that rank 16 wasn’t afk. he just kept trying to kill our mesmer who held control of the cannon but was never successful.
i only get these kinds of wins on the skyhammer map.

4v5 is rampant now and quitters too. although, it takes strategy with one sneaky guy capturing nodes opportunistically to still win a 4v5 match. ^^,

The real problem is that people overuse, and often incorrectly use terms. Point being:
- Stats from traits are passive.
- Many/most traits are passive.
- Boons are passive once applied.
- Conditions are passive once applied.
- CCs are "passive"ly keeping someone still once applied.
- Pets are passive.
- All signets are passive.
- Attacks with evades on them are passive.
- Sigils are passive
- Runes are passive.
- Amulets are passive.
- Auto attack is passive.
- Initiative gain is passive.I think that’s enough so that you can hopefully get my point. It’s an mmo, this isn’t street fighter. If you want to play a game with absolutely no passive effects go play a fighter. Otherwise learn to deal with whats rightfully a part of MMOs and just deal with it. A good build has a strong mix of both passive bonuses and active. That’s the whole idea behind sustain versus burst in any mmo. Are some passives really powerful? Yes. Are some actives also really powerful? Hell yes. So why are we still complaining about it? If you don’t like the core basics of mmos don’t play one and get upset when it has stats and character building… That’s all there is to it. This is fact, not opinion.

there’s nothing wrong with shortbows. it has stun, daze and evade. it’s perfect for me. clearly, you are underestimating rangers who use shortbow too much.
you can always go hotjoin if you have so many complaints about soloq. soloq is 80% luck 20% skills. don’t take it seriously. i like soloq because it has less zergs.
why get worked up about your standing from the leaderboards? it’s just a game for kids and kids at heart. this is not real sports like soccer and chess, dude. it’s not something that you can tell your family and friends that you’re good at it. lol

no not exactly. >< That’s why this game has evolved into OP vs OP builds and nothing more. And things like this cause a power creep. Oh this is too powerful for condies? Lets not nerf it, lets buff condies. Condies too OP now? lets extend the duration of Zerker stance to 8 seconds. Get the point? Then all you have are OP builds trying to stay relevant and anything else becomes further and further left behind. kitten needs to be nerfed, its part of mmos, some stuff comes down, some goes up to EVENTUALLY find some balance. There’s no balance in everything being OP, it just ruins the game.
just let people have fun, dude. you are running an op build too so i dont get it why you’re getting so worked up about a rune. so what do you want anet to do? delete it?

(Blood fiend is exchangeable for CC, but I prefer Blood fiend for heal through stuns. Also if you’re roaming a lot I’d suggest shadow fiend over the flesh wurm.)But it does require a lot of skill to use versus top players (rolls right over nubs though). Versus high end players you have to watch more closely to the placement of your bone minions, the HP of your sacrifice minions to ensure you get the most use, and become REALLY good at chain cc/snares so that you can keep your minions up on people, but if you do it right, it’s very deadly 1v1.
They’re also incredibly potent in 2v2 when coupled with Spirit ranger (Petting Zoo comp) or with a Venom Share thief (VSMM comp). In fact Fallou T and I got banned for Petting Zoo being too powerful… :/
Lastly; I’d just like to say I’m not sure what all the fuss is about not being able to see because of clutter versus builds that spawns entities (AI builds if you will), because our first match up was Petting Zoo comp versus Petting zoo comp, 4 AI builds and I had absolutely no issues telling what was going on. I think it really comes down to practice with fighting these types of builds, and learning to not instantly feel overwhelmed, which is why many people lose to them. (Except thieves without a lot of evades, teleports or stealth, those just aren’t 1v1 builds to begin with but even in the hands of a good player they don’t often have much of a chance.)
that’s what i noticed too, necros are just OP when paired with a spirit ranger. but a spirit ranger with an ele is OP. i had a match with 4 eles in soloq and i was able to tank a node effectively which was unexpected. i also had a 3v4 duel at a private arena and we still won. our team consisted of an ele, a mesmer and me as a spirit ranger and the other team was 2 engineers, a guardian and a necro. it must be the regen from the nature spirit that made our team overpowering and not letting the other team touch our ele who helped us a lot to kill our enemies quickly.

I play mesmer, warrior and spirit ranger and I find spirit ranger best 1v1. What are your thoughts about this?
i think a spirit ranger and an ele is a good tandem. A spirit ranger standing on a node bunkering while elementalists are inflicting massive damage to anyone who tries to contest the node.
i’ve played a power ranger build in a long time and based on my experience, as long as the tankers are alive I can play my role well. it must be the same for elementalists.

I lol’d. Explain, how do you manage to contest a node, prick around with zerg weapon and kill an engineer? Sure, If you give me WvW map and my ranger vs. pretty much any engineer I’ll kill him because of my huge range/kiting advantage. But in tPvP you can’t manage your range and any engineer, bah, any half-decent player will kill you unless you play flawlessly and they’re not any bunker

nerf everybody except power spirit rangers. i’ll be very happy.
I mainly do pvp so based on my experience this is the list (1 for the easiest 8 for the hardest):
1. Thief
2. Elementalist
3. Another Ranger
4. Mesmer
5. Warrior
6. Engineer
7. Guardian
8. Necromancers
these types of threads never cease. people wont stop complaining. i think it must be easier for these people to complain than find ways to counter.

yes. just use quickening zephyr with crossfire.
spirit of nature needs a buff. 180 sec is just bad. and the res can be interrupted easily. what the ranger needs is res spirit with 120 sec cooldown and we need to get the frost spirit buffed (the damage bonus is not enough).
just do it yourself. spectate and grab one player from the other team. everybody does it.
This map pops so often it makes me think Anet wants to drive away their players. Whenever I play hotjoin I end up leaving the game if this map pops and if it pops on a soloQ I log off and play another game.

no. don’t remove it. this is the only map that you can win even with a really bad team composition. it takes skills to win with this map not just running some cheesy builds.
guardians and necros are the ones untouched. we all know they need a huge nerf since day 1.
Nobody was saying that there are no counters, though. It’s that the combination of effects it can give are too strong in comparison to other elites. Strong enough that it’s suppressing other team comps from being as viable as ones containing a Ranger.
you’re just getting frustrated because they can replace your role as a bunker. i can tank 1v3 fights long enough before my team arrives. guardians and spirit rangers are pretty much the same, IMO.
Maybe I don’t get it, since I am only rank 9 and really started pvp today, but I was wrecking with my staff ele in most of the matches I played. The matches we lost, however, were full of accusations towards me, regardless of how well I did lol. One guy even sent me a nasty little whisper and then logged off in an apparent rage.
Is solo queue not for noobs? Where else am I supposed to learn the maps and mechanics? This is a serious question, as I don’t want to be starting this game mode off on the wrong foot with the community.
Side note: I play TONS of WvW, so I am used to taking on other classes with my ele. I am not a noob to the class or the staff. I think my biggest handicap is not being familiar with the game mode in general.
am i the only person who hasn’t seen anyone bashing on an ele?
To OP: don’t let those people make you feel bad about what you enjoy playing. this is just a game. it’s not like people bet with real money on soloq.
some people just need to take this game a little less serious.

i once had a match with 4 ele’s on my team. it wasn’t that bad. we almost won. i think we could have won the match if there were only 3 eles and there was another tanky profession on the team. i played as a spirit ranger on that match, btw.

i’m playing hambow and spirit ranger in pvp to annoy people. these are both strong builds but require skill to run it efficiently.

Fact is that condition cheese specs shouldn’t be so effective as they are atm…playing cond bunkers because you’re bad should lead to you being less effective than someone playing let’s say an high risk/reward d/p thief…but in this meta we’re nowere near to this, most easy to play specs are also the most effective ones giving bads the chance to play at the same level of someone with way more skills but without a fotm spec..this casual friendly mentality is leading pvp to doom more at every patch coming out…pvp must reward skills not specs..skilless builds must sit in the up tier otherwise bads will still match up vs good players and “good” players (Well those high ranks who just ride fotm can’t be called good after all) running braindead builds will be almost immortal vs other specs
I have to disagree with you stongly on what you think bad/good player is made of. You see, you can’t assume that someone is bad player, just because he runs over-the-top spec. You know what is the difference between good and great player? Imo good player will try not to play fotm builds, will try to find one on his own, one that suits his playstyle, one that is a challenge to play. Good player will try to be innovative and fresh, will steer away from cheesy and cheap builds – I think some ppl even think of them as not honourable. It’s ok, nothing wrong with that. Now the great player, do you know what he thinks about what I just wrote above? Trust me, it’s something like “haha, kitten you, scrub!”, then he finds most op, cheap, cheesy build out there and abuse it mercilessly, cause he plays to win. You see, this game DOES NOT reward players for playing uber-complicated, innovative builds. It DOES NOT reward honourable and friendly playstyle. What it DOES reward is, killing other players (5 pts) the quicker the better, de/capping points (10 pts), holding points (1-3 pts/2 sec). That’s all. So you can’t call ppl bad players, just because they do whatever they can to win, it’s a main goal of this game to WIN. No reward for losers (except for trick and treat bags^^).
TL;DR
If you don’t play highest possible spec or most op build available, you’re doing it wrong. This is however only my opinion, I respect you and didn’t mean any offense. Have a good day!

i was at a soloq match yesterday on skyhammer with a mes, a thief, an ele, a guard and me as a spirit ranger. we won 500-499. we were losing points hugely at the start of the match. opposite team had 2 warriors who were killing my teammates relentlessly.
but we were able to catch after we were able to get hold of the cannon. i think that if we were on a different map we couldnt had won that match. having a strong build for 1v1 is a huge help to hold the cannon for as long as it takes. i just told my teammates to zerg on a point that we could contest and have one go to a node that was safe to capture while i was using the cannon to help my teammates kill the enemies who had bunkier builds.

also if you play spirit ranger your challenge shouldn’t be winning every 1v1, it’s supposed to be winning every 1v2 … well basically it’s 5v2 – you, your pet and 3 spirits vs 2 – just add quality to the quantity and profit
i agree. you can even beat 2 warriors at the same time if they are bad to mediocre players. lol
It is an adjustment but I think you may find far more rangers using spirits.
After all, you don’t have to spec 30 in nature to get the spirits to move with you.Those 10 extra points can create whole new builds leveraging spirits.
You need 30 to get them to use their ability on death which is also critical to the build. Nothing has changed for a spirit build. The condi/regen bunker builds got some improvements.
i agree. nature vengeance is very critical in running a spirit build effectively. the nerf to the storm spirit is huge and quite mean, IMO.
what most people don’t know that spirit rangers can perform as a bunker, offensive and support. it can outperform all other ranger’s builds. nerfing it made a lot of rangers unhappy.
What do you think will be the best build for it after the patch? Will they still be viable after patch? Why do you think people hate it so much? So many questions. I’m sorry.
Well if they nerf the only WvW viable build, I have no idea. It took me forever to get to Spirits and now they want to take away the only way some stay alive against huge odds…
Not happy with Anet’s choices in nerfing Ranger when we are low man on the totem regardless of map or level.

btw, if you have the chance to res an ally do it. it’s much better than stomping the enemy first. you can attack the downed enemy a little and then rush to your ally to res him.
