Someone mentioned some features in CDI do make it into the future patch. Like the dry top stuff etc… I’m not sure how many other stuff make it.

Sort of sort of not.

The things they said in the video is kind of misleading… Yah there is totaling no grind, but if you want a cool looking skin and want to spend enourmous hour on it…

my take on the no grind part is the lack of content beside getting cool looking skin. So it end up having grind for most people.

Whales would buy gold anyway. With how ANet implemented it, buying gold with gems “helps” players who sell gold for gems by keeping the exchange rate from going ballistic.

quite honestly, I dont’ think anyone know what’s going on in that black box called trading exchange.

The assumption many people put is the gem bought with gold equals the gem sold for gold. That is actually unknown if it is true.

Not calling Anet evil in anyway. It’s part of the business. And I think Anet is having lots of pressure to sustain their profit. Both from keeping players and persuading people to spend money.

back to the topic. Vayne said Anet was giving refund for the transmutation stone. If that is true, I dont’ think it is entirely Anet’s fault.

as for population, quite honestly, I never felt any population change when I play GW2.

Because whenever some one left my guild, there will be replacements.

We have megaserver for crying out loud. If Anet cant’ even fill one map, than the game is really probably dead. Else I can play fine without ever noticing the change in population.

And if WvW, just move to the higher tier population(and most likely the lower tier will be left to rot), but you won’t run out of people to play with.

Rumors have GW2 hired a monetization manager, who previously worked for Nexon.

And the fact that Nexon has just bought controlling interest in NCsofts stocks at the time had nothing to do with that? …..have you ever heard the StockHolder term “protecting one’s interests”???

… sigh … They don’t have controlling interest. 15% is not controlling interest.

It’s not, but I think it’s cited as the biggest single block of interest.

More on the topic of the video. I don’t think this game “caters” to whales in the same way Daniel is talking about. Sure, whales are welcome here but it’s not to spend tons of money to be superior, it’s merely to bypass the randomness of a Legendary (assuming that’s where the money isn’t going instead of other objects).

I’ve played more than a few games where you were expected to buy into the game and the game became more and more balanced around people using “VIP” or “Premium Currency” to get around limitations. Including some where it was blatantly required to buy in.

Right, those game blatantly required people to buy VIP and premium. But those games are actually the one that don’t cater to whale. It’s almost like a subscription. So there will be a bunch of people spending 10-30$ each month, but usually not more than that.

It’s kind of a confusing topic. I don’t know much about business. I always thought the people with the most share have control. That being said a few party can join together and they’ll have more share than Nexon.

Anyhow, Nexon have 14.68% shares. I would say if they want to put their cash shop manager into NCSoft, they’ll probably be able to do so.

ANet is indeed some what independent to NCSoft, but I think everyone saw what they did to City of Heroes. NCSoft does have the final say, they can make changes anytime they want(if they wish so).

If it takes 5 minutes to craft to level 10, that’s +25% time onto black lion keys. Which in theory could be transferred to the cost of black lion skins too. If true, then costs go from about 100 gold to 125 gold. But also there’s the cost of the craft leveling, which I would guess is probably 10-15 gold. So we’re probably looking at black lion ticket weapon items going up to 150 gold each if people are able to adopt key farming in accordance with this theory.

well there’s chef, which you could level up easily to 400 without spending too much (right now, but price may change in the future)

I never care too much about EC. That is just an opinion from someone.

The author of EC may be expert, but the person working for GW2 cash shop are expert too, who have experience in this field. Rumors have GW2 hired a monetization manager, who previously worked for Nexon. I would say that person have more experience and expertise than the author of EC.

My opinion is GW2 some what cater to whales, and some what not. If you compare various games, you’ll notice you can’t even buy gold for a huge percentage of the F2P on the market. I would say GW2 caters to whale more than those other games.

There were a bunch of games which were previously subscription games and turned in to F2P. Those games use freemium model. I would say in comparison GW2 caters to whale more than those games.

But if you compare GW2 to some other asian made F2P games, I would say those games caters to whale much much more.

A huge percentage of GW2 players are basically freebies. Who are happily playing because they don’t get tempted by cosmetic or gimic stuff.

And with the high gem price now, I would say more and more people are willing to spend 5-10$ to buy some cool skins or fun stuff.

Should gemstore items give AP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: laokoko.7403

laokoko.7403

Not shown in WP preview but it was mentioned there were collection for Black Lion weapons sets. I am personally ok with this as long as no AP is rewarded for these collections. Also I would also not support collections that reward AP from the gemstore armor skins (for example aetherblade armor skin set) because it would just lead to the highest people on the leaderboard being only those who has the largest credit cards. In a game where there is no challenges, and no challenges being developed, this would definately turn into a p2w situation. Want to be top in the leader board, forget about maxing all 8 champion titles, forget about maxing out all wvw title tracks, just slide your credit card in and buy all the ap you want.

P2W what exactly? a meaningless position on an even MORE meaningless leaderboard? Most of the top players on there share their account info with family to maximize their play time… they also do EVERY daily and monthly and spend COUNTLESS hours in PVP… unless you have been doing it from day one you will NEVER catch them unless they quit the game sorry…

But AP and collection are serious business. Else why would Anet add them in…

I remember the developer talking about veteran contents they added this patch… that must be it.

So, since I played WoW for so many years, paying their sub fee, buying expansions… the second they change something I don’t like, I should demand all my money back or demand a reply from them? I mean, once I stopped paying the fee because I didn’t like the next update, I should get all that money now right? Cause I could use that money…

well, that is a bad analogy. For a Wow comparison it is more like this:

say the Wow cash shop sell a cute dragon pet in their cash shop for 10$. And you bought it. After a few month, Wow implement a easy 5 minutes quest that give you the same dragon pet as a rewards, will you fill cheated? I sure will.

That being said, the new transmutation charges are cheaper, and you can also use the ones you get from map completion for lvl80 gear. So OP might get screwed now but if OP want more in the future, he can get it easier.

Apology from Anet will look like this:

“We are sorry this game doesn’t attract smarter players.”

I’m not entirely sure what they changed on the transmuation stone, or the exchange rate etc.

But it’s not something he could foresee. Take for example Anet made legendary into a skin, and many people have been screwed to make two of the same legendary. (eventhough they are later rewarded with a title….)

That’s simply not something people could forsee.

I don’t understand this topic. So you are afraid miniature price will crash (after the rise recently because of speculation)?

And you are wondering if JS’s job is to make sure the miniature price will not crash again?

I think many of the changes more or less is trying to make sure people spend money on the cash shop, because it become more and more difficult to get it in game, either because you can’t any more(key farm), or price get more expensive(miniature change, commander tag change).

I felt the same way for the first bazaar of the four winds, crafting material price seemed to skyrocket to a point of equilibrium of the supply box.

But it’s hard to say if it is actually because of the testers. Anet could take a snap shot of a price at certain time and use that as price of supply box.

It was a widely complain topic before. I think Anet more or less says they test things internally afterwards, some bloggers/website may get some early information as a promotion.

Honestly, many people known of the collection changes just from the Anet blog, it’s hard to say if it is really because of people getting early preview.

If you are gonig to comment on this thread then I suggest you actually take a look at the financial report. Look at the 5 page pdf summary that’s all you really need.

Highlights:
1. The figures include china’s launch, it is stated on the first slide.
2. Revenue is down from last quarter even with the launch included <—- VERY bad sign
3. Wildstar did not sell a lot of boxes, it has a much much smaller player base
4. China only sold 1 million boxes (see reddit link above), far less than the 3.5 million in the US/EU

There isn’t much to discuss, the game is in trouble, I suspect we will see something similar to SWTOR happening soon. A period of odd quiet followed by the leak of major restructuring at Anet, followed by an announcement that the game is taking a “new direction” (P2W mode activated, or expansion announced). This will take 3-4 months and will probably be announced around the next feature patch after S2 ends.

Are you sure what you said is correct?

Only thing I read from the first page is “Revenues and profits increased thanks to new launches such as Wildstar in US/EU and Guild Wars 2 in China.”

On the sales page it says “Sales by Games (excluding royalty)”.

I’m confused by that myself, I thought the sales number dont’ include China. Since it is probably listed under royalty. That being said I’m not sure, but you seemed to be sure.

We’ll never get any definitive info on ESO as Zenimax is a private company. Wildstar however will have published income figures to track.

Right, we dont’ even know how much players GW2 have. And wildstar probably wont’ release their subscriber number also, we can only backtrack from their financial report.

No one knows exactly how many players GW2 have. My estimate is between 200,000 to 1,200,000 unique logons monthly. Other people make similar joke about it too, because no one knows.

If you open a huge sample size, you get close to the medium. Those that opened 500 chest usually share similar results.

This seems to be correct. For “skins” dropping from 250+ opened, there is about a 10% variation from average, whereas for 50-100 opened, there’s nearly a 45% variance for the extremes of 50-100 chests.

Specifically, the published rates per 100 chests were:

  • 250+ chests: 2.8, 3.0, 3.1†, 3.3†
  • 50-100 opened: 1.5, 3.0, 3.2†, 3.9†

Results taken from other people’s published data over the last year or so. As in my earlier post, “ticket-equivalent” is 10 scraps or a single ticket found.
(† means that’s half the actual rate, since chests were opened during the double chance period.)(ordered from smallest to largest, not chronologically)

tl;dr is the same as before: your mileage will vary and you’re unlikely to see near-average results until you start tracking the results of 100s of chests.

@Laokoko:
I don’t have as much data as I’d like. Do you have any links still? I went scouring Reddit a month back and now have data from 8 posters, only two of whom opened more than 250. Thanks.

you can try searching youtube, many people post video about it.

the usually scrap rate is more closely 1/5. If you include there is a chance to get a whole tickets, 30 chest sounds about right.

Some of the results are from double events. That probably pushed to 1/3 like some people post here.

You also have a chance to get a whole ticket. That is quite huge since 1 ticket = 10 scraps.

Ok.. here is some break down from someone who comes from the financial sector.

A downgrade from 30 to 25 million is not slight downgrade.
It is a little under 5%

For people who don’t care it is not looking too much.
But if we keep in mind that the chinese launch created at least 6 million more accounts
this number is devastating.
I don’t know how many of them are really active but the fact that GW2 accounts almost doubled and create 5 million $ less is a horrible sign for the financial
aspect of the game and raises red flags.

I agree with most poster here who say the Gem Store items are incredible bad
and even if you want to spend money you can’t find something you like.
The game taking the opposite direction to what the fans want isn’t helping either.

I dont’ know how many accounts China have. I like to see official source of what you posted though. Many source are inaccurate because they count character created or they include trial account.

And I dont’ think china sales is even included in Q2.

The thing is a huge percentage of people playing swtor do pay a subscription fee.

If you seen the limitation swtor placed upon free players, you’ll understand. Swtor is actually called a freemium game, in which premium players get advantage for paying monthly(kind of like VIP of GW2 China).

The other 3 games OP listed a subscription games.
