True. At least the normal dynamic events have an impact on the world, even if it is only temporary. These mass invasions do nothing, absolutely jack. These powerful villains just stand there and wait to be butchered, only engaging enemies in their nearest vicinity. They don’t even contest waypoints!

It’s like their only function is to be farmed by the player characters…

Considering what we know about the nature of magic and the fact that we sort of know the Pale Tree is rooted in that magical circuit, would it be a logical assumption the Pale Tree is to gain a significant amount of nourishment or power for each Elder Dragon that is removed?

Or perhaps the Dragons as magic-eating entities are a very direct threat to the Pale Tree’s existence. Most of the other entities could survive without magic, but the Pale Tree and the Sylvari could not.

Tom Gore.4035

Well the truth unfortunately is you will get maybe 10-15 seconds of your middle-sized group fun before the blue icon and the zerg rolls in and spoils it.

And to be honest, fighting the events even in smaller groups hardly is very challenging or fun, at least in my opinion.

Scarlet’s playhouse was pretty fun, though. As was the Queen’s Gauntlet. So in that sense the last two patches haven’t been entire zergfests.

Getting guilds to DEFEND claims.

in WvW

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

In general, defending is either boring (when nobody comes) or impossible (when the zerg comes). In either case, it’s not very rewarding. The whole siege system is just broken on a level it would need a complete overhaul to fix.

I once wrote a lenghty post about how to make WvW look closer to real siege warfare than the zerging it’s currently, but I think the devs don’t want WvW to be about strategy, because that would take the “I’ll just go cap a couple towers before the next invasion starts” players out of it.

Here’s a link to the post, in case you’re interested:

The upside this is that us who buy gems with money (yeah, I have a full-time job) will have it easier to get those fixed-price items. Such as T3 armor and Icy Runestones.

Not converting gems to gold yet, but if the rate keeps climbing like this it’s only a matter of time…

I have a feeling that anyone pricing the Winter skins at 150g is going to be in for a BIG disappointment. If the skins were selling for only 15 gold before the update, what makes them think that demand will suddenly increase now that they’ve become permanent additions to the weapon vendors?

Perhaps the fact it takes on average about 40 RL dollars to get one single ticket. How many tickets were these skins again?

But what do you really do to WvW? I’m all for adding stuff to WvW but what would make it better that they could add?

Oh I don’t know. Maybe redo two of the borderlands so we wouldn’t have 3 carbon copy maps? That would be a nice start.

Then they could change the whole kitten sieging so you couldn’t flip a tower in 2 minutes and a keep in 5. You know, to actually have some room for strategy and more incentive of upgrading the facilities.

The stun uptime since the Skull Crack and Burst Mastery buffs is maybe a little too much for such a strong hard CC. If you fail it, you can do it 7 seconds later, you don’t lose the adrenaline, there’s not much risk for such a strong reward.
Even widely percieved weak classes can have possibly unbalanced mechanics, but that’s not something that justifies having them.

I’m not sure if Healling Signet got overbuffed just yet.

And if it does hit, you regain all adrenaline in the 100b burst and weapon swap

New Dungeon System = Inflation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

yes, and there has to be a lot of 30 min or less dungeon paths out there, which means someone who plays 10 hours a day will make at least 20-40 gold a day.

Making gold isn’t a bad thing, it’s the fact 20-40 (actual gold) will enter the game, not from item values like Exotics or Powerful Blood, but actual coin, that creates inflation.

As I said, clueless.

CoF run at the moment takes 10 minutes or less for a skilled group and yields around 1G. It can be repeated indefinitely. Thus in 10 hours one could make 60 gold by just running CoF path 1.

This new change will make it slower to gain gold from dungeons, not faster.

Exactly. The JPs could be finished just as they are now, but if you wanted, you could up the challenge for yourself.

But yeah I can foresee a bazillion cries of “DIZ IZ TOO HARDZ!” if there is any incentive of doing the Time Attack Mode, because it seems people playing MMOs believe they should be entitled to every reward in the game even if they were plain bad at playing them.

Could be viable at least in certain JPs. Many of them do have a “boss” (a veteran, though) at the end already. Maybe activating the time trial would upgrade it to a champion for a certain time. You would not only have to finish the puzzle in time, but also kill the champ in the timeframe. Awesome for group runs.

Risen in Orr have been gradually changed to look more decayed, and they at least seem to be less frequent.

I wouldn’t call that a big change. Actually I think the statues are bigger. Compare to what Cataclysm did to the WoW vanilla zones and you can see what I mean with big changes. It took them a whole expansion to do it, though.

I’m not saying it can’t be done. Just saying it probably won’t happen unless in a big expansion, and even then I’d probably rather see new zones, as there isn’t really anything inherently wrong with the current ones.

  • Guild Missions

6 badges/week, done in a couple hours

  • Living Story

Can be finished on release day in couple hours

  • WvW

ZvZ content, skill lag, need to grindout 300 levels for skills

  • PvP (tournament & battleground style)

Trash, no reward outside of cosmetics

  • World exploration

Finished in a week

  • Achievements, crafting, collections

all my alts have crafting maxed
all minis is only couple of gold
AP relies heavily on dailies

  • Create a legendary weapon

Just waiting on gold for precursor or the new precursor questchain

other than that, there’s nothing to do.

Of course the centaurs are unorganized and in disarray at the moment, but as mentioned in the interview, another leader can raise up and organize them. The war is far from over.

No kitten, Sherlock? I would imagine Harathi Hinterlands filled with nothing but friendly Seraph and ambient creatures would be one kitten boring zone.

My response was directed to Rainbow whom mentioned it was not over. Unless you have something to contribute on the topic besides being a smart-kitten , yours is uncalled for.

My point is that no matter how you want to bend it from a story point of view, “wars” in MMOs will never end, because it would not make sense game-wise. Massive zone-wide changes would take too much resources and so far only WoW has done it, and even that was only for vanilla zones.

This would give the lazy people still their chance of skipping the puzzle with a mesmer portal, while giving the hardcore people something to brag about when they choose a gambit instead of a handicap. Everybody wins.

Super excellent additions to the suggestion. It oozes with possibilities and would give the JPs so much more replayability. I would still remove the ability to use portals altogether. Even with the checkpoints they could skip several jumps by having a bunch of mesmers with their portals helping them, making the leaderboard pointless.

Yes, in Fractals you can change a number to increase the difficulty of the Fractals. Gambits are completely different, however, in that you activate a specific condition. For example, completing the challenge without being able to dodge.

Son of a… You got my interest there

Now do the same for all (eventually) the jumping puzzles out there! Griffonrook run is a good start, insanely difficult with the bomb, but doable. Would hope that the steel chest would hold something worthwhile, though

Back to the topic, I’d watch it, even if it was as bad as the D&D movie. Let’s just hope Trehaerne doesn’t come to steal the spotlight and tell everyone to go to Chlore Island.

The unofficial RP servers are Tarnished Coast (US) and Piken Square (EU). This site is the “hub” for roleplaying guilds / players on those servers:

Unfortunately GW2 is pretty poor in terms of roleplaying tools available, but I would think there will be more, bit by bit, over time.

Good point. It seems they are indeed underutilized. Could be a good investment to stock up some now if/when they will get new uses…

On the other hand, it’s a time-gated item, so if the demand was higher than supply the price would be insanely high.

The solution could be a limited-time use for them. To flush the market.
