As stupid as it sounds, AFAIK WoW is still the only MMO to date that has successfully implemented mass transportation without loading screens. Take the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Thunder’s Bluff and enjoy. You can cram 100 people in there and still no one is warping or glitching one bit. And you can jump off any time you like, just make sure you’ve got your flying mount or parachute ready.

And it looks like something that was made in 1999. You cannot compare such an old game with ho-hum gfx to gw2.

Yes because GW2 looks like it was made in 2012, right? With DX9 and all the bells and whistles?

Anyhow, it has absolutely nothing to do with graphics and everything to do with server-client communication and architechture.

One possible route is to buy stackable items from the TP that sell for vendor + 1c. For example, Crests of the Shaman are available in bulk at 1s99c, so you can buy a stack for 497s 50c and sell for 495s, i.e. this allows you to store nearly 5g for a fee of 2s50, about the cost of waypointing halfway across Tyria. Ideal? no, but it will work.

Why in earth would you do that, when you can just place a buy order for Twilight for let’s say 10 silver a piece? Your money will be stored there forever with no cost.

That said, Longbow is awesome against large trash-packs.

Time Attack Modes for Jumping Puzzles

Tom Gore.4035

Personally, JPs are my favourite part of the game. I’d love to see more JPs implemented, but additionally, I’d like the existing ones to get a Time Attack Mode added.

In practice, you would have an interactable object (NPC, button, w/e) at the beginning of the puzzle. When you interact with it, you switch into a Time Attack Mode. A clock starts running and you then try to finish the puzzle as fast as you can. Your abilities are all disabled, all buffs removed (perhaps having some puzzle-specific abilities instead) and you will have a special debuff that doesn’t allow you to gain any buffs or use any portals, etc. So it’s just run and jump from there on. If you finish it within a certain time limit (or several tiers of), you receive extra rewards from the chest at the end.

In addition, there could be a plaque at the end, showing the name of the character who currently holds the record for that particular JP.

This could be implemented one by one or a couple JPs at a time. Would be super fun for all the JP lovers out there

I am fine. I feel myself better than in other games like Aion. BTW this game requires better processors, not video cards. So i always play on max settings. You can try max settings too, no impact at all.

With 100 people around servers lag sometimes, but my fps is good.

Sorry man, but you’re full of kitten. With 100 people on the screen and everything maxxed you’re not running anywhere near 60 fps with your setup. Not. A. Chance.

I never declared something like this. Why do you think it is a.net fault? Lets go cry on intel forums OMG YOUR PROCESSORS ARE SO SLOW, I HAVE 10 FPS WHEN 1000 PEOPLE AROUND!!!11

You said your FPS is good with 100 ppl on the screen.

Granted, I have no idea what you think is a “good” FPS, but industry standard is usually to aim at your monitor’s refresh rate, which is 60 FPS in most cases.

I would wager your “good” FPS with 100 ppl on the screen would be below 30 FPS which by any standard should not be “good”.

But if you’re happy with it, all the power to you.

lolwhat? Refresh Rate =/= FPS not in any case.

My fps is comfortable in 99.9% of my gameplay. And once again: i feel myself much better than in other games.

And again. Why do you think it is arena.net fault? You are 100% sure this game can give you more FPS, but theirs programmers are just bad. You have 100% professional opinion that arena.net is incompetent, right?

If not, what are you asking for? Magic?

I didn’t imply FPS = Refresh rate. Where did you get that? All I said that it’s become an industry standard to aim to maintain 60 FPS in a game, because anything above that will lose some of it’s flashiness because the monitor cannot draw it fast enough (I know higher FPS still affects your input responsiveness, but that’s another story).

You still didn’t say what you consider as a comfortable frame rate? 60? 40? 20?

It is Arenanet’s fault because games that have as much stuff on the screen and look better still run faster than GW2. They did make a lot of improvements at beta and right after launch and it got better, but then they just stopped. My money is that they fired or lost their optimization guru. There have been zero client optimizations for about 10 months now. You really think the client is now 100% optimized and there’s nothing to do, even if I tell you that GW2 is not utilizing nearly all the power in my GTX 670 in WvW, because my oh-so-crappy 3770k running at 4.2Ghz per core is running at 100%?

Why do you defend these guys? You don’t think they should hire (back) some client programmers and work on optimizing their software further and start working on a DX11 mode for the client? They can afford FOUR content teams to chug out bi-weekly content patches, but can’t afford ONE team to work on making the client better, adding features, etc.?

You’re absolutely right, it’s a perspective thing. I think the biggest problem is that people set their in-game goals too high compared to the time and effort they’re willing to put into the game.

In most cases it’s a simple matter of “I want it all” combined with “Too lazy to do anything” that creates the whiny posts on the forum that something is “too hard to get”.

By the end-game of a standard MMO, you’re largely playing for the sole purpose of punishment avoidance; “if I don’t play, I won’t earn my dailies, I’ll fall behind in the gold inflation; I havn’t done my raid this week!”.

Well this is nice and all, but your analogy sucks.

A better analogy would be that if you don’t play, you will actually lose progress, which you really don’t do. You just don’t gain any.

In your analogy, most MMOs never take the treat away. Sure, they might make the task harder and/or take longer, but the treat will always be there. Why?

Because there is no punishment in MMOs. Not anymore. There used to be a penalty for failing, for dying. But today there is none. Whatever you do, however you do it, will slowly and steadily take you closer to that treat. There are no setbacks.

And why is that? Because the MMO players do not want setbacks. They want rewards. They want to work towards the treat at their own pace and not worry about never reaching it.

And it works.

In fact, a much better analogy to modern MMOs is a treadmill that accelerates a number display next to it. Whether you tread fast or slow, the number will keep increasing, at the pace you choose to put the effort in it. But the number will never decrease. Even if you don’t run in the treadmill for a year, it will stay the same and you can get back on and get running again.

I don’t think anyone on this thread mention it ‘yet’ but its always funny when you ask what kind of end game gw2 has and some1 answers “legendary weapons” lmao. Crafting a skin is end game, you know the game has none when end game is supposed to be crafting a weapon.

Maybe because recently people realised that crafting a legendary weapons isn’t a worthy “end-game” so they don’t mention it anymore.

Ok could you then please tell what the hell is a “worthy end-game”, when we are talking about a video game where people are supposed to waste their free time?

In your case, I assume the graphs would show near 100% usage for 2-4 cores of your CPU and less than 60% usage for your GPU.

He wrote it is a SIX (6) CORE! And it is a AMD FX 6120. I assume this CPU is running at 3,6 Ghz. This is surely NO bottleneck!
The performance of GW2 is just bad. I have the same… playin all games on ULTRA except GW2. I need to set it on medium to maintain 60 fps.

Yes I read exactly what he wrote. Too bad GW2 is not utilizing 6 cores. Hell, it is struggling to use 4. AMD has lousy performance per core, you can check benchmarks for this CPU and see how it fares against i5’s which have only 4 cores.

Only in well threaded applications does this CPU come close to Intel CPUs. I’m pretty sure in the OP’s case the GPU is running at barely 50% load.

Living story Achievements take too much time

in Living World

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

I do get the point. The point is you feel you’re entitled to get the achievement without a) spending some time in the game or b) doing anything that requires any skill whatsoever.

Both metas can be achieved with absolutely zero skill (it will take some time) or very minimal time (takes some skill).

I’m sorry that you cannot get an achievement (look that up in the dictionary?) without any effort or time invested.

Not, you don’t get the point. It’s not like we don’t want to invest the time or we are noobs who can’t achieve something hard. The only problem is that these minigames are temporary. I would do it one day… If I were bored or something… but you just have to do it now! That is the problem and the only one problem. Noone cares about how much time it takes or how much skilled you must be.

Obviously you do care.

Let me rephrase. You do not need to get those achievements. No one is putting a gun to your head and say you need them to enjoy GW2. You’re imposing this problem on yourself, but are unwilling to solve that problem by putting in the effort required.

It’s like you have an optional course with an exam coming in two weeks. You decide you want to pass that optional course, but don’t want to spend time reading for it, because hey, it’s summer and all.

Don’t want to invest the time now? Fine, don’t do it. You just don’t get that achievement. No big deal.

Do I also have to mention that they also introduced an activity which has achievements (quite a bunch of them, in fact) that don’t have a time limit?

Kernel-Power hard crash while GW2'ing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

It’s a hardware or a driver problem. No software (such as GW2) that does not directly access the kernel can crash your computer.

Here’s your to-do list:

1. Update all your drivers, including graphics card, motherboard chipset, networking and sound card/chip drivers.

2. Install a temperature monitoring software and turn on logging.

3. Play.

If/when the computer crashes, check the logs. If your CPU was running hotter than 70 celcius or your GPU hotter than 90 celsius at the time of the crash, you most likely have an overheating problem. To solve that, install more/better coolers on the case and/or the CPU.

If the temperatures stay below the above thresholds at all times, it’s more likely that you have a hardware problem. It could be as simple as an inadequate and/or low quality power supply, or as difficult to track as a broken mainboard.

Hope you find the problem.
