially do some weird stuff.
I also think the axe #4 could be extremely powerful. However, I did not get to play any PvP, so I can’t really comment on how it works out.
besides the fact your first point was proven false…
Realize that the revenant, Unlike other heavy armored classes is stuck with one weapon set and worse, if this comes to be how the class works, No choice of there utilities.
The class has no way to change weapons for any given situation in combat
The class has no way to change from melee to range if it’s needed in combat
The class has very little ranged AoE like that of the ele or necro
The class has few ( VERY FEW) stun breaks ( We are not counting the bug which is going to be fixed)
The class with hammer has no real condition damage
One hard CC skill on a weapon that is slow ( I will be surprised if people get killed by this)
Not a lot of conditon removal
No movement skills or escape ports on it’s only ranged weapon we got to test.
No vigor
D/P thieves are gonna have a field day with a hammer rev if its alone.
I mean honestly the only real selling points to stay with hammer
- You MIGHT fight someone dumb enough to sit in the long animation that is hammer 5
- You may fight someone who is oblivious enough to continue to use ranged attacks while you are deflecting.
- You might get lucky and negate someones condi burst long enough to kill them.
-You might get lucky and negate someones burst long enough to kill them.
- You have stability out the wazzu ( it may or may not be stolen or removed)
- You have a ranged chill
-You have a projectile finisher with a dark field.
at capture points spvp, revs will be owned. but stronghold and wvw, they will shine.
revs are meant for pve and wvw.
It’s going to be a utility bot in WvW and possible PvE.
I don’t see it being much of a killer vs a pure group supporter.
I think this is what scares people.
It has the ability to make group fights that much harder for pure zerk or condi teams
Reve has a lot of Resistance, immobing him will do nothing.
Reve also has to choose 2 from 5 legends and at this point tell me..why you would use power weapon with condi based legend? Also Mallyx is easy to cc/burst down.
That’s why you can quickly switch to Jalis and spam that Elite to take that burst for free. It takes 0.5 second to switch, and the CD is just 10 in combat. (0 CD if not in combat)
And at this point you also lose access to resistance boon. Once you swap to Jalis you wont be able to use elite more than one time as well (50% energy going down to 10). See? Its not all that easy as it looks like
^ this.
Either you switch to take the burst and lose to conditions OR you take the condi immunity and lose to burst.
You cant have both.
a class that has no stun breaks and a locked-in healing skill…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empty_Vessel
Technically it has 2 of 5 healing skills available at any given time.
Yes but first whats the cd on swaping legends 60s 90s 120s?
Then having to lock down a grandmaster trait to be able to have stun breakers really?there is no cooldown
there is a cooldown for swapping legends, I believe 7( or 9?) seconds per swap in combat.
While the heal skills had a 30 second cd regardless on if you try and stance dance.
I do think the Revenant in group play looks strong. Mainly the Rite of the Great Dwarf to me is too spammable and needs its energy cost increased and its effect duration slightly increased.
The Revenant has no reliable stun breaks without traiting for it. This is going to be a weakness that is either going to follow the class until release or fixed with the addition of more legends.
The hammer didn’t seem like it was “all that and a bag of chips” to me either. I think like others have said, adding pressure to the rev (especially when they have a hammer) is the way to go.
I don’t think the Revenant is going to be “OP”.
I do think it’s going to directly counter some playstyles and make others very difficult.
But this is all speculation playing an incomplete class, with incomplete traits.
(edited by Solori.6025)
Ok…I have to make a small correction to my first statement..this zone is actually huge
..like…
there is an entire seperate part below us that i didn’t notice
Another thing to add ( don’t know if it’s been mentioned)
The Revenant Auto attack is suffering from the same ranged bug as rangers auto with the trait.
I can hit the Wyvern on the platform from a good 14-1500 units
First of all, BRAVO Anet. The stress test went smoothly and the artwork is BEAUTIFUL. There ARE things I’ve noted, but I’ll post them in a merged forum. Now, onto the point of my post here:
While anet asked for everyone to post feedback on the forums, I think the true meaning of today was lost in the crossfire. Today was a STRESS TEST, not a full on beta. The purpose of today was to see how their technology handled us. Obviously there are still things to be revealed, obviously things still need work, and even more obviously, they aren’t going to give you everything during a stress test. So, stop complaining about this not being done or how “worst beta ever”. This wasn’t a true beta, it was a stress test and was clearly designated as such. Again, bravo Anet. My hype has never been more real!
They did ask for feedback.
But i assumed it was for the small amount of content we would be able to access in the couple of hours we had.
So far with the stress test I noticed a small FPS loss at the beginning. And a sound glitch that has happened to me before like a year ago, not sure what causes it but it returned.
I didn’t expect a lot from the stress test but I was expecting a little more than the Demo.
For future note A-net, if you are having a stress test with content that has already been played and viewed at a major convention. You may as well invite everyone who signs up. You aren’t revealing anything new and the numbers would probably help test the server a bit more. Just my two cent’s on that matter.
I noticed some things with the rev.
-The mace sometimes would activate very slowly, specifically the 2 and 3.
-Offhand axe is a dream. It’s what I wanted it to be, but, I think that pull could use a small radius increase, OR a quicker activation.
- You may run into some balance issue’s with the utility skill’s, namely the displacement in the demon invocation. I would honestly increase the energy cost a slight bit.
- No stun breakers, while I do understand that the class isn’t finished, this is something I hope to see later for utilities, because for stuns and KB I had to trait for a removal.
If you don’t plan on giving the class stun breaks on it’s utilities ( which I already know is a ludicrous idea) I would move the trait to adept. So the class isn’t shoehorned into that trait line, like the mesmer is with DE for the majority of it’s meta builds.
- The starter area is small. I do not mean this as an ungrateful child, but the entrance zone is not going to hold us over, I do hope you add something in the zone to keep us coming back into it. Otherwise the zone will end up like strait’s or southsun.
My idea for this is to make an event of some sort that directly effects or unlocks an event in the later parts of the world. Something to tie in the importance of the new zone with the others instead of it being a stepping stone that you never really want to revisit after you have completed the masteries.
-I enjoyed the music. Great scores.
-The hammer is a great weapon, its fast and ties into the fast pace feel that I think you are going for with the revenant.
However. The skill 3 that teleports you( i believe it was 3 I dont remember the name) has a small delay that to me made the weapon a bit sluggish.
-The Wyvern
So I am not gonna lie, and I appreciate the thought that went into the fight but, It is lackluster.
It needs something more to make it dangerous, or at least a threat to ranged players.
It needs a mechanic that you really really don’t want to get hit by that is area wide and a killer.
I think the marionette (which imo think was an awesome awesome boss fight ( probably one of the best ones since release ) should be a bit of inspiration for its tweeks OR even a phase that needs condi pressure?). Something different needs to be done to make the encounter a bit more ..epic
Right now the new boss does nothing to discourage the zerk meta
Thanks for the opportunity to test.
(edited by Solori.6025)
So ultimately, under specific conditions that can be influenced by both defenders and attackers, defenders when inside their own area of the map will gain a significant advantage against a large number of builds.
This sounds like it’s balanced quite perfectly actually. If your team can’t be bothered to go take out the lava shrines, then you pay the price by allowing them a strong defensive advantage. Conversely, if they can’t be bothered to control their lava shrines, they don’t gain access to that defensive advantage.
I really don’t understand the complaints here. This just means you can’t blindfold yourself and roll your face across the keyboard hoping to accomplish things in wvw. You’ll actually have to use your head and figure out how to tactically assault various keeps.
If this quote sums the new system up, I don’t see an issue what so ever with it. If they’re immune to burning whilst in their area (fire keep), I dont see a problem with the other side having to send a havoc squad/second group round to defeat the fire temple or whatever it is.
I agree with this.
Work as a team, succeed as a team.
Why is this going to be bad?
Didn’t we want to promote small roaming groups and not death balls?
@OP:
Sorry that the additional strategy is too complex. For many of us, we like the idea of our own personalized food/armor choices. If you don’t, go to PvP.
Not much strategy involved really.
You pick the food that boost an area in your build.
End of story.
But I am curious. What strategy is there to pop +100power food and go and gank someone?
@OP
If this was a suggestion a year ago i may have gotten behind this.
As this game is now, you cant balance WvW anymore
Those with rank points > new players without
The power creep is real and the advantage is pretty visible.
best to spend money on what ever strong food you need , farm EoTM for rank and role with it.
l2p
Always L2p for other class? except for thief class
play a guardian or engi?
A well played Guardian is a hardcounter to thieves
LOL so this is whats going to happen.
The expansion will be probably 39.99-49.99USD
Some people will buy it, others will not.
The people that do buy it will start enjoying the new content, finishing masteries for character’s etc.
The others will enjoy the core game and wait and see.
3 months later arena net will do something silly, like add in a living story in the new jungle that may or may not open up a new dungeon or zone.
6 -8 months later HoT will be on sale for 20% off.
Worst case scenerio is that people who play this game hardcore will start to form a bias towards those without the expansion. Pvp’ers will most likely see themselves at a disadvantage against certain specializations or being hardcountered by the new class ( maybe)
At worst, a rift will grow between those that have and those that don’t.
Point is.
It doesn’t really matter how much it cost.
It could be 59.99USD and people will buy it
I’m one of those people, not because i specifically love anet, but because so far, from all the other games I have played since Everquest. I still actively enjoy this one.
How much do you like the game to spend money on it?
Was the base product worth your money?
Are you going to blow through content in a week?
Are you a power gamer, and will this give you some sort of advantage?
Valid questions you should ask yourself before you spend money on any game really.
Rev all the way, I mean its the new SHINY after all
This and the mesmer for me
I got in. They sent another wave of invites last night.
Not gonna lie, I was super salty when I didn’t get one yesterday. So I feel for everyone that didn’t get in, and I hope we can play together in the next Beta
We all learned from this thread , that the worst part of GW2 community is the WvW community.
I actually think it’s the other way around, but that’s just me.
Nope, it’s usually the PvP communities that are the most toxic and hostile.
Depends on who you ask.
I have met some really really nasty pve guilds as of late.
And some really nasty elitist slobs on LFG that gate other people based on the class they play and their AP points.
Are we still BS around the risk reward crap. You always cancel out of it, and it never hits anyone for any significant damage, there is literally NO risk and NO reward involved. That is not risk/reward, thats is a NONSKILL, might as well have a blank spot there.
If you think there is no risk, then there is no reason for you to care.
Yes there is because there is no reward either, might as well just give me 4 skills with GS for all this does.
Yeah, HB does very low dps, thats why warriors don’t use it in dungeon runs.
If you cared to read this is a pvp oriented thread, pve conrflake comps dont need balancing.
If you cared to read my post. You would know that warrior uses HB for a reason.
Yes, i do use it in dungeos, same as blurred frenzy or the axe from the ranger, the reason is quite simple. AI is stupid enough to stand its full length on the same place. Some people here seem to be as competent as AI.
What will the game suffer from when these skills no longer have a root?
Nothing much, HB does good damage assuming you could hit anything with it, but on average GS does terrible damage. Blurred Frenzy does terrible damage as well as Sword for Mesmer. You deal with it the same way you deal WW, you give it something like 80% move speed and you dodge out of it, no thing new under the sun, you could even adjust its damage.
Also, on average all the warriors channeled skills do crap damage, because they are meant to rise adrenaline not kill your opponent.
We aren’t just talking about greatsword warriors.
Blurred frenzy can do decent damage and can even kill someone ( though not all on its own) with the right setup.
What will be used to stop the channel, what counterplay will we have? Consider all event’s that could happen, that will limit you from being able to avoid the attacks.
What about a thieves pistol whip?
It’s had its damage nerfed, but again with the right build and the right setup you can do very decent damage coupled with constant pressure.
What will be the counterplay once this skill stops rooting? How will people deal with this plus the stun and evasion if it doesn’t root?
Consider churning earth, which in itself is a team skill ( imo) how are we going counter that in a team setting when the skill no longer requires team synergy to root the target they want to blast?
Guardian hammer has a ring CC, how will you counter that when the root is gone?
There are a lot more things to think about other than just " does this do a lot of damage"
like
Does this give the class more counterplay options?
Will the changing of these skill’s create a power gap?
Will the changing of these skills remove the counterplay they already have and if so, by how much?
Will this change the meta in a good way or will it make more classes unplayable?
I’m all for changing the skills. But it needs to be done wisely and it needs to be done so we dont have another 6 months of inbalanced god-mode classes
The ammount of cc and/or immob needed for them to work just makes most of the self rooting melee skills useless.
Hence, High skill and high reward.
gs warrior completely useless anyone can dodge 100blades. If you plan wasting utilities to cc the enemy they still can just stun break and walk away.
GS warrior does extremely high damage. Wasting utilties to CC the enemies is what should happen.
churning earth takes so long to cast that you will never land that in a 1v1 if the enemy knows how to dodge.
Churning Earth has a Cripple pulse. It also have a big AoE ring. Which means it is intended for team fights, not 1v1. Not every skill has to work for 1v1 situation.
The few self root skills that work are the ones that have inherent stun or immob in the same skill or weapon set. Like pistol whip that comes with a stun and blurred frenzy that has the immob in the same weapon, making combos easy.
It also come with a cost. The fact that you become a sitting duck. Players can focus fire on you.
When was the last time you landed a complete 100blades in anything other than a pve boss that sits and eat the dmg?
The GS/Longbow Warrior build is a viable build. I played a bit and I was able to get a lot of HB down on enemies. Opening with Bull’s Rush + Hundred blades allow me to get a high burst damage on the enemies. I can also use HB on downed enemies to make their hp go down and also get the resser’s hp down. If the enemies dodge out of the way, it isn’t a big deal, HB cd is only 8-10 seconds.
But to answer your question, the last time I landed a complete 100blades was 3 hours ago when I was playing with the GS/LB build.
It is not ‘’high skill high rewared’’. It is actually impossible to land a complete 100blades in a 1v1 vs any decent player and the reward is not that great. If it was only a player skill issue then we would see people using GS on tournaments, which is not the case.
If a player take full 100blades dmg that is because they are completly noobs. In a hotjoin MM works, does not mean it will work when facing a competent player.
And about gs/lb, it is not viable. No one is using it in tournaments because it is several times worse than a shoutbow or the old hambow.
You might as well say, it is actually impossible to land anything worthwhile in a 1v1 vs any decent player. If you want to pull the “Skillz players can dodge dis!” card
I fought someone that dodged all my most important d/d ele attacks because he was simply more skilled than me even if my skills are not self-rooted.
But yeah, GS/LB isn’t meta. But what you are wrong is that GS/LB doesn’t need a buff, it is that cele stuff needs a nerf.
Wait there. Now you want to compare a self root skill that has a 3.5s to cast with all the other skills in the game? A player walking is able to avoid most part of 100blades. Also the biggest hit at the end makes it even worse.
Aren’t you the same player who went on a mesmer crusade claiming that shatter mes was the most powerful and uncounterable mesmer build?
On a serious note has everyone thought of the consequences of removing the self root from melee skills that have them?
Like what do you do to counter a D/D ele using churning earth running around you?
What do we do about a moving blurred frenzy, or pistol whip
What will the game suffer from when these skills no longer have a root?

Revenant gets 2 condi on crit trait.
2 years after, mesmer still doesnt have a confusion on crit trait, while other classes apply confusion better.:(
i’m pretty sure mesmer’s don’t need more conditions on crit
Seeing as we can get torment, bleeding, and confusion using our class mechanics or just spawning clones and phantasm’s
Lets not forget the added condi damage buff we received when they buffed staff
You know, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it..
For the class you are interested in, name a few weapons that you don’t want for the specialization .
This a spin on the current topic of what weapons you do want.
Since we are told that future Specializations will come down the road, which may mean all weapons become available at some point.
So tell us what weapons interest you the least as a specialization for each class.
I don’t want shield for mesmer …..
But you know what I’m getting anyway -_-
And so it begins, This class will be nerfed from pure speculation and no real hands on experience.
Welcome to the Guild Wars community right?
1 + 25 Power
2 + Taunt Duration
3 + 50 Power
4. When you taunt an enemy that enemy is slowed
5 + 100 Power
6+When an enemy is taunted they are marked “Dishonorable” by there ancestor’s
The Legendary Mushu punishes them, applying 10 torment and 15 confusion
Wait, when did orr become hard or a ping pong fest?
Did I miss something?
Did stun breaks and dodging stop working?
Is stability broken?
Heyzues, i totally call it
So what I took from the threads and article today.
-Condition thieves/mesmers/engi’s are finally getting some sort of counter in WvW
-People running with no stun break will drown us in tears
- Celestial heavy class seems like a thing that may happen
-Tank rev is going to be funny in classic spvp
-Revenants will go through a 3 month period of being “OP” because people wont adapt
-Quickness counter
- PvE will become a tad bit harder because of the new boons and conditions, forcing some of the pure zerk community to reconsider there options, for once.
Because all of you know this will come.
“Everyone is playing a Revenant
Therefore, Revenant is an OP class.”
“Everyone wouldn’t be playing it if it wasn’t OP”
“They do more damage than eviscerate”
“I was 2 shot by a revenant”
“Revenant has too many tools”
The concept of ‘Hard’ is pretty relative to the individual. I’m sorry that you’re not gonna feel as special when there are a few more people walking around with legendaries, but that’s your problem. Don’t wish for the hardship of others so that you can maintain a personal definition of person you get through the exclusivity of your digital objects.
As an aside to this post, present actual information when trying to make a point; don’t just loop-macro ’it’s too easy’ and ‘I said to make it harder’. Those statements hold no real meaning.
That special feeling is long gone aswell, thats why im saying there needs to be a harder weapon to obtain than even current legendarys. Something for endgame players with time on their hands. Something that isn’t as easy to obtain and isnt for casual players.
Trust me i worked harder for my legendarys then anybody in this thread, i made one of the first 3 sunrises and i didn’t use the gemstore. I payed 25g for dawn, but at that time 25g made me literally the richest player in the game (which wasn’t easy to obtain). I went back and took a screenshot of my purchase history about a year ago.
Even having to grind every day to farm the materials, gold and currencies needed it was still easy to obtain the item, it was 100% time gated. There needs to be a skill gate or something that is going to make you “try”.
Wait…So
It’s ok for the current system is what your saying?
Do you know what the collection will entail?
Have you seen the mastery system?
Sound’s to me like your one of those people who made a lot of gold off luck, and now when it’s about to be shared with the rest of the gaming community you want it to be harder so you can keep your share of the market.
Elitist doesn’t even begin to describe this thread and its maker.
Problem 1: It’s Completely Expansion Exclusive
Negative Incentive: Why Not to Make Masteries Expansion ExclusiveTL;DR, The masteries associated with the core game should not be locked behind the expansion, but given to any owner of Guild Wars 2. This functions as both an incentive to get the expansion for the cooler Heart of Thorns part, and a way to keep the community together even when it “splits” over the expansion.
I don’t think this will change.
Just like in GW1 if you didn’t buy the expansion you didn’t get new classes, you didn’t get new armor, achievements, zones, dungeons, etc.
This will most likely continue with GW2.
Secondly, this is a carrot on a stick so to speak for people to buy the expansion in the first place.
If you want extra weapons, progression, or what ever else.
You need to buy it.
If you don’t want it, don’t buy.
A-net employee’s need to eat too, and apparently they realize this.
Because mastery’s will be HoT exclusive.
