I would sell my firstborn for this armor piece:
http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/9451224BG24.png

It’s too good of an armor set that most people’s eye would explode, hence why anet has yet to release it.

I honestly don’t understand their train of thought here. They want NPC’s to be unique so they give them armor and hairstyles players can’t have. Who plays this game to look at NPC’s!? Has anyone ever said, “Ohh, the NPC’s are so unique in this game! It’s great!”

Granted, we got Kasmeer’s and Braham’s armors (and hairstyle) as gemstore additions. Maybe someday they will squeeze some money out of us by adding the Anise set as well.

With all the resources, GW1 armor styles to draw on and epic concept art, THIS is what they came up with? The light armor for my sylvari looks just … ugh. Like a bad reskin of the Vigil armor.

And what bothers me the most? It says in the preview that these armors were made in the style of famous Luxon and Kurzick armourers. That’s an insult to both factions! They look nothing like those famous sets!

It would be nice if the new colors and hairstyles were available in character creation, but I didn’t expect them to be, since I’ve learned that the business motif nowadays is to put all cosmetic options in the gemstore.

And yes I would rather pay a sub fee every month if it means I’d have all the gemstore stuff added to the game for free. I like my nicknacks but at the current gold to gem ratio I will not buy them.

People with your mindset are scary. They seem to be actually happy that ANet is adding functions in the gemstore which would belong in-game as free updates. Is it like, ANet made the game, so we must be eternally grateful?

Traveller.7496

I’ve lost my faith for ANet to make GW2 a good story that compares to Prophecies. We’ve had a year and we’ve had no resemblance of great storytelling. The main storyline has some good bits and pieces and the living story is not only lackluster and forgettable but also moves at a snail’s pace. The devs keep on promising that “it will get better” and “you will learn more later” but it’s just words. I don’t care anymore.

I’m so disappointed that they keep on pushing characters we don’t want or care about when there’s a whole world of lore waiting to be explored, new zones to add and Dragons to fight.

I want maguuma jungle, charr homelands, crystal desert, far shiverpeaks, woodland cascades, Ring of fire, scavenger’s causeway … and eventually Cantha and Elona. It looks like I will never get these areas in GW2 when the updates are temporary and built around grinding achievement points.

Sorry this turned out to be a rant, but I’ve ran out of constructive criticism to give. GW2 is not the game I waited for so anxiously for so many years. And that’s what’s the most painful of all, it has/had so much potential, but it’s wasted.

I just find it very ironic that for once we can actually share our concerns with a developer, get honest answers and insight and they decide it’s “jeopardizing the company”, although I do realize Josh is in a tough situation here.

I wouldn’t count content you do once and then drop forever as “endgame”, like in your case Liadri or zone clear on SAB Tribulation mode. I guess you can count doing all the possible achievements, if you want. I agree on WvW, although I don’t think OP mentioned it.

You don’t have to go far to look for “endgame” in a GW franchise. GW1 had Alliance battles, GvG, Underworld, Fissure … something for every type. Something you can do with friends and eventually get better & get better rewards. GW2 definition of endgame (PvE side) is mostly champion farming and world boss event race. Fractals, I guess?

And many people are satisfied – personally I’d like something a bit more ambitious, like those God realms.

I don’t mind a bigger storyline the unfolds over time, but there has to be foreshadowing. At the moment it just feels like that ANet is writing the story as they go along.

Sure you can say now that Scarlet was behind all of it, but we had no clues as to her existence before she showed up. It’s not enough that you expand her background now. There has be hints that there exists this character and you need to leave us clues to make the connection beforehand.

You get what I’m saying? We don’t have foreshadowing that it was specifically her. It could’ve been revealed that the Kingpin of Quaggan under the name Scarlet was the mastermind behind the attacks and it would’ve been just as “planned”.

I dunno, maybe I’m not explaining myself very clearly.

I still feel like the difficulty and especially length ramps up way too much in world 2. Many of my friends who loved SAB world 1 say that they simply aren’t interested in World 2 with how it’s like right now. It’s nice if you make adjustments in the future for W3, but I feel like plenty of people will simply stop playing at World 2 (and thus can’t participate on any further content?)

I mean, I went through it on infantile mode and it still seemed very tedious. I have tried on normal a few times, but it just doesn’t hook me to play like World 1 did.

Although one thing I gotta say is that the music is A+. I don’t know if the artists do chiptunes regularly but these tunes were excellent. I could hear echoes from lot of different games, and the style of certain songs reminded me of different sources. With the ice level I was getting Ninja Gaiden vibes and somewhere I heard Snake Rattle’n’roll in there.

Exactly. And being a nice&fun platform game without those “issues” was the strengh of SAB.
There is no problem with players like you who like dieing 100 times to master a single jump, but we would expect normal mode to satisfy those who don’t, and tribulation mode to satisfy you.

Btw, I would probably have tried tribulation and accepted to die 1000 times in there, but only after having fun jumping everywhere in normal mode. Facing this difficulty in normal mode really fells bad.

I’d counter that we could expect juvenile mode to satisfy those who don’t. I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know if it helps significantly, but I do think that people shouldn’t complain about difficulty if there is an easier difficulty option available to them.

People wanting normal mode to be easier, but not doing the easy mode, is crazy. If juvenile mode is not making it easy enough, then perhaps that is the mode that should be changed.

But the main point of my post was, or was supposed to be, that I can see both points of view. Neither is incorrect. But I’d like Josh to gather points of view from places other than the forum before he decides to start hacking away at his work of art.

The trouble is even World 2 infantile mode is way, waaaay harder than World 1. If you check the posts made by Josh he admits it needs adjustment.

Maybe the enemies could be nerfed for infantile somehow, or even removed altogether, so that infantile mode could really be just about happy jumping like (most) of World 1 was.

I’m not satisfied with the overall difficulty of World 2, but I am happy that the devs (or dev in this case) are actually participating in a open discussion about it and willing to make changes instead of going “it’s great, go play World 1 if you don’t like it”.

Another change I approve is that you guys should restore the dig spots as they were and raise the prices of stuff to compensate.

I think that SAB world 2- onwards is definately harder for a casual jumper than world 1. And before you say, of course it is! No NES game had a difficulty curve THAT high. Even Battletoads waited until level 3 (Turbo Tunnel) before ramping up the difficulty.

I actually had a tough time doing world 2 even with infantile mode with all the soldiers attacking me. Maybe it’s a learn to play – issue, but for me, it wasn’t as fun as World 1, where enemies weren’t as hard and the main focus was jumping around and finding new paths. I see Josh has commented on the length already too. But for me it simply wasn’t as fun as SAB world 1, for these reasons (and I can’t lie, also because they nerfed the dig spots).

The cost of making an ascended weapon is a one thing, but you also have to count the cost to leveling your crafting to 500 by making exotics just to salvage them in hopes for new materials. I guess it’s good if you have plenty of ectos and T6 materials stored up, I’m hesitant to spend mine on for pretty much nothing.

But as you said, we have to wait and see if they actually deliver. This is a comparison on what they have done so far. For me personally it’s not even an argument that GW1 content updates were more substantial, even if the OP is leaving some GW2 stuff out.

I’m often quite negative on the forums but it’s mostly because I wanted this game to be as good as GW1 and in my mind it hasn’t delivered and the direction it’s taking is not as it should. The classical list:

- GvG

- Guild Halls

- Elite Dungeons (UW, FoW, DoA, Deep, Urgoz)

- Templates

- Elite skills being the centerpiece of your build, not the “I’ll take the least terrible one” skill you just HAVE to take

- The build system

- Being rewarded for difficult content more than for mindless farming

- More and better armors

- Dyeable weapons

I was gonna post a list but this guy took my thoughts out of my head, so I’ll just quote it. My emphasis on the first three.

For a game called “Guild Wars 2” the guild system sucks. No guild halls, guild battles, less than mediocre guild system for guild leaders.

I already made another topic about it, but here are my reactions again:

They constantly talk about “changing the world”. Yet nothing about the living story has changed anything. Yeah there are some new NPC’s but nothing about the core game has changed since launch. Either stop the living story mess mediocrity or go further with it, really change the world instead of just say that you have. Destroy cities, kill important NPC’s, have huge events that leave a mark. For all the talk ANet have put out about the LS CHANGING THE WORLD they have nothing to show for it. I for one am getting really frustrated about the direction the game is taking and the fact that what ANet says is completely different compared to what they actually do.

“What I personally want to see is a year later, after 25 of these releases, the world feels like a completely different world. That’s the level of change I want to see and that is what we are doing now.”

So far it isn’t. I guess we can see a year later if it’s worked at all.

On adding new zones: the ones they’ve added via living story have been tiny. Southsun is just a big karka hole. Labyrinthine cliffs? That’s nothing. (and it’s not even there anymore. Did it vanish somewhere?) Are ever they going to add bigger zones such as the maps we had with launch via Living story, complete with hearts, dungeons, events and new mechanics?

“… look at clockwork chaos as an example, players are banding together. I think you really do get a sense that the world is changing all the time.”

How is it changing? We get an “invasion” where mobs just stand around. Everyone else in the zone goes about in their normal business as nothing strange is going on. After you stop the invasion, everything is the same. EVEN IF YOU FAIL EVERYTHING IS THE SAME. Where’s the change?

Ohh, I gotta stop reading the spindoctor thesis of ANet marketing gurus and executives before I develop an ulcer.

You can find the article here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/

So, yeah. He’s again talking about “world-changing events” and how the Living story changes the world constantly. Where are these world-changing events? I wouldn’t categorize LS updates as “major releases” either.

I find this bit ironic:

We had railed against traditional MMO mechanics like quest chains that force the world to be static and unchanging, and instead had built a world full of dynamic events where players working together can actually change the state of the world.

Where are these events that actually change the state of the world? Centaurs capturing a camp which then gets captured back 20 minutes later?

And before you say “they’re coming”, remember that this was a retrospective post about the 1st year of Guild Wars 2. Not a look into the future.

Also lol @ the “more votes cast than in the 2012 Czech presidential election”. Could they vote as many times as they wanted?

But I have to wonder, why none of this is told to us in-game? Scarlet could actually be an interesting character if you’d constructed her backstory using all you have written in that short story via dialogue and in-game text. This is the kind of exposition we need for the storyline, if we are meant to enjoy it.

As far as I know, the Living Story is a side story to the Personal one. It wouldn’t make sense for the players who haven’t completed the story to be missing out. So any mention of the Pact would be avoided.

It’s another fine example on painting yourself in the corner with the personal story. Because new players will do it, you can never kill or even remove characters featured in it (ones that survive it, that is). Ultimately, it restricts the storytelling heavily.

I’m not saying I want Trahearne back, but it’s like the personal story never happened at all. I’m the 2nd in command of the largest military organization of Tyria and I’m treated like an errand boy.

Invasion mobs are part of movement Occupy Tyria! They gather and protest!

You know what? You’re absolutely right. I’m tired of doing what some queen or “leader” tells me mindlessly like a drone. Those “invaders” aren’t hurting anyone, they just stand there. Only one attacking anyone is Scarlet, and even she says Aetherblades work for her because “they like living”, implying she has some kind of leverage over thousands of them – which really, really pushes my suspension of disbelief – unless she has like some kind of exploding collar on each one.

So rather than fighting them we should work together to remove Scarlet. I’m tired of being a murderer of hundreds of Aetherblades (not to mention thousands of hapless creatures, bandits and centaurs I’ve killed during my quest for world peace) and I hereby refuse to hurt any more “invaders” who just stand around in zones hurting no one. ANet, keep your invasion!

I didn’t say you said anything about the plotlines being tied up, but I do have a memory of one of you reds saying something about “plots starting to come together with this update”, but I can’t find the exact quote now.

I understand that the plot needs to develop slowly, but … I just feel it’s too slow and vague at the moment. We need foreshadowing, we need cliffhangers. At the end, have a cutscene where Scarlet meets this figure in shadows reporting in, saying she’s sorry for her failure and we instantly see a new facet of her persona. (I mean, she can’t be the main villain for the storyline, eh?)

I’m disappointed in the fact that she was clearly an afterthought. It would’ve been awesome if there would’ve been foreshadowing about a mysterious Sylvari who would beat the technical geniuses in Rata Sum, maybe have the NPC’s talk about it or mention her in a quest. But she just is dropped from nowhere, and like someone mentioned, it’s stupid that the NPC’s clearly know who she is.

Although I’m not sure if Rox and Braham still remember me. Or anyone else, for that matter. No one ever mentions me when battle plans are made, only when they need someone to mop up or kill 500 mobs they give me a shout. I feel like a sidekick in my own story.
