my #1 wish for a pvp patch is that it will happen
this will be my #1 wish for the 2nd pvp patch
whats happened to all those CDI threads?
there was an incredible hype at beginning, i cant even remember the last dev comment on a CDI.
did i miss it or is the hype just gone and forgotten?
It’s unplayable – not because of the ridiculous builds they created with the last patch – it’s because they force new players to play with experience players. It’s miserable for both.
Hotjoin is teaching people nothing but BAD habits – rage quit, double cap points, run dumb builds, etc.
sPvP is even worse. My win rate used to be over 60% when it was mostly experienced players on both sides and communication before/during the match. Now, it’s just a glorified hotjoin and people don’t even care or try.
I tried helping new people, talking strategy before the match, etc. but nobody cares anymore, so I just go through the motions too.
Occasionally, you can get a decent run of tPvP, but it’s sad what has happened and how many people have quit.
that mirrors my experience too.
i found myself not playing gw2 anymore. played gw1 for 8y. waited so long for gw2.
kept playing, kept believing. till now.
its just gone, everything.
recently started a beta – the twitchers are featured on frontpage-gameclient albeit not partnered. they even get spoilers from the devs to tease the viewers. the devs play and talk on stream regularily. A READY BUTTON. report system for leavers/afk. i am rank 23k something but guess what… i can see my rank (no percentage of all leaderboard) and my rating. i almost forgot how incredible it is to see your own rating and see it change through the matches.
nothing more, thats the incentive given – and its enough!!!
i had to admit to myself the devs really dont care about pvp, no matter what they might say officially.
there was a time where i got hyped – about the time grouch got hired.
in truth nothing has changed. (there were lots of updates which was probably a lot of work and i really appreciate that). for the simplicity of QoL changes to pvp nothing is different.
we dont know MMR (and/or the system behind it)
nothing to prevent uneven matches in first place (ready button)
no form of communication in matches of whatsoever (advanced pings)
there are no incentives to raise the teamspirit (a team lasts longer than 5 teamed-up single players) like teamQ, team-ratings, ig-tournaments.
it could have been…
the true potential of this game is so incredibly high.
to speak truth, i fully respect and appreciate the work you have done, it really is an awesome game. i just expected it to be far more pvp oriented (as published)

problem is, IQ tests dont verify healthy social abilities
i assumed it to be possible to put a bag from an inventory slot, into your inventory, then to your bank, transfer it this way to another character, replace it in a inventory slot and all items in this bag where moved along. (use a bag as a container)
i was very surprised that didn’t work.

Why don’t they have both 8v8 and 5v5…so that those who like 8v8 and those who like 5v5 can play whichever they want.
it was like that, and everything worked fine, until they decided to break it.
it did not work fine.
the issue with this situation was 8v8 being default map and therefore teaching/forcing the wrong gameplay regarding new players.
community pointed it out but never mentioned 8v8 has to be gone as regular map though, just as default.
my suggestion was, and i still believe its legit, to keep 8v8 as standard-hotjoin (because the format of hot-joining needs more spaces than aimed max-team-size) implement a non-rated teamQ (possibility to join as 1-5 man-teams) as standard arena and lead newbs directly after tutorial to this (assuming there is a proper tutorial)
meanwhile warriors are spamming perma aoe burning and causing burning with every auto attack.
suddenly one 4 second burn to a single target on a 10 second cooldown seems trivial.

plus the permanent luxury advantage of not using any heal skill… not once… never
the statement about 8v8 is true in case of the hotjoin system to make it work for 5v5 based games. 7v7 or 6v6 would work as well.
sadly but truly it forced players into wrong gameplay, so you had no real chance of learning how to fight nor to learn conquest.
therefore i am happy with 8v8 hotjoin been gone.
but this leaves us with a gamesystem not entirely working right now.
number 1, 2 and 3 i agree (1 should be hotfixed asap). hotjoin should transmute into unranked matches. instant penalties (10mins). join as in teamarena. rated for teambalance but without leaderboard etc.
number 4… everybody wants more gamemodes, as do i!
5 – never liked downedstate, never will
@infantrydiv, we could list individual stats for days, but what kind of features would you like on the scoreboard? Sorting? Comparisons? Histories? Live updates for spectators?
You know, for the end of match scoreboard, why not make it fullscreen a la Halo? Since there are so many possible stats to show, then I think it makes sense to direct a players attention to them in this way. You could even make it a part of the loading screen for the exit button, to make it non-intrusive. Also, histories would be great. I sometimes miss the scoreboard on some games and I find the info useful to analyze my plays. Even a limited one, past game, past five, past ten, would be really cool.
Fullscreen UI would be a bold maneuver. If we keep adding things to the end of the game like stats and reward tracks, we’ll need to eventually do something about the fact that you can still respawn and fight after the game ends. We could switch everyone to be friendly, deny respawn, kill everyone
not if there is an option to switch to show combat details in pvp.

reading through this post feels like being more and more mistreated.
with all the hype for new pve content pvp does feel more and more like the unloved stepchild. living in the same room as the beloved one. looking at all the cool new stuff my stepsister/-brother gets. then the room gets some renovation/new gimmicks, i know it was mainly for my brother, still i want to believe its for me also (aka wardrobe). besides i am told i get new awesome stuff in my playground at my side of the room. in truth my brother now sits on my roomside playing my game and destroying it, because the rewards he can perfectly use for his side.

there are at least ways to get a legendary through pvp.

Could I try to craft a legendary strictly by pvping (no matter how long it would take), or would I still have to do cruesome things like “explore the whole world”?
Is there anything else I could do, like crafting ascended stuff, esp. weapons, for wvw (Im running in complete exotics atm)?
you would still have to do pve to some extend.
– legendary: like you said explore the world. still you get 2 gifts per char you did 100% with. and you need a crafting profession for other gifts for a legendary (so some pve time to spend in crafting)
– ascended: crafting needed
besides from exploring and crafting i think you can get everything through pvp

Also the caster client dosent have a set viewer, blu was controlling the stream view and sireph was watching from his own perspective so commentating on action out of frame happens more often.
verbal coordination, like the camera guy will mention it on changing view.
over all, the casts with helseth as a co-caster were very nice, just as an example.
blu with his ‘action-talking’ and helseth with the tactical insights on why this move/rotation was good/bad. those were awesome matches (i believe he was kitten the 2v2 tournament as well?).

i do understand the bot prevention.
in my case though, if i have time playing since 2 weeks or so and i try to catch up i have no chance to do so.
i cannot do soloQ because i won’t punish other players for my bad interwebs connection.
wouldn’t it be possible to sum the 2 tier per day restriction up, so if i haven’t been playing for 4 days i am able to do 8 tiers?
this would not punish players like me with not so much time to spend on playing but still prevent farming/botting
Change it so that it doesn’t route to custom arenas, only the ANet ones. I don’t use it because I don’t want to play deathmatch in Courtyard and that’s where I get sent.
The “offical” Hot Join Servers are “technically” Custom Arenas, run by ANet.
That’s why you also get into “real” CMs, when you use the Join Now Button.
I also would like it, if ANet would deal with this topic, but I don’t know, how much effort this would take.I’m also versus the removal of the Button.
A reason why absolute beginners get into SoloQ and TeamQ is, because the interface (only 2 big buttons) for joining those is much more beginner-friendly than the pvp browser.
I think, we actually need the same kind of interface the Arenas have for Hot Join (including the “Join Now” Button) and another Button to pop up the Browser for manual joining.

i totally disagree here.
i used the ‘play now’ button from the beginning, never chose an arena from the list.
then i realised its most of the time 8v8 – so i created a filter for 5v5 and chose the one i like. it was a terrible time, full of searching free servers, entering them and getting a network error 80% of the time. so it got worse for me.
then there was my time with soloQ – which isn’t anymore because of an awfull internet connectivity – so back to hot join again.
i didn’t bother anymore for the 8v8, played anyways because i was lucky playing some minutes at a time. it was a really good usability for me, as soon as i managed to login i hit play now; or as soon as skyhammer popped…
the change to only 5v5 was a really good one; tremendously increased the quality of matches. on the other hand this change suddenly implemented custom arenas into ‘play now’ which should be strongly reconsidered.
so this is the only problem left with the play now button: the inclusion of user made custom arenas.
the statement
since the patch, the “play now” button seems to introduce more problems than ever.
is therefore completely wrong and the consistency of ‘play now’ really important.
all the bad aspects in which new players were put into are gone. the 8v8 cancer aka zergfest was the biggest issue in preventing l2p.
to give new players the right feeling ‘play now’ button should be way bigger – to make clear thats the first choice – and it should only put you in 5v5 anet-arena.
the ones who want to chose their liking are still able to do so.
if you, deimos, do not want it, simply do not use it.

i am a full 100% user of the play now button. i love it.
i love it a little less since it puts me into custom arenas now, but that is my usual way to play. my interwebs is really bad right now so i won’t bother arenas.
hotjoin is the only way for me now. since the change into 5v5 only there are even some really good matches. except if it puts me into a custom arena, most of the time thats zergfest/farming/10v10/daily/crap/kitten.
play now is the way to casually pvp for me. if this button wasn’t there it would be too complicated to seek out for free spaces through all the custom arenas, so i would find me probably not pvping at all.

showing ranks at the end of a match did nothing good for any player, not for a single moment since implementation.
it is a well thought step forward to not show them anymore; they were only food for flamers.
i thought at least in tournament matches they will implement leaderboard ranking. big shame they didn’t.
people were always complaining about meaningless ranks, that they were not showing player skill in any way, just some kind of time investment.

on the other hand i have to say that it’s a bit anets fault, because they have to deliver a replacement for players to show off how good they are.
that is just because people need to do so (i dunno why but most people do).
and anet never mentioned any kind of replacement. i’m talking about an ongoing process, nothing like leagues or anything mentioned to be seasonal.
something like titles for tournament matches won. maybe separated solo/team.
too many really good suggestions already on this forum for skill-showing titles.
So, here’s a question (purely for discussion):
If you had to choose one, would you prefer RANKED Solo Arena, or UNRANKED Team Arena? I’d imagine unranked team arena would still allow you to queue up by yourself or with 1-4 friends much like the rated version does now.

I don’t think it should be a choice; it should be both. This way the end state would be:
1. Ranked team queue (with improved matchmaking)
2. Ranked solo queue (with improved matchmaking)
3. Unranked team queue (matchmaking not needed since this is for practice)
i would even go further and do it like this:
1. Ranked team queue -> team of 5 ONLY (maybe split into “teamQ” and “guildQ”)
2. Ranked solo queue -> “as is” with exception of showing ranking instead of rank
3. Unranked team queue -> 2-team / 3-team / solo; but imo MMR is pretty much needed everywhere, because even getting rolled while practicing isn’t fun at all

there is no meaning for rank in any ladder-format, this should have been removed long time ago – keep it in hot-join and/or custom arena

my first and biggest suggestion on this CDI is simple.
if implementing such things (ladder/leagues/seasons), leave solo + team tournaments in game. dont remove them.
there is enough time to remove them afterwards, if it really happens to get less popular.
im expecting some massive pvp-content.
beside the maps there was no content update since release (patching the game to almost fit the releasepromises is no content update at all – so leaderboard, custom arenas, solo/teamQ updates dont count) so im really expecting a tremendous change here.
but tbh i won’t be surprised if not.

Merge the mists, one for na and eu. Since the pvp population is already so small, only makes sense to do this to create more teams, strengthen the community, show off your skins to everyone and what not.

1. You only have a 10% impact on the outcome of a match. win some, lose some. just go on and dont stop. if you are good you will definitely climb the leaderboard
2. your personal rating (MMR) which is calculated based on the glicko system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko-2) determines who you soloQ with.
your starting/actual rating, the formula for rating gain/loss on win/lose or the calculating itself (with all variables) still is secret to the community until a dev someday might reveal it.

Sure, there are aspects of BLU’s casting where he could improve. The dude’s only human, right? But judging by overall performance, BLU is by far the best caster this game has going for it right now. He is able to deliver plenty of information in an understandable manner within a short time span, and he has sufficient understanding of game mechanics to provide a reasonably informative narrative of what takes place during a game. Partnered with an expert co-caster (as Caed suggested in his thread), BLU can provide good running commentary while the co-caster explains rotations and other strategy stuff.
I seem to recall a tourney co-casted by Helseth, and I thought it was a really enjoyable combo. BLU brought the pace and the enthusiasm, while the surly Swede explained the reasoning behind each team’s actions, why they rotate the way they do, what they are trying to pull off etc. I thought it worked well.
yep, BLU is good (and does a lot for the game+community) and the pairing with helseth was the best gw2 shoutcasting so far.
Countless is clearly a repressed and socially awkward individual, who incorrectly thinks that saying “the plays” enough times will make him sound esports.
to me, since the first time i saw him on gw2pvptv, he is a full 100% a… [i cannot find an appropriate forum term]
“the plays” “the bursties” and “easily” or “all day” – makes me puke
i like classes who can tank a lot of damage while dealing an insane amount at the same time, some CC is nice also.
as the balance philosophy of guildwars says that there is no class in purpose of doing all these, i would choose as follows:
1.) warriors for their tankiness
2.) warriors for their dmg
3.) warriors for their CC
As for skyhammer in solo arena, we’re kicking around some ideas (definitely not ignoring you guys, just fyi). As of right now, we have no plans to remove it. We’re not quite convinced yet that the majority of our pvp population want it gone, so we’re trying to get metrics on that before we make any changes.
You guys really are out of touch with the community, sad.

Did you try opening any additional chests? I just opened a few different rank 50 chests and I was getting the normal amount of items.
i did just now, seems to be the normal amount of items. first items on screenshot are from tourney-chest.
this may effect only the rank-up chests, but this i cant tell before i get another 45k rankpoints

i feel the system is working good with some minor flaws.
i just dont think that two guys, one with 340/170 and the other with 21/1 ratio deserve the same positon on leaderboards.
it feels very odd. to me it is clear that the more games you play the higher you are ranked.
maybe it is working as intended, but as far as we have zero insight, it is not ours to judge.
to me people with less than 100 games shouldn’t be on leaderboards.
same should be considered when (if) ladder/season is going to be implemented
