Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Yes, I rather have the same on several characters, and as everyone else, than being unlucky and ending up with a completely worthless one.
It is funny how people always complain about RNG in everything and when they go ahead and remove RNG they complain about that as well.
People are simply never happy.
Except people liked the surprise of GW1 presents. It wasn’t RNG in the same way people talk about the RNG cash shop boxes or RNG boxes being the only way to obtain weapon skins for events.
This is a birthday present for turning 1 year old in-game. It should be a surprise. And no, that doesn’t make it an “RNG Box”.
Actually there were quite a few people that really didn’t like the RNG in the GW1 boxes.
Most people got useless white minis that sold for about 1 platinum at most while the lucky ones got awesome one that sold for 100 ectos or something like that.
Not really a good system.
And had they not told us about it people would have whine about ArenaNet putting stupid RNG boxes everywhere.
I am still waiting for mine to start shouting Exterminate! Exterminate! when it salvages stuff…
No culling has been around for WvW for ages. However, T1 servers will get increasingly laggier, as their PvE side will now increase the load on the already exhausted hardware.
That is however assuming that WvW runs on the same server cluster as PvE, which is quite unlikely (especially since they shut down at different times during patching and such).
PvE lag did not increase with the removal of culling in WvW after all.
so if i created a character on launch then deleted the following day :/ i won t get the cool mini Q___Q?
Not until your character turns 1 year no.
Why are people assuming that they will tell us every single thing that will happen in a preview a week before the actual patch?
Based on information found in the dat-files they haven’t even told us half of what will happen.
Seriously. It’s 2013.
Though, to be fair, they started working on GW2 in 2007.
Based on an engine from 2004ish.
Based on the hints the data-miners on reddit have posted one can assume that something big and surprising is going to happen, yes.
“The cities will be more vibrant and bustling than ever”. too bad I won’t be able to witness that because the character models wont load before I leave lions arch
You do know that the fact that they don’t load IS culling, right?
Q: “Birthday Gifts!
As characters created right at the launch of Guild Wars 2 hit their first birthdays, it’s time to introduce our first Birthday Gift! Characters that are one year old will receive a Mini Queen Jennah, a 24-hour Birthday Booster, and a Scroll of Experience.” – so if my account was hacked, my character deleted, does it meam me (or somebody else) get no gift? Just because you didn’t help hacked people and instead of help you just sat and did nothing.
You will get your birthday present when you character turns 1. Simple as that.
Would of been nice if the birthday present worked like it did in GW1, but can’t complain about free stuff I guess..
Hm?
In what way does it not work like it did in GW1?
I suppose you mean the fact that you could either get lucky and get a 100 ecto mini or be unlucky and get a 1 p one? Because that is more or less the only difference.
Looks good.
And I am rather sure there will be more stuff than have been posted on that page.
It would be quite silly to spoil any big surprises one week before the update hits after all.
Our characters are however not evil, and the only ones with actual access to something like this would be the Inquest, and they are very much evil.
You literally just provided my own counter-argument. Just because it works well for your server doesn’t mean it works well for everyone else. Infact, it isn’t working well for MOST players.
It isn’t?
Based on http://mos.millenium.org/ most of the current match-ups are actually quite close, while back with the old system there could be weeks or even months where people faced servers that they always lost with 50k points against every single week.
Fun fact. All the pve content (the living stories) that are currently out have never experienced the full 8 weeks of development time. Meaning the Queens Jullibee area was done in under 8 weeks. The map for that is quite big. Not to mention the zepher sky city thing. That was done in under 8 weeks as well. Look at it. All those leaps, teleports, and dashes. Yet it was for the most part, a very solid content update with very little bugs.
Do you actually have any kind of proof about this or are you only assuming stuff?
It is highly likely that the maps have been worked on for MONTHS before release.
It is also quite unfair to compare something that is not competitive and therefore don’t need exact balance to something that is based around PvP.
You don’t have to cater the mobs to the upscaled players, you can cater the upscaled players to the mobs.
Increase the stats on upscaled players.
Having said that, I ran my level 5 mesmer in there. You just need to stay out of the fields while tagging as much as possible. I run full power/precision stats just to make sure I can tag things – no point using vitality/toughness because you’ll die in 1 or 2 shots with or without the toughness/vitality stats.
But then why would anyone bother leveling and gearing up their character? And even if you increase the stats the upscaled guy will still lack traits and skills, which would mean he would always be weaker than a true lvl 80.
As for the second part you are talking about a completely different thing. You are talking about the mob farming down below. The topic is about the solo-Gauntlet in the small arenas overhead.
Thats just the thing though: More or less everything posted in his (or other peoples videos) that is actually fact rather than speculations ARE available in the game.
But the game won’t throw it in your face, you have to actually look for it. Just like in the real world.
I’m not convinced that killing the Elder Dragons would cause magic to go dramatically awry in Tyria.
Reason being… we killed one. That means that approximately 1/6 of the Elder Dragons are now dead. (Or 1/5, or 1/7, etc. depending on which theory a person subscribes to.) There has been no indication in-game of any significant magical upsurge, and if the Elder Dragons are really crucial buffers, I would expect that removing a buffer of that magnitude should have had an effect that was at least slightly noticeable over the course of almost a full year.
And yet during Arah Explorable we see another dragon awakening/being born, and I am assuming that it takes place quite soon after the death of Zhaitan, so technically for most of the time there isn’t really one less dragon.
So basically adding something very close to (or even crossing) the border of Pay to Win?
If you don’t know what you’re talking about it’s better to not say anything. “Server population says High or Full”? Are you kidding me? that’s not a metric at all. I’m talking about server traffic and not just accounts with characters on the server…
Go look at some actual charts and stop making a fool of yourself.
Oh, I was under the impression that said charts did not exist to the public. So please feel free to link them so that I might educate myself.
And the population shown on the server-screen is actually active accounts, not just accounts that have logged into the server once, which is also the reason why the population can change during the course of a day.
Right, you must’ve forgot the part where GW2 is considered unsuccessful by the industry. Meanwhile MMOs that cater to hardcore are raking in money.
…
Ah, nothing to see here people.
Where did you get these numbers? Or did you simply make them up in order to make your post look “more important”?
GW2 was announce and advertised as a casual-friendly game. People that bought it expecting it to be catered to them are just silly. The vast majority of gamers are casual, and all in all it is quite likely that they will make way more money catering to the majority rather than a tiny minority.
Well, I would agree that the Elder Dragons see what they are doing to the land as purifying it rather than corrupting it. Various dialogues, specifically from the Sovereign Eye of Zhaitan, point to this. I guess the question stands as what is corrupted and what is not. From the standpoint of the players though, hands down, the complete and total stealing of the will and forcing into servitude counts as corruption and evil.
That is however not the corruption used by all of the Elder Dragons.
Technically as far as we know the only Elder Dragon that actually uses that kind of corruption is Kralkatorrik.
(Or well, Zhaitan in some cases I suppose)
And yet it IS working, at least for some servers.
We have had way better match-ups most of the time since the new system was added for one.
Just because it doesn’t work well for your server doesn’t mean it don’t work well overall.
the characters of Tyria do use magic though; and have used it for centuries with it building up still. a we use it, more replaces it, it seems.
That would however only work if we assume that we actually consume magic when using it, which might not be the case.
So as long as there is an influx of magic there will basically just increase more and more.
It is not a physical item. It just unlocks it.
History here teaches that things that seemed like a bad idea actually turned out to be bad ideas, so maybe it would be better to think them through before implementing them rather than mess everything up so you have to fix it later.
Oh?
I am quite sure people shouted about removing quests, holy trinity and mob-tagging was bad ideas as well and yet I would say it was rather good ideas now that we have actually seen them.
People on these forums always assume everything that will be changed is bad, which is quite silly. Based on what Devon have said it is already so far along in development that it most likely won’t see any big (if any) changes before going live anyway. So why not wait and see how it turns out? Why assume ArenaNet does not know what they are doing?
Let’s wait and see until they have actually implemented the change before we shout about it being a bad idea, shall we?
Orrr wait for it…. actually split your zerg up and have defenders/attackers. ./legasp!!
If you don’t wanna defend a point you don’t deserve to keep it. Don’t fall back on waypoints to do it for you.Hell if it was up to me I wouldn’t even put swords on the map. I’d just have a signal flare go automatically up that if no one saw or was paying attention to…too bad. Pay attention to your territory.
And yet against 10+ Omegas it doesn’t matter how many people you have defending, since they will just melt through the gates in seconds. Having a waypoint at least gives you somewhat of a chance to hold them of at least a bit.
Without WP you simply have to have your whole zerg standing around (in several keeps at once (which would be impossible)) at all times.
And another note; it’s around for two weeks. If you can’t hit 80 in two weeks, there is a problem. My advice is quit trying to do it while you’re level whatever and go level ya turkey.
Actually it will be around for much longer than that.
The current living story won’t leave until September 2nd.
Indeed, but I would say the main reason for that is simply because the Living Story is not about us, we just happen to be there while the real “stars” do their stuff more or less.
TheDaiBish.9735, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard balance wise. Can you imagine something being immune to bleeds? That would be honestly gamebreaking.
Why?
Not everyone is going for condition damage and there is extremely few skills that ONLY applies condition and no other source of damage.
They might. The main issue is that if they give good enough rewards lvl 80 players will simply swarm them and take some of the challenge away due to higher overall stats.
Wait what, so new minor WvW content and changes takes 3-6 months to make and balance while there is PvE patch every 2 weeks with new maps, recepies, features, items, npcs and 100 other things. Im not really into dev hating but just how stupid do you think we are? Atleast be honest and say you dont create content for WvW because you dont get revenues from this.
But it IS much harder to make and balance content that has to do with PvP actions, since if something is imbalanced or exploitable it would hurt the game and player way more than if something like that turns up in PvE.
Most of the time you can NOT avoid fights as you are forced to move in between mobs that aggro. The point is not to avoid danger then point is that this is an annoying mechanic that does nothing but frustrates.
There are very few zones in the game that forces you to run between mobs in order to get somewhere though. Most zones have the option to run around them and so on.
I would say it is fully possible to have challenging fights out in the open world. There are already several that already exists (the Karka Queen, Temple of Grenth, Temple of Balthazar and such).
Avoid being hit if you are not planning to fight.
Problem solved.
Because WvW Ranks are not achievements, they are level ups, more like levels in PvE and you don’t get achievement points for those either.
So basically making the game less open world and more instanced?
I don’t think many people would agree with that.
1. One day
2. Maybe
3. Soon
4. One day
5. Not sure, maybe
6. Soon
7. MaybeVery informative. Thank you sir.
So you would rather have them say outright when something will be released and then whine when something comes up that makes a release of it impossible?
As Devon himself have said he don’t give dates because dates are not set.
It is funny how people demand the devs tell us stuff, even if it is only: “We are working on it” and when they do people complain about them not telling us exactly what they are doing.
And it would most likely be people complaining about them doing the wrong things if they told us exactly what they were doing as well.
In theory you are correct about new players, but in practise new players won’t be able to complete the challenges anyway and getting tickets isn’t that hard.
It is fully possible to complete at least some fight in the Gauntlet while being upscaled.
^ The other capital cities don’t have access to the Mists in the same way as LA is, therefore it wouldn’t make much sense to give them all portals to the Mists (and then again, why even use portals when you can simply press B and teleport from anywhere?)
Why waste money on services that should be free?
They are free.
You simply need to move a bit if you don’t pay for the convenience of having them close together.
Aye, I don’t really think they are all that stressed since each update have around 4 months of dev time behind it.
If this happened (and was intended) it would be in the patch notes, which it is not. So one can assume that it is simply a false rumor.
The only way to abuse this is if Anet forgot to make new characters ineligible.
It was simply abused by creating new characters, transferring the tickets, deleting the character and repeat as far as I understand it.
And making it impossible for new characters to get them wouldn’t really work either, since that would punish new players.
They changed it because people abused the ones you got in the mail on each character, as usual.
Because if someone is rushing with 10-15 Golems where half of them are Omegas it is impossible to defend something, no matter how much you scout or how well prepared you are. Those are the kinds of Golem rushes people have a problem with, since they are impossible to defend against.
On the other hand the cute little 5 golem rush GH tried against UWs Hills yesterday was quite fun both since we managed to respond and kill you and both because they were few enough to actually have a chance defending against.
Not against the rules, but you also won’t get any help if you get scammed.
