Tired of getting STUCK in walls

in PvP

kdaddy.5431

It seems to be a new problem, I never noticed so many people getting stuck than now.

I have almost 10k games played.

Pre HOT i could say i got stuck in a wall maybe 10-15 times. Not bad for 5-6 k games.

Since HOT i would say ive been in walls maybe 30+ times with around 4k games played.

I have not played a PvP match for over 2 months but with the amount of push-pulls they added and the speed of the game going up 10X. This was going to happen. Also Anet seems to push out big patches. For instance they barely touched WvW for years gave it a huge update with rewards/pips/ and some basic life improvement. PvP might had gotten it with the changes to kylo and sky hammer but to me it just made them worse.

I mean they straight gutted the identity of what sky hammer was and Kylo became baseline. My other complaints about it aside PvP is probably due for some basic life improvement or something new. Or i am completely wrong and they are only working on the expansion. So imo it might be 1-2 years till Anet really addresses the some the path way and building issues.

There is... So much invulnerability.

@Aeolus – That’s funny you say that, when Scrapper was obviously designed purely for PvP and WvW…..

@OP – There is too much spam in general in the game right now. Too many passive defenses and passive procs for sure. I would like to see it all toned down for sure. Though I have to say, DD’s (core thief doesn’t have nearly the evade spam that DD does) evade spam has already been nerfed significantly, and I think its dodges are in a good spot right now other than unhindered combatant (seriously, “inhibiting” conditions are supposed to be one of the counters to dodge spam, so being able to trait your dodge to remove them is not healthy in my opinion).

I would really like to see most passive defenses removed, more passive procs removed, more flat dmg bonuses removed from traits, and just condi and boon application reduced across the board. It would make the game much better to play.

Thats only scrapper though and if i may add alot of people when raids came out were using revs and scrappers to break the bars on raid bosses.

Even when premiering raids as the next exciting thing for the game, the devs were using scrapper.

Obviously there have been alot of changes but i think scrapper was suppose to play that bruiser/support role in raids but they simply dropped the ball comp wise across the board.

Someone please explain finishers

Can someone please explain why finishers exist? Specifically, in PvE (I play in PvE 90-98% of the time).

Consumable finishers seem totally useless in PvE except fighting against the leftover stuff from LS S1 in a handful of locations.

Also, how on earth do you use them in WvW or PvP? They only work on players, and if you take the time to dig one up, you risk the player reviving himself, or someone else on your team beating you to it.

Finishers used to be unique to PvP players in GW2. It showed players who had played a certain amount of games/ players who spent X amount of time in PvP and they were rewarded for it.

Anet decided to kill finishers by making them very easy for PvE players to get and then trying to sell them on TP for money. Like many have said it was a cheap ploy to get more money. So after that didnt work they found something in HOT.

Gliders and guess what when the next expansion comes with mounts, take a wild guess what TP cosmetic item for 2,000 gems will be?

Maybe some of us actually want to use the core specs. Maybe some of us prefer not to use the new elite class mechanics. And yet maybe we still would like to use the new weapons or skills.

so you want to use the elite class skills without the mechanics… and this makes sense to you how?

next you’ll want to use ele utility skills on your necro just because you shouldnt be restricted by classes…..

Elementalists got the Tempest… a spec that gives them access to 4 new abilities tied to their attunements. If you follow the meta guides they make overloads out to require you to sit in a single attunement for an extended amount of time, but the truth is you dont. You can very easily do a complete rotation in each attunement and overcharge then switch and repeat. All the versatility of core still exists with the added bonus of overload. This is NOT a sidegrade, there was no tradeoff, its a DIRECT UPGRADE.

not true on the rotations remaining the same, i had to slow down most of my rotations and/or sit in a single attunement for way longer and use weaker skills than i normally would have to be able to use the overcharges…

Engineers got Scrapper… with that came the function gyro… sure it may be seen as largely useless but its still a new mechanic that was simply added at no cost. And do you know what that entitles? Yup, its an upgrade… a largdly uselss one but an upgrade nonetheless… there is also the whole deal with the hammer being their best Power weapon outside of kits.

i take a dps hit when i switch to scrapper over core engi, and i do so in order to be able to use the stealth & function gyro’s, seems like a fair trade to me.

Tempest is a million times better and try using Engy in WvW and PvP without scrapper.

Im pretty sure there is a million PvE builds people can play but there is only 1 real build you can use in PvP and probably WvW.

I’ve been using core engi in pvp for the past 2 seasons… try again

HAHAHAHAHA so what?

I use core Warrior for S1-2 and i got to legendary.

I used full trap ranger and pure glass cannon rifle warrior for S6 and if i played enough games i would of been top 250 NA.

Im talking actually being competitive, in S5 of PvP i was in Plat 2 and people were running alot of the same builds because they are simply better. Pro Players are using them in TOL/ ESL/ ALL TOURNAMENTS because they are clearly better.

Since you said try again i say prove it, show me that legendary rating/Plat 3 rating with a core engy and play history. I still have my S5 ranking where i finished around 1719.

Also at that level where your trying to actually compete you call out the the vanilla player since they will be easier to kill and do less damage.

The very root of the problem with Conquest.

in PvP

kdaddy.5431

Im sorry but not gonna watch the video because conquest has been the game mode for 6 years.

There is nothing wrong with conquest and everything is wrong with balance.

If you have high mobility you should be glassy or bunkery not both. Currently in GW2 there are no bunkers, just support characters or support bruiser classes like engy and ranger.

Also if i may point out your example is no good, it isnt realistic for any situation.

If a player can decap/cap a node they probably will. If a player cant there is probably a reason like the player going to stop them will win the fight and cant decap it. Also there are very few ESL level players in the game. Like the top 50 players in the game all know one another and if your on the out side looking in there is probably a reason. A tutorial that helps you better understand base mechanics/rotations will not all of a sudden turn a above average player to a ESL player.

Seriously conquests issue is that you need multiple styles of play with multiple individual build comps as well as team comps.

This game hasnt had it since the D/D ele meta days and i think the community has finally said enough.

It’s hardly a huge bonus. Why are you so bitter that players that stuck by wvw have been proportionally rewarded for their efforts? Where is your sense of fair play? By the way, you two can earn These Rewards And More if you play the game.

I am not bitter, i think its a great system for people who stuck by certain game mode being proportionally rewarded for their efforts. That is why i think its great idea to implement this system to all reward, or at least as much as possible. For example a high level pvp player should always get more pips toward their reward track than a lower level pvp player who is new, even if they are in the same match, same team, but because the higher level pvp player have stuck by pvp for so long they deserve more pips. I mean I am a dragon rank in pvp, I just dont think its fair for some player who previously only do wvw and are level 1 in pvp, coming in pvp and earn the same amount of pips as I do. Its the same concept with wvw pip reward system. All I am asking for the same type of reward for other game mode also.

Yeah I totally agree with you, higher level pvp player should get bonus pips per win. I would recommend:

Starting at Dolyak: 1 extra pip
Wolf: 2 pip
Tiger: 3 pip
Bear: 4 pip
Shark: 5 pip
Phoenix: 6 pip
Dragon: 7 pip

LOL did i miss something?

PvP was made easier for the casual PvE player.

Heck its why S1-4 was different from 5 and 6.

The PvP community hated how Anet made PvP seasons and the PvP rewards PvE friendly. I love seeing these threads where everyone wants it easier but say things like No legendary armor should be in raids because they are unique to raids along with the titles/AP/Guild Hall rewards.

Its so hilarious seeing these things, i cant wait for Anet to cave so i can completely quit this game. My god, to think this is what Anet wanted as there core base fans.

I dont get it, how does this making have anything with PvP community hated PvP rewards PvE friendly? In fact its a proposal that will make dedicated pvp community feel more rewarding. I mean most high level pvp player are the core pvp community, this is a proposal to integrated their pvp level and time they spend so they can progress the reward track faster than the causal pve people who are just there for rewards! its the same concept as the new wvw system! High level wvw players progress through reward faster by gaining more pips and high level pvp players progress through reward faster by gaining more pips. So I dont get it? what are you exactly againist? Do you want the reward system not effect by the player’s wvw or pvp level? Im super confuse on what you are trying to prove here.

Im saying leave it as it is.

PvP players are not worried about the pips since Pips just give out gold and shards which most dont use and those shards get you armor that many cant craft since they play most of there time in PvP. If you have ever watched the ESL players playing on twitch or there uploaded videos they are trashing most items.

Players want serious rewards, serious prestige for the time/work/ or ability they have played at.

PvP got none of the above. I was in Plat 2 S5 and finished plat 1, i got my legendary wings S2 and i see players that are at silver and below skill level with the same wings and titles. S5 they brought new titles but did nothing about the new levels of cheating going on with in the Season. S6 came and nearly no one played and once again players with low gold skill have the same titles and potential ESL players. (if the GW2 scene had a ESL)

Thats just since HOT, a major patch that happened 3 years ago made PvP AP/titles/finishers were made really really easy for PvE players which started the PvP scenes death.

In a MMO like this you need rewards you get for accomplishing a mission- a short term goal- you need rewards from a chain of missions which get you a slightly better item- a above average goal- and you need long term rewards for those that who put the time into a game- a long term goal.

Anet needed to implement this idea shortly after GW2 release.

Here we are 6 years later and this game is releasing items for WvW players, they screwed it up for PvP.

I was just saying there is no need to change anything simply because its about the prestige of playing a game mode. PvP players who played 10k games should have a dragon finisher. Not someone with 500 games, players with 5,000 WvW levels should get more then players then those PvE heros who are at level 200.

At no point should we be punishing the kid who spends hours practicing dribbling, shooting, lifting weights, running. Just because the kid who didnt want to do those things now screams " its not fair, he gonna play in the NBA now and i want to".

It’s not discrimination. It is rewarding those who’ve played wvw for years. Why should new players, who might leave wvw altogether when they have their rewards, get the same amount of pips as those loyal to the game mode?

I welcome everyone new to wvw, and hope you find it fun, but you have to earn your ranks and rewards like the rest of us. Wvw has been neglected for ages, so it is past time for those of us playing this game mode to get something from it.

Please remember, someone else’s rank doesn’t take away from your fun and rewards. Stick with wvw and you’ll get there soon enough yourself!

Your post is the very essence of discrimination. You played WVW those years ago for what is was back then and you gained numerous hours of game-play and enjoyment. Giving you EXTRA rewards literally every 5 minute tick is too much. Rewarding extra for the content you enjoyed in the past is wrong. You have already had a head start on the achievement points and so giving you permanent boost in your pips is simply outlandish. .

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Hey i also dont like legendary armor in raids, fractal skins in fractals, that PvE players make more gold.

Also i hated when students studied before tests to get good grades when i just want good grades.

Also if your using the word discrimination like this wouldnt that mean that WvW players have been discriminated for like 5 years !!!!!!!!!

You missing the point…nobody here wanna get T2/3 armor or Legendary Backpack without doing some hard work, most people are fine with it, but the problem here is that the way that the reward system works right now, its clearly unfair to some % of the playerbase, and that its not okay.
You say you want Legendary Armor and Fractals Skins? Well go do fractals and raids, and you know what, your progresse aint gonna be slowed down because you havent invested “X” hours on PvE…if we both start doing any of those activities, playing the same hours a day, in the end of the week, we gonna be at the same point, which its not true if we talk about WvW now.
Also, dont forget that WvW players no longer have to go to PvE to unlock dungeons skins, ascended trinkets(why a WvW player need ascended gear, considering that was made just for high level fractals?), cultural armor(way cheaper then on PvE), story exclusive gear that should be unlocked by the achivements(only need to do the story episode and do the reward track), etc.
The thing is people like you have no real arguments, is just the same old “I played longer so I deserve more rewards”, when no other game mode follow that same philosophy.

But you didnt put the same amount of of time in WvW.

I put time in before there were rankings, i was playing the orbs at the top of the map and i still have my pearls from the quaggans.

That aside PvE makes alot more gold and takes alot less time period.

My guild used to run dungeons, all but CM. We could finish 2 dungeons paths from 6 of the dungeons a hour. That was around 120+ tokens and 15+ gold in a little over a hour. You realize that for the longest time gold actually costed us WvW players money? Having to buy siege, upgrade keeps with 5-10+ gold a upgrade.

There is nothing stopping you or any other player from getting a WvW item. You can get them all, I and my 2 running mates the past 4-5 nights have been getting between 4-10 levels a night. I was 900 5 days ago and now im almost 920.

Im not even running with a zerg, its our own 3 man party taking camps, defending camps and towers.

I dont understand why you think its unfair. For instance i use to PvP alot, i was on a PvP team and competed in the AG tournament. I was in Plat 2 and finished Plat 1 in S5.

In PvP if there is a TOL tournament, if i make the top 250 ( i was in the top 175 in S5 at one point) i will get a exclusive title/ reward from PvP.

All that happened in PvP was Anet caved to make everything easier for PvE players. If you guys complain enough maybe Anet will cave to this too.

But you cant sit here and complain when its simply time you are upset about. WvW players put in alot of time when there was no rewards. They got the ability to get rewards tracks but it still takes alot of time.

To shove it back in WvW face again, PvE makes 10000 X more gold then WvW players. I ran T4 fracs last week and made 20 gold not including elite drops. Ive made 8 gold in WvW for 5 days.

Anet caters to the casual so you can keep trying but im just saying its not unfair, not even a little.

A Stronghold Rework?

Stronghold is the last thing in the world they should spend dev time at. It’s a failed attempt at copying mobas for an MMO.

Stronghold is PvP for PvE players. PvE players are better off with pure PvE content and PvP players benefit more from new maps and PvP gamemodes. Stronghold has no target audience, or at least not more than a few dozen players.

I’m not sure if I agree. Unless you are saying mobas are for pve audiences?

Derail topic imminent!

Anywho, I too agree with the above posters. Stronghold isn’t worth Dev time…being… I don’t want a whole year of 0 SPvP content just because they’re working on Stronghold. That’s exactly what will happen. The game mode will just have to wait till the next expansion.

As for suggestions, why not make it more like a Moba? I’d like to earn trait points and create my build throughout the game mode within a period of 15-20minutes.

uhhhhh a absolute no, this is the first season of LoL where i did ranked and i lost the interest to play after 20 games.

A Stronghold Rework?

in PvP

Posted by: kdaddy.5431

kdaddy.5431

Stronghold suffered from the fact ANet didn’t push it at all. They should have actually had tournaments with it instead of “We’ll see what the players compete in” and then only hosting Conquest tourneys during the “trial” period.

After all, why bother playing and getting good at a mode that never will get you actual rewards?

This would have increased attention and given opportunities for iteration on the mode. Instead, they just put it out there and let it fail.

It was in 2 tournaments, 1 at release of the stronghold and 1 later where the Abjured won both for NA.

Even in S1-2 when i did que up for Stronghold those ESL teams were 5 man queing it and it never became more obvious of how broken it was until i saw that.

Literally 5 man groups running with the door breakers and twice i literally said they full 5 man push it so we summoned like 3 archers and 2 door breakers and all 5 of us went to defense and we couldnt kill the door breakers or them.

I find stronghold to be very fun when you just got people running around, fighting each other for champions and playing it like it suppose to be played.

But for competitive play it is the worst thing ive ever seen.

I’ve been on CD for maybe a year now through all types of fluctuations and i stay because i love it. It’s home. both my self and my guild even if we are small have poured our hearts into CD. Tonight a blanket statement was made by someone i respect that’s a major voice on CD even if that respect only goes in one direction. That if you don’t use TS than your not an asset because you aren’t really helping. I’m sure a lot of people feel that way. I know its a big help in wvw. But it was really the first time in a year i felt like wow kitten my server.

Even if we were roamers which we aren’t we are a small ops guild of seasoned vets that responds to all major calls from tags and larger guilds for aid. I feel like that’s a pretty big kitten you to people that put in time and effort but don’t use TS. I guess i just needed to vent because if I didn’t i was gonna seethe about it until i moved my entire guild to a new server.

HAHAHAHAHA hey,

I was Rawrr im a Turtle, are you talking about the commander and his guild who ran from every zerg fight ?

That was a PvE commander if i ever saw one, we took the walls down at Bay just so he could run to hills to take that keep which was owned by a different enemy and they said it was part of there plan ………………………………..

Dude fluffy was making jokes all night and they didnt respond to us after they ran from the tower fight.

Im sorry you were upset and im glad you get to vent. I think i was more in shock after he rallied EBG players to CD already zerg and he took 50+ people to bay 2-3 times and he wiped us each time and he/she with there guild were already half way across the map.

Ive been on CD since Pre Launch and this was a first for me, hilariously frustrating stuff.

LOL

Honestly, taking away the fact that people probably felt frustrated with such commander, it was one of the most hilarious thing I’ve seen happen on CD.

I was roaming, giving zerg positions on map chat and keeping Briar’s wall damaged throughout the night and would occasionally join said tag just to see the tag make a turn and leave his peeps to die in any sort of fight/encounter they would have. I was imagining he on TS saying something like: ZERG! RUN! SAVE YOURSELVES! Do not fight, ruuuuuuuuuuuuun

Funniest thing is that said comm would only communicate in team chat to auto promote himself to try to look good to make up for the people who left his squad because of his ways and nag about TS.

Oh, by the way, I was there when he left Bay for Hills. I had a gigantic question mark above my head, asking why would he leave bay to hit undefended paper hills which anyone can flip, he don’t need 40 for that and so jeopardize pretty much the best chance we had to take bay back.

Hey OP, just laugh and ignore. Keep up with your gameplay, you have been doing it for an year. Take it as one of those funny things that happens once in a while, don’t take it personally.

LOL were you the one always watching the NC. I tried to help there but literally when that commander went for bay.

I said “2 at NC” and they wrote “screw the north camp get to the tag” boom 1/2 of us are dead.

Like you said we had been trading Hills all night and this commander literally wiped the Zerg 5 times just on the Home map and i was only on for 4hrs. I got whispers and im a bit curious how many times this commander wiped on other maps.

If you are not inTS you don't matter.

If you are following a tag and they are using TS you should join them in TS. I’d rather have a smaller organized group than have a bunch of rally bait pugs kittening up the fights.

If you aren’t on tag do whatever you want. Someone tells you to get in TS because they are to lazy to read scout reports in map chat tell them to go kitten themselves.
(Although I’ve personally been using it more while roaming because the PvE players are constantly spamming team chart with useless kitten.)

No No No,

Let me tell you. I am on CD and i believe i was there because i remember someone getting upset about the commander a right hand person saying if you are not in team speak dont talk.

I can tell you literally with 100% conviction nothing could be done. This commander ran from every zerg vs zerg fight. When the enemy zerg just jumps at you and your commander runs everytime.

1/2 the zerg is thinking we fight, 1/4 of the zerg notices that the commander turns into Usain Bolt when he/she sees a enemy and then the rest of the group is like why did no one back us up?

Seriously it was right after we attacked bay.

They set up about 6-8 catas at bay, we have a larg zerg. Those of us on catas took the walls down. The commander literally left us to attack hills and 1/2 the zerg died on the attempt at bay.

I honestly thought the commander was trolling us, they were calling for help from all maps since they have had our Bay on our Home BL for 20 HRS.

After taking hills and a tower the commander did it again when we went for the next tower on the bottom next to bay. The map when dead after this because everyone was tired of being wiped and the commander and his/her guild leaving what ever group is attacking the wall.

Think of Aladdin when Abu grabs the sword and all the guards are like “AHHHHHH he has a sword” then the boss guy goes “you idiots we all have swords” the commander was the 4 guards afraid of the monkey with the sword.

Joining them in TS would of helped nothing

That literally has nothing to do with what I said……. but to play devil’s advocate were you in TS? Maybe the commander was saying things like, “pull back so we can catch them in this choke”, and then the half of your zerg that wasn’t in TS charged into them and got destroyed forcing the commander to run.

No one is saying you have to talk in TS but if the commander is using it to drive the zerg you should hop in and listen or go do your own thing. The only good excuse for not doing so is if you are hearing impaired.

I was just commenting on that first line of if your with a tag you should join your TS.

Also no, this commander jumped BL and i got it from whispers that this commander died in every fight which is why they jumped maps. Having his/her guild mates follow with the pug/roamers on the map now with a tag to follow.

I was whispered twice to take over the tag and i havent lead a zerg in 2-3 years. (once was from a friend but the other was from a person who knew me back from the olden days) One also asked me to tag up in map chat i think just to annoy the commander.

Im just trying to paint the picture of how bad it was.

If you are not inTS you don't matter.

With the new expansion, will Anet avoid HoT?

I have to say the story was pretty weak in HOT, maps were not to bad but there was only 4 so the variety just isnt there.

Then you get masterys and elite specs which in my opinion were horrible. It killed the fun from PvP and WvW. Anet came out with this huge WvW patch and i can already see PvE players leaving. Im currently in CD and tnoight i had what seem to be a PvE commander leading the zerg only to get criticize for running from every fight. You could tell the commander and his guild mates were getting frustrated with some of the comments from players on the border land questioning his/her ability.

I mean Build diversity is such a huge thing for GW2 since we only have 9 classes and for Anet to make elite specs the way they did was a terrible joke.

Out of the 10 or so guild members still playing, all 10 of us loved GW2 core. We just simply wished for something more like end game content or challenging rewards to earn.

None of us felt HOT brought that though i can say 6 out of the 10 like HOT with 4 of us not. We all agree that the content was very short so think that thats what Anet truly needs to address in the next expansion.

Elite Specializations - were a terrible idea

While I understand what you are saying, Elite specs are supposed to be better than the base class (and most are, with a few build exceptions), but the issue is there is only 1 for each class. Later, when we have 2+ elite specs to choose from it will be much better because they will be situational. It will go from a guardian always taking dragon hunter, to taking Dragon hunter when a ranged pressure/trap aoe is needed, or taking Cleric (just throwing a name out) when they need to heal.
As far as weapons, I will miss not being able to use a great sword on my necro when not taking reaper, but a lot of weapons you really can’t (or wouldn’t want to) use without their corisponding traits anyways.

Incorrect
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG5oUKqbIVM
Streamer/commentator/reporter Angryjoe directly asks in the above interview if specializations are supposed to be a step up in power over the base classes, and the developer states no, with no hangups, hesitation, ifs, ands, or buts. And it is far from the only place the developers stated so.

Lol i love angry Joe, I feel like he didnt give HOT a review because there wasnt enough game and because he knew he would have to give it a bad score after giving core GW2 a 10/10.

Why should it be easy?

You seem to be confused between “time gated” and “hard”.

It should not be easy. But it actually is. It is totally easy. You can do it brain-afk. No skill required. You just have to spend a lot of time.

But they “overtuned” the time gating.

If its so easy why are all these people complaining?

You say time, ok i can understand that point of view.

But now these players have to spend time in a game mode and try to assimilate into the WvW server. If a player follows a zerg but doesnt stay with the group or runs a bad build and dies, they have to learn from that. If they want to run with a small group and run around the zerg thats a different type of build. Not only will it take time but it will take less time for those who are actually good at it.

For me personally raids are not difficult at all, ive cleared W1 i have a Xera kill. It doesnt interest me because it requires 10 players who have X build with X team comp and if 2 out of the 9 players are bad or if the 1 X role is bad we all lose.

That is something that takes time, ive seen raiders who full legendary armor run into PvP and be silver 2, gold 1.

Those are not high marks of skill, they got there VERY EXOTIC/ LEGENDARY GEAR because the spent TIME/GRINDING away at raids.

If you want to explain the difference go ahead, if you want to go into PvP and get into Plat 2-3 Legendary. Yeah this takes skill and there is no real reward for it.

So please, elaborate what you are saying.

How do you figure they’re unreasonable?

Go start a new account in a low population t3 server and tell me how fast you can climb it. You’ll have your answer. If you’re not willing to do that, then you have your answer as well.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how unreasonable the requirements are. You just have to stop thinking about yourself for a minute (I know it’s difficult for many) and look at the bigger picture.

Also, try avoid assuming. Read before assuming.

Im on Cd and in less then a hour i got 2 levels, i was using booster from Guild Hall and a personal booster. I did not fight with the zerg since my internet cant handle it so i missed on 2 keeps and 2 towers. I and a small group grabbed camps and towers away from the zerg. We got into a few little fights and ran over twice from the zerg not warning us that the engemy was headning our direction.

I really dont see a issue with leveling, also if you want to talk future of the game just look at PvP.

S1-4 Anet made it super easy for player to get the Legendary back pc. The above average players like myself got it in S2 very quickly. Here was the issue, by S4 none of us were playing. Casuals were getting 10 min que times.

You need your veterans, ESL players consistently playing the game. S5 hits, new rewards, titles and money system. PvP players are playing and a ton of PvE players collecting rewards.

S6 comes with no changes to titles, made the new armor harder to get and made it PvE ish with crafting. PvP players dont want to craft and PvE players quit playing because they didnt want to work for it. Couple that together with less veterans playing and less PvE players going in and the game mode was embarrassing to look at compared to S5.

People have to have something to work for, short term things to grab are dungeon armor. Fractal items/gear towards ascended.

Heck i dont even raid and i completed W1 with a basic understanding of what the bosses do. Raids are simply learning skill rotations and having the right gear.

PvP and WvW were suppose to be the long term goals with killing 250,000 players. Winning 10,000 PvP matches, Anet gave these game modes really nothing to hold there heads up and even made PvP a joke when it came to actually getting better at the game.

So if we are taking long term Anet should not change it. It will keep veterans in the game longer, it will help them recruit PvE players who might eventually want the items down the road. So lets say raid nights are sunday and Fridays and 1 day a week they might find a day to WvW with a Guild.

Or you make it easier and PvE players get there items, veterans/ main WvW players get there items faster and play less. PvE players will play less and WvW dies faster.

Take a look at the ratings in S5 of PvP and then look at S6. Players in gold 2 where getting into the top 250 of the game when some players had alt accounts. In S5 you had to be plat 2 and almost plat3 just to get 250.

Think about the hundreds of player who didnt play S6 and the skill gap. A player with a rating of 1780 S5 got rank 250.

S6 a player with a rank of 1630 got 250.

You cant bring in long term health of the game when it comes to Anet who have consistently change things from hard to easy or easy to hard just frustrating the community on both ends.

They should keep it the way it is and simply be a long term goal for the game.

Why should it be easy?

The real PvP players hated and i mean HATED the PvP patch that gave away the titles/finishers 3 or so years ago.

The PvP community hated how easy it was to get the Legendary back for PvP. I got it literally 3 weeks into the second season.

There are supposed to be long term rewards in a MMO, everything is GW2 was super easy to get. I dont even raid and i was able to finish W1 of raids by just looking at meta battle and picking 2 classes i had gear for it.

Right now you have raiders telling people to get gud because the raids are easy, you have PvP and WvW players asking for anything reward wise that isnt given as a cheap shiny for people to play a game mode for a month.

New players coming in should think ohhh cool i have something took look forward to if i play this game.

Many people have left the game in the PvP scene because of a terrible meta and Anet catering to the PvE community.

These WvW items are not for new players. They are WvW players, i have friends with literally 5k levels. Are we suppose to treat them as someone with 200 or less levels?

Why do you think the PvP community was kittened? S1 threw S4 you had players in Legendary who were Bronze and Silver level Skill, then S5 hits and BOOM there is a rude realization there. It took Anet 5 Seasons to let people know there actual skill level.

And now it took Anet 6 years for a real reason to play WvW. The idea that you could play another MMO and some how get elite level gear in a couple of hours would be looked at as a joke.

Anet made a huge mistake by not having early things to work for, mid level things and long term things to play for. Its the reason Anet came up with the terrible idea for masterys and working towards Elite specializations. Had Anet given HOT actual story/ items/ skins to work towards the game would of been alot of fun.

Im sorry Jumpin Lumpix.6108 if you think 1000 wvW is alot. I have over 9k PvP matches and 9 characters in full ascended in PvE and almost 29k AP. Im not even in the top 1,000 for any of those things. Just like your assumption of the WvW community. There are literally multiple people who finished WvW with 10,000 levels.

Seriously take a step back and realize this is something some will have to work for. And it will come easier for those who farmed the PvE WvW and those that have actually played the game.

For instance i dont care for raids, so i know i will not get the unique skins, items for the guild hall, legendary armor. The PvP items were handed out like candy from a guy in a van to children at a play ground. Literally anyone who wanted candy could get it, they just had to get in the van.

Heck WvW armor might not even be for me since i hate the meta of GW2 since HOT came out but there are people who played this WvW and deserve a little piece of the pie they didnt get in PvE, raids and PvP.

You realize that what they managed to do is basically turn off those serious WvW players who would do the little jobs that ensured victory, right? All they managed to do is incentivize blobbing.

Also, I’m not buying your nonsense about 900 in 20hrs.

Majority of the people tooting their horns and acting like elitists about the whole thing earned majority of their ranks from EotM farm before it was nerfed.

Just so we are clear, I did not get most of my levels from PvE WvW.

If you look at my WvW AP, i do the little things mostly since my internet doesnt let me play with the zerg. I defend towers/ camps and i grab camps.

Lastly me at level 900 and i havent really touched WvW since HOT release and i did what i would say as maybe 70% of my WvW worlding before Anet implemented ranks.

But like you said im a elitist, im fine with that as long as we got all the facts.

Ahhhhh right of course i must be one of those people, except i have over 28.5 AP. I was as high as top 700 on the AP Leader Board. I have fallen greatly since more HOT stuff comes out and im not a fan of the HOT system.

This is a picture of my PvP at the end of S5, didnt play much of S6 though i was still in gold 3 playing goof ball builds.

What is the point of this post? It has quite literally nothing to do with what I said. Did you just want an excuse to post your screenshots that mean absolutely nothing?

Serious WvW are not turned off by this.

I posted to show my activity in the game. You will not find alot of players who have 9k games played in PvP.

Also look at the forum, you have a thread that basically complaining that the rewards are to hard to get.

Yet you have a few serious WvW players begging for Anet not to cave in to making it easy. I have a discord with my small guild and i know a CD WvW guild. They are letting this week fly by since we all knew there was gonna be huge activity.

None of the SERIOUS WvW players are turned off by this. There is activity and thats what WvW needed. The scores are usually defined after the week end as well so many will wait till reset when alot of us the PvE players will start to quit since they wont continue since they cant just farm it for a few hours and get stuff.

I really dont know who you have been talking too but ive been on CD since pre and we have been as high as T2 and low as T5/6 and alot of the serious commanders on this Border Land left.

Especially when our 3 WvW guilds left for other BL.

So please dont tell me about serious WvW players, i was there for almost 5 years. I took a break from WvW since HOT. So please dont act like you know more about the scene, i have my people who talk about games with and you have yours.

Legendary WvW players? Really? With the current state of balance? You must be joking. This is an MMO. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but you’re being a snowflake. Please spare me the “I work so hard” speech in regards to a game. We all bought the same game you did and your snowflake rant of wanting exclusion speaks volumes to how this once great community is just as toxic and elitist as every other MMO.

How am i being a elitist?

You do realize alot of WvW players played WvW for just the fun. When it comes to my ideas on WvW it is not a elitist attitude. I simply want the players who have been playing WvW to get there just due, whats wrong with that?

When it comes to PvP i am elitist though. Many are, Anet made a legandary back pack for PvP and the majority of players in the game made it. Skill did not matter.

If you think i have a problem with this, well i do. I dont see how Anet can take away things from PvP that were difficult to get and make them incredibly easy such as finishers.

Then make raids and hide MP, titles, unique skins, AP and guild hall rewards behind them. I dont understand that logic.

For me there should be goals in a game like this that runs for 6+ years and is still adding to it.

A game like this needs short terms goals, medium range goals and potential long term goals.

There is nothing elitist about that especially when ive been someone who supports the raiding community though i dont raid. I would like to see PvE players who get multiple characters with 100% exploration get a unique title/ mini.

I dont think its elitism when i want players to get things because they go above and beyond. I dont want players who buy legendaries getting unique titles. I dont like Anet giving unique titles to players who buy them for 10,000 gold.

Hey if you want to call me elitist im fine with that as long as players who play the game are being rewarded.

Edit- Legendary WvW players just mean they play in WvW, you know that right? Like there are players i know who are not great in combat but they enjoy playing a role in a zerg. I dont think there is anything wrong with that.

There are people who finished WvW and got to 10,000. Right just so we are clear people have finished WvW completely. There are players who completely completed PvP.

I mean wouldnt you call that legendary by title if nothing else?

I like what they did. Participation is up (it’ll settle down as the days progress) and we can get better rewards for doing the things we already like to do. I call that a big win.

Ohhh i agree but its the foresight of Anet that is bothering me.

Like ive said not a huge fan of HOT. I wrote in HOT beta how the new specs would be bad for PvP and WvW. Alot of players have adjusted but for me its like Anet cant see whats in front of them.

Like people have been looking for a reason to play these 2 game modes but there just isnt one. They finally give a reason and oddly they thought no one would show up?

I mean ave que was like 2 hrs for EB.

Example is i run a hot dog stand and business has been slow but i still have alot of followers on FB and instagram. I send out info that i have a new Seattle Dog and its delicious. Ill be selling at this location at this time, boom info is sent.

I agree about the rank requirements I just think they should be a lot higher. 2k for t3 seems way too low to me. 4k at least.

Meta wise I dunno I’ve been playing it so long I don’t have much of a problem but I can imagine if you go from PvP to WvW it might be kinda startling.

Yeah i wouldnt have a problem with that, rank wise. WvW legendaries should be for legendary WvW players. They have a million raid titles/ unique gear/ Guild hall rewards. I dont understand why it should be easy.

Yeah PvP was my love, the big nerf to PvP making it accessible for everyone took some wings out of the sales. Other then that GW2 PvP was amazing pre HOT.

Since HOT i have not liked the meta in WvW or PvP so im kind of like a old man saying to get off my lawn and Anet is saying they own my lawn.

Never Played A Game With Such Terrible PvP

Literally…. damage for some professions is off the roof and CC makes some matches unplayable…..

Literally:

CC
CC
CC
CC
CC
dead

No where near enough stability/cc breaks to cope with it.

I have played many games with such bad PvP, actually much much worse, just some examples of off the top of my head:

EQ, DAOC, AO, LOTRO, Aion, Lineage, WoW, Rift, Eve Online, ESO, Archage, many others over the years. Only games with decent PVP were FPS and pure MOBA. Not a single MMORPG I have experienced had good PVP in it, and as bad as this is, its actually still the best.

Starcraft felt pretty good to me for a long while, but not sure if that can be considered a PVP game and most definetly not within a comparable genre.

I too have to disagree.

For instance maybe you didnt like the game play. For instance i wasnt a huge fan of GW1 PvP.

But games like Aion and WoW i knew it was more build set up and gear set up then anything else. Like another game i loved was Diablo 2 and i always played a Bear Druid and casters were always stronger but if i had better gear i could win fights vs them.

So in a sense the balance made sense whether it was build specific or gear specific. You just have a preference to that type of combat system and the set up.

In GW2 it is suppose to be about skill but the problem becomes when X build is 10 times better then Y build. For instance the player who wants to play sword thief and runs into a D/P thief. It really just isnt fair.

If you want to go down and say core vanilla burn guardian vs a DH.

I give these examples because the builds i used in WoW, the build I used in D2, the build i used in Champions Online. If i loaded them back up they would still have some success depending on the style of play/changes of that game.

For GW2 they had GW2 core PvP for 5 years. They bring HOT in and nothing worked the same with less build variety and less team comp variety. When you start talking the meta it still doesnt make sense with in the rules of that game.

You have no idea what changes Anet will make. No one has a clue the direction of where this game is going.

So first off i have not been able to get into WvW because i had a 100 man + que for EB and 50+ for CD.

Thats on Anet for not looking forward. In there meetings of how to get more WvW participation im wondering if anyone brought up. Man if this works how will the linked servers effect the population for maps?

The other thing is when is Anet gonna address the meta. I understand you love your raids and dont want to have to touch it. Seriously though HOT meta builds are destroying 2 out of 3 areas of your game.

This one is for the community since 1 thread says 2 years for rewards. The OP of it says that they are a serious WvW player.

If they were they wouldnt be complaining. I played the majority of my WvW before we got rankings for it. The other players i know who seriously played WvW have over 2,000 rank points and that was easy.

Like we were playing WvW for fun and now that WvW has something to play for it looks enjoyable from that perspective. So for example AP wise im on T5 of all my WvW except the player kills. (bad internet, cant join zerg fights) With that said i have barely touched WvW since the HOT release because of PvP seasons, raids, new PvE maps, livin story.

You can not call yourself a serious WvW player if you have less then 1,500 WvW levels. I have 900 and been in WvW for less then 20 hrs for the past 2 years basically.

People talking about Anet adding grind to the game. Guess what this should of been here from the start. MMO are suppose to have things that are easy to achieve, some with mid level difficulty and some achievements for life long players who play the game for 5+ years.

Anet has consistently made things easier for PvE players who wanted something and didnt want to put the time in. Raids give quick rewards, dungeons give quick rewards, i hate that Anet adds PvE to PvP and WvW rewards.

With that said GW2 has been out for 6+ years now and since the made PvP levels easy to gain, this would be the first thing players actually had to play and work towards.

Before the big nerf to PvP, PvP used to give unique finishers /rank and titles for completing X level.

Finishers are still there …

I like the way GW2 works and I don’t propose we change it. However, all design decisions come with consequences and I can agree that the lack of a treadmill, while a great idea for many reasons, can make the game feel a bit aimless and unrewarding at times.

Really? In what way is a gear treadmill rewarding?

It is but its a little different now.

Before if you saw a player with a shark or Phoenix finisher you knew they put work in to get those finishers. With shark needing 250,000 experience per level and now its 20,000.

Everyone has all the finishers because Anet made it PvE accessible.

Why is that bad? I assume thats why you quoted me, well what does a PvP player with 7k + matches play for?

Its a good question because alot of them are not playing. Thus why i added it to no rewards for high level content.

There's no reward for higher lvl content.

OP here,

I think my post needs a little more explanation. So here’s where I’m coming from. I geared my character up because I wanted to eventually do ambitious content, and be able to really contribute to the effort. I didn’t want to be “that person” who was playing a DPS class, and doing less damage than non-dps characters. So I spent a good bit of time addressing that first obstacle in my way.

But, of course, there’s SOOOO much more to it than just gearing up your character. After you have all your gear, then you need to jump into the content and actually learn the intricacies of each encounter (i.e. learn to play). That’s pretty much where I am right now. And I’m finding that, a lot of times, I’m very hesitant to really push out of my comfort-zone, because people are terribly impatient with group-members who do dumb things or don’t know all the things that they know.

And I just wish there was something left in the game to incentivize the process. But there isn’t. I don’t care about skins and auras because I’ve already (painstakingly) chosen a great look that I have no desire to change. I don’t care about miniatures, or guild-decorations, or achievement-points, because they’re utterly irrelevant to what I want to do in the game. I don’t care about mastery points because I already have all the ones that will ever matter. And I don’t care about legendaries because they’re functionally identical to their ascended counterparts.

So I’m just looking at this stomach-churning grind through the content, with temperamental people who are way more skilled/experienced than me and with no actual rewards coming my way. And there’s a part of me that just says, why bother? But then, there’s nothing else in the game. I can’t stand to do another Tequatl kill or Dragon’s stand meta. I’m bored to death of open-world content.

Ok i understand this.

So i have played since pre and in core GW2 there wasnt fractals or living story to play.

Dungeons for us were what raids are for you now. Especially the Arah dungeons, they were crazy hard before the nerfs and new stat armors and ascended armor.

But after that what was there left to do in GW2? So for me it was playing WvW (before we got ranking points) and PvP. Now i fell in love with PvP because it was fun, alot of different wonky builds you could play. Like in the olden days i messed around with Pistol thief like condi pistol thief and zerker unload theif. And as a warrior and ele main i have literally thousands of games played on those 2 classes.

Before the big nerf to PvP, PvP used to give unique finishers /rank and titles for completing X level.

I feel your pain because PvP and WvW was the end game content for alot of people. They are trying to bring excitement to these 2 game modes but HOT killed the fun in them.

So in all honesty if you dont enjoy WvW- PvP. And you have done all you can in raids, you simply either farm AP or wait for Living Storys come out. The good thing about GW2 is there is no subscription fee so you can always come back.

I agree, GW2 core was so great at giving multiple things.

The second HOT came out creativity went out the door.

They basically threw up the white flag and said lets see how long we can recycle content with limited changes. And see how much of the player base we can keep to continue paying the bills.

There's no reward for higher lvl content.

Yes…. Higher level content:

Fractals & 100CM:

  • legendary backpack,
  • unique skins,
  • stat infusions
  • Guild Hall decorations

Raids & CM:

  • legendary armors,
  • ascneded gear,
  • unique skins,
  • aura’s
  • titles

WvW:

  • Armor skins,
  • Ascneded armor/weapons
  • legendary backpack

PvP:

  • Armor skins,
  • PvP rewards from season (titles, legendaries, pre’s),
  • skins unique to PvP,
  • Ascneded armors,
  • legendary backpack,

PvE

  • Mastry levels,
  • unique skins from some worldbosses,
  • titles,
  • skins,
  • aura’s…

Gold, Karma, other currency and AP’s not included…

Endgame… what do you expect from endgame may I ask?

I have 27 ascneded armors on 22 lvl 80’s, 1 legendary armor, 1 legendary backpack, 6 legendary weapons, some aura’s, 28+k AP, a serious list of titles (I use only a few), I suck at PvP, but have seen ppl doing good and receiving pre’s and titles. I have a private guild hall decorated, for myself and close friends, I have all lvl100 CM skins unlocked.

I’m Unclean, but not Eternal, and only did Cairn CM, mostly due to lack of time. I do not have Slippery Slub

I have a decent account…

And now for the most important bit:

I have FUN playing this game, and with this community, being the best reward of all

In the end you play a game because you like it. Which will be your game’s reward.

You kind of kill your own argument there. You said ascended gear but thats not unique. Actually ascended gear is handed out like candy out of a van now. Anyone who walks up to it can get a piece as long as they jump into the van.

At the end you write about all your ascended gear, guess what i have 9 characters and they have all ascended gear too and i havent even played HOT that much.

For PvP you wrote titles legendaries and pre’s? If you could explain please. Because you only get unique armor if win TOL events. Anyone could get the legendary titles S1-4 which is way the PvP community was so upset. Like i had friends who were in bronze3-S1 who got there legendary titles and i didnt play S4 so they have a title i didnt get and i was in Plat 2 in S5 for a bit.

WvW just got new stuff so way to be 2 years ahead of the curve there.

Now raids, i give it up to ya. raids got all the goodies, all the end game stuff. I agree here+1.

But everything you named was random RNG skins, drops or titles you get from finishing a JP.

That isnt high level content. For instance i didnt play much of S6 in PvP but i did not finish in the top 250 for S5 with a rating of 1708. In Season 6 i would of been in the top 100-150. Once again the community is looking at Anet as really? The killed the rewards and made PvP rewards more PvE with crafting so serious PvP players couldnt even make the items.

Got to look at it from the other side as if you didnt have a van with candy

@ phys

You wrote that elite specs werent the problem but the fact they were Op was.

UMMMMMM yes thats what we are talking about.

If Anet simply made new specs which could give classes different styles of play style then bam no problem but they didnt. They gave us super power spec lines which meant all builds are to support that spec line.

I used warrior as a example and no one is arguing the uniqueness of the elite specs. Yeah in theory they are awesome but lordy lord could they have destroyed 2 side games faster?

Seriously PvP and WvW took huge hits on HOT release and PvP only survived because of PvP seasons and even then the PvP population got small and smaller.

Its never a good sign for WvW and PvP when Anet is trying to address the issues but cant since thats the balance teams job. So you get odd splits like “rise cool down from 40 sec to 60”.

Like seriously Anet is slowly nerfing elite specs but nerf right there should of been a WvW only nerf.

The reason elite specs are so bad is because they didnt work well with the already known core spec lines and they didnt know how to balance them at all.

Seriously WvW, PvP and even raids have had the worst build diversity i have ever seen in a PC game.

There's no reward for higher lvl content.

Op I am telling you, I highly doubt you will find any gear treadmills fun in the current mmorpg market with a 75 80 hour work week, I played eso before gw2 and you have to invest quite a bit of time into the game because of the rng, even if you craft your own gear it takes a long time to get all your research done and use only crafted sets and trust me you will want to go beyond those.

Your telling me you unlocked all your masteries? The thing about guild wars 2 is your meant to play it moderately, you can play other games on the side, but again I do not recommend a gear treadmill the rng in most of them are pretty bad.

I agree i hate gear tread mills and would not play GW2 at all if they did that.

But im wondering why GW2 doesnt make unique rewards for X thing.

For instance a unique armor set for 10k PvP games played then 20k and 30k.

Same thing for WvW players.

Then for PvE players unique items for X amount of characters with 100% completion of core tyria.

People have talked a long time about why there isnt mini drops/rewards unique to a boss/event/ or achievement. They did it for the dungeon but then made it a item for guild mission in HOT.

I really wished they cared about the long term life of the game but they killed PvP aspect of this when they made levels super easy to obtain.

Lets talk changes that hurt WvW.

1- Mega Server
This one was huge, alot of us use to sit in LA hang out and play with the mini stuff like drums and horns and be good balls. Then every now and then someone would run into LA and say we need more for X. Jormag, Shatt etc. For alot of WvW players you run in and say we are gonna lose the keep in CD. (from crystal desert) WvW players ask if its upgraded because they knew it costed money. Bam we run in to defend and take back the bottom half and go back to chilling.

Mega Servers came in and destroyed it, there is no where to call for back ups. You literally have to Join a WvW Guild and then hope they are not there for K-trains.

2- HOT Changes for upgrades
Taking away the players abilities to interact with the WvW surroundings was icky for alot of people. A simply change suggested a million times was changing the gold to upgrade stuff for WvW currency.

Anet is literally adding PvE stuff into WvW and PvP and no one likes it.

3- New HOT WvW map
Lets be frank very few people liked it and i for one thought it was a joke. They literally put the new map on top of the old one when you hit “M”. I could of photo shopped it on better.

4- WvW rewards
Anet is also great at this which is they find a way to give what ever reward for WvW or PvP that they have. And make it as easy as possible so PvE players can have it too.

For me this is easily one of Anet biggest flaws which is playing right down the middle. Its like if you have 2 friends and 1 cheats on the other and the other beats the 1. Anet sits there and says come on guys lets just play uno. No someone has to say or do something.

There are WvW players who have maxed out 10,000 WvW ranks and they get nothing. Its a joke, in S5 of PvP. I made Plat 2 and finshed Plat 1. I just missed out on the rankings for top 250 by like 50 rank points. Yet right now im considered the same as someone who was silver 2. I have played almost 10,000 games and i have a dragon finisher, if you played 500 games you can have the same finisher.

Anet has a patch tomorrow and i will put money that if its hard they will make it easier and if its easy WvW players will feel crapped on. Its like being the husband in the marriage where you fix the cars, work 45 hrs a week. Collecting a little over time and then making the perfect backyard for your wife in your spare time. You finish all of it and your wife says she will make you a amazing dinner ont he new patio and BBQ area you made her.

You get home and you see your neighbor Ted sitting there. “UMMMM whats Ted doing here”? Your wife says " he could smell the delicious food i cooked and he came over". Thanks Anet wife.

5- This may be 5 but its the biggest issue BUILD DIVERSITY
Guess Anet sucks at balance. You make a game and tell people they can play there way. Yet like mention before the first 2-3 years of the game you play power. Then since the release of HOT you play condi.

There is a happy medium and we could have it if Anet balanced the game.

If the game is not fun we will not play it which is whats happening. Whole servers are taking weeks off because its not fun.

6- Ascended updates
Lastly Anet has not updated anything for the huge amount of boons and ascended gear they have entered in. I have seen 5-8 man groups eat 2 cannons and 1 arrow cart hits on a 1/2 dead gate and lose very little health.

There are coordinated groups in thei game Anet who mostly play WvW. I know Mike wants them to PvE but they wont. These groups have found great combo/party comps and Anet has never really looked into it.

This is once again a balance thing but hey raids are the future and present.

You missed his point completely. Regardless of win or lose, it’s not a fun fight.

BOOM +1

People keep counter arguing but if 1 player runs condi/defense with stun breaks.

If you want to compete you have to run stunbreak, stability, condi removal builds.

With the way classes can simply reapply condi after a bursts, it really destroys build diversity. This goes for WvW and PvP, Anet can make all the changes they want to PvP and WvW. It wont change anything because simply the game is not to play.

If im running a condi ranger (vanilla) build with 3 traps and entangle. If i hit you with the short bow 5 (stun) entangle you and hit you with all the traps. You should either have gotten caught or you used your utility skills like i did to counter them.

With HOT specs, thief only has to dodge or use a signet. DH just hit F2, warriors with longbow hit F1 or beserker stance etc etc etc.

I have a guild mate who has zerker and maruder ascended for his thief. For PvE/raids, he made a condi set of armor recently because its just easier to kill people in WvW.

Fun fights are entirely subjective. Personally, I quit GW2 for quite a while because I got so sick and tired of nothing but power based builds and how badly DOT play style performed.

And you are extremely wrong about people not having to run stunbreaks, stab, cleanses, PVT, hammers. Remember the 1st big longterm WVW meta ? It was GWEN or GTFO in WVW same as it was zerker or GTFO in PVE. This lasted for a LONG time about what, first 3 years of the game ? Also note that the 1st and biggest exodus of players happened right after the 1st tourney, long before any condi changes and still within the active GWEN days.

I was an officer / co-leader of a large guild back then, it was not uncommon for us to have 120+ people on TS and que up 2+maps. A few times we hit as many as 300+ active players. Then as things wound down, we went down to 30ish, 40ish.

I can tell you that in my guild, the vast majority of those people that have left (roughly about 90%) did so for 2 evenly split reasons:

1. We climbed up the tiers out of T8 and hit a population / nightcapping wall that we were completely unable to do anything against. People can take this sort of thing for only so long before they leave.

2. They couldn’t play their classes and had no effective builds for their playstyle, this is where condi came in. That is a LOT of people.

I also talked with guildleaders, officers, commanders from the servers we went up against, and they were in pretty much exact same boat back then. Granted that was only 4 servers or so, but am willing to bet there were way more like this, I just haven’t had an opportunity to get together with them on voice chat.

So while you may argue condi is making people leave, I will argue that the lack of will as well and has already been proven to do so.

Whats keeping me alive in the game at the moment is the new stuff, condi builds, new sustain builds, new metas, new content altogether, even the upcoming new rewards.

That all said, it does need some balance like non condi builds shouldn’t be spamming cover condis, and there really is no reason to have 25+ stacks of anything on a player, it just lags the servers, they will still die just the same. I would also like to see a general toning down of the powercreep and passives all around. But I most certainly do not want to regress to the days past with such limited play options.

The start of the game was bad, it only worked because it was new and fun. The quaggan, the orb, the fact people could die to cannons and arrow carts. All the exotic stuff played a part back then.

It was dying then Anet made the 6-6-6 and opened up condi. You could stack burning, stack poison but they still had base lines.

You realize that Anet upgraded “For Great justice” from 3 stacks of might to 6.

Right before HOT you still had to time your skills because they had 40-60 long CD and longer on elite. HOT skills all had less then 35 on release.

There is a happy medium of playing condi/dps. Anet is simply juumping threw loops between both never actually balancing the game.

People will play PvP/WvW but they will stay if its fun and makes sense. Power 5 years ago did not make sense and condi today is the same.

New Player, Sad Player. Expansion ruined it.

I would like to chime in here since you guys are talking something i agree 100% with.

Anet catering for the easiest road possible. Them nerfing PvE across the board in core GW2. The big one for me and alot of the PvP players was making PvP levels very easy adn accessible for the masses.

I was level 53 or 55 and i had to get 125,000 experience per level and Anet made it base line 20,000. People in Shark needed 200,000 + and Anet basically kittened on all PvP players with that patch.

People who play in certain areas want certain titles/prestige for it.

Im 100% for people who raid having there own raid armor/titles as long as it means WvW players, PvP players and PvE explorers get there own as well.

In Log Horizon the anime certain high level characters have certain special abilities for doing something very few have done in the game.

Anet started out that way and have consistently given in to people who want things easy.

Now Anet came out with a expansion which i guess many believe is struggling and its because they went right down the middle trying to care for everyone.

Anet why do you hate us?

How can people say this game is balanced around pvp while there isn’t even a pvp balance team of dev lol.
The balance of pvp in this game is just around change/removal/add sigils, Runes and amulets.
In every patch we had since raid release the balancing of skills and trait is 90% focus in PvE and 10% on pvp with really soft impact on it.

Yeah im wondering why people keep saying that the game has PvP aspects around balance.

The new PvP dev wrote a comment basically saying that he wasnt in charge of anything.

Im pretty sure Grouch left and the new guy came in like awesome great job. Then saw all the complaints and tried to change it and was told no and then vented to the community.

The small PvP changes they make dont even really make alot of sense. Instead of adjusting the damage on the F1 primal bursts they said SCREW THAT, DEATH TO ALL WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has always been like this, it’s not something changed with the introduction of raids.

You are wrong. Before HoT mostly elementalist Nerf/buff (since we are in ele subforum) were pvp focused.
Icebow4 and FGS4 are exceptions obviously

I disagree but think about what you wrote.

They nerfed conjure weapons to the ground and then when d/d was super OP in PvP Anet did what?

Nothing heck for like 2 months there was nothing but 4-5 man d/d ELE teams in ESL.

I just want to throw that out there, if they were balancing ele threw PvP im pretty sure they would of reduced d/d ele sustain and bumped S/F ele burst damage.

Elite specializations are first and foremost the big selling point of HoT, making them stronger than the rest was to be expected and they have been nerfed through time. The same thing will happen with next expac. Most specializations will be full powercreep and slowly they will get nerfed again.

Regardless of balancing introducing overpowered stuff was always a selling point for pretty much any game. Check other more popular games like Dota/Lol, new heroes/champions are always OP at release and get nerfed after a while. It’s how u attract population, then striving to keep them.

As for build variety, there never was much even b4 HoT as all classes still had a "better"build, if nothing else u have more choices now depending on the mode u play.

For example guard can be played agressively in PvP, defensively in wvw and full dps on PvE.Something like that would never happen without DH. Same with rev, chrono, druid etc etc.And ranger used to be the most “useless class” without HoT.

What?

In PvP before HOT Tage a EU player played bunker guard to support ROM playing zerk warrior. After the loss at WTS 2 Tage switched to burn guardian and ROM went to shoutbow, a support build.

This is before HOT and there was also a medi DPS guardian with GS in WvW and PvP. So your comment of it wouldnt have happened without DH is completely false.

Also your ranger comment, i used my ranger in WvW all the time. I used to be known on CD maps for my name.

But besides that ranger was in WTS 2 and was in many ESL games with players like Hiro using cele longbow and some other players using bear bow.

Please before you make comments like “ohh we didnt have build diversity before HOT” stop that.

Look at ele alone, d/d ele was the offensive bruiser. Staff ele was considered a bunker and S/F was the burst. S/F ele used the Air trait line, d/d used the fire trait line and staff used the earth trait line.

That was in PvP and WvW and now only plays heal bot in PvP. Look at ele in raids, please tell me the build diversity there.

Also i play LoL too, they added Xayah and even though she was OP if we on bottom got a kill for instance if i was Kayle. It wouldnt matter if she was OP to start because i could quickly turn that 1 kill into a steam roll with a good jungler.

1 small mistake or a difference in skill level makes a huge difference. A 5 man HOT team would crush a 5 man core team in PvP almost regardless of skill level.

And the same goes for 20 vs 20 guild fights.

As someone who loved GW2 PvP before HOT there was more communication and build diversity before HOT.

Not talking Pro teams but you have players say bunker/ support guardian or dps/condi guardian. Shoutbow or Dps warrior, you could just look at a ele and know since you could see signets and the only weapon they could use.

Heck before HOT there was a bunker thief i think by the name of glyph.

I cant argue with this games PvP being really bad now. I mean S1- S4 were horrible. I dont think its the worst out there but i can totally agree that it isnt fun or even a enjoyable experience anymore.

kdaddy.5431

Here is why i hated the elite specs and i had this opinion in beta when i wrote a few threads for WvW and PvP about it.

1- Boons
I do not know why they created so much boon spam. The rev alone just gives boons with no real thought process. Warrior got a ton of boons for going into beserk mode and a elite skill to get into it which means there was gonna be constant spams.

I head butt you to go beserk, i gain might, fury, quickness. Because of another trait line i gain might on weapon swap as well as a condi clear. This means i go into beserk mode to do damage with said weapon and then out of beserk mode i will sit in shield stance so i can again go into my rotation for more boons to do the most damage while playing defensively.

That partially covers A class when it comes to boons but boons use to have to be set up now we just get it from hitting 1 button and bam 25 stacks of everything.

2- Build Diversity
No matter where you looked build diversity became worse and worse in all games modes when HOT released. It was Bunker Wars in PvP with 3 mesmers and 2 revs on 16 Pro Teams between NA and EU. It was Condi Wars in WvW where classes played condi so necros could play epi off of them killing whole zergs in seconds with no counter play.

Now usually PvE is play what you want but not in HOT. The key to playing HOT is AOE and playing CC. Its why people complained about pocket raptors or X vet boss. I for one dont consider this skilled game play and i find it as acheap trick into forcing most players to play the same skills.

For raids you have seen the lack of creativity with revs, engys. thieves, necros and guardians not even having a role for the meta. At 1 point it was 2 mesmers, 2 warriors, 4 eles and 2 druids. You join a pug group and this was the team comp everyone wanted because it was easy play with very few down sides.

3- The introduction of Elite Specs
Bringing elite specs into a game that has been working very well for 4-5 years you would think Anet would allow its PvP players and WvW players to work towards elite specs.

Anet didnt do to include other game modes with the new abilities. This drove alot of people crazy at the start of HOT and/or players who paly multiple chracters and have to unlock it on each character.

4- The Future
Many have touched on this but Anet straight up ran out of ideas to me when they brought in HOT. Adding class specific traits so a class can use a weapon in that trait line is really dumb.

They needed to add new weapons in this HOT expansion so they werent just giving classes new toys to play with. We are getting to the point were engys have weapon kits they dont use and the next weapon coming out might be grenades. Like for ele who has elemental weapons (which they nerfed to the ground) such as axes, hammer and Greatsword. They are now simply going to give ele a sword, this just shows a lack of ability to incorporate new things into the game.

You need weapons that give meaningful changes to a class. This HOT expansion gave us spam especially on classes like thief with 5 dodge 5 and dodge. Who at Anet thought staff spams was a good idea? Or the DH traps F3- F1 pull into traps.

Elite specs shouldnt have been the be all end all, they needed to add to potentially different styles of game play in zergs, 5 man teams and 1 vs X situations in PvE.

Because they couldnt balance specs classes lost the identities they had for 4-5 years. Players were happy with the state of the classes before HOT, the only people happy now are those who really like raiding.

Anet dropped the ball hard imo for HOT, if they do the same for the next expansion many will not have a reason to play it.

Side note the story of GW2 has gone full GW2 EX-Machina please get that back on track for the next expansion

I dont know if you want to buy it now, the next expansion is coming out (hopefully soon) and you dont want to get stuck paying XX dollars for HOT when it might just come with the next expansion.

So depends on if you want to jump in right now or wait a few months and get a load of stuff to do.

Anything to not lock down collection of Mastery Points would be a big improvement. You still have to earn the xp, but Mastery Points in and of themselves is a HoT mess. I used to spend money on this game, but as long as all we have is this HoT mess, I will not be spending any money on it.

I think it’s important for a game to have a structure that nudges players to participate in varied content, even if they sometimes do so only for the reward. “Play the way you want” sounds great as a slogan, but how long are you going to play a game where the goal is simply to gain experience to unlock everything?

Isn’t that the whole point of having alternative methods of acquiring rewards? We do achievements, play different game modes, etc. If we reduce that to simply gaining general experience, we risk making it more of a grind even while it may be more appealing to the subset of players who doesn’t enjoy the particular content in question.

Heres what changed, core GW2 had X maps to play.

Orr had all the hard content with the Temples, if you didnt like ORR there was plenty of stuff to do.

There were boss run, JP, hearts to unlock and later harder content like Triple Trouble and Teq.

HOT did not give people multiple places to play which is why everyone has something different to say. Everyone in the game had a way of playing the game and HOT can feel like there is only 1 way to play it.

Your working for “alternative methods” is what people were looking for.

To me, it sounds a bit like cutting one’s nose off to spite one’s face. Or, perhaps, throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Assuming that you’re responding to Ashen, I have to say that I agree with him. Even if it turns out that I like some parts of an expansion, I’m not going to give Anet that satisfaction of knowing that I (and hopefully whoever has the same opinion) will just purchase an expansion sight-unseen. I don’t trust Anet anymore. If I end up liking parts of an expansion I might buy it after release or I might wait for it to be on sale depending on the like / dislike ratio.

I pre-purchased HoT because I loved GW2 prior to it and assumed the expansion would be more of what I loved. I won’t make the mistake of “assuming” again.

I agree Djinn — I prepurchased 4 copies of HoT assuming it would be at least as half as good as Core, 2 for me and 2 for guildees. There is no way I will trust Anet to put together a good expansion to core, that will encourage me to prepurchase even 1 copy.

Where as some of us, on the other hand, see HoT as an improvement to the game and are more likely to prepurchase the expansion.

As someone who mostly PvP and WvW, i dont see it as a improvement.

After paying $200 for core and HOT and spending a little bit of cash for some items because i really enjoyed Core GW2.

I think i will wait on this one.

Bunker Wars 2.000005 even more bunkers then the HOT release !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m relatively sure that if you add people who predominantly play PvP with people who predominantly WvW, they’d still be far less than people who predominantly PvE. It’s okay that some people don’t like the game. That’s fine.

The question is if most people like it or not.

HoT did make some serious missteps, though, only some of which have been corrected (in my opinion).

The mastery system, in my opinion, was not one of the serious mistakes.

I agree that its fine, heck its Anet game and you and many others enjoy it.

All im saying is it didnt have to be this way.

Instead of 3 meta maps there could of been 2, i love the DS meta even though ive only done it twice and i really like VB.

That doesnt change that Anet really screwed up PvP, WvW and casual PvE players experience with HOT. yes they fixed some of the issues later but when you charge $100 for a expansion you expect some things to be ready and nice to play out the box. Alot of players didnt like waiting 1 year for them to be able to get things that they should of got day 1.

Im just saying that GW2 could of been huge but HOT was a big step down from core GW2 and imo alot of players will wait to see the expansion before jumping in like the majority of us did last time.
