BTW, I’m still the best ele in these parts. Don’t get that twisted.

Self proclaimed “best”. It amuses me so many people claim to be the best. I will give that some people have a tiny cult following, but that doesn’t make you the best.

I pretty much ignore the people who claim to be the “best” because in most cases they are not worth listening too. Just a over inflated ego and the desire to be the “best”.

The sPvP community is very…. how do I type this without getting a infraction…. “poor” on a good day. I am fairly certain the sPvP scene is dead at this point with very little hope of revival. With all the “pros” running around you would assume the game is doing great in sPvP……

Warrior, Does it suck in WvW?

Vanthian.9267

The Thief has more utility and can be more useful for WvW. They are also better at 1v1 with the right build. A good dagger/pistol thief will destroy any Warrior.

If you mainly do PvE the Warrior would suit better. They are usually wanted more in dungeons for Dps. Not to say that a Thief isn’t useful in a dungeons; just that the majority of the population in the game doesn’t understand what a Thief can bring to a dungeon group. I would personally prefer to run a Thief, with 80% of the damage and with 500% times the ability to survive, over a Warrior.

If you like the idea of a Warrior, I would suggest a Guardian. They are needed in everything and can do 60-75% of the damage of a Warrior while still being 800% better at surviving.

Sadly, I chose a Warrior as my main at launch (should have went Guardian)… but there is hope they will get buffed. (Just not any time soon).

Hope it helps.

FACE PALM

So you labeled him a FEMALE poster with the comment on PMS then got offended by him assuming you were a MALE poster….. oh the irony. My comment “on which clearly implies he is a female” was in regards to the one you called a female.

So…. I made no comment on your gender just the one comment on your logic. Also, the comment was made in the typical fashion of a old saying. As in, “The kettle calling the pot black” or “The pot calling the kettle black”. (the irony being both are black in most cases).

Edit: Also, just looking at that statement, with no context of everything else, just those seven words, it would appear that I was saying the person were female not male.

Edit 2: To stay on topic: AC dungeon path 3, remove the functionally of relying on a NPC AI to beat the final boss.

My point being, what is needed for FotM and what is only there to make it slightly faster but can not do it by themselves?

Sure you could do frac 48 with 5 guardians and take forever, or 1 guardian 4 warriors and end it in 20 minutes.

The fact that you only need one guardian just proves the fact further that their support is completely out of wack in comparison to Warriors.

Warriors might bring a little more damage than other classes, but their ability to survive in comparison is hideous. I would take 80% of their damage for 300% of the ability to survive any day. There is a reason that Warriors are not asked for in most places besides CoF.

In WvW we can jump into 10 people and down 3 in one second, haste-stake one and leap away unharmed -…

If by unharmed you mean swamped then yes. You do not jump into 10 people and live as a Warrior. That is a ideal situation with culling carrying you out which might happen once out of one million “jumps”. Only a Thief and bunker Elementalist can jump into group of 10, down and kill people, and get out clean. Guardian can easily take on 2-3 people at a time but will have a hard time killing any of them if they are smart.

I only login my Guardian when I get those fail PuGs and I need to carry them, that’s about it.

Shot your own argument down right there…..at the end too.

Random pro Warrior stuff….

You are deluding yourself thinking the Warrior profession in any roll can stand against any of the Guardians’ rolls in sPvP. Guardians can out perform any Warrior in any sPvP situation. It takes a pretty bad Guardian to lose to a Warrior.

The only time a Warrior will ever outdo a Guardian is in PvE on direct damage. It is very simple to see and understand but people refuse to accept this simple truth. Go stroll through the sPvP thread and you will see this opinion form the majority of people there. Only PvE people tend to think that the Warrior profession is “balanced” and right with the world. Why is that you may ask? Everything is OP in PvE. You can literally auto attack through most zones, so of course most people would assume the Warrior profession is good since it has some of the highest auto attack damage… but sadly auto attacks do no make for great class balance.

So what I had said gives you the assumption that I am a male?
What about the females who join the military? ( What does that have to do with this? )
well military is normally a male job / male decision, what about the females who box?

There are a lot of things that are seen where males typically do but females do as well. Just not as “common”

Just because I may type things out like a male, does NOT mean I am. Why am I getting so worked up on it? Because I am sure you wouldn’t want to be called female when you’re a male. I don’t want to be called male, when I am a female.

Nothing in my post points toward a hint at you being male. In fact, I really don’t care what gender you are as it makes no difference on the logic of the situation.

The IMS comment was solely for the point of education. Women have PMS, while some males suffer form IMS, but if you would like to continue to play the victim I guess I have no control over this but it really has no place in a forum on the topic of dungeons and their difficulty factor. I am sure there are other forums that would love to hear about how “men” on the internet constantly belittle their female counter parts while getting 20% more upvotes on the same opinions.

I like the skill it takes to beat dungeons in this game. Seriously, you need to be good to do them. I mean, who else but the elite can rely on the Warmaster Grast to protect them from Colossus Rumblus.

Sarcasm aside, it is horribly stupid to make a group rely on faulty NPC AI. When a pet AI has trouble attacking something on a hill (or attacking in general for all you Necormancers out there), why would I put my entire dungeon group at risk during the last boss fight by relying on a NPC to cast a shield (that he only will do if he is not charging his hammer for a useless attack mind you) to protect us from a very possible one hit death move.

As someone who has put in 1000+ hours into a Warrior and around 300+ into Guardian: Don’t do yourself the disservice of choosing a Warrior over Guardian.

Guardians are better support/sustain for groups/self and are a better class overall in comparison to Warriors. Warriors only have high damage that will get them no where in high level FotM or in sPvP/tPvP. In fact, Warriors have no place outside of Hot join sPvP for a reason. The Warrior class is crippled by most conditions (weakness/cripple/chilled/blind are the major ones).

Where as the Guardian profession is a NEEDED part of any tPvP set up. It is rare for a high level tPvP team to roll without a Guardian. In PvE 30+ FotM it is also rare for a group to roll without a Guardian.

Now with that said, I do enjoy my Warrior greatly even though they are sub-par as a profession in comparison to the others. If you are looking for a effective profession that is needed and has great ability to do whatever you want in the game… go with the Guardian. Warrior is fun to see big numbers, but outside of that they offer very little.

Please note: The Guardian is at a disadvantage when in a ranged fight. That is the only weakness they suffer as a profession. Specter is okay, but that will not compete with a Ranger shortbow/longbow.

Hope that helps.

Would you please stop updating this post. It is outrageous that it has been on the front page this long. Everyone knows it is a bad joke saying the Warrior is better at something than any other class. Stop updating this post, please….. I am tried of seeing it on the front page when there should be actual discussions of the Warrior class going on. Not some absurd notion that they are the “healer” in this game. Yes shouts heals are…. meh at best. Adding banners to that will not make the best healer in the game… it is broken logic to think that 40+((Level^2) x 0.18) + (Healing x 0.8) then adding in banners 130 + (0.125 * Healing Power) per second are effective heals for a zerg of 30+ (actually anything over 5…..)

Healing is not the point of this game. Denial of damage goes so far beyond healing …. That is why the Guardian will always, ALWAYS be better than the Warrior at supporting a group.

Everyone knows it is wrong. It is very easy to see why it is wrong. Just let this thread die, please….

Why is the tone and style of GW2 so "goofy"

Stuff.

I am impressed that you would even being to compare Guild Wars 1 story to Guild Wars 2. I mean it is such a obvious land slide as to which is the better…. Guild Wars 1 wins by a very, very, very wide margin.

All your points are covered in lore. I will just mention one:
Why are the Charr attacking Humans?

Due to the Human Gods letting the Human race loose upon Tryia and not actually creating them a place to stay, the original inhabiting race (aka the Charr) where pushed from their land. The Charr roamed the majority of the land of Tryia and were happy that way. They were a “not so advanced” race that got upset due to losing 1/100000000 of their land. So for the next however many years they besieged the closest thing to them, Ascalon.

That is some original lore for you that set up the forefront of Pre-Searing Ascalon. That is not even post, or rather the main game. This is not even taking into account the Human lore of the actual Guild Wars with Devona father and how Adelbern took the throne from Duke Barradin.

Guild Wars 2 did nothing to bring the lore to life like the original did. The constant jokes/pop cultural references ruin its lore. I don’t mind jokes here and there, but when the majority of the game (80%) is nothing but a running joke, it gets very old fast. I was looking forward to the expansion of the awesome lore driven story from Guild Wars 2 and was sorely disappointed.

Guild Wars 2 story is more limp than a wet noodle when compared to Guild Wars 1.

I think the quaggan backpacks are ugly. The Dreamer makes me want to vomit.

I knew I wasn’t the only person who felt this way. Quaggans are far from cute and the Dreamer has to be the worst, by a very, very, very, very wide margin, weapon ever created in any game.

I honestly thought they posted that as a joke when they first mentioned it and then I saw it in the game…. and I cried a little on the inside. How they have fallen.

To those who say it is a joke weapon…. They could make a joke weapon without WASTING a legendary status on it. This is not the only “joke legendary” sadly.

What once was a great company that made a great game and had decent balance, not great or outstanding, between professions is now in shambles. The balance between professions is a joke in Guild Wars 2. The sPvP matches are littered with Elementalist/Mesmers/Rangers/Guardians… WvW is littered with Elementalist/Mesmers/Rangers/Thiefs….. it is just a joke at this point.

The game is still slightly fun for the dungeons and new style of combat, but I think overall I would have been more happy if they kept the old Guild Wars style.

That was off topic, I know.

The RNG is just another thing that Anet is doing wrong. The OP is slightly correct when asking why put this new item on a RNG. It makes no sense other than to drain a little bit of cash out of one millionth of the population that still plays. They would make more money putting these items directly into the gem store. Just look at how many blue Quaggan back packs there are in the world. I have yet to see one pink.

As to the claim that it is sexist……… really?

I maximize my damage while having a lot of tanky stats.

Maxing damage on a “tank Warrior build” (I use tank in the lightest meaning possible as there is no such thing as a Warrior Bunker/Tank in the PvP setting) means having around 1,200 power for a final attack rating of around 2,500 attack… Sure you can might stack up to around 3,000ish, but you are missing the real reason why Damaged Traited/Geared people do a ton of damage; Critical Damage.

I consider my dps to be pretty good despite my tanky stats and I’d love to know what you consider “average” crit chance or crit damage to be on what you consider to be a “tanky” build.

I would say average or relativity low critical chance is around 40%.

Better nerf Elementalist/Mesmer/Engineer/Guardians as well because there are people who play those classes and have soloed dungeons as well.

The Warrior profession need some serious buffs to be viable/contend in the PvP environment. If you want to compare something you should go for Killshot vs. Churning Earth.

Point being, complaining about animation times when there are other classes that suffer far worse fates in that department and countless others than the ones Elementalist currently face.

Also no, Hundred Blades is around three and a half second channel (one and three fourths with frenzy). The most complained about skill for the Warrior class.

Also note, most people who complain about Warriors in a PvP setting don’t understand that the Warrior is honestly the worst PvP professions in this game. Just because he has high damage does not make them over powered. All you have to do is chill/cripple a Warrior and that is basically the fight for any ranged profession, as for a melee profession all you need is blind. The offense of a Warrior is great, I agree, but their defenses are none existent.

Warrior is not a “pve class”.

At the moment, that is all the Warrior has to his name, and to be honest Warriors are awesome at it.

In sPvP or tPvP you will get your face kicked in by anyone that is decent and plays a Engineer/Necromancer/Thief/Guardian/Ranger/Mesmer. Warriors have the damage to contend, like the some have said in this thread, but their defensive side is so lacking that you will never be able to stand without someone else holding you up and pushing you forward in PvP.

In PvE, it doesn’t honestly matter because it is so easy. The Warrior is highly viable on targets that do not move much and that is what all the mobs do in PvE. Mobs will literally sit and face tank a One Hundred Blades….

As a fellow forum poster once wrote, “Playing a Warrior in PvP is like wearing flippers to a track race”.

With only one decent build available to them for PvP that can be killed by basically anyone that is decent with another other class.

I agree that Engineers need some love on their offensive builds, but the Warrior need nothing short of a miracle for their defenses.

The Ranger and Necromancer only have minor issues compared to the previous two mentioned.

Yes, you can complain about getting a “Bull’s Charge” in the back plus a frenzy, hundred blades combo, but it is slightly less effective than getting instantly downed by a thief’s backstab.

Ranger counter?

Vanthian.9267

100b isn’t that threatening, as most warriors just try to wing it and end up falling to their knees begging the other player to give them another month to learn. I watched my brother on his engineer take a full 100B channel (stun breaker was on cd) and he only got to about half hp. We then proceeded to picking the armor bits off the warrior as he tried limping away. Considering how quickly he died, I bet he was using berserker amulet. 100B warrior get easier to counter as days go on since most people just look online for some youtube hero build and disapoint themselves over and over…

Still nothing comes close to berserker HS thieves and how laughably easy it is to kill them.

Yeah, some people are not good at it. Some Warriors don’t’ time their burst right and use all their utilities in one go instead of setting it up. That is not what happened in my case. I have come across bad everything in this game and they all die the same except for the ones that stack passive abilities.

It is not their reaction time that saves them nor their decisions in the fight. They must rely on passive effects to save them. That is not skill.

Also, I agree. Warriors are not that threatening to anyone who knows their class and can play. Secondly, I don’t care what your “youtube heros” are doing. I made my own build through playing the game and testing. I have taken a few suggestions from other Warriors, who were better than me, on sigils for the weapons.

This Ranger however was clearly new and had just traited into anything that gave him more health and defense. He would dodge to get protection when I wasn’t even in melee range/use his evade skill for no reason/use his crowd control skills on me in a spam wave so I only had to use one stun breaker instead of waiting to use them on my only heal/would try to “burst” me when I was blocking while he knew, at the later point in the match, that I could reflect projectiles… etc. He didn’t react to anything he just basically used random skills at random times instead of thinking about what he was doing. This is the type of play that should not be survivable/viable in a PvP setting. He had 0 chance to kill me because I could easily react to his button mashing play style. What I could not combat/beat was his 24/7 protection and regen passives.

Anyway I am done since no one can actually offer advice on it. The only thing I can think of doing is getting the sigil that removes boons on crit.

The only thing that has happened for me in this thread is one guy offering up false facts…. sad day. Rangers don’t’ get protection like Warriors do… lol. I will remember that for a while.

Serious rage issues. The point must be pretty valid with you getting so upset. Point is, they are smaller and harder to target, you can’t deny the truth/facts. Now, you can debate to how much of factor is that in a fight. Well…. that is for everyone to have their own opinion.

The only problem with asking them to change size/ban Asuras is that people might actually have to play with some slight skill instead of relaying on passive choices made regarding race/build. You should know by now that the majority of sPvPers don’t’ play to showcase skill but to cheese other people. The backlash from all the unskilled Mesmers/Thiefs/Guardian Asuras would be huge. Granted they still have their Op classes to fall back on, but they would still cry.

@Vanthian Sounds like that ranger was using a very similar build to mine, a survival build..

should a 1 v bunker be easy? no!
should it be possible? yes!

as you said it wasn’t easy.. but you also said it wasn’t that hard.. so that seem about right..

would you expect to down a bunker guardian or bunker ele in the same time?

yes rangers have more regen.. warriors have more armor..
only durations for protection are 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s.
2 are from traits the 2s and 5s and the other
2 are from runes

there are only 2 +15% protection duration runes in the game

so at most you can extend the duration by 1.5s at most and by doing that you gimp your build just for the 2 +15% durations..

Quote “Vanthian” Edit: The fact that I could pull off multiple 100 blades burst combo’s on him and he would always fall for it shows that it was not his skill that keep him alive. It was his protection traits and regen. Without that he might had to actually use a little skill to live."

or because he knew he had specced to take damage he could of been saving those dodges for later.. I know I do..

ahh so his build kept him alive.. did he put that together? is part of the “skill” knowing how to spec?

if you were so good at getting him down to say 25%hp then why would you not wait and watch for his heal interrupt it so he cant heal for abit then burst him down..

to me it sounds like you have always beaten rangers because we were/are underpowered in so many ways I bet you just expect him to go down without a fight..

to me sounds like he out played you.. cus you died.. he didnt..

He didn’t kill me at all, he couldn’t. He spent 15 minutes trying too. Final score: Me 1 him 0. So no, I was on top the entire fight. I had no threat of being killed by him. Also note that he couldn’t even keep the point capped. I had the point capped the majority of the fight until I got tried of getting him to 25% and then healing to full, so I left and he chased me for the remainder of the fight.

Also, I don’t think any decent play would eat 100 blades combo to the face on purpose. The fact is, he wasted his stun breakers and dodges are on small baits and auto attacks… that shows he doesn’t know what is dangerous and has 0 clue about what to dodge. The fact that he lived even though he wastefully used his defensive moves says something about how ridiculous the regen effect was.

As to Guardians/Elementalists bunkers, yes if they mess up they die to me. There is no taking a 100 blades combo to the face and surviving for them. They slip up they will die.
Again, if the only reason you live is because you have passive regen effects and protection…. that is not skill, that is sad.

In a game that prioritizes damage mitigation over tanking damage no one would openly eat a burst combo if they have the skill to avoid it. It is pretty unwise to argue that you would eat a full burst to save your dodges for “later”. Why you ask? Because after the burst the person has nothing else to really hurt you with. Why handicap yourself by eating the burst? Right, because you don’t know what the burst is and you don’t know how to dodge it.

A. Its not 24/7 Protection, It’s 2 seconds of protection per dodge 24/7 Protection would be something like Elementalist and maybe Guardian.

B. The Regen is the same as your Signet Heal, we can an extra regen via a talent that would be comparable to your Shout healing you talent.

C. Protection? Are you referring to the dodge protection? Because other then it and the one in Natures line for 5 seconds we don’t have a whole lot of protections available. This isn’t the Warrior class…

It sounds like he outplayed you to be honest, I mean you couldn’t kill him…..Despite being a burst warrior…

Quite sad really.

One, he did have protection up at least 75% of the time. The regen he had is no where near as crappy as the Warrior signet. Comparing it to that is laughable. Even my trait as a Warrior is crap. In total if I had both I would regen maybe 400 health every 3 seconds. Also, shout heals on a 25 second cool down that only heal for 1,000.. yeah that isn’t going to cut it. That is no where near what he was doing.

Also, you must not know a lot about the Warrior class… “we don’t have a whole lot of protections available. This isn’t the Warrior class…” Whaa? Warriors have 0 , count them, 0 skills/traits that give protection.

Edit: The fact that I could pull off multiple 100 blades burst combo’s on him and he would always fall for it shows that it was not his skill that keep him alive. It was his protection traits and regen. Without that he might had to actually use a little skill to live. Also, he was traited and skilled for a bunker style play, yet a Warrior in burst traits/gear kept up with him… yet another reason why he was outplayed. Without his regen trait that heals for 2-3k every 6 seconds or his protection, he would have died in one round of bait and burst.

So let me see if I understand this..

You killed the ranger the first time, then the second time couldn’t kill him, but he couldn’t kill you..and you’re mad?

Also your post is quite hilarious

“He only survived based on his access to the abilities of his class, The abilities my class have play no part in how amazing I’m at the game”

No, I am not mad, I am asking why do Rangers have access to 24/7 protection and regen. That is truly the only reason he survived. He couldn’t dodge anything I put on him because I could easily bait him out of his stun breakers. I was completely out of skills and basically walked around the map with him chasing me.

Who can’t catch up to a Warrior with rush+whirlwind+bull charge+signet of rage on cool down? He should have easily finished me off just by crippling me and auto attacking.

Edit: I killed him the first time because he just ran around in circles while letting his pet attack me. When I got him to half health with auto attacks he tried to burst me down. I guess he assumed I was a noob since I haven’t switched my weapons or armor from the starter. Needless to say, once he was at half I full 100 blade+frenzy+bulls charge, he dropped. He didn’t use his protection in that fight, only the regen.

What I want to know is why do they get protection on dodge roll plus a constant regen effect (I don’t know where it comes from) that basically makes them near immortal.

I was on my Warrior and came across a Ranger. He thought he would be a “leet PvPer” and give me a head start then try to burst me down, big mistake. I took him down easy and shoved his pet down his throat. Then he came back and actually played. He was mediocre at the class; I say this because he got hit by things he should have been able to easily dodge.

The only reason I could not kill him was the constant regen and full time protection. I could easily get him to 25% multiple times in a fight, but he would just heal right back up in less than 9 seconds. I would bait him to use his evades every time, but still my burst would fail even though it hit 100% on.

I had to run away just due to cool downs, while he could just sit there and auto attack me and swap pets for quickness.

He basically chased me the entire match and never got me below 75% health while I spiked him multiple times with my full burst combo and he always survived with at least 25% health. He didn’t survive the combo due to skill. He only survived due to his class having access to regen and protection basically 24/7.

I clearly outplayed this person, but just due to class traits and general boon access I couldn’t kill him,. Any decent Ranger would have wiped the floor with me the second my burst was off and I was out of cool downs.

Any suggestions as to how to get the upper hand on mediocre PvP Rangers? I know if they are good, a Warrior doesn’t stand a chance.

"Warriors are viable"

It is the viability of the Warrior in the tPvP and solo sPvP queuing.

Yes, the Warrior might be amazing against foes that don’t understand their class and ours, but if you run into someone who actually has a idea about his build/our build then it is not even a fight.

I am not saying Warrior can not do good in sPvP solo hot join games. I am saying we can do well if the other players are bad. There should not be a stipulation onto what the other person can, or can not, do for how effective our profession can be. It should be in our hands, so that even if two players meet and are evenly skilled it is a close fight. Not a slaughter that it is right now.

Even if a Warrior is played very well a mediocre Mesmer can kill you without to much trouble. Same for Ranger/Guardian/Necromancer/Thief. Engineer is the only other class that suffers, not to the same extent, from the same thing.

Bringing the professions up to par with one another should be one of the top priorities for this game, but it is taking a back seat at the moment so they can push out more content. All the while the PvP is getting more and more like a giant Ranger/Mesmer/Thief convention.

The fact that another profession only has to spam chill/cripple to take the Warrior out of a fight is both sad and pathetic.

sorry i didnt see if you want 1 class allowed per paid team so warrior will be more viable or not that is what this post is about.

you should reply either yes 1 class per paid team allowed will make warriors more viable or no i think they should keep nerfing everything to kitten until warrior ends up being the op class.

I believe they need to fix the balance between the professions before they start making any changes to the maps/team compositions. It is not that I don’t agree with your statement, I just feel that if the classes were actually on par and all viable in each given field, to a extent, this would not even be a problem.

My opinion about the Mesmer

I don’t play a necromancer so try not to assume things. I play the lack luster Warrior in PvP and Thief when I want to be OP.

Truth is the Mesmer is Over Powered still even though the only two true nerfs you have had (no phantasmal/clone on dodge and the confusion nerf) were needed. The Mesmer is still out of line compared to the other classes.

Yes, I discussed with him the viability of the Warrior in the PvP forums. Warriors are not the top viable burst nor bunker (nor second/third/fourth).

I agree that I would love to see changes to the Warrior so they can contend with the rest. I enjoy the Warrior class and I have high hopes as to what it will become, but as of right now it is depressing in tPvP.

“We have almost 0 builds outside of Greatsword Frenzy that will work in tPvP and even the Greatsword build isn’t good for tPvP when you consider other options available to you in terms of the other classes.”

HOLY Cow, it says when compared to other classes…. man. Even still, my point stands. Warriors are less viable than the other professions. You are hindering yourself and your team if you choose to roll Warrior over another class in tPvP.

Also, it helps to read pasted the first and second line.
