You compare Elite specialisations to other specialisations that fill the same role, not to others of the same class. Soulbeast is DPS with some support, it doesn’t compete with druid in any way.

Or i can compare, as i already stated Ranger to Ranger. We already have a decent baseline for where Ranger Sits. Considering Soulbeast has to directly compete for the 3rd trait line it first has to compete with Ranger itself. Knowing this we can pretty safely place it relative to the others by doing the exact same thing across the board.

Why do you think they changed how all they New legendaries are made?

because it was too time consuming to add 80 new art assests, link to individual event chains, test each chain, make sure there was no fail condition etc….

Plenty of reasons, players playing the content had zilch to do with it.

Why not compaire soulbeast to any dps class instead of only compairing it to other ranger builds? Soulbeast might be a power dps on par with condi ranger so ye.. Also dont forget these condi nerfs happened to bring condi classes on the same lvl with power ones.

Also the reason i compare Ranger Specs to Ranger Specs is to get a good baseline as to where they will fit in currently. We already know where Ranger / Druid and Condi Druid sit, by comparing SB to these 3 it’s easier to see the tradeoffs and get a rough playing field for where SB will land relative to other classes.

Ranger (Soulbeast) Doubtful it can compete with druid without significant nerfs to druid first

It doesn’t have to compete with druid. Druid is good at what druid does, which is support. Soulbeast is not a support spec. Current condi ranger does not even use druid spec, so I’m guessing soulbeast will be the go to spec for condi rangers.

Sure and that’s fair, but the question then becomes about the changes to condi that are upcoming and if that knocks base condi ranger down enough to either Require Soulbeast or even have a spot.

http://imgur.com/a/yOwJy Its actually a cond elite, look at traits 10% cond duration, poison and bleed on AA. So cond ranger meta will 100% sure use soul beast

That trait is bad though. Especially for raiding, for it to be useful the boss would have to be nearly dead to begin with. All for a measly 10% ?

I could see it being better if it was foes had a less % health than you, but as its currently worded good luck using that for any significant portion of the fight.

But hey we’re approaching blizzard levels here where in, if everything is OP then nothing really is.

The fact that fractals has tiered difficulty with progressive rewards and people don’t use them but rather QQ about the top tier being too hard says a lot about what easy mode raids would look like.

The issue is that Tier 4 of fractals used to be much easier. Players invested in ascended gear and infusions with reasonable expectations to be able to continue playing the content at that level of difficulty.

I believe the bottom line for most of issues low and middling skilled players have with instanced PvE group content is risk vs reward.

We got too used to low risk (risk being defined as chance of raging teammates, party wipes and absolute failure to complete the instance) and high reward (gold, tokens and drops) activity. Now that the overall design seems to be shifting towards high risk and low-moderate rewards, some people are displeased. This is natural.

If you took a bit more of an objective view of these matters, I’m certain you can understand that although you’ve gained the sort of instanced content you enjoy others have not.

See though you have t3 which is low risk, and the exact rewards you’re asking for.
Sure T4 rewards aren’t revolutionary, but they aren’t the dumpsterfire you guys make them out to be. In fact they’re quite good, if you aren’t struggling which at T4 you shouldn’t be unless you make several mistakes (in which case drop down a tier until you improve)

Guardian (Firebrand) Probably still a mid tier dps, doesnt seem to show enough to break into other roles

Firebrand may kill the second mesmer who’s not tanking, though all that depends on many things we currently have no idea about. Thinking about future metas seems pretty pointless with the currently available information.

Pointless, sure. But its fun to speculate based on the little information tidbits we do have.

Like we have all of the Firebrand traits/skills. Even looking at that, the place looks shaky at best unless we see some more drastic changes pre PoF. (Which again we likely will).

But let us have some fun here with early speculation as its the only hype we can have.

based only on what extremely limited information we have

Ele(Weaver) will probably be back as the Pug numero uno dps
Engi(Holo) might push out any other power dps
Theif (Deadeye) Probably wont be raid viable, atleast not the rifle using kind.
Ranger (Soulbeast) Doubtful it can compete with druid without significant nerfs to druid first
Warrior (Spellbreaker) Eh..unless the skills work on bosses or the traits are legit bonkers there’ll be little change
Memser (Mirage) Not enough other tanks to push out chrono
Guardian (Firebrand) Probably still a mid tier dps, doesnt seem to show enough to break into other roles
Necromancer (Scourge) Interesting concept for an offensive support might shine where condi druid used too but otherwise not seeing it
Rev (Renegade) Doesn’t look like it offers enough to even come back to its former glory days of boonbots.

Now all this being said it really does more or less depend on any pre PoF changes that should be coming sooner rather than later. If boonshare takes a massive hit and power builds get a significant increase then some of this may change.

There’s no need for a simpler version in other PvE content however.

Additionally, i have to completely disagree that raid design is bad. A big portion of raiding is being a teamplayer in team content. That means acknowledging that your individuality doesn’t mean much and you’re going to have to sacrifice something to make gains.

And with family life and commitment outside of games 90% of my guild won’t touch this, for said reasons. The whole kitten game is based on pugging LFG or joining randoms in maps to do events, why the kitten would you break with expectations so abruptly? And then again, the encounters are not hard enough to actually make that claim valid: raids can and I would even say should be pugged by many.

They break up with expectations abruptly because this specific side content or call it niche is not meant for the majority of the playerbase.
It’s design intention was for players wanting the extra challenge. Difficult content that cannot be done pressing 11111 as long as people don’t realize and accept it they are walking the wrong path. 99% of the rest of the game is easy, easy puggable and can be done without effort and organisation. Give the 1% to players who love the challenge, love the team play and love the whole dedication you have to bring to raids.

Maybe in 2012. Fractals are now mini-raids.

Oh hey look it’s over-reaction monday in full effect!

It’s also like people are complaining about something they were told was going to happen since HoT’s beta. With raids being their endgame Anet shifted some design (read T4 fractals) to be the stepping stone for Raids.

Calling them all mini raids is quite honestly, silly. You have 3 other tiers to chose from if you cannot do T4.

While I don’t think they need a new recipe, I do think its strange to require mithril and elder wood both to craft the curio and then to also use the curio to craft the shard of ______ for whatever weapon you want. Its weird to double up on mithril/elder wood like that imo

My assumption is so that it maintains a high price for the legendaries but also a material that can easily be farmed and/or obtained naturally by playing the game.

Sure but the better question here is, why so much ?

The sheer amounts of elder/mithril is kinda absurd for farming… But just barely reasonable if you’re playing other modes and buying it.

To maintain the high cost so that it’s comparable to other legendary weapons. The amount of elder/mithril really isn’t that much of an issue when you look at what other legendary weapons require. At least this way, players have a way to directly farm the materials which are very very accessible.

Let me rephrase this so maybe it makes a bit more sense.

Can we not keep the cost high, while simultaneously not crushing and already used market by demanding an inane amount of one or two materials ?

I happen to believe they very well could have done just that, as is there’s several markets that are under utilized. Things like Ori (whose price is less than Plat), or Gossamar/Silk (granted these aren’t weapon specific materials), Gold/Silver (again not directly weapon specific but could be used as justification for some of the ornate designs).

This is of course all the while keeping in mind that they’ve moved away from the original series 2 Legendary journey. It just feels like a cheap solution when they could otherwise find ways to make things a retain cost while changing different materials to open up markets as opposed to saturating existing ones.

Sure. We could need to use a variety of materials. The situation we have now is only an issue because they released two legendaries at once with one being very popular. This was not an issue for the other four. This will likely not be an issue in a few more weeks once prices have settled.

Fair enough, we’ll have to wait and see if this is more a long term problem or not.

Can you stop pretending there was more to HoT content than grinding? And don’t come with the “Hurr Durr it’s MMO it must has grinden to b alyve!11!!!”… What this game needed was exciting content, a healthy flow of it, not locking players into farming metas.

TexZero.7910

The OP did not help his own case very much, but it is a very good case. As I see it, he’s not complaining about raid difficulty per se, but rather he is complaining about how hard it is to group up with 10 others who can actually run through the content. This is a very hard issue to tackle and Anet did recognize officially that it was an issue.

Saying it wasn’t meant to be pugged, if Anet did think like this at first, surely was a shot on their own feet: the whole kitten game is based on pugging LFG or joining randoms in maps to do events, why the kitten would you break with expectations so abruptly? And then again, the encounters are not hard enough to actually make that claim valid: raids can and I would even say should be pugged by many, just like CM Fractals. The idea of guilds and static groups is awesome, but chances are that you are playing GW2 and not other MMOs precisely because it didn’t require commitment at specific (and often massive if you think of games like WoW) time intervals; you pick it up, you play it, you leave it. And if you only come back 3 months later, new content should be learned (and it can, even with raids) in few days at most.

So, even if Anet tells everyone to git gud it doesn’t actually tackle the problem, as I still can’t raid without others who gut gud (and really, most of us didn’t even git gud enough to 3-man VG), and it’s not all that easy to find these people, let alone in weeks where I miss the reset. Finally, this should not be turned into its strawman extreme, I’m not saying there are no groups to be had for raiding at any given time, just that their numbers are increasingly low and will become even more diluted as number of raids increase and population leaves/spread out. It is a dying from its inception mode, unlike fractals that now also present interesting challenge, so I can just play CM everyday instead of raiding, lol.

I can agree proper group finding (in game guild finding/sorting/paramater basis) is an issue that needs desperately to be solved. However i bet that sorta load on their game is something the servers cannot handle without the proper back-end upgrade.

LFG eh, as long as its not automated its fine. Automated LFG should be treated like the redheaded stepchild it is and never remotely be considered for a solution. Community based team content should require an understand and effort from all parties so that a mutual goal can be achieved and automation removes the possibility of this as people feel no desire or attachment to stick around.

As Vinceman said, it does differ from the earlier fight as you are in need of aiming them at something. The spreading AoE does add some pressure into getting them down within a certain amount of time but we eased out of that initial panic after the first few cracks at the fight.

Im just sayin, the mechanics are additive in nature. First you’re show the look away and the orb. Then your show a room with 4 distinct corners to fight in. Then you have an almost identical arena with pylons that almost magically appear when the orbs do in the same distinct corners. It shouldn’t be rocket science to figure out what to do if you apply some very basic problem solving skills.

The solar bloom thing on the final boss is very easy:
1. Don’t hit/autoattack them at first
2. Go to the corner next to the generator you want to blow up with your bloom
3. Wait until the bloom has followed to your position as it will move alone without any help or hits at all
4. Take one step back (not a big one, just a little [tap s once or twice]) so that the orb is between you and the generator.
kitten the orb
6. Done

Problem most people have: They ignore 1. and hit like kittenoon as the orbs spawn and then rage/cry about that the orbs are not handling well and everything is bugged. ^^

Currently, these fractals already appear only once per tier: Aquatic, Mai Trin, Molten Boss, Nightmare, Shattered.

One can hope that comes sooner rather than later, alongside some meaningful mixups to instabilities.

Perhaps an attempt at seasonal instabilities, like instead of Toxic Trail we get Frozen Tundra for Wintersday (Chill instead of poison), or Lunacy (Periodic Friendly Fire) for Mad Kings Festival. Or if it was traditional WPts you could just walk over them, do exactly what you say, and then put those extra pearls towards a new back piece skin instead. Once again, point is not that it can’t be done or the difficulty, but that its faster just to walk over the WPts and doesn’t cost any currency that you could ultimately put towards other items instead while in previous episodes it was completely free.

Untrue it cost currency to use the waypoints every time you desire. This is quire literally a 1 time optional investment, that is account wide.

You want a waypoint ? Pay the pearls and have for every character, even future ones for the one time low cost of 10 pearls. Not only that, you never have to use the pearls again for anything else other than your precious skins which by the way, i have no idea what your complaint is considering you’re going to need 250 (for 1). If in your mind its not sane to purchase these waypoints once for 40 pearls then you need to be taught cost analysis because someone failed you.

Thinking about this, i’m not against having to pay for access, but my main concern with this, is how do u link wp’s to your friends/guildies etc to join u at particular part of the map for event or w/ever, when everyone needs to have these unlocked individually. I’m sure these wp’s will only be visible and accessible to you, the owner of the wp.

To me, big part of gw2 experience is being able to quickly link a wp to ppl in the world and individual maps to get to the events, guild missions etc. How’s this gonna work and improve the community experience that are meant to work together in many cases?

You can link the shrine, It’s not hard.

some of you may not notice that you can unlock more wp….just have to buy it. I have no idea who come up with the idea but its not player friendly at all

How isn’t it player friendly?

1) it only takes 40 orrian pearls. You can get those in a day or two of playing. If you buy the orrian pearl node you get 9 with each daily harvest.
2) after unlock you can bring any alt to that map and have access. You no longer have to run to each one with each char.

You know what takes less time than gathering 40 orrin pearls? Walking over the freakin way points. To me the new system feels like you went to a restaurant to buy a sandwich. You then go the next day to buy the sandwich and they raised the price. Is the sandwich still affordable? Of coarse. However, that is not why people will be upset about the increased prices. What you could traditionally get for free by walking over it, you now have to buy. If they want to add a way for alts to unlock way points, then they should add it as a purchase in addition to traditional way points, but most definitely not to replace it.

You know what you could try? You could collect Orrian Pearls on your way to those waypoints, unlock it once you get there and then have it unlocked for all your alts so they can just leap to those maps without having to run to them.

By the way, if you get the Home Instance Orrian Pearl node and then go and collect it you’ll get 9 Pearls right then. Those 40 Pearls will be paid off fast enough the 270 Pearls a month node.

You know whats even faster than that ?

Playing the map. You dont even have to buy the node….Literally grab yourself a harvesting sickle and go complete the story once you land in the map. Doing so will have you completing each heart this means you get 5 chance to buy pearls for karma. As well as jumping into the reliquary for another shot to get upto 51 pearls. More than enough to buy each shrine. That’s before even touching the (20 ? Not entirely sure on the exact number) you get just for finishing the story.

Also, just going to point out the ongoing comical nature of these forums. It’s hilarious to read the comments from people claiming to raid who cannot do this fractal, its even more comical to read the comments from people who wanted 5 person challenging content….Now that they have it they complain.

That doesn’t mean a fractal should feel like a raid. In all seriousness, this new fractal could very well qualify as a 5 man team raid due to its length and the amount of mechanics involved. Also, one misplay from one player, just like raids, can cause the entire team to fail. I definitely enjoyed it but the the reward at the end is not worth it at all.

Wait….

Let me get this straight, you want 5 man challenging content that is the stepping stones for raiding to NOT feel like a raid ?

I don’t even anymore.

And yes one person can cause a wipe, but it only takes 3 people to remove the problem. Either they learn or they don’t in which case you can remove them.

As for length, are we deluding ourselves here ? I did the entire thing yesterday in ~23 minutes which included 1 wipe at Arkk.

I said that this fractal could very much qualify as a 5 man team raid. I understand fractals being a stepping stone to raids but this one is pretty much up there at that level.

I’m glad you can finish this fractal in ~23 minutes. Unfortunately, I can finish many of the raids much quicker than that and the rewards are much better too :/

Yeah, you can finish one boss in that time. I’d love to see you finish the entire wing in that time. It’s a great false analogy you’re trying to set up though.

Absolutely dislike the new fractal.

Fractals especially T4 are designed to be the stepping stones for you to get ready to raid.
So lets not dumb this down any further.

I definitely enjoyed it but the the reward at the end is not worth it at all.

can we have some waypoints pls?

Its a tiny map and u can unlock an additonal 4 waypoints for a total of 5. Thats more than enough, although why they didnt just use the normal system which works just fi e, is beyond me

The new system is infinitely better considering

1) these maps are irrelevant for completion purposes
2) it rewards you for playing on the map and offers a moderate goal to work towards
3) it does not cost currency to utilize past the initial investment

These 3 things alone make the new system better. Additionally it promotes a chance for them to change how movement works for the upcoming expansion. You can have much larger maps with a mixture of waypoints and shrine (exploration based) checkpoints. A win win for explorers who are always looking for something neat and average players who just want to get from A to Z fast.

I don’t have a problem with that. If people cannot/will not learn from failure they should probably go down a tier and learn in a safer spot.

We’re talking about t1 here though…

Again i stand by my words.

If people cannot/will not learn mechanics, they should go down a tier. This still applies for T1 as it seems 99% of the problems are people thinking they can just afk and press 1. If that’s what you want to do drop down to open world bosses.

Wait wait…

you mean Legendary items shouldn’t require effort ?

I’m afraid you’re gonna find that opinion in the minority.

If you read it all I said in the post I understand including hard stuff cause it’s legendary

….and yet came to complain for it to get changed to something as trivial as Karka Queen.

Expansion 2 ! Class Preview and BETA TEST!

Except at least 40% of the hype is already ruined by the leaks.

Well, we know we are going to Elona and we roughly know what the new elite disciplines are (though not all of them).

We dunno when is the expansion going to hit (probably Nov 2017).
What is the new class (I am guessing it will be Elona themely based, medium armor with high HP pool).
We probably get to test the new class and elite lines (similar to last expansion).
Probably new

There is much to be covered. I am excited

99% sure there wont be any new classes tho

Last expansion did have a new class and GW1 had a new class every expansion. It is safe to say it is more likely than not. In any case, will know next Tuesday.

It’s not safe to say, because Anet has quite literally said, Rev is the last new profession. All future advancement will be done via elite specs.

After an hour of throwing rocks in a little room and using every pet I have (which is all), my ranger cannot break-bar the Eye of Janthir (Story quest). I’m stuck in a room not getting hurt nor hurting the boss. No clues..no hints, just rocks. I’m going to try one more time, and then the story line ends for me…too frustrating for a solo ranger. The breakbar on the Eye is impossible.

I was liking it up until that point…..

It has nothing to do with the class you’re playing.

Pick up a rock, have the EoJ go near the Keepers. Toss Rock at EoJ.

After giving this so more thought, if crafting is not on the table (possible)

Then why not allow us to have mox memorize them and have him be an archive of history (since he’s in our home instance after completing an episode as well).

Just another option.
