Match people of similar skill based on ACTUAL results. If a person has no actual results, start them at the bottom and let them work up. It isn’t that hard.

Rank is an indication of experience, and unless the person is a pro player that bought a new account to troll, a r80 will stomp a r20 much more than 50% of the time. The exceptions to this may be the people who are really r10 but exploited custom arena with birthday boosters back when it was bugged to get r80. Those are only a tiny portion of the population.

Wow. I can’t believe that someone is actually arguing that rank is more important than actual game ranked queue performance. I’m speechless.

A ranked only split would be good. But then they have to go all the way:

No more solo’s in teamq (like it used to be). In fact you should only allow full team rosters.
An incentive to team up (better reward structure + Automated tournament structure with an entry fee of X teamq wins).

But I think they’re afraid of the population issues (which we’ve seen has been the major problem in two years of gw2 pvp).

I don’t think you saw how the old system worked. There were a ton of solos in team queue. Why? Two reasons. 1. Avoid the horrible maps of skyhammer and spirit watch. 2. Better rewards

People always mix up Good with Easy. Cele Eles and Engies are very good at the moment, but they’re not actually that easy. They do have more to them than just spam skills and win, and this is obvious when you see a good ele/engie fight a bad ele/engie. Unfortunately at the moment the easier classes aren’t actually as effective.

I don’t think we should. The old system didn’t become decent in a single night. It took years to get there. The new system work better and you should give it time. If anything the problem itself lies somewhere else.

So you are essentially saying that the old system was good and the new system is not good yet. We should just hope that one day it might become better than the old system?

Here is a better idea: Let us use the system that works, and ANET can beta test new systems elsewhere.

What is sad is that solo queueing into team team in the old system gave me good matches 95% of the time. Now a good match is the exception.

I think this is about hot join. You cannot expect to ever see balance there. The entire intent of that game mode is for players to try new things. It doesn’t always take a full game to determine something is working or not working.

It works fine. You must get a kill while defending the point. Have you seen the 5 points for a kill plus 10 for defending? That’s what you need for the achievement.

More people are playing right now than before. Anet won’t even consider reverting back unless the number of people playing dropped substantially lower than where it was before the patch…

TL;DR Might as well stop making these kind of threads since it’s useless.

Awesome. Show these metrics that show all these new players. Oh, and let’s also compare the players now to a year ago while you are at it. Can’t wait to see.

When people went to borderlands to bring supplies, they got stuck to the EB queue for minutes. I suggest that people already in WvW, can move between maps better than people who are just starting their WvW session.

If you love the T1 wvw action you may want to check out JQ or BG which dont have queue’s as often. (From what it sounds from your post.)

As to Khal’s post, mm necro and pu mesmer aren’t really viable currently in PvP. The issues are currently d/d cele ele and rifle cele engi.

Your post doesn’t make any sense. Are you saying that ANET should allow the OP specs (cele ele, cele engi, cele warrior) to continue since there are other specs that aren’t OP when using it? If you don’t realize that cele is over the top on ele, engi, and warrior, I don’t know what to say.

That is not good at all. I used to be annoyed seeing people with win rates below 50% in the top 100. Now we see them throughout the board. This really needs a total revamp

This is a beta ladder, so please take it with a grain of salt. You’re only seeing one part of our plans, and while we do appreciate feedback do please keep that in mind.

You miss the point of why people didn’t like solo queue.

No, I don’t think I missed the point. This is why I clarified, I wasn’t trying to say players hated solo arena (outside what you mentioned). Again, the reasons I mentioned, which at best, are only summary of the team’s reasons. The two big ones (in my mind) were that 1) people wanted a place to play casually with friends, but in a more structured environment than hotjoin. 2) Players had valid criticism of the solo ladder, which would be true for nearly any ladder that is solo in nature because Gw2 PvP is a team game. This is why we shifted away from solo/team to unranked/ranked.

An unranked arena WAS a good idea. I personally enjoy playing there as long as I don’t get spirit watch, skyhammer, or courtyard (alt-f4 is a good way to avoid those). I’m actually ok with the solo queue and team queue being merged as long as 85 percent of my matches are 5 pugs vs 5 pugs. I am NOT ok with it if 50% of the time I am playing people who have queued together.

I’m glad you feel it was a good choice. I’m sorry you’re getting maps you don’t like, but I am happy that people that enjoy those maps still get to play them, all be it rarely. That is not cool that you’re ditching your team just because you didn’t get the map you wanted.

I can look up your account if you want, though most the time people end up surprised the data doesn’t match their perceptions. I really think we should start showing more data to help with this, but I understand the reasons we don’t.

Looking up my account wouldn’t really help, since I use a variety of them depending on what I want to do in-game.

As for leaving matches, I don’t leave matches mid-way. I will however leave a match before it starts if I get a horrible map. Remember the key here. It is about having fun. Those maps are not fun. I think the feelings of skyhammer have been pretty well established on the forums.

That is so unbelievably selfish that it basically amounts to trolling and you should have your account suspended.

The whole point of the map selection is that it is fair. If 1/10th the people want to skyhammer they get to play it 1/10th the time it is available.

Everyone have different opinions. How would you like it if people hated legacy and just left everytime that map came up.

As long as there is one location without those maps, I am happy. Right now they aren’t in ranked queue. Good. The fact is that MORE people should leave. Apparently that is the only way that ANET would take notice.

I have finally come around to the truth that you can’t discourage mediocre players from zerging together. The “baddie light bulb” turns on and the moths gather.

Though I actually really like the new changes, roaming skill groups have more incentive to help their server.

lol. Who plays WvW for ppt? Go play Risk if you want an objective based game.
Stop worrying about White Swords n stuff. Hit up your closest Enemy Commander. Ask for some fights. Fight said fights. ENJOY GUILD WARS 2. Revel in the lag, loot bags and the feeling of power over said enemy commander when you /sit on his/her corpse.

If you don’t play for PPT at all, there is a great map for you called EotM. Try it.

As for WvW, it is, and always has been, a combination of PPT, open field fights, and small roaming groups.

The only thing this change does it make everyone more offense focused. NO ONE wants to just sit in towers all day long. That is boring. It has also killed the concept of a roaming scout, or someone who escorts dolyaks. A T3 can now be capped quickly with no notice.

Essentially, this change is great for anyone who wants WvW to turn into EotM. It is horrible for anyone who wants a bit more strategy.

Wait, where was the player demand to remove solo queue? When people were asking for solo queue, almost half the threads touched on the subject. As far as I saw, the only major complaints about solo queue were about Skyhammer and Spirit Watch.

I think this new system can work, but I don’t buy that people were clamoring for the removal of solo queue.

Anyway, the rest of your post matches my experience. Most of my matches are reasonably close. But every few games, I get a total disaster.

To clarify, the player demand was more for an unranked arena where they could play with friends and other people casually in a way more structured way than hot-join. There was also valid criticism about the validity of the solo ladder. So we felt unranked and ranked was a better split than solo and team.

I think this was a good move, especially because I believe we can have solos and pre-mades in the same queue with out compromising. I wasn’t expecting to deliver perfection on day one, so will keep trying.

You are missing 3 key points here.

1. The old leaderboard was definitely bad. Unfortunately, the new one is even worse. It essentially measures who plays the most. That is not good at all. I used to be annoyed seeing people with win rates below 50% in the top 100. Now we see them throughout the board. This really needs a total revamp
2. You miss the point of why people didn’t like solo queue. The issue with it is that we were forced to play the really bad maps. Only a select few enjoy spirit watch/skyhammer. You are still forcing them on people in this new model. Even worse, you are forcing them on ranked queue except during this test ladder. Again, a bad decision.
3. An unranked arena WAS a good idea. I personally enjoy playing there as long as I don’t get spirit watch, skyhammer, or courtyard (alt-f4 is a good way to avoid those). That is pretty much what it all comes down to. This game would be so much more fun if there were frequent updates and balance changes like in other popular PvP games.
Instead, Arenanet just keeps it stale and boring.

They would actually need a balance team in order to do that. They just have that one guy who doesn’t seem like he really has a whole lot of interest in gw2.

If you test this you will see it really doesn’t take a scout in every tower. It only takes a few players willing to kill some time and get killed in the process moving between towers and camps.

Many of us have already been doing this, keeping track of upgrades on ours and the enemies’ stuff. It’s the same idea, simply more diligent and prepared to die.

Except in reality it just turns the map into pure offense with a little focus on defense. Look at the TC EB map on reset. I think Anz and Mendons belonged to BG/JQ more than TC.

My facts are pretty straight man.

But u had a a dev in your guild that you could conversate with, attach a mentor to him etc, but u decide to “Push the WvW expirience” here isntead of there.

I don’t think you understand how the adopt a dev program worked. In this particular case, the dev WANTED to run his own build. Why? He is the lead of PvP. He was comfortable with the build and had no interest in WvW after the 3 week period.

There is no point is trying to change the opinion of someone who was just visiting.

They run 2 cele eles because rather than have a full bunker on the team they opted for more rounded out builds that can do multiple things well with good mobility. Not because a cele is a better bunker.

Nothing for roamers to tap, don’t want to cap empty towers because I don’t care who wins the week. Capping camps with NOBODY showing up to defend since they have no clue it’s being taken. Who honestly thought this was a good idea?

You won’t even get a no. Anet does what they want when they want, I bet none of them even play WvW anymore.

I think it was more that the development team looked at their accomplishments for the year and saw:

1. EotM: Failure. Turned into a PvE karma map in what was supposed to showcase the very best of ANET ideas.
2. Seasons: Failure. Pretty much wrecked the WvW experience. So many people only play during seasons now.
3. Siege disabler: Wrong implementation. I give them credit at least for changing the way these work recently
4. Golem mastery: Yawn
5. Color commander tags: Very useful…. for PvE

So if that was your yearly performance review, what would you do? You’d try to quickly implement something that would be a win. Unfortunately, the outcome is that no swords was another horrible idea and the killing people for score has too small of an impact to be noticeable.

A lot of solo players don’t care about the leaderboards. We solo queue into ranked queue just so that we do not need to play the 3 horrible maps. It would be nice to actually have good matches along the way. Just saw another 500-75 or something. Such fun.
