None of this makes sense to me.

Fall behind what?

What exactly is it you need to do dailies for? Unless you are doing nonstop fractals with every single character you should probably have hooked yourself up with whatever ascended gear you might want by now from laurels, so what is it you’re needing to do?

If you don’t want to do new content, don’t. If you don’t want to do dailies, don’t. Unless you simply don’t want to play the game, though, it is typically a simple job to complete most dailies just by doing what you like. I haven’t felt like I was grinding dailies since they changed them to the rotating selection process. There is almost no need to actually do living world content ever unless you really can’t live without whatever prize you get from the meta achievement.

I just don’t understand what the problem is here.

ascended gear is max stats, and also valuable for fotm. so you could say that people may want it. to get it as fast as possible, they are required to log in daily. every daily you miss is like a laurel lost.

btw, laurels give lots of other interesting exclusive rewards, and many more may come in the future (ascended weapons?).

But max stat doesn’t mean anything in this game. I ran in mostly greens, with a handful of rares and even a blue, because I wasn’t willing to spend gold on items I’d replace anyway once I could craft exotics. Do you know what amount of improvement I experienced in my play once I upgraded everything to exotics and ascended? None, at all. The numbers are so small that it literally makes no difference as long as your gear is at least close to your max level.

So no, unless you are doing high level fractals and are in need of agony resistance, there is no actual NEED for such things.

anyone who wants anything from the laurel vendor is strongly compelled to log in and complete the daily. so for these people, the game can start to feel like a job. it is fortunate for you and others that you don’t particularly have your eye on anything there, but telling humans to stop wanting things will get you exactly nowhere.

The reasons why SPvP is bad and feels awful to me

milo.6942

So I got this game a few days ago, I got a guardian up to 42 and was thinking the PvP was gonna be sick. Later when I started doing, this games PvP is a joke. Honestly, terrible PvP you just can’t go ham it takes usually 5 mins to kill 1 person, that’s just ridiculous. I love doing PvP games and I’ve played a lot and i gotta say that there are so many better games with better PvP. And don’t be like “stop QQing” because i know wtf im saying.

There is seriously something wrong with the PvP its just so bad not balanced at all just terrible. When I was researching this game before I bought it I thought the elite skills were gonna be like a big juicy burst which is what this game needs. This game has no sense of feeling of going ham. You just can’t. The PvP is like CoD, Gears of War, and a kittened up RPG twist into it.

The only thing that kitten es me off is you cant go HAM like go crazy and kill everyone. In Skyfall or whatever its called, whoever has the cannon wins and whoever can knock you off the map wins. Just so terrible. And I just don’t understand why when I asked people what a good PvP game is they told me GW2 because it is just NOT a good PvP game at all. Its a joke. The PvP is a joke.

Despite all my mad rage about this games PvP the questing is very vamped up and different than most games and enjoyable. I like the events and stuff, no other game has that but honestly I just recommend this game to people who like to mindlessly kill NPCs with a few buttons. The in game store is kitten too. Here ya go, you get like 2 slots in your bank, you have to pay for more. Plus you get these useless chests that you have to pay to open.

pretty good summary

SPvP Progression (PvE Player PoV)

milo.6942

the problem with rank is that it is trying to do 2 things at the same time

  • it is a reward mechanism
  • it is a measure of player experience

a measure of player experience should in fact take an almost impossible amount of time to “max” or indeed not even have a maximum. that would be just fine. however tying rewards to it is pretty stupid. especially when these rewards have equivalents in pve that are much easier to get.

The main issue: players want to farm

It’s also a shame that so many people playing this genre seem unable to imagine MMOs as anything but an endless, gear-obsessed grindfest instead of, say, a whole new world to become immersed in.

Keep in mind that it’s the same people that copy their builds from the internet too. They’re not known for their creativity or out-of-the-box thinking.

Other tipe of spvp modes

Hello,
haven’t played GW2 for some time, didin’t follow any news. So here’s my question :
Is there going to be added some tipe of ‘arena 2vs2/3vs3’ mode anytime soon? If that would happen I’m preatty sure many GW2 pvpers would be satisfied.

Nope, ex-wow players would be satisfied

We had tons of gamemodes in GW1, I hope they will take some from there before starting to copy other formats.

Infact, I am an ex-wow player, but are you saying GW2 pvpers do not want arena type of pvp ? That’s what I understood from you.

If you are writing the wow formats I know you can’t imagine better gamemodes, which gw1 had a great variety of.

Indeed, we need a deathmatch, but not a 2v2 3v3.

4v4 or 5v5 with some secondary objective maybe.

I actually disagree and I didn’t come from wow, I came from gw1 as well. With no dedicated healer 4v4s and 5v5s would be too much in terms of dps in a deathmatch environment.

exactly
they really won’t be able to remake gvg or ha in gw2 because the combat is bad, the best bet would be some kind of 2v2 or 3v3. anything more and it would be a nightmare

in PvP

it is very very difficult to judge what you should be doing besides attacking enemies. i really cannot stress this enough. you need to understand the entire game, and have a great deal of experience in order to make decisions related to “what is best for the team”. hotjoin contributes to this (even though it’s not clear exactly how much) because it appears to promote a deathmatch mentality and to get kills. then when people come to arenas it’s not immediately clear that killing everything that moves isn’t the best solution. but then, what is? in order to choose to do something besides attack nearest enemy, you have to have high level view of the match and understand the enemy’s likely moves, and have information about where your opponents are going, and know who is in trouble and what node is about to get decapped etc etc etc. it is just this continuous stream of information that is unavailable to people who are new, and even to more “experienced” players this information can’t be known without voice comms.

even with all of the information needed to make a good decision about where you should be and what you should be doing, actually knowing what you should do is still not obvious unless you have experience and know your role and your teammates roles and how things should normally go. it is a very very tough uphill battle for a new player to understand how to play this game properly.

I have played some Solo Arena matches and after losing to some guys who strangely were on the same team for many games in a row……i came to this forum and saw some posts talking about sync-queing…

IS IT REALLY HAPPENING!?

Because honestly, ALL YOU NEED TO DO TO STOP SYNC-Q is put some code into the queue to put the 2 chromatically closest players in the queue on opposite teams

IT IS THAT EASY. WHY DIDNT YOU PATCH THIS?!

EVEN 10 years ago, when I was playing 2v2 even 4v4 in Warcraft 3…..or even in the very basic World of Warcraft battleground (casual, not ranked) THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. Hell it could not happen in any game that is serious about PVP at all…..

…I will still play PvP but i honestly think this sync-Q is sickeningly ridiculous……the fact it could even happen is…………disgusting…..

surprisingly simple solution, can’t believe i never thought of that

hey while we are on the topic of players that predicted spvp fails months in advance, here is one of my most upvoted posts from 5 months ago:

Hello everyone, here are my proposed changes for how to fix pvp. I don’t think I will hear many disagreements from the players, but the dev team won’t like it because it basically means they’ve done everything wrong up until now.

I have been watching since day 1, and I have said since then that what you need is: matchmaking. Now you guys are starting to do it, but the player count is so low, it has a high chance to fail (“Why do I fight high rank ppl all the time???” asks a rank 9).

I propose a drastic plan to stop the hemorrhaging player-base, and grow your mmr system so it actually works and people can start to come back.

  1. Temporarily Disable Hotjoin
  2. Temporarily Disable 3-Round Tournies
  3. Add Real Solo-Queue Tourny System
    • Add Button on Screen When In Mists To “Join Solo Now”

Your player base is all over the place. Focus on your core. People want to play and not get stomped. Hotjoin is “OK” but it is diverting what few people you have away from where they are needed most. A solo queue can easily give what most players want: instant action. It has the added benefit of being likely to give players the game experience at their level. Newbies won’t be overwhelmed by zergs of rank 30+ thieves and eles. Ranks 30+ people will be able to play games that are challenging but not impossible to win. It should allow winners to continue playing for as long as they keep winning (perhaps cap it at 3, or 5, or 10). Sure, people can leave in the middle of the game, and that sucks for other people, but as soon as they lose they can get back in with a full team.

I repeat, you are losing players daily. Cut your loses, close the wound, and focus what players you have into a proper experience that they can tell their friends about.

Good luck.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

milo.6942

Anet got exactly the players it wanted. It talked about being an mmo for players that don’t like mmos, but it’s not.

Guild Wars 1 was a game for players that don’t like MMOs. It was a game for people who liked interesting combat and a skill system that made all content with a new set of skills like a new experience. You could get max level and gear in one day. Most importantly, it demanded teamwork and rewarded you with fun, progression through the story missions, or rewards such as armbraces and ecto for cool looking gear.

Guild Wars 2 is an MMO like all others, with a thin coating of Guild Wars lore. The skill system that made gw1 unique was completely destroyed. Teamwork is an afterthought. The focus is now on stats stats stats which comes from gear gear gear. Max level 80. Completely boring world pve with cyclical dynamic events and mobs that respawn behind you as you explore a cave. An avalanche of gear that honestly 90% of which looks bad. Ascended gear treadmill added. Fractals are the only content that is challenging in this game, but it is essentially a never ending excuse to add more gear tiers. Gemstore focus everywhere you look. Emails all the time about gemstore promotions. RNG everywhere in 90% of traits too.

They made an mmo and they’re disappointed in their players? No, I think they got exactly the players they wanted.

the thing that would most benefit spvp would actually be fewer stat combination, or even no additional stats at all (only from trait line). there are too many glass cannons and bunkers with nothing in between being nearly as viable.

devs rightly limited the stat combos in pvp, but in my opinion they haven’t gone far enough. but even so, this game’s pvp is pretty far out in the sea of bad pvp, so i suppose if they wanted to casualize it even further they could allow all pve stat combos.

how queueing should work

in PvP

Posted by: milo.6942

7. After a player leaves the undone game, the game is over. Winning team gets their victory stats, the losing team’s stats aren’t recorded (except the leaver). The leaver is banned from participating in stats games for 2 days.
/or implementing “surrender\concede” vote mechanism, so the game is proceeding

that would change a lot. now after some person leaves the game people just lay on the ground afk waiting for their stats ruining. both teams waste time to get undeserved stats.

i don’t like this. room for exploitation by teams about to lose taking turns leaving games so rest of team doesn’t suffer loss. also being banned for 2 days from pvp because you left 1 time is way too harsh.

how queueing should work

in PvP

Posted by: milo.6942

milo.6942

in another thread I wrote this, but anet should see.

  1. present join / requeue / leave queue options.
  2. 10 seconds to choose or it requeues you
  3. if it auto requeued you 3 times it boots you from queue with a message
  4. when you click join it doesn’t actually join the game it just shows a message that it is waiting for other players and you can continue doing what you were doing.
  5. when all 10 players have clicked join, then it moves all players into match immediately.
  6. if not enough players clicked join (or an uneven number if you prefer) after x amount of seconds (maybe 30) then it requeues all awaiting players with a message that some players didn’t join in time so everyone is requeued.

edit: just to be clear, this is when your queue pops. you have option to join or not, and no game begins unless there are full teams.
