What is the staff going to do about

Nope nobody gets banned from intentionally failing an event for the purpose of farming. I never knew anyone get banned from it.

However, if the issue escalates to the point that people are harassing those who tries to complete it, they make changes just like what happened to blix. They increased the spawn timer by a lot

People did get banned for doing it to farm linen in Iron Marches.

Wonder if they got banned for actually failing the event to farm, or for other behavior related to that, like botting or insulting people that were trying to finish the event

I’ve been the target of the second one when the popular farming spot was near the temple of lyssa, an event where you were supposed to destroy some walls and mobs spawned until the walls were destroyed, so people left some of the walls intact to keep mobs spawning and farming them… I had no idea of that, I was just wandering around, saw the event, and rushed in and destroyed the remaining walls. I was treated to some whispers after that that if I typed them here would end up just a wall of kittens.

From what I’ve read of the devs posting about such events, that kind of toxic athmosphere is what they’re trying to prevent when fixing those events.

Best Race for Necromancer

ok thanks guy but now i have sa second question

what mastery should i get trickster demon, skull or ghost ?? or any is fine

The only difference between them is the looks of the mask you get as starting head item, so pick whichever one you want.

Note that if you want all three you can later create another necromancer, select another mask, and as soon as the game start the mask is unlocked in your wardrobe, then you can just delete that character and create another one with the third mask to unlock it. After that it’s unlocked you can apply the look of any of them (or any other unlocked skin) using one transmutation charge, which you get from the gem story, doing map completions (guaranteed for completion of each of the main cities) and rarely for completing your daily achievements.

Step 1: purchase 50$ worth of gems (that would be 4000 gems)
Step 2: (assuming you have all character slots full) purchase a new character slot, 3400 gems left.
Step 3: Convert gems to gold, you now have around 370g on your character
Step 4: Use a scroll to get the new char to level 20 if you have one, 150g to level up all crafting profesions to 400 to level up following guides here: http://www.gw2crafts.net/total.html (you get money back selling stuff you make).
Step 5: EotM for the remaining levels (I got 10 levels in one evening there).
Step 6: Use the reamining 220g (+ whatever you make selling crafted stuff) + karma from EotM + whatever you can salvage from previous character to replace gear.

Not perfect, but better than nothing..

I also agree with this, and specially for this outfit.

I like outfits, I like the idea of being able to apply them to characters without using transmutation charges, and actually my charr thief usually uses the cook outfit (I love the butcher look to it)… but at least in the case of the cremonial plate, I love most of it, and would fit perfectly my sylvari guardian… but I hate the thing around the neck (looks to me like those cone things you put on dogs when they’re injured) and the puffy sleeves. If I were able to replace the chest area with another piece of armor, I’d buy it right away, as it is those two things are a deal breaker for me.

Anet please give us an honest answer

Other than paragraphs, let’s say you get the chance tomorrow to ask a dev a question… do you think asking them something like “do you really care about your players or are you just trying to test how much we can resist before we dump this game once and for all” would really foster change and discussion about the game, or put them on the defensive and/or just consider the post to be a troll or flame baiting and just ignore it completely? (I’ll bet the second one is the most likely reaction on their part)… which isn’t good, IMHO, because your feedback and your complains are 100% valid, but presented in a way that will most likely get the whole post ignored, if not outright deleted.

You say that you hope that post and more like those help change the way things go inside Anet, but TBH putting myself on their shoes, posts like that would just instead foster a “us Vs. them” mindset instead of a “let’s all work together” one.

Personally, I think it’s as good time as any to revive an old post by Josh Foreman:

1. It’s most helpful if you state your request or actionable item at the top. Then your reasons below. This helps us find and reference your post, pass it around for discussion, etc.

2. Don’t assume the reason that things are the way they are due to developer incompetence, laziness, apathy, stubbornness, greed, selfishness, lust or any of the other deadly sins. There are other possibilities beside developer personal defects. “Just” changing one thing usually has ramifications on other things that are hard to anticipate. An MMO is an incredibly complex web of interdependencies, and tweaking any individual part runs the risk of breaking many other parts. That’s why we don’t typically jump to instant ‘fixes’ (even though it’s tempting!) and why things that seem like obvious problems can take a lot longer to address than many would intuitively think they should. There is no MAKE IT WORK button that we refuse to push out of spite. Even if that were the case, it just doesn’t make sense to insult the party you are requesting something from. In what part of the real world does that ever work? No one wants to ‘slap you in the face’ or make the game less fun. We love you guys, and are thrilled that people play our game!

3. Don’t assume that we can just rearrange resources to work on your particular issue. Most of our teams are very specialized. It takes a long time to build the experience necessary to be a good productive member of the PvP, Story, Systems, or any other team. Just because we have X programmers working on bug fixes and Y working on Gameplay improvements, doesn’t mean we can arbitrarily move those numbers around. It’s just not that simple.

4. Please stop calling us liars when we fail to implement something we intended to months ago, but for some technical, balance, or other reason found it to be untenable. We can’t be very open about our plans if every word we say is taken as a contractual obligation. Imagine if every word you said to your friends were recorded and played back at the most inopportune time in order to make you look like a fool. You’d probably clam up pretty quickly. Making an MMO, especially one as experimental as GW2 requires… experimenting. Requires making plans, following through, finding dead ends, back-tracking and trying something else. Sometimes that means that we will state a clear goal, test it internally and find out it just won’t work. The idea that this means we don’t have a clear vision is wrong. There is a difference between a core vision for our design principles, and the implementation of specific systems. We are very clear about the mountain we want to scale, but whether we do it in 4×4, on foot, with a grappling hook, or a hot air balloon are all contingent on the terrain we discover as we progress.

5. You are not “all players”. Please stop saying “Players want X” just because you want X. The fact is that players want X, Y, Z, and the rest of the alphabet, and most of those desires conflict with each other. And I guarantee you, anything that the vast majority of the players want, we (as players of our own game) also want. If you don’t understand why something the vast majority of players and the devs want is not implemented, see the above points 2-4. I have a people-pleaser mentality, so this is one of the hardest pills for me to swallow as a developer. I want EVERYONE to be happy. Unfortunately, the rules of the real world make that impossible.

Advice for returning player that has nothing

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

Assuming account restoration is out of the question (possible considering that it has been a long time now), here are some ideas.

How is your karma?. You can get a full set of exotics from temple armor, temple of grenth gives berserker stats that’s usually the best one for warriors in PvE. You can get a full set for 252000 karma.

You can also buy rare weapons for karma in the cultural vendors, 63k a piece, the warden ones (sylvari, vendor is in the grove) use berserker stats so would complement the armor.

If not enough karma for those, go around orr and buy masterwork (green) armor from karma vendors, it’s a start and will help you start doing events and the like to get some extra money.

If karma is an issue, maybe ask to borrow some money from a friend, you can get a full set of rare armor for 4g, maybe 6 or 7 if you include a weapon and trinkets. That’s more than enough for most content in the game. As an alternative if you’re really desperate is to get white armor from vendors for about 20s, at least it’ll be a start to while you get back on your feet.

Do Edge of the Mists for money/karma/xp/badges of honor. Hit B, join edge of the mists and see if there’s a commander tag, if there’s one, try to get to it and follow the zerg doing events. You also can get armor from drops that way.

Do Edge of the Mists for some extra cash/karma/badges.

Am I the only one who does not know what DDOS means? :/

A DOS attack means Denial of Service attack, basically you send too much data to a server so you overwhelm it and make it crash or go offline.

A DDOS means Distributed Denial of Service, basically you get LOTS of computers to do a DOS at the same time at a specific target. Usually those computers are botnets, computer infected with viruses that runs in the background and wait for a command to start doing a DOS attack into the target, all without the owner’s knowledge (usually from things like those “app to find out who defriended you on facebook” and the like).

A DDOS is a brute force attack, basically overwhelm the server with too much data until it becomes unresponsive, it’s hard to prepare against because they use the same functionality that the server is supposed to provide in the first place, but all it does is to slow down or take servers online, no data is at risk.

Well, to be fair we have seen Anise create illusions that can properly talk and interact with other people twice, first time with the Rytlock illusion over the watchwork automaton that kept taunting Logan, second time Jenna’s illusion that started to give the speech before Scarlet’s attack.

However, the main difference in both cases was that she was near the illusion and able to focus on it, in the instance she was at a distance and behind a column so she couldn’t see the illusion, and later was focusing on whatever the suspicious woman was saying.

I see so many speculations on Queen Jennah being Anise’s illusion, yet Anise’s illusion of herself (in the first instance of Dragon’s Reach Pt. 2) could barely speak. The only thing she could say was ‘’Hmm?’’ all the time. Queen Jennah on the other hand can form normal sentences. That makes me believe Queen Jennah isn’t an illusion. :P

But maybe Anise can indeed make her illusions talk and interact normally with people and was doing the “hmm?” thing just annoy Canach..

Played MMO’s for 10 years now (FFXI, WoW, Rift, LotRo, SWOR, FFXIV) never dealt with DDoS attacks until GW2, So not sure what other MMO’s are doing for prevention, but they have at one point been larger player base, and all have/had subs.

WoW was attacked by a DDOS attack when I was playing (several years ago) in the european servers, I remember it was just impossible to log in for more than a minute back then.

In this year Blizzard was also hit by a massive DDOS attack that took down WoW, Diablo and Battle.net for more than a day IIRC, also I think the same month Steam was also hit and was also taken offline.

Heck, I even remember VISA being hit by a DDOS and taken offline, and that’s MUCH bigger than any MMO could hope to be.

There’s not really much any company can do to prevent a DDOS, most of what can be done is reactively, trying to reroute traffic, block unwanted traffic (made harder because if a botnet is used, traffic can come from all over the internet) and try to get servers back online as quick as they could.

Should I remake a class I have?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

Level 38 isn’t much of a deal IMHO, I’d definitively remake it instead of using a total makeover kit, but it’s up to you. Some things to consider:

Total makeover kits are 350 gems, so it would be either $4.3 (note that you can’t buy less than $10 of gems) or roughly 45g. You get one for free every 5000 achievement points.

Note that you won’t be able to change race with total makeover kits, so if you have a human and want a norn, it won’t be an option, but you can make a bigger human.

Leveling a new character to level 38 is relatively easy, even more if you have other characters that are over a year old since you get a scroll to level up a character to level 20 on their birthday pack.

Total makeover kits will give you access to extra hairstyles, faces and colors not available to newly made characters. Check them here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Total_Makeover_Kit
http://dulfy.net/2014/07/15/gw2-entanglement-new-hairstyles-in-makeover-kit/
http://dulfy.net/2014/03/18/gw2-new-hairstyles-in-total-makover-kits-and-self-style-hair-kits/

However, if your character was created before april 15th, you get granparented to the old traits system, if you create a new one will get the new one. Basically, that means that in the old system all traits are unlocked and you’re gree to pick them up the moment you get trait points. With the new system major traits need to be unlocked first. Unlocking a trait can mean anywhere from just doing a single event/boss to getting your personal story to an advanced level, do a zone completion or a specific dungeon, varies depending on which trait (you can also unlock them with money, but that can become expensive fast).

If you delete and create a new character any souldbound item your character has will be lost forever, though at level 38 chances are you don’t have anything that important yet. Also every item on the character’s inventory will also be lost when deleting it, and in most cases when it happens support will not replace any lost items that way, so before deleting be sure to go trough all your bags, salvage every non heart piece of gear you have, deposit all collectables and put anything you don’t want to lose in the bank before deleting.

Are these lizard guys upset with anet over something? Or are they just randomly targeting random targets, ya know, randomly? And are they the same ones that did this a few weeks ago?

They’re targetting big targets seemingly randomly, and NCSoft is currently a big target. That way they get more attention, which is basically what they’re after.

Only way to stop it is to backtrace it and send someone with a hammer to his house.

DDOS’s are usually done by botnets formed by zombie computers infected with a trojan without their owners knowledge that controls them in the background. If you do a backtrace chances are you’ll only find thousands of different individual computers whose owners at some point clicked on the wrong link promising a funny facebook video or app to track who defriended them.

The entrance to the new area (dry top) is on the southwest of brisban wildlands.

To see the markers for the living story you now need to go into the hero panel, the story panel, and activate the apropiate living story chapter. One thing to note, if you didn’t log in at anytime when a specific living story chapter was live, it’ll be locked and you’ll have to pay 200 gems to unlock it if you want to play it, but as far as I know it shouldn’t prevent you from going to the new zones in the open world or do any of the events, but unless you unlock them you won’t be able to do the new backpiece as the materials you need are given as LS rewards.

The way it works now is that if you log in anytime when a LS is live, even if you log out right afterwards, it’s unlocked forever and you can do it anytime you want.

Centaurs are clan based and is not structured like the 5 races that they can call upon everyone for help, some centaurs will maybe help some day, who knows.

But I am surprised about the Tengu, specially since they seem to be a very organized race (that blocked itself from the rest of the world though, if you notice all the big gates being guarded) that could potentially be affected by the dragon. And since they’ve been “observing us”, i dont understand why they would not reach out.

EDIT: maybe they are just not concerned of the threat (like the other 5 races), but our accomplishments mean very little to them, so we dont have the influence to make them attend.

Tengu are isolationists, you can see it when Scarlett attacked and they not only locked themselves inside the domain of the winds, they actively attacked anyone getting too close to the gate, regardless of whether it was scarlett’s forces or not… and to be honest, can you blame them, considering that humans from Lions Arch used to hunt them for their feathers? (ahem http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_feather_farming ). There’s even a tengu merchant in Lion’s Arch that isn’t allowed in either, his parents migrated from Cantha before he was born and now he’s seen as an outsider because he can’t speak their language.

No matter how much trouble there is inside chances are they won’t reach out for help unless they’re absolutely desperate… maybe a massive vines attack might do the trick?..

Not at home so checking the way I’d do it by looking at the galleries..

Shoulders, chest, legs and boots I’d go Pit Fighter:

http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?color=10&sex=0&race=4&w=3&skinID=piratehi&lang=en

You can get them off the TP, it’s the set you get as exotic random drops at level 80.

Gloves, I’d go the barbaric set:

http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?color=10&sex=0&race=4&w=3&skinID=blacknighti&lang=en

The helm is trickier, closest I can think of right now would be the temple karma helmet but with the skull section dyed a very dark color:

http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/index.php?lang=en&skinID=orri&sex=0&race=4&w=3&color=7

However, there was a new armor set datamined that might be coming to the game soonish (probably to the gem store) that has a helmet that IMHO looks closer to what you’re looking for:

http://imgur.com/3R09ZRv

NOTE: for some reason sometimes links to specific sets in argos’s website doesn’t work, try copying and pasting the links to the URL bar.

Personally I’d just make it available full time now with the completed worlds, just add a line of dialog to Moto saying that he though that with all the problem with mordremoth and vines and such, people could use with a little distraction so he decided to open it again while he worked on further levels.

Wouldn’t be unrealistic in game for something purely entertaining related to pop up in rata sum while mordremoth is attacking, here in Venezuela there were huge mudslides in 1999 that almost wiped a very populated city and several towns ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vargas_tragedy ), several weeks after it happened some amusement parks, movie theaters and the like offered free entry for a few days on the places where refugees were temporarely relocated. There could even be an extra line of dialog added saying that Moto is donating part of the proceeds to the war effort or something.

I like the outfit, I actually got gems to buy it when it was released after the first leaked pics… but that neck thing and the puffy sleeve are deal breakers for me…. so I guess I’ll just save the gems for some other day.

Destroy them. If you want them later, you can repeat the story on the same character (or other characters).

Do you get them again if you destroy them?

I was saving them in the bank because I might do it in the future if foxfire clusters go down in price, just so I have something to do with all that excess bloodstone dust, but if I can get it back I’d rather have the bank space.

Outfits

Personally was looking forward to this one for my guardian, was buying gems for a while for when it was actually released. The puffy sleeves and that thing around the neck (looks to me like those cones they put on dogs to prevent them from scratching themselves) are deal breakers for me… if I could use the legs, pauldrons, boots and helmet with my current chest armor (or another one) it would have been a sure purchase for me… as it is, don’t think so.

And note that I’m not against outfits, one of my characters (Charr thief) uses the cook outfit as his regular look, and in that case I do understand why it’s an outfit and not armor, with several pieces mixing with each other… don’t really see why this was released as an outfit and not armor set, you can easily see where each piece starts and ends.

1) Do map completion (get all points of interest, vistas, skill challenges and hearts in a zone). Starter cities give them and are quick to complete if you want some in a hurry, though you may want to save them until level 80 – you go through gear quickly while levelling.

2) You can always buy gems with IG gold if you don’t want to spend cash.

1. Thanks, I was just curious where I was to get them from. Thanks for your tips.

2. That’s what I meant, I’m able to buy Gems with the Gold I’ve gotten ingame? Are there any other ways to obtain Gems? I will probably buy some Gems eventually, But I’m curious

Yes, you can buy gems with gold, go to the TP window and them exchange tab. Currently the price is something like 13g for 100 gems, or you can sell 100 gems for like 9g or so. Prices fluctuate depending on offer and demand, you can view the rates here:

http://www.gw2spidy.com/

Note that they aren’t free gems, every gem sold there means that it was bought by someone and then exchanged it for gold.

Other ways to obtain them is by purchasing them (of course) either directly or by buying a gem card, and also you get 400 gems for every 5000 achievement points you gain.

That is one of my pet peeves in the game, actually.

Personally I’d make a system so that, if damage is what measures participation, then if you do a support role, attribute part of their damage to you. For example, if you res someone, half of the damage they do for the next 10 or 15 seconds (guesstimating the average time it would take for someone to run from nearest waypoint) is attributed to you. If you heal someone, a percentage of their damage equal to the percentage of their max HP you healed is attributed to you and so on.

Of course, I don’t know how good or bad would work in practice, or whether it would even be possible considering the strain it would add to the server.

As long as it doesn’t suddenly start singing about being a mean green mother from outer maguma, we’re safe..

BTW, since we’re talking about the movie, here’s the original ending. In the original version, when Seymour pulls Audrey out of the plant, she’s badly injured and dies, so Seymour goes to fight Audrey II, but after it brings the ceiling down on him, grabs it out of the rubble and eats Seymour (like in the 1960 version), spitting out his glasses, then this happen:

That took 5 million dollars to make… but on test screenings people loved the movie until the main characters died, then hated it, so they had to change the ending to a happy one before release..

Why are all the Backpieces SO EXPENSIVE?

in Living World

Posted by: locoman.1974

Unique back pieces are meant to be expensive and hard to make, even more an ascended one, and yet even more one that has an unique functionality (eating bloodstone dust). Don’t really see any need to fix there.

There are very cheap back pieces out there, and getting to 400 in any crafting profession is actually rather easy once you have the materials and relatively not too expensive if you don’t (actually, artificing, the one you need for the clay pot, is really one of the cheaper to level up, takes about 15g if you purchase all materials following the guides at http://www.gw2crafts.net/ ).

I do recall him saying “I now have my target” or something along those lines

At least according to the wiki, he didn’t (would have to replay it):

Countess Anise: Very well, Canach. Playtime is over and you’ve passed your audition. You’re to go with them.
Canach: Why?
Countess Anise: I want you to learn what you can about the Pact’s plans. Follow them to their staging area.
Countess Anise: I need someone there I know can get the job done, and I believe you may be that someone.
Canach: I shall prove you correct. Until we meet again

Closest is this bit before the summit began:

Canach: When will you tell me why you brought me here?
Countess Anise: I’m trying to decide if I can trust you out in the field. I mean, after that nasty business on Southsun. Tsk.
Canach: Regardless of what you may believe, I was trying to free those refugees from the Consortium’s exploitation.
Canach: I went about it…poorly. Criminally. And I answered for my crimes.
Countess Anise: Your intentions in that affair, whether noble or not, aren’t what concern me. It’s your failure to evade capture.
Canach: I beg your pardon?
Countess Anise: Noble intentions don’t interest me. What I need is a sharp instrument. A knife that can be employed before anyone realizes it’s struck.
Canach: Show me where to cut, Countess, and I will be your blade.

And pasting this one just because I found it hilarious..

Canach: Do you treat everyone you encounter like children?
Countess Anise: (laugh) You are a delicate flower, aren’t you? So easily bruised…
Canach: I have a thick skin. I also learn from my missteps. For example, you fooled me once with your illusions, so now I wonder if you’re truly as young as–
Countess Anise: Do not finish that sentence. Not here, not ever.
Canach: At least, a substantial response.

One thing about Jenna, we do know she’s a powerful mesmer, but we never see her actually fight. Personally I think she’s more skilled in the parts of mesmer magic that deal with reading and influencing people and protection. The biggest feat we’ve known her to do was when she created the illusion of Kralkatorrik in the sky, paralized several human and charr around ebonhawke and created illusions of them being inside crystals to fool the minions attacking, but seems to have taken her quite a bit of time to set it up (personally I think it was because she had to extract whatever kralkatorrik looked like from the minds of the minions, since at that point in the story she would have no way to know how it looked like).

Actually I see her and Anise kinda like being a sort of ying and yang… both being mesmers but Jenna being adept more at the protection side, while Anise being more agresive.

Agree with what everyone said here. Only buy the cultural armor if you like it for its looks to unlock them, but be aware that in a few levels you’ll probably replace it anyway, and I recommend saving your transmutation charges for when you’re 80, as a new char you probably don’t have many (if any) yet. You’re much better off just buying green gear off the TP while you level up, I usually do it every 10 levels when leveling, and check every heart to see if there’s something good meanwhile.

One bit of advice, at that level (or a little bit above) start playing in harathi hinterlands, there’s one heart north of it (Forward Scout Greta) where at level 43 you’ll be able to buy and equip the first 3 stat weapons in the game, and most likely the best ones for quite several more levels.

so perhaps this will date me, and perhaps it’s been said before and i didn’t see it. but..
there is a movie from 1986 called little shop of horrors. in that movie, a plant is grown by feeding it human blood. once it gets bigger, it eats humans. it’s name was audrey…

this new back piece is grown and turns into maudrey.. who needs bloodstone dust to survive..

As a random trivia, the 1986 movie was the movie version of a 1982 broadway musical, which was based on a low budget 1960 horror movie also called “Little Shop of Horros”…

I don’t remember who was it first, I just started killing mordrem as they appeared. By the time I realized I had to save the leaders, only knut and phlunt were left, I saved knut and then phlunt.

When I replay it, I’ll save Jenna first, I know she’s a great mesmer and capable of defending herself, but still I’d consider her to be in greater danger than Knut or Smodur. Second and Third would be either of those, I know Smodur could handle himself in a fight, and Knut was probably even enjoying it.

In every ocasion I do it, though, I’ll leave Phlunt for last, and if I had my way, before saving him I’d casually stand next to him, and if he says “save me”, I’d reply “Not so fast, my brainy friend. In light of this new development, I have decided to add further stipulations to the deal.”…

What timer are you using?. Some timers became obsolete when the megaserver system was rolled out. I’d recommend using this site: http://gw2timer.com/ click on the waypoint icon around the map for the event you want to go to, and it’ll copy the waypoint, you can paste in chat or whisper it to yourself so you can click on it directly in game if you don’t know where to go.

The reason I think you might be using an outdated app is because in my experience (and anyone I’ve talked to) is that world bosses tend to be overpopulated now, I’ve never seen one empty (except for tequatl and triple wurm if they’re not organized).
