Basically what I’m reading is that you want the end-game rewards without the appropriate effort or time.

They are highly valued for a reason. If you refuse to value them with your time then you don’t deserve it.

I don’t think you get the skin itself, you get scraps/tokens which you exchange.

I really don’t suggest you gamble for the skin. Zodiac skins are selling for cheap right now on the BL post. Just convert gems to gold and buy them outright.

Im very confused and kinda irked about the new content.
Why? Cause somethings lacking in that reveal.

http://dulfy.net/2013/08/31/gw2-pax-anniversary-bash-coverage/

Has chance to drop Ascended weapon, with a brand new reskin that are exclusive to Tequatl, and you can get a mini version of Tequatl as a rare drop!

Why isnt this mentioned in the presentation of this new content?
Have they scraped it?
They always flaunt new gear in their update previews, so was the thing they said on PAX a joke?
Im not gonna be happy if it is, not because of the Ascended rarity of the weapon itself but because i was really looking forward to more death themed weapons.

You really are overanalyzing. Just cause they don’t mention a specific feature doesn’t mean they scrapped it.

WvW: Season 1 vs PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.5241

A far bigger issue is Guild vs Guild in WvW.

Essentially big guilds are organising big open field battles in WvW, particularly at the weekend.

So they are not interested in scoring points just open field combat. The BIG PROBLEM is they lock out all players who want to WvW for there server, like me.

Last weekend I queued for hours (6+) on both Saturday and Sunday to get in Eternal Borderlands, no success and that was because a big guild vs guild was hogging Eternal Borderlands all weekend…

GvG almost always are sheduled in borderlands due to lower populations there. EBG is usually the goto for pugs and makes it difficult for queues.

On the Plummeting Value of Lodestones

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

I think charged lodestones were ridiculously out of sync with the prices of other lodestones. I think a reasonable price is somewhere in the range of 1 to 1.5 gold. I applaud Anet for increasing the supply of them.

Why should they? The drop rate and the # of mobs in game that drop that specific lodestone are probably the same as any other lodestone. Drop rate/supply is not the contributing factor to Charged Lodestone’s price.

I reckon it is largely based on demand, considering the numerous, highly-regarded items that use Charged Lodestones.

You may want to pay only 1 to 1.5G but there are many more buyers out there who are willing to pay much more than you do, and the suppliers are more than happy to sell to them.

WvW: Season 1 vs PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.5241

I’m not sure how much of a difference the PvEers make when they take up player slots in WvW, or if it’s enough to matter. But with the stakes for winning at WvW going up, are we actually okay with this conflict? Is ANet?

Neglible. It will be a non-issue. 1 player doing PvE won’t make a difference.

What worries me is that it may not be just one person. Maybe there’s five. Or ten. It’s hard to tell how many are in there at any one time.

I have yet to do world completion on any of my characters, but I intend to. It bothers me to think that I may be depriving someone of their chance to play or win at WvW to do so, though. So, I hope you’re right and it won’t matter.

And thanks for the info on the sugar pumpkins. I’ll be keeping my eyes out for them.

If you are so worried about it, don’t do your PvE stuff during prime time. So on weekdays, try to do everything before 8:00. Especially on fridays, do not PvE after reset (9:15). Thursdays/Friday before reset are usually good since match-ups are decided and WvW activity dies down.

I don’t expect it bellow 100. Anything up to say 300-400g is sort of reasonable. But yeah, it would be a bit concernning what would happen to the T6 market, as suddenly many more people will demand T6 mats…

Personally I wouldn’t mind t6 mats selling for 30s a piece ;D

500 rupee water flippers

your welcome

I never had to grind for rupees, just got them playing normally. was it even possible to not have enough rupees for the flippers? I usually played rather slowly, exploring everything, so it might’ve been just my playstyle rewarding me with more than enough rupees.

I did have to grind for baubles though. after getting decent at w1z1 tribulation I just ran that a few times, as you always get the 200 baubles. it’s not too much of a hassle but still completely unecessary grind. I still need the new purse and the nunchucks but just can’t get myself to grind that much.

No you don’t have to grind. It’s your choice to keep running w1z1 trib.

I highly doubt it. They are probably just refined to be properly scaled and new mechanics. Nobody has time for all the bosses in the world if they take 15 minutes to complete.

But they should be that challenging. They are “world” bosses. Their elite status should be preserved by notorious difficulty. World bosses these days are farmed like dogs xD

If they are too challenging, no one will do them. Go look at Teq, karka queen (on low pop servers), balth pre-patch, e.t.c.

Exquisite Opal Jewel buy out?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

Ascended trinkets are already easy to get through many ways in the game. They wont ever be able to be crafted^^. Do speculators even got a brain?

We already know legendary trinkets are coming out this year with visual graphics.

So yes, I do have a brain. Do you have eyes/ears?

Vol, thanks for this link, that’s a great interview.
I focused on what Colin said on this point. The interviewer, Matt, rightly referred to Anet’s quote on the coming of new types of “legendary gear”. Matt then speculated it would be legendary trinkets. Colin then said it would be one type of new legendary item that would be introduced this year, so as to not make it too difficult on the players to catch up with the new gear. Now comes the important part: Colin said it could be something like amulets, rings, acessories or backpacks.

The interesting about this is: backpacks had not been mentioned by the interviewer. Yet Colin mentioned backpacks. Not quite sure what would be needed to craft backpacks, since we can’t craft those yet. But it might not involve a single opal or jewel. While it is very likely that it would be covered by the jeweler craft, given that the backpack is right next to the trinkets on your screen, it could also be covered by every single craft in the game. Cool flying dragon backpack by armorsmithing, cool rainbow phoenix by weaponsmithing, etcetera. That approach would really make sense, in my view, as it further encourages players to the many crafts this game has to offer.

To sum up, we just don’t know whether a legendary trinket (amulet/accessory/ring) will be introduced; it might just as well be a backpack – for which the crafting mats are a completely unknown. To speculate this hard that a new legendary trinket is coming is taking quite a chance, in my view.

That’s the fun of investing. It’s about managing risk. The great thing here is that we 100% know:
-that it is confirmed to be one of those 4, and 3/4 are accessories so there is a good chance that it will be an accessory.
-it is coming before the end of the year
-Accessories are made by jewelers, which rely on crystals/orbs

From that, I speculate that crystals/orbs could be a key source, considering they are t5/t6 mats. And mirroring legendary weapons, you need a lot of all T6.

And the best thing yet is that investing in crystals/orbs is very, very low risk. Many are near vendor price. So if it doesn’t pan out, I can sell directly to the vendor.

The only loss is opportunity cost.

I’m sorry, but if I do the highest level heart, what do I get? Maybe 3s??? If I do an event, I often get nothing but a puny amount of karma. Where exactly should I get some in-game money? Nobody… ok, pretty much nobody… does the temples in Orr anymore. I wish they would. Those offer great loot and I found the few I did to be loads of fun. But there are very, very, very few times that I find anyone doing anything around the temples. And even if they are, they sure don’t talk about it. I map ask first thing if any events happening, and I never get a response. I am on Isle of Janthir server.

So, Frostgorge champ train and the odd world boss are the only ways I can get anything good. I don’t have a dungeon group. I hate jumping puzzles. PvP stuff can’t be used anywhere else or sold. WvW is ok once in a while but for me the WPs are too far from the action usually, which means if I die I have to run for 5 mins alone to try to get back to the fight, usually get murdered in the process by roaming PvPers.

So, I do not agree with this suggestion to nerf or limit champ loot. It’s fine as it is since nobody getting hurt. If you don’t want to participate, then don’t. Just like it’s my choice not to participate in other areas of the game that I don’t enjoy. Also, the stuff I salvage and sell on the TP is obviously needed/wanted, since it is purchased within moments of listing! So… maybe I’m helping other players and myself at the same time??!!

You either have not checked Orr since the last update or you have a dead server. People actively complete these temples for Dragonite Ore.

They changed kit/conjured weapon damage to scale with the highest available weapon months ago. Then they release a new tier of weapons which it scales to like its supposed to. Then they turn around and call that scaling a bug… Yeah keep spinning.

So then it was a bug. The damage boost was unintended and now they fixed it. Are you just creating steam here because you don’t like an unfair damage boost getting fixed?

What lack of constructive criticism? There has been PLENTY of remarks on how to improve the ascended mess already, some dating back from November last year.

Nothing was listened too, all we got was worse and worse implementations. First the Laurel daily gating for necklace, then the stupid idea of locking the earrings behind zerg guild missions, with an “alternate” scam of paying a huge amount of ectos and laurels for them.

And now, as if the complaints about that ecto price for non zerg guild access for earrings was nothing, let’s put the weapons behind a 250g markup price in our savings for the first weapon. All that without ever fixing the stupid idea that 2H weapon costs the same to craft than a single 1H weapon (in the most expensive mats)

And those constructive points ended up devolving into huge whine fests and massive exaggerations like the one you are using. Scam for using ectos? Colin said back then that it was an incentive for people to guild up. If you didn’t want to, then fine, you would have to pay a premium.

Furthermore, I could make up a ridiculous suggestion in a very constructive manner. Just cause you present it in a professional way doesn’t mean Anet needs to listen to you.

I’m glad that Anet didn’t listen about the ascended complaints because the complaints were from a vocal minority (and mainly from casuals)

So what is a “casual” player to you? I can make an assumption through context that you mean it in a disparaging way as someone who does not value the things you do. I would prefer to not make an assumption and hear what your definition is so I can understand the basis of your argument. The problem with using terms like “casual” and “hardcore” is that they are subjective in nature. This makes those terms nearly worthless in determining whether or not a complaint is logical, since they both tend to be used in a biased manner on either side of the fence.

My view of casual player boils down to playtime – someone who does not plan on playing the game for hours upon hours. Probably no more than an hour a day, and no more than 3 hours a week.

So players who have more time but not necessarily more “skill” should be given a statistical advantage?

Why not? It’s the nature of MMOs. You invest more time in a game, you will get more rewards.

Skill in MMOs is pretty much non-existent. The closest thing to skill when it comes to games is fast reaction time and APM, and that’s not important in MMOs.

Well “skill” for mmorpgs comes in different forms, between knowing strategies to the most effective builds to knowing how to play said build in traditional mmorpgs. But by your definition dodging and using active defenses when appropriate are not important to success in GW2? If I am not mistaken this is what has led to all the proclamations of berserker gear being the only “viable” set in pve since if you miss a dodge or some other active mitigation you will often be one shot regardless of gear. So someone can show “skill” versus let’s say simply auto attacking in a zerg as an example. Now what about the WvW players, who can only play for a few hours a week but are highly “skilled” at beating their opponents, it’s still ok for the people with time to have a statistical advantage?

I should preface that I expect the average GW2 user to have average reaction times. They know when to dodge in CoE for example, or dodge on Lupi’s telegraphs. So I really don’t equate that with skill.

WvW is not largely about gear, so minor statistical advantages are irrelevant. I bet ascended weapons will not make any noticeable difference. More often than not WvW is about coordination and numbers, and that’s not a really high skill set.

Coordination is merely going on voice coms and working together with a goal. You don’t need skill there. Numbers are self-explanatory.

Now, skill is different than strategy, and strategy sure is important in WvW. Strategy IMO sets apart the elite guilds and the average guilds. Knowing when to push, how to push, what skills to use, e.t.c.

And even if you were to consider that skill – who exactly has it? Does everyone who is running with the commander have it? Or is it just the commander?

And you have your reason why some of us appreciate efforts to disperse easy farming.

You make it sound like that’s as easy as pushing a button.

You nerf what we’re farming, we’ll just go on to the next one. You nerf that, we’ll go to the next one.

And then the hardcore farmers will find the most efficient way to make gold either way. Maybe that involves doing those events, maybe chain-event farming, maybe dungeons. And then people will still complain about what they do.

I don’t know why people want to stop these champ trains. It’s a player choice. No one is forcing you to go there and join in.

It’s as if people keep checking in at these hardcore farmers and want to nerf every single thing that they are doing just because.

Farming doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

Farmers rake in huge amounts of rewards, and in a very short time have their characters maxed out in all the best stuff. ANet looks at that, thinks, “We have to keep these kids in game with something” and introduces new things for them to chase, scaling the requirements to suit a farming income.

The rest of us look at the new BiS gear, and realize that if we play the game “normally”, it will take months and months to get back to BiS, and realize that the only way to get back to a completed character in any sort of reasonable time frame is to go join the farmers killing Champs in little, endless circles, or hopping from “meta boss” to “meta boss” at the dictate of the timer websites, or running the easiest dungeon ad nauseum.

Farming warps the game design because the game starts to be designed around keeping the farmers going.

Either a developer works to steer the farmers into doing a variety of activities, or develops the game with farming as the norm against which material requirements and token costs are balanced.

You are fighting a losing battle if you’re a casual and end up forcing yourself to follow farmers to chase your goal. Farmers will always be in MMOs, that’s 100% guaranteed. Maybe you need to revisit your goals in the game and revise your schedule. In a dynamic world in MMOs it is impossible to balance rewards for casuals and hardcore (farmers)

How about increase the loot quality from a box proportionate to the amount of time the champ has been around?

10minutes: generic loot
30minutes good loot (i.e. chance at yellow)
1hour : good loot plus T7 mat
90minutes: great loot plus T7 (chance at orange)
2hours: best loot plus T7 (better chance for exotic, equivalent to how loot currently is)
1day+: same as 2hours, but increased chance for precursor.

Then people who play prime time get less loot than those who play during off-peak hours. Not exactly how you want to segment rewards.

Instead of an artificial time gate, why not just move the boxes off Champions and to the successful completion of events, instead?

The larger, more difficult the event, the better the box.

Lets see what would happen
-people would continue to ignore champs and focus on killing off easier mobs for loot, defeating the whole purpose of risk/reward
-end-game, difficult events would be focused on and no one would bother doing any other event on any other map
-hardcore farmers would probably find the most efficient route and ignore all other events
-people would tag an event, kill a few mobs, then hop off to the next event and hope the remaining people will finish it for credit

You mean the stuff they do anyway.

Maybe the better alternative would be to add the boxes to events, in addition to already being on champs. Then, scale the boxes for both champs and events according to their difficulty. We would need some additional support to handle up-scaling of event more so than what we have now. We would also need some tweaking to downscaling of players for the lower levels zones – not only downscaling their skills and level, but also the armor, weapon, and strength of traits. This way decked out level 80s are more “truly” lvl 3 or 4 again (for example), then when the lower end events (like QD) scale up, its actually becomes a challenge again (no 2 hitting the foes).

This would potentially allow for some people to split off from the zerg, as some will prefer champion hunting while others prefer event hunting. It would give a little more in the way of options.

And then the hardcore farmers will find the most efficient way to make gold either way. Maybe that involves doing those events, maybe chain-event farming, maybe dungeons. And then people will still complain about what they do.

We already had too many farm nerfs.

Limit Champion Boxes to 20 per day

Vol.5241

Vol.5241

1800 gems for a server transfer? Why!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

There were free transfers when the game launched. People would transfer to another server to spy on their WvW rivals.

Huh. I never heard of even a single verified case of that – just a bunch of the usual troll suspects on the forum saying “Yep, that’s what I’d do” whenever it was brought up.

That’s cause it looks like you never stepped in the WvW subforum.

You people are so ignorant. Its about balancing the economy. More money in the game makes prices go up. altough it seems that youre richer than before, you are not. What 100g was worth is what 200g is now.

Before you label people ignorant, please understand what inflation is and what contributes to it in GW2.

Just because you like the game doesn’t mean you like all aspects of the game. the forums are a public place for people to discuss the parts of the game they like or dislike, and come together with others that share that opinion. since we are all here we clearly like the game on some level. but to think that everyone who posts negatively, hates the game seems as silly as thinking anyone who posts positively thinks the game is absolutely perfect.

I think it has to do more with the lack of constructive criticism. So the forums are full of filth that is fully of complaints with no basis, direction or solution. And I think those posts deserve to be scrutinized(which I do often)

I would still like Charged Lodestone to be slightly cheaper though. It’s currently bouncing between 1g98s to 2g ish. Too many things I want need Charged Lodestones and they’re simply too hard to farm for.

Well I’m sure we all want lodestones for free. Fact is the price discrepancy between charged and the rest of the lodestones is due to demand.

1800 gems for a server transfer? Why!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.5241

Greed. Pure and simple.

ESPECIALLY since it’s 1800 ($22.50)/1000 ($12.50)/500 ($6.25), forcing you to buy amounts of gems that they don’t actually sell (they only sell in batches of 800 ($10.00), 1600 ($20.00), 2800 ($35.00), 4000 ($50.00), and 8000 ($100.00) and only actually involves changing one or two values (home World and, sometimes, the World you’re guesting on) in the player’s profile and, assuming character data’s actually kept on the Worlds’ servers and not just on the central server used for logins and such, performing a data copy to the new World – tasks which would be trivial to automate (give me access to the code and I could do it in under 10 minutes, I bet).

Greed!?!

More like balance. Server hopping should be a no-no in WvWvW.

I prefer people hop servers over dead wvw servers

Hopping servers has turned out to be worse than dead wvw servers.

At least now you can choose between competitive zerg-servers and a more strategically oriented low-tier servers. The stable wvw environment is much better, compared to the bandwagony hopapalooza.

If I hear people on the top server waiting for hours in que, i’d transfer in a heartbeat to a lower one. kitten nus and league items but you can play.

Sometimes the battles are way more epic in t1 than in the bottom tiers that makes the wait worth it.

And the only time you wait for hours on queue is on reset night

Mindless zerging > mindless posting with “solutions”. The game rewards need to be increased up to the level of champs, not champs brought down to the level of garbage.

Stop trying to bring others down when they’re not hurting anything

Was j/k and partly trolling. Sadly many took it too seriously. I just can’t believe anyone would suggest more time-gating. Many of my guildies now complain don’t know what to do as all the things are time gated. Because they know no matter how hard they try, they won’t get ascended weapon before 2 weeks. I feel like some of them are going to quit in near future.

You make it sound like that’s a long time for an end-game weapon.

Furthermore, another reason why I think the TP will be different is because the items will be different as well. I remember watching an early preview for the Chinese version awhile back and there were slight differences in armors, most likely due to some wierd censorship law.

let alone the economic disadvantage you’d have for new Chinese players entering a well-developed one in NA/EU

You meant the same disadvantage that new NA/EU players are facing when joining the game? New players will do just fine. If anything it was more difficult at launch, because you couldn’t easily exchange your items and materials to what you needed.

It’s different when you have new players trickle in (NA/EU), or you have thousands start playing all of a sudden (China)

I bet if anet charged 1 gem for a mini kitten people here would still call them greedy.

I kind of hate how all my gem purchases early on have pretty much subsidized the game for these kind of players.
