Hi,
Started up Mac [beta] client, and noticed the graphics was way worst than before.
Screen shot attached.
Ugly, but GW2 still playable.
Hope this helps fix this issue.

Disable the occlusion, it’s broken on mac.

Interestingly, my ‘occlusion’ setting was actually Off while having this issue. WTH, and switched it On, though nothing happened, with same bad rendering. But then, I switched it back Off again, and instantly, all graphics back to normal. What was that?
In any case, yes, switching the ‘occlusion’ settings helped remedy (but not fix) this issue.

Sad that the Mac client is still called [beta], and acts like one, too…

It don’t think they have a mac support team anymore, they didn’t reply to any Mac problems in almost a year and the game is crashing more and more on mac.

Anet might as well just get rid of points per tick and rank the worlds by population size. The rankings would be the same anyway.

Our guild recently wanted to move to T2 for guild fights (we don’t PPT), we wanted to move to SoS, we didn’t want to go to YB but we had no choice, it was the only open server. Then we heard some T1 guilds were stacking on YB to move it to T1, and they managed to transfer here even through we had crazy queues already.

To put it short: WvW is a complete mess. You get the fights you’re supposed to in tier 1 and 2 only, and everyone is stacking there. It’s what you get when you leave a game mode unattended for over 2 years and don’t listen to the community outcry.

If Anet finally want to fix it then they shouldn’t do it with half-measures, get a full team working on it.

People get that. For some reason though, there are people who think he actually is difficult and that Karl played well.

Any good player can kill Svanir getting hit only once or twice. This was a terrible fight and Warhorn didn’t seem to help at all, and the elite either was useless. If that was supposed to sell Warhorn it didn’t.

Eye of the storm needs extra effects because kitten cd stunbreak and super speed is terrible.

Eye of the Storm is actually one of the very few things that is not terrible.

Perhaps some eles would use Eye of the storm instead of mistform. EotS is AoE and has shorter cooldown while Mist form negates damage and has some synergy with water traits. It’s certainly not terrible, but it’s nothing special either.

They’re not going to redesign anything. From what it’s looking like they’ll never be ready to launch the expansion this summer. Every profession has not been balanced, they didn’t even have the sounds for the warhorn, no hardcore content was shown, there is only 1 Stronghold map, no real beta has been done for WvW…

ESO has a guesting system for WvW, and the amount of server campaigns are created according to the population of the previous campaigns. That way no maps are empty, there are no transfer cost, and you can play with all your friends.

ESO campaigns was designed for 2000 players. Guesting in WvW would take a significant percentage of the native population. 10 people guesting EB and that’s like 15% of the population. In ESO it wouldnt even be noticable. It would also dilute server pride, just look at EoTM.

I could imagine something similar to ESO alliances instead of servers, but you have to realize that the ONE GW2 server community today is hard enough to manage. Imagine if we had say… 3 in 1 (ie an entire tier). Using TS would become cumbersome (that’s going to be alot of people on a community run TS). You would need at least 4-5 more borders to spread out the population, which open up a whole heap of coverage issues. I fail to see how it would be any better than what we have now.

If WvW maps supported a larger amount of people so that entire WvW would be just half a dozen maps, it would be possible to have alliances the size of current GW2 servers fighting it out (sort of like EoTM lumping servers together in 3 teams, but giving us the freedom of movement like in WvW which would enable individual server communities to join a specific border). But they dont and they never will.

Yeah but ESO will add smaller maps for their WvW next month and the system will stay the same. EotM has no “pride” because it is only based on colors instead of alliances; it is a terrible system in comparison.

They need to find a way to:
1- Get rid of transfer fees
2- Make it so that you can plat with all your friends
3- Keep the population full on all servers
4- Eliminate queues (EotM is a complete failure at that, it’s not even WvW)
5- Make it possible for a server to catch up (giving them more points per kill if they are losing)
6- Make an engaging reward system

This should be rolled out tomorrow.

To answer a bunch of questions that I’ve seen on this thread:

  • The price to move to a server of a given population level isn’t changing. What’s changing is the way population levels are attributed to the servers.
  • I won’t detail the way the new algorithm works, because I want to minimize the risk of people trying to game it. That being said, I am confident it is robust against such attempts. It’s not looking at a short period of time, and it’s looking at many aspects of the ways players are interacting with WvW to determine a server population.
  • It will continue to be impossible to join or transfer to Full servers. It is possible that some servers are going to be marked as Full for a long time. While I understand this can be annoying for some, this is necessary to create a better experience for everyone.
  • I agree that asking new players to chose a World before doing anything in the game is odd, now that Worlds are a WvW concept. This isn’t something we can change easily, however, but I’ll keep it in mind if an occasion arises.
  • Please keep in mind that this won’t have an immediate, instantaneous effect on your WvW experience. The effect of the change will take some time to be observable from a player perspective – it should however be visible pretty quickly on my side, and I’ll make sure it’s going in the right direction.

Once this change has been deployed, I’d like to hear what you think about the population level your server now has. Specifically, I’m interested in hearing about feelings of mismatch (like “my server is marked as full, but feels really empty even at peak time”).

I certainly appreciate the effort, but why aren’t you guys looking at how other MMO companies are doing it if you’re still struggling with population and balance issues after all this time? Transfer cost feels wrong. I spent over 3 times the money I spent on the full game just to transfer because the server I was in was in an unbalanced matchup.

With your current server system I can’t play with or against 80% of the people on my friends list and I have to wait in queues for hours without being able to guest to another WvW server.

My framerate went from 27 fps in LA in 1440p to 11 fps at lowest settings in 1080p. game is totally unplayable.

The game crashes so much: I just crashed as I was about 900 distance form the SW chest (MAllock error something). Of course when I load back in the game it automatically puts me in the wrong instance and I have lost everything.

How can this happen? Can you not fix this so that everyone get the reward they deserve? It’s just terrible frustrating after 2 hours of gameplay.

Honestly the game is in desperate need of new content right now, not videos of past content that was removed.

But the hp and damage of every creatures in dungeons by 200% and make an hardcore mode or something that can serve as an endgame.

I would have went with 4 but the reveal video was terrible. Karl appeared unable to use an elementalist at a remedial level. This explains why he designed a spec that is completely counter to how the elementalist mechanic is designed and how the damage, healing, and survivability is balanced.

Rubi sounded completely unimpressed through the entire reveal. Any encouraging words she said about the spec sounded forced, almost like she was choking on the words.

Showing an ele attacking dummies. It certainly was something. Boring comes to mind. I guess the only thing it really showed was how terrible the damage off the overloads is. Thanks, I guess.

Whoever put this video together really should have done more editing. Although I suspect if it had been edited properly we would have had the opening, afew seconds of an ele attacking dummies, and then the credits. The fight with Svanir…that should have been cut. Not only did it high light how terrible the entire concept of overloading is. It also high lighted the terrible damage, the fact the person working on eles can’t even use them (Even after putting in a tremendous amount of time designing the skills? – something mentioned in the video…that probably should have been cut as it only serves to make this spec appear even worse).

I could go one, but i’m waiting to see if this is the start of a trend for the rest of the specs. Then I’ll decide if i’m going to throw money at HoT.

Dude the class relies on field blasting and evading damage and the new weapon doesn’t even have blast, evades, invul, stab, reflect, or cleanse…

And the overload concept works against the class mechanic: I never stay in an attunement more than 4-5 seconds and after that I don’t want to be a sitting duck for 5 more seconds.

It seems only the art team knows what to do.

Threads on the price of HoT are all over, but I wanted to start a new one mainly with a question about the price for NA customers outside the US.

I’m in Canada, where GW2 on release was $60 CAD. The HoT offerings can only be purchased in USD, and given the published exchange rate that puts it at ~$61 CAD for the basic package…

It’s because it’s going to have as much content as the actual game…

Hahaha ha yea… ok….. surly you MUST know that this isn’t true…. almost makes me feel ill how far off base that comment is.

I was making a joke. For that price Anet is better have 50$ worth of content else it’s the last game I ever buy from them. You could get the complete ESO this week for less.

Staff is just the the best elementalist overall. In WvW you’ll feel you can really control the battlefield. Nothing equals a well placed Meteor shower either.

Focus will keep you alive more, if you run focus then you should run Marauder’s amulet instead of celestial. Personally I prefer d/d. Scepter is a bit unreliable when there are mesmer clones all around.

Am I the only one who has a hard time playing Elementalist?

I multiclass… and to me, Elementalist is the hardest class to play. Hands down… followed by Thief. But Ele is way harder.

D/D… I can’t kill anything.
Staff… It’s waaaaay easier bunkering on my Guardian so I don’t see the point. Staff Ele is also hard for me to play. I can’t get the whole combo thing.
S/F Fresh air FEELS a lot better because my attacks in Air attunement feel like they are actually doing damage but I melt whenever someone looks at me funny.

I am slowly coming to grips with the fact that Ele and Thief might not be the classes for me, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who find Ele really difficult to play well?

The elementalist is really unforgiving because (1) it is the squishiest class and (2) the skills are complicated to rotate and must not be wasted, make 1 mistake and you’re done. On staff the hardest thing if you play other classes is to queue all your skills right while changing attunements, because of the slow cast time.

However it can be rewarding if you can avoid the damage and land your combos. The only viable build for new players is celestial/bunker, unlike other classes like Warrior, where you can go rampage with marauder and get 2 downs on your first match. However give it some time and great things can happen.

What is svanir? Some dungeon boss?

It’s the pvp boss (in pvp lobby) you’re supposed to kill easily if you’re remotely good but the person who designed tempest almost died dueling it using the warhorn and the new shouts (he didn’t use the new elite of course, that would have been a total game changer).

On a more serious note, it would be nice to see someone who actually understands the class to show off the elite specs. Watching Grouch demolish Chieftain with ease was more impressive than the showing of anything else. Watching Karl get interrupted while overloading twice and nearly dying (500hp) was more embarrassing than anything else. That and Rubi’s comments of “That’s so devastating” and watching 4 hits of 400 per target was nothing more than a /facepalm moment.

This goes for the other stuff to, most of the devs who tried to show killing Svanir/Chieftain almost died themselves (they even joke about it on stream) and I think it would be better to show something like Grouch demolishing rather than Karl nearly dying.

Pretty much this. Watching some of the devs PvP makes me wonder what the hell is even going on.

I don’t know man but it wasn’t good publicity for the warhorn or the elite (which didn’t even get used because it’s so useless in a solo fight).

Tempest has nothing to do with time quickness and slow is more about time control lower cd is more of a mages trick.

Ya for some reason Anet thought it would be ok for us if the elite only changed some number by 25%. While other classes have rampage, lich, moa, banner, quickness (on 30 sec cooldown), aoe moa, roots, daggerstorm, etc.

The elementalist are always at the wrong end; when it comes to elites we get the ones that are afterthought, barely do something useful and require basically almost no work at all to put in the game.

I voted Chronomancer even though I main Ele. Gotta say I’m pretty disappointed in what the Tempest turned out to be…

I main ele and voted reaper, the GS on necro look sick.

Tempest is mostly disappointing about of the melee range on the squishiest class, having to camp attunement, no blast or defense on warhorn beside protection and a terrible elite.

Is it safe to call it?

The implementation of Edge of the Mist into a karma train was a huge blow to WvW. We expected new content and instead we got a map used for PvE where people avoid fight. It should have been added in the PPT map rotation and improvements to all maps should have been made accordingly. Then the PPT system and reward system needed serious rework to be constantly engaging. Instead Anet added nothing at all beside 3 commander tags colors and an annoying siege disabler.

Kind of late now (but never too late) to fix a game mode that has been drying out for 2 years. So many of my friends left the game because of the lack of WvW improvements.

Half of the people left that are playing WvW are doing it for fights, open field GvG/scrims, and the WvW community of guilds/friends. They don’t care about the way Anet thinks WvW is played (arrow-carts, siege disablers, golems, ramming gates, etc)

The expansion will give us some landscape variety, which is nice, but if they don’t make the PPT engaging, work on server balance and the reward system, then 6 months later we will be back where we are now.

It also created a lot of new build that needed three Grandmaster traits to work before.

The new system is fine for now. No need to change it.

We could keep 18 points to spend, but have the 5 lines back to spend it on. Best of both worlds: you can max 3 lines, or scatter them.

Problem with the new system is that you’re stuck with the entire line even if you only need the adept trait from that line. It removes all sort of scale from adept to grandmaster and limits interesting builds using more than 3 lines.

I like having more points to spend, but it should go back to 5 available lines to put your points into. They changed something that wasn’t really broken.

So well thought out, why it wasn’t a simple annual thing like they said it would be blows my mind. Like any other yearly event, not too difficult.

See my post above. Apparently due to changes in the physics engine it is more difficult to bring back than most think.

So basically once HoT drops it will prob be more or less back soon after. Eh as long as they havn’t dropped it I’m fine with that. In 3 years I’ve realized anything could happen with Anet.

That is unrealistic, they have already shown in the past that they do not want to bring sab back during a living story season and one should start right after Hot drops. and those take about 6 months. I would honestly not be surprised if SAB never got fixed and released again.

They need to hire people and get it done if it’s what it takes. If they really broke SAB that bad then it is a serious mistake on their part.

Making Overload worth casting

Basically now you have to camp an attunement to get the overload. I think this has to be rethought. It limits so much defensive abilities.

For example: you cannot use magnetic aura, swap to water and overload. By the time overload is ready your aura will be gone.

All of this would function if it was an F5 skill (general overload, on cooldown) and there were no delay on the overload skills. But at the present time the overload function against the elementalist play style, which is it’s biggest problem.

Why do we have 4 keys to overload anyway? Shouldn’t overload be one key that just overload the attunement you are in?

It’s like EotM. The artists did an amazing job, then the implementation of the map was terrible and it ended up being a karma train where people avoid to fight.

Given the exchange rate, in Australia, standard is $69, deluxe is $103 and ultimate is $137. That’s one hell of an expensive expansion, considering a full new release AAA title is $70-80 here and collectors editions usually come with soundtrack CDs, books, statuettes plus digital goods.

Even though I want to, I just can’t bring myself to spend that much on an expansion with an unknown amount of content. I paid $40 for the digital collectors of gw2 and I just don’t see HoT even close to doubling the amount of content (or adding a half, or a quarter or even a sixth as much).

The price wouldn’t matter if it seemed we got a lot of content for it. But so far it seems just like every $25 expansion out there. For the price we should expect to get about 66% the size of what we already have. I’m waiting to see them pull out a rabbit out of a hat at the last minute.

What is the process to cancel a pre-order?

Even if I already pre-ordered and I won’t cancel my order, that new elementalist elite really has me disappointed. I wished I would have waited to see the whole thing about hardcore content before I buy it.

I don’t know if the people in the live show are just incapable of killing chieftain or what is happening. Even if tempest is a support spec there are ways to build an ele to do damage regardless of spec. The fight with chieftain took way too long in comparison to the other specs.

Are you referring to the POI fights? I think those are a great example of why Tempest is such a let down and just how lackluster and underpowered it will be. It takes him 40+ seconds to kill chieftain…and he gets kicked out of two of his overcharges in the first fight! That alone should be a giant red flag that the mechanic is terrible.

Now go watch the dragonhunter fight, another elite spec that the community seem to to bemoan… he kills chieftain in 9-10 seconds and doesn’t even get hit. standing in one place mind you, karl had to run around on the ele like a madman.

Tempest had some great potential, but to me it feels like they dropped the ball every possible way that they could have with this spec.

The elite alone makes me regret pre-ordering the expansion. Having seen it I would have held back and looked around for other options. Want more proff of how crappy that elite is? Karl doesn’t even use it in his fights, not even at the beginning,

It was interesting watching the person who is in charge of making the elite profession struggling with a beast I can kill eyes closed on staff or d/d ele. Hopefully it was just a bad day and the weapon is actually usable in a real battle context.

you are all very delusional if you think an overload build wold be viable, it would be like walking up to someone and attempting to meteor shower at melee range, you will die literally in the blink of an eye without channeling fully even once

It’s like churning earth, it has 25% chance to work unless you have armor of earth, and even then it will make less damage than a backstab.

Warhorn looks like more fun than existing off-hands, like dual heals and the fire boon sharing. But then I play nearly only with staff (I like support and don’t like attunement hopping), not sure it’s goes a long way enough to be original, like it still has a fire field in fire and an interrupt in air.

None of the utility slot shouts are support Flash-freeze and the heal look nice, and I like how auras tie to shouts. The elite… umm.

I hope overloads will contibute to attunement camping, but that 5 second before use is too low for it… I hope for a longer time required to be in attunement but lower recharge on the overload itself.

In general I like the direction but don’t think they went nearly far enough.

To me the range on Warhorn is just bad. The ele is a range class, we rolled it to play wizard-type of gameplay, not “magical-melee-warrior with no armor”. Now we finally get a pull but its on a melee weapon… Like when are we supposed to use his in WvW? We don’t even have weapon swap and staff will always be better.

That pull skill on warhorn would have been better as an air overcharge. And the boonshare would have been better as a shout. And the elite, like seriously?

The global design and viability of the overcharge/shouts/warhorn system feels off. But the elite is the super low point.

Why do people assume that Overload air is spammable… is a 6 second window between each cast considered spamming an ability? Do you really want to spam back to back 5 second channels in PvP? Seriously?

That’s the problem with Anet’s balance basically. They give us a 5 second channel when a mesmer can interrupt you from stealth and burst you down in 1 second.

That elite is a huge let down. For a the price of the expansion don’t tell me we will be stuck with that elite for another 2 years. Warhorn I can live with, but that elite is so disappointing…

I just wished Anet would listen to the feedback and improve some things, like they did for the revenant.
