It seems like people who play engi do not understand, or are not willing to admit, that engineer is currently the strongest class in the game. Is it OP? That is arguable either way. Is is the strongest? The only possible argument there is ele.

Engineer needs some fixing.

Turret engi is fine. Niche pick for solo queue, extremely ineffective in team queues.

The issue is that it is OP in every game other than well coordinated team matches. That applies to ALL hot join, ALL solo queue, and 75% of team queue. Remember that most team queue is just pug vs pug. If you play as part of a 5 person team, you don’t see that.

Engineers only need 2 changes:

1. Nerf to celestial. That will help with the ele problem as well
2. Nerf to turrets. While not effective in coordinated teams, they are OP in any uncoordinated game. That applies to ALL hot join, ALL solo queue, and 75% of team queue. Remember that most team queue is just pug as well.

I don’t think BG is overstacked. I think it is more that people are leaving WvW in general. From a TC perspective, we had larger queues in T3 2 years ago than we have in T1 right now. If you took today’s BG and put them against T1 from 2 years, ago, BG would be complaining about not having enough players.

As I mentioned, the issue is that people are leaving WvW. I believe the reasons are:
1. Stale gameplay: ANET has not done much for the game mode and people are bored. Worse, when ANET does make changes, it is not to the areas that need focus. For example, there have been discussions around the commander system for 2 years. When we finally get something, it is just colored tags. Really?

2. Seasons: This has created a mindset for people to play during tournaments and then ignore the game mode the rest of the time. There is no longer any reason for anyone but the most hardcore players to participate outside of seasons.

3. EotM: This took away the casual WvW players. While originally intended to be a place for people to play while in queue, it became the best karma train in the map. Why should a casual ever enter WvW when they can get so much better rewards in EotM?

Thief isn’t just for stealth skipping though, they have the highest dps in the game and that is made even better with elementalist ice bow equipped. Thief are also much more reliable on applying stealth and can stealth a party though long distances. Engineer can provide a decent amount of stealth at the start of a trash skip but they cannot do it midway like a thief can.

Stealth yes. Highest DPS? No way.

8. Nice joke…… I can’t believe you’re crying about mes. Mesmer is by far the weakest class in game and has been the weakest for a long time. Everybody in this game can shut down a mesmer. Reason #1 Everybody runs celestial, which means everybody is doing condi dmg. Mesmer has 0 condi removal and we’re forced to take decoy and blink because without those 2, [Reason #2]a thief will literally destroy the mesmer. You did good from 1-7, but when it came to mes you lacked the knowledge of the class and you didn’t provided any facts.

Sorry that I got too defensive, but everybody at the top lvl knows that mesmer is really weak atm. We have to outplay pretty much everybody to win. Also, our survivability is so bad, the only good thing we have atm is boon removal and portal. Those people saying mes is op clearly don’t know the mes class and are having a hard time spotting the real one. Clearly a L2P issue…

Yea, i’m aware of the state of Mesmer, but it’s not as bad as you’re making it sound.

It’s pretty bad actually, that’s why you don’t see many mesmers in tPvp.

Halloween & Wintersday Events

First, these are two of my favorite events of the year. I personally enjoy them more than the living story events.

That said, why was year one of the event, better than years 2 or 3? Next year for Halloween, can you bring back the mini dungeon? That was really fun and has been gone since. Let’s see some new stuff next year as well.

For Wintersday, year 1 was also way better. I liked seeing the toymaker visit each of the cities. That was a ton of fun. I get that not everyone can play at the same times. The solution to that can be your new chapter functionality allowing people to play any of the individual days at their convenience.

In solo queue, 1 person CAN be a game changer. Remember, in solo queue there is very little team communication. One smartly played bunker can win your team the match.

Or…… maybe EotM is not only more rewarding, it’s more fun too. Maybe players like and prefer to go into these short 3hr matches? Maybe players like and prefer the carefree fun of just fighting and not having the guilt and pressure associated with 24/7 PPT’ing?

Going to EotM for fights is like becoming anorexic in order to gain weight.

As others have mentioned, EotM is definitely popular. The reason is that it is the best karma train in the game. It is also the best place to level low level characters.

TBH, that actually sounds like both a pretty good argument and gameplay counter for removing AoE cap…

People complain about AOE condi spam now. I can’t even imagine how bad it would become if there was no AOE cap.

I like the idea of having people posted up in towers to defend. This may be a fun part of the WvW experience for some players, and having a need for defenders would allow people who enjoy this style of play to form organized groups/networks of their own that can work with commanders.

Not everyone thinks the zerg is the defining aspect of WvW. I’ve wanted Anet to do something that would promote taking on a more defensive style of play for a while and this may be a step in that direction.

What? Name one person who plays GW2 and their most fun moment is to just sit in a tower. That makes zero sense.

Some people do love to defend, and that is different than just randomly sitting in a tower. They enjoy the strategy of trying to defend when someone is attacking.

Horrible idea by ANET. This is just another example of dumbing down the game.

I enjoy running supply/sieging a place up/upgrading/keeping watch.

I also enjoy it, however without white swords you can lose it when you run supplies or checking on a camps upgrades.

Depending on the yak route, without the whites swords, a zerg can be halfway into the tower without you knowing it. This change FORCES people to sit in a tower. That’s why it is a bad idea.

Wait did you say 3 teams EU?
How is it that EU total higher viewership on twitch than NA when they have fewer teams?
Leaderboard top ranking page consists of 25 players, not even 25 people from EU made it.
GW2 consists of MILLIONS of players and only 15 players played in EU?
GW2 consists of MILLIONS of NA players and only 25 players NA?

You completely missed the point. 8 teams in the WTS qualifier is fine. The question was how many of those 8 actually played. Did all 8 play? Was it only 3 in EU and 5 in NA like I heard? For a tournament this large, you’d expect all 8 teams to be present.

I don’t think anyone except maybe you would say this tournament occurred according to plan.

one of the core tenets of the devs is “you should always be happy when another player comes to help”.

Then why don’t they remove rallying off of dead players in WvW, because that’s the biggest reason why organized groups don’t want inexperienced players or uplevels traveling with them and operate without a tag? And why are they talking about adding points-per-kill, which will make inexperienced players and uplevels a liability to their server?

Organized guilds still won’t want other people with them.

All thieves are cheesy in WvW no matter what the build. And I say this as someone who has a thief and uses it in WvW occasionally. And when I do, I am cheesy.

Don’t complain because you lose. Stay on topic.

As to the original question. Any spec works fine. It depends how you are trying to play.

I’m actually fine with the idea of siege disablers. It adds strategy to the game. That is a good thing.

The problem is with the implementation. I’d make one of two changes:

1. Reduce the effect duration by half
2. Keep the duration, but make the siege disabler require line of site and be single target.

Why are there so many 98 year old crusties on these forums. Everyone should be open to small changes here and there just to see how things play out and what we can learn from them. Will trying out one week of no white swords really kill everyone and their families? Will the world be set ablaze? Will we all instantly be impregnated? One or two weeks. Give it a try. Then give feedback.

I don’t need to jump off a bridge to know that it will kill me. Sometimes it is easy to predict the outcome.

That said, I think you missed the whole point of the conversation. Yes, it is a good idea to try new changes. It is NOT a good idea to implement bad ones. This is a horrible idea.

Is this abjured or good fights? Can’t really tell. Not sure the point of qualifiers if people just rebuild their team.

Yeah, it is unfortunate that there are so many DC. It has happened to me a few times the last couple of days as well.

Also to the rage quitter on blacklisted. No one likes when someone “pulls a posey” and rage quits. I personally believe that rage quitters should have their team immediately disqualified, and the individual should be banned from the next big tournament. It does not make for a good viewing situation and right now we need as many people watching these streams as possible.

Came back to play a lil bit GW2 yesterday… Rank 650 after winning 6 games losing 2.
Also, playing a profession I’ve never played before and spamming all the skills.
Shows how good I am compared to the PvP community. When I left my record was 49% losses, I’m now 50.29%. All good players leave or what? I shouldn’t be winning like the way I’m playing right now, especially being that its against people on the leaderboard.

Hi John,

thanks for listening to and considering our feedback and worries.
I think the suggested approach — experimenting and changing things now and then — is great for all of us. Some may feel like we’d be downgraded to being test dummies, but this is what we need right now: Collaboration between the designers, devs and us players, to find out which ideas only sound good on paper, what needs some fine-tuning and which things are worth keeping after all to make WvW a fun experience for most (if not all) players involved.
In my opinion you should set up the experimental changes for several weeks (especially regarding PpK, overall scoring, maybe new maps or map mechanics, etc) to let us players adjust.

(Just to name an example: During the first weeks many players were mad about the bloodlust buff changes and the added ruins — Today they provide great areas for small scale fights and give roamers even more things to contribute to the overall match (at least on Kodash). After all the ruins were a good change, which, today, most players accept or even use.)

There will be some nay-sayers, ofc… But let me say that I think those experiments will be fruitful and are welcomed by most of the WvW population. Please make sure to announce the experiments to all WvW players, but you may want to not name the ones you implement directly, so we don’t approach the stuff from a focus-tester’s view but experience them as we’d do if the game was released just then.

Wait, wait. You call that “dumbing down the game”? Sorry but no, this will do exactly the opposite thing. However – I dare any dev to try scouting a tower for an extended period of time, then say “well it was cool, I had fun”. This is just not gameplay. And they want to force it to people if they want to be able to defend any structures. Genuises. Freaking genuises. Hey, let me go all sarcastic on them:

“We know scouting is a chore – annoying, boring, not fun and expensive and there are barely any people with their right mind that would scout. That is why, we will FORCE people to scout. If they don’t want to put that hard effort, which will make them wish they were doing homework or watching paint dry, well duuuuuh, their server better join the karma train. This is a real war, serious business, and in real wars you do sentry duties, which aren’t fun. kitten fun!”

Huh? How can you argue that this change is anything other than dumbing down the game.

Commander: We need people to just sit in towers because we can’t read the map anymore
Players: Oh yay! Just what I wanted to do. Just sit in a tower and not play and be bored. So exciting.

1. Housing is boring to me. Guild halls on the other hand and more guild related activities would be fun
2. Maybe certain locations on certain maps. The issue is that the only people there would be those not good enough to kill people in WvW or PvP.

Sleep is what you do in game when you type /sleep. It isn’t needed anywhere else!

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Do I think Engi is over the top? Currently yes. That said, I think most of the issues are with celestial amulet. That is what needs the nerf. It would also help resolve the issue with eles.

The only engi spec that I’d purposely nerf is turret engi. It is just does too well against “uncoordinated” teams. Unfortunately that is true for all hot join, all solo queue, and over 85% of team queue. Remember, most team queue is just pug vs pug until you get to the top levels.

I like Spirit Watch, all they need to do is make the orb have special skills (lock out profession skills) like they did with the Orb of Power in WvW. It was already in the game so it wouldn’t be that hard to add.

Power Bolt- Release a burst of energy to damage your target.
Orb Strike- Hit your enemy with the Orb, stunning them.
Throw Orb- Throw the Orb towards your target, blinding targets that it passes through. It bursts, dazing enemies, and returns to you.
Radiant Armor- Grant Retaliation to nearby allies.

Balance Patch on Early November

These changes are minor class QoL changes implemented with the October patch tomorrow. They didn’t want to put anything massive in because the didn’t really want to possibly shake the current meta during tournament time with the tog/wts etc. The next actuall large patch will come in November with the feature patch.
Hopefully this trend of minor balance patches in between large feature patches continues.

That’s a really bad excuse. Good players will adapt.
