What ppl forget about hybrid guard
Burning with poison and 3 stacks of bleed are better then the necro conditions
At best they will be 7 stacks of bleeding poison and fear or burning if traited
Also the same for condi engi
The main difference is the other two can proc more undamagable conditions which works as cover
So the guard have the abilities to proc the burning constantly and every weapon swap while doing good direct dmg which the other engi and necro can’t while they can offer nice cc time to time
So you can’t ask for more conditions as you make the guard op and better if his conditions will be hard to cleanse

The only thing that makes burning better on guardian is Amplified Wrath. Other than that engineer completely outclasses guardian when it comes to burning builds.

why? engi proc burning slower than guard which does less dmg than guard

i have tried carrion with gs and sc torch and play like power shatter as my armor is very low

so far my main problem is to burst fast enough to pressure my enemy to stop attacking me (thieves) but it isnt like the power shatter
if i am not being targeted then its fine to work with carrion but again i can contest a point in 1v1 while with rabid its more doable. and if i use hit and run tactic like power shatter then my dmg output is too low compre to a power shatter

i aim for dishing out loads of conditions on a point hitting 3 enemies so my dps can be higher and even pressure for utilities used by my enemies or heal skill thus givving my team advantage

rampeger my conditions dmg is too low

maybe its me but i like most the rabid for the mesmer

mtd so far getting many like in wvw roam style. but in tpvp not at all. the problem is that you need certain team composition around you as you cant play like power shatter
i manage to see that if we played against power team enemy with ele and guardian we won as my conditions after few seconds eat them while the block heal all the direct dmg we did.
while if we played agasint more sustain team with engi ele guard thief and power mesmer we had more problem (we also were 4 and 1 random with no ts) as the thief and mesmer target me first with no help from my team

but i manage all in all to shutdown the LB ranger/ engi/ thief/ bunker guard and did nice even in 1v2 to but my team few 30 seconds while the power shatter just wouldnt tried that

i am still trying different approuch to the playstyle and role and would love to hear other who play it aswel

not true its weaker 1v1 and only better in VERY FEW 2v2s (so worse overall) and way worse in 3v3

Maybe it’s you as for me it works wonder and faster in some cases where the med zerk will has problems like dd ele bunker guard engi etc…

The idea is to take advantage of Amplified Wrath (which is pretty unbalanced IMO) and the carrion amulet to reach ~800 dmg/sec burn ticks, and then start stacking power. The setup works by getting in as many hits as quickly as possible to maximize the output of VoJ’s passive. Enemies will either assume you’re zerker and not pay attention to the burning, or they’ll see the 800 damage burn ticks and be so focused on condi clear that they’ll fail to realize that you’re killing them with direct damage from your 2k power attacks. Doom sigil acts as kind of the nail in the coffin by countering sustain (with a little added DPS as a bonus).

So many people are focused on the “condi guardian” hype train that they’re missing the point entirely. Stacking bleeds and going full condition damage isn’t going to be as effective because none of the guardian’s skills and traits complement conditions other than burning in any way. You’re much better off combining the burning potential with direct damage output to apply more pressure on the enemy in less time.

i would take 1 geomancy sigil to bring some 3 stack bleeding to the fight

Was never much of a fan of Mirror of Anguish. I absolutely love Chaotic Dampening, as getting Chaos Storm/Armor down to 28s is pretty significant increase in survivability. Getting 6s Phase Retreat is also a big plus.

also true but i like when my nightmare rune fear them and then when they try to cc me they get it also so they need to use 2 stun break which means probably 2 utilities skills which give me the advantage

can hold point (home) preety good if they send 1 player.
can do good aoe pressure on mid even with dd ele around as it push him to stay on water and not doing dmg

and if i think i meet condi spec i use mantra for cleanse but as the power shatter dont need it i rarely need it too as the meta comp doesnt use condi spec much

after much time watching the esl team fight and looking at the mesmer and thieves job i have noticed few things
1. to be good you have to be good at picking your fight. you hardly see a thief or mesmer going against the engi or guardian or warrior.
2. the shatter mesmer usually hit and run doing maybe 1-2 spike and disengage the fight or looking other place to be . thus naking its dps over time very low

with my condi mesmer mtd (almost similar to the build above 0,4,4,0,6) i have no problem against the dd ele or engi and my dmg with a group is a nice 1k aoe dps .
the thief have much more problem to take me down.
and after playing a condi or power necro a bit i feel it must has a babysiting a lot to fully do all his dmg when as mesmer i hardly need babysitting from my group

the current meta dont really take pure condi spec. you may see some condi necro time to time but the most condi spec you will see is cele engi

1. does it make the meta comp to be more vulnerable to conditions atm?
2. even the the cleanse available in group fight doesnt it make the enemy team to use all their cleanse/ utilities earlier in the fight and put them on vulnerable spot?
3. is there any room for condi spec ?
4. can mesmer feel this spot?
5. my mtd shatter Mesmer so far is great against the engi and can push hard the ele . does it gives any advantage to my team?

i tried 3 builds and tested them against the meta comp
shatter Mesmer feels to me as more like a thief role . go in burst and go out and hide or run away. can do huge short aoe dmg and boon ripping but against the meta comp need to be very good player as the boons reapply and the dmg negated fast. so the only left is to find 2v1 3v2 and help and go out again.

CI mesmer – i can say if i fight against them i hate them all . against good player 1v1 its hard but its not design for 1v1 rather as group support with interrupt cc and some nice pressure . but again hambow warrior can fill this role with its hammer or necro with fear or engi with turrets kd. so… its more suitable with the current meta comp but again very hard to play it well

i like more the ci as it reminds me gw1 more .

(atm i like mtd the most to matter what ppl say about it)

Medi guard is stronk! But there’s some professions that slap them about like nobody’s business. Engineers, mesmers, rangers. Yes, you can beat them but good luck beating one who knows what he’s doing. You’ll be chasing them forever most of the time.

So what does it have? It relies less on stacking might and nuking fast as other builds do and instead relies on keeping up burning to increase damage done. It’ll deal less damage on burst but adds a lovely 850 dmg per second in the form of burning. Goodbye annoying evasive classes and hello mesmer corpse!

Best of all is that this burning is AoE, have some condis? Pull some ‘friends’ in with binding blade, pop purging flames, use leap or WW and wham, tons of damage!

It’s also durable. Yes, it’s less bursty and no, you won’t be nuking somebody down with this all too fast but as far as being all-round great in teamfights goes, this build has worked very well for me.

I think that, in general, this build is better than what most people run these days.

ceimash has started this condi guard and others like me post several build after the patch with the new 33% burning dmg with carrion hybrid

basic builds as u see are 6,2,6,0,0 or 6,0,6,0,2 carrion and flame runes or other condi runes

you will see some call it the hybrid hype and i also post it for trial in the metabattle web page

this build kill ele more easily than the medzerk as both base on constant dmg and not burst . and also engi even with kd are easier with scepter attacks from range
and for me this build does more good aoe dmg in pvp than 1 burst trick with med zerk meta build (if so i would go a thief or mesmer)

I’ve not read anything on this thread instead of the OP, so probably these things were said, but jsut in case.
Condi mesmer in PvP is not good simply (WvW it works for roaming)
If you want to play PvP shatter or lockdown it is.
If you really want a condi class, the most similar classes to mesmer would be engineer and necro. Engi is more of a hybrid meta (you can play triple kit condi though) atm but necro terrormancer is pure condi in the current meta and it’s a ton of fun in a good team but absolute dread in a bad team.

i have tried yesterday the terror necro in hot join and lockdown mesmer just kill me with ease . love the lockdown . also my team was so bad which left me alone always with no support…

if you want to be “that guy” try running either 2/0/6/0/6 as hybrid shatter mesmer or 0/0/6/2/6 as full condition shatter. Both work amazingly well as a solo roaming build with scepter/torch staff, and require very little skill to play. At the end of the day though, its cheese in its ultimate form. -Priest of Lyssa

Actually, both of those builds are pretty awful. Running shatter builds without DE is a great way to get stomped by anyone competent.

Agreed, you need the extra clones.

In my experience with PvP (not WvW), the problem with condi mesmer is the burst. In a 1v1 fight, you may win. However, this can take upwards of 40-50 seconds. The condis continue to stack on, but there is nothing to close the gap. By the time you have your opponent downed, they’ll have another teammate on you for the 2v1.

The great part about power shatter is the heavy burst and disengage. You can provide that extra damage to down an opponent and move on. You can roam well. You can’t do this with a condi build.

It’s a fun build to play, but you won’t see competitive teams running it because it doesn’t have synergy with other classes (for the reasons mentioned above).

if it takes you 50 sec to down in 1v1 dont engage . like thief hardly engage engi in 1v1 rather going to help in 4v3
the same with condi the aoe pressure is huge if you know how to do it as you can do better aoe dmg than any other condi class or build.
but yes necro give fear to the table, engi gives cc with crates etc.. while mesmer bring some daze and condi pressure

against engi the most valuable weapon is my scepter
range weapon which allow me to hide time to time against those turrets and proc some dmg on the engi
when i see him panic or use heal then i burst with gs combo

My build utilises a very high Hit Point pool (26K fully buffed) that I use to absorb condition damage and mitigate high burst. The beauty of the build is that it also crits often (50%) and hits for 6-9K on a special move (1-5) and white damage is in the 2K range per swing. So for condi thieves its a matter of timing the stealth. Often, they dont even get a chance to use their build because they are dead before they know what just happened (see my latest vid in the Jinpaa Reloaded series for examples – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaazlAbmJMM

Otherwise its as a few have said here – its timing to block those hits and leave them vulnerable – the tricky part is making those opportunities count which is hard with no burst or heavy conditions.

yes its hard setup to fight against but doable

becareful from confusion they can stack 5 (8 with perplexity) so smite condition fast to cleanse it
the 5 bleed stacks will do 500 dps and preety much avoidable
but if they manage to stack 5 bleeding , 2-4 torment, 5-8 confusion, poison then you are in trouble and need to use cop
so dont let them get to it

if they steal from you dodge away, use aegis , shelter when they burst with sneak attack
and pressure them hard all the time so they will have to go in SR then back away far enough . if you pressure them they will focused on AA and not offense with torment etc… so the only dmg will be 3-5 stacks of bleeding poison and sometimes 2 stack of torment which means 800-1000 dps which is very low for them
if you do it right you can win or go into never ending story of SR spam every 45 sec

king of the hill arena issues

It may mean you’re not suited for 1v1s but are great in team encounters. Maybe instead of focusing on winning in 1v1s you try to live as long as possible until a teammate arrives to support you

hey ppl

i have tried to play my hybrid build in the king of the hill arena
but unfortently i had trouble winning against some classes and builds (50% win chances)

but in tpvp and wvw i hardly have any problems (80% win chances)

i have noticed many builds used zerk amulets and not the cele meta

i fought against
hammer med zerk meta build – i manage to pressure him below 25% hp but he run back and burst me down with simple combo i didnt manage to avoid 30% win

s/d thieves – again manage to pressure them but when SR used i cant back of far enough so its never ending story 50% win

s/f ele – huge burst and cleanse 60% win

condi engi – hard fight but got 60% win

mesmer – hate them 30% win

so the question is the build and game style different in tpvp/wvw from king of the hill? or i just suck in 1v1

gs/ham is a unique weapon set combine together as both melee
gs for dmg , ham for more cc
for spvp your option are limited
zerk – if you know how to dive in and out fast
soldier – less dmg but hammer is a cc weapon

build options

2,1,6,1,4 – meta med build with good condi cleanse
0,1,6,1,6 – build around stability for your hammer slow skills

i dont know why exactly but as guardian i find it easiest for me to take down mesmers (any other class i have more trouble)

tactics i use
1. let him burst you first – weird yes but with your blocks abilities like sow/ aegis shelter he will need another 10-12 sec for another burst
2. then he will try to disengage with blink /stealth etc. this is the moment you pressure him like there is no tomorrow.
3. save JI when he blink away from you .
4. try to immobilize him with scepter
5. leap to him and use aoe symbol
6. he will try to dodge . so count them
7. he will try to go behind you so turn over camera fast
8. when you ready to burst JI symbol leap aa chill with weapon swap and kill

i also like the carrion hybrid build as they usually dont have any condi cleanse thus the burning bleed poison kill them when they blink away or stealth

i have tested it again

i managed to keep 2-3 bleed stacks and never higher with earth sigil – dont know why maybe bad luck with crit . so until i killed the enemy i didnt got the chance to proc bleed again so geomancy sigil is better or at least the same with doom (doom equal as 2 bleed stack and also reduce 33% healing ability)

regarding dmg – if some of the direct dmg crit than the dmg can be equal to the carrion amulet but if not its bit lower

you might want to try cele amulet

there are two options to make spirit weapon viable
1. make them hit harder as they tend to die pretty fast
2. or make them respawn sooner so reduced the cd significantly

i like the hammer with the kd and the heavy dmg on demand
the sword dont give much dmg to pressure
the bow is nice gimmick but nothing else
the shield the same

ppl asked me to show me how i handle thieves so i put few fights with them

thieves are basically separated into two groups – bad ones and good ones
the bad ones only focus on their rotations while the good ones focus on your rotations

you can see me taking down fast in the first clip bad thief. i hardly did any direct dmg to him so only conditions killed him
look for basilisk venom – they key is they dont like to miss it so use sow to block it and burn them while getting more might stacks thus forcing them to use healing skill or SS (smart one use ss +healing skill)
the key is to pressure them always as you got both direct dmg and condi dmg which they hate
s/d thieves will abuse #2 to cleanse and ss when you put 3 conditions on them and will use SB . if so be careful kitten can poison you while they kite you from range
p/d thieves again pressure pressure pressure or you die . if they SR run away unless you got sow available to counter their burst

the guardian lack in speed so its hard to do direct dmg to enemy who run away from you like ranger / thief / mesmer etc. thus the conditions are best in these situation. you can see me proc burning on engi and ranger without cleanse 5-9 sec while they are faster with more vigor than me and its ok as the dmg is 4-7k

also ppl say burning get cleanse – check out the fight against the ranger (3:45) with SotF trait
he used all his survival skills to cleanse the burning which just proc again and again even with signet protection

in wvw its different story as i use cele trinkets which give me nice stats and also food gives me 100% burning duration so 2 sec tick every 5th attack and from block so its more easy build to play

so most harder opponents are the condi ones and especially the range ones as you scepter is slow movement pressure but if you immobilize you can do nice burst

for me when i see poison i know its bad if i need to use heal skill thus i will use cleanse . i guess other will too so its nice cleanse bait

the burning duration is between 50% (support guard or ele) to 90% uptime
also i get 30% more burning duration thus the +7% dmg is hitting nicely as you dont need 100% up time to proc it just to get 5 sec burning with JI and burst with aoe and cleaves etc
krait – using rune which give bleeding duration which you dont nned and again to use elite skill to proc 1 torment 1 poison 1 bleed (even in aoe) .. the concept for me is worng as i use elite for defense and not offense thus i can proc it in the worng time like my enemy still got cleanse unused

rabid – 10k hp …. as you say 1 bs from a thief take almost 50% of your hp … and lets not talk about conditions pressure

what i have noticed that the enemy dont use cleanse when they see only 1 condition on them like burning unless they are below 50% hp , but when they see 3 stacks of bleed and poison and burning they will cleanse asap
thus make the hybrid guard more tricky as ppl dont got used to burning condition alone untill it may be too late

I applaud both of yall. The main thing being tested here is how rune of krait is being maximized. Since poison can be cleansed fairly quickly and really only useful against celes sustaining builds, bleed proc can potentially offer higher sustain damage or even “bursty” damage @ higher stacking bleeds.
My question is this: would replacing doom with sigil of earth and using Rabid yield higher damage sustain? The bleed procs may make up the damage lost from Carrion’s power.

Assuming you’re using build 62600, rune of krait and rabids, you’re sitting at 40% crit rate @ a 60% chance of procing sigil of earth. Simple math tells me that’s a 20% chance of procing bleed wich looks really bad. BUT…
-Cleansing flame (x10 hits)
-Zealot’s defense (x8 hits)
-Smite (x16 hits)
You’re looking at a consistent 3 stacks of bleeds with a high burst potential of 8+ stacks w/ rune of krait + geomancy = 824 damage (or more) per tick.

Assuming uncleansed:
Poison can do 205 damage for 7s = roughly 1435 damage with a nice -33% heal debuff.
A stack of 3 bleeds does 315 damage lasting for 8s = 2520

Thoughts?

the problem with full condi spec is in the meta comp. most the class/buid can handle nicely conditions thus unless you can assure your AA or combos to do good pressure . the conditions themself wont do much ehile they can do to you

rabid will put your hp to 10k which is way too low against any condi spec (engi/ranger/cele ele) so even with 3k armor it will be hard for you to say around doing dmg

krait again proc every 72 sec while flame runes give you 7% more dmg and burning proc thus making better choise (for me)

the poison is mainly to pressure the enemy to cleanse and not about the dmg tick as the burning is pretty much eual to 8 stacks of bleed . so add another 3 stacks from sigil is equal to 11 stacks of bleed which is very nice now add it to direct dmg and BOOM you got yourself hybrid working build

so far had much success in tpvp in any 1v1 and sometime 1v2 as i manage to down 1 or 2 if they used all their cleanse and even if i get down my team can stomp fast enoughf

ok, so rampager gives 53% crit chance with 170% crit damage

(0.53 * 0.7) + 1 = 1.371 damage modifier on average

Carrion gives 9% crit chance with 170% crit damage

(0.09 * 0.7) + 1 = 1.063 damage modifier on average

looking at these two build calculator links we look at GS auto attack damage.

Rampager does 502 damage with first swing

So Rampager damage should be

502 * 1.371 = 688.242 damage or 688 damage

Carrion damage should be

605 * 1.063 = 643.115 or 643 damage

Rampager is doing more damage right? 688 versus 643, or am I missing something.

I was not sure where you were getting the numbers from here:

base dmg on gs AA is 502*1.5=753 (688) so average direct dmg with crit chance would maybe be bit lower than 700 . 753*20%+688*80%=700

you are using krait rune which are condition while i am using flame which is power so i got more power with my build so the base dmg on gs is 668 and not 605

but dont forget again you are talking about chances so even with 50% few of your attack may not crit while on carrion the dmg is flat base on enemy armor and boons and also burning proc on blocks which you lack

the numbers where included fury which you got from meditations so buff you crit chance for 4 sec to 73% . i estimate that the fury uptime is around 20% of the fight

also with rampager the burning dmg is lower around 100 per tick compare to carrion

we all know guardian maybe the only class without proper working condition spec
(hybrid we got but full condi hardly useable)

also our spirits utilities hardly used either

what about this suggestion (i hope anet would listen)

make our spirits to proc conditions

hammer – burning (we already have trait which proc burning on spirit attacks but its so useless trait point to spent on it – so change it either )
sword – bleeding
bow – poison
shield – blind/immobilize

with it we can get along side our main condition burning another covering conditions which makes us par with other condi spec

also it wont be op as spirit tend to die faster then minions or turrets

but if we manage to put few of the conditions without our spirit targeted then our condi dmg pressure can be high with burning poison and 5-10 bleeding
and if our spirits get targeted than the enemy not focus on us so we dont need to spend too much points in survivability

concentration made for group play mainly thus more wvw than tpvp or pve

PF – true cleanse 3 conditions reduced conditions duration by 30% act as fire field so with blast hammer or focs 3-6 might stack and gs leap fire aura and burning for 6-8 sec every foe entering and exiting the are . overall good skill

HG – give aoe stability and fire field increases boon duration . again good skill in several situation if you need to control an area

sanctuary – indeed small radios of 120 so melee can attack you. heals a bit 1200 , and prevent projectile (engi/ranger mainly)

WOR – good skills in several situation against range class

as you see most of them for group play (not tpvp) and some rune them in wvw with concentration build

you got 53% crit chance and 20% more with fury traited
so 0.73*1.7 (crit dmg)0.27 =1.5 or 0.53*1.70.47=1.371

and you lose bunch of burning proc on block
so over time would be lower dps overall

Carrion and Rabid are pure condition damage amulets and they both lack one attribute or the other that we will need to focus on direct damage. One has power and vitality but no precision, this increases survival but leads to weaker condition application without crits and less direct damage.

The other has precision, but no power or vitality, lower survival and direct damage, but more condition application.

Rampager is a true hybrid amulet that provides direct damage, conditions, and survival. All at lesser amounts but the guardian has conditions built into every build (burning). Also they lack vitality, so this needs to be gained somewhere. Lastly this amulet still allows you to crit and increase direct damage with precision and power.

i did the math and tested the dmg on golems
carrion does more direct dmg dps over rampager amulet
carrion gives you 2k power over 1.5k power
scepter aa is very slow movement so u need to use them in close range to benefit the bleed on crit as its 3 sec in average proc with 2 sec cd you maybe can proc around 2-3 while in weapon swap you get 3 for 10 sec

still krait runes need an active elite (like ranger,thief etc) and ours is passive one for defense use

i am sure you have notice that the trait line doesnt give other anything special beside spirit weapon
in zeal i may lose 10% dmg while burning and focus recharge but i get kd every 12 sec and not 15 which i tend to use the first one on the start and after 12 sec
on virtues again i may get 20% more dmg while aegis up but again for 1-2 sec only while i get 10 sec more duration in spirit weapon

but you right and anet should listen as if i take full spirit weapon i am dead meat or i am pve player
but if i want to benefit one of them i need to invest in points in 2 trait line to make them nearly useful

ok after discussion and ceimash post around hybrid guard and cc needed
i tried this build a bit in hot join and had lots of fun

so instead of going in 6,2,6,0,0 with 33% more burning dmg i went with 4,0,6,0,4 with hammer and scepter/focus
i have 2 immobilize skills
3 hard cc with hammer and spirit weapon passive and active
so burning dmg is not 800 rather 560 but the launch ppl and kd chain them to death is nice too
the spirit hammer does nice 3k dmg on light armor and medium ones while kd them
also you have good cc against melee classes with area denial #5 and immobilize

is it good in team fight ?
not really as spirit tend to die fast so i try to use fast with the kd and launch to push back one enemy from the point and them mini 1v1 on him

regarding dmg
hybrid guard can do only with burning condition 800 dmg which means around 8 stacks of bleeding
or 5 stacks of bleeding and poison and torment

as you can see these are the conditions engi and necro or any condi class can proc in average fight on an enemy in pvp

now the guardian with sigils can proc poison and 3 stacks of bleed which potentially can bring the dmg even higher to 1300 dps

so the dmg lets say is equal to any condi class in the game in average

now what other class have
CC !
necro got chill/fear/cripple so with this chain especially fear those conditions tick nicely
engi got kd and few blocks
and guardian none of them (hammer is hardly a condi weapon with so low speed and long cd attack thus the cc in more passive than active

now take the necro add another life pook hp or the engi with good water filed blast self heal and you got self sustain cc condi spec
while guardian have 3 more blocks and short 2 sec of immunity (not to conditions)

this is why in 1v1 the guardian can excel as his dmg is higher and faster
but in group play the CC and self sustain is lacking
thus group prefer the engi / necro

for me if i group with bunker guard or cele ele even in 2v3 we can hold a point nicely and down 2 ppl at once as the burning proc is amazing while my ally heal me and protect me thus this build truly need specific class and build around you to be effective

the problem is not with the hybrid build or even the full condi one
the problem is ppl try to take it in pvp and work it out in situations which wouldnt worked
its like to take p/d condi thief against bunker guard on a point in tpvp. the thief wont be able to do much while the bunker could w8 for his dd ele or thief to fast taking the p/d out

thus the meta cele comp make it harder for use to shine right now

in 1v1 situation both medzerk and hybrid work nicely (i think the hybrid more)
also in 2v2 the same
but put it against dd ele and engi or bunker guard it will take some time to take them out as both healing and cleanse each other. but also every class will have some problem with this comp.
the word as i see it in tpvp high tier is sustain . dd ele sustain longer, engi the same, thief with evade and dodge the same . you wont see full zerk team as they cant sustain against the cele meta .. etc etc…

in wvw i have lots of fun with his build roaming and even in zerg fights
