Bashing elite specs has been the hip thing to do since HoT, so I figure it’d be a nice change of pace to talk about the good things elite specs did for the game.
Warrior
-HoT allowed warriors to run something other than greatsword. Condi warrior is actually a thing now, rather than the pre-hot days of power-or-bust
-Berserk mode added fluidity to the class. Core warrior felt extremely clunky to use and was rotationally simplistic. Berserk mode made it a bit more interesting to play.Guardian
-Virtues are used actively now. Core virtues where so weak that player typically camped the passive rather than active use. Virtues only saw active use if the guardian had no other options, and even then only if the virtues where traited.Rangers
-Rangers are actually useful now. Pre-Hot rangers where extremely meh.Thief
-Daredevil gives thieves defensive options other than stealth.
-Staff offers a viable alternative to dagger/xNecromancer
-Reapers shroud internally synergizes with itself. Compare this to core shroud where the skills often worked against each other. Core shroud skills 1,4, and 5 are ranged, yet shroud 2 is a gap closer. Still have no idea what the devs where trying to accomplish with core shroud #5.
-Shout elite. Necromancers finally get a low CD elite, and it’s not a transform! CttB offers a elite that is good for both power and condi builds, and can be used to set up plays.Engineer
-Scrapper offers a nice break from kits for those of us who don’t like frantic button mashing.I’m leaving out Mesmer and Ele because I don’t play those.
interesting i would like to point out that warrior pre-hot use to play alot of sword shield or sword war horn with long bow. With mace shield or hammer with Great sword.
Im really not sure how you can say warrior can use other weapons other then Great sword when most people pre hot were using other weapons then great sword.
Also i would like to point out the other things you are mentioning are quality of life upgrades. If every class spec is better then core specs then obviously DH F1-F3 skills will be more useful as well as necros shroud skills.
Lastly, your comment on rangers says alot. Rangers were useful pre hot. Ranger and necro simply required more skill and had just as high as a upside as other classes. This comment alone brings the question of what is the point of this post?
Are not enough teams signing up?
I remember for TOL 2 they had to make it for 128 teams.
My guild team couldnt make it because we are old men and we now have missed the past 2. Sad days
devs on marked accounts in any game are always bad, because marked accounts are PR accounts.
The actual devs have personal unmarked accounts that they presumably play serious on.
Thats fine but it just doesnt show well when the marked accounts get on and play. And you win a 1 vs 1 holding the staff 1 button on ranger …………………………..
Or when helseth says we are gonna get thief nerfed against 2-3 Anet devs and then they nerf thief.
Just alot of this, alot of it.
You should try playing against the actual PvP players in the Anet dev team. Those guys are nothing to scuff at.
I didnt say all of them, i can only talk about the ones ive seen in PvP and the people who i didnt see play with ranking by there head.
I can not speak for the serious players, though i am generalizing them as a whole for argumentative purposes.
Have you seen the Anet group PvP?
I saw about 2-3 of them sitting in the PvP lounge, and none of them were in ruby ranking.
Not even Anet cares for ranked game play and if you spot people streaming seeing Devs in there match, ohhh man the farming that happens. OHHHHH so much farming
I was playing vanilla warrior and i had downed some people in rampage form. yet when i went to greatsword 2 on the down person the isnta rez still happens.
So i have to say this change doesnt really do anything, i had to switch back to beserker form. I still noticed it but i was able to stop non druid/engy classes from insta rezzing. Though many 2 man rez still got people up really fast. I dont know maybe im wrong but i dont know how you balance this with all the AOE damage just flying around.

You could literally hot join 100 matches and get your glorious armor skin.
Glorious hero armor, not that crap you get for the tracks. You know, the good armor you get for winning actual tournaments. Little how people know about the actual Legendary skin already in the game.
Its your post that actually made me see i was incorrect for this is unique armor you can only get threw PvP.
To the other person post, 2k gems converted to gold is easily a precursor and winning 1-3 tournaments held by AG or the community easily results in a Legendary weapon so i dont know how you can complain.
Yet here i stand looking at Glorious Armor you can only get threw the TOL and im pretty sure we all know who the top 4 teams will be.

Im glad you said that because the Never Lucky 2 vs 2 tournament is from Anet.
If you go to the PvP forum and look at the top, you can click the title that says 5 vs 5 and 2 vs 2 tournaments. At the bottom of that page it says Anet hands out rewards.
So once again great job of not knowing what your talking about. Can you say i want it and only I should have it? #AnetRaidBabies
Also glorious armor? The thing from the reward track which was really easy to get? You do realize that some ESL players have over 20,000 games played. I have almost 9k and i finished that off months ago but way to name something that is more about consistency that actually doing anything.

Tournament prizing can take up to two weeks to distribute once the information has been provided to ArenaNet. For example, if an organizer takes two weeks to provide the winner’s information to ArenaNet, it can take a month to receive prizes.
Gem codes and llamas will be deposited directly to your account.
Do not contact ArenaNet staff members in-game regarding prize distribution. If you have a question or concern, please contact us at pvpcommunity@arena.net.Remind me where it says Anet is giving you a legendary again ?
Right, it doesn’t. It doesn’t even go as far as to say a Precursor.
Let me remind you what TOL says per the link https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-tournament-of-legends-returns-this-november/
1st Place: Choice of legendary weapon (excluding Eternity and legendary weapons introduced in or after the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™), 4000 gems, 2 Black Lion Claim Tickets, choice of permanent finisher, 1 Mini Llama
2nd Place: Choice of precursor weapon, choice of Gift of Mastery or Gift of Fortune, 2000 gems, 2 Black Lion Claim Tickets, choice of permanent finisher, 1 Mini LlamaNotice the big differences here ?
And you were saying something about me needing a picture created with crayons huh….
LOL nope i stand corrected and i will try to take my foot out of my mouth.
I still believe the raid legendary armor is still not a good way to go but i must step away when ive been proven wrong on my info. Good one I admit defeat

Because all the modes have exclusive ways of obtaining legendaries ?
Weapons – PvE/WvW with the exception being TOL
Backpacks – Fractals/PvP
Armor – RaidsEach mode showcases a specific amount of dedication to that mode and is the endgame reward for it.
So, get out there and raid.
Actually the weapons exception of TOL is incorrect.
Many people have ran tournament with the prize being a legendary weapon. 3 vs 3 and 2 vs 2 tournaments as well. Heck the last 1 vs 1 tournament gave away a precursor and 800 gems.
Also saying fractals is basically saying PvE, lets not pretend that you never have to leave LA to do it and simply put. You can get from 1-100 in a couple days. Then the PvP back pack was given to anyone who simply PvP. You didnt have to make legendary, you only had to make ruby 4 seasons or in my case Legendary 2 season 1 and Legendary S2 and before the season 2 was over i had a back pc. The most average of players could get the PvP back pc.
The raid armor is simply Anet locking something behind something else so the content they put out makes it so people have to get involved with part of the game they are working on.
If people are not raiding because they cant find there static groups then why would they put themselves threw hours of pugging? Oh wait lets hide Legendary armor behind it.
Show me an officially sponsored tournament other than ToL to directly give away legendary weapons as a prize and i’ll edit my statement until then…..It’s the only exception.
Oh and as for the rest of your rant….
You really want to split hairs ? Legendary armor also requires PvE. The same semantic argument you used against the Legendary Back-piece being exclusive to Fractals just caused your own position to backfire. Congrats!
Actually your comment makes no sense, i have friends who made the legendary Back pc who only PvP.
They did not get the PvE/ fractal back pc because they dont PvE and obviously legendary armor requires PvE since raids is PvE but please let me draw that in crayon for you.
Some threads for you- wont actually bring them in since that takes more work.

But these probably are not official to you since there isnt some big post from Anet. Also these are all with in the last 2-3 weeks.
Of course this isnt legit for you, who wants to be able to enter in 4-5 PvP tournaments a week and earn up to 10k gems. In 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3, and 5 vs 5 tournaments.
No what you prefer is grabbing your 9 other static raid group friends and doing raids to get legendary and say this is the only way you should be able to get them.
Irony, PvP made titles easier for casual PvE players. Yet casual PvE raid groups dont want to give anything up.
Anyone else seeing a trend?
Those Tournaments are not official Tournaments they are player driven and funded, which is good on them they are providing a venue that players have wanted but Anet has refused to cater to. Official tournaments are made and sanctioned and rewards provided by Anet, do those tournaments fall under that? No they don’t.

Raids are the most challenging content in this game, PvE-wise. They need a unique reward that is worth that effort.
Not all players will be able to get these items, but is that a bad thing? It’s legendary armor, it needs to be special. If you make it easy to get, everyone runs around with it and it doesn’t have any value.
I don’t WvW at all. If Anet launches a new Legendary backpack that i think looks awesome but it requires rank 2000 in WvW. I’ll either not get it or work my kitten off getting it. Not everything needs to be available to everyone. I’ve waited soooo long for some content that actually has prestige.
I want the same feeling as when I made my first legendary, back when it was still a big deal. Now everyone has 2-3 of em and I hate that. Legendary gear needs to mean something.
LOL you do realize what you said, just to cap it off “legendary gear needs to mean something.”
You do realize why the PvP community is mad right? That 1/2 the people who got to legendary were not legendary players. That any scrub who simply grinded games got the legendary back pc. Anet also took away Leader boards and made getting finishers easy for the casual PvE player.
The people who have WvW have really gotten nothing so the fact that you say ohhh if they did a WvW thing i wouldnt get it or i try really hard. Well guess what the people who WvW have gotten 0 from Anet, so we can squash that right now.
Im sorry, im taking this from the perspective of myself who has almost 9k matches played in PvP and was in the old Solo Que leader Board and Team Que leader board. Ive seen some of the people with legendary back packs and the idea that they got it threw PvP hurts my head because they might as well handed to everyone.
Then you and others who raid alot say We should have this, this should be ours. When a majority of people have looked at Anet funny eyed for making the game easier for casual PvE players in WvW and PvP.
My question really is why now? ( I assume its for money, they made a expansion based around raids and this is 1 way of forcing people to play it)
Raids already gives out great loot, trophy/decorations for the guild halls, AP, and high end quality team content. I can tell you right now, WvW and PvP didnt get either of these and you want to compare getting 2k levels in WvW to raiding.
Yes but they run necro only for boon corrupt other than that i think its almost useless or well necro need a very coordinated support team to be able to do something useful. But we are not playing in top teams. right?
Im talking about uncoordinated pug gaming + facing class stacking. so whats with us solo players? Because its another story. Uncoordinated randoms running around, doing a lot of mistakes, dont care about you, let you die, let you get ganked a lot of pugs can’t play in team with necro and then necro suffer + also have to read sometimes some noname on chat blame you that you can’t survive ganker groups on your own.
Some matches enemy hard focusing you so you don’t survive for long got 800k-1m inc damage at the end of match.
So i only was able to feed enemy melee classes.
My team didn’t have pressure and enemy team had full pressure on me so i just drop like a pve mob for 10mins.
I can agree wit this but many classes have the same problem, i was playing ele and if i didnt have support at mid i would very quickly die as well.
Im pretty sure this is the case for every class except warrior. Simply put necro is targeted first at mid fights, if not the necro its another class and without the support people will be dying fast.
And again people complains exclusively about PVP balance… Starting to see why Anet guts classes on PVE with only PVP concerns in mind.
Care to share which ones?
They nerfed ele healing because of raids, they nerfed ele conjure weapons because of world bosses and dungeons. The nerfed rifle warrior because of WvW and etc etc etc.
This last patch they basically nerfed everything due to raids and partly WvW. So how did PvP effect these changes?

I tried PvPing to do get the legendary back piece. I don’t enjoy PvPing and that almost ruined the game for me, until I decided to stop.
Sure I could raid, but it would destroy the game for me. Completely and utterly destroy it. Therefore I won’t have legendary armor.
Since I want legendary armor, my choice is to destroy the game for myself, or to not get it.
Since I’m not sure either choice is exceptable to me, and I see more and more rewards I have to not enjoy the game to get, I start wondering if the future of this game is for me.
I won’t make a big deal if and when I leave this game, I’m just going to leave.
Legendary armor locked behind content I never have intention to do doesn’t encourage me to keep playing.
i dont understand this mindset. No one has to have all in game. if you trully are ready to quit because you want legendary armor but don’t want to raid, maybe indeed this game is not for you anymore. Or you should join a training guild and kill one or 2 boss a week… or maybe just buy boss kill.
Legendary armor is both a reward for mastering challenging content and a carrot to bring people into raid (even if i know a lot of people who would still raid without legendary armor). The solution is probably to wait until another set of legendary armor is released for open world pve-ers.
See i have a problem with your mind set.
In PvP we had levels that required 100,000 of exp points which was called something else back then but wont get into it now. But that was in the 50’s and in the 60’s it required even more.
Anet nerfed it for the casual player who would never get to level 60-70-80. Yet many of us were at 50+, 60+ 70+ and some were almost level 80. Yet Anet made it easier for casual players.
Here you have a player who doesnt want to raid, he didnt want to PvP. Ok fine he/she can still get the fractal legendary back pc. Anet accommodated the non- PvP player.
Right now raids is the expected way to get legendary armor. This is a huge part of the game, getting gear you can change the stats on with legendary weapons you can change your stats on. This is the dream of playing anything you want when you want.
Yet you will hide it from many players who dont want to find 10 man raid teams?
I got to legendary PvP back pc by myself. No team needed, I got my legendary weapons by myself no team needed but armor is hid behind raids and you dont understand the mind set?
Anet has made this game more and more for the casuals which is why the changes to PvP and WvW have been made. They are less enjoyable for those groups of people as well.
Yet of course PvE players say we need to keep it to raids when WvW players are still wondering when they get any type of reward.
Necro got killed in 2-3sec in 1v1 league but people on this forum say random stuff how can a focused necro die in 2-3sec on conquest? Because its die even in 1v1 in 2-3 sec lol. So i dont know what kind of game those guys play.
Guardian and Warrior faceroll this game hard. I know game not balanced for 1v1’s but come on my favourite class dying to anyone half decent in 2-3sec because the burst damage rotation is impossible to survive? And also if a class bad in 1v1 its bad for 5v5 too because if its bad in 1v1 it means its the worst to survive 5v5. Dead dps = doing 0 dps = bad dps. People on tourney’s only take it for boon corrupt bot other than that its a useless class. Its a joke and really need to look at. This game will become my second game and i will keep eye on classes and when i feel its more balanced i will spend more time on it again. The game has potential but i think the balance atm is one of the worse ive ever played. Some peoples and also sometimes me don’t even have chance to fight back the burst rotation of some classes is that bad. It’s either people eat you alive in 3sec or avoid all your damage and kill you that way.
Omg they brought this thread back and your complaining about its roll in 5 vs 5.
Guess what every successful team in the ESL is running necro, how can it be bad in 5 vs 5?
The other guy is simply crying because he wants to use other builds and maybe not want to use staff. Well crap i play ele and warrior alot and i would like to not use stances and shouts……. oh wait i have to to play competitively.
Im all for people asking for better build diversity, maybe a necro build thats better for 1 vs 1 which would have selfish attacks. Then a team fighting DPS glass build like in the ESL league.
Yeah sure thats fine but you wrote that necro sucks in 1 vs 1 so its broken, other person is writing random stuff about marks and skills.
Yet the fact still remains that necro is one of the top 5 classes in the game and used by the top 4 teams in the game. AA, TCG,55, Verm
Guess what every class is having issues right now, asking for life force doesnt fix anything.
Just because dungeons were hard when they first came out doesnt mean people didnt figure it out and do speed runs. Your acting like there wasnt certain builds that were played for dungeons. There was but with 5 people its easier do find groups and also to find people willing to work with you.
Also i have pugged all my kills, just because i named a group that had good players doesnt make it diverse build comps.
I have had to spend hours with “EXPERIENCED” kill groups because something wasnt right and rotations were missed.
Take a guess to the people in these runs? Its always a party of 3-4 people who run these small pug groups and they start kicking people who cant run meta builds because the team is failing.
How is its the community’s fault this happens? Im talking pre-patch ive had to collect pumpkins for the guild hall so havent raided yet but im sorry this goes again into everything i said.
You cant blame people for wanting to get something done in a reasonable amount of time with content they have done every week for months. If by kicking the 2nd necro, the condi druid, the zerk dd and Dh for more tempest and healing druids and the fight is then won easier and faster Are you gonna sit there and really say its the community’s fault?
Im sorry but your argument has no real point, you are arguing from the perspective of someone who gets all there boss kills on the reset sunday night.
Seriously you are literally saying im rich and its easy being rich why dont you do this this and this with your rich friends and you can have money too.
I have a friend who is in a guild who sells raids and they were doing runs with 7 people. They on youtube 5 man groups and i still run into “EXPERIENCED” wing clear groups who struggle 3-4 fights before we get the kill on a boss.
You are righting “where is your math”, “they can get better” and its the community’s fault?
ill say it again, the way your speaking on the subject is like me saying to you if vanilla is so viable you play a vanilla class and ill play the meta HOT class and we will 1 vs 1 and if you cant win L2P.

Wanna raid in WoW? As long as you’re playing anything but Frost DK or Ele Shaman, you’re good to go (although Brewmaster Monk may also be on that list). However, there is at least one very strong spec on every single class and it’s usually more like 2-3.
Wanna raid in GW2? There’s a short list of builds desired for raids that doesn’t include 2 classes. Oh, and you’ll probably need to have an alt or two because of how much some fights favor one profession that’s dead weight on another fight.
This i agree with alot,
Ive had guild mates leave for other games because the class/character they play can be useful.
Here in GW2 there are clear Apex classes for things. Right now we have people knit picking what you can and cant use. Another person argued that the community doesnt know how to play non meta raids etc etc etc.
The simple fact is build diversity is very low in this game since HOT came out. There are very specific roles that need to be filled and only 1-2 classes capable of doing it. Obviously certain groups can play what ever they want and get away with it.
As someone who pugs alot, ive had groups who kicked people who didnt have enough AP, a necro who was using greatsword on his DPS necro when the commander posted looking for DPS, and a million other things which got people kicked.
Why is it a bad thing to say raid diversity is dead? I see people arguing about it but its like every aspect of the game right now. You have 1 maybe 2 build options to play, if the group has it you need to switch to the next build. Which in many pug groups, they are not looking for a thief, DH or engy when trying to get the best team comp. As well as only needing 1 rev, 1 mesmer and 1 warrior. These 3 classes must play a certain build and if seen not playing it, they will get kicked.
Lets be 100% honest, raids diversity like most of the game has little to none build diversity. All the bosses lean toward more DPS and team mechanics. Getting to greens, going to the right fountain, not crossing the streams, etc etc. Which they have been fun but its not like Anet created bosses that took 2-3 bunkers 2-3 support and 2 characters timing burst skills at the right moment.
No simply put raids are about going to the right spots and the right time with the right classes/ builds. Ive played a few other MMOs and though many are similar GW2 doesnt have the best dungeons/raids. They dont have the best build diversity as well. GW2 just has the best game play mechanics.
Open world and dungeons have a ton of build diversity. You can do map completion and beat the personal story in any build. You can also do it without a build (traits) and in greens. So unless you’re referring to another game then you’re wrong.
As fair as lack of diversity in raids, you can blame that on the players who insist that the meta builds are the only builds capable of beating raids. It’s a player issue and not an Anet issue. If Anet were to change things, there would be a new meta and we’d be right back to where we are again.
LOL of course dungeons have great build diversity, with the 30-30-30 power creep, ascended gear, Increased everything from HOT spec lines. Dungeons are a cake walk especially since they havent been updated for about 4 years.
When GW2 first came out dungeons were hard because people were doing them at 35 because it said recommended, even though it would be hard even at 80 with exotic gear. Build diversity was very open because it wasnt meant for level 80 player fully geared. Comparing dungeons which had serious glitches to raids is like comparing NBA basketball to rugby and saying look at the different play styles.
Also why is it the community’s fault? Raids are difficult and running the meta spec is simply far better then running a random team comp. I posted a screen print in the warrior forum of a random pug group where we had 2 thieves on VG who then switched to power engy on gors. This was the first time ive had a group stray so far from conventional and actually succeed.
Anet made this 10 man groups not the community. Anet made the HOT specs that broke the other elements of the game such as PvE, WvW, PvP and fractals. Anet just nerfed classes to simply change the meta like they do in PvP.
You can not blame people for wanted to succeed in getting rewards, Achievement points, titles, and progress on legendary gear coming up.
When you can have 10 people run something that is proven to work better then anything else and not only is it better but it is literally 5X and 10X better. How can you blame the community?
Please come face me in PvP and play a vanilla build while ill use the HOT meta because that is simply what your saying.
No, take thief for example. 5 spam dodge 5 dodge and do 8-12k damage. There is no set up simply press 5 and dodge. Then there is condi which is 3 and then dodge. Tell me which one takes more skill?
Warrior, is go into beserk mode and smash the F1 button, condi tend to take cleansing ire while power usually takes ire or the last stand trait. There is no set up, you smash F1 on both for the heal proc on defensive trait line.
We can go down the list but guess what they are the exact same now. Rev better power, necro better condi but thats because Anet gave them no other option. People arguing for one or the other are lost.
The reason DH is a problem is because its easy and when a new player picks up a DH and another new player picks up a thief, a ele, mesmer and they walk onto a point and die. It should be looked at.
I agree with some things you said, and agree with kratos a bit too. But this quote seems to prove that if you struggle against DH, don’t blame the class.
Worst case: DH will have 5 traps down, and all 5 off CD and ready to drop again.

Overall my point is trap guard are super easy to counter, put some thought into it and don’t sit on top of traps and you will be fine.
See heres the problem with your post and people straight saying get gud, its really not that simple.
Of course when you play a bad DH you can simply dodge into a trap and out but a good DH doesnt place his traps right on the point when you see him.
In the ESL league toker was on thief on the temple of the silent storm and the traps were placed on the stair way where he was downed and someone came to kill him since no one was there.
Honestly if i played DH seriously i would know when to drop traps against high level players. Right now i dont even play DH other then dailys and i run 4 traps and i tend to steam roll newer players or people trying new stuff.
The video posted is of a DH spamming traps ONE OVER THE OTHER AT THE SAME TIME.
Everyone coming in here talking ohhh i beat DH people all the time, guess what there are a few elite ESL players who played DH and im 99% sure you guys cant beat them in 1 vs 1 when they play DH.
PvP isnt about stuffin the numbers and throwing out things that potentially work. Its about the skill level of the player and the skill ability of the class. Simply put this video is of a average player playing against a average DH who played his traps all wrong. Do not use bad game play to use as a example for ESL level players or the majority of the community.
You might be seeing alot of rifle warrior simply because there is alot of different ways to play it.
Like you can go arms and play signets, go a little more traditional and go discipline. Or you can be a mad man and go no defense and go for a straight glass power build, which can be fun.
Otherwise warrior is very dependent on stances. Warrior is stuck in this place where it can be good in 1 vs 1 but isnt very good in 2 vs 2. Its also in this place where it can absorb damage and tank for a little bit. Yet when the 10 sec of stance durations go away, your kind of a sitting duck in team fights.
I dont know how you would classify warrior but i would simply put it as the jack of all trades. It isnt the best at anything and it isnt the worst at anything. Yet warrior has the option to play melee, range and condi though each of these builds is played with stances and defense/beserker trait line.
Just shows how much you actually know about raid diversity lol. Rly chrono dead? We ran double chrono tonight and DPS is near exactly the same as 4/4/2. Try getting that without quickness lol. Similarly DH is great in this meta, even better than it was in the last one since more alacrity from double chrono.
It does completely push out rev, daredevil and reaper tho. The rest is absolutely fine.
LOL, first you write that this person has no clue about raids.
Then you end it with “It does completely push out rev, daredevil and reaper tho” when the title of the thread is “raid diversity is now dead”.
I mean thats only 3 out 9 classes but oh well
I know it’s not great, and apparently I stand corrected on the rev if Nike’s math is true. But it’s hardly as bad as the OP tries to make it sound. I mean the idea chrono wouldn’t be in a raid squad anymore… pls. And his ideas about “guard never seeing the light of day” while it had 0 nerfs and guilds were heavily using it pre-patch. Come on…
Ohhh no i know, raids are tough and can frustrate people alot. I personally have had to pug all of my kills so i see the build of it.
I mean some groups running the meta comp for each boss to the tee and then right before the patch we had 2 power engys on gors, go figure.
I just find it funny how you argue it isnt as bad as the OP says yet you say yourself 1/3 of the classes are not useful.
Honestly i have found raids to be fun at first figuring out the mechanics and then completely frustrating since its something you have to run again and again to get the guild decorations.
I also dont like the 10 man thing but im rambling and just say its funny when we have to talk about build diversity in this game because its every where.
Literally go into the JP and get 5 bags
Back in 2012, the clock tower gave like 8x the rewards. A random 10-20 from the chest, another 15 from the chests up the path every other run, and you could run it back to back without having to wait. In 2013, it was heavily nerfed because candy corn was too common and probably because of botters teleporting to the end. Unfortunately, those nerfs made it not worth doing, as zerging the lab gave more rewards in a single AoE.
The Lich doesn’t summon many adds (if any?) and doesn’t give them boons. Used to apply regeneration, protection and retaliation on all the adds.
The adds are summoned on every player that doesn’t evade when the ground goes black. The boons are applied a second or two after they spawn, but if you have heavy AoE, you can kill them prior to that. Personally, the lich feels the same, just with much less health. Although people feared it in the past, it was really never a problem. It was just that the casual zergs would get wrecked when they spawned 20+ skeletons with retaliation all over the place, whereas stacked groups would AoE them down without an issue. There are solo videos from years past if someone wants to really compare them.
I can kill both of them on my necro.
If you wanted a challenge, you probably shouldn’t be playing a necro. All the bosses have always been soloable though and the dungeon is essentially a solo instance, since like all festival dungeons, it’s balanced for casual low levels.
I guess i need to step back and say ok i guess other people are having fun with is so i should just sit down and im willing to accept that.
Also i just solo the skeletal chainsaw guy and the one coming from the door on my rev and warrior too. Same time, i couldnt do it with my glass thief or chrono mesmer but im 100% sure i could kill multiple bosses on probably 6 out of the 9 classes i got.
Im not asking it to be challenging like a raid, heck im not even asking for it to be t4 fractal hard. Im simply asking for some resistance, i you can bench press 135 lb 28 times and do 6 sets. Would it be ok to add a tiny bit of weight to it so maybe you are only doing 20 reps? Nothing crazy, i shouldnt be able to solo bosses smashing the 1 button and simply move around. Dodging not necessary.
I can accept that Halloween is no longer for me but it kind of sucks since i used to enjoy this event.
Well , I am glad to see solo/duo q ….. what I still wait to see is GVG ranked fights ! WvW is long dead and pvp is focusing in the majority of solo/duo pvpers ! ! ! Many people need a Guild ladder / a GVG system !!!! Please take it in consideration !
Im at a loss here as well.
Ok sure it MIGHT be good that we get solo/duo ques in ranked but does it fix Match Making?
Will it be a 50/50 ratio?
How about a leader board? New rewards for Guild Halls or just useful rewards in general?
Seriously what if S5 rolls around and its a different system but no real reason to play/grind away games?
This one is on us, we said hey go ahead and take away competitive team play without even knowing if they would add in anything else. Honestly a majority of the premade complaint posts come with questions. For instance the thief who ran P/P complaining about a premade or the signet warrior.
Oh well another patch goes by and 1/2 of the community says its a good thing witht he other 1/2 saying its not. Knowing that this doesnt fix any of the issues.
This and facebook is great, its like the episode of south park when they force stan to vote for a kitten sandwich or barf burrito and in the end his vote doesnt even count. I got Gw2 patching and the presidential debate. Life at its finest.

It is a terrible change, it makes rezzing even harder in this aoe spam madness.
Not to mention the thief elite skill which skips your downstate and some other skills are even more OP now.It was the best fix since it stopped the silly insta rezzes from Druids and Engies, when you down someone and they are up before the invuln state is even finished was what was really ridiculous. And the Thief elite take timing and skill to instantly finish someone.
So instead of dealing with the spam DPS and OP skills they simply made it easier to kill people?
This isnt a fix, people will still get insta rezzed from engy and druids. Anet is now just making the downstate a useless area of the game.
Before warrior banner was important, heck even necro and ele revive allies utility skill could be used in regular ranked play.
This doesnt do anything but create more problem since people are now killed faster. Imagine the next season ranked play, that 1-2 people on your team who keeps running into a point with 3 people and no one else is there.
Like i said, instead of fixing the HOT specs and putting them in line with old specs, we now have OP dps in the game, Op healing, OP sustain, OP downstate damage and OP rezzing.
Season 1 was all about bunking and healing, S5 will be about DPS and cleaving.
Last year, very few people had elite specs and lots of folks were power-leveling revenants in the lab. This year, veterans have perfected their farming builds and are better organized, so of course the zerg steamrolls everything so quickly that DR kicks in.
I can’t promise that ANet didn’t nerf mobs/bosses or increase the reset time on ‘doors’ or change DR. However, given that everyone acknowledges that ANet didn’t spend much time on the event, isn’t it more plausible to believe that we’re simply more experienced and efficient now?
I guess you could say that but that still doesnt help game play.
I mean when the hardest part of the dungeon is jumping from the rocks to down below, isnt something wrong?
Saying we got better is dependent on who is playing. We have had 30-30-30 bump in specs/ boons and skill upgrades for raids/ and HOT specs that deliver way more healing /sustain/dps then core GW2.
Im simply wondering where the balance is. I want everyone to enjoy the content because this was a really fun event. Yet when people are saying soloing the dungeon is really easy because its level 2.
I mean who is this game even for anymore? Level 2 F2P players?
(edited by kdaddy.5431)
It’s not just you. It feels like they nerfed all the fun out of it.
It really makes me sad to see this years Halloween Event. I was looking forward to it, even if I didn’t expect much change to the year before… but this is just awefull.
There is nothing new at all, even less then the years before. I hoped to find at least some rewards, that would be worth playing for, but looking at them, just demotivated me totally. The crow mini looks cool, but the price, that’s just ridiculous.I love guild wars 2 and Halloween was probably my favourite festival in the game. But over the years, they managed to suck all the fun out of it and replaced it with boring grind and item sinks
Do you feel a trend with all the HOT content?
Like AB-TD-DS are all about completing the same meta event over and over again. Ember bay is about redoing the same hearts over and over again for rewards.
I cant zerg anymore in the Lab and its been 2 days. I mean ever since the scarlett Marionette lane fight Anet has been putting out the same events over and over again.
Like the Gauntlet was awesome, Dry Top and Silver wastes were great maps. Then they turned Silver wastes into the Vinewrath lane event and followed it up with HOT.
I know the Christmas event is coming around the corner and i didnt finish the stuff from last year so im excited for it.
Yet this Halloween event was my favorite event. I mean that first Halloween when the Mad King popped out the lion statue and he could actually kill us in the dungeon. Like wow that was awesome.
Its odd when you get ready to gear up and play something and then 1 hour passes and you really dont want to play it anymore.
Back at launch they weren’t coming out with a new map every single update. Now they’re trying to. I’d rather have that more often than a new halloween thing that I get to play for 3 weeks out of the year.
I understand what you’re saying and applaud Anet’s attempt to bring out new maps. I am skeptical that it will last. Anet has a history of trying a thing, then scrapping it and trying another thing. It’s why a lot of areas of the game feel half-done. Anet has so much potential and a lot of it is fulfilled, but everything just needs polished to make it a really great game. Festivals are part of the polish. For many people, they will see festival content and maps much more often than Bloodstone Fen or Ember Bay over the life of the game.
I agree with your 1st comment and this one.
People are still crying about the Zhaitan fight.
For me personally it sucks when the content that everyone can enjoy falls flat on its face. Raids have been the focus and they are good but alot of people dont get to enjoy them because it takes 10-coordinated people with decent mechanics/gear to get wings done.
Here we have a event everyone use to enjoy and event though its became less and less over the years it still had something fun. The Mad King the first year then the Blood Prince.
Currently Anet has said oh well dont care, go farm and i myself feel done after 2 days.
I cant speak for everyone else but i find the content to be horrible to play.
I use to look forward to this because the JP is great, the LAB was fun (when the monsters could actually kill you) and there was just a bunch of fun side things to do.
I mean the doors use to pop up in random areas of the world of Tyria and its kind of a naw ill do something else.
I have a small guild and around 5-10 play solid and 5-6 rep the guild (the build has been getting smaller) but we are trying to farm the event simply for pumpkin decorations. 3 of us have all ready kind of tired out of playing this halloween event for 1 hour.
Literally go into the JP and get 5 bags, naw this is no could cant farm it. Go into the LAB with a zerg or heck in i can solo all the bosses now and even if 2 of them pop up next to each other. I can kill both of them on my necro. Then the dungeon, this is just sad to me.
The dungeon the Mad King dies without even a fight. We literally spent more time listening to him talk then actually fighting him.
I can speak for myself and 2 other guild mates. We are not having fun with the Halloween content simply because of how boring its gotten since we all have ascended gear, better traits, and now 30-30-30 buffs and everything is so easy to kill.
1 other member is farming like crazy and doesnt mind it and i assume there are many like that but my goodness this was just sad to me.
Lets be honest Anet is dropping bombs and we are the toilet.
Nominating this for quote of the year.
+1
@ Obindo.6802
You wrote “Also; rev does not counter dragon hunter.”
You were talking roles and i simply said that rev can take any role. With that being said i said that you could simply rotate a rev to a DH.
How is that a bad mentality when the so called best DH in NA is not winning 1 vs 1 vs the top tier revs. Not even the best revs but simply ESL level revs, he will lose too.
Im not arguing for EGO or what ever your trying to assume, im pointing out facts in the game at the top level of play. We have had 16 teams- 8 from NA and 8 from EU and only 2 players are playing DH. They struggled all 4 seasons to find there place since necro’s did more damage in team fights, revs-druids- some mesmers and warriors are better in the 1 vs 1.
You specially said that revs do not counter DH …………. and now you write “I’m sorry but I do not care if some NA rev beat some NA DH.”
Im not using some rev or some DH im using the BEST PLAYERS in the game as my examples.
I honestly believe Anet is trying to force each class into a role. When you have a class that can do multiple things, they need people for each class looking at ways to balance and even things out with in each class. Rev needed serious help outside of glint/shiro and instead they made it the only option. Now we look at every class in the game, pick the meta build and apply to every area of the game.
Lets be honest Anet is dropping bombs and we are the toilet.
This thread will keep going because people will argue they like it and therefore try to create a reason to use it.
That’s true, because people liking a weapon, regardless of the motivation, is a valid reason to use it. As far as this thread is concerned, people have reasons to use the sword, even if it’s not a top performance weapon.
OKay fair point. But then the argument changes as to whether or not that is okay for us as a community to condone such game elements.
If it is okay to have primary weapons traited and stat’d for the sake of likability rather than usefulness.
If it is okay for 1 class to be less or more effective than another because it is more likeable than the other. The argument just continues to expand outward from there….sad stuff in this forum and this thread
Been playing since beta, i always play warrior.
If you think sword sucks compared to enemy cheese builds, its a no.
So what do you use OH sword for? And what Build you use for it?
I mean if you pick and choose you can make every thread obsolete.
off hand sword i use, axe sword with shield mastery (very good for targeted duels like versus gunflame/killshot warrior)
sword 4 does good dmg when landed
Can you post the build? sounds too interesting for anyone else to think up.
I dont think there is a reason to argue/debate fun.
If people want to use sword go for it, im just saying that if you brought a sword warrior in ranked with people playing seriously. He is gonna get flak for it, imagine playing DPS ele, centaur rev, or bunker theif. It doesnt matter if you were even on the level, people will blame you for the loss regardless for using something everyone knows is less effective.
I run axe/axe in PvE with greatsword for fun and when im feeling crazy, ill do it in WvW. Though im only hurting myself in situations so it is for fun. Which is ultimately what the game is for.
When it comes down to usefulness i just want everyone to be honest. The title is “sword seems pretty dumb nowadays” and the OP was right, doesnt mean we cant use it or ask anet to upgrade its traits in the future.
If you go back and watch the ESL, tarcis lost a 1 vs 1 to phanta on druid. A good rev can take on any 1 vs 1 and stalemate for a long time. Rev has been the hard counter to DH in 1 vs 1 and warriors as well. Rev is the jack of all trades class right now capable of anything so saying its role isnt 1 vs 1 is a bit off.
Any team would use more than 1 rev given no class stacking. A rev doing 1v1’s is a waste of your rev, hence not it’s role.
Also; rev does not counter dragon hunter.
You better go watch S2 or 3 of the Pro Leagues when Zero counter play was trying to get into the League, kitten was winning his 1 vs 1 vs the necro. heurix made the comment that the necro should of been winning that 1 vs 1.
Want to know what they did rotation wise to fix it? They sent a rev to 1 vs 1 kitten the so called best DH in NA.
Also in your own comment, you said if there was no class stacking which means that it could be its role if the team wanted it that way.
We have alot of S1-S4 of rule changing because revs are clearly better then warriors, thieves, and DH. The ability to do everything better means it can take any role and do it better. Simply because a team decides not to run it out to the 1 vs 1 doesnt mean it cant counter it.
You’re gonna have to rephrase everything you said, none of it made any sense nor was relevant.
So there is a thread on top of PvP title like – Why Dh changes were bad- and simply put most people know that revs, engys, druids pretty much hard counter DH at high levels.
Also i was trying to point out players you can look up in the ESL leagues, who are considered the 2 best at the DH class. Tage who went with a sustain build and didnt engage in 1 vs 1 and a player whose name gets change to kitten when i type for NA.
Now the NA DH was the 1 vs 1 specialist in earlier seasons for his team, to make this short. The other team sent a rev to 1 vs 1 him to win that fight.
If my proven examples are not relevant for you then you simply are just arguing to argue.
It’s the only thing that could rescue this game. It is simply impossible to balance classes amongst 3 gamemodes, raids, 5v5 conquest (+stronghold should you take it serious), roaming and 70v70 zerg play without seperation.
Disagree,
They could easily balance the game around PvP. Making lets just say cantrips a 1 vs 1 ele build with shorter cool downs and shouts being the team fighting and conjure weapons being a all around build.
Then they simply change the DPS and health bars of bosses in PvE, Raids, Fractals to fit accordingly.
WvW is dead because they straight ignored it, they have a reward track that gives rare weapons. To make them exotics you need WvW tickets from the WvW tournaments. (stares at sun)
They are balancing around raids which is why mesmer does 20k damage from the sword 2 skill but not in PvP because they are kind of trying to separate it.
So my main reason for saying splitting the game mechanics is bad since i went off in a another direction is because they havent balanced anything since HOT release.
Raids right before the patch were getting down in 3 man, 5 man 7, man groups and they were ignoring mechanics. So they nerf/buff certain things so they can be viable in raids.
So eventually they will balance raids, that doesnt help PvP,WvW, PvE, Fractals who they said has no control over balancing. We have been in HOT for over a year now and none of the HOT metas have been decent compared to the meta right before the D/D meta.’
So you can literally say that this game hasnt cared about PvP balance for almost 3 years. Separating the different game modes doesnt change the fact they dont have actual teams looking to fix each one.
This thread will keep going because people will argue they like it and therefore try to create a reason to use it.
That’s true, because people liking a weapon, regardless of the motivation, is a valid reason to use it. As far as this thread is concerned, people have reasons to use the sword, even if it’s not a top performance weapon.
And im 100% ok with that. Any reason that goes with i like the weapon, i like the look of my character or the style of game play or trying to defy the meta. Go for it.
I just have a issue with people lying, like the dude who posted warriors using sword in PvP and calling it viable or saying because a few people are using it in there static raid groups that it makes it viable.
These threads are suppose to be about the community be honest with other players and letting creators/programmers of the game know our thoughts.
Seriously look at this last patch update and see the frustration on most of the forums. I mostly PvP and even before HOT came out build diversity was dying and the devs refused to fix things. HOT came out and PvP was horrible seasons 1 & 2. WvW has slowly been dying. And for me its the ability to run multiple viable builds in different areas of the game which has gone missing.
Im 100% ok with saying i use swords in on warrior in the game but saying that it works WELL strikes a cord on me. You can see the person responding to me is even using the longbow burn build and saying he has a sword on him so it makes it viable.
This thread has taken a life of its own and its no longer about sword but what sword can go with.
If you go back and watch the ESL, tarcis lost a 1 vs 1 to phanta on druid. A good rev can take on any 1 vs 1 and stalemate for a long time. I just wanted to share some screen shots of my raids today before the patch.
I couldnt get the sab kill but got the first 2 in 4 runs. So took about 40 min to get to Sab.
The other one is the Tier 4 -90- fractal.
I just want to point out that its simply easier/better for many of the areas of the game to not run warrior.
Looking at the VG screenshot, you being a rev with 15 might, running shiro not dwarf, having staff out while VG is above 66%, and only being ~80-85% with 7:20 left is enough for me to consider all of your argument completely invalid.
You can comment on my play style its fine.
Just facts though, we killed VG with about 1:30 left on the timer, bleeds are well above anything a condi warrior could bring. Just to add in the amount of torment, chill, poison, etc etc.
Our warrior was Greatsword power and he was that as well in gors.
Lastly commenting on me playing rev, go for it. I got my loot so am im not even bothered since i get W1 pugging every week, im still on point about the topic. Sword is still not useful in any area of the game. You can argue it but its the lesser of everything else.
This next one is because people are actually trying to defend sword. im all for you saying im having fun with it but do not say its legit.
I would like for you to take a look at this screen shot, this was during S4 and when i was making my usual complaint about MM.
Look at my boons- let me add that that there is 2 screen shots because i sustained a 1 vs 3 and when a thief came to help me we won a 2 vs 3.
Guess what anyone can post anything on youtube/twitch/ or use pictures like i am and say ohhhhh this works. But guess what, sword does not work on warrior.
You only need 1 in raids, you dont need them in fractals, if your in WvW you are playing shouts or power. NOT SWORD and sword has not been useful in PvP since the Major Tournament when ROM was playing a 1 vs 1 sword build with cele amulet. That was almost 3 YEARS AGO.
This thread will keep going because people will argue they like it and therefore try to create a reason to use it.

Wait you 2 both think that winning the match in the end means something?
You posted a video which is a horrible example for what are trying to say. The post is literally “People who complain about DH, Git Gud Breh” and the example you show is a 28 sec clip of a 2 vs 1 fight and losing by 300 points in unranked …………………………
I dont understand how you could even think this is even making a point.
Lastly everyone knows its about skill. You have ESL players coming out left and right saying the DH meta doesnt bother them at all. Its about the community, the level of play for the majority and how hard a certain class is to play. The Skill floor to the skill ceiling of a player and a class. Everyone knows this, people complain about druids healing, hammer engys bruiser style among other things. Yet something should be addressed when multiple play the DH class and get to a rank they dont belong and when Dh stacking becomes a thing because its simple to play and has huge upside.
Press F3 then rez- A team mate goes down teleport to the enemy trying to stomp and spam traps for dazes- enemy goes down and the enemy team goes in for a rez and you spam traps- its pretty simple.
Lastly there are a few top tier DH and im 100% sure you would not beat them in a 1 vs 1. I dont care who pick kitten or tage either one. Lets say you start seeing them all the time in unranked and you keep losing to them. So you avoid them and go to team fights where your team mates are losing because they are struggling against the 2-3-4 Dh comp. What do you do now?
The reason DH is a problem is because its easy and when a new player picks up a DH and another new player picks up a thief, a ele, mesmer and they walk onto a point and die. It should be looked at.
Posting that you won the match is cute because we all have comebacks, posting about skill/abilities because hes a decent player doesnt mean anything when the video you want to show is straight garbage.
If i brought you a dinner and said the chef is Bobby Flay but its microwaved macaroni. Should i really argue that you need to pay $30 for this food because thats what your doing.
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to show that I am good. I just think it funny how most DH players play the class. As you guys can see, I basically negate all of his traps without dropping any HP. The class is balance, people just need to use their Brains. If a DH is on point, 99% he already has a trap. So just play accordingly.
People can’t tell I’m trolling with all those twitch emotes and meme apparently.
Im sorry this just isnt a good showing for a whole bunch of reasons.
Most of all its a 2 vs 1. Another is he is sitting there in his traps and to put icing on the cake he spammed all his traps.
There is a reason people complain about traps and its because this dude is winning the match by 300 pts playing like that.
Your not the only person running some odd unranked build, the question is can you run it and still dominate your games?
I think you guys are misunderstanding him. I watched his stream and he is very decent at multiclassing. I think he is trying to say that the players who complained about DH being OP just need to learn to dodge. Just worded it in a weird way. I watched the full highlight of that match and he did carry with his rotations on mesmer. He is just messing around I think, if yall want an idication of real gameplay watch his rev highlights.
Your joking right?
Dude post a 28 sec video of him losing by 300 points and to kick the dog, he wins a 2 vs 1 vs a DH who is clearly spamming traps.
The DH literally doubled down on his traps just a few feet from one another when both players popped out.
Seriously this is why this forum cant have a serious debate about anything. Your sitting here trying to defend that. I should post a vid of me winning 1 vs 2 on full trap ranger, rifle warrior, or MM necro and then tell everyone to L2P.
Yet when i face kaypud when hes on necro ill lose, or when i face paul on my ranger ill ose or when i see tarcis on my warrior ill lose.
Ill say it again, hes telling people to L2P in a video where he is losing the match by 300 points and he won a 2 vs 1 in UNRANKED.
Do you guys even PvP bruh !!!!!!!!!!!!
NO PIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There already is a competitive format for organized teams that practice together. It is the ESL league. Forcing solo queue allows the matchmaker to make better decisions about people’s individual skill level. It is like a highshool/college team wanting to play as a team in a pickup/hat tournament.
The next step should be to publish people’s rank so people that want to create competitive guilds and teams can get people of their skill level.
When people are new to the game and they find guild mates/friends/ nice people to play with.
Thats when they start thinking about doing AG/ESL/Cup tournaments.
No one coming into the game says hey i want to join a team. Spend hours practicing 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2. That comes up later when you realize you like playing with certain people.
Anet has really struggled with updates since before HOT.
It is clear that raids are some what broken and you can find ways to glitch the mechanics. Which has been shown with the 3 man VG among other 5 man groups killing bosses left and right.
To top off broken raids, the fact Anet builds around raids has kind of crushed PvP and WvW. I mean some of the spam is insane in zerg fights.
So of course now they are back tracking, they will probably do something mesmers. They will probably kill druids healing a bit and they will probably do something to necros.
All in all who knows, Anet has a constant history of this with in this game. think about this, GW2 was so different from other MMOs with the play style, mechanics and they way you could be anything you wanted and have success in PvE.
You look at the past meta events since the Scarlett lanes, Vine wrath lanes, TD,AB,DS, Triple Trouble. All are lane events. Only silver wastes protection and Verdint Brink have been new and awesome to play. Everything else has been kind of the same old story.
I just started my fractal back pc and i was like whaaaaaaaaaaa.
I dont have any pcs from salvaging weapons or armor. And i was like who would do such a thing?
I have 8 characters and 5-6 are fully geared in ascended crap and each time i get one i throw it on a character who i dont really use and watch them be fully geared.
I couldnt even imagining crafting a ascended pc and salvaging for energy balls.
