It’s not a good idea to entirely focus on one activity, trying to max it before doing the next. Instead, it’s better to incorporate these things into your playing while doing the rest of the content, spreading it out over the course of the month. Beat a few pinatas as you pass while running around a city, scarf down a couple pieces of candy as you go, take a quick trip out into the zones and join a group for a few minutes at a time chasing holograms.
If you focus entirely on the task at one time, it’ll feel incredibly grindy, and not fun at all. If you instead focus on playing the game, and do a few at a time during several play sessions, you’ll barely notice it.
Basically: treat it as a monthly that you accomplish over the whole celebration instead of focusing on getting it within the first week. There’s a good deal more content incoming that may even make it easier than trying to grind it out now (that’s what happened at Halloween, which had incredibly similar achievements, for those that weren’t there).
Does hitting spacebar to do the confirm work? It works for overflow, I know that.
Let’s be really clear, no one is being forced to do anything.
Want the shiney? Accept to do what it takes to get the shiney.
Don’t wanna do that? Don’t expect to get the shiney.
Don’t like what you gotta do? Don’t do it. Go ahead and even complain about it.But don’t make up some kitten that you’re being forced to do it.
So, unless that’s a dev with a loaded gun standing behind you and giving you no alternative but to sit there an press buttons, wake up and accept it’s your choice to play however it is you chose to.
Sure, but what have the players who have not wished to waste their money on RNG boxes got in the past few months. Just look at the settlers weapons we got at the end of the last living story. It really shows how much anet cares about those players. This has turned into a f2p model MMO.
Um, not sure what you’re getting at, but honestly the only things you’d really be missing out on was the Fused and Sclerite weapon skins. Even then that could possibly be at least somewhat countered with a lot of farming (Fused came from the BLCs, Southsun boxes dropped). Not a guarantee, but what else did we miss out on? Everything else came from in-game actions…two awesome backpieces, specifically. The Settler weapons feel like they were mostly for a different method to access gear (and a stat combination).
Just because you thought they should be unique skins doesn’t mean it’s horrible that they’re there. I didn’t miss out on anything except two sets of cosmetic gear. Oh well. Doesn’t stop me from playing.
The complaints thus far are absolutely mind boggling.
1.) Moa racing shouldn’t be part of the meta achievement.
Congratulations, it’s not! You only have to do 10/14 achievements, of which you have AN ENTIRE MONTH to do.
2.) The holo dragons in the lower zones breed competition and contempt.
It was like this during Halloween, Christmas and SAB. Same plan. But considering all the impatient people want to finish this in a day, it’s become a major issue. Once again, YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE MONTH. Let the crowds thin out and you’ll see the nodes sitting around doing nothing, like they have in every other event beforehand.
3.) RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG RNG
The biggest complaint I saw in Southsun was the fact that the crates off mobs didn’t drop enough. Now they drop off ANY WORLD MOB and now you have coffers being THROWN at you, in the hundreds and thousands, and you DON’T HAVE TO PAY A DIME. The RNG boxes have worked the same in EVERY OTHER HOLIDAY BEFOREHAND and if you’re a sucker enough to keep buying into them, then I have no hope for you as a human being. People are picking up hundreds IN A SINGLE DAY, and once again, THE EVENT LASTS FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH. The weapon skins DO NOT AFFECT YOU, in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, so have some WILLPOWER and DON’T BUY THEM.
By god, ever since that “other MMO” started handing everything to everyone by just logging in, everyone thinks that’s how it should be now. Man, I can’t wait for real life to smack the lot of you across the face.
People should have the ability to voice their opinions no matter how you feel about it Stark. This is a video game, not a government state where you should “just be happy with what you have and not complain about it”.
It does not matter if you agree or disagree, if people are complaining, reporting or complementing, they should have the ability to do all of those things freely and not be condemned for it because you personally are annoyed by it. You don’t have to read the titles of the threads you find offensive or annoying, so keep that in mind.
He’s voicing his opinion about you/everyone who’s complaining’s opinion. He should be able to complain about that freely and not be condemned because you are personally annoyed by it. You don’t have to read this thread if all you want is mindless complaining.
:P

I don’t believe it’s spoilery…I think it’s part of setting up the storyline.
The wiki release page (above) has been updated with the Timeline section. Lore-related information will be gathered here, whereas the Dragon Bash section will retain activity-related information.
Hopefully this will keep a running track of the storyline-related information in one place, pointing players towards what they need to see in order to gather the lore.
I still remember when they sold the weapons directly on the gemstore during winter event for like 500 gems each, I bought one because it doesn’t involve any RNG.
And if more people voted with their wallets that way we might not even be having this discussion.
I agree completely, however I wanted to double down on this point:
But considering all the impatient people want to finish this in a day, it’s become a major issue.
Seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head here. It’s become somewhat expected by players that they should be able to complete the new Living Story content in a single day. Now they’re given the equivalent of a Monthly (for a month-long celebration…weird, I know) and it’s suddenly a huge grind…only because they’re trying to complete it all as fast as possible, which means they need to focus on it…which makes it a grind.
Yes, there were/are bugs. They need to improve the holograms so they don’t die as fast (hint, go to the higher level zones, they didn’t die so fast there). But most of the complaints I’ve seen stem more towards the fact that people want to complete everything today, and get all the skins right now (seems like ArenaNet made a set people really want).
This coffer situation is probably the best version of the RNG boxes they’ve yet done. I’m actually approving of this setup if they really want to use them.
Edit: Also note, in addition to only needing to do 10 achievements to get the meta…5 of those are the storyline. You’ll get it if you actually play the game.
You don’t need to do Moa Racing, Dragon Ball, or even compete against other players to do the Holographic Minions.
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
Meet (as in press F and move along) some NPCs…
…and then complain there’s no story.
I see that happening a lot.
I usually waited around for about 10 seconds seeing if anyone was on their way. I was jumping up and down next to it when someone arrived and I knew another was incoming…people got the message: wait.
Why not have anything not activated colored in red? Still readable but obvious to everyone it isn’t available.
Once that content becomes available, how would you change it back to white?
You realize you only need 10/14 achievements? Fail less.
god forbid some people want to do all the achievements for completions sake,
not just for a skin
Then start a thread about it being an achievement at all. The OP is complaining about it being part of the meta, which you don’t actually need this achievement to get. It’s entirely unnecessary in order to get the meta.
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
I think in the recent stream it was said that the mini for sale would be replaced with a different one once the event ended.
Unfortunately I haven’t had time to check that stream out to verify, so take this with a grain of salt.
Complete the meta achievement: The Dragon Bash Experience
You need 10 achievements…although you can currently only get 8, so we have to wait until next week.

They’re not in game yet.
Per the patch notes, Burn Down The Dragons (the achievement associated with the effigies) is not doable until a later point, so the effigies aren’t in-game yet.
It looks like they’re giving the pack away for free to certain people (theory is those who have paid money for gems previously, but not confirmed), in which case it makes sense it wouldn’t be on the gem store yet because they want to make sure those players get the free one before paying for a set.
Could it be that this is the Scavenger hunt for the Precursor? Looking for all those caches around the game to forge your own precursor?
Yeah, if this is the scavenger hunt for the precursors…precursors are going to tank once it’s released. Unless there’s something extremely big missing, you can do those within a few hours or less (with mesmers it’d be incredibly fast). I’m going with future Living Story content instead.
It has nothing to do with precursors, sorry!
Thanks for the clarification! Been seeing people getting hyped that it’s a precursor hunt all over the place.
Could it be that this is the Scavenger hunt for the Precursor? Looking for all those caches around the game to forge your own precursor?

Hey folks,
While we do have the ability to turn some types of content on and off dynamically, the text for achievements are not one of those things. Unfortunately, this means if we have content that turns on before our next release, the achievement text will have to be available on patch day.
Many players require a bit of direction and context and we have found that the achievement text is a useful way for us to direct them. While there is a big downside of presenting some spoilers, we are working hard to frame the text so as to not spoil the actual events that will be happening over the next two weeks.
I will say that unlike the southsun achievements, all of the achievements in the dragon bash category will be accomplishable before our next release (hotfixes don’t count :p).
Could you, theoretically, do the achievement text update via hotfix when the content turns on? Not to be rude, but the odds of having a hotfix at some point, based on previous releases, seem pretty likely. It’s not the best scenario, but it could be an option.
Considering the reactions I see from previous content, players seem to expect a small update when new content is incoming anyway, even if it’s just being turned on.
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
You can also get from the Dragon Coffers, and from Dragon Ball (although that might be from a Dragon Coffer reward…if it’s not bugged). Obviously a rare drop from that.
Trading Post is also an option unless the info is wrong.
If it’s the Dragon Holograms…they’re about the same as the Wintersday gift boxes or the SAB boxes. If so, they respawn fairly quickly.
He means the achievements for content that is not added into the game yet. In the last Southsun event, we knew from day one it was Canach because of the achievements when we were not supposed to find out in the second phase. This would cut down on spoilers and confusion by players that are looking to complete achievements for content that doesn’t exist yet.
Actually, you could find out on day 1 it was Canach even without the achievement spoilers or the scavenger hunt reward (and it was somewhat predictable too), so while the point remains, it wasn’t that big of a spoiler.
This one’s…a bit bigger.
They’re RNG dependent because ANet has become greedy beyond belief.
And they’re account bound because every time they add limited edition weapons that can be sold, the majority end up being hoarded and sold for ridiculous amounts of money long after the event, and it does serious damage to the economy.
Like SAB weapon skins..
38 gold for that greatsword. pft.
On that note, remember that SAB had a very easy farm, and the tradeable versions were relatively easy to get (2% drop rate), so most who wanted the items got them already, hence the low price.
Compare that to Halloween.
No. Description help people like me. Casual to spend less time figuring WTH to do. If you don’t like it just don’t read it. You have the control of you own cursor no?
I think he means on the achievements that are not yet in game, such as Hard Boiled, Case Closed, and Ceremony and Acrimony. There is information for those that you don’t need to even mouse over to read. They could replace them with “??? – Not yet in game” until the content is actually available, so people know it’s not available yet and they don’t need to worry about it.
I’m going to go out on a relatively stable limb and say that’s not intended and will likely be patched to strip all effects, including food buffs, when entering.
Here is the GW2 wiki page for the Dragon Base release.

As always, the wiki is updated by players for players, so if you are able to update the page with information related to the Dragon Bash content, it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
To get the meta event reward you must complete 10 out of the 14 achievements. The firework show is an achievement, but you can miss it and still get the meta.
I don’t have as much problem if this is a recurring event and the mini will be available next time, when I may have more money than I do now.
If not…then (grumble).
I feel both Southsun and Orr could and should have heart quests.
Southsun already has some amazing views, and I do with they came with vista points
i never saw any explanation why there wasnt any but truthfully i wouldnt mind a few heart quests in orr and in southsun. my feelings are leave it like end game areas although i wouldnt mind if those got hearts too
The explanation for Orr was that there were very very few stable ally NPCs in Orr, since it’s portrayed as a war zone.
Horns of the Dragon helm(s) are the only time-limited item that we know of (who knows what will happen the rest of the month). Everything else can be done throughout the event.
They’d get a decent amount of money just sellign the damm tickets.
Unfortunately we have no actual information that they’d get close to or significantly more money than the current setup.
I suppose the good thing here is that the chests also have other things that are desired, such as a chance for the dragon wings, a new mini, and other consumables needed for the event.
There have been hints that there will be some sort of story involved. Scott McGough (one of the two main writers for the Living Story…AFAIK) mentioned that Kiel would be in charge of the security. Exactly how much story will be involved is still unknown.
I’m going to try and put mentions of any lore over on the Dragon_Bash Wiki page. I’ll be posting the link to these forums in a main thread once the patch launches and we can fill out solid info.
Any of Techenon’s ideas would be easier, quicker to execute and a lot less shady looking than what she actually did though.
To actually do or just say it happened? Some of those require a third party involvement to actually do, or may actually cause damage to the ship anyway.
Regardless, no matter what option she chose, or what situation the writer came up with, there’s going to be some people on the forums complaining it didn’t make sense and make a list of things they think she should have done anyway (because obviously their ideas are better), so it really doesn’t make a whole lot of difference.
What she did says more about what she’s willing to do in order to accomplish her task anyway. She could lie, or show Noll she means business and sending a strong message by blowing up the ship.
Someone lies to you…eh, not a real threat.
Someone willing to blow up a ship to tell you exactly what she thinks of you and your contracts? Says a lot.
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
I always figured Jory was female and that “Jory” was a nickname, due to the way it’s used (especially by people who shorten Divinity’s Reach to DR), and when a character named Marjory was revealed it snapped into place.
From Lord Faren:
Lord Faren: So you and Jory don’t do bodyguard work. Too bad. My body could definitely use some guarding.
This section of his dialogue always came across to me as if he is hitting on Kasmeer, like several of the conversations even while telling her about something else (and she shuts it down pretty hilariously). If Jory was a guy, I doubted Faren would mention him in this regard.
I also recall Kasmeer calling Jory a ‘he’ in her updated, LSaSs dialogue.
It wasn’t in a chat between them… you had to talk to Kasmeer to get it.
I can check again, but last I checked her latest LSaS dialogue was already here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lady_Kasmeer_Meade
You may be referring to this line: "Have I given you that impression? I must apologize. I’m actually looking forward to getting back to work. I may complain, but I love my job and my business partner and I make a great team. "
When I first read that, it sounded like she was saying she loved her business partner (which still doesn’t actually mean much in this game), but after reading it carefully there really should be a comma after “I love my job”, because the next bit is its own point.
Unless there’s an even more updated dialogue, she doesn’t call Jory a “he”, AFAIK.
There was no need to destroy the ship. Almost anything would have been better. Some possible alternatives:
- Oops. There was a fire in the cargo hold. All the contracts were burned. Sorry.
- Oops. There was a stowaway on board, obviously working for Canach, he/she threw all the contracts overboard/destroyed them with fire/acid/bitter tears. Sorry.
- Oops. Pirates. They took the contracts. Said something about needing toilet paper. We barely escaped with our lives. Sorry.
- Oops. Terrible storm, a nor’easter out o’ the sou’west, had to throw everything but the crew overboard to keep the ship from sinking. Sorry.
- Oops. We were attacked by deep sea trolls, vile enemies of Bubbles the Good, Friendliest Dragon of All. As it turned out these trolls had quite a taste for parchment and ink and ate all the contracts. Sorry. They really liked the taste of Consortium parchment and ink, though, so we gave them your address. If that’s any consolation.
With the ship destroyed, the Lionguard can argue against any claims from the Consortium that the Lionguard willfully destroyed the contracts. Kiel didn’t exactly have a lot of time to set up some grand conspiracy.
Like she said, she improvised.
Clearly some people did not follow the story. It was mentioned where to go and also in a memo that I stated earlier. Either re-do the Canach story instance or read the dialogue in the following article
Thank you.
That is the important line:Inspector Ellen Kiel: I’m going to fix this. All I need are reinforcements…and as much black powder as I can get.
This should hint everyone that they have to go to Kiel if they want to help with the contracts.
Except it still doesn’t. Keil has always had a yellow star and has always been interactable with important information. But she was never an actual key person for starting anything, despite being a main character even in the previous instances. There is no indication that she starts the instance until you happen to talk to her. Having something that specifically said she was the one would have been appreciated.
This is not true. The star went away for a while. She has it again now as of June 4th.
Besides, she is and always has been your main contact in the story. She’s the one who is sending you all the letters, and she was the first person you were supposed to talk to in the area. She’s going to fix this, she’s going to supply the ship to Lion’s Arch, she wants the contracts off Southsun Cove. She just sent you a letter. How many tells that you need to talk to Kiel before we just put a massive sign over her that says “click here”.
Maybe they could have made her wave or put a line somewhere, but it’s not like there’s nothing to point you to her. I doubt that would resolve it anyway, based on the complaints I see on other things where you’re pointed there anyway. Just go talk to her.
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
Again, you definitely do not need to be a guardian or put your back to the wall to beat Canach. I beat him as a level 8 necromancer, running around the room as intended. I never even used Death Shroud.
AGAIN, I didn’t say it was difficult, I said it was annoying.
Then stop saying you need to be a guardian to beat it as intended. That means you cannot do it otherwise, either because it’s too difficult or impossible. “What it boils down to” means “this is my point”. We are responding to your point, and your point is “if you want to beat this boss and run around as intended, you need to play a guardian” which is wrong.
If it’s just annoying to do it, you do not NEED to be a guardian to run around as intended. I ran around as intended as a level 8 necromancer, it wasn’t annoying at all, I think I got knocked around about 2 times and even got the Light Foot achievement.
-Why did Kiel have to blow up an entire ship? That seems incredibly excessive and wasteful just to get rid of some papers..
I don’t expect the living story to rival ‘War and Peace’, but I do wish the writers would aspire to something a notch or two above the average SyFy channel movie.
Destroying the Lionguard ship was not a reasonable course of action. Ships are not cheap, nor easily replaced, nor do they sail themselves – and worse, destroying such a vital military asset while the threat from the dragons still looms over all would likely be considered an act of treason. Kiel should be seeing some serious brig time right about now, while her superiors determine whether she should receive a nice, tight-fitting noose for her efforts, or perhaps a guest of honor seat in front of a firing squad.
This was even sillier than the ‘spy’ periscopes knocking people willy nilly about the landscape. Which was pretty darned silly.
One needs to appreciate the situation Kiel and Magnus find themselves in.
They’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. As long as the settlers continue to be practically slaves to the Consortium, the fighting will continue and stuff will be destroyed. They likely also cannot afford to continue keeping their soldiers on Southsun preventing violence when the upcoming Dragon Bash needs security. So Kiel came up with an idea to sacrifice one ship to rigged explosives rather than what is likely a much larger amount of resources trying to keep the fighting to a minimum, a situation that is unlikely to end anytime soon and may in fact continue to escalate with the animals behaving the way they are.
Destroying the ship is the lesser of two evils here. Yes, she technically broke the law, although if you listened to her final conversation with her direct superior, Magnus …he doesn’t really care. He wanted the situation resolved somehow because the Dragon Bash is coming up and they obviously don’t want to continue dealing with Southsun while that’s going on. She had to improvise to resolve it and he’s okay with the outcome despite the fact he’s going to be in trouble for losing a ship, and she says herself she’ll be dealing with the fallout for a while. The Lionguard on the ship were likely warned and told to abandon it once it started sinking.
And also, according to Kiel’s story…Canach blew it up. :P We know he didn’t, and Noll will claim Kiel did it, but unless they can prove it…
(edited by Vahkris.6847)
It’s odd how DeadlySynz is the only one that understood my topic. Yep, I said it was annoying. Not hard, just not any fun what so ever. And it’s unintuitive too.
- It makes no sense that disarmed mines cause damage to the boss
- No other boss requires you to look at the bottom left of the screen
- And even if you do look at the screen, you only see the last couple of messages. Which means you can easily mistake a message from an attack he already did, for one that he might be about to do.
What is basically boils down to, is that if you want to beat this boss, you either play a guardian and run around the room as intended. Or you go stand in the corner, with your back against the wall and camp one mine only. That is not a boss fight.
Again, you definitely do not need to be a guardian or put your back to the wall to beat Canach. I beat him as a level 8 necromancer, running around the room as intended. I never even used Death Shroud.
And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….
I think this is part of the problem. I’m sure you guys and gals are working on it, but honestly until some of the removed content actually comes back in some form (specifically parts that are already intended to come back like SAB or holidays), most people are going to think this is just talk. If we had some parts already back in some form, like a bounty or something, there’d be a precedent that would begin to tide some players over.
Of course, I know many just want the dungeon bosses revamped like AC already started.
More permanent content is good though. We like it when the game grows instead of feeling like it’s mostly shrinking when content is removed. That part really sucks.
I honestly see absolutely no connection between Guild Wars Beyond and GW2. But then again, the living story makes absolutely no sense. It’s certainly not a story.
well war in kryta just showed us how the white mantle got wiped out for good which is why they arent in this game, heart of the north set up gwen and kieren to get married who logan in gw2 is related to but i was referring to the team that made these updates because it obviously isnt the same people making the living story
The Mantle were not wiped out, not really. It’s suggested many times that the white mantle are the ones behind the bandit organization.
Sorry, I get nit picky about lore.
Do the human “Missing Parents” personal story branch if you want to know more.
Can anybody give me a detailed summary of what exactly happened? I literally have no clue, even after playing through the content. Here are a few questions I have, really.
Here is a good summary of Vahkris about Southsun:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/I-find-the-story-to-be-disjointed/first#post2116162And that’s my summary of the letters from Lost Shore-event which was in november:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/Lost-Shore-Old-Letters-from-the-Story/firstAnd this is readable, too:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/canachs-story-an-after-hours-meeting/
I recently moved a lot of information into the wiki article about The Lost Shores, which is the previous story arc before this one and introduced many of the characters as well as the island and karka. The first link above has me linking my write-up within my userspace on the wiki, which is great if you’re wanting it all at once, though.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores
Separate links in order:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores#Prelude
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_2
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_3
Read the Prelude at the bottom, then go through the articles for Phase 1, 2, and 3. Phase 1 and 2 have the dialogues on a subpage (links throughout those articles), but 3 has it on that one since it was short enough. I feel bad that I couldn’t get this done before these releases, and didn’t publicize it so people could brush up on the previous events so they weren’t as confused once these started.
The first link above has the plot points for these releases as well.
During the first four months, all the releases had a main plot name: Flame and Frost. We had “The Prelude”, “The Gathering”, “The Razing”, and “The Retribution”, but the story arc was always called “Flame and Frost”.
Do these two releases, “The Secret of Southsun” and “Last Stand at Southsun” have one? If not, is there a general name that most players tend to call this whole story arc?
I boycotted all RNG reward systems a long time ago…now I just consider them a bonus if I do get them.
If you and anyone else really wants them to move to selling the items directly, then spend money only on those items. Spend money on the three armor skins currently on the store, spend money on the pick and scythe, spend money on Rox and Braham’s weapons…spend money on anything that isn’t RNG.
As long as RNG obviously makes more money than selling them directly, a business is very unlikely to make the change everyone says they should make. If everyone stopped buying the RNG chests and they started making a lot more money on the direct items, then you might see change.
I’m just curious, but the Lost Shores content was released back in November. I recently went back through it on the wiki and filled in a lot of gaps on the documentation, as well as attached dialogue to the different phases (1 and 2 have it on subpages linked on the pages, 3 has it on the regular page) in order to try and make the lore available to understand, however I was curious.
Does ArenaNet count the Lost Shores content as part of the Living Story? Does anyone know? It came out before they had set up the whole Living Story thing, which may mean it’s not, but they’re using it as the backstory for these last two releases, so I’m thinking it’s part of it.
He risks it for the greater good (in his eyes). Collateral damage, so to speak.
A bit extreme, yes. But his intentions to help are good. Only his ways aren’t.About being extreme, I wonder why is this suddenly such a bad thing.
It is ok to blow up a cave full of skritts to protect your property, even if one of your co-workers suggested that you just tried to trade with them. That happens right under the Queen’s nose and nobody cares. I believe that mass murdering a sentient race because they stole your logging tools is pretty extreme.
However, it is not ok to be extreme when you are trying to free a lot of people that lost everything. They lost their homes, their families and friends, and now their freedom, but you are not allowed to help them by doing anything extreme.
Kiel obviously cares a bit more about those under her charge than the Queen does about hers.
1. How many players joined this game AFTER the Lost Shores event?
2. How LONG has it been SINCE the Lost Shores event?
Many players who were unable to attend Lost Shores would never know key pieces of the story without doing in-dept research, and doubtless, even many of those who did take part don’t remember all the details. In this you have only proved to us that the story does exist, that however does not excuse its lack of presentation. You shouldn’t have to scour the web to understand the story. A story, and especially and interactive one, should be shown, not told. But they don’t even tell us anything, we have to look it all up. At the very least a recap is expected, in chat boxes if nothing else.
Yes, it proves that there is a story. However, I must ask, if you develop a character over several bits, and all are relevant, exactly how much “recap” is necessary to make sure complaints don’t appear on the forums? How much is necessary before the developers have to expect players to go onto the official wiki and read up on past events, because recaps getting longer and longer?
The complainers will skip the lore regardless, though, even if it’s in-game. You know how I know? Because you’re doing it now.
Furthermore, while this tidbit of information does explain who Canach is, it still fails to link him to the current threat. Sure we know that the presence of his men enraged Karka in the past, but we have no idea how he did it this time, or even that it was he who was to blame for that matter.
He is linked through in-game content that you can play and see right now. It’s just not presented to you directly in some passive cinematic or a long scrolling text where you don’t have to do anything but be talked to. Even if you ignore the Fervid Censer, which blatantly states it, or the lore bits on the official site and videos released by ArenaNet, here’s the in-game lore bits that link him through the story:
1. Henrika is the NPC that triggers, without player control, the crazed animal attack at Steampipe Steading in Driftglass Springs. After the event, Kiel arrives to interrogate her and she talks about a sylvari that gave her the stuff that caused it, and that her target was the records (i.e. the contracts they all signed). Kiel suspects Canach here.

2. Henrika later, at Pearl Islet where the gate is, specifically states it was Canach. This is far easier to see because it’s her default dialogue.
3. A conversation between Noll and Inspector Kiel reveals that the places that the animals are targeting hold records, and that the copies on the mainland are already destroyed. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Inspector_Ellen_Kiel)
4. Kiel’s second mail, at the beginning of to players states that they’ve identified that Canach is responsible, and players are asked to help bring him to justice. Interestingly enough, clicking Show Me in the email gives an even further piece of information…that he’s suspected to be hiding out in Bakestone Cavern.
5. Going to Bakestone Cavern, you discover a portal entrance with a Lionguard Deputy stating that Kiel’s hunch was right, and that Canach is inside.
There are definitely holes in the story, and it’s not perfect, but the pieces are definitely there.
I do have an 80 guardian, which I used to get the first completion (which I put my back to the wall), but the second run through used a level 8 necromancer using Signet of the Locust as my only utility, this time running around and avoiding the mines and getting the light foot achievement. It’s entirely possible to complete it without stability.
I do have to point out that the first message you see in chat is specifically the note that Canach is eluding all attacks and to use mines to defeat him. Logic dictates that you cannot get close to the mines until they’re disarmed, so players should be able to figure that out (I’m of the opinion that it’s better to point out the strategy and allow players to figure out the specifics, rather than constantly bombarding players with exact strategies at every turn). The problem is the text is only in the chat box, which most players don’t look at regularly.

It’s not what you’re hoping it is, sadly. It’s just basic armor with the same stat arrangement as the new trinkets… http://www.gw2db.com/search?search=settler
Hate to burst your bubble but there it is, more than likely at least :/
Well, since the merchant isn’t there yet and we haven’t heard anything to back that up, there’s no use making speculative assertions. No bubbles to burst yet.
I think it would make sense to have LS themed gear, done in the same fashion of tokens-to-gear like the SAB. Putting in regular stuff wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense considering the effort it will take to make the merchant available. Having to gain control of all the areas takes some effort and organization. Doing that to make the merchant pop and then to find out his offerings are what you suggest would be a real let down to say the least. I certainly wouldn’t participate to access a gear merchant with Healing+Toughness+Cond stats :/
But you know, you could be right. It seems that their preferred choice is to gate the new skins behind RNG crates/boxes.
Yes, you’ll participate…lots of people will participate. When the merchant pops, there’s also a World Boss that spawns that gives a daily bonus chest of 2 guaranteed rares. People will be causing the merchant to spawn along the way towards getting the boss to spawn.
This setup is very similar to the Orr temple events, except the merchant happens before the boss.
1. He becomes immune to conditions after the first shield comes up. Before the first shield, he can be hit by conditions. Once that shield comes up you need to be direct damage or it doesn’t affect him at all. He wasn’t even getting affected by my immobilizes after the first shield, but before that first one his health was dropping fast because we had 2 condition specs in the group.
Needless to say we failed 5 times because we didn’t have enough damage to burn him down at the last bit before we gave up.
2. They need to put the text prompts where you normally see “New Event Nearby”
