Liadri the Concealing

I didn’t have time last year to finish the gauntlet, so this year I picked up where I left off at Salazar (or whatever the fire ring guy is named).

I used my condition warrior and blasted my way up to Liadri with few hiccups along the way.

Once I got the hang of Liadri’s mechanics (it’s like a Zelda boss), I made about 20 attempts at her before I swapped characters to my Necro, dropped about 15g respeccing him to a condition build, and beat her in 2 or 3 tries.

Long story short, condition necro made the fight simplistic because you can simply stack her up with conditions and then kite in a tight circle around the middle (to avoid the shadowfall and clones). Also note: blind prevents the clones from one-shotting you, so you can drop Well of Darkness and just stand there too.

Easy fix if your lying dead for more then 1 or 2 minutes, outside of a Dungeon, you can’t be rezzed it just wouldn’t work. You would have to WP. Edited to add and your name wouldn’t show so ppl wouldn’t waste their time on you.

That’s actually not a bad idea. If you lay on the ground dead for 60 seconds you get a “Rigor Mortis” debuff that prevents player resurrection and can only be cleared by using a Way Point.

What's happening to gems?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

“What’s happening to gems?”

Basic economics.

More people want to avoid spending real money for gem store items, so they spend gold. This depletes the “stock” of gems and causes the remaining gems to cost more.

At some point, we will have a relatively equal number of people who are buying gems for gold as we have using gold for gems which will stabilize the exchange rate.

Fact is, they used the word incorrectly and now get to spend hours dealing with support tickets because they haven’t taken the 20 seconds to edit the text string into something that actually makes sense.

Textbook definition does not equate genre definition.

Which is why they need to explain it better. If everyone who played the game had familiarity with table top game terminology then this wouldn’t be an issue because they’d know what was meant. It really is just a text string that would take 20 seconds to change into something that was actually meaningful to the players who clearly don’t know what it means.

Mounts- Why or why not should they be added?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

Due to the resources that would need to go into mount design (since the different races would need new animations for riding the mounts and the skins would need to adapt to each race), the only way that they will implement them is as gem store items.

In that event, they would also be unable to provide you with any type of speed enhancement because that would be a gem store fiasco and a public relations nightmare.

Basically, they would be tonics that let you look like you are on a mount while out of combat.

There is a long list of content I would prefer to see before they made anything like that, which is why I am opposed to mounts at this time.

I don’t see where an argument is popping up here. Why can’t we all just agree that putting a little more information or warning on “unique” ascended trinkets is a good idea?

Instead we have people coming on this thread just to say “you should have known better”. How very constructive.

Mostly because if people fail to read the section in the item description regarding RESTRICTIONS when it simply says “unique,” they are just as likely to fail to read an expanded information line.

You have to know that is BS.

I was a victim of this myself. I saw “unique” but was totally unaware that a character could only equip one, though could buy two. Just because you and others understood it, doesn’t mean everyone does – as this thread shows.

Again having ArenaNet put a more clear warning on these items does not negatively effect you or others. Its not taking anything away from the game. Its just adding clarification to an item. You and others are just finding enjoyment from kittening at people on this thread…. for what?

Unique.. i.e. – “One of a Kind”.. .. if your were wearing two identical unique items then how can they possibly be one of a kind?? … the “Unique” Tag is representative to you not the item across the entire game, otherwise no one else could ever buy, loot, craft or achieve anything you have, which would mean ANET would need to have and endless supply of item type graphic, animation, text, stats etc.. which just isn’t feasible.. therefore Unique is absolutely correct for its use.. i.e. “YOUR” use, however, I do accept ANET need to improve their tag visibility in these areas.

There is no definition of the word “unique” that allows it to be correctly used by ArenaNet here.

Basically, they have created their own definition of the word which is “can only have one of your infinite number of copies of this item equipped at any given time” and then expected all of their players to divine that answer through bone casting.

Fact is, they used the word incorrectly and now get to spend hours dealing with support tickets because they haven’t taken the 20 seconds to edit the text string into something that actually makes sense.

[Suggestion] Account bound bag

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

I think part of the reason they won’t be inclined to oblige your request is that an account bag would reduce demand for multiple copies of the unlimited use tools.

The introduction of such a bag would require an increase in the tool price to offset the decreased demand.

I think the opposite is true, and I think ANet realise this. Infinite tools used to be soulbound, and people argued that being account bound would make them less in demand. On the contrary, people just didn’t buy the soulbound versions because they weren’t worth it. Account bound tools are better, but still people hold off because they are too much hassle.

ANet have more data on this, so I am only speculating. The question is, do the people who buy multiple copies of tools buy enough to counter the number of people who would buy one copy that all their characters can use.

The additional question is whether making customers feel like they’re being valued and given a good deal, and the positive word of mouth that encourages, is worth any slight loss in sales of that specific item.

To me, an account wide bag (I think 4-6 slots is fair) for a reasonable amount of gems or even free, with additional account wide slots available in the gem store would bring in a HUGE amount of money, and would lead to the sale of more things like gathering tools, instruments and minis etc. that people would put in those slots.

You are leaving out the part where they already raised the price of the tools because they knew that demand would decrease.

They would have to raise the price again in order to offset the lost revenue that comes along with making swapping the tools super easy.

Why the current sword needs polishing

in Ranger

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

Right now they do have clear roles. Sword is better for single targets and has a cripple (and pet might), greatsword is better for multiple targets and has the evade.

I don’t think they clash with each other at all, but if you put an evade on the sword, the GS loses half of its identity.

For PvE, you use sword because you are fighting single targets (bosses) or small groups of 1-3 mobs and it is the best DPS.

For PvP, you use sword because it brings the utility needed to compete.

For WvW, you use sword for the utility while roaming and greatsword for fighting a zerg.

So no, we don’t have clear roles for our weapons. We use the same weapon for all content because the rest of them suck at everything else.

Every class gets pigeon holed into a “best weapon” for specific content. We get pigeon holed into a “best weapon” for all content which causes these threads to show up because PvE players want one thing out of our only weapon, PvP players want something else, and WvW players have a different opinion.

I’d prefer that the greatsword loses it’s evade and gets a hefty DPS boost to become our primary PvE DPS power weapon (even if that means reducing cleaves). That way the sword can get the evade tacked into the chain further cementing it as the go to PvP weapon (and cutting down on the nonsensical requirement that auto attack be turned off in order to be functional).

Basically, every class is given a toolbox with hammers, screwdrivers, drills, rulers, and saws so that they can pick the best tool for each type of content. Rangers are given a metric socket set even though everything uses only 5/16ths.

Why the current sword needs polishing

in Ranger

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

You can’t put an evade on the sword autoattack or the greatsword suffers. Even if you balanced out the numbers, it would make them basically the same weapon.

On that note, if you’re fighting a group of more than about 7 people, I think the greatsword is always the better choice. Unless you’re zerg-surfing with a longbow, then sword is probably better.

Like I said, they are making us Rangers fight with each other because they couldn’t properly design roles for each weapon leaving us with one weapon that is best for everything (while not being great for anything either). PvEers want the weapon to lose it’s utility because that makes it annoying to use in PvE while PvP/WvWers obviously want to retain the utility because that is what makes it our best PvP/WvW weapon.

As I mentioned in the CDI, we need clear roles for each weapon.

Why the current sword needs polishing

in Ranger

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

I think the simplest fix they could do for Ranger Sword #1 chain (from a PvE perspective) is to move the useless evade from #2’s Hornet Sting (since the skill firing time seems to vary fairly significantly as it will not interrupt the #1 chain) to Pounce (the leap part of Sword #1). Combined with a fix that makes Dodge override any other action (which is how the game should function), I think we’d see Sword’s functionality increase in PvE.

The big problem is that Sword is currently both the highest DPS option (making it the required weapon for PvE) and the best PvP/WvW weapon. As these content types conflict in what they find useful and how they play the game, forcing all of them to use the same weapon will obviously create heated arguments on the forums about how to “fix” the weapon. ArenaNet really botched the Ranger skill implementation in that regard.

Most of the money available via “flipping” comes from buying an item and converting it into a more valuable item.

This is done by either crafting with, opening, or salvaging the item you bought.

There are rarely opportunities to buy low and sell high with the same item because they are usually very obviously and thus quickly get too much competition and the profit margin evaporates.

Is it legit to use mouse macros?

Hy,

Today a friend suggested to me in a Queen’s Pavilon run where I tried to get in his megaserver to use some kind of macros which would somehow help, but I’m not enterly sure if its fine to use. He said its only a macro what clicks instead of me but I dont wanna get into any trouble, so I thought I’d ask first o.o

Effectively, Macros are only permitted if they function as a key rebind.

For example, a macro that lets you press “ctrl+1” to execute “6” would be allowed because it is just a rebind (a useful one if you don’t like having to press 6-0 to reach the far skills on your bar and prefer to hit 1-5 and ctrl+1-5).

If you have a Macro that lets you press a key and then it fires off multiple executions (like 1, then a wait, then 2, then a wait, then move here, then 6, etc.) it is strictly banned. Even a macro that says things in chat (like press “u” and say “/s Help Me Obi-Wan”) is banned because it executes multiple keystrokes (each letter).

Not necessarily. The wardrobe update guaranteed that no one would ever want more than 1 copy of an outfit and they didn’t raise the prices of them when that came out. In fact they offered refunds to anyone who had more than one, or anyone who didn’t like the way they worked after the change and some of them have been on sale since then.

Having said that I can’t see them adding account bound bags, just because as everyone else pointed out the benefits are relatively minimal so it’s probably not worth the time and effort to program when the people involved could be doing something else instead.

The Wardrobe feature probably increased revenue though by increasing demand for Transmutation Charges and may have also increased the number of Gem Store skin transactions now that they are more “valuable” (i.e. it is possible that by making the skins accountwide, more people are interested in buying skins which may have offset the number of people who no longer need to buy multiples of the same skin).

That’s just as ridiculous as saying “houses are based on hammers”.

You are really grasping here…

What? You directly contradict yourself then say I’m grasping at straws? That’s funny!

If you perceive a contradiction, despite my correcting your incorrect perception, then I suppose I have nothing left to say to one such as yourself. Casting pearls, etc.

given what you are saying there is no advantage to this system over having items in specific content, as long as its sellable.
you would actually have an extra option.

1) option earn gold, buy item
2)option play specific content get item

GW2 currently is
1) earn gold buy item.

i think more options is better than one.

also the game is telling you mathematically that you are doing it wrong if you are not doing the most effecient method. So like i said, you can choose to ignore the rewards and the reward system if you want to enjoy yourself
the only point of a reward system where you do the things you dont like in order to succeed is good, is if somehow doing the things you dont like benefit the game as a whole more. Thats not the case here. In fact there are many negatives associated with most of the best gold earning metas.

I never said I was opposed to having specific rewards drop from specific content, I was just pointing out that you can currently access any rewards (with a few minor exceptions) by playing only the content you like. Sure, sometimes the stuff you like doing is not the fastest way, but if you are having fun then why do you need to do it quickly?

ill say it again, this is simply not true, it would be true if all content rewarded gold similarly, but this is far from the case.

Also, just because a game gives better rewards through focused play doesnt mean its not sellable/tradeable. That is the type of system where gold would actually be players exchanging value for what type of content they are playing. GW2 doesnt do that because it doesnt have a system where the majority of drops are focused drops. a signifigant amount of supply is generally unintentionally created.

This means that you are forced to play the best gold earning content, or not get the stuff you want, which is essentially the same as other games.

The payout need not be equal for my statement to be perfectly true. You are not forced to do anything you don’t want to do, you are CHOOSING to do things you don’t like in order to achieve rewards faster and BLAMING the system for your poor selection of content.

What you have, is a personal problem, not a game problem.

There will always be people who play for the excitement of the gamble, and those people will continue to provide the tickets needed to supply the market with skins to buy. Let me correct this for you.
Your doing the Boss train, traveling around.
WP A was a lie so WP B, also contested, is a lie and you end up at WP C.
There is no way you can get back to WP A where the event is before the Boss melts away to the Zerg.

You lost the cost of traveling.
You lost the reward from the event.
Did you die trying to get there? (Megedestroyer comes to mind)
Travel cost again to repair.
Did it make you late again? Lost reward.

Apply the concept to what players actually do and this thread wont seem so funny.

If you are not able to get to the event after the patch, then you also would not be able to get to the event before the patch.

So no, you didn’t correct me, you further showed that you don’t understand what is happening pre versus post patch.

Before the patch, WP A & B were ALWAYS shown as contested meaning you ALWAYS had to go to WP C and then either run or pay an extra WP fee to get to WP A.

After the patch, WP A & B will NEVER show as contested, meaning you will go to WP A, B, or C depending on the contested status of the WPs at the time you decide to use them.

In absolutely no case will the new system be worse than the pre patch system, it can only be better (A. or B.) or the same (C.).

I’m concerned that a lot of players will look at this as simple robbery?

I think you should probably reread the patch notes and consider how the game was operating prior to the change.

This patch actually SAVES the playerbase coins.

Before patch: Want to go to Map A, WP A but it always shows as contested so you have to go to Map A, WP B first (spend 2s) and then go to Map A, WP A (another 2s) for a total cost of 4s.

After patch: Want to go to Map A, WP A. One of two things happens:
1. You arrive at WP A (spend 2s).
2. WP A is contested so you arrive at WP B (spend 2s) and walk to WP A.

Okay then why is GW2 known for poor rewards and the others are not?

A perception arises (at least for me) participating in certain content for a certain reward verses participating in any content for the same reward. Players are well known to try and become efficient as possible in their endeavors. This results in the former certain grind content for a certain reward being somewhat acceptable. The latter results in most content being inefficient grind since all content leads to the same objective. So most all content feels unrewarding since players know they could be more efficient doing something else with their time.

That’s because our expectations and perceptions have been formed by decades of previous MMOs who had to design content that kept you paying them every month. They set the status quo and everyone is familiar with the status quo so today, instead of playing for fun, we are trained to play for rewards.

It’s problem b/c this game is known for having poor reward structure. JS doesn’t seem to understand why that is so (which is evident when he circles back to the macro economy in every discussion regarding rewards).

Anet acknowledges there is a reward issue. That is why they are “working” on it.

This game is accused of having a “poor reward structure” by players who don’t understand that it has the best reward structure.

In most MMOs, you have to grind Activity A to get Reward A. Doesn’t matter if you hate Activity A, you still have to grind it for hours upon hours to get Reward A. If you also want Reward B, then you have to grind hours upon hours of Activity B, which you can’t do at the same time as Activity A.

In GW2, you have ability to only play the content you like and buy the rewards you like. This means that I can do Activity B and get Reward A and Reward B and never have to touch Activity A.

The reward system in this game is superior to other MMOs because it lets you choose what content you want to do instead of shackling you to a grind you don’t enjoy.

“In the feature pack, we will be unifying daily and monthly achievements. With new systems like the Wardrobe, Gear Unification, and Reward Tracks coming online to help create a consistent experience across different areas of the game, we felt that having separate daily and monthly achievement categories was unnecessary and potentially confusing…The PvP and PvE daily and monthly achievements will be merged. There will be enough achievements that you will be able to complete your dailies and monthlies entirely in PvE, WvW, or PvP if you like – but you can also dabble in different game modes and complete your achievements by playing a mix of content.”

I believe this is why they were merged.

I’m of the opinion that Laurels will be getting a boost in value soon cough Precursor crafting cough and they wanted to cut back on access to them.

People run through dungeons because killing the mobs inside the dungeon is typically a waste of time in terms of time/reward ratio.

A well-designed dungeon does not have content that gets skipped.

In GW2, you can’t blame people for taking the efficient route and skipping most of the content, they are doing the thing that makes the most sense. You blame the poor dungeon design that allows skipping to be more rewarding than fighting your way through.

I do think that “kick for any reason” is a horrific system because it permits kick abuse. That said, the alternative is “kick for only these valid reasons, one of which will get picked regardless of the truth forcing ArenaNet to spend time reviewing he-said-she-said tickets to determine if the kick was legitimate or a violation of the valid reasons list”.

It’s a lose lose scenario for any game company and it makes me wonder why they even continue to allow kicking. It would be much less of a headache to drop the kick (pun intended) feature and leave it up to the offended players to leave the party.

Granted, this is coming from a guy who has voted to kick a single time in the last 15 years of online gaming, so my opinion certainly won’t be shared by those who are more prone to kick others.

I don’t really know about fancy indicators and bizarre definitions, but 12 months ago if you could make 5g/hr you were at the top of the farming game, and doing well.

Today you would get laughed at if you were only making 5g/hr and considered that good. Usually people expect 8-10g/hr playing the game now and some people claim up to 15g/hr. So the amount of money you make is certainly much higher then it was a year ago, not sure what that says about inflation.

That in and of itself says nothing about inflation, but rather the rate at which gold supply enters the economy.

Gold supply can impact inflation if it is not offset with appropriate gold sinks.

I think what he’s saying is why does it matter if there’s inflation. Dusk sell for 700 but everyone makes 5 gold/hour. Dusk sell for 1400 but everyone makes 10 gold/hour. That’s the same thing right?

Not taking account into item hoarder or gold hoarder, the amount of time to acquire an item is the same.

If earnings increase at the same rate as prices, you don’t have a personal reduction in buying power so while there would be “inflation” in the sense that 1 gold is worth less, there wouldn’t be any negative impact on the players because now they can earn 2 gold in the time it took to earn 1 gold before.

The problem is when Dusk goes from 700 to 1400 but everyone’s earnings go from 5 to 8 gold/hour because now it takes longer to buy Dusk.

@ Seraphina, it’s why I mentioned that if he thinks there’s no inflation, he’s probably a bad econimist. I didn’t mean to say he is one. I’m pretty sure he knows there’s inflation, (and thus isn’t a bad economist). But hi sentence (last post) is so double-edged, that it can range from ‘gw2 has no inflation’, to ‘gw2 has severe inflation but still a bit behind worst mmo’s. Hence my double-edged answer.

I think the gist of John’s post is that inflation is not a problem in GW2.

I am sorry to say this but “Short and sweet: If you think inflation is a major issue in Guild Wars 2, you should do more research on MMO economies and general economics.” is more like an insult rather than an actual attempt to explain his opinion on the matter (and this is not his first post in this manner). This sentence is on the level of the arguments of children. If this is the kind answer and manner one can expect from an ANet employee than why do forum posters are reminded every time by ANet that we should give constructive feedback and be respectful. There is even a posting guideline for us. I can adhere to the guideline but in exchange I expect the same treatment from ANet towards me. Without mutual respect there cannot be good communication between the company and its customers.

Some posters in these forums have lost their “mutual respect” privileges for being intentionally uninformed despite receiving direct answers that would have corrected their uninformed status.

When you see the same people saying the same wrong things all the time, you no longer respect them and your posts reflect that.

Most of the stuff I see on here is just “You suck this sucks everything sucks because I can’t make a fortune MY way” Etc.

You just summed up the entertaining half of the BLTC forum.
The other half is very informative and helpful, but less animated and humorous.

I don’t recall, did ArenaNet ever take action against the Battle of Lion’s Arch AFKers?

If so, then you are safe to report suspected AFK leechers.
If not, then you probably ought not report as you may be at risk for action against your account for false reports.
