Why is everyone raging here?! This is a good change. it encourages groups to go scout stuff, and not everyone sticking to 1 commander mindlessly following. You can still do that but don’t complain if they ninja keeps from you…

There’s also always the chat.. you know.. This is an MMO…

I would go for anything except necro. WHile it’s awesome on both WvW and Spvp, they don’t really have place in speedruns etc (any hardcore PvE).

If you don’t care about speedclears and stuff, go for anything you like.

If you don’t want pets, go for another class. Yes there are some WvW builds where pets are there only for a couple of CC hits (maybe that’s true in Spvp too but I don’t play it so can’t really comment), and that’s it.

If you ignore your pet in PvE, you are nerfing yourself and you are a waste of a slot in dungs.

About “what rangers are good at”, they make very good roamers in WvW in either power or cond/bunker builds, and in PvE they bring a lot to group’s dps through both their own dps and group buffs.

Sorry to say but your whole argument is wrong.

PvE wise: LB is just a secondary weapon for 2 skills, and then you swap to your main weapon (sword) unless you want to be either kicked or be carried by your group.

I take it they meant on the interview that a lot of rangers use LB in WvW (otherwise they don’t know their own game).

Fact is, that if you have a good dps range option in pvp, you are going to take it over melee options. This is simple logic. You have the advantage that you don’t have to be close to players to deal damage and therefore you can build more glassy.

About your sword comment… It’s been 2 years and people still complain about the “root”. Sorry but L2P is the only reply here. No, sword is not rangers’ more hated weapon. It is the n00b’s more hated weapon.

PBS has a 0.5 seconds cast time. Not many people will be able to act that fast in the heat of battle. In case they do evade it, they will have 1 evade less for the actual hit they were meant to evade in the first place. (RF)

The way I see it, the change is just an animation change for the ranger. He mentioned something about white lions (kinda like bear maul) and purple arrow.

^ A cure worse than the ‘disease’. Anyone suggesting this hasn’t done as much actual thinking as they believe.

AoE circles are too small to prevent zerging except in chokes – this would force a zerg to spread out a little but numbers would still carry the day. And WvW would be killed by the extremely un-fun instagib meta this would create.

No numbers would not mean win like now. Even a small group with good terrain positioning could completelly wreck a zerg that is completelly mindless, and is just walking together following a comander. AoE circles are big enough to do the job, and people with actual comunication would not put all their AoE in the same place…

Zergs do require tactics. Otherwise smaller groups would not be able to wipe bigger groups. The amount of skill required maybe small but skill is required. Also, A-net stated a long long time ago that system limitation was the reason for the AE cap (around the time they removed culling). Been in a 3 way map blob fights for SM and the server crys :P.

Smaller groups will not win unless the zerg train includes 50% upscaled characters, and people who don’t know how to play their class. (which can of course be the case yes, but point still remains. numbers = win in pretty much all the situations)

Hmm, let me see…

Having “gold” league servers battle with silver and bronze league servers… All rounds were finished within 1 day. No competition between servers whatsoever.

Was it easy: I guess, for the zerglings and for the people on the servers with the most population. Because like orcs or skritts, numbers are the real advantage!

Was it fun: Well I personally had fun seeing platinum X not being able to survive 10 seconds when caught off zerg.

Was it rewarding: Wait it had rewards?! oh you mean other than cosmetic stuff, when we have legendaries and other actual shiny weapons. Eeerm.. no.

PS: Anet next time please consider making event rounds easier for everyone to complete! Some people actually had to log once every 7 days, for the massive amount of 6 minutes (I counted) to follow the <X colour> triangle on the map, while doing nothing, and get their weekly done. This is some massive game work that only hardcore gamers could acomplish.

One thing this game has done right, is having no class with perma stealth. Perma stealth is a terrible thing on open world pvp. Unless you are a fan of groups stacking a perma stealth class, camping in spawns or various map points…

Yeah not going to happen, since we don’t get class revamps here, just some tweeks every 9 months. Yes the pet system could have been done way better in this game, but it is what it is.

You don’t focus on making your pet better, cause it will never be good enough to make something important.

First you look how to maximize your dps, and then have the pet as support to your role.

The pet is far from useless, but it is also far from what a real pet class should be like. At the moment, the pet just helps. It’s not half your class.

Ok, I’ll end this here.
I see now, and that is the only good thing of this thread so far from my view, that I should have started the whole thing from a completely different direction first.

I should have known that this thread will get flooded quickly by forum trolls which show no interest at all in new concepts and post only, to shred the incomplete concept that they simple can’t grasp/or just dislike out of biased different opinions (because its incomplete!) into thousand pieces, before anything based on the fundamentals gets described.

Because Weapon Changes do belong to a complete Class Redesign.
You can’t just only change Traits and the Pet Mechanic only, expecting that it works with the Weapons being completely untouched
I started with the Longbow, because its currently the Rangers only weapon which has way too good synergy from traits, especially when used together with a Berserker Build and Quickness for such said insane railgun bursts, which aren’t so simply dodgeable, as like many ranger fanbois want to play down the problem now, because of loving their
I win in 2 seconds-kill skill number 1 now naturally.

Sure as a projectile attack it has its counters, but with a way too fast recharge time of, if traited freaking low 8 seconds, you can’t prevent being bursted down to death in seconds all the time when you need it the most. RF without critical hits would be due to its very low recharge tiem still powerful enough as a burst.
No class should be able to dish out like 12-14000+ damage within 2 seconds.
Thats also the reason why Anet nerfed the Thieves critical ability of Steal + Mug and changed it into a more supportive action, that heals the thief and can’t deal crit damage anymore, because it was able to deal within seconds way too much damage as a burst.
Also don’t forget, that you have as a ranger also too your Pet at your side, which deals also to the burst of RF additional damage over time…
Anet clearly overbuffed the Ranger’s Burst Potential here with all those trait synergies, out of fear, the community might complain about it later after the FP, that they wouldn’t buff them good enough after all the long Ranger CDI and year long complaints about, how weak the class is

Especially when you fight against multiple rangers you have a problem with their spammy RF bursts, which you ovent don’t see coming due to stealth.
The counterplay has way too long recharge times, dodges are very limited, especially when you play not a thief or any kind of perma vigor build class.
Also you can’t dodge something, what you can’t see coming or what doesn’t get telegraphed while the ranger is in stealth, which is why the stealth from hunters shot needs to go and get its effect changed.

When you overlook my changes for the longbow, someone who is truly interested in a constructive conversation , should quickly see, that I made not just only a “barrage” of nerfs, but I put also buffs into the skills as compensation from the made nerfs.

For the nerf of RF for example I clearly buffed Barrage.
I improved the AA by adding to it a percentaged randomous daze effect to give the Ranger its role back that it had from GW1 as one of the main interrupters, what I think is clearly something, that GW2’s overall combat system needs back to have a class, that is able to prevent somehow burst attacks with interrupts or the usage of long enough animated skills where there is a time window open for a successful interrupt.

However, in a general concensus I agree with you and from seeing those childish unconstructive reactions I’ll reconsider that I will present the concept the next time in a different way.

I see in, that this thread was too hastely posted by me , as I rather like to post bigger concepts in a kind of progressive style that gives me more time to add step by step additional parts.
However there are other ways to present concepts which I will use next time, so there is no need anymore for this thread, so i will inform a Mod to close it.

In order to become eligible to receive the reward you would have to fulfill a WvW weekly achievement. Basically it is the same thing as the most recent tourny achievement but slightly harder because I think most people agreed that the achievements during this tournament were way to easy to obtain.

Yes I’d have the tickets. Tickets for actual WvW players, and not.. ehm.. you know. Playing each friday for 10 mins and that’s it.

Put some actual requirements. Like 500 player kills for example. 100 point captures.

Stuff that actual WvW players can achieve.

Of course you dont carry a longbow as your first and second setup. You carry a second one in your inventory to swap to once bloodlust stacks are full. (Remember to have the bloodlust sigil on your second weaponset aswell in order to keep those stacks)
Second weapon is a GS for blocks, leaps or burst.

I recommend trying the cripple on crit sigil instead of Air to keep the enemy in range in case they run.

Fights end within 10 seconds at most. Make sure the enemy NEVER sees you comming.
If its not a complete beginner, a prepared enemy leads to your death mostly. If he is not prepared he dies in a second. 7-9k+ AA opener hit, 4k consitent AA crits. 15-20k RF within 1-2 seconds.

Your job is to circle around zergs in a big radius and snipe unaware people. Roaming is a no-go. Melee zerging, too.

Edit: Dont be one of those burster ranger that open up with RF. You loose huge burst potential. Only use RF as your first skill if the enemy has aegis on him.
Otherwise pop your 2 damage signets -> 1 AA then RF

I’d swap companion’s might for moment of clarity. You are a burst damage class, your pet won’t do much. A single interrupt from either Brutal Charge, Point blank shot or Hilt bash, will make your next attack re-hit like a truck.

Edit: Also I think going above 65% crit unbuffed is a waste of power. You will have RaO in almost all your encounters, along with BL buff you will be in 85-90% crit.

I’d take sigil of force instead of the 7% crit chance.

for starters, WvW zergs arent rich. The folks who play WvW are loosing money, not gaining it. Also, folks zerg in order to make capturing OBJECTIVES easier. They’re after Embroidered Belt Pouches and Karma, not kills.

Roamers are the people who stand the most to gain from improving PK loot.

I play on Silver leage for quite some time now, and zergs usually fight eachother very often. So in this 1 minute the “fight” lasts, the winning side (ahem.. the one with the most numbers ahem..) will have each player get as much loot as a roamer would do in 15-30 mins. So yeah, just improving the loot, would make the reward gap between roamers and zerglings even bigger.

Just making player loot better, would only make zergers richer.

Zerglings often give as many bags as they get, the roamers who pick off the tails of zergs and disengage and escape will be the people who benefit the most from improved loot tables on player kills.

None said anything about “losing” stuff when you die…

Heck, losing stuff on death is not present on hardcore games anymore… What are the chances of something like this happening on Gw2 .. lol

I’m not sure if anything can be done with player loot at this point.

The best player kill reward system I’ve ever seen in an (open world pvp) MMO, is the system Lord of the Rings online had, untill the end of the expansion Rise of Isengard. (I’m not going to explain it here, just look it up).

Sadly enough it would not work on this game, cause zergs ain’t in a group here, and rewards could not be splited.

A system should be encouraging both big groups AND solo/small group roaming, and not just (the current) mindless zerging.

Its easy to come up with superficial comments, like those above which are based from judging someones opinion just only on one single sentence that a person has written with that they don’t personally agree with, when they have no clues about, what the complete situation was from begin to its end.

This is what i read then stopped. You just said that because someone (who obviously was either afk, or didn’t bother using cd’s or evades) could die to 2 glass cannon classes in a matter of seconds.

First of all every glass cannon class can drop you in matter of seconds if you don’t react. So imagine what 2 of them can do.

Also you are not supposed to be able to win 2v1 fights, unless you greatly outplay the other players. (Thing that can be done very easily on some classes even if all 3 players are on the same skill level…)

So no, it’s not that I don’t agree with your points, it’s that you don’t have any real points. You just want rangers to be almost useless once more, because you can’t accept that they are now on-par with other classes.

AG and servers in silver don’t have that much of people in wvw anymore. So it happens quite often that you spend whole raid looking for fights and finds none. And when the guild is quite successful that enemy starts avoiding fights… And no fights = no fun and people stop playing…

Actually silver league servers is the best thing for anyone who dislike zerg trains. Yes there are a lot of people in WvW. More than enough.

I also play on AG, and i was amazed how bad gold leage servers are (we played against 2 in this tourn). 90% of their playerbase are following a commander, resulting in 50-60 man blobs, going from keep to keep PvE’ing… “WvW” …

I was amazed how <insert super high rank here> players could not even act when caught outside of their zerg.

As for the “rewards”.. what rewards? 50 tournament tokens more? To do what with them? Buy a miniature? Or get the ascended trinkets everyone has by now…

Antagonizing people isn’t gonna help your cause. That being said, whining in general will solve nothing. If you genuinely think something is OP and needs to be changed, explain why and do your research. This constant whiner v. troll thing really doesn’t accomplish anything and usually ends in the class in question getting nerfed anyway.

If the devs actually changed content, based on argument-less QQ on the forums, we wouldn’t play a game now.

People were used to be able to completelly ignore rangers for 2 years now, and saw them only as a lootbag. Now people started taking them serious, but some do not wanna accept that.

I havn’t seen 1 real argument to why rangers are “overpowered” (because they are obviously not). On the other hand, more than 80% from those 500 posts about rangers after the update, are from people who created a QQ thead the minute they lost a 1v1 to a ranger.

I’m just saying that’s how things tend to go down. The class in question undoubtedly gets nerfed. Be it in a month, or a year, it will happen, and the the FotM will change, because if it never got nerfed, we would never get all these new FotM things. Just my personal opinion that people on both sides of the issue acting like kittens to each other won’t solve anything.

Thing is the current LB ranger is not fotm. It was, the first 2 weeks after the update. The numbers have returned to almost what it was before. Most people roll classes that can be built for zergs. Ranger is not one of them.

Also about the incoming nerf, the devs might actually listen to player QQ, when it has a point, and real arguments. The current ranger QQ has none. It’s just people that can’t accept that they got killed by a ranger.

People were used to be able to completelly ignore rangers for 2 years now, and saw them only as a lootbag. Now people started taking them serious, but some do not wanna accept that.

If you afraid to speak your mind in fear of a nerf, I got bad news for you…

I havn’t seen 1 real argument to why rangers are “overpowered” (because they are obviously not). On the other hand, more than 80% from those 500 posts about rangers after the update, are from people who created a QQ thead the minute they lost a 1v1 to a ranger.

This isn’t warrior vs ranger discussion time

Simply RF in its current state needs to go.

This isn’t even a discussion. This is just another post with people crying that something is OP without a real argument to back it up. There are so many counters to longbow it isn’t funny. Even the people crying the hardest say they can take a power ranger in a 1v1. If the problem is fighting multiple rangers than bring teammates to support you.

The problem is not 1 vs. 1 at all. It is entirely N vs N.
Today I watched a guy who thinks the change was OK and also says dodge is all you need. He was playing a thief that was somewhat of a bunker build. He and 1 other are approaching 2 rangers. Here is the fight.

1.) Ranger A uses his gatling arrow gun and this guys double dodges and stealths.
2.) Ranger B starts his gatling gun up after dodge 2.
3.) While stealthed the thief gets pew pew pew pew’ed and dies. All damage while stealthed other than from ranger 1’s initial barrage.
4.) The other guy is approaching during this time.
5.) He see’s a dead thief and decides against it and both rangers target and destroy him.

Thief almost got into steal range.

Now lets talk about all those counters. Thief has 2 possible:
1.) Dodge
2.) Dagger storm

Dagger storm is an elite skill with a 30ish second cooldown…so a ranger can use the gatling arrow gun three times in this time. Once 2 dodges are done a thief can’t dodge for quite some time.

So in order to just survive the above he would have to dodge twice, then use his elite skill, and then stealth and then run away as now he’s used his elite and can’t dodge anymore. Meanwhile the ranger has essentially spent nothing and by the time the thief can recover the gatling gun is ready again.

Now lets look at what a ranger has to do to counter a thieves one button press attack.
Well the answer is nothing as thieves have to close distance. So they have to steal/step to the target first. This is really obvious as the thief disappearing from his position means you can dodge BEFORE taking any damage. Then if the ranger stealths…guess what…no damage…what if the ranger roots the thief? Again no damage.

So are you seriously telling me that another class has to have a certain elite equiped just to stay alive for one 8 second period? The 9th second they are dead because that one ability has 22 more seconds on cooldown.

The change is laughable and the above clearly describes why. Therefore the skill has to be nerfed OR OR OR…..as should have been done a long time ago…lets modify the thieve’s counters:

1.) Dodge
2.) Daggerstorn
3.) Stealth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don’t want to be nerfed? Get them to fix the fact that direct target shots hit stealthed players.

First things first…

First you L2p. Then you learn how to 1v1 a ranger on your thief.

Then you will have to worry about 2v1 them… You got a loooong way to go…

If you are dying to a 66xxx Ranger 1v1, you really need to work on your PvP skills.

When I play 66020 in WvW, I win at least 90% of 1v1 fights. And I’m not counting those who don’t even bother to fight back and just try to walk away…

The build is far from useless. If you know how to move around and use the right skills at the right time, you’ll do very well. It’s actually far more challenging than any other build, because you can’t afford to miss or mess up anything. Yes you won’t be able to go in 1v4 fights and troll the people, and you can’t join every fight you see like a braindead bunker build. But if you keep your eyes open and use your brain, the build is actually very good.

But lol, the build (or any ranger build) is far from being overpowered.

Yes it is very viable. It’s not part of the meta build at the moment, but if you don’t really care about speedclears on dungeons/fractals, you should be just fine.

It is a good weapon with nice mobility and goes nice for power builds.

First of all I thought this is the thief forums and not pvp thread on pvp forums. (The thread has no point anyways, since it was created by someone who has spam the forums with 500 “nerf rangers” threads.)

Anyways on your point, No the dps doesn’t change enough (after the 30 secs) to change the rankings of the classes.

And yes these are PvE testings. Tests for pvp dps do not exist and could not possibly exist. You can’t test your dps when you have to consider terrain advantages/disadvantages, enemy evades, enemy CC, enemy fears, etc…

That doesn’t change the fact that your source and list is illegitimate to the topic at hand. Regardless if this is the thief forum, the thread is PvP related. Your information is PvE related. Trying to argue PvP with PvE evidence doesn’t serve your side of the debate any justice because the two do not mix. The nature of both gametypes do not allow this.

You do realize that you can’t just do “DPS tests”, right? Like, there are so many factors that go into fighting an opponent that DPS testing is going to be extremely unreliable, particularly if it’s done against a golem in the mists or what have you.
Average DPS across all games is a function of the average skill level of your opponents, how easily they can dodge bursts, how much damage they deal back to you, terrain, allied buffs, stats, builds (and the best DPS builds may not always be the most practical ones), cast times/animations, how much evading you do, how often weakness is applied to you, the effect of cripple/chill on you, etc, etc, etc for days.

EDIT: also, given the fact that Warriors still remain an incredibly viable and easy-to-play profession in sPvP, and the amount of damage I’ve seen Warrior/Ele comps do in dungeons, I’m pretty doubtful that Warrior ranks fourth, and I think Mesmer definitely goes above Guardian and maybe even Engineer, depending on your build (again the best DPS builds are not necessarily the most practical).

Yes I’m well aware that dps is probably the least important factor for someone to get in a dungeon group. I didn’t said anything about that. I just listed the rankings acording to dps!. Why is it so bloody hard to understand ?!

I just see a list with warrior being somehow 4/8 which is incredibly wrong. They not only have high burst they have heavy sustained damage.

thief (hardest hitting attack is Backstab with a 2.4 coefficient, required positioning in a small timeframe to achieve it; the second strongest attack a thief has is Heartseeker vs enemy @ 25% hp)
Ele (max burst rivals guard but otherwise reported to be the most powerful burst capability in the game)
Engineer
Ranger (most powerful long range attack)
Warrior (hardest hitting attack in the game with most attacks around or above a 2.0 coefficient, stacks might like its nothing compared to every other profession)
Guardian (Reported to have the best DPS in the game)
Mesmer

No I’m not. As far as i know those tests were made by 2 guilds and not by 1 person. All characters had top tier gear etc.
