No, because ANET is being stubborn. I would have thought that the season 1 failures would have taught them, but it takes some people longer than others to learn the same lessons.
What do you expect? A lot of people got to diamond playing premades with multiple condi revs + bunker mesmers.
Season 1 is basically a throwaway. Let’s see if the balance updates will help make season 2 more legitimate.
Almost threw my pc out of the window while reading this.
I will just consider this as a troll post.
On the troll train: mesmer portal also needs to get reworked.. because If you portal and there are some damage barriers in between the portals, you should also take damage.
Translation: I want my traps to have to do all the work so that I can just stand there.
So, when I see a legend I don’t know, I ask them their strategy. It’s almost always go cheese stronghold.
Why is this a competitive map? It is perfectly fine for unranked, but it is not a good mapped for anything ranked. It should be removed from ranked for season 2.
Why does every game mode besides WvW gets preferential treatment from Anet:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Upcoming-Changes-for-PvP-League-Season-2
Maybe you missed the holiday update post.
The way leagues are atm, it’s impossible for a casual player like myself to get the legendary backpack. The problem lies in part IV of the " Year of the Ascension" line. The achievement “league elite” requires you to pass 4 league division thresholds. That would require you to pass ruby tier which is impossible as the league pvp exists right now, for an admitted casual player.
.
That achievement doesn’t work the way you think. It is 4 incremental league thresholds. So for example, in part 2 of the year of ascension line, you need to cross 2 divisions. Since you will already have crossed Amber to Emerald, you now need to cross both both Emerald and Sapphire and be in Ruby to get that achievement.
Anyway, as others have said, the achievements carry over season to season. As long as you can make it to Ruby, you’ll be able to complete the backpiece by the end of season 3.
Can stronghold not give pips out anymore?
The imbalance between the amount of time for a game of conquest to end over a game of stronghold is absurd, and will have people gravitate to this being the next “pip farm” I just hope you guys have the foresight to see this before it becomes an issue.
This^^^^ It’s already the PIP farm. I knowing people who are legendary status by just farming this broken game mode with a premade.
Until you either:
1. Split SoloQ and TeamQ or;
2. Make it so you can’t lose PIPS against premades as a full solo teamthese changes are pointless.
I’d like to see some very simple logic added at a minimum. A group of 5 solo players should NEVER face premades of 3, 4, or 5 players.
Bad players will accuse you of cheesing while better players will say you aren’t cheesing hard enough. This observation spans any game.
A better solution I think would be rearranging the map so other players are forced to interact instead of both sides zerging to the others’ lord so mechanical skill plays a bigger role in winning.
Regardless of whether it is cheese or not enough cheese, the game mode should not be in ranked queue. It is not a competitive ready map. It should be in unranked only.
its your own choice whether to queue up for it in ranked or not…
Yes, although when it impacts the integrity of the league than it is a problem.

I’ve posted in other threads that I feel that party members should all take the mmr/division ranking of the highest played party member. I think this is a fantastic move ANET. I’m sure there are a lot of cheesers who are worried right now.
The other big change that I’d like to see for season 2 is to remove stronghold from ranked. It is way too much of a cheese map at this point. It is good for unranked, but is not a competitive map in any way.
So do I get to keep my Legendary badge for the next season?
Badges stay until the next season starts. So enjoy your badge during the current season and the time between seasons, but once the new season starts all badges will be reset.
ANET really needs to rethink this entire system. I don’t want to see PvP rank outside of heart of the mists. Make it more content specific:
1. In hearts of the mists, show PvP level
2. In PvE, show the mastery level
3. In WvW, show the WvW rank
I don’t care about someone’s PvP rank when I am in WvW and it is just screen clutter.
So your telling me people who solo q are still getting screwed over? Why not add a perk where solo q’ers get additional pips on wins. Solo q’ers are playing at a disadvantage due to unrealiable match making, so we deserve at least an incentive at the very least.
I can tell you 99% of the folks don’t care about rank, they only care about the backpiece. Reason they need to move up in rank is to get the rank cross achievement needed and tickets. Lower the requirements for the achievements as you’ve now made it harder to move up in ranks.
That is correct. ANET is still being incredibly stubborn about solo queue.
Wow. The matchmaking team has been able to pull off a rare feat. Long queues AND bad matchups at the same time.
This is because the players are causing this to happen.
Bad matchmaking and long queues are caused by high league players forming teams with low league players. This removes the low-league players from low-league queue and the high-league players from high-league queue.
The end result? Everyone playing is matched up against the Sapphire/Ruby tiers since 4 Diamond + 1 Amber = Sapphire/Ruby tier apparently.
Thus, super low queue times in the sapphire/ruby tiers and super high queue times in the amber/emerald and diamond/legendary tiers. If players stopped trying to game the system, queue times would be normal at the low and high leagues, and matchmaking wouldn’t be so terrible and random.
Anet needs to disable grouping with anyone that is a different league than you. Parties should be forced to all be the same league tier in order to queue.
At the moment, the problem is self perpetuating since once a group/player gets to a high-league tier, there’s no one to play against since all the other players are too busy exploiting (lowering their MMR), and so you’re left with high-queue times. The solution? Join in with the MMR abuse so you can play and keep matchmaking and queue times broken. The system WILL NOT fix itself.
Disagree with the solution. A better solution is that you can queue with anyone you want, although the MMR for the party takes on the MMR of the highest ranked player. So for example if a legend queues with an amber, they would both be considered legends from an MMR standpoint.
Not all thieves are bad though, i’d take the legend thief over the ambers everyday
They may not be bad, but they are less useful than other specs. The problem is that even before HoT, most thieves didn’t know how to play their class.
As for legend vs amber, if you are seeing both in matches, that is a whole different matchmaking problem.
Serious answer: You don’t burst right now unless you happen to find another complete squish on the other team. ANET has made it so that bunker builds still do good DPS, so the requirement of pure support builds (shout guardian, etc) or pure dps builds are not really needed.
I’m just happy to see ANET banning people who are using this or any hack.
Now I hope they fix the issue, work on balance problem and change leagues so that people can’t cheese to legend status on stronghold.
Wow. The matchmaking team has been able to pull off a rare feat. Long queues AND bad matchups at the same time.
and this is why no one takes the legendary title seriously. Most are just cheesers.
Simple way to tell: Do you know the person, or have you seen them on a really good team? Yes? They deserve it. Otherwise, they are most likely a cheeser.
So a friend of mine has lost something like 12 our of their last 13 matches. How is that even possible?
Can ANET please hire someone to do some actual matchmaking. The current system is a complete failure.
I just hope ANET gets player input in some way. Let’s face it. The WvW HoT changes were a disaster and most players would say that season one of the leagues weren’t set up very well.
We really need some player interaction at this point.
I don’t really have a problem wth the skill other than it shouldn’t have an unlimited attack distance once it is casted. There needs to be counterplay to the skill.
Just bring back Alpine. Test Desert BL for beta weekends. Or leave it for T1 servers.
It might of been a good concept. But it didn’t work out.
Please remember that we don’t need new WVW maps. Just need lag fixed. We come here for the fights, not the scenery.
Shouldn’t desert bl fit them lower tiers? It’s built for roaming.
It is horrible for roaming. Most of the time is looking around and not seeing any players.
Alpine borderlands was a much more fun map. I’d like to see it come back.
This is just another example of ANET not listening to players. How many times do they need to mess up before taking some advice. They’ve already wrecked WvW and PvP is only succeeding because PvE players are learning how to cheese their way to titles.
Anet said they would never make Dedicated Healing Classes/Specs.
Why did you create Druid…
They could always remove Raids if that will make you feel better.
Wrong forum, but raids shouldn’t be a reason to create a broken class in PvP.
As for raids themselves, designing it to require a heal spec is just a fail on the PvE team.
Agreed! At least D/D ele was mechanically interesting to play with its rotation and not downright impossible to kill… it just had too much sustain with it’s power and it was too easy to solo stack might..
You have a short memory.
D/D ele was more cancer than anything currently in the game, and it was way harder to kill than an auramancer, partly because of the stupid mobility it had and the fact that it actually was able to pressure you quite nicely so you couldn’t play so agressive.
But I mean, it’s Ele we’re talking about, so it’s always been aids, we’re just arguing about the level of aids it was at, of course.
At least he had to leave a point to survive and could be killed if on point.
Right now I feel like hitting a wall without success
As far as Ele always being Aids, I remember it was pretty bad before signet reworkI do miss my shatter mesmer :<
No need to worry. Ele has been OP for about 2 years and continues to be OP now with the auramancer. I’m willing to bet that will still be the case after the next failed balance patch.
I actually think having season 2 be solo queue only would be a good thing. Why not try it? It can’t be any worse than the disaster of season 1.
Or an easier solution: If you queue with others, everyone in your premade takes on the MMR of the highest ranked party member. That way if a legendary wants to queue with a amber, they can, but the MMR will be at the legendary level.
Season 1 has been a joke so far.
ANET really need to remove all the clutter on player names. Keep the PvP ranks in heart of the mists and remove it elsewhere.
Eles in general need a big adjustment. Their sustain to damage is out of alignment.
thief sucks
Life in emerald must be hard.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about if you don’t understand that warriors and thieves are currently bad.
Banners in general are a bad idea. Seriously, whoever is in charge of WvW at this point is completely clueless. At least they won’t be able to hide from the decline in players. Someone with a brain at ANET will notice at some point.
Here is the best possible advice for ANET:
Step 1: Take everything you added for HoT in WvW and remove it. It sucks. Literally it is horrible design.
Step 2: As part of step 1, add back in the alpine borderland maps
Step 3: Get a new WvW design lead. The current vision is terrible and I think your player stats will show it.
Step 4: Put a hold on this WvW redesign and get some player input. Not the PvE people but those in primary WvW guilds.
Do it. It isnt that hard.
Anet, do us a favor : fix this stuff and don’t touch anything for another week. What made you wake up today and think “i gotta mess this up”?
Because the ranger change was game breaking at least for pvp. It needed to be fixed. Not sure why the urgency for the mesmer fix.
The badges are the rewards themselves. They’re supposed to communicate, “I have this skill level in PvP.”
True except that unfortunately, it means more “I am smart and cheesed my way through the leagues”
they want to sell hot -> they make elites OP so people are forced to buy xpac if they want to have chance at leagues … gw2 is p2win, pretty simple really
So you are essentially saying Colin J lied?
I play thief too and get flamed all the time, sometimes before the game even starts by my own teammates. I try not to care and as long as I got a 50%+ win rate I know I’m doing well no matter what they’re saying lol. Believe in yourself!!!!
If you have a >50% win rate as a solo queuer, you are doing really well. If you are part of a team, then you want a win rate higher than that.
It is really two issues:
1. Broken balance: There isn’t really a need for skill with classes like bunker Mesmer, condi rev, auromancer, etc. Those are hard carries right now.
2. Getting to legendary isn’t hard if you cheese.
If you guys don’t think DH is good, you are just being biased.
@OP:
Yeah, there are plenty of cheesers who have gotten to diamond, but that doesn’t include everyone. No point in messaging everyone. It just makes you seem jealous.
You don’t want to play stronghold in ranked right now. You need to understand the history:
1. At the beginning of leagues a lot of people cheesed high division ranks running premades with multiple condi rev and bunker mesmers.
2. When those specs got tuned down a little bit, those same cheesers went to stronghold.
3. Now because of ANET’s inability to handle matchmaking, they get to pug stomp in stronghold and continue to march towards legendary.
Note: If the cheese team runs into another cheese team, don’t queue for a little bit and do something else. Come back later and face pugs again.
Yes, that is leagues. It is basically why I have zero respect for anyone who is in legendary unless they are a known name.
The biggest problem is that ANET doesn’t know the difference between a feature release and a balance patch. That is scary.
Why was this even a match? and please don’t tell me that the 2 emeralds arent highly ranked players on ftp accounts.
Because the person who does matchmaking still hasn’t figured out that premades of 3, 4, or 5 should never be matched against 5 pugs.
@OP:
Where is bunker Mesmer on your list? That is still the most broken spec in the game.
you need to understand one thing. ANET doesn’t care about balance. They don’t care about the fairness of the league system. They don’t care whether the leagues are set up correctly.
The only care about the total number of players who are taking part and the total time they are spending playing.
By their metric, I’m sure leagues are successful even if as a player it is a complete fail.
Stronghold definitely should not be in ranked.
Also, there should be no healing to any NPC outside of regen.
A non underwater version of raid on the Capricorn would be nice.
Actually the OP is correct. I know several people who have made legendary by doing the following:
1. Originally running multiple bunker mesmers/condi revs and going for premades every time.
When those specs were not as OP anymore:
2. Run the stronghold strategy.
They can’t rotate or play conquest without broken specs, but they are also legendary. Super smart at cheesing the game which is all the league measures
