i dont know if my client is different from yours – i dont think it is, but when i ping i have the option to drag down for an attention mark, drag right for a dont go mark, drag left for ok mark and drag up for go to mark. only shift clicking is the red circle and shift right clicking is for drawing.
all combined makes up option for good quick communication.
this might explain why it is so poorly used by all…

There is no reason why the match making could not rather do:

is it possible to set the death recap so that it shows only the dmg taken BEFORE downstate.
im asking cause im often in that situation asking myself wtf killed me, and then i get cleaved and instantly know i cannot rely on recap because it mainly shows the dmg i took in downstate.
which i dont care about.
or maybe split the display to show downstate dmg and ‘real leathal dmg’

i found myself in the same position as you – already gave up on ascended weapons but:
there are other ways to get asc weapons. just google it (there may even be a reward track where you get ascended weapon box out of it – not sure tho)
also you may throw an asc weapon with unwanted stats into the mystic forge to get the stats of your liking. again: google it.

i am more than 18 hours in on march 7th.
i am really kittened right now, because it feels like i wasted my day. without knowing any time i waited. i do not have that much sparetime in general.
today was my day off and i was looking forward because of the announcement of the league starting on march 7th. but there is nothing and the day is almost over.
why don’t you announce it wether with time or if you are planning to start it during the day announce the following one.
there are only a few hours left of march 7th, which makes it more of a 8th, so it feels like a wrong announcement.
the whole day i read people asking if the league is up, this leaves me believing i am not the only one who would have wished for a correct announcement.

they are implementing guild-teams. to my understanding this should or could be the league for full teams.
it would be fine for me if there was a maximum teamnumber of 3. so either solo, duo or triple cue coexisting and the mentioned guildteam as fullteam league.

for the sake of mixed (both pve&pvp) players:
make reward tracks to continue the masteries
this could be separated tracks for masteries or let choose a maguuma or a tyria related reward track to train the selected one for that region
or
use the ‘pvp xp’ to continue the selected mastery
this would work similar to the pve xp bar but with earned rank points (‘pvp xp’) instead

i’m a main pvp’er now but still took part at the guildwars lore since release of gw1 with every expansion ever since. so i am too very interested in the lore and that is why i even bought the full expansion package. i love what you do at arenanet, i always did and really want this to be an ongoing relationship.
i always liked the pve part of guildwars, and still do (at least partially) even since i joined the tomb of the primeval kings back then before it ‘moved’ to heroes ascent.
now as pvp and pve player i want to play the story without having to spend hours in pve – because i want to spend hours in pvp instead.
with the hot release and the need to earn ‘pve xp’ to train masteries it has become very difficult for me to get motivated to continue the story.
since i started to play, well more precisesly some time in since it turned out i need masteries to continue the story and it can only be trained with pve xp, i got a little angry.
half way through the second tier i stopped and do not want to continue this way.
i think you missed out a good option to please those players who like to do pvp as well as pve (like myself mostly to follow the lore/story but i am sure there are others).
so i thought about it and came up with two – in my opinion – viable/practicable solutions:
as above:

here i have some very interesting screenshots.
i like the beginning, where the match starts with 4vs4, blue team gets in a 6 point lead and gets another player. 5sec later red team brings an orb and as soon as this happened, the 5th player immediatly switched to red team.
i find it very difficult nowadays to get some proper practice on build tryouts.
the intended mode to do so would be practice mode. but since you are able to switch teams as your liking, i see a lot of people in practice mode waiting for a team to get in front to join it. in addition those guys run the ‘safe way’ – they start to blob.
on first hand i didnt care, because it wasnt about winning for me, but for practicing/trying some stuff. as soon as a team gets the lead by about 100 points, people start to leave the team behind. this results in unbalanced match-up where auto-balance comes in. so say a 5vs3 leads into a 4vs4 which opens the option for observing players (like the one who left the losing team) to join the winning team. now we have a 5vs4 situation, where as well no one joins the losing team. so for the next 2 minutes it is still unbalanced until someone gets frustrated again and leaves (the losing team). again auto-balance comes into play and again there is a open spot in winning team.
but since there is the possibility to switch teams it forces those narrow minded players to always join the winning team (and if not possible simply waiting for a free spot – since auto balance is active, and losing team gets frustrated very quick, there will always be a free spot anytime soon).
the best solution to this is by simply deactivate the ‘join blue’ and ‘join red’ option. so you still are able to ‘hot join’ practice mode by ‘join random’, but will always get randomised. no need to touch auto-balance or whatsoever. just take away the option to chose a team. no need to argue about fairness because it would be more fair than the actual mode.
and dont tell me you cant do it.
its your game, you can tell us ’okay people, this is the reason and therefore the option to switch teams in practice is turned off from nowon/for a test month/for whatever.
what do you think? why isn’t there any solution yet to this problem? is it because they have to wait for major updates and can’t change things simply as that?

that is mostly players to blame as i experienced. often times it just needs a little demotivation on one single player and off goes the snowball (situational to afk/feeding/trolling/flaming/trashtalking)
must be very hard for mmr formula to take stupidity or immaturity of players into count
If I remember the correctly from discussions with our server programmer, this is something we could add as a “nice to have” check in the matchmaking system, but I don’t think it could be something that would be 100% required to start a game. As you mentioned, making this a requirement for roster creation would add a considerable amount of time to the queue.
Not to mention every match has 10 players and there’s only 8 professions. 4v4, anetpls.

making chat commands may be an option for further commands in future, but just considering every possible command action, or even making it customizable is far away from keeping it simple.

i want anet to choose the topic
reasons: if it is a player chosen topic, you (devs) would know (or at least get a feeling of) what the community whants most and can be sure of a hype participation (i assume) cause its a community driven topic.
on the other hand, if anet chooses the topic, we player get a feeling of what you are working on and where you (devs) feel the need for community help, which i believe is far more productive than a topic needed but far way down the road.
if really used as such, this is a perfect way to tell and talk about upcoming features and players get a hang of the moving direction.

looks like you missed the meaning of this feature.
this is meant to be a custom arena feature to prevent uneven situations in tournaments where everybody is supposed to act with proper sportsmanship.
so to say the referee (CA admin) has an option to freeze the game.
my 2 cents about this feature: why the hell do you want to make it complicated? like freezing everything and taking care of ticking condies, player standing in AoE at time of freeze.
here i recall the sportsmanship. this feature is only really needed for tournaments and it only needs to freeze time and score. there are tournament rules which can be changed to give a loss to the team disrespecting a ‘pause’ called from referee.
taking into count gw2 is very fast paced (faster than any moba) 2 mins of disconnect ticking points for another team is far more crucial than it would be in a moba environment.
condi ticking and aoe spells can be ignored because – guess what – points are on pause!
even if a team had actual pressure on one guy, referee calls pause, player gets killed, nvm points on pause.
so for CA it would be good feature. no need for it in teamQ/soloQ/hjoin

cause i saw this in veewee’s thread and because i think it is a needed feature im opening a thread on this. since beginning the pvp mode lacks communication features. there is one ping and you can draw on the minimap. but it just isnt enough.
i thought about it a lot, and taking everything into count, pros and cons, it needs to stay simple and have a quick readability.
i know it was already discussed several times, but as even wrote

The problem I run into when thinking about this is how to make the feature approachable for all game modes without requiring 50 different voice emotes. This could be solved with generic lines, or automatic clarifications (like Dota2’s missing call know what lane you’re in). Feedback on this feature alone in a new thread would be awesome.

how to implement it in an easy understandable way?
– starting from the actual ping feature:
the main message you need to tell your team can be split into 4 messages over all gamemodes.
– support needed (help!)
– coming to support (on my way!)
– retreat
– danger
top/bottom/left/right
top = danger = red skull on minimap
bottom = retreat = yellow exclamation mark
right = coming to support = green arrow
left = support needed = blue shield
an attack command already exists (default ctrl+t)
those are commands for a team and are visible the same way actual pings are – only for your team.

for commanding wvw those 4 pings are enough for teamcom, you only need to tell your team. for the zerg commands there is a commander – give the commanders their own commands for those things. this may be discussed seperatly in WvW thread?
PvE
thinking of pve (dungeons/events) everything needed is there to communicate with my team in a quick way. combining the chatwheel with ping and drawing i cant think of anything impossible to tell.
visability
i dont think making it chat commands and/or voice commands will do the job. i dont wanna check chat all the time, and if i listen to music i dont want to get voice commands loud enough. could additionally text in teamchat who pinged what ([playername] has ordered a retreat/[playername] is on his way……..)
sure it would be cool to have it voice acted, but does it add bonus readability/understandability? no, definitely not. i would even go further and say that would be much too complicated. keeping it simple is the way to go.
those would be pings in minimap, maybe make em visible on screen too. slightly differ those 4 in soundeffects.
implementing more options in a chat wheel is counterproductive. like i said before: more wvw commands shouldnt be teamcom but for the commander.
also making chatwheel commands as optional player choice is far more counterproductive because those commands only work if it is standard over all modes.
to prevent spamming make it only 5 com per 10 secs (not counting pings, only chatwheel com)
IMHO: making a 4-way-chatwheel asap as a first attempt and keeping the option for more commands would be the way to go. dont waste time wanting to get the perfect feature. do it, then tune it.

it should, it definitely should be, but i think there is a big issue and maybe the reason why it isn’t already there: how to handle team/guild/members?
is guild=team?
should a guild be allowed to run more teams?
is a team allowed to have subs? how many?
is a player allowed to be in multiple teams? how many?
for how long does a player have to be guildmember to join a team?
thats all i got from the top of my head, but these are things they need to look into, especially to prevent dead unplayed teams rotting in the league/ladder-system.
i often times find myself in hope for more communication. but to be honest there are no odds to other game developments and i dont feel a lack of communication at all.

hey, its pvp zone. do some pvp, earn you the honor of talking to/buying from npc’s.
like you can only buy vigil stuff by doing vigil stuff (or whisper…) in pve.
in addition there can be different npc’s (bank, guild bank, trading post) with different lvl requirements.
or even a different requirement in the form of that you only get access to guild bank by winning x matches in teamQ; the bank by reaching rank 20 (or whatever); and the trading post by defeating all npc’s (class heroes, chieftain, lord…) in the mist.
i dont like the idea with tokens or any currency tho. no matter how i earn the used currency, it will always feel like a waste if you hit escape one time too often and have to rebuy your bankvisit.
could be located at the tower where the 1-40 rank reward npc’s used to be. just to be a little offside.

Also, apparently in an interview at chinajoy, john corpening said there are no plans for new pvp modes in the near future. Is he mistaken or is there some miscommunication? Near future is an ambiguous term but id certainly expect new modes within the following month or so. We learned about new modes you were experimenting with I think back in 2013.

they are working on a new game mode. they were already a year ago. i believe it was said to cancel rumors.
taking some facts into count it just isnt realistic to be released in the near future.
the gamescom with its tournament is a big thing, the china release is still ongoing and they just started season 2.
maybe, and these are my hopes, after gamescom, after china they shift resources and start working on pvp content (NOT BALANCE) to be released somewhat mid season 2 fingerscrossed

Sorry, I meant I’ve fixed it for a future build. Things like this cannot be fixed without a build, and this isn’t hotfix material. You’ll have to wait a while.
A full UI for moving stuff around sure. Even something basic like reading offsetX, offsetY, widthX for each window type from a config file would be a significant improvement that provides a lot of player value for minimal work.
I play at high resolution on a large monitor and GW2’s UI is IMO really horrible for that kind of setup — opponent’s HP/status, self condition and self boon information is located in 3 different locations (which on a large monitor is impossible to read all 3 info sources in a single glance).
On top of being located in separate places, the icons for conditions and boons are tiny.
Not to mention every decent MMO since UO has had individually movable/scalable UI elements, why not this one?
The argument that you should be able to read boons/conditions from the rendered view only does not hold up in a game with as many large & spammy particle effects as this one.

im playing on 2560×1440 and all boons/condi-icons are allmost unreadable tiny. (e.g. differing stun/daze is very hard) changing interface size doesnt fix it plus makes the text everywhere a mess (overlapping – which gets worse while not playing in english). in addition, thanks to the fixed UI bound into corners the minimap and partymembers (essentials for pvp) are way too far away from whats happening.
an adjustable UI like GW1 would also help you mess around with different screens. you could even drag’n’drop menu items on your screen in GW1… why drop such amazing customizability?
