4 Weeks Price Reduction > Good Dungeon?

What’s the most you’re going to save off of the WP fee reduction?… like one gold total, at the very max? At the very least if you are one that likes the BL Keys, you can stock up on them during the 4 week sale, and use them for later.

Although I fear that saving that one gold or so from the WP’s is going to really influence a lot of people, who would put that ahead of their preferences for permanent content.

The agony of Charr armor. (Long read)

Surbrus.6942

It’s no secret charr armor is for the most part stretched over human modeling. As much as I dislike it on my charr I understand why – it would add a bunch of extra modeling stuff.

I rather have the old caster charr bipedal walk first before proper fitting armor. Clipping doesn’t really bother me

It is not unprecedented for Anet to fix some of the Charr armours. Remember back when Arah medium armour was a clipping nightmare?.. and remember how they did a great job fixing it (the spine from the coat running down the Charr’s tail, rather than the Charr’s tail simply clipping through the spine).

Additionally, since there is so few Charr approved armours out there, even a couple fixes would drastically improve the wardrobe selection for Charrs. Basically improving Charr armour at this stage is the biggest bang for the buck (adjusting a handful of existing armour skins would multiply the amount of valid armours for an entire race).

Also, I see absolutely no excuse for why some Charr cultural armours weren’t even designed with Charr in mind (Light T3 is horrendous, it was obviously made for humans and simply stretched to fit the Charr model, clipping and all). Really, the excuse that the armour was designed for other races doesn’t even apply in the slightest when the only race the armour is even able to be equipped on does fit it.

On the subject of bi-pedal/“caster” Charr, I like that idea a lot, to ad more variety, however it would be terrible to used as a “fix”.

When in PvE to use non-Mind Wrack shatters?

The benefit does not increase with multiple clones, and the delay makes it too difficult to time effectively.

You can actually get extra dazes (at least for knocking off Defiant) if you stagger the distance of your illusions to their target. Alternatively have each of your illusions targeting a different enemy that are spread out, Diversion shatter and the clones will daze different targets. This example is generally much more effort than its worth though.

Just use it for causing dazes at your position (with Illusionary Persona), or for sending one clone in to daze your target. This also helps when you are running away from something/someone, summon a clone on them, then Diversion to have that clone run back and daze your pursuer (this works very well with Elusive Evasion, as you dodge an attack from your pursuer, then daze him with the clone you just made from your dodge).

Also, a lot of the time when you daze a PvE enemy, they will act as if they are stunned. They stop moving and everything, so just keep in mind that Diversion is basically a stun for PvE enemies.

"Condition" vs "Power" phantasms

iWhaler used to be such a better condition Phantasm though. Confusion that you cannot apply at the right moment is generally useless. Back when iWhaler had bleeds on his attacks (and even more bleeds from Sharper Images), he was a beast.

Agreeing with those saying that iDualist and iBerzerker are the real condition Phantasms (when traited and high crit). I’ve used a crit-bleed Mesmer build since September, and iDualist and iBerzerker were some of my bet damaging attacks (as well as iWhaler underwater… RIP).

When in PvE to use non-Mind Wrack shatters?

Surbrus.6942

I use distortion all the time for avoiding hits while rezzing party members. Diversion is a good second option (interrupt the attack). As a zerker Mesmer I rarely use Cry of Frustration, for obvious purposes, but when I’m in my condition damage gear I’ll use it for a confusion bomb. However confusion is generally an absolutely terrible condition for PvE, as the enemies attack so slow, you might not even get a single “hit” of confusion.. unless you are using it as a gimmick, like using it just before Subject Alpha does his big AoE attack for a truckload of damage.

Other uses of Diversion and Distortion in PvE would just be when you just want another interrupt or a little extra time of invuln. When soloing champions as a zerker Mesmer, I’ll use them a whole lot (because you need can really use every tool you have when challenging yourself like that). Diversion is also useful for knocking off charges of Defiant.

In short, unless you are picking up other people who got downed in nasty places, you won’t have to use these skills in normal play. However you should, if anything to just practice.

Note: Diversion and Distortion are orders of magnitude better when you have the Illusionary Persona trait (Grandmaster Illusions).

No doubt i was bad, and im still a scrub thief. But the whole “die tons of times” never really happend… Infact, roaming and fighting is rediculously easy as a Thief. I see a zerg rolling in my direction, i dont even have to flee.

Stealth, and just wait for them to run by or tag along and see where they are going. Killing off stragglers.

Actually, you can do this with any class if the zerg isn’t full of noobies who will chase after a single guy. If the zerg is a threat (and you aren’t outmanned) then they are not going to waste their time chasing a single guy, no matter which class you are. At most you’ll get a couple militia breaking ranks, or a couple ranged attacks fired at you as they run past.

Actually, if the zerg did chase after a single player, that single player is being a huge asset to their team in typing that group up, no matter which class they are playing as. Example, the other week I baiting a low discipline zerg of about 20 people or more away from a camp for a couple minutes until the point tally. Granted this was on my no-stealth evasion Thief, but I’ve done the same or similar on my Mesmer, even Necro and Guardian(!).

If you as a roamer somehow have the attention of a zerg, then abuse it.

I just had my thousand or so Badges sitting in the inventory of an alt I don’t use that much anymore… then Anet decided to give us all another thousand or so. I’ve always been willy nilly with spending my badges since I always have so many, back in September/October I was even using them to buy the WvW exotics just for the skins (and name on the skin) then transmuting them to the stats I wanted.

I would really like more options to spend badges on, in particular more options to dump them on Ascended gear or stuff like that. As it is right now, I’m mostly just waiting a while for all the non-WvWers to finish spending their badges on siege to sell on the TP, so that the prices will rise, then doing the same myself for higher prices in the future.

I would much prefer the clone actually leaps to the target (why not, iSwordman can) so the terrain won’t be a problem anymore.

Back in Beta Weekend1 the Illusion could actually leap… but that was back when the skill was actually two different skills, one which was a leap skill like the Warrior sword leap where you leap a clone behind, and the other skill where you stay still but the clone does the Warrior sword-like leap.

Also, sometimes the clone has a leap-like animation… they still are constrained by the dumb AI when not on a perfectly flat surface though, even if they look like they are jumping through the air.

You could argue that Smodur the Flinching and his lackeys in the Iron Legion are the real renegades here. They are all fine and good with taking credit from the Flame Legion’s work (retaking Ascalon), but then they forfeit Charr sovereignty to what are basically multinational corporations (Vigil, Pact) allowing for foreigners to come tromping around in the Charr’s internal politics and disputes.

I agree that a great job was done with Ebonhawk, the atmosphere and all the neat little things in it are very nice… however I vehemently disagree with a lot of Smodur’s leadership actions when it is coming to working with non Charr. However my beef isn’t really with Ebonhawk, its more with the Vigil and Pact having their military forces running around unchecked and interfering with Charr politics and internal disputes… especially so when Iron so proudly takes credit for some of the actions achieved by their foe (Flame) that they have these foreign troops fighting.

Adding a gear treadmill doesn’t increase the power of your characters, there is a reason why it is called a “treadmill”, because you basically have to work to stay at the same power level.

Gearing up alts and alt builds is already stupidly time consuming with Ascended Jewellery, and most people can no never hope to gear up their alts to 100%. A treadmill will just put the nail in the coffin for people who like having multiple builds and a number of alts… all so that people like you OP, can see you’re abstract numbers be bigger abstract numbers… while turning the PvE into even more of a joke.

I’ve been a Shatter Mesmer ever since Beta Weekend Event 1. The moment I first discovered and played around with Illusionary Persona was when I decided that I must have this trait. I’ve heavily considered different builds, and have played around with my traits a lot… however the 20 in Duelling and 30 in Illusions has been my mainstay (it was only 15 in Duelling for clone on dodge back in beta).

I do play around with different weapon and gear sets, from conditions (confusion, staff, and/or crit bleeds), to zerkzerkzerk shatter, hybrid damage sources, and other… but yeah, that x/20/x/x/30 is always there… and I guess that makes me a Shatter Mesmer. I would really like to do an interrupt focused Mesmer though.. that seems like it would be really fun…

Not really, I’m a ranger, a good portion of my damage is not based on my stats, I am still able to kill a little faster than most mobs can re populate in most areas I hunt in, so zerk gear is not really a big improvement for me. In my experience I just flat out get better drops(more t5 mats) per hour when using MF.

Ok that is decent then, if kill time is not the limiting factor in farming, but the re spawn times for your route. But in some/a lot of cases you may be able to expand your farming spot and just zerk down more enemies.

And yeah, MF in temple events would not be very courteous, it wouldn’t risk a failed event as much as pulling enemies into VIP’s under your protection, but it would add more of a risk of the event failing for everyone by scaling up the event to more than the group can handle.

You people have been crying like kitten children over MF for the last year and now it’s going away.

However perhaps if you played around with the graphical settings, there might be some set up that would better highlight the platforms for you.

After months of playing with MF, I’ve become accustomed to this, and some may say it doesn’t may a difference, but I feel like it does.

The only difference MF gear makes for you, is it means that you are doing less damage, killing things slower, getting fewer drops, but the magic find might make up for it. Its better to just use zerker stats, kill things faster, kill more things, and you’ll get just as much as someone in MF.

The only valid use of MF is if you are being a leech, letting other people kill the enemies for you, and simply tagging them. These leeches are bad for the group in some events where a champion or some such might scale up to account for more players being in the fight, even though some of them aren’t contributing to chipping away that scaled up HP pool.

Zerker will be more powerful than ever since we are getting ascended armor

This is only a wild theory on how Anet plans to kill theory own game. I would take this point seriously. If I did take it seriously, I would say to simply make power damage scale the same as condition damage, perhaps allow for conditions to crit, a new stat to multiply the effectiveness of conditions, simply scale condition damage better, or add diminishing returns to zerker stats.

This has always been the case with skills that turn you translucent, and armour with particle effects. I first experienced this when using the Molten Gauntlets with a Necromancer’s Spectral Walk skill.

The easy and cleanest way to fix this would to be just disable particle effects when the character is turned translucent, there’s already enough particle effects with those skills that they’d just obscure the armour particle effects anyways.

The good thing about achievements and titles is that if you put a skill gate on them, the people who cannot meet the required skill are not denied of anything other than a couple letters, or an abstract number… however many of the low skill achievement hunters with entitlement issues can’t even accept that… they are ever insistant on adding more and more stuff that is only time gated, not skill gated.

However I think the Plated boots are a bit too heavy looking for the rest of the set, makes it almost look like you’re boots are the heaviest part of your suit of armour. Being able to show of that fur pattern is great, that’s another great thing that adds to your look.

Now the only time it is worth it to use Chaos Armour is when you have a staff out, and only because the cast time is instant. Using it as a combo field is now such a bad idea that everytime I see it pop up I cringe because the etherial field was the field that combo-ed off that finisher, not any other field. Yes I am aware that Chaos Armour from combos was still the old beta verion (no auto protection), but at least it didn’t have an internal cool down which strips it of its only use.

in Necromancer

Surbrus.6942

Necros have almost NO viable stun breakers. They are arguably one of the most control-vulnerable classes in the game.

Personally I’ve never had a problem here. Spectral Armour is great, stun breaker and granting you protection really helps negate an incoming spike of damage. Death Shroud is another great tool, both for absorbing incoming damage, as well as getting any abilities going off when you enter Deathshroud (Enfeebling Blood weakens, for even more damage mitigation). Hell you can even Doom your enemy while you are stunned.

Basically, complaining about Necros stunbreakers is kind of moot, because Necromancers have different ways of dealing with things than other classes. You can’t just play a Necro like you want to play any other class, as we Necro’s have different ways of mitigating damage. The lack of stability can be pretty annoying though.

Personally I never really understood the complaints about this class or that class not having a “viable” 1200 range weapon. Sure it is nice to have long range like that, but it is not required. If you are fighting at 1200 range, you are probably either doing PvE or fighting against a zerg… in the case of PvE your enemies are stupid and easy to overcome, while fighting a zerg you aren’t going to hit your intended target, but you are going to hit a whole lot of unintended targets, which means that you’re still doing some nice damage.

Yes Necromancer got some very nice buffs recently, but I’m pretty sure that the accusations of Necromancer being OP is mostly just bad players trying to find a scapegoat, as those types of players always have their scapegoats lined up.

As has been said elsewhere on the Necro forums, there are a lot of flavour of the month Necro players who are playing Necro now because they heard that it was OP. Personally the way I handle enemy Necromancers hasn’t really changed at all since that patch… because really, not that much has changed… its just that you run into a whole lot more Necromancers out there due to this perception.

The only reason that is ‘WvW’ is because they made it accessible from WvW. It doesn’t feel, act like, or really has any similarities to anything else in WvW.

Is that even really that important though? Its a Jumping Puzzle, of course it doesn’t feel like the rest of WvW. Also for some people that’s the most fun place to PvP in WvW.

As for drawing the “worst sort”, well to those of us that actually like this stuff, that is just part of it. Those sorts of people are usually pretty bad at PvP anyways, so for those that are decent/good at PvP, it can be really rewarding to outwit and then cleave a path right through these campers.

Basically a lot of people come into a PvP area and get all hung up about people PvPing in ways they don’t like. The best response is probably simply “deal with it”.

As for Fractals of the Mists, I’m not quite sure. For me it’s a dungeon, so PvE, but maybe some people see that differently.

I’ve actually seen many achievement hunters moaning and groaning about being “required” to do the FotM achievements related to the Living World addition. I think that is just as bizarre as believe you would think it is, and just as I (and many others who play enjoy multiple parts of the game) think that your self imposed restrictions are bizarre.

You do realize I meant separating the game modes in relation to the LS, right? Since that’s what’s the hot topic in here and the subject I was replying to.

I don’t see why the LS should be restricted. Its supposed to be new content, why shouldn’t it include the rest of the game? Back during the Halloween event we had lots of Halloween related stuff in WvW, why should we be excluded from certain “holiday-like” updates?

What about the large number (majority?) of WvWers that like the rest of the game as well? I think you’re projecting your self imposed restrictions on everyone else. Not everyone has such odd restrictions on what they allow themselves to do.

Besides, its not that people who focus mainly on WvW don’t like nice shiny things, its just that our preferred game type means that we get the short end of the stick when it comes to such things.

In the end, these are obviously WvW achievements (as you have to enter WvW to get them), just like the kite achievement in the Cliffside Fractal is a FotM achievement.

And for emphasis, the reason why these two modes aren’t kept separate with an autistic passion is because most people actually like it.

As a general rule, condition damage sucks in PvE. The stacking limitations, and the fact that defensive stats are very much secondary for PvE means that zerker is just so much more powerful than conditions.

You probably want a bit of defensive stats, but make sure your toughness doesn’t get too high or you’ll draw a lot more aggro than you want to; even a thieve with high defences is rather squishy compared to other tanky builds.

The Thief doesn’t bring a whole lot of damage to the PvE party, and is squishy. If you want to be of the most use you’ll have to know how to take advantage of the utility the class offers… however that is the same case no matter which build you are using… just something to keep in mind.

Re dyes: most of the Fire and Frost dyes have nearly identical normal dye counterparts, for normal dye prices. Take some time to look around.

When I’m taking part in a siege with my Thief, I almost exclusively play the role of the scout, warning the siegers when enemy reinforcements are incoming. Yes, this is something that every class can do with the same proficiency… but we have the comparative advantage in this role (being nearly useless in any other aspect of a siege).

If I actually want to be useful in the siege, I’ll just swap to my Guardian or Necromancer…

This is how all stunbreakers work. If you use the stunbreaker while you are being thrown through the air by a knockback, you simply waste the stunbreaker. If it is a stunbreaker that teleports you, you will be teleported, but you will still be stunned… as you blew your stunbreaker at the wrong time.

Sometimes this just happens with NPC’s. The other day I was doing some lvl 48 FotM, and the Lava Shaman suddenly decided to reset his health pool, it was a pain.

I was taking screenshots of statues in LA (Box of Fun, petrified ability is the best!), and one of my screenies was interrupted by a literal bomb (with accompanying norn being thrown through the air).

I managed to take another screenshot without the norn being thrown across the background.

I agree with his statement. People today are too entitled. A lot of them remind me of spoiled children. Today’s motto seems to be: If at first you don’t succeed, whine about it until someone makes it easier for you.

Its not just the whining, these people also seem to be very hostile about defending their sense of entitlement. It truly is mind boggling. I do really hope that devs don’t pay as much attention to them, difficulty and depth of video games has already suffered greatly due to giving these people ground.

I finally see what the joke about “MMO players hate fun” was really referring to. It seems like all it is is chasing some arbitrary numbers with some of these people, rather than actually enjoying the game, or enjoying actual prestige that goes beyond increasing some big abstract number to a larger abstract number.
