Most of the other veterans have left the company and many are still leaving.
i don’t see any real cure for zergs when damage > all. what kind of content were you thinking of
I’ll stop wasting my breath.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Guild_Wars
The game isn’t called Guild Wars because it has guilds and they fight each other…
- Actually that’s almost certainly why it’s called Guild Wars. Some obscure lore fact could have easily been slapped on afterwards.
- What does it matter what the game is called? People expect a sequel to have similar elements they liked.
- It’s not at all. The lore fact was the very beginning of GW1 and was a heavily prevalent scene in the tutorial as well as the entire game. You didn’t play GW1 without knowing what The Guild Wars were and how they affected the world around you. GvG was even guided by lore, as it was turned into a sport by the Xaishen who ran the Battle Isles after they saw the affect the The Guild Wars had on the warring nations of Tyria.
- No, it doesn’t. However, when GW2 was first announced we were told that it would be a completely different game than GW1 and may not include many elements. We were warned. We understand. You new, entitled players seem to think you have it all figured out and that you deserve GvG because it’s in the name of the game and GW1 had it. GW1 also had HA, RA, 6 PvP modes, Cantha, Elona, Henchmen, Heroes, mountains of skins, more traditional combat, a steep learning curve, and millions of viable build opportunities waiting to be discovered and shift the meta. Does GW2 have any of that? No. Either deal with it like the rest of us or quit.
there is no definitive answer to the true meaning of the game’s name, and I don’t think it’s important. but it really drives me up a wall when people try to claim it’s based on lore when we have a pvp-focused game’s most prominent pvp mode called nearly the same thing. comparing the 2 things it makes much more sense they named the game after their main pvp offering. when i said they could have added the lore afterwards, I meant during development, after conceptualizing gvg and added some lore in the pve world. there are rumors there wasn’t even supposed to be a pve campaign in early design phases. the entire game, top to bottom, took pvp seriously and it stands to reason this was the genesis of the game’s name.
as to your second point, i’m not buying this “entitled” player mentality. and i already quit, but i am having enough fun in the forums, thank you very much
Guys I figured it out! He was “a hardcore GW1 player” not a fit for the company.

They can add whatever “features” they want, if the core pvp gameplay is not fun then it’s all worthless.
Actually that’s not entirely true. There are other issues besides spammy and skilless gameplay. The rank system is way too carebear and rewards everyone win or lose, so it’s a poor measure of player skill and offers little prestige. Also this conquest is so mind-numbingly boring and stale, a similar mode in gw1 was barely considered pvp when compared to Random Arenas even. So I would say there are 3 large problems with core pvp that make all the bells and whistles they want to add completely meaningless.

1/ I’m not convinced GW2 is entirely in the different direction. In my experience, GW2 is an MMO while GW1 was not. GW2 is exactly what you’d get when trying to make an MMO out of GW1.
Well, it’s always a matter of opinion but here are some thoughts.
GW1 had henchmen and heroes.
GW1 had group play as a main element
GW1 had well organised sPvP with much variety
GW1 elite armour tooke more effort to collect
GW1 had no TP, trading was done in Kamadan mostly, between players
GW1 had trading between players
GW1 had a world that was darker, more in line with the background story
GW1 had character classes that actually made a difference
GW1 didn’t not have WvW
GW1 didn’t have zerg content
GW1 didn’t have jumping puzzles
GW1 didn’t have tiers for gear
GW1 didn’t have crafting
GW1 didn’t have mystic forge RNGNow, this is not about what’s good or bad but about differences. I think when you look at it, it is significantly different as a game. To me even the things that are similar are done quite differently.
if i could get guild wars 1 with updated graphics (not exactly the same as gw2, it is a different style and is too flashy), jumping, jumping puzzles, and a new world with new storyline missions and just new content with gw1 mechanics as the base, I could have been happy for another 7 years.
GW2 is going in the exact opposite direction of GW1. In every single aspect of the game. Which is incredibly sad for all the GW1 fans.
Actually, I would like to know if there’s any GW1 fan that likes GW2 better as a whole.
vayne will be quite happy to tell you he does, and possibly write several more paragraphs describing why
Bring back Guild Halls.
Bring back GvG.GvGs are already active within the game but must be purchased via the gem store. See “Custom Arenas” -> Allowance by guild.
that was a bad joke
To me they were like the worst PuGs ever, just at different things.
Even a completely brain dead pug will hit T if you spam control T on a high priority target 10-15 times in a row, heroes will not. However heroes usually will focus on one target of their choosing, it’s just not of MY choosing, PuGs often won’t focus one target unless you spam control T so much it makes their ears bleed before they pick up the hint, but once they do, it is your target they’re on.
PuGs won’t just stand in aoe and die, if there’s one thing PuGs do do, it’s flee when they see they’re dying. They may flee into other packs and cause a wipe, but they won’t stand in the aoe and die, and 7 of them won’t all stand in the same aoe and just die.
PuGs will for the most part TRY to interrupt priority skills, they will however, suck at the timing of it, and probably just try to guess/anticipate a skill and waste their interrupt. Heroes have the timing to interrupt everything and anything with enough interrupts at their disposal, on multiple mobs at once even if you’re not targetting them… just sometimes for whatever unknown reason, they let a spell go through despite having a bar full of interrupts not on cooldown, hey Gwen, you want to get that Deep Freeze from the boss ice elemental? … Gwen? GWEN?! This is possibly the most frustrating simply because it’s unpredictable. Sometimes they nail it right away, sometimes they wait until its almost cast, other times they just let it go through and blow your party up or res the enemy’s ally. Your only real solutions are to well, mark the target you want interrupted with pain inverter, because for whatever reason they ALWAYS interrupt a target hexed with pain inverter, or carry an interrupt yourself. I go /Me and use web of disruption, just as a backup in case the heroes won’t interrupt it.
Flagging.. like I said, if there’s a lot of elementalists in the enemy group you literally do nothing but flag heroes around and autoattack, because it’s just aoe after aoe that they will stand in and die. Flagging for a retreat, I find that heroes tend to stop running and cast spells, getting themselves killed. Speaking of casting spells, they will waste all their energy casting heals on minions, and then let me die. Even the worst of PuGs knows not to bother healing minions.
I’ve spent a lot of time with heroes, trying to figure out how their ai works and what skills work best with them. re: targeting, the heroes are actually very good about this. you don’t even need to have a target called, they will prioritize whatever you’re attacking at the moment. i run all discord necros and they immediately attack my target, even if i haven’t called it. there are some exceptions depending on the skills. for instance they save anti melee skills for melee enemies that are attacking us, and some hexes such as parasitic bond they won’t cast until the target is about to die. a clever trick i learned was that they will cast life siphon on every target almost immediately, so this is a pretty good spammable hex for their discord.
heroes do have trouble with aoe, so i always prioritize aoe enemies. i have lots of party heals and party regeneration to counter the inevitable explosion from an aoe that lands on my hero pack. i also run an imbagon so that helps tremendously. and you are right the heroes may or may not interrupt skills properly. they used to be better actually, but they were deliberately nerfed because they were too good. panic is probably the best skill for interrupting. the heroes do use heals on minions, but only when your team is idle. i use neros for healers anyway because their innate energy management is simply too good.
We still need raid style grouping for large groups.
Yes. I, too, am disturbed by the lack of zergs in this game.
I know a lot of people don’t want to hear this, but new spvp modes and gvg can’t happen (or will be very difficult to make work right) largely due to lack of healers, among other issues. You might be able to make a small 3v3 work, but any larger and it just becomes a “whole team focus 1 guy, then aoe his corpse so they can’t res him” affair. wvw works because there are so many people that resses can be instant. This is exactly the reason we have conquest, which in case you haven’t noticed tries its hardest to split your team up across 3 nodes. I suspect even a 3v3 deathmatch without respawns would also be “skirmishy” as people run around waiting for cooldowns then jump enemies doing burst damage, then run away when they get low.

This game isnt even subscription based, so why bother with time gate crap? Its not like you are tricking us into wasting our sub time so we have to buy more. Your just doing it to be kittens.
the more people logging in, the more people that may consider the gemstore
simple. it is challenging and fun. sab is a better game than gw2.
Can someone explain, in detail, as to what this is all about? The OP is too cryptic.
Did you even bother to click the wiki link he posted? Everything is explained there.
Yes and I saw nothing that explained anything about how to obtain any of what the OP was referring. It is just some link to some summoning crystal.
So, what is this all about?
/spoonfed mode activated
Acquisition
Given by Fylinn, Sworn to Winds during Wayfarer’s Reverie, in exchange for a Proof of Waves, Proof of Winds, Proof of Flames, and Proof of Mountains together.Let’s click on the Hyperlink for Wayfarer’s Reverie
Wayfarer’s Reverie is a special event that occurs around the Guild Wars 2 original release date on August 28. It is comprised of four quests which take players throughout memorable locations related to the main plots of the Guild Wars campaigns and expansion. PvE foes drop Wayfarer’s Marks during this event, which can be traded to Reverie Prize Distributors.
Now you’ve learned how to use a simple website
So, I went to Wayfarer’s Foothills and there’s nothing going on…no ‘reverie’ or whatever. I’m sitting here pounding my head against my desk. HOW DO I GET THE ITEMS?!?!
Did you miss the part in the title, the first post and throughout the conversation where it’s clearly stated this is a GW1 (Guild Wars One) event?
There is no Wayfarer’s Foothills in GW1.
Instead of assuming that I know this cryptic information, how about someone typing out a detailed guide so that I and others will know how to get these items?
I still have no clue as what to do or where to go or even which game to log into.
no one ever said it was in “wayfarer foothills” — the quest name is Wayfarer’s Reverie and the game name is in topic title. at least show some humility when you’re so wrong it’s painful
there are 4 quests, all linked in the wiki. here is an example of 1: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Wayfarer%27s_Reverie:_Tyria
on the right side you can see the npc that gives it and where he is. hold down alt to see npc names to quickly find him when you’re in the town. further down are screenshots for a walkthrough. if you are still lost i can’t help you.

i agree twitch always lags for me I have to download and watch. youtube pls
good video though
I have a theory.
I think ANet was actually testing it out this year to see how the community would react if they have us predetermined gifts. Because looking at it, I can’t fathom any other reason. Obviously they have enough resources given they released season2 minis in what was within a span of a week’s time, And they had the time to reiterate their plans in regards to the gifts if they wanted to. Unless ANet is legitimately trying to be a kitten and kitten off the player base at large, which I think would be absurd for any company regardless of their quality, there’s no other possible explanation in my eyes for why they would fix something that was legitimately the only good broken thing if even that.
“gemstore poisons everything”
Echo — Enchantment Spell. For 30 seconds, Echo is replaced with the next skill you use. Echo acts as this skill for 30 seconds.
Diversion — Hex Spell. For 6 seconds, the next time target foe uses a skill, that skill takes an additional 47 seconds to recharge.
Psychic Instability — Spell. Interrupt the target foe’s action. If that action was a skill, that foe and nearby foes are knocked down for 4 seconds.
Insidious Parasite — Hex Spell. For 13 seconds, whenever target foe hits with an attack, you steal up to 39 Health from that foe.
Spiteful Spirit — Hex Spell. For 18 seconds, whenever target foe attacks or uses a skill, Spiteful Spirit deals 29 shadow damage to that foe and all adjacent allies of that foe.
Soul Leech — Hex Spell. For 10 seconds, whenever target foe casts a spell, you steal up to 67 Health from that foe.
Distracting Shot — Bow Attack. If Distracting Shot hits, it interrupts target foe’s action but deals only 13 damage. If the interrupted action was a skill, that skill is disabled for an additional 20 seconds.
For the few times we agree with each other, I had to post about it…
It’s odd how they could have such an amazing target system in GW1 and completely screw it up in GW2… I mean, didn’t they have the code/knowhow to do it? Or is it some elaborate troll they did just to mess with us?
Sometimes the stars align, and we agree.
Yes, I miss how simple it was to target the closest enemy (without having to look at that enemy), or to quickly tab through enemies and get the target you want. Instead we have a rather broken system that loses targets all the time, and frequently targets enemies that are out of range. There could be an enemy right behind me, beating on me, and “target closest” will still select some target far away.
In GW1 it was so simple. I never selected the wrong target, or lost my target. Did they not have time to implement it well? Did they forget how to do it? Or is the current target system simply the result of multiple systems stacked on top of each other, that don’t work well together?
it was a design decision, along with their whole combat system. the idea is that it introduces skill and “active play” along with all their attack skills that need you to be in range and facing the correct direction and line of sight to be unobstructed and terrain to be even and the planets to align.
The importance of different roles. I don’t mind that there’s not a hard holy trinity in GW2, but GW1 you needed healing, some sort of tank/damage sponge (even if it’s spirits/minions), defensive support (imbagon, prot monk, ST Rit, E/Mo bonder), offensive support/control (interruptors and hexers), and dps. In GW2, thanks to defiant, low healing power coefficients on everything but self heals, and inconsistant aggro mechanics (some bosses target lowest health characters at the exclusion of all other possible targets), and the fact that all damage is expected to be dodged, all party members fill 1 role: DPS.
yea for me too. all the classes feel boring and homogenized in comparison to gw1. the boon and condition system has been reduced to damage/reduce damage system and everything is about damage now. no interesting hexes no interrupts no healers no protters no snarers no team pressure no positioning no reliance on teammates at ALL.
if anyone knows any indie rpg-esque game that takes pvp seriously comparable to gw1 pm me
1.-The minipet: It says “from 150+ minis at this point of the game we’ll give 1, buy the others”
2.-The Birthday Booster: The sole existence of boosters –of any kind- says one thing “the sum of your level and all your equipment is not enough to get by, achieve accomplishments or anything in this game, you need a little extra, buy it”
3.-The Experience Scroll: It says “Oh! Players that leveled all their chars “manually” are suckers! Now level to 20 with one click! Who cares if this is a MMO and leveling is an important part of the structure of the game!
4.-The fact that every character gets the same is just nonsense redundancy.
In sum, there is no re-playability
some good points
everything in this game speaks to a core message, a spirit, a feel
this message is different from its predecessor
it used to be something like “play when you like, no buy-to-win, player creativity is rewarded, player skill is rewarded”
and now it’s like “play when we say, check out the overpriced gemstore, buy gold for a legendary, creativity is overrated, skill is overrated”
there are lots of other “messages” but i think the rest link to the gemstore and how they encourage you to spend money
Crafting nets you the most XP per unit of time.
and also uses all of your money (or time if you want to farm the mats)
in my experience, hearts give little xp . to level faster you have to hunt around for events
are we really having a discussion about pvp gear progression
really
i like to imagine the 3 founders of arenanet making gw1 with colin being the third wheel coming up with weird ideas and the other two largely ignoring him, then when they left and he had a chance to shape gw2 he left behind all good gw1 ideas just to stick it to the other 2
it is a total grind fest but it has the most beautiful graphics in any MMO up till now.
I’m not going to play it though.
Now Wildstar… that one i will
idk about wildstar, it has good hype but then again so did gw2
Why do you care about abusive time restrictions? Do you let the game dictate how you spend your only life on this earth? That’s how it sounds like. You log in because you have daily to do. You log out because you’ve done your daily. Does it make your life better in any way that you go out and slay 30 critters to get 1 more achievement point for your game account?
well sure, if you compare with human mortality you can trivialize anything
2/10 for effort

Don’t forget Anet, designed it to have minimal choice. So that their job could be easier.
Seems like they had a easier time with GW1.
considering the game sort of spiraled out of control to the point where some classes operated on a significantly different level in PvE vs PvP, shows says otherwise.
what a useless point, of course there are large differences — they’re completely different environments
You are right, but it goes to show you how the balance so how out of whack that classes. Ultimately though PvE and PvP are part of the same game, you cannot ignore one because you prefer the other. The point being you might WANT PvP to be entirely different but ARenanet doesn’t agree with you and so you have to look at both things not only one side.
never said i prefered one over the other
anet have already stated they will need to split more skills and traits
there have always been large differences in class effectiveness in gw2 pvp vs pve
i don’t know what you’re smoking man, you’re just making things up

this game’s philosophy is to reward those who log in daily. not those that do difficult content, not those that play more, and certainly not those that have a life during the weekdays. there is so much tied to the “1 per day” philosophy that it feels like a job that you have to work at every day or you fall behind. and yet, there’s very little to gain in this game anyway, which is why it feels like a pointless job. all this time gating and nothing to really show for it. the game wants you to log in every day, but for what reason? why does it insist i play by its schedule and not my own? i have my own speculations but i’ll leave it to the reader to draw their own conclusions.

“developed by the Korean company”
…
let’s do it like this
2v2 deathmatch arena
enter solo or with friend
no matchmaking, no leaderboards
continue after winning
5 min countdown
small arena maps
minimal amount of glory
chest after every 5 wins
new achievement title rank increases each win
Update your graphic card, sometimes its the graphic card that cause the lag because it is not updated, Also check if it is FPS lag if it is than its definitely Graphic card problem that needs to be updated. if you only had lag today than its server lag because i had lag spikes for 2-3 minutes every 1 hour or so…
it really doesn’t sound like he’s getting video lag
You mean the GvG that wasn’t there from the getgo in guild wars 1, is that what defined guild wars 1?, an area of the game not even in the release?.
what are you smokin man
3. Create GvG – Solutions for more PvP modes
A GvG mode wouldn’t be that hard to create;
I – Name the PvP maps “Guild halls”. They can be chosen when you create a guild for a little money.
II – Create a Guild based rating not a player based. Also create a Team based matchmaking. —> You can only play GvG when you represent your guild.
The thing about GvG is the feeling of achieving something as a Guild! I think with GvG available more PvE guilds would start to play pvp! With “playerladder” and not team based PvP you don’t get the feeling of a “team”.LOL what a noob! The game is called guild wars! why would having guild vs guild ever be a good idea?
I can’t think where anyone got the idea from :PIts Guild Wars because of the historical event that happened, not because you are fighting GvG. Inform yourself before acting kittened.
lmao
yes, of course. a pvp focused game with its most famous mode being guild vs guild isn’t named for that, but some obscure event in lore that is mentioned exactly 2 times in the entire game.
(edited by milo.6942)
there should be option to view everyone scaled to same height
then just die and wp out
if you think those are going to be effective at keeping someone up that’s being focused by entire enemy team then good luck
though i do agree there need to be more game modes. unfortunately fundamentally this game is not very appropriate for most pvp modes.
the lack of healers limits the game types
lol his posts are comments
all this naive white knighting has got to stop.
a business will take as much money as it thinks it can get away with. it doesn’t just stop at “enough” and then lower the prices because it wants to be nice. they’ve said themselves that the gemstore was a huge success and they don’t even need to fall back to a boxed expansion. they are making quite a bit of money, and that’s fine. but it’s up to the players to let them know what is and is not a fair exchange for our money. rng boxes prey too harshly on people’s gambling instincts, and they should find alternate methods of sale.
food buffs, pve armors, unrestricted stat combos… you guys are really in the wrong forum.
Ok, now which is it? I have 3 different people saying that fun means 3 different things. This is what I meant when I said fun is subjective.
To some people, it’s fun to knock people off the edge of skyhammer. To others, it’s fun to be matched up against equally skilled players. To even more, it’s fun to feel like you’re great at the class you play.
if you try to catch all types of players, you will end up with none
deso is the main one i believe, but you could guest to the other servers and check them out
Why don’t people give it a try in custom arena with organized 5v5, 6v6, etc… in Legacy of the Foefire, turn off the capture nodes, and killing enemy lord is the only way to win
I guess more rules could be added later, but at least start from the basics.
what’s there to try? only way to win would be lord rush
where from?
wow I’m surprised there wasn’t a single reply in favor of op’s post. i read it all thinking “yea that’s pretty much how I feel” and thought he laid out some reasonable criticisms and possible solutions. the game needs to be more challenging and punish mistakes more. otherwise the victories are meaningless. i can’t say anything about the wvw section though, since I don’t play it.
A certain type of player plays games for challenge. But then, what’s more popular, slot machines or chess? Chess is more challenging but more people play slot machines. Why? Because people require different things out of games.
I don’t mind occasionally challenging content, but I’ve already done the hard yards. I’m older. Life was challenging enough for many, many years. Now, when I sit down to entertainment myself (and make no mistake, games are a form of entertainment), I want to relax, not be frustrated, not bang my head against wall. I just want to have a good time.
For many people games are an alternative to TV or movies or books. They’re something to enjoy. Not everyone desires the same level of challenge in their down time.
i thought it was funny you compared chess against a soul-sucking gambling addiction machine. feels like an appropriate metaphor for gw2.
btw gw tells me “Gro Kitel” doesn’t exist
