Same problem here.
Especially when 1 team gets 2-3 guards/bunkers and the other one has none.

Can’t the MM system give both teams one of each profession, if there’s 2 times the same prof?

This is a player problem. Players can easily switch to other characters before the match starts, but everyone wants to do their own thing.

I believe I read somewhere last patch or the one before that you cannot change. ONce you enter a match at all you cannot make character changes. Someone even told me yesterday that you can no long swap weapons or skills including elites before the match starts one you accept and log in to the match. Maybe someone can confirm this.

explosives-forceful explosives, incendiary powder, grenadier
alchemy-invigorating speed, backpack regenerator, automated response
tools-speedy kits
grenade kid, bomb kit and you can choose the third. i usually go with tool kit because the pull makes me feel good but you can take elixir s or elixir gun or rocket boots and they will all fit in some way. i use 5 nightmare runes and a necromancer rune (maybe there is a better rune setup but idk) and geomancy and corruption sigils.

Its a little demanding mechanically but once you get used to all the button dancing its actually a little faceroll(even tho it as an high skill ceiling), but its very effective and fun.

EDIT: regarding the post above mine; While hgh is simpler in mechanics, it’s a lot harder staying alive and with all the boon steal going around it’s not really a good build these days.

yeah, that works if you’re using a phantasm spec (which sucks) and playing against idiots. if you played mesmer like you say you do, you’d know most mesmers play shatter and that the phantasms are maybe 1/3 of the damage.

I have to agree here…you are talking about zerker phantasm which is just not viable in tournys atm and with shatter you let your phantasms attack once before shattering

I don’t know where the notion comes from that phantasms deal no damage in shatter builds. Reality is that phantasm damage is always the top damage entry on your death breakdown against even a shatter mesmer.

Apparently most mesmers don’t realize that though. Mesmer is the one class that deals so much damage out of nowhere as no other and the shatter itself is just a very small portion of the total.

As far as phantasms dying, yeah, they absolutely can in certain team scenarios. But if they hit even once, they are already easily dealing more damage than whatever weapon skill another class would use for that cool down.

Blurred Frenzy – super high reward for almost no risk. 2.5s evade on a 10s CD

Distortion – up to 4 second immunity to condi, power and CC, which you can even have back to back for up to 8 seconds with a trait in a line that you invest 30 in anyway. This is the equivalent of a warrior using Berserker Stance, Balanced Stance and Endure pain by the way.

How is that for risk vs. reward?

I’m sorry but if a mesmer killed you with phantasms then he sucks because he cant land shatters, and YOU suck harder for beeing hit by phantasms till dead against a shatter mesmer. You got two chances to see phantasm skills coming, the animation casted and the phantasm animation itself. A well landed 3 clones + player body shatter can hit for 8k+ damage. That is hardly “a very small portion”.

And blurred frenzy has risk, specially against a warrior. We have to get into melee range to use it properly. Mesmer is a glass canon, melee against a warrior is a risk. It’s much safer to use staff.

There is a big difference from warrior stances and mesmer distortion. A mesmer with distortion is a non threatening 0 clone predictable mesmer. A warrior with the right stance on is an unstoppable tunneling machine.

PS: And we are not playing martyr, mesmer is also op. but at least teams have never stacked mesmers and they have never defined a meta on their own and actually take some level of skill and positioning to play.

none. some classes have more complex mechanics (like mesmer and engineer) but once you get that down, the skills you need to succeed at this game are the same for every class. except for some of the current meta builds

If you didn’t notice changes to IR then you haven’t played s/d yet. Just try messing around with the npc warrior in the mists… that kittener will chain stun you 4 times in a row. You don’t notice a difference? Not a good troll dude….

I really doubt that the matchmaking looks to balance the classes since the queue is account bound, as in, you can swap to any toon before the match starts.

yeah its a bad decision and it takes back something that was unique to gw2’s pvp comparing to other mmos: the level playing field. Even if its not a major unbalance, I can’t try all the new heals by myself to better know how to counter them when I’m up against them. And that was something that gw2 was perfect in.

I know that probably has been a post like that previously but dont get me wrong, downed state is very useful in Dungeon and generally PvE and in many occasions in WvW, but is completely annoying and useless in PvP. For example something that happened to everyone, you were dueling someone and you beat him while he`s on downed state you are trying to finish him and someone else takes advantage of your low health and defeats you and you neither got a kill or had the time to escape because you were busy FINISHING THE PREVIOUS PLAYER!!! i mean what??? and thats just one example of why downed state doesnt have place to an intense game feature such as PvP! Anet if you want your game to have at least a chance in Esports little things like that, have to change!

Never gonna happen. Downed state is fine. This is a team game and you don’t defeat an opponent until you stomp them. Until you haven’t done that, there will be a chance that a team mate will come and turn the fight around.

Downed state demands quick and smart thinking in team fights and it’s an integral part of gw2. I suggest you get used to downed state and understand the great plays that can be made with it.

Down state is stupid in pvp, when some dies they should be dead unless your teammate has a res signet.

When you are in down state you aren’t dead yet.

These ap farmers don’t understand that not everything has to cater to their needs, as in, not everything can be handed to them. They’re mad that there’s a daily that rewards pvp’ers and not just the gw2 standard farmer/zerger.

You ap farmers need to realize something. The Achievement points don’t belong to you, YOU made it YOUR obsession! Since achievement points now award skins, it’s no longer only interesting for people who farm it, there’s a reason for other people to get to 3k or 6k achievements, and among those people are the regular pvpers that deserver the skins just as much as you and for whom these new dailies are easy to complete and come naturally. Achievement points DO NOT belong to you. I’m pretty sure these dailies were made to rewards PVP PLAYERS, not you that already have 10k+ achievements, but THE PVP PLAYERS that are playing since release and have 2k achievement points.

No, this won’t make eles nowhere near viable, the trait sucks. It makes eles a no skill hard counter to necros, but also makes them absolute crap against power builds because eles will have an useless 30 point trait investment against power builds. This is just bad game design. Its complete rock paper scissors and a perfect example of why good players quit this game. This trait is just complete awful. There is nothing a necro can do against this, no matter how bad the ele is, the ele will win this match up.

I’m sorry this is ridiculous. The nerve of you ap farmers to think that you SHOULD be able to get ALL possible daily APs, and that anet should cater to your farming needs, instead of also giving pvp players means to get aps (tell me how much aps are there to get in pve vs in pvp?). I know pvp players are a minority, but there are people that don’t touch pve at all and that deserve the achievement points chests too.

What even is this post? The only instant burst guards have is JI (does about 500 damage on a crit), and smite condition (does about 2.3k with a condition on a crit).

i meant instant as in an instant moment in time lol For example the focus 5, cast mace 2, smite condition mid cast and that’s like, potential 15k damage from 3 skills delivered at the same time. I meant instant as in the same time frame not the activation time.

The purpose of the skill isn’t getting hit, the passive heal is supposed to be just a little passive bonus. You’re completely ignoring the active part, which is what I think arena net really wanted to bring up with this skill. And the active mechanic seems really good and fun, maybe the numbers are too low but the skill looks promising.

I don’t understand all this QQ necros are making, you guys got an incredibly strong heal and if this one ends up being too bad I’m sure Anet will buff it.

What specifically did John say about the heal? I’m really curious, cause I’m glad to hear they know its bad…

he said it would be super strong in team fights for spiking down targets, that it will add an additional 6k damage to said target.
The idea is there, i just dont think it will work right now.

Ok, so aftermath of the twitch preview.

Mesmer heal will be too strong on PU mesmers, just too strong, they will be unkillable. They don’t show up much on tpvp but some of us like to roam wvw and we get them every now and then, and 300 hps passively is just too much.

Ele heal seemed a little bad but karl probably had some rushed up spec on so it was hard to judge the healing based on damage. Seems more of a pve heal with that blast finisher. The arcane wave change tho, it it is still instant damage with no travel time, its broken…

The engineer heal… There’s not much to say. Bunker engineers everywhere, 12k heal? really? Even with the 45 second cd…

The necro heal might not be as bad as I was thinking. The concept is really good, maybe power/well necros will be a thing now? The meta could use something that actually requires coordination and attention to your surroundings for once…

Guadian heal also sounds good, high risk-high reward, miss it = you’re dead.

I couldnt see if warriors got any animation with their heal or if we’ll have to look at buff bar to spot the heal. In case there’s an animation its a good heal, if there’s no animation and we have to look at the buff bar, it’s bad. I don’t want to have to look through the “You got a capture point!” announcer spam. Either way, it would be a far more enjoyable fight if warriors used this over healing signet.

The spirit heal looks bad, and i hope it is bad, for obvious reasons…

Venom heal is a good team fight/coordination concept. But it won’t be enough to make venomshare a thing. Also that cd is too much…

Overall not as bad as I was expecting and I’m kind of relieved. Hope this takes the game to a better state. Only the engie heal and the mesmer one seemed like too much to me.

PS: I have a suggestion to reduce the clutter caused by spirit rangers (I can’t post on forums anymore, so if anyone likes it and wants to make a suggestion thread, go for it, I’d do it myself if I could).
What if the spirits, instead of summoning another npc, gave a buff to the ranger’s pet (ex: Wolf), and all the spirit buffs were applied to that pet? Then the actives caused that pet to do the standard animations.

Hambow is not easy to play. You have to use your berserker stance wisely and make sure you land your cc’s and attacks well. Mellee class is never easy. People overestimate this class really bad. I hope people will stop calling a class OP just because they don’t know how to counter it.

Super cheese category: Hambow warrior, spirit ranger, s/d thief, condi necro.

Cheese but not as strong as before mentioned cheese: mm necro, pu mesmer(our new overlords of cheese past 10th december).

Traits/builds/skills that will continue to further make this game a piece of kitten: Diamond skin, fresh air, signet of vampirism, mesmer new signet, automated response.

As you see, you got a lot of options if you really want to explore all the cheesy mechanics of gw2. Have fun with this awesome game!

EDIT: Like the guy above me said, its all cheesy atm. Even less known and not as good specs, such as interrupt mesmer, are about complete cheese and rng.

This game is a joke, every single meta build is a joke. I don’t think i have ever had such a frustrating pvp experience as I’m having in this game currently. And arena net won’t do anything about it, it’s pretty clear that the game is in the direction they wan’t it to be, or else they wouldn’t be adding another spirit and more passive heals and traits. This game is dead.

PS: Can’t wait for deathmatch to show even more how severe the balance problems of this game are.

My thoughts, exactly. I guess if I’m playing my thief and I see a Necro/Mesmer with the new skills, I’ll just run.

if you hit us for 1-100k we will only be able to heal for 300 and damage you for 350.
you should be able to burst us down or hit us hard enough so that this heal will be ineffective.

Thieves in spvp are like the 4th highest burst atm. Our burst isnt strong anymore, necros were already a hard matchup for use where 1 fear, 1 condition burst would loose us the fight. Against this signet? Yeah….
Who knows, the signet might end up sucking, but it’s still stupid.

Water spirit sucks (if the proc has a 10 second icd has i understood it), defiant stance isn’t clear, but it won’t be anywhere near healing signet, the guardian heal sucks and the ele heal sucks even more! LOL

And then we got kitten like AED?! What the kitten arena net? Engies went from having a though time against necros to a complete hard counter to them (automated response + AED))) ).

Signet of the ether?! LOL PU mesmer was already annoying enough when you had the bad luck of meeting one, how about them 800 hps PU mesmers guys?

The only heal that could be interesting is the venom heal and that’s about it.

You had a good patch coming with good ideas, even though you had the diamond skin change there, and then, you throw everything to kitten with these heals.

LoL is a great game, really, you only played against bots and you think you can tell how good the game is? That actually should tell you why LoL is better than gw2 since you start the game playing unranked games against bots, while in gw2 people start in the middle of mmr, get stomped by experienced players and then quit.

The game does get extremely more fun against other people, and even more fun when you play with friends. The cds are long because its a much more tactical game rather than action oriented unlike gw2, it’s all about managing your skills, wearing down your opponent while getting minions and waiting for an opportunity to go for the kill. So it is also possible that you will never like LoL.

Now there is one thing that i find in gw2 just as much as I find it in LoL which is… 4 v 5’s, griefers, trolls.

Also, you can never compare the games, it would be like saying that you don’t like online chess and prefer mortal kombat because chess has too little dynamic and action.

PvP players = Second-class citizens.

I know you want to fix all the issues that wow has to offer ANet, but right now hordes of players are going back to wow for their Battlegrounds. Don’t let them win for such a simple and obvious reason.

NO, just no. You are completely wrong. You think tiered gear is the problem? You think arena in wow is doing fine? They have just as much problems as we do, they just have a larger player base built over 10 years that won’t give up on their characters easily. Wow’s pvp is absolute no example to gw2. Tiered gear would be the last straw in gw2 attempt at an healthy pvp. Most people came to play gw2 just because of no tiered gear. You think wow’s best pvp players like tiered gear? Reckful has said that if he was in charge, everyone would have the same stats in pvp.

Take that conversation elsewhere, wvw, pve, whatever. Tiered gear is awful.

PvP players = Second-class citizens.

Hey, at least now we know that being a general kitten, whining, spamming twitch streams, behaving like a spoiled kid, insulting devs and coming up with conspiracy theories about how devs want to destroy a game mode that isn’t even a game mode is the fastest way to get the stuff we want in game! Just look at the new toy of the GvG crowd and their past behavior and tinfoil hat arguments and videos.
