Where is the 2v2, 3v3 competitive arenas?

I doubt this would split the community much…since these matches would actually START without playing the wait-in-line simulator for 10 minutes aka Unranked/Ranked Queue in Heart of the Mists.

Meaning people would actually get to pvp, and more people would probably use this instead.

Will GW2 become retroactively improved?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

By this, I mean with eventually the older zones of GW2 use this new form of progression being introduced in Heart of Thorns?

(See: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2015/02/03/how-guild-wars-2s-mastery-system-could-change-mmos-forever?+main+twitter)

Will there be a way for the developers to make places like Queensdale or Fields of Ruin a place to just go as an 80 and feel needed?

Will the older, original zones of GW2 become what they originally told us about? the mythical ideal that the entire game is actually end-game? and was fun, challenging, and rewarding for every level?

Perhaps new areas will be opened above or below these zones using mastery points, unlocking “hard-mode” content for veteran players, while the fresh newcomers merrily push along completing events and leveling up?

Could…it…be!

[Needed] PvP Tutorial for New Players

in PvP

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

This is an open letter: ArenaNet, your new players joining PvP STILL do not know how to set up their builds, STILL some beleive that armor (armor rating) has 0 effect on their character in PvP and STILL do not understand some basic fundamental design principles in place for the PvP environment!

  • The most important issue that needs to be addressed currently is that players are not properly reminded or directed to the PvP Builds window, and since the new patch makes you unable to open this window (without a hotkey) during a practice match, most players stumble into sPvP with the pre-build traits/runes/amulet/etc. thinking they are running what they have in other game-modes.

But on top of that, I still see we have this not-so-great PvP tutorial, and pre-set pvp builds that players don’t even know they have loaded, because the game doesn’t tell how anything works in the sPvP lobby. (See: Any Class with Soldier’s Amulet w/ Rune of Lyssa)

Players are never directed to the training grounds properly either…SO how about:

For the very first time (prior to ever joining a pvp match/ranked/unranked/practice)

(Optional)All PvP reward tracks are locked until you complete a basic “Training Track” that would involve mechanics in the training area and progress something similar to: (excluding cannons…because no current maps use them)

Each of these will have a popup window (like hints) that would describe actions and rewards for these mechanics. (the hints/popup descriptions will be in bold)

  • Visit the Training Grounds area.
(Here, we will learn about the basic mechanics of the various PvP Environments.)
  • Open your PvP Build window.
(This screen will help you build your character to fight alongside teammates in PvP matches. The Traits, Sigils and Amulet are all you need to get started in PvP. These will change as you swap between PvP and PvE areas, so be sure to open this window when you enter any PvP zone to double-check your setup.)
  • Rally an ally in the Training Grounds.
(Keeping your allies alive is important in all game-types, but even more so in a PvP environment, so be sure to revive fallen allies to keep your team strong.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in the Training Grounds.
(Just as important as reviving allies, defeating an enemy is also a great way to strengthen your team, and make your enemies rethink their strategy.)
  • Use a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(This secondary objective is located on the Battle of Khylo PvP map and allows you to bombard an area with heavy hitting Trebuchet shots to give your allies the edge in battle.)
  • Destroy a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(Both teams in Battle of Khylo start the match with a trebuchet ready for them, so destroying the enemies is a great way to reduce any advantage they can gain from it.)
  • Repair the broken Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(Even if your Trebuchet is destroyed, or you destroy the enemy team’s Trebuchet, the Repair Kit is a tool that can make it usable again during a match.)
  • Gain a temporary buff by defeating The Chieftain or Svanir in the Training Grounds.
(By defeating these neutral monsters on the Forest of Niflhel, you will grant your team an instant 25 points as well as a helpful buff to boost your team’s power and stats.)
  • Kill the enemy Guild Lord.
(On the Legacy of the Foefire map, there is a powerful NPC heavily guarded in each team’s base. By defeating this NPC you will grant your team an instant 150 points.)
  • Channel and capture a neutral node in the Training Grounds.
(Many maps in PvP require you to channel for a brief moment in order to capture an objective or buff. Such as the Orb of Ascension on Spirit Watch, the Cannon on Skyhammer and various buffs on Temple of the Silent Storm.)

>>This is where the Training Area stops, and the in-game training begins<<

  • Capture a neutral capture point in any PvP match.
  • Capture an enemy controlled Capture Point in any PvP match.
  • Defend a capture point your team controls for 10 seconds in any PvP match.
  • Rally an ally in any PvP match.
  • Stomp an Enemy in any PvP match.

-Done-

they should just remove the account bound nature of the base materials now.

since there is a massive influx of them to veteran players / 80s, the time-gating, required high crafting etc. should be enough of a hurdle to create ascended.

Just make the base material able to be sold, done and done, its not like this stuff is rare….

Re: Commander Edition

in WvW

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

Purchasing:

-Pve: 300g, same as they are implementing

-WvW: Rank X + 3000 Badges of Honor

Means people who play WvW, get the tag their way, people who play PvE, get the tag their way…

But this will inevitably fall on deaf ears anyways, but I will replug my old Commander ideas:

Since the old one was locked due to a necromancer bringing it back….I figure since it is still actually relevant and also valid, I shall repost for the purpose of discussion.
Commander UI: A map/UI window that allows commanders to view all sub-commander’s locations and their nearby allies and enemies via map dots (same radius as normal player range) as well as placed siege of all types (icons for siege will be displayed on the map)

The commander UI will allow the commander to view any supply currently located in any server owned towers/keeps/camp/etc. on the UI screen. (Ex. Location Name – Supply:125)

Custom waypoint markers and path markers will be given to the commander and will be displayed on the map and mini-map of any sub-commanders, with an option to be displayed to all, or specific sub-commanders.

Some markers may include:
– Arrows for directional guidance
– “No Symbol” for halting movement to certain zones or areas, or localize movement
– Stars/Diamonds/Circles/Squares for team stacking/movement
– Unique siege icons to pinpoint locations for siege placement such as ballistae/trebuchets/catapults.
– Custom icons for hotspot identification or reinforcement routes.
– Shield icons for defense locations

Commanders will be able to also directly use the Draw feature on the Ui map and will be shown to all active/or specified sub-commanders.

A side-bar on the window will also display the number of sub-commanders/other commander locations on the other maps for WvW uses (ability to see how many sub-commanders are located in each borderlands + EB listed in the window)

Sub-commanders (current commander system): Current commanders will be now labeled as sub-commanders, with the ability to access and alter their commander icon to various shapes and colors to help keep themselves locatable among other sub-commanders (one may have a pink star, another may have a green circle)

The color chosen will also determine their chat name color when using a new commander chat (similar to Team chat) allowing players to identify specific commanders orders directly in chat. They will also have the ability to place custom waypoint markers that can be directly linked into chat for pinpoint team movement.
Commander: This will now be a position limited to 1 per map and have direct contact with all sub-commanders, view all members within sub-commanders squads as well as their supply counts, and access to a new custom UI (see above). The position will require a new pre-requisite to become a commander.

With the influx of gold into the economy, the numbers of commanders have risen considerably, as well as the confusion associated with new commanders in both WvW and PvE environments. Limiting the “high tier” commander to 1 per map, and having a new pre-requisite (maybe even a small test given by an NPC, that simply shows they are capable of commanding) would help alleviate the overall messiness of the current system.

Note: This was from an older post, some of these ideas are done and done….but some can still be improved upon.

As much as I would like to see a /resign or /surrender option built in, it would have to be done right.

I have yet to be in a ranked or unranked match where both teams would hit the ready button while sitting in their base, so I doubt a /resign would happen either.

But I will say that they could revamp the UI for the ready button to show the amount of ready players underneath it (5 green bars for allies, 5 red bars for opposition) to visually show how close a ready-up actually is.

My post in the “Bad Matchups” thread is the reason I won’t be touching the Ranked/Unranked again thank you. It was already a pain getting top10 soloQ before the big patch, now it’s an exponentially worse pvp experience in general.

But I guess if I want a proper match I will need to start going through the hassle of choosing my own servers from a different tab from now on.

I figured there may have been some extra checks involved though, considering the game remembers your last server (and highlights it in the browser) that it would be able to void it, or at most, re-join that server a single time before it throws that info away. At times I get the same server 3-4 times in a row before it finds a new one.

This never used to be the case oddly enough…

Z-Axis Lessen HoT Experience?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

This is one thing that is lingering in the back of my mind, bugging me a little bit.

The Z-Axis in this game is still in need of fixing, for many abilities, skills, movement, etc.

With that in mind, does anyone believe that unless these types of issues become resolved, they would lessen your enjoyment of the HoT areas? These areas are supposedly the most vertical and difficult to traverse that we will encounter in the game.

In case anyone wonders what I mean by Z-axis issues, a few examples would be:

  • Stairs/Hills causing multiple instance of falling damage while moving
  • Leaps not registering, or redirecting due to slight height changes
  • Ranger GS 3 standing still and breaking when moving over uneven terrain
  • Warrior F1 Hammer not reacting, or lag/teleporting a player when used on uneven terrain
  • Projectile obstruction over uneven terrain
  • Projectiles not traveling through the “air”, instead follow the ground at a certain height, so they never hit targets over gaps.
  • Teleports cause players to appear at the start of a gap instead of its intended location.

There are plenty of issues involving movement, projectiles, and other game mechanics that simply break when they encounter the Z-axis, I can only hope they get resolved before the big release.

Anyone else worried?

Obviously one man can’t take on an Elder Dragon single-handedly and hope to defeat it. Detsiny’s Edge couldn’t defeat the Shatterer with the help of Glint. And that was just a general of Kralkatorrik.

(But Rytlock could definitely pull it off:P He’s just too kitten:)) )

However if the fight is like the current battle with Zhaitan. You on a ship spamming button 1, even a monkey could beat Mordremoth, not to mention Rytlock.

Destiny’s Edge fought Kralk, not the Shatterer…

*Your* predictions for Character Slot Sale

What is your predictions to:

1.) Whether or not Character Slots will be on sale between now and the release of HoT (or even the demo)

2.) The magnitude of the sale, if/when it occurs.

For me, I say there is probably an 80% chance of a sale for Character Slots between now and the release, and probably not a sale between now and the demo.

Unfortunately I believe it would only be a 25% sale.

If you haven’t done arena in ages, how do you expect the game to know who to match you with? A wild guess is as good as it’ll get when you first start. The more you play, the more accurate it should get.

And like I said before, no amount of coding can prevent sabotage, so keep an eye out for that as well. It happens to me a lot.

That’s the thing, it isn’t just me, look at the entire team…the coding is just broken. And if you ahve not played much ranked/unranked it shoudn’t place you in any high-end brackets.

- can I purchase the game, and send a code to the recipient? (is it a simple code? or can I forward the email?)

- does gifting in any way, diminish their ability to obtain customer service support? (since they were not the original payee)

- is there a time limit to when a code would need to be activated? (if i were to purchase multiple copies as prizes/giveaways)

The reply I got was:

Normally, purchases made online from us can be used only on the account where the purchase was made. As such, it is not possible to purchase serial codes for friends. Usually, we can recommend purchasing copies directly from a local or online retailer, which can be given as a gift.

However for Guild Wars 2, since our system requires an e-mail address to be provided during the purchase process, you may enter your friend’s e-mail address, and after purchase, e-mail or postal mail the code/receipt to your friend. Alternately, you can enter your own e-mail address, receive the receipt/code, and forward the e-mail to them.

The way it is worded makes me think there is no way to gift, but also a few ways to gift, which is why the response isn’t clear to me.

It would seem, I could purchase the game from online retailers that are not ArenaNet and that would let me send a code, or purchase, and forward and email…but thte first paragraph claims it would require “the account the purchase was made”…which would be mine?

Has anyone else been able to gift GW2 to people relatively easily? I have passed up buying multiple copies on sales due to the fact that there is no easy way to gift/a proper FAQ explaining the gifting process.

EDIT: Adding the proper way to gift in the OP for other players:

Yes, there is a way to gift a copy of Guild Wars 2. The steps that blue outlined are accurate:

  • Purchase the game through the in-game store
  • Upon receive of your purchase confirmation e-mail, relay that intact (with serial code unused) to your intended gift recipient. (Hint: Check the recipient e-mail address carefully.)
  • Your gifted friend or family member creates the account with the serial code that you sent him or her.

Do you find the Tomes of Knowledge useful?

I am not an alt person, but have every class to 80 and geared.

I prefer PvP so these things flow like water…

I wish there was another use for them, but I suppose skill points are not…terrible.

The problem with being a player who only plays a few classes as “mains” is that alot of these items feel useless to me after a short period of time (shorter than it would be for an altoholic)

My main has burnt skill points on traits and bloodstone shards already (and I have no intention of going for a legendary) and currently still has (after those purchases):

1,422 Skill Points
397 Tomes of Knowledge
629 Scrolls of Knowledge

Please give me another use for these…or at least let me customize my PvP track to replace the Tomes with something more personalized for me.

Apologies if this is already announced, but can we confirm the bug preventing us from actually leaving queue will be fixed prior to any penalty for denying queue pop?

Yes. I have fixed this bug and the fix will be LIVE on Tuesday.

My inability to search for the thread, and the fact that the search feature on this forum is non-existent…

I am sure, in the past, I saw a thread from a PvP dev that stated they wanted to push patches when they were ready instead of grouping them into “patch days”

I will have to try looking for it again

because, for whatever reason, they completely removed the ability to setup underwater weapons, sigils, and skills in the pvp build window, so people would end up in the map without 1/2 their abilities and weapons.

I would love to see the map come back, but altered, maybe water removed instead, or replaced with another mechanic (quick sand from http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nomad%27s_Isle)

I still run around with the SAB soundtrack playing in the background, normally I would just get bored and go play something else, but just having the soundcloud set to repeat and running around, I can play the game for infinitely longer >.>

I would like to add, since no one else has pointed this out, that the jade block that the biconics are looking at, has a tarp over it

Our current version (or at least from the instance) does not have a tarp, so it seems like this is actually being moved? transported? something…..why would they change this one little detail…

Oddly enough, I just went through the portal to the starter island you get 1 time when entering pvp on a new character.

It actually has some of the basics for stomping, ressing, and capping points.

But it is not enforced in any way shape and form, and can be completely skipped by going to the little green star on the map anyways.

This is a bit of a shame to see in all honesty.

Still doesn’t actually wear TA armor, every other vendor uses their appropriate armor varient, yet this poor sylvari is stuck with heavy Dark armor.

I also believe it is the Ghostly Hero, with the ascension glyphs being a nice nod as well. The “ancient weapon” in the back of the room that you find in a box.

But mainly because of the small tidbit they forgot in the game before they patched it out, which is the Ghostly Heroes Throne:

Pretty sure that was pointed out by lore people to be the teleporters that we used in the Crystal Desert in GW1.

Pretty sure that doesn’t make it true, I still have GW installed, go into the Dunes of Despair mission, it is the exact same model, the teleporters are actually a different shape, and taller. They also include the 4 attunement nodes which are lacking here.

“lore people” lol

I don’t get any lag, rarely at any rate.

I would appreciate them fixing alot of the more annoying bugs and issues though. Such as their Z-Axis issues, fall damage bugs, leaps/rushes, etc.
