The issue is the types of people who are stuck in Ruby.

In low levels, people are just learning their role.

In Ruby, people know what each role is supposed to do and ONLY play their role the way it is supposed to be played and expect others to do the same

In Diamond/Legend, people know what each role is supposed to do but adapt to what the rest of their team is doing and are flexible as needed in order to win.

This is wrong though. ANYONE cannot immediately join a raid. You should know that.

Yes they can… You can walk in with any character that can reach the door, there is zero attunement.

You are mixing up the attunement which locked people out of WS’s raiding with having the right attitude GW2’s raiding requires (I hope you aren’t doing this deliberately).

The reason WS had problems is people wanted to raid but were blocked by attunement, GW2 has no such problem.

Your comparison between the games is false.

You focus too much on attunement. The point is that you need content for EVERYONE. Raids are only popular for a small subset AND even most of them only raid once a week.

Building out dungeons or fractals are better since people can do those daily.

I focused on the raid related issue with WS, which is the topic you started…

Oh, I see the issue. You missed my point completely. I’m talking about a lack of non-hardcore PvE. That’s the current problem.

As I said originally, I have no issues with releasing raid content. I just want to see other stuff to do for people who don’t raid.

LS3 is taking forever, dungeons are dead, and fractals are just swamp.

There has been no real other content for almost 6 months. People would complain at a restaurant if they had to wait that long. That’s the point of this thread.

I’ll assume you are refering to post HoT release (which going by it’s October 23rd release was 4.5 months ago and not 6, but minor details). So let’s see what this no new content is:

- Squad UI, Legendary weapons, lots of bug fixing post release during November
- Pvp season 1 in december as well as fractal reward rework and more bug fixes and balancing
- shared inventory slots and major balance rework in January as well as, once again, more bug fixing
- Pvp season 2 launched in February

all this while still having the seasonal Halloween, Wintersday and Lunar events.

Yes, they did add 2 raid wings during this time and WvW is having issues since the new maps are not as popular as expected, which is getting addressed.

So when you are talking about no content, I’m not really sure what you are talking about. Content does not magically appear out of thin air, especially when your team has been working on releasing and adjusting the latest expansion to customer needs/demands. Then again, since a lot of people like bringing up players numbers interested in content, maybe arenanet should start focusing on pve only and let pvp out to dry, you know since the pvp playerbase is a minor fraction of the pve playerbase.

As someone mentioned earlier, if the fact that 6 devs out of 300 working on raid content is a bother to you, then I guess there is no reasoning with you.

The holiday events were just retreads from previous years. Were there any new events?
Shared inventory slots? You are counting gem store items as new content?
PvP is different. I’m focusing on PvE content

What’s the point of resetting MMR? If everyone starts at the same MMR the matchmaking would be the same as if ANET ONLY used pips to determine matchmaking. That would be a lot easier, but also would give a lot of bad matches.

I love GW2. Been playing since launch. I even love the HoT maps, masteries, etc. But boy is the game in a really sad state right now:

HoT maps – really tough to enjoy these incredible maps with the megaserver system in its current state. The last thing I want to do is actively search for a populated map. The megaserver system should automatically place me in the most populated map but it never does.

PvP – wow such a fun game mode in complete and utter disrepair with the current matchmaking system. I’m completely demoralized with the long losing streaks and I know I’m not as bad as the system makes me believe.

WvW – epic fights are gone in the frontier maps. nobody likes them. the only decent fights are at stonemist now and the wvw population seems dead.

Collections – love the system HATE HATE HATE the absolutely incredible grind

Fractals – swamp anyone?

So many great systems in place, but the implantation is so poorly done. I can’t think of any game mode that is fun at the moment. Maybe raids but my guild isn’t doing them. I used to give money to anet monthly. But I’ll be talking with my wallet until they get it together. ESO is now my MMO of choice and GW2 the backup. I hope anet gets it together.

Really true. I have a feeling ANET realizes it as well and that’s partly why you see the leadership change.

I still like the players in this game, still a great friendly bunch- more so than alot of other MMOs in my opinion, but otherwise I don’t find myself enjoying the game like I did before HoT release.
I feel like the new content is forced grind in order to get a reward, and it gets burnt out really fast when it isn’t changed up from time to time.
Something for more.. I hate to use the word elitist but, something that fits in several categories without being easy/boring gameplay for elitists, or too hard for casual players. I don’t know if that makes sense… but yea..

I feel the same. The game was fun before HoT. HoT was also fun for a 2-3 weeks and then I realized it was just a grind.

Not to mention that HoT also destroyed WvW.

it’s starting guys, only 2 people in my friends list logged in this evening i used to have more people logged in before AMA anouncement.

That’s because for most players, there is nothing to do. If you don’t enjoy raids, it has been boring. There is only so many times a person can do the HoT map events

I don’t understand why people get so worked up about this. They’re working on LS3. They’re working on the next expansion. In the meantime, they’re releasing raid wings. They have multiple projects going at any one time and they’re not all ready together. The raid is the focus at the moment…and that’s nothing to be bothered over.

This is like going to a restaurant and getting mad that another table got their food first. There’s nothing wrong with serving that table. The problem is when that’s the ONLY table being served.

Except it’s not. It’s just the only table being served at this moment. Relax; your food is on the way.

Now GW2 is following the same path. They are releasing new raid content which is of interest to a minority of the players, , and is mostly a once a week activity for most of those who actually do play it.

problem with this logic is that wildstar is not as old as gw2.

My point is that ANET has changed direction and focus of their game. It is beginning to switch the vision to be more like wildstar. That is not a good thing.

At first I was not going to bother responding to your critique but I believe there is some hope to get my point across so I posted. I will address you on a point by point basis

-Nobody has factual evidence on a scale to prove anything except someone who can data mine anet’s logs. What we can prove are only things based on our experiences in game.

-On meta builds: search and rescue druid as I briefly explained is not a build that can carry a team to force wins. resurrecting a bad player means hes going to die again faster than search and rescue gets used or you get countered while using search and rescue by good player. I will not go further in detail I am not writing a thesis on why res bot druid is bad. What I will say res bot druid not good because you get destroyed when outnumbered by competent players or in team fight if focused by ppl with ports. Resurrect druid will not make wins happen when you are behind. Where as a good Mesmer for example can make a win happen with a good portal play. A good elementalist on a team with no elementalist will increase the teams chance of winning if he can support mid and not let it get capped regardless of teammates deaths occurring the point stays decapped until it can be contested again into another fight. A druid not wasting utilities on SnR and not in clerics can force wins by being one of the best 1v1 builds thus forcing wins on side points and rotating in and out scoring points increasing likelihood your team wins.

-On point 3: People do not have low MMR for no reason. I will concede if it is true new players starting in low MMR and not some average number as bad design. Having low MMR means you do not meet the games expectations of you. You can get out of so called MMR hell in 1 of 2 ways. Team Q or play well enough to beat expectations unless someone can prove the expectation system is deeply flawed which I have yet to be shown. If a player can not do either then they will get stuck is that fair I think so is it fun no it is not and perhaps Anet should do something about it.

-On positive win ratios: This ties into being good enough to carry to some extent or not being dead weight to your team. If you are better than 50% of the population playing you should have more than 50% win ratio. Thus over time you will get needed wins to become a legend. if you are this good but not winning because of MMR system. You need to start performing above expectations in matches, score more points to be where you should, which is hopefully in a place where you are on the winning 50% of the population.

-It is pointless to keep blaming your team for losing under the current system. The system expects you to rise up out of the hellhole that is low ranks and be deciding factor in your team winning or to perform above expectations to get better teams.
-the world is not fair but in GW2 there is are underlying systems that generate what is perceived as unfair. Long time players do not have low MMR or negative win ratio for no good reason. So if you have low MMR you deserved it for not performing well enough. If MMR should be reset at new leagues is a different debate and maybe it should to make the game more fun for certain people. Unlike the world GW2 success is a much greater degree in the hands of an individual. As in playing builds with potential to swing games and make plays, performing better than expected, and gaining in skill.

-To address your points of deserving I will point out as much as I hate to Helseth is going to carry someone he found who believes he is skilled enough to rank up but hard done by the system on a brand new account (IE low MMR) while I will be the first to admit there are a few flaws in his methodology what it will at-least prove if you are good enough you will rank up because you deserve it and will earn it because you are a deciding factor in games and/or queuing with a good player is enough to rank up. On another point Helseth plays Mesmer a known good player and as I have stated before a good Mesmer can steal games. I am very sure He will succeed in ranking up his adopted player.

Nice point but there is such a thing as elo hell. One person can’t carry 4 bads players, you just can’t unless his opponent team is full of bads as well. Which is very unlikely in this meta. And as everyone as pointed, druids are meta. So kitten might explain why your anecdotal experience differs from the OP. But flat out saying there is no such thing as MMR hell is Def wrong and untrue.

You need to understand that at some point people match out on their own potential and will just blame bad matchmaking.

I would just like to see different start points, a slightly different stagger method.
Last Season Legend = Emerald T1 Start.
Last Season Diamond = Amber T4 Start.
Last Season Ruby = Amber T3 Start.
Last Season Sapphire = Amber T2 Start.
Last Season Emerald, Amber and Non Participants = Amber T1 Start.

Doesn’t give a huge advantage but it limits the starter match stompings that drove a lot of people away.

This type of system is the best approach. I wouldn’t make all those tiers though. Legend + Diamond = T3
Ruby = T2
Everyone else = T1

Participation bonus is a must!

How to win:

Don’t complain about the 3 enemy Reapers. Instead, learn Scrapper, Tempest, Reaper.

In other words, adapt to the enemy comp. Adapting is so difficult for most players unfortunately though.

Except reaper is hard counter for scrapper unless the reaper is bad.

When you are in the downstate and in stealth and the enemy is 80%+ health, why do you insist on auto attacks? Stop. Get the res. I see that nonstop in Ruby more than in any other division. I swear all the bads are in Ruby.

They measure success by how much time people are spending playing the game mode. So while you all complain about it, you are still playing. That means success in ANET’s world.

I’ve actually noticed that in a lot of cases people at Ruby are some of the worst players in the game. The reason is not their own personal skill, but they’ve grinded so much that they only know how to play one way. They can’t adapt to the flow of the game.

They won’t ever make it to Diamond.

Huh? No. Even if he was only 100 points, it is still the biggest PvE bonus of any of the maps.

A PvE event should NOT have that large of an effect on the overall game outcome.

The issue with this and with a lot of posts here is that there are NO hard and fast rules. Everything is situational. You need to rotate based on what the other team is doing. Teams must adapt and not try to follow some set of rules.

Pushing far at the start is also situational. A premade will almost always contest all 3 points. A pug team should either do it or not based on the team comp.

I actually agree that blocked players should not be on your team. They are blocked for a reason. Blocked players CAN appear on the other team though.

If I want to block 1000 people, that is fine. I just better not complain about longer queue times.

The Elder Dragons serve a purpose, they devour magic so it’s not flooding the world, not having something to regulate magic will have its own dire consequences.

My best guess is that something similar to the Kormir/Abaddon business will happen here, someone (or something) will take the place of the 2 dead dragons. The Egg is one obvious canditate, maybe the Player character will be another, far fetched but I think I reakittene spoiler about it somewhere on reddit, or even the Pale Tree after she recovers.

Wow. I sure hope the player won’t be taking on the magic. Sounds like another thing to level. We need masteries to actually be used, not some new energy collection scheme. It would be a really dumb move by ANET.

HoT made WvW horrible if you enjoy WvW for the fights. They created a new map where large scale fights aren’t really encouraged and instead added a bunch of PvE type stuff. Since you didn’t do personal story, I’m guessing a lot of that PvE isn’t your thing.

Sorry, but Thief is very viable in this Meta. Much more than last season. With my current build I can 1v1 any class, and I feel bad for reapers when I fight them 1v1. I have no hard counters, not even dh, which I will eventually beat 1v1, but it often takes too long.

You are mixing up the difference between the class and your own personal skill.

Thief as a class sucks. It currently only has a +1 role, meaning it gives the opposing team a +1 advantage.

Why would there be many posts on engi and druid when those are the 4th and 5th best classes in PvP? Rev, necro, and bunker ele are 1-3 in whichever order you want.
