You know what would totally stop this sort of thing? Making all living story content instanced as it has been for the most part. The open world aspect for things that are specifically story should be converted to instanced storytelling.
Hmm…. this is interesting. Maybe it could play out something like this:
OoW characters: Get mini adventures/side quests where they go out and perform assassinations, blackmail, stealing, or investigation (similar to what we did with Kasmeer at that party in Divinity’s Reach to expose Minister Estelle).
Vigil characters: side quests to fend off dragon minions throughout Tyria, because for a game about dragons, we don’t seem to do much that has to do with dragons outside of personal story and living story. Maybe vigil characters will always be ‘on patrol’ and their presence in various areas throughout the game would trigger new events that deal specifically with fighting dragon minions, and the triggering of these events would require a player to be Vigil (since the Vigil was founded to fight the elder dragons specifically)
Priory players: could be tasked to explore newly discovered tombs, dungeons, jumping puzzles, ruins, and such. Exploration, research, discoveries, documentation. Exactly what the priory is for.
Completion of these things would of course offer faction/notoriety points (even though the players are technically commander of all 3 orders at one time, but up until recently that little fact kept getting swept under the rug).
I dunno, just a thought.
So much hope and spirit back then… They had huge plans… what happened?
Probably that most of the GW1 devs left ArenaNet during the production of GW2.
Random fact that may or may not have to do with why things are the way they are:
The majority of the current developers of GW2 had nothing to do with GW1. It wouldn’t even surprise me if half of the GW2 devs never even played GW1. The majority of the developers of GW1 left ArenaNet while GW2 was still in development.
Think about it, why else does GW2 lack that Guild Wars feeling that GW1 gave you?
I second this motion.
Are they real or are they just an idea that you guys were toying with and ultimately scrapped?
So did ArenaNet just add ANOTHER kitten RNG thing where only a few people get lvl 60 and most don’t?
Somehow I can confidently say that the majority if your 5k hours logged is AFK….
And this is how SAB died. Everyone lived happily ever after. The end.
So…. why did I fail to read in there that ArenaNet is hiring? Oh right… because they aren’t and the bottom line is all that matters…
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no to the googolplex power. No dedicated healers or tanks.
So…. I think you guys should add some sort of explosive thingy in the game that is named after Marvin the Martian’s favorite explosive…. maybe for the engineers?
And what do you think we, the players, are doing right now during these first 2 weeks? We are already doing the QA work right now. See all those threads about stuck events and lackluster content or story? That’s the QA. They DO look at these posts, you know. Notice how season 2 is actually permanent content as opposed to that mess that was season 1 temporary content (as many have asked)? Did you notice that they are bringing back some involvement of the Pact for season 2 (as many have asked)?
I think what you really want (and most likely wont get) is to join ArenaNet’s internal testing team and work with their core testing client. They consist of the people who played in the alphas and early betas. If you are not already in it, you probably wont get to be a part of it unless a friend of yours who happens to be in it already recommends you to ArenaNet when they ask for volunteer testers. Maybe the ones currently in it are not doing their jobs as testers very well? I wouldn’t count on it though. I’m sure if ArenaNet wanted volunteer testers, they would send us an email with an offer, because they know there are plenty of players who would love to help test this stuff out.
Another detail that most don’t know: the majority of the the developers for GW2 had nothing to do with the development of GW1. Shoot, some of them probably never even played it.
How else would you explain the lack of brilliant features like districts? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-to-fix-the-megaserver-problems/first#post4029564
How else would you explain the lack of GW1 weapons and armor skins that were so varied and plentiful?
Many of the GW1 devs left ArenaNet many years ago, before GW2 was anywhere near release. Mike O’Brien is one of the few original GW1 devs, and even though he’s like the head honcho, he can’t make decisions about the game without the consent of the majority of the company.
Ah… Cantha… a land we will probably never see in GW2 simply because NCSoft finds Asian themes offensive now in the games they publish.
I already brought this up 3 months ago, and I’m sure others have done so earlier than that. I don’t think ArenaNet has a problem with this achievement or it’s ridiculous requirements. My suggestion is to not bother with that achievement.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/So-about-those-giants/first
Go ahead and use third party software to play this game on a gamepad instead of mouse/keyboard. I’ll take advantage of your severe combat disadvantage. Good luck using anything more than 1 button to use ten different skills, because the remaining 7 buttons will be bound to jump/dodge/weapon swap/heal/interact/auto-loot/inventory. That leaves no room for anything else.
How do you quick turn? How do you open the numerous other menus? You can’t pause the game to mess with a cumbersome main menu. What about mail? Using the TP and scrolling through thousands of items or searching for a specific item? Accessing sPvP? W3? Friend menu? LFG? HOW WILL YOU EVEN CHAT?
You would need multiple gamepads to play the game, and I’m pretty sure you are only physically able to efficiently use one at a time (possibly two if you develop the dexterity in your feet).
I get that a lot of people really like to play games using gamepads, but you have to understand that not every game is meant to be played with a game pad. If, existence forbid, they ported GW2 to the consoles, those players better hope that XBO/PS4 have support for a full mouse/keyboard, because they will be at a severe disadvantage otherwise. Then they will simply turn around and say the game sucks, when in reality the players were just lacking common sense.
I remember my 55 Monk or Necro…so much fun farming the underworld.
That was an exploit of the game, so I wouldn’t say go back to this way -also used dual profession.
That was not an exploit, it was a legitimate use of skill. ArenaNet never saw this possibility upon creation of the game and it’s skills and how they worked. When they realized that player ingenuity crashed the ecto market, they addressed it. They updated enemy AI, made small changes to the way some skills worked (not to the point that the build was no longer useful, but a little less effective and would require more player skill and proper skill use/timing), and even changed drop rates.
I love that agro tends to move around to different people. In the grand scheme of things, it makes perfect sense to shift your attention to everything, not just that shiny warrior that is screaming “Look at me and attack only me! Never mind the army that’s attacking you from behind! I am the real threat even though all I’m doing is shouting and holding up a shield!”
That walking and talking falling damage problem has been an issue since long before release.
Before that, though, I strongly urge you to simply ‘block’ the person. That solves 99.9% of the ‘verbal abuse’. I guarantee it. There is also a chat filter, so use that, too. That deals with the remaining .09% of the ‘verbal abuse’.
IF they actively go out of their way to continue this abuse somehow even after you block them, THEN by all means take screenshots and report them.
I personally have 0 issues with the megaserver system, but I’m just going to leave this here.
ArenaNet, go play some GW1. No seriously, go play GW1. Everyone else, read on and try not to sploodge all over your screen.

GW1: 1 GW2: 0
Meh, I choose to play full zerker because it’s fun for me. I like big numbers, I like to destroy my enemies, I like going all out because I can. If you can kill it fast enough, you don’t need much defense/support/heals. As others have stated, you don’t have to play with those people. Use the LFG tool and make your own group. If you’re so inclined, you can report those others for “LFG abuse” if you’re so inclined.
Besides, it’s not like ArenaNet requires you to play zerker. You can play however you want. I’m glad there is no dedicated healing class, I’d never get a group otherwise.
Heh, by you guys following those self-proclaimed commanders and their game-trivializing trains, you further encourage this behavior. You kill the trains, you just might reduce this kind of behavior.
Or you can do what I do and play the game however you want, other players be dammed.
As an investor, I thank you for this info. If NCSofts price drops below a certain threshold I’ll be buying a nice bit. Right now it’s still too high of a price for me to buy the quantities I want. I haven’t looked at NCSoft’s stock in good while since it was over 200 a while back. You can’t make decent returns from a high priced stock unless you can afford massive quantities. At the very least I would appreciate more posts like this.
UNIVERSAL DISCLAIMER: Everything I say, do, or think is offensive to someone somewhere, so read at your own discretion. You have been warned.
Greetings to one and all, and I do mean ALL. I am Zera. I have created a guild that is an open outlet to anyone and everyone. While the game has chat filters, chats that can be toggled off, and a block feature, I want to provide an alternative to all of that.
Thick-Skinned Boots is a guild for venting; to meet and play with like-minded people. There are no topics off limits, you may say whatever you want, argue and discuss whatever you want, and there is no representation requirement. You can represent/stand down/leave whenever you want. Just keep it in guild chat so as not to warrant being reported by those not in the guild.
The only real requirement in this guild is to not be offended and to not render guild chat useless with spam. If you want to vent about how bad of a day you had, how much that <insert noun here> upsets you and you wish horrible things upon, or if you just want to see what kind of people are out there, then consider joining Thick-Skinned Boots.
This is all to bring together like-minded people who are not easily offended and want a tolerant environment to be themselves, but again I must stress that you keep it in guild chat. This guild is not for everyone. This guild is not for the feint of heart.
This guild does not in any way, shape, or form represent the views of ArenaNet, NCSoft, or the Guild Wars 2 community as a whole. This is a strictly exclusive outlet for anyone who wants/needs it. If you only want to represent for a few seconds to say something horrible and then leave, go right ahead. No one in the guild will be offended, and if they are they will be removed from the guild. It’s that simple. Enjoy internet anonymity while it still kind of exists, because it will probably die for good soon.
Threats, comments, stories, sermons, etc. will not be taken seriously and will be dismissed as pure satire/trolling/sarcasm in Thick-Skinned Boots.
What better outlet than in a controlled, tolerant environment? Feel free to check us out, or not. Do not be surprised by a small number of members if you do join, as most people cannot handle this sort of outlet. But if you are interested or curious, you know how to contact me.
Yeah… your post makes no sense. What’s the context?
The word demand is nowhere in my original post. I’m not demanding anything. I’m bringing attention to a real problem.
I know that there are ways of upscaling a certain event to farm giants, but that is still a very unreasonable way of doing it. I’m sure the majority of the player base will not want to sit in one zone, repeating the same event over and over. It’s just a horrible and boring grind. Never mind that it can be done, it’s how it is done that’s the problem.
The achievement is way too impractical. Given the low number of giants in the game, a reduction to 100 is fair. 1000 is ridiculous.
The giant slayer achievement is in need of some serious modification. Expecting players to kill 1000 giants, when there are only three individual creatures in the entire game that count, is a travesty. The only 3 that count are the giant that spawns in an event in Nageling, the one that spawns in a cave on the east side of Harathi Hinterlands during an event, and Kudu’s monster that only spawns at the end of CoE story mode.
Do you really expect your player base to do CoE story mode 1000 times just for that one boss, or to stand around in Nageling for hours on end for the event to start and do that event 1000 times, or in that cave in Harathi Hinterlands 1000 times? Are you nuts?
I am hereby calling for the immediate reduction of the required amount of giants that need to be killed for that achievement from 1000 to no more than 100. All the other creatures in the game can found found in various groups throughout the world with multiple numbers to fight at a time, so a requirement of 1000 kills is not so bad. These giants, however, are so scarce and in situations that most players don’t stay in for long that it’s ridiculous. The undead risen giants don’t even count!
Do the right thing, ArenaNet. Reduce the required amount for the giant slayer achievement or give us hordes of giants to fight, and make the risen undead giants count while you’re at it.
The party system thing is already volatile with the stupid mentality of :
“WE NEED A GUARDIAN OR WE CANT DO THIS!”
or
“NO RANGERS IN OUR PARTY BECAUSE THEY’RE BAD!”
or
“I SHOULD KICK YOU FROM THE GROUP FOR NOT HAVING A STAFF EQUIPPED!”
The trinity would only make it worse. There is no reason whatsoever for a 5-man party to be made a specific way or having players forced to play a certain way. If you really want to sit around town and wait all day for a healer or a tank… go play those games. I’ll stick to GW2 where I can just grab any 4 and go.
Just because some are not able to play anything other than the stupid ‘meta’ does not mean we should suffer from their incompetence.
I like Rift’s wardrobe system. In the hero panel, you have a completely separate tab for a wardrobe. You simply ‘equip’ whatever you want your character to look like without changing your stats at all. In that game, the plate armor wearers can equip any lower rated armor (so they can wear leather or cloth, as well). The end result is that your character is ‘wearing’ the normal gear with the stats you want, but looks like whatever is in the wardrobe. You can even have your character running around in their underwear but still have all their stats. So you can have your warrior look like a mage outfit and still be effective in combat. Oh, and the wardrobe tab has like 7 slots total (you have to unlock some via the in-game store but I think you have 3 by default).
Oh, and you switch between your wardrobe sets with a single click.
ArenaNet, get someone in your staff to play Rift for… 1 hour. That’s all you need to see how awesome that wardrobe system is. Your level 1 character can look like a max level character if you wanted it to.
Except fiction can also be a reflection of the society we are living in.
Only if you attribute it as such. Stop treating a fictional fantasy game like a reflection of reality (BECAUSE IT kittenING ISNT) and there will be no problems.
Everything that has ever been said, done, or thought of is offensive to someone somewhere. It doesn’t matter what it is: If it exists, someone is offended by it. So, stop taking offense to everything and stop with the PC already. It has gotten way out of hand. It is because of PC that we wont go to Cantha (because NCSoft thinks Asian themes in games are offensive).
Repeat after me: death to PC. This whole thing is only a fictional game and has absolutely NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on real life.
In all my time playing this game, I never once thought to myself “We need a tank/healer in our party.” If I take too much damage or get killed, it’s my own fault.
Here is how I play:
- It is my fault if I miss a dodge.
- It is my fault if I don’t pay attention to attack animations.
- It is my fault if I use my self-healing skill at a bad time.
- It is my fauIt if I don’t equip various skills to increase my overall effectiveness.
- It is my fault that I can’t kill my foe fast enough to prevent too much damage to myself.
It is not the fault of another player. It is not because we don’t have a dedicated healing class. It is not because I have some ‘tank’ drawing the enemy’s attention.
If you can kill it fast enough, not bite more than you can chew, dodge properly, heal yourself at the right time, and use the right skills as the situations call for it, then you don’t need a healer or a tank. If you can’t then you need a healer or a tank to do your dirty work for you.
The best defense is an even better offense. This has yet to be proven false. Attack to defend.
I said it before and I’ll say it again: the game’s economy, the exchange rate for gems/gold, and the RNG in this game were all intentionally designed so that, eventually, people will pretty much have to spend real money to buy gems to get something they really want.
Weapon ticket scraps, items that only drop for a short period of time and then never again drop, one-time events that give some of the best drops but will never be repeated (ancient Karka), armor skins. The casual player base cannot afford to buy things with in-game gold.
Since ArenaNet’s target audience is the casual player base, they know they are the ones who will spend the most money just to stay relevant.
Culturally speaking, women are much more acceptable half naked than men are. There’s also that problem with people who get offended by their own masculinity by seeing other men exposed or wearing that armor itself. It just causes more problems than you think.
Its the exact same reason why you see far more naked women than men in mature content… its just how our culture works.
You can always influence how your culture works and the more we see naked men around, the more normal it becomes. I don’t really remember anyone complaining about the more skin-showing male outfits we currently have after 1+ years of playing, so I think the community is ready for more. On the contrary I hear often on this game and elsewhere about the gender inequality and how silly it is that men DON’T have lesser clothed armor. In a way GW2 (among few other mmo’s) is very much left behind on what is socially acceptable (inequality about male/female armor).
I think it’s just a popular belief that most people don’t want more showing male armor and it’s the sheep that scream the loudest from shock when the social norm is broken to show how well they follow those norms in fear of being labeled as a weird person.
But it’s OK, once it become more normal, they’ll become more used to it and they’ll have no problems with it eventually. It’s not like they get all disgusted when they see males in swimsuits at the beach. They just don’t have any real reasons to not want naked male skin in the game.
I personally wouldn’t care if there were ‘skimpy’ armor for males. I simply wouldn’t wear them because I personally as an individual think it would not look good, but that’s just me. I’ll wear the plain old armor we have now. If folks want to wear more revealing clothes on their male characters, go right on ahead. If anything, it will be more accurate to the Spartans from 300, and everyone loves that movie! Actually… if we had the exact same armor as the 300 Spartans from the movie (but the broom-helm would be a must, and that awesome crimson cape) I would totally wear that.
Saw these a few days ago.
Those images amused me. It’s so true: distraction/deception are a very good and efficient way to defeat your enemies. If you can kill them fast enough, you don’t need much protection.
True… I just wanted her dead because she was so unworthy to be called a real villain. Lion’s Arch deserved a better villain. Regardless, I prefer this option over the insanity card.
+1 for more armor options, even skimpy male options. I’m all for options.
-1,000,000,000 for making this a post about sexism. Keep it to yourself.
So I should reward other players for their ‘luck’ with my in-game gold? Forget that.
Zerker won’t get nerfed enough for any thing to change.
Besides, the problem is not zerker. The gear does what it should do, the problem is the content is so old and the mechanics and ai so terrible that there is no reason to fear for your life enough to build any defense.
Indeed. We have little incentive to play as anything more than what is fun. I love dealing lots of damage. Sure, it’s also fun to play a support role and help others do more damage or survive a little longer, but nothing is as satisfying as those big numbers.
To prove a point.
I have 14 characters, 13 of which are lvl 80. Multiple races and professions because I’d rather quickly change out a character than run back to town, reset traits, respec, and carry around 5 different sets of equipment on a single character.
So… first I’ll start by saying thank you for:
- Finally letting us kill that psychopath who shall not be named. You’ve been teasing us like mad for over a year. Putting your player base through more than a year of a tease is a horrible thing to do.
- Not playing the insanity card with that psychopath who shall not be named (that thing deserves nothing but OBLIVION) and having her suddenly switch sides and become an ally. I would have most likely quit playing the game if that were to happen.
- FINALLY doing something that is at least seemingly related to the dragons… even though it’s not much to go off of. For over a year we have done absolutely NOTHING that had anything to do with the dragons. I will say that the conclusion so far is more of a conveniently set up “This was the plan all along” scenario, because that was way too much of a set up for a simple cinematic that had a mouth. So for now it’s a toss up. The next chapter better be 99% focused on an elder dragon, ANY elder dragon. I don’t care.
- At least partially listening to your customers and bringing another set of GW1 weapons to the game.
Before you read any further, please understand I don’t hate ArenaNet. I want them to do well, but here’s where the politeness stops. It’s now time for some tough love
- – - – - – - – - -
How dare you milk your customers and loyal GW1 fanbase by once again hiding those weapons behind Black Lion Chest RNG? Many of us have repeatedly asked that you not do that. Give us the weapons outright for a set price of gems. As I’ve said numerous times before: I understand that ArenaNet is in the business of making a profit, not necessarily by pleasing their customers, but by using whatever business strategy works to bring in the dough. Your Black Lion Keys are that strategy. I get it: you have mouths to feed and bills to pay, but don’t milk your customers like this. FIXED GEM PRICE FOR WEAPONS LIKE YOU DID FOR THE ARMORS! You will STILL make a nice profit. Look at the numbers for the Zodiac armor. I am more than sure you made a very nice profit off of that… and the next paragraph explains why.
You purposely designed the algorithm/formula for the exchange rate of gems and gold so that, eventually, it will be completely inefficient and non-economical to use in-game gold to buy gems, forcing your customers to pay real money to get something they really want (I know because I and many others helped you test it). You didn’t hire an economist to design your in-game economy for ‘dynamic’ purposes, you hired that economist to design the economy for profit. I know the stuff is entirely optional and not necessary, but DONT MILK YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS. You’ve done this more than once, and it needs to stop.
You effectively charge your casual player base (the ones that don’t have time to farm hundreds or thousands of gold to buy thousands of gems to buy a few keys to have a sliver of a chance to get a weapon ticket scrap that that you need at least 10 of to actually get a weapon) way more than a $15 monthly subscription fee because they have almost no choice but to spend real money to buy gems to get those “LIMITED TIME ONLY BUY THEM NOW OMG THEY WILL BE GONE FOREVER!” deals. It’s not just RNG, it’s EXPONENTIAL RNG that increases significantly after a short period of time, and it’s just wrong.
I opened 50 BL chests and got less than 5 ticket scraps and no actual claim ticket. That was 4200 gems, or more than $50. At that rate I would need to spend several hundred dollars to get enough scraps to get ONE claim ticket. I have 2 claim tickets, but I got those over the course of many months. By the time I have enough for a weapon, the cost of the weapon I want will have increased 5 fold. EXTORTION! A weapon skin should not cost more than $5 in real money, especially if it is a one time use item. The pay-2-win games offer more for our hard earned money than this.
Look, I’m not asking that you make rare drops more common. I’m telling you to stop milking your customers for cash they way you have been. Times are tough for all of us. Games like this are supposed to be an escape, not a financial trick to get rich.
- – - – - – - – -
Read the next sentence repeatedly and out loud until you get it:
A set price of gems to directly buy the weapon skins we want without Black Lion Chest RNG (like you did with the armor skins and various other services) is more than sufficient to make profit without treating your customers as if they bleed money.
- – - – - – - – -
This exponential RNG needs to stop. The death of that psychopath who shall not be named can only do so much to keep us playing.
I haven’t seen this topic brought up yet (it probably has been in the past, but I am not on the forums too much), but anyone else wish you could pick up loot that was right by your corpse? There have been many times when I’d be roaming in W3, and just as I am about to finish soloing a camp, a zerg comes in, kills me, and steals my camp. I die, and there are several loot bags I didn’t see or didn’t drop until after I died. Unless I am revived on the spot I will not get those loot bags. They disappear after about a minute, and it takes like 5 minutes to traverse the map to get there. Those loot bags I never got because of this were my precursor drops.
It would be great if we could loot bags that dropped right after we died. We did earn them, after all.
I took a gander underneath the drill.

All I saw is that the drill is right on the heart of GW1’s LA. It’s rage inducing. Pure, unadulterated, hatred-fueled rage. Scarlet must die. Period.
Here’s my letter to Scarlet:
Scarlet,
I am pleased to inform you that your 20k Eviscerate is still scheduled to be delivered on time. May it be glorious and overly violent, because you deserve oblivion. Seriously, oblivion: to be forgotten completely because you are a blight on the name of Guild Wars.

You guys can sit there and wait for an NPC to do something. I’ve got a fight with Scarlet.
Yes to the mini with proceeds to a charity. Absolutely not to an exclusive item to a player that no one else can get. I have nothing against this Christina, whoever she is, but discrimination of any sort is wrong, even if the discrimination is in favor of someone less fortunate. I doubt Christina wants special treatment. I’m willing to bet that she’d prefer to be treated equally like everyone else.
Humanism FTW.
I try so very hard not to think about this because I’ve already done the personal story a few times on several characters… the way it is now, the entire plot of the main story is completely broken. Lion’s Arch was a central point in a very key part of the plot, and now it’s gone, taking the game’s plot with it.
So yeah, it appears that ArenaNet has no intention of letting us fight the elder dragons because they are no longer a threat. They probably don’t even exist anymore. Shoot, they probably went back to sleep for a few million years. The game’s entire plot has been shifted to this poor excuse of an antagonist named Scarlet. Lion’s Arch deserved a better foe, and so did the player base.
As I’ve said before, I hope that this Scarlet fiasco was all just one bad dream of our characters and we ‘wake up’ a few days after having destroyed Zhaitan, and remembering that “Oh right, I was on my way to fight Primordus/Kralkatorrik/Mordremoth/Jormag/Bubbles. I really gotta lay off those spiked ales. That Scarlet thing sure made for a weird dream.”
