People have already ran these dungeons a million times over, and doing anymore is just repetitive and boring.

That’s why I enjoyed Molten Facility, Aether Retreat, and SAB, unfortunately they are only temporary content, which kills any kind of fun this game can have. It’s been a year, we need some new permanent stuff.

So you can do Molten, Aether and SAB a million times too?

I hoarded 4 storms at one time

DO you know how many players have several of the same precursor in their banks?

I am repeating same things over and over….

but more than anything dev post about precursor is OUTDATED and can be interpreted to be true even without denying market manipulation.

He is smart to say monopoly is impossible…
But being an economist i really tend to see him as biased when i look an economy where most skilled players have to farm and give a hige part of their gold to people playing TP minigame that are rich to the point of not having anything other to do with their golds than flip.

What exactly is this bias that our resident economist has? What does he have to gain with his bias?

Anet do have a bias in keeping the image of this game to be pristine. Recently, Anet asked one of their Dev not to speak to GW2 community for opinion while developing. It was reported on Reddit as well as the Dev’s blog post (explanation for cease interaction). It went on to talk about image of the game, etc etc.

I disagree that it’s to keep the image that this game is pristine. We know it’s not, the forums are all about it, we know. What they wanted to keep in check was that communication would be professional, which is what every company, not only Anet, does. That’s why they have publicists or they release official statements. No company likes off-hand or casual remarks as they can be used against them later on.

We have already seen that in terms of the economy, Anet is willing to conceded that there are some concerns. E.g. Murdock last year stating that precursor prices were higher than intended (and we will get a fix for that a year later ;}), or when John Smith already outlined that they are aware of gold inflation but have mechanisms to combat it (which they brilliantly did)

So based on hearsay, with no evidence, we are supposed to believe exactly what?

From what I’m understanding is, that we are supposed to believe in a theory with no solid proof of said theory.

Seems pretty logical to me……

@Max, about Vol, that’s pretty funny, but Vol is also a genius when it comes to the TP. I equate Vol to Chuck Norris in market speculation.

I’am but no means a genius with the TP. I’m a speculator, not a flipper. I simply don’t have the time to watch the market like I was managing a mutual fund.

But I think I do a good job at forecasting, which is related to my job, which is why I speculate 3-12 months in advance when I can ;3

Also on sigil/runes:

-Have you ever considered introducing a system where you can opt to have a higher amount of stat A while also introducing a penalty for Stat B?
E.g. right now we have a sigil that gives 5% more damage. Would introduce a rune that would give 10% more damage but take 5% more damage?

While I don’t care about conditions, I know there are others too. That being said, I’m hoping you may address this;

-Are you still looking at a way to have conditions stack past 25? AFAIK the last response indicated that this is a technical hurdle and fixing it would be difficult since it is a network issue
-Are there any plans to have conditions work on mobs that are considered structures? (i.e. teq, kitten, golem)

I don’t have a pathological need to debate. But I do have a pathological need to point out people who are unreasonable and/or biased.

I’m looking at it like this – I’ve seen few complaints about FSP before the fix. Even ingame I had plenty of compliments on my shield and how it is definitely one of the rarer and better looking legendaries in the game, especially when sheathed.

And now that we have these legendary fixes, it’s as if “well how about me?” Well isn’t that selfish? Perhaps these legendary fixes were not fixes for legendaries on an individual basis but fixing them to be on-par with the ‘legendary’ status? Meaning, these legendaries are upgraded because Anet wants them to be on par with the tier, not because we want to make them cooler.

I absolutely would love to have my FSP pimped out. Foot trails, a glow instead of a haze, OOC effects, e.t.c.

But I also realize that doing so would elevate FSP to another tier of legendaries. Adding anything more to this off-hand legendary would put it on equal footing to Eternity, which would only create more problems with other people.

For something that cost 2 legendary we’re again getting screw over.
Our aura is gone when we pull out our eternity, we throw default sword instead of sunrise or twilight, lost the ability to choose which to display, and only 1 kind of footfall.
For something that cost 2 legendary it should be way more flashy and freedom to choose which to display with the ability to house separate sigil.

Why not add rainsbow, floating orbs, and a foottrail of pouches of gold? Why not keep adding more stuff to Eternity? It seems you want everything added to it.

In general I absolutely agree that a guild should put themselves first before the community. Need to do missions instead of heading to WvW due to call to arms? By all means. But are you willing to put your guild first at the detriment at the community, in a mode where the whole server is the focus and not guilds?

You are free to do whatever you wish but there are some actions of a guild which will negatively impact the rest of the server in WvW.

Another example, about a few months back there were two guilds in a borderland (not TW) along with a fully upgraded Hills and a paper Bay held by another server. We were going to lose Hills but one guild helped delay the inevitable with their forces (it was going to be capped in 10 minutes). Meanwhile the other guild, even with a commander tag on, went all the way to Bay, despite calls to help for Hills. Why would you want to give up an upgraded hills for a paper Bay which would probably be taken again in 15 minutes? That’s what was asked in map chat. The response? “Because we wanted to, we made our decision”. This guild isn’t a PvE guild, they’re well known and can field their own. Unfortunately it’s a poor strategic decision and they got flak for it for the next several minutes.

I got nothing against GvG, but at the same time if they put in some sort of spvp style gvg arena wouldn’t that take a lot of players out of WvW? That would make WvW worse for a lot of players.

Lets not try to derail this thread. This has very little, if anything at all, to do with GvG.

Introduce GvG and the WvW guilds that are into it will probably spend less time fielding the battle and heading over to GvG.

Assuming Anet makes GvG scores separate from WvW then it’s going to hurt your PPT and ranking.

The reason GvG shouldnt be involved in this thread is specifically because of posts like yours. If you understood how GvG worked you would understand that guilds arent exclusively GvG guilds but WvW guilds who do a bit of GvG on the side. No guild will be 100% into GvG as such WvW would not actually see a drop in activity from the guilds that participate in it since 99% of their time is spent playing WvW and not GvGing.

Also I don’t think I know anyone who actually cares about PPT or ranks anymore…

It’s nice of them as a guild to have contributed to WvW. But one guild on one map doesn’t make a difference. You need pugs to do work as well, and scouts. Not to mention all those not in the guild that help with supply/reps. There is a reason SoR TS is open and many guild channels are open for pugs to join in.

WvW is called WvW because it’s about the server, not the individual guild. The server helped as a whole to get to where it is, so I expect the server as a whole to help defend it’s positions.

here is a question for you

How many hours a day or a week do you put into wvw?? since you said u spend alot of your time doing PVE content. I am asking you this question cause the guild your commenting on puts in 8-15 hours a day, in all timezones.

Just wondering why its ok for you to take hours off to do things to have fun, but its not alright for them to take a single hour and have a open field fight of equal numbers

BTW SOR IS winning by over 100k and will win this match up on coverage alone.So they were not hurting anything

I don’t WvW during the week because I have work. Reset nights (if I can get in) I’m in there for 5 hours. Saturdays/Sundays at least 5 hours each.

I don’t care if TW (or any other guild, I’m not criticizing yours or never did I want to identify you guys) decides to do something over than spend time in WvW. If you choose to do sPvP or PvE instead of WvW, by all means.

But if you’re queued up in a WvW zone I’d hope you’d use that slot for actual wvw’ing. Granted, during that time there were no queues.

I don’t think people would appreciate it if I were to waste a spot in borderlands by being afk, farming krait for scales or toiling in the jumping puzzles. Spots are limited and I understand that.

Vol, with all due respect, how do you know this to be true? Are you an alpha tester? If you’re not, and this is info has been relayed to you – directly from an alpha tester or indirectly – it doesn’t comfort me. A few months ago, I was told a bit more general stuff via via as well regarding an upcoming patch, on which I didn’t act (nor did I want to, but that’s beside the point). But it did concern the economy, I can tell you that.

Other than that: even if they don’t provide all the patch notes, as you say, it would surprise me if they would implement anything to do with the economy at the last hour. That stuff needs testing as well. So anyone stepping up to the forge and having a go at the crossing would have found out it was disabled.

I’m not an alpha tester (or if I was I wouldn’t admit it :P) but looking over the past leaked notes, they were always (from what I recall) class balance changes.

The people who leaked you info with economic implications probably had a relation with those who get previews, i.e. dulfy/mmo/blog sites

I’m fairly certain you are referring to our GvG’s from the other night. If I remember correctly we were winning by 100k+ at that point, on top of that we sent all our non-participating members/spectators to assist. I fail to see how we would fit as a good example for your post.

I think it was a Sunday, so the scores were pretty fresh.

If you sent in your non-participating members then I see that as a welcome compromise. I do remember TW(L) coming over and wiping them near the SE gate

Now what if those players were not enough to wipe them out? What if you had to take your whole guild over there to even have a chance at cleaning up the mess? Would you ever put GvG over a keep (even at T1)?

Here is the flaw in your analysis. Your buddy shows supply lowering and prices rising. The only conclusions you can, and should, draw from that are in regards to price, supply and demand. And frankly, we don’t know enough about demand from that data to even conclude anything solid about demand.

Unfortunately, the conclusions people are trying to draw are elaborate market control conspiracy theories. That is fantasy and conjecture.

I don’t get how J. Smith posting some some little spreadsheet is proof of anything.

That is just you taking someone else’s word for it. Just because it is Johns words, doesn’t make it true. Now, that’s not to say he is a liar or anything since I don’t know the man. However, who is to say he is telling the truth? He could be lying or “fudging” the numbers to quell the concerns in that thread.

The burden is just as much on you to prove that the market isn’t being manipulated (and, no, John’s “proof” isn’t enough). It would be very easy to do with something like a precursor that there are very few of. It’s very easy to dismiss something like this as some crazy old conspiracy theory, but in the end your view of “no market manipulation” is the same thing, fantasy and conjecture.

John Smith is the game’s economist. He’s an employee responsible for the game’s economy and as such is privy to key data. He certainly holds more weight than your average “precursor prices r inflatd” poster here.

You are asking for an entirely different game mode, probably an entire different map for you folks. And then you’d have to design an entire different interface, probably with leaderboards and such. You know how much of an undertaking that is?

Given the rate that PvE content gets produced, I would say that infact it would only take about 2 months for them to set GvG up, if they really wanted it to happen.

But they don’t. They want WvW to be a casual zerg-fest, and all the hardcore and semi-hardcore players to go prop up sPvP.

Why allocate a lot of resources to the smaller playerbase? It’s not efficient. GW2 playerbase is largely PvE and that’s how they release content for it. I bet they even get most of their money from the PvE crowd.

I won’t disagree with the comment since we dont know. What I will say is that the living story is finite content, it isnt reused and it takes quite a large amount of time to create content that is generally eaten up by the masses in a couple of days and then ignored. If you feel this is a great prioritisation of work then we can obviously stop this discussion here. Putting even 1/3 of the amount of development into WvW that has been done to the living story would create a thriving WvW community (that is growing even though we are left at the way side). Even if they simply dedicated another team towards WvW updates and content for at least a couple of months this would be a start and an olive branch to show us, the community, that we aren’t the red headed stepchild that we believe we are.

I agree about the temporary content, and so does Anet. That’s why they are starting to release permanent content, starting with the Scarlet invasions. We can only look forward now and see what they come up with.

They have done a great job at releasing WvW content and QOL changes considering the size of the playerbase and the dev team. They had an overhaul of the WvW interface, the ranks and rewards, new siege mechanics and skills. Now we are looking at a near overhaul of borderland maps. That may seem like a few bullet points but that stuff takes time.

And that’s why I think the GvG proponents are unreasonable. You don’t just come up with GvG stuff in a couple of months. That takes time to plan out, design, test and make sure that when it’s released, the majority of the GvGers don’t come out and whine how terrible it is.

Sure the best solution is to just keep all the devs as is and hire an entirely new team but in the corporate world that just doesn’t happen unless you’re a blue chip firm.

How can you confirm that GW2 playerbase is largely PvE?

One sure thing is PvE and casual players put more money into gem store.

Anet will never confirm the numbers but you can just look for yourself throughout the world @ the # of people in towns, doing metas, doing dungeons, LS, e.t.c.

I’m sure there are PvE players that do WvW on the side (such as I) but I’m talking about hours dedicated. I’m sure there are more hours dedicated to PvE than WvW on each server.

Whereas over on the forum I mentioned earlier, two threads dominate the board, both containing giant leaks obtained via alpha testers regarding the next patch notes. With screenshots included.

They don’t release patch notes to alpha tests that involve the economy. It only involves class/trait/mechanic changes.

There have only been 2-3 giant patch leaks (probably both from Sacrx) and they haven’t contained anything extraordinary

I got nothing against GvG, but at the same time if they put in some sort of spvp style gvg arena wouldn’t that take a lot of players out of WvW? That would make WvW worse for a lot of players.

Lets not try to derail this thread. This has very little, if anything at all, to do with GvG.

Of course it has to do with this thread, how can not miss it?

Introduce GvG and the WvW guilds that are into it will probably spend less time fielding the battle and heading over to GvG.

Assuming Anet makes GvG scores separate from WvW then it’s going to hurt your PPT and ranking.

People got banned because of the relation with the leaked patch notes. If you guys fail to understand that then that’s your loss.

I really don’t care for Sacrx and don’t put him on a pedestal. 250,000 kills? All you need is
1.) A relatively organized guild to field sufficient numbers (+20).
2.) Time
3.) Be a staff guardian

Now I known of Red Guard since WAR but I’m sure as hell won’t want Anet to pander to one person’s opinion. That’s the worst thing they can do.

I personally don’t care of the GvG but it also doesn’t help that many of the most vocal proponents are immature and annoying. I watching the patch stream and having to deal with well over two dozen people spamming GvG related messages. You think that helps your community? You think you are going to get support from those who don’t care for GvG, let alone get support from the same developers who have the capability of designing something? I sure as hell wouldn’t want to partake in a community that does that. But of course, I’m sure it’s a minority. There are proponents that support GvG. But you guys are totally unreasonable.

Anet has already said that they know there is demand for GvG. They are not ignoring you. But the WvW team is responsible for WvW. Not GvG. They most likely have plans on what is coming out in 6 and 12 months. How disruptive is it to put that aside for GvG? You are asking for an entirely different game mode, probably an entire different map for you folks. And then you’d have to design an entire different interface, probably with leaderboards and such. You know how much of an undertaking that is? That kitten doesn’t get built up in a few months.

I agree that the WvW team should design stuff for WvW, not GvG. Even if it comes to the detriment to GvG. Again, it’s not their job to focus on that.

Joining a party gives more drops only because the amount of damage you have do in order to tag a mob is shared with your party.

More tags = more drops.

I call shenanigans on this. In my experience being in a group or not doesn’t affect a single thing as far as drops go.

Unless some one has some hard proof saying otherwise I don’t buy it.

I depends a lot on your class and the situation. Getting a group wouldn’t change anything, loot related, if you’re attacking a single strong enemy (a champion, for example), or maybe if you’re fighting large groups of mobs but you have a class that already has spammable AoE attacks that can tag and damage large group of mobs already (for example, staff guardian, flamethrower engineeer).

Class doesn’t really matter. What matter is damage done (as a %) and the number of players doing damage.

Champs have a % threshold where you need to do a certain amount of dmg to get loot. Let’s say it’s 5%. The more people, the harder it gets to get that amount. What will help is a party, since party damage is lumped together as one entity, as long as everyone in the party has tagged the champ at least once.

Playing on SOR I have learned a lot about what a good server does to win fights. On SOS it was clear, other than TSYM, none of the other guilds I saw had a clue. I feel pretty confident with our our teams can take on odds of nearly 2:1 and wipe you all. I don’t see SOS applying the same builds or strategies to fights. I get the feeling a lot of people are not even running good builds, let alone using their team buffs effectively.

That’s what TSYM was build to do… other guilds are just build to “destroy noobs” or whatever. We were founded on the premise of breaking down classes and trying to use them as effectively as possible, in addition to forming superior battlefield tactics. Its not that it’s necessarily a only way to do things, although I would certainly argue that it’s a more sustainable path. Good leadership and with well defined goals can definitely go a long way, and it’s the primary reason why we were able to launch 50 people on FFXIV, and probably a whole lot more than that on Wildstar and ESO.

BTW for those of you keeping track, TSYM will be back to GW2 in December. We’re just enjoying a nice vacation and hoping for some solid WvW updates in the time being.

Ah, thank you very much. Earlier I was just looking at Amulets at the Laural Merchant and noticed that. I guess that’s not exactly armor, but still a stat booster. So, it seems folks can continue to choose between better stats and better loot.

Utility infusions are just that, utility. They all provide benefits for the character alone that don’t imapct anyone else. So you don’t have the option of choosing personal boosts or damage/defensive. Your only choice is what personal boost you want.

We need more of these light hearted messages. Letting them know that the game is great, but of course there is room to improve still. Instead of focusing on the bad with hate and whips and flogging and all our focused attention to attempt to slave drive them into oblivion.

And even if the game is not great, here is what I would say

“Hey Colin, I’m really, really disappointed with the way this game is turning out. I really wanted it to be like X but it seems the direction the game is going far from that. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Anet employees themselves. I watched an intern that had the Anet tag selling names he had locked up once. He asked in guild chat if we wanted them then spammed LA. That may not be as bad as insider trading, but just shows what they will do and I wouldn’t put it past some of them.

Every time this happens I sincerely apologize and try to make sure I re-adjust my attitude towards my communication style.

I thought I was getting better at this skill but I got another one of those talks this morning. I can’t go into any details except to say that I am not getting good enough at this skill. I was hoping that I could find a way to follow the rules (Which I agree exist for good reasons) while still maintaining my personality when posting. I guess I cannot. I think my basic personality is simply incompatible with the diplomacy necessary to protect my company and co-workers. So even though I’m getting responses like these

I’ve spent over $1,000 on the game and gem store, and I’m pretty content with the game as it is. Complaining won’t get me anywhere, and I don’t come up with some mind-blowing solution to x or y problem every day. Nobody does. These are highly controversial issues which people bring up: the equivalent of gay marriage or abortion here in GW2. My money goes to make content, hire new designers and better the game. I’m happy in knowing that, and that’s all that matters. A dev can’t simply say, “Idea!” and have 100% support either. There will always be naysayers who feed on responses from their claims and complaints. The best thing to do is not to ignore them, but read and verify that they aren’t making an attempt at a valid point and move on. ArenaNet Devs are people too. They suffer from the same controversy and affairs that we on the forums go through every day.

Just be kind, and pay it forward. Maybe your ideas will make it into the game someday, but this “I want it now” stuff has to stop for the betterment of the community and the forums. Peace.

Champions need to be more powerful

Currently all champions are to weak, in frostgorge sound all champions die quicker than you can do enough damage to get loot of them. I suggest either making them more powerful or randomizing their respawn time, so people cant camp them.

That’s because they’re not event champs, they’re static ones, so it’s not scaleable. If you’re not doing enough damage, join a party or join a lower-pop server.

Not even sure why you are complaining about this. They’re not impeding you in any way.

And if you do participate in the farm, you wouldn’t even be doing it if you randomize champs, so you’re only hurting yourself as well.

Sometimes there’s no constructive criticism to offer.
Sometimes it comes down to a difference of opinion. If I want to see a movie and my wife wants to go shopping, she’s driving and goes to the mall, I can complain but there really is no constructive criticism I can offer. She perfectly executed a trip to the mall.

However, its reasonable for me to complain (to a degree it can go too far) that we didn’t agree to go to the mall, or that I don’t want to be here. I think it’s reasonable even if I bought the car but she pays for the gas.

Guild Wars has been the only MMO to really come out for a year (I think). Once there’s an alternative to check out people will look at it and stay gone, or come back and be happier with what they have. Right now everyone is trying to shoehorn this MMO into their ideal game.

Exactly, I think there is a ton of people who come to this game with the expectation that it is going to be like every other MMO.

A great example is expansion content. Anet is trying to do something different from expansions and that’s through Living Story. Forumites hate it since they’re not used to content trickling in – they just hate change. But of course, we know based on the metrics that Anet has provided us, people are playing more and more, and that to me shows that it’s a success.

Legendaries are a stupid concept. The only reason I would aim for one is to vid myself deleting it.

They are all ugly or common and have a redeeming value that has been easily neutralized by gem exchange and the crappy time:luck:money:reward ratio.

Pretty weapon. Pretty bad concept.

Yes, because a lot of legendary holders have enough disposable income to drop +$1500 on a legendary.

I’m sure there are enough of those people in game to make you worry.

Its more around $600.

Oh yeah I forgot about the gold/gem rates in the past month.

This is absolutely awful! I feel terribly for him. No one should be made to feel this way when they pour their heart and soul into something. And people wonder why we’ve stopped getting feedback of any kind on here. The forum community is simply toxic! Honestly, I wouldn’t blame anet if they simply pulled the plug on the game and told us all to gfy.

People blame Anet for not being transparent and being open with the community.

Well, what’s the benefit of that when the community responds to innocent and neutral comments with snide and rude remarks? What’s the benefit when any type of positive, hopeful remark is not met with excitement, but suspicion, hesitation and sometimes indifference.

I’m very surprised a guy like Colin just seems like he’s made of unicorns and lollipops. The guy is impervious to criticism and hard to troll (as many people here attempt to), and I respect him for it. But other folks aren’t as much and you can almost see the cracks in their attempts at maintaining a professional and neutral face. It doesn’t surprise me how some Anet devs have not even bothered posting on the forums (like Whiteside), probably because they know just how bad it is here.

Fine, you want to talk about digital products?

How about when it comes to software that gets released in one year and a new version comes around? You don’t get free upgrades.

You don’t get a free upgrade from Word 2007 to Word 2010. Nor do you get a free upgrade from Cubase 6 to Cubase 7.

You committed to purchasing an item that time because you were enticed by it’s current features.

And now that there is a no version, you think it’s fair to go to the company and demand your version gets free upgrades as well? Well at what point does this stop? What if I had Cubase 1. Could I demand upgrades each time they had new editions, all the way to Cubase 7? It’s unfeasible.

This is the purpose of this thread— FSP didn’t get upgraded to the same specifications of most of the current legendary weapons. Therefore creating aggravated players. Some players would just simply leave the game. Others who feel very very passionate about their progress would demand answers, post petitions, rally others who share similar views, and go to the very extreme to set things straight.

If I were to speculate with my handy dandy tinfoil hat, I’d say that the artist who designed the Flameseeker Prophecies shield must be a very defensive person in an artistic sense. He/she probably said, “you touch my shield and I’m quitting my job!” and that person is probably much higher up in the corporate chain. This is probably a person that doesn’t appreciate artistic derivatives very well, even those made from his/her fellow co-workers. If that’s the case, then I’d have to say that he/she shouldn’t be part of a company that can and will take their own artwork and transform it into a different style to fit the atmosphere of the game. I hate to see this person’s face if Anet decides to make 8-bit derivatives of their current legendary weapons to be available to those who religiously play the SAB component of the game.

That’s your subjective opinion vs the art team. In the update preview with Lindsey she said that they sat with the art team and reviewed all legendaries, and decided that some were already up to par with legendary status while some were not. And they updated those that were not.

And I agree that FSP is up to par. It has a very bright shine to it (similar to cobalt), with a haze surrounding the edges of the shield. AND it has pages turning when unsheathed.

What more do you want? white footfalls? Oh how about a book trailing as an additional footfall? How about a reflective skin just like juggernaut? Maybe graphical effects when you attack?

I’d like that too but we can go on and on and pimp out this one legendary to the point that Sunrise and Twilight holders reek of jealousy. Be reasonable here.

Seriously, I did not hear many complaints about FSP before the update. The only complain I know of is the annoying effect of guardian’s aegis on blocking the pages.

But hey, it’s all subjective, so we’ll just keep going in circles.

It’s not about whether a legendary looks cooler than a exotic, that’s just a matter of opinion. Legendaries are all about having “more”, more particles, more extreme models, foot steps, the works.

That is why when people invest in a legendary, they ask for it to be brought up to par, because it’s a legendary, it’s not alright for a legendary to be lacking all the extra particles and fluff, that’s what makes it a legendary and not a unique exotic weapon skin.

“brought up to par” is subjective.

FSP was the best looking legendary before legendary overhauls. Now people hate it for not being updated. What can you not like about FSP?

My opinion is that if you made it before the patch, you were obviously satisfied as is. Asking for anymore changes may or may not be met, and you shouldn’t have those expectations.

Furthermore, legendaries that got updated STILL have complains, like Meteor. You can never satisfy everyone.

It’s as if Anet should have just left everything as is.

You can complain all you want as long as it’s constructive. Non-constructive criticism doesn’t get you anywhere. It doesn’t help the devs diagnose the problem since you’re not specific and you don’t want to help them provide solutions.

Notice how Josh Foreman doesn’t post anymore since the sab w2 release? I remember reading how he said that he was very eager to work on W2 and very excited to come in early and do work, or stay late and continue to work.

You have to have pretty high work ethic, dedication and excitement for your work to have that kind of mentality.

And what did he get for it? Non-constructive criticism that SAB is just terrible. AND the playerbase gives him attitude and overreacts as if Foreman was offending them. It must be very unforgiving to be a designer in the game industry, be very open to it and still be able to be positive. I kind of hate how gamers, especially MMO players, have some sort of entitlement and gamer’s rights, so much that they kitten on the same very people that provided them with entertainment that was well worth their time and money.

And now we have a designer who probably doesn’t feel as motivated and probably won’t pull in the extra time to make content that is epic. Granted, Anet themselves discourage crazy hours (as he said), but it is disheartening when a dev loses that type of motivation because of these forums which are full of negative nancies they don’t provide anything close to constructive criticism.
