all of you are kittens
you should not redesign the game to accommodate broken specs, you should nerf the broken specs.
and if so when does it end
This is a major slap in the face of pvpers
they have been slapping our faces since day one, what did anyone expect?
Watching it again I caught something very interesting on Guild Halls… “We want our players to have that sense of owning part of the world.”
Looks like they don’t want instances housing as much as the players don’t want it.
With a quote that vague, I wouldn’t get too excited if I were you.
… and very little of it is exciting? Or even, that because we have so much of it it makes us numb to it?
- so many currencies
- so much particle effects
- so many (bad looking) huge weapons
- so much trash gear
- so many useless traits
- so many sigils and runes
- so many intermediate crafting items
- so many shallow content updates
- so much marketing hype (for average-ish things)
- so much rng
- so much cash shop push
- so many soul/account-bound things
i feel it’s like spreading cake batter so it’s paper thin and then handing out tiny portions
Colin Johnson plans for this to be the last tier of gear. Exotic was just to easy to ascertain and anet had collectively come to the decision to try at it again. Googling quotes doesn’t help your cause. We all know what they said and they know what they said.
well if you think about it, when the armor is released it will be like a new tier because you have to start grinding all over again. and as far as i remember, he said ascended was the last tier probably for this year.
also for make god balance u should say to anet to put voice over of asra when he do skill. like he do atoatak and he say “i am ato attack!!!” or he do stelth he say “i do stelth!”! so we can kno wat he doin
Yeah it is a little silly that all the top teams in spvp run asuras. In my opinion to balance it, make everyone the same height in spvp. Problem solved.
no that is bad idea.
Dont see how this is a bad idea? Unless of course you play asura for the advantage.
to balance asuras u ned give buff too others
Removing official hotjoin servers will make more people buy custom arenas. In my eyes, this would be seen as “the plan all along” to have players subsidize basic game features. They should either be all removed or left as-is and provide better incentives to tournies (or less incentives to hotjoin). Either way, you would also need to fix matchmaking for soloqueue to really seal the deal.
so good i had to mirror it http://imgur.com/77c3g3a
Man I have been on these forums too long. I can’t even read the post, like how do you find the willpower to post suggestions when none of them will get implemented (properly)?
it uses the team queue code that was copy pasted over, so it collects teams that can be lopsided.
Energy system would of course be a good idea. it is nice that you have come to this conclusion. it will never happen, sorry
for kitten sake, stop asking for buffs
ask for nerfs to obscene specs
terrible idea. game is pretty bad. needs more development time. maybe in 2015 when they finish split all skills for spvp and we have a second game mode we can have f2p mists esports
So contrary to what they initially claimed (that Ascended was planned all along), Colin specifically states in that interview that Exotic WAS supposed to be final tier and Ascended was added because they underestimated how quickly people would get Exotic.
Ignoring the fact that people like being able to get max stat gear quickly so they then only have to worry about aesthetics, here we have proven that ArenaNet did outright LIE back in November, and that Ascended WASN’T planned prior to release.
Maybe I was out of the loop, but shouldn’t it have been obvious to everyone they were being quite shady when they announced the bump to legendary stats to make room for ascended?
i hope they provide a reason for time gating….
to keep people logging in every day, what other reason is there
Best pvp dodge ive ever seen…..I dont see this game ever getting pvp to a competitive level now….god kittening dammit
I missed it, what happened
Solo queue for tournaments, spectator, three new maps, and yes leader boards. I’m probably missing something but I don’t do sPvP much. I’m sure the PvP forum will be filled with complaints because someone who is happy won’t take the time to praise ArenaNet.
Solo queue is nice, but it should have been there on day 1. There are numerous problems with matches starting 4v5, and the matchmaking algorithm has been confirmed to be faulty, often putting together teams of better players vs noob teams. There is also another confirmed bug that causes one of the maps to appear far more often than the others, and has yet to be fixed in about 2 months.
Spectator is almost worthless because you can only watch hotjoin. Also you have to be present in the server to view the match, and that means no more than about 5 people can watch. There is no record/demo/replay functionality, and it appears that none is planned due to technical difficulties. Tournaments can’t be spectated. Spectator is effectively only for streamers during predetermined matches on custom arenas. BTW custom arenas are also a big joke, lots of money/gems to get one but if you leave it inactive for a couple weeks they delete it completely.
Three new maps of the same boring conquest. Nuff said.
Leaderboards that lets people sit 14-0 at the top with no decay while they play another account and due to abysmally low population it’s possible to sync enter with your guildies and dominate solo queue.
sPvP is doing great, I’m glad you brought it up.
Terrible voice acting.
Factions, in my opinion, had some really bad voice acting, the worst voice acting in all the original campaigns. I thought the voice acting in Eye of the North, on the other hand, was pretty darned good. Watching the cutscenes from Eye of the North in sequence makes for (pardon me for waxing slightly hyperbolic here) a quality cinematic experience.
Jora and the nornbear. Vekk and Gadd. Pyre and Gwen. Good stuff.
I agree, EotN was an excellent thematic experience. It felt like they took prophecies and moved it forward with polish and really made “guild wars” stand out in my mind. I didn’t especially like the dungeons, but I actually enjoyed the quests and the skills and environments.
GW1 was one of the buggiest, most shallow games I’ve ever played, and I’ve played it since 2005.
Terrible voice acting. Terrible story… Thousands of fetch quests and a dull, lifeless, poorly rendered game world.
I would never go back to GW1. Even with GW2’s many flaws, it’s still a vastly superior gameplay experience.
gw1 gameplay > all
Here’s an idea… Maybe play GW1 then?
Or do you like playing games you don’t like?
Help me help you man.
I do play GW1, thanks anyway.
You do realize you’re on a GW2 forum right?
Yes, I did. Thanks again. Am I breaking a forum rule by talking about GW1?

+1 for everything from me
i liked how you mention SAB as well. it is like a separate game that has a clear vision of what fun is. every encounter is a challenge to time skills, every step could be a wrong one and you fall and have to start over. exploring can reveal hidden bosses or new weapons with interesting mechanics. it is nothing like gw2, and that is why it is so good. You DO realize that there are games like SAB outside of GW2 right? Like tons. Instead of bumming the forums b——ing about how this game doesnt meet your needs: GO PLAY THOSE. I like SaB too but we didn’t buy Gw2 to play that kind of game. The reason SaB is nice is because it gives you a reason to play a different kind of game for a little while. If that’s ALL you want to do then you shouldnt be playing an mmo in the first place.
I play plenty of other games, thanks.

they look like something you’d find in a jrpg
Sometimes to put a fire out you stomp on it with your foot other times you run for water. Eat your vegetables.
That made perfect duck.
Oh mai gawd! This game is not like GW1!!!!! /ragequit
Not so much a ragequit as a drawn out realization that you bought this game on hype and promises of more of the unique guild wars gameplay you loved but it’s turned out to be generic mmo spoonfed content with time gated gear tiers and cash shop business gimmicks.
Like a really-slow-dirge quit.
I still don’t get why MF is in the game at all but ok, at least this is better than before.
sounds pretty accurate. there isn’t much reason i think to play this game after you reach max.
i think the “cosmetic” argument doesn’t really work in this game like it did before. it’s missing prestige.
Prestige is something that can be called end game. Prestige comes when you can show off something that is difficult to get. However, anet has interpreted “difficult to get” as “behind pay wall, rng wall, or time gate” when it should mean “behind challenging content”. Thus, all these pretty armors and such are not especially prestigious so the desire to get them and flaunt them is greatly diminished because they don’t say anything positive about you.
Here is my theory why the devs don’t talk to us more:
- They think we’re all idiots, or
- They also agree there are fundamental problems with the game that prevent pvp from ever really being good, and they have already discussed this internally and they were given the decision from higher ups that the changes that needed to be made were not compatible with the vision for gw2, and so they’d have to make do with what they had. If they start talking with us they will have to start agreeing, and then we ask “well why don’t you do it?” and they will have to keep saying that things are out of their control and that makes them look bad, makes the company bad, makes the game look bad, so they either voluntarily don’t speak to avoid this situation, or their management has told them not to speak.
I don’t understand why their top level gear also has to be their “cosmetic” gear. There should be easy access to basic ascended equipment, and if you want cooler looking gear that’s where all the gear grind can be. Why did they forget this simple concept from gw1? They want everyone to grind?
i cant play game for cosmetics only i need gear progresion the combat is shallow as it is i cant do dungeon for skins ill go play barby game if i like that :P
you’re right, the combat is very shallow, so i can understand where you’re coming from, but you should try a more conventional mmo if you want gear progression. i doubt the ascended tier will be enough for people like you, and god help us all if they release another.
Thanks for the link and not asking for opinions on my decision just some pictures, thanks!
hey man whatever floats your boat
oh man.. talk about decisions you’ll regret
all kits and conjures and such should scale with your base weapon
edit: i don’t mean they do, i mean they should have made it that way

this video will be deleted soon (it’s an advertisement for his stream) but it mentions both ptr and charged skills

i want to know more as well
They are running this game like a business. I mean to say they’ve got things backwards from what a game is supposed to do. You have to have a vision of what fun will be like in your game, and you’ve got to make it the best it can be. Here they are trying to cater to various people and their playstyles and their wants and their wishes. All different demographics, like a large business might try to net as many customers as it can by offering different products that have various markets. Except, this is only 1 product. A single video game. If you try to please everyone you will end up pleasing no one.
oh my god, kittenty conquest in wvw too?
Uhm do we play a different kind of WvW? Because last time I checked you get points by capturing and securing/holding positions
yea i guess you’re right haha
We already know there will be WvW stuff (it can just be what we saw in the stream though)
What stream is this?
Yes, I’m looking forward to Tuesday:
- My sister goes back to school
- It’s payday
Short of revealing a massive revamp of content or mechanics (dungeons, world bosses, skills and traits), added Fractals or new world bosses, I can’t see what the big announcement would be for PvE, unless Anet are playing up their content.
For WvW, for whatever reason, I think they’ve created new maps that will rotate at the beginning of every match.
On their twitch channel last week they preview 1 of 5 new sPvP-stlye nodes that’ll be surrounding the lake in the middle of the BLs. Many speculate it’s part of the orb mechanic replacement.
oh my god, kittenty conquest in wvw too?
nice job Sirendor
1) Why would you need this? It would only create “seniority”, aka, “I was here first therefore I deserve more” or “stf|_| I was here first you dont know jack”. All negeative stuff, dont know why would you need it, really
2) Never going to happen, stop asking for it! This is a social game, people can be in multiple guilds and they dont have to log in everyday. The first step is “when did they log last?” followed by “have they been representing the guild all the time? How much they add to the guild?” This would give guild leaders the option to start requiring people to be solely representing and logging in a minimun set of time their guild, which defeats the multiguild system and the fact that not everyone can log in every day, edit: also defeats the "invisible logging option
lol
there is a maximum of players that can be in a guild. once you get near that maximum you’re going to have to start kicking people who haven’t logged in for 5 months
I agree about how impressive it is to have the content updates every 2 weeks.
Is any other software developer doing this? Errrm no.
Also, when you look at them, they are pretty big, each update.
So it is IMPRESSIVE, even through each individual player may not like parts of it.
What do you find impressive about it? No other software developers are doing this for a reason. It is impossible to produce quality concepts and quality code with a 2 week dev cycle. I’m a software developer and I thought the previous one month cycle was crazy. No matter how they organize their teams to emulate a longer cycle, the meta is that they have a 2 week cycle. Everything produced to date is the fruit of short-term thinking to get something out the door. It will continue on this way until they extend their development cycle. Impressed? No, I would say that I am shocked that any developer group would consider a 2 week dev cycle even viable.
it’s actually something like 4 weeks, but i think the point is still valid. several teams overlapping each other. which creates an additional obvious constraint that these all have to be largely independent and self-contained. it’s nothing like a “living world.” more like a travelling circus.

Whatever they reveal, prepare to be underwhelmed.
I’ve spent a lot of time with heroes, trying to figure out how their ai works and what skills work best with them. re: targeting, the heroes are actually very good about this. you don’t even need to have a target called, they will prioritize whatever you’re attacking at the moment. i run all discord necros and they immediately attack my target, even if i haven’t called it. there are some exceptions depending on the skills. for instance they save anti melee skills for melee enemies that are attacking us, and some hexes such as parasitic bond they won’t cast until the target is about to die. a clever trick i learned was that they will cast life siphon on every target almost immediately, so this is a pretty good spammable hex for their discord.
heroes do have trouble with aoe, so i always prioritize aoe enemies. i have lots of party heals and party regeneration to counter the inevitable explosion from an aoe that lands on my hero pack. i also run an imbagon so that helps tremendously. and you are right the heroes may or may not interrupt skills properly. they used to be better actually, but they were deliberately nerfed because they were too good. panic is probably the best skill for interrupting. the heroes do use heals on minions, but only when your team is idle. i use neros for healers anyway because their innate energy management is simply too good.
They’re never good about focusing on my target. My Rit will hex the target I want dead, and autoattack it, and like my spirits, they choose a completely different target. instead of targetting the monk healing everything they target a warrior because it’s closer. Instead of targetting an elementalist that is about to nuke you unless you burst it down, they target a warrior.
The only way I’ve found they lock on my target is well, individually 1 by 1 locking their target manually, which is a real pain.
Discordway works because they will of course, target the target that is both hexed and has a condition, the prerequisites for discord to do damage. Since you’re supplying the hexes and conditions, you’re calling their target by way of their main damage skill can ONLY hit that target.
I hate discord way though because you can’t even play YOUR class, you play a build entirely of PVE skills and assassin’s promise.
that’s really very strange. they’re usually quite good about targeting. i know they may sometimes use aoe skills on balls of enemies instead of your target, but otherwise they are fine. also, i have no hexes on my bar. as I already mentioned i run imbagon. that’s also why i mentioned life siphon because my heroes take care of all the necessary hexing and conditioning before they discord. also i used to run 3 paragon heroes and they were fine with targeting as well.
the swiftness boon stacks with itself, increasing the duration.
the swiftness boon does not stack with any other movement speed increase.
