tbh i dont mind in streamview numbers anymore.
i was watching many streams for a long period of time and then realised again that it is just much more fun playing myself. maybe most other streamviewers thought the same.

i too dont get how it could be any entertaining to watch a moba. i tried to and most of the time i see people fighting mobs and minions/creeps, there may be a netto pvp fighting time of 10% tops as i experienced it, rest is pve imo – just to lvl up and get more gold to buy stuff, which again is pve. it is much more boring to watch than conquest mode and i dont get how anyone can call this “real pvp” compared to gw2’s pvp.
for sure i would love to see more gamemodes, but this is for my gaming experience and entertainment.

besides that, i think a majority of the viewers like the streamer, not the game he/she plays.
so if you as a streamer want more views, be more entertaining (or be a good-looking girl – that sure helps as well as most gamers are megahorny puberal boys).

i would still watch major tournaments though, but there aren’t any at this time

i get the points, but from my perspective i don’t want to be forced to accept them where they appear. at least the ones which are able to move (like the one in the fractals), should remember their last position.
or positioning slightly off middle would still be remarkable without getting everything off sight

hey guys,

here is something i really don’t understand. why are all the popups appearing midscreen?
wouldn’t it be possible to place them at the screen boarders?
this goes for every popup in the game. you are fighting or doing whatever and suddenly there is a popup in mid.
maybe at least save the last position where it was closed.
for example you are queueing for tpvp and doing some stuff in the meantime.
or queueing for wvw, or at the end of a fractal, or being in overflow etc.
it would be really nice to see this one changed

dyeing issue with armor mix

thanks for your answer.
as i got my free makeover kit, i changed something on my sylvari. it was the size and the glow colour into white. while messing around i kind of fell into the wrong skin colour and applied it accidantly. before my skin colour was like midnight blue, now it’s midnight green.
after applying it i realized it, not before. it kind of sucks that you don’t see the shading differences in preview.

i really tried many ways to adjust the colours, but it appears to be not only depending on the skin colour, the whole environment comes into play.
i really think this is a very nice feature. but having it only on the dungeon armor gets me mad.
being in a winter environment (frostgorge) makes it blue-ish. in caledon forest it’s more of a green shade and in CoF it is a red one.
i want to stick to one set, and not have to be forced to change it in every other environment just to not throw up.
even dyed complete in abyss colour won’t fit everywhere – i tried it.

all in all it seems like the TA dungeon armor has a metallic effect based on skin colour and environment. the cultural does not.
this is an effect which you won’t see in the armor preview. well, you kind of get a taste of the metallic effect based on skill colour, but the changing based on environment isn’t there at all.

it would be okey for me to change my trousers into a cultural, but to me they all look awfull, from tier1 to tier3.

attached you can see the environmental shade effect on TA trousers vs non-effect on female tier1 skirt. and as you see it is all dyed in celestial

this rank removing feels like anet is addressing the complaints of all the people who stated how wrong the rank system is over the past year because it should be there to state skill to some extend and not time invested. i always thought like the complains are only there because there is no other progression system.
like it was in gw1, because the difference was to get rank points only by winning. in gw2 you get rank points no matter of winning or losing. there was the flaw.
in my opinion there is but no reason to remove the ranks entirely. this might be the wrong way to address it and may kitten many many players off.
just give a pendent to ranks by won tournaments. implement something more meaningfull. give the skilled players opportunities to show their skill.

  • leave rankpoints and rankfinisher and the way to earn them. dont remove this entire system from the game. even if everyone points it worthless (skill-based) it still is a way players may progress the more they play and therefore it has a reason to stay.
  • in addition get a new ranking system that is only for tournament wins. call it ‘champion rank 1 – X’ for example. give only champrank points by winning ranked matches (solo and team). give separate finishers and titles.

or maybe not finishers, maybe give the champranks a /fame animation as it was in gw1. just an idea in addition

with those options plus the season/ladder/division rewards there would be a ‘level-up’ progress for every group.

  • glory for everyone: system for buying stuff (cosmetics, unlock skills etc)
  • rankpoints for the casuals: the system which is already in. to unlock finishers and a way to show how much of a veteran you already are
  • champion rank for the dedicated: so the more skilled players have a additional way to show how good they are. maybe get some champion vendors to trade glory for explicit champion skins
  • division-rewards for the hardcore: because not everyone dedicated as much to pvp also has the time to do it. a possible place for legendaries? a wall of fame. make your character glow gold for being top of first division. let your awesomeness shine through the mists.

i am no hardcore player and don’t see myself as that skilled to truly compete in upper divisions. i play for the fun and really love to pvp. i followed the pvp scene for the past year and think the above 4-point-list would give great incentive for all kinds of players because somehow everybody has some kind of progression to work on.

2nd no. because it would be more like hotjoin (simply regarding by its name, not compared to the other pvp system called hotjoin)

such ‘workaround’ should never be an option for a ranked match.
there is only one true solution, and even this is no 100% fix:

  • 1 queue
  • 2 find 10 competitors
  • 3 ready up (every single one has to press a ‘ready’ button within x seconds)
    – if no → goto 2
    – if yes → goto 4
  • 4 mix up teams
  • 5 fight

which should be ingame since yesterday (or the day before)

I’m probably on the wrong time zone, but its 12:05PM and yet I’ve not seen the post PoP on the main page.

If it did appear could I receive a link to it, if not, did any of you guys know when it will be released.

After not getting anything for our community in five months, (with skyhammer being one of the lasts) I’m very impatient about seeing it, for god’s sake please don’t post this as late as midnight.

… I was expecting waves of 3v3s, deathmatches, timed rush matches, anything that would take away the necessity for stacking cheese builds and encourage diversity by changing up the goal. It just didn’t happen.

there are just too few functions in custom arena to make them really customizable. as they are now its just some sort of ‘private-hotjoin’ – not more.

i did suggest some extra functions a few months ago, which could deliver a huge amount of new player based modes (turn on/off areas/cappoints/mobs etc).
some functions which i expected to be in at release of custom arenas as they announced them.
sadly anets vision of custom arenas doesnt seem to fit those ideas, because i never got a response.

healing sig is a joke

with a bit of kiting and awareness of your oponents any player is almost invincible playing it. there is no timing of skill, it heals all the time. which means in the hands of a decent player even a 1v2 is almost a no-brainer.

even on mist npc’s if playing a warrior you need to do 1/20 of effort compared to other classes, whilst doing your laundry and kitten at the same time

-The most obvious one here is to make a player reach a certain rank before joining any rated match. I would think 15 or 20. The only problem is that because 8v8 still exists in hotjoin, you can’t be sure if the player ranked up playing a game mode that is not even a slight reflection of the real game mode

if there were unranked matches, deciding by those wins (say 100 wins or so) would be way better than by rank (=hotjoin)

so to me its a lack of infrastructure (which may be a result due to low player base)
i think there is nothing dev’s can do atm other than improving the existing and hoping for a growth

Regarding the discussion about one thread at a time. The advantage for us currently is that the team could concentrate on one topic at a time rather than having three threads to keep up with and therefore have more time to get involved. It would also allow me to enter the discussion of the threads in different areas. Note i am still undecided about this particular discussion. I to am very worried about the time it would take to rotate between topics and for this reason alone that could be a big enough con to not move forward with the above proposal.

about those threads and how you should approach them (1 week pve, 1 wvw, 1 pvp or whatever you end up with): are we talking about only discussing one specific area at a time or does it mean you are discussing AND developing only one area for that specific time?

i believe it’s about discussion only, but just to be sure

i think the cons on 1 by 1 are legit, but the pro is so uber (plus the bonus pro of having an amazing discussion leader) that i’m voting for the one after another version.
another argument are ‘multi area players’ – they are also able to focus on one discussion and maybe some of ‘the others’ will join the discussion which they won’t have done in the other way and may come up with good suggestions.

Did you think the top 3 format was a good idea? Do you want to see more developer responses? Do you have a better idea on how community priorities can be polled? Do you think your suggestions were ignored? Do you think it was hard to draw attention to the very good ideas? Do you think a vocal minority dominated the discussion?

in every discussion/suggestion/whatsoever thread i upvoted things which i advocate but never knew if it is usefull to do so in any way.
i think there can be a better use – especially in this sort of discussion/interaction with the community – of the ‘+1’ system. if someone comes up with an idea you like, hit the +1. as far as i can see it, there is no such big use of it atm, at least no one talks about it. maybe announce the use of it in the OP and tell people that upvoted posts will have a better chance to get viewed – if that’s the case anyway.
i believe this can also keep a thread clean

Why are lvl 1s allowed in rated matches?

Well to be honest, maybe rank 1 is a little low for tournaments. But if someone already has multiple characters at various levels and is an experienced PvPer then there’s no reason for him to be holding back his team.

Sure, you should be confident enough with your class to win fights but as long as you have spent significant time on that class that should be the case.

Personally I’d be ok with anyone in Solo Q who has accumulated 20 ranks across all his characters and has logged a significant numbers of hours on each character.

So no creating an Engineer and jumping straight into SoloQ. But no arbitrary barrier of entry.

Rank is account bound.

it is possible (i read it from a dev post) to seperate it class-wise.

but first a threshold for entering rated matches has to be implemented. a solution could be to take the number of won matches into count and let’s say after 100 matches (like the counts for the shadow/genius etc title) you are allowed to enter rated.

the better solution would be to implement an unrated Q and take those wins (and wins only) into count – class wise.
but i guess the population to split the Q into rated/unrated is too low

i think best would be to be limited to hotjoin until reaching rank 10 (account wide) -assuming hotjoin is 5v5 and teaches some tournament play. after that you can do unrated matches (team or solo) with a counter per class until the determined threshold of wins in those unrated matches.
by reaching it you are allowed to do rated matches.

probably all of it stands and falls with the population….

Custom arenas are just terribly made.
Anet needed something to monetize PvP, and custom arenas, honestly, where a good place to choose to do it.

BUT.
Custom arenas don’t do anything.
They literally dont’ solve a single issue GW2 has had short of ‘a place to duel’…

When custom arenas were coming out, from what I saw….
People were ecstatic because they thought they could seriously tweak maps to make new gamemodes.
People were ecstatic because they thought they could get a way to create servers for certain skill level of players (casual maps, competitive, exc.) since Anet’s match setup is broken (not matchmaking).
People were exstatic because the game might lean towards being more social like custom servers are in other games….

But they did nothing.
No one wanted token SPvP servers they could rename (and eventually cut skyhammer from.)
No one will pay for that.
And so they failed and Anet wasted a few months of time…

this was also my understanding from announcement to patch day.
i still would say i’d buy one if they give us the features needed.
i did some suggestions in a post several months ago how it could/should have been, never got an answer if it is even possible (but i think it is)
CA as they are right now are just not reasonable to buy/rent

dyeing issue with armor mix

hi!

i have an issue with the dyeing of my armor.

i was searching and trying a lot with armors to find the one that fits my likes best for my pixelated hero Orang Utan Claus (yes, thats his name yo!). so i went through this whole process for months and finally found the armor ‘constellation’ to pleasure my needs.

i now have a mix of cultural tier with TA dungeon armor, which is the issue i ran into. i tried many different versions of many colours but couldn’t find a matching one.
it seems like the dungeon armor is always a bit darker than the others with some blue glowing on it. the effect gets stronger if light tunes down (like in a dungeon, in the shadow of a house or all night through)

in the attachment you see it at night / at night in shadow / dyed white in shadow.
as you can see on white dyeing it is even worse.

now i want to know if i just have to live and deal with it (like it was intentional) or maybe it is just something nobody addressed till now and i just have to wait until it get’s ‘fixed’

i tried to preview other leg pieces of cultural armor, but it seems even those pieces have the same issue. (like shiny blue metallic looks) i can only tell by preview and it seems to occur only on legs.
saying that i don’t know if the actual wearing armor infects the effects of the preview armor (could be possible).
but as i am saving money for juggernaut i didn’t do some ‘real’ testing.

really wanna know what the problem is. please help

Elo/Glicko is a cruel mistress in a team game.

this might be true, but it worked f/e in GW1 leaderboard. you knew your rating and after some time you knew how much you will win/loose by facing better or not oponents.
at least you have had some kind of clue.
to me everything is better than absolutely not knowing whats going on.

i think play now should be 5v5.
but in the case every 5v5 server is full, it is ok beeing put in a 8v8 server.

i don’t think it matters that you will get more unequal situations, like the mentioned ‘going for coffee afk’ers’ because in the end it is still hotjoin.

may we get a more detailed view of what exactly was implemented to the system?

how does it work? are we teamed up then matched up and again mixed both teams or is it more like matching up 10 at once and mixing all up to teams?
also how is the shuffle working? is it like 1-3-5-7-9 vs 2-4-6-8-10 or 1-4-5-8-9 vs 2-3-6-7-10 or algorithmic random shuffle?

this would be awesome to add to patchnotes!!

it just doesn’t feel like pvp anymore, in moba everything is about some pve content and lvl’ing up. so many matches i saw where people wouldn’t touch each other for minutes because of lvl’ing up. sooo boring – go to pve!

Nah, if it was boring, mobas wouldn’t have such huge fanbase. One LoL stream gets more viewers than GW2 tpvp final at pax. Sad but true.

@ multiple people who commented on progression, ala moba games: We agree. While I think that leveling up and acquiring items/skills/gold is core to moba games, I think we can do something different which fits an MMO. I think we can give you guys the cool aspects of an MMO + the some aspects of a moba which fit our game well.

I dont think, that something different than leveling up and acquiring items is needed.
Some progression is needed and because it is the same way of progression for everyone, it is balanced. Maybe some builds are stronger in the early game and weaker in the lategame and the other way around.

I could imagine, every one starts with his weapon skill #1 and every other skill needs to be learned by killing enemies (like in PvE). And at specific levels, they get their utility skills and can choose them once and then they are fixed.

And please let us test those gamemodes too in early stages. Maybe introduce an asura, that invented an holo-deck and play on maps like “orange box” map in TF2, or css. The maps doesnt have to look amazing, but the gamemechanik should be tested by us as fast as possible. I dont want to see a 4month+ development, that isnt played because of some bad design decisions.
And some feedback questions like in the beta.

i kind of like the idea of a moba-inspired game mode, but i do absolutely hate the idea of a progression system as used in moba’s.
it just doesn’t feel like pvp anymore, in moba everything is about some pve content and lvl’ing up. so many matches i saw where people wouldn’t touch each other for minutes because of lvl’ing up. sooo boring – go to pve!

srsly i fear the fast paced game style gets lost in this moba world

that will always make a very simple and ease decision-finding and if you love life you will always go for fun.

if you have to ask yourself first, just stick to pve and go for your gold

the shouts for a working system are not about leveling up nor is it about ranking up the ladder and most pvp players dont take care about that. sure is it interesting where my position on the ladder is but i dont care about the ephallus that much.

the main issue is about getting decent matches with players at your rating.
i know i am not the best player, but i know there are many around my level and to me the indication of a good working elo/glicko (devil i hope its a glicko) mmr is when it faces me with those almost equal players.

related on soloQ:
the system atm is making a group of 5 and then searches for opponents. now as it is like that i will mostly get unequal matches because there is still the possibility of getting a team around 90-70% and facing someone around 100-300 or vice versa.
so the separated teammaking of the actual system is the big main problem right now – because it is highly demotivating wether facing good or bad opponents.

making a group of 10 and forming teams after that can be very good solution.

the problem with teamQ still remains, but i think this is an issue with participating teams.

it would be nice but i think it wouldn’t work because of the above mentioned clutter and/or troll. imagine the actual decay problem with every player several times on one leaderboard

adding a ranked/unranked option to both queues could be a solution to play with other classes than your main without impacting mmr nor leaderboard issues

It’s a combination of both – please feel free to roll one and try it out.

i did, and it feels ridiculous to play like the worst coward á la attack-hide-regen-reattack-hide…
so i never liked the play style and really hate those cowards – i still don’t think thieves should go because obviously many like it – but at the “s/d turning point” with all the evades it started to get disgusting.

thieves – like many others – got overlook because of the warrior QQs and as usual hide in their shadows ;p
i think the this change to evasion would be a good one

as stated many times by many players:

  • 8v8 needs to stop. hotjoin has to be 5v5 only as it is the starter for new players (still able to do more in custom arenas)
  • and the queues (yes both) need an ‘unranked’ option with MMR but without rating loss/gain

Here is a list of things that you should nerf:

13, Inf Strike – not moving people to somewhere without line of sight

Thieves rely on mobility to remain relevant – please get used to it.

14, Larcenous strike – remove evasion from flanking strike
15, feline grace – add 10s icd
16, Shadows refuge – cooldown

You know what sounds fair? Take the class that relies on evades almost exclusively to mitigate damage and kill their evades.
Why bother with 3 separate points when you could have typed “Lawl, delete thief”.

does it rely on mobility or on evades now?
imo with the stealth mechanic + evades + mobility i think a better way would be to make those “evade skills” a 50% chance to evade – for every evade skill ingame, which of course includes other classes – but evade itself stays as is
