I think the OP just said everything in their mind in the first post.
Ele just needs a different role. For the last year, it was basically a brain dead class where you could just sit on point and self sustain for a really long time. Personally, I will be happy to see it go away. I’d much rather see ele as a range dps class that can provide team support.
Wrong. They have to let the meta settle and people enjoy playing their builds and fine tuning them. Nobody wants regular changes. 6 months is fine for an mmo

I’m definitely really hoping that bunker mesmer does in fact die. It is a build that takes minimal skill to play and allowed many people to cheese season 1 of the league.
That said, we don’t know all the changes, so everyone complaining about one class being OP or another being UP is premature.
At the very least you could buff eles to the 15k category.

Yes, DH needs help, but it also needs more counter to the traps. One example is that trap cooldown should start once triggered, not when it is placed.

Since the game was released, the only defense/sustain eles had were their boons and celestial stats. Now boons will be ripped every few seconds by necros and the cele stats are gone.
Yet eles still don’t get actual active defenses like ALL other classes have (blocks, evades, etc.) and the scepter “buffs” are a slap in the face.
The Diamond Skin change is dumb too of course, it should have been ACTIVE condi removal, like Cleansing Water, which is what ever ele now again will use for condi removal because WE HAVE NO OTHER WORTHWHILE CONDI REMOVAL.
tldr; We’ve been unkillable on point for a long time. Please don’t make us more balanced.

Lol thieves hard counter Necros. Only class I never have a problem fighting. Our evades cure the chill u guys spit out. We can easily kite Necros too when they are in shroud form. And as soon as that shroud goes away, boom burst. Dont get me wrong, Necro is strong and will be in the next meta but It’s really a fight of fastest profession vs slowest profession.
Thieves don’t hard counter anyone right now. If you are losing to a thief, it is just how you play against them. On a positive note, necros will be even stronger after the next patch so you;ll have an even better chance
Druid definitely needs a sustain nerf. Let’s hope there are other items in the patch notes to address it

What sort of requirements would there be? You do have to win A lot. And maintaining a win streak can be hard for some.
Q with parties, get matched against solo players, profit.
1. Queue with a party
2. Ensure your party is running multiple bunker mesmer and at least 1 rev
3. If you don’t know how to rotate in conquest, use cheese to win stronghold instead.
The more of these threads, the more funny I find it. Every class thinks their class will be the worst. None of you even know the full list of changes. At least know what you are talking about prior to whining.

I’d say new warrior. Thief was semi-viable.
That being said, with the come back of our necro overlords and the supression of celestial and sentinel amulets, teams could need additional condition removal, so we might see eles with healing power amulets acting as “bunkers” in the new meta. Well see.
A lot of you complain too much. Ele will be reeeeally good, especially with some of the new amulets.
One comment on the refund, etc. I am happy to see this. I also think that ALL amulets, runes, and sigils should be free. The beauty of PvP is that everyone can be equal. Putting up a paywall doesn’t make sense.

Give it week 1 of Season 2 and it will be “This is no fun… I just die in 2 seconds constantly to this <insert burst spec here>, wish I could build more defensive”
They removed some bunker amulets and added new ones. Defense is also most traitline based for a lot of classes.

The problem is not the damage. The problem is the nothing dies problem. bunker mesmer needs a big nerf as does ele sustain. Revenant also needs some big nerfs.
PIPS needs to be adjusted. I suggest the following:
First: ANET needs to implement logic that NEVER allows premades of 3, 4, or 5 to face groups of 5 pugs. It should never happen.
Second: There needs to be two parts to pips: the premade component and the match prediction. It should work like this:
Team 1: 5 pugs
Team 2: 1 duo que + 3 pugs
Match prediction: Team 2 will win a close game.
Actual result: Team 2 wins a close game
Team 1: Receives zero pips. (-1 for losing and +1 for facing a duo quo)
Team 2: Receives 1 pip (for winning
Sigh. More people doing the cheese turtle strategy.

Stronghold is fine in ranked. It’s a different game mode, so requires different builds, and more communication among a team. So yes, people who don’t understand the mode are going to do poorly. That doesn’t mean it should be taken out.
And it’s far more interesting than conquest bunker nonsense.

Yeah, I know plenty of people who used bunker Mesmer and condi rev in conquest at first. When those got their minor nerfs, those cheesers just went over to stronghold instead.
Legendary means nothing in season 1. Let’s hope it is improved for season 2.
Also, stronghold either needs a big revamp or it needs to be removed from ranked queue.
A better solution is that match prediction should also be based on the highest party team member. So 4 amber + 1 legendary would be roughly the same kitten legendary.
@OP: Translation: If chronomancer is nerfed, we need another broken spec to replace it. After all, there are a lot of legendaries who got there based on the broken bunker spec. What will they do in season 2?

he was never good but now that thief punishes you for not being anything other than great on it, he retreats to the most overrewarding spec in the game. not a fan of someone who embodies fairweather imbalance chasers.

Remember, the WvW team typically makes the wrong decisions about everything. They’ve been wrong with just about everything in the last 2 years.
So, based on that, figure out the worst possible format. For me, it is something that is either EotM focused or something that is alliance focused. Since those ideas are horrible, my bet is for something like that to happen.
I don’t understand why ANET doesn’t just return the alpine map for now. When the larger WvW overhaul is ready, then revisit the new map and see if it makes sense.

Probably beat a bunch of exploiters, stronghold farmers (optimal strategy is solved so it’s easy to cheese vs pugs) or people with bad MMR to begin with. Matchmaking took both league and MMR into account so if you had low MMR you’d face others in a lower pool, just it’d be lower pool plus division.

Good. I’m glad they changed it. Season 1 was broken with too many people using bunker mesmer/condi rev to climb the ladder. When that didn’t work, those same people went to stronghold to cheese.
Good thing season 1 ends soon and hopefully season2 will be better.
The change to long queue times went out last night, so this is the result of that. The search range is clearly expanding too much, so we’ll reconfigure it to be a tighter search again.
What is taking so long change matchmaking so that a group of 5 pugs is NEVER matched with a premade of 3, 4, or 5?

Don’t worry about it. No one who knows the game really takes the titles too seriously this season. It is easy to cheese to legendary. Hopefully season 2 will be better.

Guild Wars 2 PvP (whether stronghold, conquest, or WvW) and Chess have their own systems. Guild Wars 2 PvP isn’t balanced as far as classes go but if everyone takes two revs, two mesmers, and an elementalist isn’t that balanced? Lots of things need balancing in this game and people are doing what’s best, and what’s best is determined by the game’s internal systems. A damage or cooldown adjustment may even radically alter what’s considered optimal.

I have a problem with how the map’s mechanics allow that kind of play (and be optimal too) but people use those comps because it maximizes winning chances.
and that’s why both mesmer and revs need a nerf bat next balance update. Likewise, stronghold as a map needs to either be removed from ranked queue or it needs a serious revamp. A gamemode that allows you to win with minimal player fighting does not belong in PvP.
Thoughts overall:
Quickness/slowness res change: Yes!!! Great move. Much needed.
General thoughts: Core specs need adjustment. Elite specs are mandatory right now and that isn’t good.
Ele: The class has too much self sustain. It needs to be toned down
Engineer: Damage level is fine. Survivability is probably ok once the bunker meta goes away.
Guardian: I’d like to see a buff to the old bunker guardian. I’d also like to see a change in trap timers. Timers should start on activation, not on when the trap is set. I’d also like to see some counterplay to the dragon’s maw trap.
Mesmer: Where to start? This class needs a huge nerf bat. The sustain is way too strong. The alacrity change is good.
Necro: This class does NOT need reaper shroud buffs. I am glad to see that you are buffing regular death shroud.
Ranger: Way too much self sustain. I’d like to see an even greater tie between healing power and various healing skills. Pets also need to be fixed so that they don’t insta kill someone.
Rev: Almost as bad as the mesmer. Shino quickness needs a nerf, and unrelenting assault needs a range limit. Right now there is no counterplay to it.
Thief: I like the auto attack buff as long as it is only on dagger and staff. Do not buff sword auto attacks. In addition, I’d remove the evade from staff 5. Essentially make thieves a killing machine that cannot stay in a fight for long.
Warrior: Beserker needs a complete overhaul. It is bad in all game modes. Warriors definitely needs some buffs, but no more passive invulnerabilities please!
You aren’t looking at this through the eyes of a cold, emotionless, money loving producer.
When you make players suffer through playing a new profession to grind out these wins, they spend more time playing the game, more time looking at gem store items, and it helps “class variety” because in your data more people are playing different classes. Game has variety and balance because people are playing a multitude of classes! The game is beloved because people are spending time on it!
This isn’t about “fun” or “trying to master your class”, or any of that crap. That’s not what game development is about, guys.
They could have the same effect by just tripling the number of profession wins needed. Ultimately, you are still limited by needing to win a certain number of games.
The gold star doesn’t mean anything anyway in season 1. Sure, there are a lot of legitimate players, but there are also a lot of people who got there by abusing bunker mesmer, condi rev, and stronghold
Yes, there are broken specs in conquest. Hopefully ANET is addressing that.
Stronghold though can be won with minimal player fights and is mostly about the NPCs. It doesn’t belong in a competitive PvP match. Again, people who want to play it can play it in unranked. It shouldn’t be part of a PvP season though.
My thoughts:
The good:
1. No increased levels. I’m glad about that.
2. One frac level per run. I didn’t want to have to do 4 fractals in a row. I like that I can just do one now.
3. Rev. This is a class fun, although not balanced.
The bad:
1. WvW – This was a disaster. It should never have been implemented. Whoever is running the WvW team needs to be replaced.
2. PvP Leagues: These were not thought through at all.
3 Class Balance: Possibly the worst that it has been in the history of the game.
4. Masteries: Some are interesting, but as you earn them, they actually take fun away from the game. It is crazy that by gaining masteries the game gets more boring. Instead, masteries should be required for certain areas of the map. Just poorly implemented.
5. The story: It’s like whoever wrote the story lost all creativity.
The worst argument ever, since LoL has big enough population to allow soloQ and groupQ in oneQ and solo will still be paired vs solo and team vs team…
If what you say is true then the there is zero reason for them to have merged solo and team q.
But they did merge them, which means they had good reasons.
No they don’t. They did it to try to get people to team queue instead. That goal failed and now they have a broken matchmaking system.

the truth is no one wants a thief on their team. Why? The class is weak and there never really were many good thieves to begin with. I’m finding that whenever I have a thief on my team, about 80% of the time we lose. Coincidence? No.
Why on Earth would you want to remove the OPTION to do ranked Stronghold games?
If you’re solo queuing just uncheck the box for Stronghold. Suddenly the premades can’t “cheese” the game for easy wins anymore.
Because the two game modes share the same league system. Why should someone who cheeses stronghold be considered legendary?
