[ODIN],[NaCl] – Tarnished Coast
Yes, I know I can turn it off. Thank you.
Still, I’ve never had anything like this ever give me a headache. I must be getting old, heh.
Anyone else getting one heckuva headache from the flicking film effect?
Stealth is one of the thief’s active defenses. If you remove stealth it would cripple the class’ build variety.
The build variety... Well, at least we have several for PvP.
D/P Panic Strike 6-0-2-0-6
D/P Critical Strikes 2-6-0-0-6
S/D Evasion 2-0-0-6-6
Does that count as 2 or 3?
Does the OP want us to play double shortbow 0-0-0-0-0?
Wow. That letter combo tripped the censor. Ha.
Well, I’ll take great pleasure in seeing what happens to engineers once the lamentations on the forum make them jack up another class to appease the trolls.
Thieves -cry-. Stealth -cry-. Backstab -cry-. Infiltrator’s Strike/Return -cry-. Flanking/Larcenous Strike -cry-.
Heh heh heh... just wait. All the Turrets -cry-. What will they focus on next.
Stealth comes from skills that grant it or from combo fields. You’re in stealth until you attack something, gaining revealed, or the duration expires. This is not WoW stealth in that you go in and can stay in while you travel across the world.
Yeah, don’t let them actually hit you, or it goes south REALLY quick.
If the other team is able to get themselves together and execute knockdown chains for 10-15 seconds at a time, more power to them.
I can’t think of anything better to try than having your team mob home, then roll to mid, and then to try to hold those points while trying to catch the engi’s coming back in so they can’t set up to assault those points.
I’m not sure conceding mid was the best idea. Maybe just bite the rocket and take the time it takes to clear mid, meh. Not to be mean, but two rangers and they couldn’t barrage the crates? Glad you weren’t one of the rangers.

5 thieves, shortbows for the shortbus!
I must be playing my terror necro wrong, because it seems like I’m either free casting and wrecking the opposition or doing my best not to get focus gibbed. I see no in between those extremes when I’m running necro.
What was your team’s plan for that game?
It just started me into a 4 v 5 where no 5th guy ever showed for my team.
Been awhile since that’s happened.
But, can’t you see, they’ve improved the necro’s ability to get involuntarily teleported back to spawn.
Fix? If your team is outmanned, fall back to to regroup. That’s the whole thing.
but really i don’t get why no one uses 66020 it seems really strong
Because the current meta builds all have xxxx6.
It makes Steal into a bea$t. Shorter CD and the interrupt daze on top of Thrill of the Crime and Bountiful Theft and more initiative, rawr.
hey. a common misunderstanding about the thief is that you’re supposed to 1v1 people
I started winning a lot more once I quit trying to 1v1 people on far point and started nailing people who were occupied fighting my team at home/mid.
You just need to get a feel for when everything is under control so you can go see if far is open for the decap/maybe cap.
Here’s the thread where I asked for S/D advice:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/S-D-sPvP-Role/first#post4738957
Short version:
- Help your team win fights fast by seeking to +1 fights constantly thanks to your mobility...
- ...or by helping focus down a target, preferably the high DPS squishies.
- Also, you’re mobile, so roamer. You support mid/home as needed, but you can...
- ... Decap FREE=unguarded (far) points, don’t mess with a bunker, takes too long.
There’s a lot of other S/D posts in the forum, so just try to soak up what’s there.
Focus on making fights go +1 in favor of your team. Win the mid fight, help at home if it needs it. You’re only looking to decap far if it’s open. If they have a bunker on it, leave it. That means your team should be 5 v 4 and holding mid/home.
You need to be the swing guy. If they fight at mid, that’s where you want to be. Look to blow someone up to get a number advantage at the fight. If they send some to home, you should use your mobility to get there to help, end that, and get back to mid.
That’s if everyone is playing like they mean it of course. Your experience may vary unranked, hotjoin, and folks just trying to ace their dailys.
This is my least favorite mini game. It rewards focus fire and staying together to do so. All you need is someone clueless on the other team to start running around alone and that’s that.
Didn’t they put 30 minutes as the match timer? My gods, knock that sucker down to 10 minutes tops. It’s not like these are going that long. I have had a few close matches, but it’s usually a meatgrinder once one side loses a person or two.
On the plus side, it’s fast paced with the tiny arena. Thankful for that much.
Yeah, timing really is everything, yours and whoever you’re hitting.
I think guardians have that shieldy/porty/kaboomy thing they can use too. So maybe we’re not quite as alone in burstgasmland?
I started feeling better about things about 150 games in, on each class, if that’s any encouragement.
We both have our points?
And hopefully your teammates have mid. *cheshire grin*
When has withholding information and education to a population ever benefited a society?
If by society you mean only a certain gender of a certain racial type practicing a certain religion, always.
Pale Tree, who else would I be talking about.
Why? It’s bigger and meaner and it takes too hands to swing so it must be cool.
There’s no metaphor here, at all, at least not in the meta.
The house next door doesn’t have a guardian, go ransack that place and then visit your fence.
4,963 hours, no drops.
1 Chaos Gun from my 2nd Mystic Toilet flush ever back in January 2013, made Quip finally January 2014.
I’m on a 5-25 ish run myself as a thief over the past two weeks. I was pretty much .500 forever prior.
It’s got to be me and my lack of focus. Not including that game where the guard went mid alone on Skyhammer and got crushed. Or the one where we got 3 capped while I had 2 people defending their treb... But yeah, the other games, totally me sucking.
On the plus side, there’s been a lot of losses in the neighborhood of 500-350, so we’re not getting rocked, which makes me think it’s probably me.
To me, the Trinity will always be Big Daddy, Junior and the Spook.
I’m goin’ to Hell in a Black Lion Chest.
…there’s a massive amount of crutch durability there that if one becomes dependent on, they become almost incapable of playing anything else.
I’m sure you can beat someone with a crutch, if you try hard enough. And find something to lean on while you’re doing it.
So how can those players learn the class if they use a set that allows that many mistakes and doesn’t require much in terms of timing/weapon set skill use.
Repetition, by making the mistakes and learning from them. The nice thing is, ya usually get to skip the run back from spawn since you don’t die that much. Maybe after they master P/D they’ll start branching out to other sets or other classes. Or they won’t. But either way, practice practice practice.
If nothing else, just snipe yaks all day.
P/D thief, so I’m mostly talking WvW. All I have to do is stay on the real one. If they land their burst or interrupt, I’m just going to Shadowstep or Blinding Powder my way to resetting. If they can’t land one due to skill/burst, then it’s just a matter of time until I wear them down.
So, stay on the real one. C&D off the clones. Watch to dodge the GS push when you use Love Shack.
Mesmer always looks fun, until I play it. You got to look out for the ones hold their interrupts until the best/worst times and the ones that always seem to shatter when I’m trying to C&D off the poofs.
I killed myself with ranger sword 5 times in the same match on Skyhammer while learning what I was doing.
As S/D thief I downed a warrior at Spirit Watch mid last night who was fighting our necro and bailed to assault far. Warrior got him during Vengeance >.<
Next time, I take the extra 5 seconds to spike him myself.
Live and learn. Necro dies, learn faster.
You think that a thief can carry a game. Usually the thief is the liability of the team.
I’ll carry us straight to the bottom. Hell, gravity, the harsh mistress, does most of the work.
Thanks, I’ll work on improving my execution of those tips and practice my mini-map reading.
I seem to suffer from squirrel syndrome, so maybe putting it in writing, er, typing, will help me with my S/D meta thiefness.
Ideally, isn’t my role in a sPvP match to roam? At the start, make sure we win the opening Mid fight and dropping back to help Home if needed. After that, kind of hanging between Mid/Home to help hold them, with popping out to Far to decap when M/H are solid and the other team has people down.
Is that it or am I totally botching it?
Precision hippopotamus for all!
My thief gets smashed all to smitherenes while lighting the fires. I’m extremely frustrated.
I thief solo’d it, but had to use the Stability from Dagger Storm, Shadowstep out-back-in stomp trick, and the shield from Braham to do it.
And I didn’t know until now how to actually kill those Smother guys. That would have made it a lot easier.
If I remember right, the "Timing" buff doesn’t appear until the event begins. It has a countdown timer on mouseover.
then why doesn’t the warrior’s whirling axe reflect projectiles?
Us thieves are holding the axes “wrong”?
I actually made it two weeks without Last Refuge doing me wrong in PvP or WvW. *shrug*
But, man, when it did, it did it PROPER.
The meta is Signet of Agility, Shadow Refuge, and Infiltrator’s Signet. Shadowstep can pop in place of SoA or SR.
It really depends on what works best for you, and what you’re having as your other 2 utilities. Inf-Sig is a stun break and a step to target, so I wouldn’t sub that out for nothing, but that’s me.
If anything, you can use Shadowstep over SoA. Instead of more dodges you get more mobility and another stun breaker.
So, uh, Infiltrator’s Signet.
To win in Vegas you cannot make many mistakes…
What happens here, stays here?
Celestial, Fire+Air(Blood), GeoDoom get nerf’d and I think we’d be in a decent place.
Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the Skull Throne?
I set a stow weapon key because I liked being able to draw/stow weapons for RP purposes. Taste the Toast on Tarnished Coast!
To op, I strongly believe every class should have a “go to” build. Medi guards, turret engi’s, power necro/rangers, hambow warriors etc.
As a thief, I’d tell em where to go, but I’d get in trouble.
Need to test it more though, I’d hate to cry nerf then introduce a stronger build into the meta…
Buck the meta with P/D zerk thiefage! Or not.
We get to fight Audrey II now!
I would say it’s no Mean Green Mother From Outer Space, but we did have that super weird sequence thanks to Omadd’s machine.
7 fangs in a row when all I want is a bladder drop...
I’m not keen on achievements, even the dailys, that can depend on other folks. But hey, they do give us a spread of ’em to pick from.
"Become a virulent cloud and inflict multiple conditions on foes you touch."
I’ve always felt it was a tad weak for an elite, so yeah, I would like to see more bleed. Maybe another second of duration, not sure I’d go with more bleed stacks since that might over do it.
It does have that blind/chill thing going for it if you trait for it. It’d be great if that was built in.
Life steal would be awesome, but doesn’t really fit in the inflicty conditiony thing. BUT WOULD BE AWESOME. I poison joo and treat your life as a slurpy cup! So awesome.
Boon strip? Not a condition, but people would flee from you like they were feared. And fear is RIGHT out since that could be a wee WHEEEEE! bit OP.
The only thing I could think that would be in theme would be one that stacks Vulnerability. They’d be like gagging on you. Which should be kinky, but no, no it isn’t. Even in my mind.
