I did 8 orbs as P/D-condi using the traited 16-sec Scorpion Wire as a utility. Orbs on demand!

It’s great for what it can do, but sometimes you have to be smart about when you use it.

I just beat her 8 orbs on my condi P/D thief.

This wouldn’t have been nearly as bad if, and I guess I’ll say it on the forum for at least the fifth time: the red AoE circles weren’t so hard to see, turning off post processing was a requirement for me (MY EYES AUGH), the obstructed thing with the orbs, and having the cool down period of hiking back or waiting for a rez or just waiting in line.

I LIKE the concept of the fight. Graphics and some clunky controls feel, things beyond our direct control, not so much. Bloody frustrating overall.

It took me about 70 or so tickets. Every 10 fights or so I noticed I was getting better and better at dealing with each thing. I’m used to the old brute force method of learning. Yeah, stuff happens. Frequently. I don’t want to see Liadri happen ever again.

At least, not for now, for sure.

It’s been an interesting week with ya Maguuma and Dragonbrand, well, when it wasn’t all daily achievementy and Queen’s Gauntlety or getting the guild commies, but ya interesting.

Like Frozenpants just said, the concept of the fight, EVEN with having to learn it failure by failure, is fun.

The camera, the floor, the obstruction thing, that’s the bloody frustrating bit that sucks the fun out of the whole shebang. Oh, and the ticket thing and the needing a rez or needing to hike back to stand in line to go again, that’s not the awesome either.

I strongly disagree. It IS all about winning. You SHOULD go into your matchup every week and you SHOULD try to blow the other two servers out of the Mists. It SHOULD not matter who you’re against.

The reality is yeah, you get fairweathers, and some of the matchups just get bloody dull or old fast. It is what it is. We can only do the best we can with it. So what if we draw a T1 trip next week? We go. We play. Win or lose, it happens, and we all move on to the next matchup.

That just IS. You play, or you don’t. Everyone SHOULD try to constantly improve, individually and as servers. If a server lets its morale be broken in a matchup, that’s not my server’s problem. The only real reason to back off a server is if it’s somehow more beneficial to your efforts against the third. The only other reason I can think of is that the commander you’re following tells you to back off, so you back off.

You should play and have fun. But you should play hard. I expect everyone else to. Ego and emotion happen, but there’s no mastery traits to spend points on to improve dealing with that.

The race choice is mostly cosmetic, except for a few racial skills that come with the choice. None of them are that much better compared to the class skills. Just go with what you feel best, there are no wrong or right combos.

It all comes down to what you can pull out of your head. You can be a sylvari who loves the great outdoors that is bestest buddies with your fern hound that seemed to have awakened the same time you did. Or a sylvari lost in wonder and so in touch with nature you seem to bend the elements around you.

Ask yourself what you want out of your next character. What kind of playstyle are you hoping for? The more specifics you can come up with, the more informed a choice you can make. That or share your specifics with us, and then we can offer our opinions.

There’s no "better" or "aren’t good". But neither will our answers if that’s all we got to go on.

I kind of think that any build could conceivably do the job, if they didn’t have the floor drop out under you time limit.

You’re using your chosen abilities to their fullest, the same way Liadri is. She’s just so focused with hers, you’d swear she was a machine or something.

I’m happy with my scepter/torch and staff build with Prismatic Understanding and letting the clones do the work on their deaths. I may not be a murder machine, but I do cause no small amount of grief to people chasing me around. It’s extremely survivable, but yeah I miss dependable swiftness something fierce.

Necro is sorta the same way for me. If I can get in tight and start dictating the fight, I’m good to go. If he can dig into me or get a good set of fears in, keep me at a distance, it can go wahooni shaped fast.

Anyway, just like every other class, it’s all about knowing what you can and can’t do and getting the most out of your build while dealing with someone else trying to do the same thing. I just wish everyone would go straight into evaluating why a fight was lost instead of trying to salvage their ego.

Short version, easiest way is to focus your build around dealing with condi-thief. Otherwise, try to foul up C&D.

It’s a bad matchup for most mesmers. Rock scissor paper, all that kinda thing. I’ve had a few surprise me, in a good bad way, but not often at all. Once the thief gets control of the fight, it’s only a matter of time.

It occurs to me, the best way to sum up what’s wrong with all this is, once I got it, I didn’t feel "ha ha yes!" I felt more "grr, how do you like me now, ANet?" I didn’t do it for the fun. I did it out of spite. Grr. Sheesh, I’m still feeling grr.

Beat your head against a wall frustrating. Sure it felt wonderful pulling this off and all, but it’s not a good challenging. My opinion is that it really starts forcing you to respec, maybe regear, just to jump through their hoops. That’s bad challenging. Grr. All that.

Top that off with having to shut down some graphics, not to mention trying to see the red circles during Liadri on a grating floor, grr. Not that I’ve beat her yet, that’s next. Oh, and hoping someone comes by to rez you? Ticket farm?

I’m one of the full carrion P/D & Shortbow happy fun times stealthy bleedy leafy thiefs. Thieves. Whatever. I beat my head against the 5 gambit deal (don’t pick the extra boss) until I stopped trying for 24 hours and it came to me.

I used D/D instead, against Subject 7. No crazy long Revealed in this fight, so Poof Powah!

Signet of Malice for the heals, Caltrops, Shadow Refuge, Spider Venom, Thieves Guild.
Get the Black Citadel charr buff for the extra condi-pain, pizza and agony sigil your way over 75% condi-duration for moooar bleedy.

Shadow Arts V, VI, XI: Blind and +2 Init on stealth, regen in stealth
Acrobatics IV (why not) and IX (2 Init/10 sec)
Trickery V and VIII, moooar Caltrops

I popped Spider Venom right off and Infiltrator’s Arrow right to the blob (for the blind!) and proceeded to make with the Caltrops, elite Thieves, and Death Blossom. Steal for Initiative and hope for awesomeness. I got Pla$ma first.

You can use C&D for a breather if you’re freaking. I did a few times. Eventually I dropped down the Happy Hut for Init and the regen. I did shortbow poison from in the hut, a habit from wvw, not sure if it helped or hurt. Might have helped, since the poison venom had probably worn out… Silly me, not keeping track of 7’s debuffs. Bad thief. Baaad.

I did have to rally 3 times at the end. But you should be bleeding a lot of lil oozies. I did get to steal a 2nd time, gunk worked nice.

I think there’s been enough back and forth generalizations. It’s just a game, not our lives. Try to remember that and enjoy living, and gaming, the next time you think about what’s important.

I’ll say it again here. I’m amazed, in a bad way, that the AoE circles are so hard to spot and the floor is sort of a grating on top of that. Another negative thing is that turning down graphics or whatever that post processing thing is helps. It’s an encounter that gets harder with eye candy enabled? That AUGH GODS MY EYES thing, seriously.

Ignoring those, I will continue to try to overcome. It’s challenging and that’s fun in its own way. I’d rather sort out how to deal with the mechanics. It’s the cosmetics that’s bloody annoying.

I had trouble a few times with actually picking the food up. I was on it but near one of the guys. The screentip said I was good to go, hit F, nada. Eventually I got miffed and swapped to my condi-bleedy necro and used fears to redirect Chomper when necessary.

BLINDING THE PLAYER IS BAD (and can cause headaches, burn eyes and in general maybe some siezures)
Showing the actual aoe indicators (that shouldnt be half in the ground nor should they be the color of the ground) is very important, but visual or audio ques also help a lot.

These two annoy me a great deal. I’m somewhat miffed at the ticket farming, but the gold and flush fodder are great.

Haven’t quite gotten the last fight down, but I feel I’m progressing. Trying to shake this feeling that lately the content has turned into busy work. I had more fun in WvW than achievement chasing.
