i use torment because i used it before the mtd introduction… but now go for perplexity or any other rune you like.
torment rune add 45% duration and not 20% so with food you get 85% duration so if your enemy lack of cleanse let him run away and kill himself with 12 sec torment doing 5k-15k dmg
i dont use traveler rather perplexity or torment etc.
if they run from me i call it a win and usually i like them to chase me instead
as state above many class you wont be able to catch even with traveler
and if you run with group use theirs swiftness
the stornget build is 2,4,2,0,6 with cripple . so if you time it right your enemy wont be able to run aways if a clone stand nect to him so create more clones so it get killed – take practice to do that.
0,4,4,0,6 give you more staff ability or stunbreak
0,4,2,2,6 gives you more condi cleanse
0,4,0,4,6 give little bit more condi dmg and clease
most agreesive build is without staff rather sword pistol then use 0,6,2,0,6
if it works for you than its ok
not much of big changes
burning will be 100 dps higher but direct dmg probably will be the same lower

So I’ve constantly struggled with what condi clear I’m gonna use for MTD. I almost always end up at Resolve, which I frankly find an obnoxious cleanse to use; I really hate charging it up again. That being said, 4 clears per 20s is solid. I used to always run AT in WvW, with Menders, but shelved it in PvP because of the long CD.
So my question — have you ever tried dropping DD for Manipulation cooldowns? I ran through your videos, and very rarely have I noticed clone deaths. I actually didn’t notice one single weakness proc at all. With the nature of MTD being to shatter so often, I’m going to try this switch and give it a go and report back.
this is why i love this trait so much (evev over the power shatter) as it enable you to choose any trait you think is better for your game style and to adept easily before each match
i like DD trait. i practice a lot so my clones wont get killed rather shattered. but in some cases like with guardians ,ele and other aoe classes DD is good skills.
regarding condi cleanse- it puts you same as power shatter which run without condi cleanse. mantra is good one in group play as its aoe cleanse also fast one and hard to interrupt . arcane is also good one 1v1 as i like to grab stability 10 might stacks from ele or warrior and some regen (in the movie i got long regen and vigor time from the ele
)
also PD is good but as i like to shatter a lot and fast i dont want to kill it if he is not targeted .
so choose what ever suit you best

but it seems that you play phantasm build as they do all the dmg
if so you aint fully utilize them right
also it seems that your group carry you as in 3v3 you lost but in 3v1 you win so its hard to say how effective your build is
also dont use moa on 10% hp enemy
and try to save your GS push #5 when the guardian not immune to it
so i guess you as mesmer player are good as you know positioning which is the first thing to learn about mesmer

i am still try to find the best tactic and role with this build on tpvp. although most ppl say its not usable in tpvp
but:
1. great build 1v1 – so can camp far or close
2. good condi aoe pressure on point but not if there are ele and guardian
3. can stay on point not like thieves or power mesmer
4. great build against the cele meta or bunkering meta if play right while thieves and power mesmer wont even try them out.
5. i dont use portal as i have to loose 1 utility like condi cleanse or MI so bit more risky so i guess its not our role to travel fast
after dueling a bit i can say i have problem against d/p thieves as they are hard counter to this build with blind aoe ,stealth, condi cleanse
but any other build its 50%-90% win (in tpvp)
against condi build its more 50% win as who can pressure harder and longer
but with moa its almost 80% win (not so common with condi build – so surprise surprise)
i play 0,4,4,0,6 build with staff trait or mirror of anguish with krait runes or nightmare
krait for more pu playing around with clones – u can see 23 stacks of bleeding in the warrior with 2k bleeding dps and burning
nightmare – good against engi/thieves with fear and mirror the disable to them to break down their opening on me.
Two things:
1) wtf is your asura?!?
2) more importantly, one thing I noticed that we do differently in how we MTD. You seem to open mostly with CoF as your first shatter. I will 99% of the time open up with MW. This is because I expect many players to use a big condi clear when they see 6+ torment and the additional confusion and various other conditions on them. I then wait 12s for MW to come off cooldown, and repeat a MW -> Images -> CoF. Using CoF first makes me wait an extra 10+ seconds to burst before its back on cooldown.

2. i like to open in several ways
f1 gives little dmg and confusion and 2 torment and might
f2 gives 2 confusion and torment
f3 gives 1 confusion 2 torment and daze
my tactic is to bait thier utilities use earlier then mine with hard condi pressure. so i f3 daze to bait the stunbreak and condition cleanse, f2 to put again double conditions on them , f1 when needed against hard cleaners to further pressure usually f2 is ready again in the rotation
sometimes i go f1+f2+f3
also i like to bait cleanse with #2 scepter

for me its the best conditions build in the game. its far better then any other class and build
why?
as you mention above
burning, bleed, poison, vulnerability, torment, confusion
with staff you can play as pu and with 3 clones alone you can proc 10-15 bleed , burning which do 2.2k dps
with scepter torch you can play kittenter and do 15 torment and confusion which does 3k dps
i play in low-mid tier in tpvp and my results for me are very good
i can hold far or close against thieves/engis/ele (s/d thieves can be tricky)
i can go mid and put pressure aoe with shatter to force the enemy to cleanse use utilities early in the fight
i can moa important target and take it in 10 sec (as they tend to run so doable dmg from torment)
sure some compositions are harder like shouts warriors and bunker guard with ele as they can sustain longer so it really depends on my group comp but in 1v1 i can win them so i go to far or close
why i got bad community response ?
conditions dont work in tpvp – i asked what about necro or engi – they got good cc and aoe heal. its true but they got less condi pressure …
your clone tend to die b4 shatter – its true so learn to shatter at the right moment or let your staff clones do dmg
i find that if i run with dmg dealer like power mesmer or thief or guardian we can do wonder even in 2v3 as my pressure is aoe which put my enemy on panic button while the dmg dealer do its thing.
also the same if i run with bunker support build – i do dmg while he protect me
i dont run with condi cleanse unless i see 2 engi /or any 2 other condi class

i also tried to play it without PU and it works the same as i got only 2 stealth skills so i felt i didnt need it much
i just spread my clone far from each other
most common wisper – "didnt expect condi mesmer to moa me, gg ", or “cheese pu build”
cheesy i know but effective in low-mid lvl
shatter mes in pvp are just joking around
their dmg is huge but in group play hardly noticed and can be fast pressured
also the thieves if they dont pay attention
i watch almost every match and all i see that mesmer and thieves are just there to steal points but hardly to engage in any fight
if they see 1v1 they will back off as they know they will just loose time and points to their team so they look for the 4v3 do their burst and look for point steal.
so regarding dps its very low . regarding tactics can be great.
many time i jock around with stealth and steal far point for my team or just uncontested it.
The reason for sword in wvw paired with pistol allows you to keep your opponent in the fight box. 3 staff clones with ie does apply pressure but IMO since this is a shatter build taking illusionary invigoration allows you to use all your shatters again. The amount of confusion plus torment followed with the new torch phant(more confusion) duelist adding covering bleeds creates a powerful combination. Stacking over 15 torment/confusion/bleeds with on swap poison from doom sigils is nasty.
regarding II or IE
if i go against zerk thief i really like IE as my 3 staff clone will target him fast so i know where he is when he’s out of stealth and also if he target me they will freely target him for high condi pressure.
same if i go against condi spec
all other scenarios i like II too
you can go hammer with 0,1,6,1,6 and run stability from virtue and condi cleanse as well
Yeah after getting bored with the normal shatter and phantasm specs I tried this out, its a lot of fun. Took it for a spin in Spvp and had some really good games, the only class that gave me real trouble were really good Condi-nadespam-engies (those buggers are tough without any stability or condi cleanse).
Tried rune of Nightmare out for the condi duration and the random fear (though I was actually finding it messing me up by wasting my blocks) what Runes have you guys been having success with? I’m also not sure whether to go Rabid or Carrion, been running rabid but I’m not sure if that’s the way to go. Running 0/4/4/0/6, staff spec using Sce/torch and staff.
To you guys running sword, do you feel like the lack of extra torment stacks and confusion is worth it for the root and lesser damage from BF? I haven’t tried it out yet but it seems kinda counter to this spec, the swap-Bf combo may not be as necessary without IP. Gonna give it a try in WvW, gotta get myself a condi sword for the first time…ever.
nightmare runes for pvp is the best. if its mess up your block dont use block on the first enemy attack and w8 2-3 sec. rabid is the way to go with bit more toughness and crit chance to proc more bleed stack from clones. carrion doesnt offer much dmg
sword dont needed if you go with staff and IE with 3 clones doing 10 bleed stack in average before i shatter them. the root is nice but your shatter doesnt do much direct dmg. and i like to see my enemy use his dodges when my clones run to him.

you burning will tick 2 sec from F1 passive doing 1310 dmg and you AA will do perma burning so even if they cleanse you put it back up no time
if its more high dmg dps go 6,2,6,0,0 so your burning dps is 800-900 go with flame legion rune for more power and dmg modifier
1v1 you should be able to win most meta build
with group fight you job is to put pressure on the point in pvp so GS is better with its aoe abilities and leap out of the danger zone
in wvw you can go 100% duration with food 6,2,6,0,0 and do wonder while roaming

i don’t think it was confirmed anywhere that air combat is a thing.
it would be a bit OP though, because you can’t be ground targeted if you’re not on the ground, and you can’t be melee’d. plus, it would trivialize WvW defenses (why upgrade a wall if the enemy will just fly over it).
zerg v zerg is so boring in wvw just hammer the gate down and rush in
thus bring more options to defend like arrow cart which if hit put holes in you glide and boom you are falling down dead

the whole guard community say that condi guard not useful because guard dont have many conditions to cover the burning (although i dont really agree)
but what if we had a trait which gives us random condition every time we proc burning
1.change amplifies wrath which now give 33% more burning dmg to do with each burning proc 1 stacks of bleed/poison/torment/confusion/cripple/chill
2. searing flame – not so useful now. so again when proc burning it will proc every 5 sec new condition for 2 sec like above
1 as its GM trait is more powerful but give you less burning dmg which equal to 3 stacks of bleed. so with it you get less burning dmg but with amazing burning proc you can do nice aoe condition dmg
2 is more slow for short time and mainly on one enemy as it got cd thus adept tier trait

i just notice that in tpvp while fighting on a point the gs brings more direct aoe dmg and pull (or 380 dps for 10 sec which is uncleanseable) to the table while using sword just aim for 1 person
enemies see the red circle and back off simple as that thus i can contest better
i do believe that in 3v3 this build perform better (depends if there are bunker guard and dd ele who cleanse constantly) as in 1v1 medzerk perform better
and if you mean putting me on 50% hp is kite while the ele hp was 10% while also able to hold for few seconds 2 enemies more while 3 of them got burn …:D

i let myself get 50% hp then symbol from trait get proc and move alittle and proc another one from gs – this way i can cover the point while proc dmg and burning like crazy

you dont bring any support beside 1 med skill which will make you to be on your toes to activate it to your ally
3k armor is needed maybe in zerg scenarios but in 5v5 you can drop down to 2500 armor
the medzerk meta build design for that while supporting with boons
you can go shout guard with AH if you running with 5 allies with you
Heya this is the build that I’ve been using and had great success with in outnumbered fights!
Signet of Domination can be swapped out against either portal or Mantra of Resolve if you feel like it. I like having Rending Shatter instead of Crippling Dissipation but that’s up to you if you like it or not.
When I roam with friends I swap out Cleansing Conflagration for Shattered Concentration for the boon rips. In this build I use a sword instead of a scepter. The reason for this is because I play this build the same as I play a power shatter, very aggressively and iLeap-swap helps me land the shatters (also you get a 3 ½ sec immobilize due to all the condition duration). I often start with torch 4, then 5, sword 3-swap, shatter 2, swap to staff, phase retreat, throw a couple of Winds of Chaos.
This build is great for the AOE condition preassure it can put out and the 2 second burn duration you got on Winds of Chaos. Thieves are no longer a problem for me
You’ll also be pretty god kitten tanky!

Good bleed damage, lotts stealth and also some nice cover condi’s.

more direct dmg, more toughness, and with heal skill you can summon 2 izerk and do huge dmg burst, torch gives you condi cleanse and boons
you can put more zerk part if you feel comfortable
the one thing i want the most if they could add more diversity in builds and weapons across all classes.
as for now there is 1-2 meta builds for each class and i think the game will benefit if there were more than that
i play both build medzerk and hybrid build
1. with both i like to play against the mesmer in team fight as it push them to play defensively and blink away as if they dont they will get burst to 25% or even 0%.
1v1 king of the hill its different story and 50% win chance
2. team fight 80%. 1v1 50%
3. use the block when he try to shatter and JI to be on his face. against lock down i try to lure the interrupts with AA and if i see 2 interrupt i try to burst him with gs pull
4. both (more hybrid maybe as i like it most with the 800-900 burn which the mesmer have hard time to cleanse even when they run or stealth
5.gs pull #5 is game changer if it hits, time your #5 shield or you can burst down quickly, #3 scepter immobilize which mesmer hate the most, most of our attack are aoe so clone tend to die before they shatter
6. condi shatter mesmer are the hardest. in team fight the mesmer tend to keep distance from us guardian as it fight which even if he win will take time. condi shatter can do huge burst aoe on point thus making me use all my utilities earlier thus leaving me vulnerable
medzerk not supposed to play against them rather go hit and run
as for now this build got 3.44 points which put it on trash and there is no way it can get 3.75
:(
reading the posts above finally i love this discussion as it real one with great opinions
i give mine
i played this build before the 33% patch and after
i play mainly tpvp (even when my group hate it)
at first i played it like medzerk – totally mistake and achieved nothing
then i started to play it like engi/necro condi build.
i usualy take home and guard it as if the enemy send 1 on me its usually a thief or engi
i can hold the point better and longer as the engi need to back off and heal. he might outheal me but i got better blocks then he has (super pros which forgotten above)
another pros is that ppl constantly say that condition get cleanse. yes for the poor engi or necro it is , but guard can imminently proc them again which gives huge advantage if the enemy DD cele ele constantly staying on water and swap it for the cleanse and use all his utilities to stay alive (same to the engi).
i dont think there is a class who can put constant aoe pressure with conditions
now regarding conditions dmg on average:
engi – 4 stacks of bleed, burning (every 10 sec) poison, 3 confusion, and 1-2 cover conditions – total dmg mainly single target 1200 dps for 4-5 sec then it drops down to 800 dps. while direct dmg is low
necro – 5-8 bleed stacks, poison, burning (every 10 sec single target), fear – total dmg is 1000-1500 dmg dps which is constant and some aoe and with fear it gets to 2400 for short time but a nice burst. while direct dmg is low
ranger – no so common but only single target so more 1v1 can do with bleed , poison, burning around 2400 dps and on average 2000 dps. while direct dmg is low
guard – burning almost constant and most aoe , 3 bleed stacks aoe, poison single target , direct dmg on average as the medzerk (more as sustain dps and not burst dps). so total condition dmg is 1000-1200 while direct dmg dps is 1000 dps so the actual dps is 2000 dps and mostly aoe . cover conditions are mainly vulnerability and blind which boost your team dps on the target
now who is better
1v1 – ranger or necro but they cant hold a point , so engi or guard can hold it better.
group fight – necro, ranger are more 1v1 and single target burst while cant fight inside the point while engi can do more aoe pressure which is more harassing one then bursting one and guard can stay longer on point doing great aoe pressure
is the guard fit to the meta comp?
atm is hard to tell yes. but also the necro/ ranger and condi engi are not. i can say in lower lvl tpvp this build do great even in 1v2 till help comes . also this build great against the meta cele as it push the enemy to cleanse early or withdraw the point
thus this build bring both conditions (which in the meta comp is lacking and direct dmg)
also regarding medzerk – you dont see many of them as their burst easily seen from miles and thief or mesmer do it better.
i say if group take medzerk they should consider taking hybrid. with aoe pressure both from direct dmg and conditions you dont need much vigor or protection as your enemy will dodge and not you. down side you wont be able to burst the down enemy to death asap as the medzerk.
also combin the hybrid with any other class or build and they both can do wonder in any 2v2 situation on mid as again bunker guard or ele wont be able to do dmg and constantly cleanse while your teammate will do the burst dmg or you will do it while your mate protect you.
i know if you put me agasint higher lvl team i will lose as i dont have much experience and time to invest.
but in 1 fight i saw the enemy guard doing 900 burning dmg and direct dmg was around 1k so he manage to down in 3v3 2 of use after few short seconds till help came. no other class can do it better almost 2k dps constantly (and he had bunker guard who cleanse us and we had cleanse – the just get used and left us with nothing for 10 sec).

i think it should be 4 right next to the medzerk as i dont get why medzerk got 4 in the metacomp atm
even in the description it say it solid match up of the thief and the same goes with hybrid which also solid match up for engi, ele and any cele meta atm
I see what you mean and I feel the same. However, I still prefer carrion over rabid (did try rampager… ppl were literally melting, but it’s too squishy vs competent players).
So I switched to Staff/sc+torch, carrion+scavenger, 4/4/0/0/6, double energy/poison.
Real funI think I will stick with it for quite sometime!
Anyway, how do you feel about necromancer runes? Do you still use them even after the nerf? +15% condi duration is still great, but I preferred stronger conditions with the 7% vitality condi damage increase from scavenger. After all, 1 sec fear every 60 sec is kind of meh… what do you think?
Ps: on a side note. I went to www with the same build. Since I am rather poor I used what I have available: zerker armor+travelers, rabid accessories, zerker back, rabid weapons. Again, I am not saying the damage is “insane” but I swear it’s scary. I wish I had recorded some figths… hilarious to see 1v2 and ppl dropping like flyies. In the end I had 2.4k armor, 1.7k attack, 1.6k condi and something around 50% crit. I know it doesn’t mean anything, but dolyaks (since they keep moving) were going down faster than when using power shatter. Same for npcs. Reckless foes have no escape. Goods ones need to stay on their toes. Loving MtD!
scavenger with carrion is better as your base hp higher but the difference to condi dmg is not noticabel as much as you think (maybe +7 to beeld +5 to torment +15 to confusion for one stack)
but the hp steal is nice
nightmare runes even with 1 sec fear is nice as i use mirror trait which is another cc and agasint necro its another fear so if they use stunbreak then i get the upper hand and if they dont the condi is still ticking for 1 free seconds without being cleansed
i dont play it in wvw as i hardly find good players so they get killed very fast and just qq on wisper. or sometime i get only zerg so i get bored with it
in tpvp its much nicer
this is why i like gs in pvp as the aoe pressure on point is better then the sword torch while also you got nice pull abilities or another 4k dmg with chain
on 1v1 sword is better
Ppl are still stuck with their condi/hybrid builds? Boy what the point really, this kinda builds is only good in 1vs1 really -.-
medzerk is only good in 1v1
hybrid good at both 1v1 and group play cause of the condi aoe pressure it puts out if played right
1v1 i prefer the medzerk
in group fight i take hybrid anyday

I hate to say it but all the people you fought were extremely bad. :P
The necromancer did nothing and just ran, that ranger walked backwards while spamming 1 on longbow… the warrior never even tried to attack you. They all suck. I can kill people like that while naked. Also, if you link videos like this and don’t link the build, that helps nobody.Still, the ticks prove that burning guardian is legit.
