Those booster need to be streamlined into both PvP and WvW reward track progress, and clearly indicated.

Gem Store Level 80 Boost? <3

Zephyra.4709

+1 I would definitely buy multiple level 80 boosts if they were sold in the gem store (just the instant level 80, NOTHING ELSE)

ANet can have all my money if they added such an option.

I disagree with those whom state it’s “pay to win”. Crafting to level 80 almost as fast or levelling via Tombs of Knowledge is no different.

We win nothing but the concrete foundations on which way we want to make use of that now level 80 character; (it’s not like people are paying for an 80 that comes with full ascended gear + weapons etc, ha!) a lot of content is catered towards max level users and having an additional option to instantly be viable or start that journey (buying gear etc for that toon) is a welcome addition to the game for many whom want to participate in things straight away. There is freedom to level to 80 naturally, freedom to use your ToK’s, freedom of choice to craft to 80 (people probably BUY gems and convert to gold for this) and I only deem it fitting the freedom of choice if one wishes to purchase level 80.

ANet is a business and a company needs to make money, one way or another.

Do I think ANet would add such an option in the gem store? I doubt it – people talk it down like it’s ruining their gameplay or somehow devalues their “efforts” or perhaps marginally do not like multiple options available to them for whatever reason. These people do not like change or find it alien to them or perhaps think it’s very wrong to “skip” things you could’ve played through whilst levelling up; I think it’s a different path of choice – now that you’re 80 nothing stops you from going back. That content will always be there for you to explore; World Completion is an example.

TLDR: Multiple ways to get to 80 are healthy game options; buying an 80 boost Is no different to instant crafting or using tombs.

Why I believe gw2 fails miserably...

Zephyra.4709

Scaling exists for the following reason:

- to keep low level areas interesting regardless of your level/gear
- to stop you from “trolling”; potentially 1HKOing everything in sight
- to make world completion not entirely feel like an easy “quick” push over just because you’re max level

If we didn’t have scaling people would complain of “kill stealing” because 80s would literally be able to 1 shot everything at their will. It would be very unfair on lower level players and it would entirely de-incentivize ever going back to low level maps because it would kill the “challenge” feeling.. Not that being on an 80 in Queensdale ever felt challenging so that probes me to ask a question… Why is it you would take 80% health dmg from a CORE Tyria mob in a LOW LEVEL zone in the first place?

There are ways to avoid dmg.. Like dodging, kiting, blocks, invulnerables ect.

I think OP you are being one sided and think everything should be “easy” mode once you hit 80 – I disagree and think scaling is good for this game as it keeps bad things from happening as mentioned above and keeps the gameplay relevant in ANY zone/level.

Thanks anet with the massive Q. EOTM hype, we can punch up-level pug’s face now.

Whelp, it finally can be accepted as an “overflow” and not just some k-train kiddy uplevel pool thanks to the world linking, those Q times OUCH! and the sever to XP earned in WvW so there is literally no reason people should bring uplevels into EOTM or WvW now since they can simply get tombs now in the reward tracks.

Better fights no more uplvl rally bot bait? I hope so…

In a sense, commanders are the people dishing out COMMANDS and therefore DO the tanking to stay alive and are the spearhead of the Zerg. If your commander falls, chancs are unless you have a back up… The Zerg will scatter and crumble badly so it is ideal to be running TANKY stats such as Soldier, Sentinel or if you literally mean yolo tank mode – Nomad’s.

I run a set of full sentinel’s with the shouts traited + trooper runes, a tonne of condi reduction + removal uptime and invuls elite skill so nose diving into the enemy is very fun and survivable.

In essence, being situationally aware and have the right skills ready or placement of skills can mean life or death regardless of what stats you run.

Being in a decent guild comp set up makes a difference, too, with many boons + traits buffs playing a big role in what gets shared about.

If you plan on going full tank – make the most of it and have fun!

might not work so well for EU servers, as they already have initials appended to them, but for NA servers at least… perhaps tacking on the accepted server initials to the very end of the nameplate for “guest” servers… for example… looking at me see Blackgate Silver Scout[DoD]ET or something of that nature.

I think it’s a real shame and somewhat server “pride” killer if they don’t show anything indicating the “guest” servers.

I’m very happy to hear if ET are our buddies for the linking of worlds (I met some good players down there when I were on ET), as you’ve stated.. Something simple on the end of the nameplates would be appreciated for those servers.

I think it’s a bit selfish, unlike Mesmer there isn’t really a way to give all those lengthy boons to your buddies around you. But if you’re holding yourself and supporting you team mates and things are rolling fine, play whatever you find enjoyable.

On the topic of boon duration and making the most out of it, you may wanna try out Chronomancer.. Herald Runes (I think those are the right ones) with Spring Roll food for permanent 7+ mins of swiftness, Agility + Concentration sigils for even more Quickness and once you dump all your boons on yourself nicely you can literally double up on them all and for your allies, not sure of target cap with signet, but you can pull off double Signet of Inspiration so the boon-share is crazy… Especially seeing a Zerg of 50+ players all having a decent 7+ mins of swiftness.

I have not tested it with full boon duration only things as I like to run other stats in it for more power… But with all the boon duration wow I can’t imagine the ridiculous amounts you could rack up, especially Quickness boon. Ha.

NEED more commander tag colors please

  • Green (either lime or Emerald)
  • Black
  • White
  • Orange or Chocolate Brown (strong, bright, bold)
  • Pink

By pink I mean the prettiest girliest princess pink ever for my big manly Charr to don in battle!

Okay all jokes aside I think those colors would widen the spectrum a bit whilst not being too similar to the colors we already have available.

I am trying to be mindful of whom might be color blind but I do understand colors such as green may be exactly the same as yellow so that’s why I’m indicating either a very vivid lime green or darker such as Emerald.

I would love more commander tag colors available.

Ehhh. The only tag I have minor issues with is the red one due to it being the same hue as all the enemy names when you go in for the bomb.

It seriously helps to have call target on your comm at all times though. If the comm is using those little mark icon shaped though he/she can set themselves as a little green star or aqua spiral as examples and that might pop better for others.

I saw a reddit post today of someone wanting a green comm tag and they are not alone… It would be really cool because green is such an awesome color.

Well since experience cannot be gained in WvW, I guess EotM will be a dead map unless there are queues.

No. We don’t get exp anymore BUT now we get one tome for every WvW rank! In other words, people who used to level alts in EotM can grind levels for them on their mains. I only played for about an hour but I got 8 Tomes total including the ones from daily keep and reward track. Today’s patch was a great improvement for EotM, actually. Mains grinding tomes for alts means less uplevels in EotM.

  • “Experience will no longer be awarded in WvW.
Tomes of Knowledge have been added to the Chests of the Mists awarded for ranking up in WvW and exist in the new WvW reward tracks.”

This is quite interesting, so a benefit from WvW + EOTM been removed regarding XP gain but has been replaced by incentive to “grind” out these reward tracks for tombs?

At least if there are any fights in EOTM it would leave out any rally bait up levels. And yes, there are pretty large fights that take place in Edge.

I can see this being a good thing for those that want to play their “main” but at the same time level an alt in forms of gathering tombs via rank up.

Going to try WvW..need advice!

Zephyra.4709

There are websites out there with quite decent info regarding team comps in WvW or even just roamer builds, Zerg builds and GvG ones.

Metabattle is the norm and an okay starting point but I recommend branching out from that and tweak your build to suit YOU; if you need more defense.. Put some soldier gear into it etc.

As for classes the ones you have listed, primarily Guard + Ele are always a welcome sight in WvW seeing as guardian has access to easy stability share & is the frontline tanky role but also Ele being back line support. I am not too fond of Ele so I will leave it to others to explain it’s role in WvW better.

If you are starting out I highly recommend installing TS3 and get to know the server’s channels so you can be ready to join them when out there in battle. It also vastly helps if you are in a guild, furthermore – a guild that has a passion for WvW and can assist you in learning more to do with team comps and what you should be running to benefit the outcome of the scenario as a whole.

It’s okay to die – it happens. A lot. Do not let it clamp you down, just get up and get back out there but be mindful and situationally aware at all times; especially with enemy bombs. Getting stuck in a mass CC bomb with condis is certain death so I suggest make sure you have stability or stun breaks and condi cleanse + appropriate foods at hand.

Try different classes, see what you like! Experiment!

As others have stated the “meta” is or could be shifting a bit so some builds on websites could be outdated.

Hope that helps and happy hunting!

Solid WvW class

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

As others noted DragonHunter is exactly what you are looking for. Even with the light nerfs they recently received they still the most complete class in the game. The only thing they don’t seem to have is easy access to swiftness or similar movement buff outside of Traveler runes.

Maybe it’s just the build I usually always play but I constantly have perm swiftness on my guard thanks to traited shouts and staff#3.. Always over 1min+ of swiftness.

If people really don’t want to be pigeon holed into taking up that slot and trait though there is a food out there that gives boon duration but also 30 seconds of swiftness on kill, of which you can merrily stack up to 7+ mins of swiftness. Hope that helps.

Solid WvW class

in WvW

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

I would say Dragonhunter/Guardian for frontline and typical stability-share etc role. It can Zerg, it can support, it can frontline with generic staff or lazy back line thanks to longbow “fire And forget” kind of feel with both the LB skills and F1 spear throw and pull target. There is also the possibility of roaming or 1v1 on it though I can’t quite say as I only ever play my DH/guard in zerging.

If not guardian then you would probably do best to heed the advice of those that state sticking with the “meta” for each class in wvw will beat help your team mates out there; Mesmer has it’s niche portal + veil bot use but also as others have stated the crazy boo share comp is around. Necros are standard back liners with their unblockable wells although IMHO I find it super boring and I prefer where the action is.. Frontline.

I’ve tried out full cleric frontline staff/sword+WH Druid and the heals are awesomeeee fun watching your CMD’s health go from 30% to just under 90% or so with the AF #3. Your own regen sources, condi cleanses + minor evades with sword (not sure if changed thanks to patch to ranger sword animation) keep you alive throughout fights unless you’re very hot focused. Not sure if Condi Survival ranger is still a thing but that a while ago was good for roaming.

I don’t know why but all I can think of when I nose dive into the enemy is MC Hammer’s song; CAN’T TOUCH THIS.

Yes it’s gimmicky but it is glorious. And majestic. And fun.

Have not tried it with the buff in this patch to guard shouts regarding CD reduction, more condi removal uptime? Sounds good to me.

Hardest class to level up?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

Yeah as others have mentioned it might be different levelling now as opposed to couple years back but I remember Mesmer being ungodly to level up due to their nature of using clones, AI and if you just hack and slash away at things it really didn’t feel as awesome or “DPS” heavy such as warrior.

Other than that… I found thief a bit squishy to level through but at the same time challenging in a good way if that makes sense. I think for those classes I learn them 100% better if they are full level 80 so I have access to everything up front instead of slowly churning through and unlocking the lame traits/skills etc first.

Up to you!

is 500 the cap for material storaging?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

The cap is now 2,000. You have to pay for the Storage space Expander thing in the Gem Store to acquire that much extra space.

If you don’t want to shell out for that there are other options such as making a mule toon that acts as a “bank”; equip it with bag slots and there’s your ghetto bank/mule toon where you can store whatever you want on it.

EDIT: whoops misread OP’s post regarding stack. No the actual STACK of items is capped at 250, but you can stack 250 of X items into the storage material section at a cap of 2,000. Anything more and you will have to revert to storing it in your bank/on other toons.

Hope that helps.

Not sure if that’s asking too much or if I’m still half asleep and can’t think of anything better to trade them in for.. Haha.

in Engineer

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

Frontline me lee engi has been very fun for me, mostly PUG Zerg fights.

- full sentinels
- HGH elixirs double invuls from both elixir so condis are not a problem and I constantly have near permanent 25 might stacks
- relentless stability from traited Juggernaut FF toolkit
- evades/blocks/reflects from hammer
- stealth gyro when needed or the launcher elite/tornado/rampage whichever procs

I don’t know, I can run an face tank the initial push, even run all the way through to the enemy back line and back if I’m decently lucky. It’s quite funny; distracting and annoying the enemy once through.

I might swap my condi reduction food out for boon duration and swiftness on kill food because swiftness is my only problem with engi and the traits I’ve got. If I use that food then at least I’ll have permanent 7+ mins of swiftness so idk still meddling with the build.

I would say it’s very selfish but it has it’s uses with the minor stab to allies regarding elixir B I think it is. And stealth gyro to Rez downed allies.

While I understand the kick in the teeth vibe after dunking tonnes of gold etc into Goldsink Halls 2 then seemingly ages after the damage they make changes to lower the pain I will agree it is a dog move an they should’ve been working on these improvements VERY soon after HoT launched, I can’t help but feel you are dishing out the term “free” too vaguely, in fact… Wrongly.

I don’t find it surprising like any modern gaming business model to incorporate said “goodies” every once in a while into the game FOR players to KEEP players in their game, and to keep them happy. We are not being given things for “free”, it is more along the lines of… I purchased HoT and only now are they delivering things VERY late. Correct me if I am wrong but only players who purchased HoT are eligible for the 80 boost?…

…either way, we paid for it. They are still late on delivering content but for now, I am for one, at least grateful they have delivered SOMETHING after being in the dark for quite the time.

Furthermore, I will never understand people who “complain” about being given “free” things. As if something undermines their “achievements” or gains from.. How long ago? Let people play how they wish to play and enjoy the game.

Reward tracks work in EOTM

in WvW

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

For what it’s worth EoTM gives +414 to reward track every 15 minutes at max participation, WvW gives +550.

If this is true then it should be left alone; the incentive is there to play WvW for better rewards regarding the participation score you report. People should have options. Be mindful if all borderlands are indeed full and EOTM serves as an overflow “while you wait” as indicated on the wiki page, then I would think those players still want to be entitled to any rewards they rack up in EOTM whilst waiting for their queue to pop…

People actually complaining about this? Man that is sad. Yes. Very sad.

- WoW has max level boost
- BF4 has all weapons etc unlocks “packages”

This is no different to other game’s norms for unlocking max level content and I am very happy GW2 has finally got this option.

You cannot brand “new players” as one whole stereotype; there are some new players who might actually WANT to get instant level 80 so they can instantly participate in end game content – so what if they don’t “explore the world to 80 naturally”? Who does this hurt, you.. But why do you feel like your efforts are cut short? Literally everyone and their mum’s brown dog has gotten to 80 various other ways – tell me Crafting instantly to 80 doesn’t give you the same vibe?

I think more options to instant max level is a good thing.

- explore the world “naturally” levelling as you go
- Tombs of Knowledge
- Crafting
- this new level 80 instant boost

ANet is a business and obviously a business needs to make money; a tool such as instant 80 boosts for whatever price caters to certain customers and has been asked for, for a long time now.

Remove EoTM or limit its use

Posted by: Zephyra.4709

Zephyra.4709

Taking away something that a lot of people obviously enjoy and even some are dedicated to will just put a bad taste in their mouth rather than encourage more people to go back into World vs. World.

This is a very bad suggestion…

This.

It pains me to see how cruel, mindless & un constructive some players perceive things.

“I don’t like people playing X game mode, so let’s remove it completely so they are forced to play the one I play.”

What kind of logic is that?

Removing content is the pinnicle of selfishness, a poisonous action that alienates certain players from playing said removed content and leaving them in the dirt with only one option, one they either like or don’t. I would think the latter if someone removed content permanently that I enjoyed playing.

It’s sad people are blind when it comes to stating such silly proposals; would removing content entirely ushering in all those unhappy players solve the existing problems in YOUR preferred game mode that is “real WvW”?

Perhaps there is reasons why these players choose to play EOTM over real WvW.

Right now the current state of WvW is very broken, untended to, unbalanced, not rewarding, lacking incentive and simply put – not as fun as it used to be.

Perhaps if ANet took the time to mend those problems and make it more inviting than option B; EOTM, then you might see WvW as a whole flourish a little more.

Removing content is never a healthy idea. Backtracking and improving + refining original content (WvW) to working, smooth standards is the way to go. Make THAT more appealing to players but most importantly – let players PLAY what they want to play. Two similar game modes are better than being pigeon holes into playing one.

I try to stay neutral but accepting of the facts.

Yes, EOTM is originally a testing ground. We’ve established that, much alike the concrete broken promises & definite disappointments ANet perfectly delivers wave after wave for us – “improving WvW”. I don’t remember which exact highlighted topic that was, there were many. Go look back through the years. You’re bound to find something related to “we’re working on it”.

This should come to no surprise to any reasonable folk tackling the concept of EOTM and it’s intended purpose – a supposed place to test content, of which I don’t ever recall anything significant undergoing “testing” in there before release in “real WvW”.

Long ago when WvW was brimming with active, swarming players full fledged queues on all borderlands was a common, real thing. The only option at those particular times if you wished to jump into anything remotely WvW related? EOTM. Confirmed this game mode served as an overflow, the concept of stated “waiting room” for players wanting instant access to said WvW related game play.

That alone was healthy as an alternative; I am not one to be fond of being stuck waiting in LA for my turn to enter real WvW achieving nothing in the meantime.

So. Similar game game modes and rewards. The only thing that differs is the game play itself and what players alone choose to make use of this game mode for themselves. As OP indicates; it’s a very strange presence to experience initially, primarily being teamed with other servers representing the entirety of a third of the current server positions/ranks, e.g; all green teams for the week will be on the green side in EOTM.

I don’t think it’s a negative aspect, but one to be challenged. Knowing someone as an ally one week and having them switch to face you as the opposition next week gives opportunity for yourself to path improvements; how successful can a 4 hour match go being teamed with primarily random individuals? Teamwork. Opposed to home servers and logging in to the same people each time on the borderlands this EOTM provides oppotunities to branch out and communicate with others, different players. Varying people. Understanding I am of the presence of “two-faced” players. Allies one week and enemies the next – it is awkward and may not deem acceptable by some but to others it’s a refreshing experience.

Moving on to the next category; use and rewards. There is no doubt when it comes to the human mind most people will try to take the easiest, least labor-intensive path for whatever ungodly reason to get what they desire. I think we can all agree most players whom venture into EOTM are greeted with the easy doorway to rewards. Sure, you make it what you want in there, but most players are happy to reap in whatever benefits they can via doing the bare minimum – board the train, mash #1 and collect your rewards.

I can’t quite grasp how much of the player base has collectively and acceptingly molded EOTM into just that – evident by the sea of “hatred” towards the game mode; it is what players make of it and so it’s commonly branded as the place where lazy, mindless players go to rake in their loot.

For whatever reason certain players out there relentlessly pursue the idea that the game mode itself has no purpose, and that score doesn’t matter. I think these players are confused with what they are given. An un-solved puzzle with infinite, varying results. They can’t be reasoned with however – it’s a game mode that is served with the opportunity to do what you want in whilst supposedly waiting. The overall score doesn’t have to matter. You make the purpose. Are you in there to roll over other players? Defend a tower? Board the so commonly termed “K-train”?

I think these kind of individuals do not like change, or perhaps their ability to give constructive feedback is lacking.. Non-existant is an alternative consideration.

So there is one similarity between the modes – purpose. Or none. It’s up to you. I’m not sure about others out there but WvW as a whole… Post-mega servers and the swath of unimaginable horrendous changes unleashed upon us leaves me in agreement that our red-headed stepchild of the game modes (“real WvW”) has little actual purpose in terms of final outcome. Someone always wins at the end of the week. But what? Not much. Long gone are tournaments.

It has been noticed the increase in player activity in EOTM regarding more fights. With what we were served on the dining table in terms of catastrophic balance updates, changes to WvW and most recently – HoT and yet another soak in the tub of broken promises I don’t find it surprising players are rather dipping their toes in EOTM as opposed to “real” WvW.

EOTM is arguably the closest thing to an old recollection of an aged WvW game mode, mechanically speaking. It is now I believe, considered an old school place. Players and guilds would rather fight and play in a game mode near-free and almost rid of the unspeakable horrors that were included in HoT regarding WvW.

I’m scared of change, admittedly. But I do have the heart and patience to try things out.

Right now, “real WvW” is not as fun as it used to be with these changes in place. Pirate ship isn’t fun. Hammer train frontline days – it’s been too long, I miss you, stability.

I don’t think EOTM has “stolen” players from “real WvW”, but that it is an optional similar game mode for people to play. It’s just a shame players choose to milk it for it’s “rewards”, even with the nerf it was struck with.

I think things are out of whack regarding WvW as a whole. Who’s fault is it, if any at all?

At the end of the day people will always nit-pick and cruelly judge things however they please but just remember, it’s okay to play the game mode(s) that you enjoy. I don’t think it should hurt or affect anyone negatively… But for whatever reason somewhere out there.. Someone always takes offense, hatefully so.

In order of priority convenience:

1. Bank slots.
Extra toons can be your mule banks but hands down bank slots are a must.
2. Endless harvesting tools.
I’m talking Watchwork Mining Pick as an example; they are very beneficial to have.
3. Shared Inventory Slots
These alone are the pinnacle of convenience but you don’t necessarily “need” them; at least you can then place stuff such as Portal devices, Bank Expresses and any other monumentally important account-wide friendly item(s) in there.

Hope those help.

WvW badges?

Yes and no with the general idea of having something to show for your “efforts” in WvW.

As long as it’s toggle-able; it sometimes amounts to unneeded screen clutter.

But overall I’m neutral… There are some things in this game that simply state “grind”; I reached ruby this season in PvP. I am a very bad, unskilled player but I got it trough grind and it’ll be no different to anything WvW players receive.

Same with WvW rank if they ever want to let players publicly show their ranks, only viewable to enemies currently; having a high rank doesn’t mean you’re skilled or you “earned” it… A lot of it is just grind or you’ve been around for a while.

Whatever floats your boat though.

One little baby step at a time, that’s the way ANet. Now all you need to do is remove it completely!
