Unfortunately, it is still bad. ANET made a lot of mistakes with the new methodology, but one was taking rank into account in any way. I bet most people have more than 1 account at this point and so it messes everything up.
It is hard to take your post seriously when we don’t know any of the mechanics yet. Claiming any one particular class is going to be super strong right now is a bit naïve.
None, both of those builds are only used by low IQ players who can’t play a normal build.
Someone got beat by a turret engi and mm necro.
Last week the bug was still existing / not fixed.

I don’t understand the point of your thread. There are always hard counters to every class. A meditation guard should beat a thief every time.
I’d prefer to see voting removed from ranked queue and make the 4 maps random.
Voting is needed in unranked so that we can avoid the horrible maps.
Tiers would be a fantastic idea if everyone did solo queue or if everyone on a team was in the same tier. What happens if a person from tier 2 parties with a person from tier 5?
Turret engis have been broken for a long time at the PUG level. In high end games, they are really not much of an issue.
The problem is that 95% of the game is PUG. Think about it. All hot join, and I’d bet at least 85% of unranked and ranked queue does not include a full premade team. Premades who can communicate well destroy a turret engi.
That’s why the spec is considered broken. It needs to be fixed.
That said, it isn’t the only engi spec that is OP. The other spec IS viable at top end play and still wrecks at the PUG level as well. That’s a bigger issue.
One turret engi is totally manageable.
But go fight vs 3 turret engis + 2 bunker guards on foefire and then come back and let me know your opinion then.
I have, 3 HGH engis > 3 turret engis
I love turrets b/c the the best counters are some classic builds that haven’t seen a lot of play lately.

This happens to a lot of professions. Personally, I am fine with rangers and their damage. I would like to see signet of stone extended to 8 seconds, but only apply to the pet. The invuln from physical damage to the ranger is way too long.
I will not be playing pvp in any form until this happens, ZERO invisibility. This mechanic absolutely without a doubt has ruined the pvp game for me. FLUX IT!

I like the idea of reward tracks in WvW. That would be a nice addition. I’d want to see rewards nerfed in EotM at the same time though.
It has to be the first half of this year OR they need to figure out a way to add new content between now and the release.

Or here is a novel idea…. actually build a matchmaking system that matches people based on actual ranked match results. That keeps the noobs playing together and it allows people who have done well to play together.
Maybe ANET will do something like that some day.

@OP: No reason to apologize. Just understand that the spec takes no skill to play. I use it as well when I am bored and want easy mode.
The issue is that if they buff they, it has to be only in PvE. minions are already strong enough in PvP
I wouldn’t get excited. Thieves should get the weakest of all upgrades since we have the strongest class atm.

In WvW, it is a decent roamer, but others are definitely better.
PvP is dominated by engis and eles.
PvE: No one would pick a thief over a guard or warrior or ele. In fact, most don’t want a thief.
Thief vs my mesmer:

Hot join is a random join to try out new builds with the ability to leave or see what other people are doing. Unranked is for those new people to try out those builds in a competitive atmosphere. Ranked is for the quote om quote serious players.
If you play unranked assume to see new people and dont be a doush. I bring this up because i joined a unranked game and this very toxic guy on our team was hating on 2 players since they didnt know what they were doing. They said there were new to pvp. They were all doing this in map chat btw. I went to say to this individual that they were ok and he shouldnt be here if he was so good.

Yeah, solo queue was a toxic bunch (not everyone of course but a large number). This failed new system just pulled them into the overall unranked and ranked matches making the environment bad for everyone. Why hasn’t ANET taken any action on the people who get reported for verbal abuse? Remove the option if you are going to be too lazy to do anything about it.
That said, I disagree that unranked is for new players. New players can play in any of the game modes. The problem is that the new matchmaking is a total fail right now. It is matching new players with top players. That isn’t fun for anyone.
We really need to just admit the old system was better. Bring it back.

Carry class means for me, you have a HUGE influence on the outcome of the game. You push your own team over the edge.
And with thief, if you’re good you can keep the enemy team permanently outnumbered at the teamfight OR gank their damage dealers (mesmer, ranger, necro) OR being better than the enemy thief and still outnumber the enemy OR, worst case scenario, let the enemy sacrifice a cap for winning a teamfight.
I agree, that a thief can have the biggest influence on the outcome of a match, and might therefore be the profession with the best option to carry the match.
Still, mesmer has also the option to carry game. Celestrial are just good for zerging around on a node, but as a berserker profession, you have the power to turn the fights into your favor.
Wow. just wow. You think that a thief can carry a game. Usually the thief is the liability of the team. Give me a strong engi any day.
Im playing unranked as a mesmer and I’ve lost twenty one games back to back. There are some games I was straight up shut down, but excluding those I have been getting top score/kills/caps, I rotate I do everything I know I should do, I’ve been winning 1v1s and ganking, I’ve read guides on the forums and I STILL cant win.
I cant tell if its matchmaking or me, for the record I use the portal really well, but no one ever seems to take it even if I drop it on them and ask for them to use it in /team. If Im doing something wrong can someone please direct me to to a page where I can understand what it is?
Don’t feel bad. The matchmaking is completely broken at this point. I was hoping for a revert to the previous system, but you must understand that ANET doesn’t want to admit a mistake yet. Maybe the old system will be a “feature” of the expansion pack.

If you are seeing an increase in noobs, it means one of 2 things:
1. Your MMR is at the lower end and so you see more of the noob players
2. Matchmaking is broken
Everyone should be allowed to play in unranked and ranked PvP. That’s a good thing. What is broken is the when the matches are not even and the range of MMR is too great.
After the might and engi/ele nerfs.
Are you serious or joking about engi nerfs? 2 seconds is not a big deal.

Engis were OP before and will be even more OP now (relatively speaking to other classes). This game really needs a balance team. Right now, it does not appear that one exists.

Also, population difference is perfectly fine when comparing T1 vs T5 for example. What isn’t fine is when there isn’t a 3way matchup that works, for example T3.

I hope you are right. Simple maps are better than more complex.
That said, ANET seems to believe that adding more gimmicks makes a good map. They also seem to think that most people want more defense. There are definitely those who like defense, but most people fall into 2 categories: 1. Looking for large scale fights. 2. Roamers. Let’s hope those 2 categories are happy with the new map.
From what I hear, the expansion pack is going to be at least a few months out. That means ANET will be looking for some filler content and the standard WvW tournament fits that.
Just pray they don’t roll out the same failed “swiss tournament” as before.
Let’s just hope that Devon and others have learned their lesson after EotM. From a WvW perspective, the map was an obvious failure. From a PvE perspective, it is the best place in the game to karma train or level new alts.
Ok, I’m sooo over the Courtyards matches. Twice I was stuck in Courtyard and all I wanted to do was get the daily done (Defend a point). How in the world am I suppose to get this if all the matches vote for courtyard. I tried leaving the match and it say I couldn’t. I exited to DESKTOP, logged back on a DIFFERENT CHARACTER and I was pulled back to the blasted match I was TRYING to leave. I told everyone, sorry I wasn’t going to play a match I was doom to fail in and everyone got mad at me, but the character I was on wasn’t set up for PVP so I couldn’t do really anything.
THIS IS SOOOOO STUPID! I should be able to leave a map if I want. Give me a “time out” to not play in pvp for 30s-1min, I don’t give a kitten’s behind, but I HATED being forced into a match I didn’t want to play and making the team suffer for it, because I couldn’t do anything.

I don’t think it will kill conquest at all…. Stronghold will bring in a lot of WvWers into the mix. I myself am not interested in the new game mode at all. Will I try it, yes. Will I play it once in a great while, yes. If I wanted to raid strongholds with siege and AI players, I would go to WvW. I think it will bring in a ton of WvW players though looking for a small scale WvW experience.
Pretty sure I can speak for most the veteran PvPers when I say, we didn’t want a game mode that relied on AI & PvE tactics…
It will bring in WvW people only if it is true guild fights….10v10 or more. The smaller fights (1v1-5v5) are more focused to PvP players.

I think you are confusing random and probabilities. Random = equal chance for all maps. Probabilities = if 7 people vote for foefire, then it has a 70% chance to come up (if everyone votes).
What is happening is that people keep voting for foefire. It is a great map, but I don’t want to ONLY play on that map. Random would be better.

I think the best right now is hopefully optimistic. If they take the best of the current WvW maps and build from that, it will be good. If they build form EotM, it will be trouble.

Please show me where you can see your PPK scores for the week. I hear people say that it is valuable or not valuable, but I’ve never seen any data to back it up.
This is also the reason why adding a specific class to the dailies is a bad idea. If you can make it random for each person, it is a great idea. The same 2 classes for everyone just leads to bad matches.
The ready-up button was actually the best part of the entire pvp patch.

Because some people can actually tell how the changes will impact the game. For example, after these latest balance changes, engi is going to be the most OP class by far. It is obvious.
Engies are NOWHERE near as OP as eles. I play both and I freakin have a hard time dying as ele while I burn and blast ppl to death
Until the latest balance patch. Relax, engis will now be the clear most OP class.
A balance patch where clear outliers who pop up multiple times in winning teams are not nerfed is not a balance patch at all.
A lot of people won’t be happy until the blood of Engi/Ele is pooled on the floor and it will have to be removed from the comps. Fair enough, every profession should have their spotlight.
However, you’re straight up too dismissive of the changes we’re looking at right now.
Meta Engi/Ele/War are eating in the realm of 130/190/190 stat reduction, respectively.
That is a nerf that will help level the playing field with professions who don’t have overall as beneficial of might stacking options: (Mes, Necro, Guard, Ranger, Thief.)
With Ele Lightning whip sustain nerfed, Drake’s Breath nerfed, and Shrapnel Bleed duration nerf, these will be felt, and they will be especially beneficial to professions like Mesmer, I can’t see any reason to say literally, and I quote: “Not nerfed”.

I was expecting more Cele Engi nerfs as well as a 50pt stat reduction to Celestial Amulet, but don’t be too upset.
They also did NOTHING to fix the turret engi issue. It is still too strong at all levels except for the very high end matches.
Cele rifle engi still does need some toning down. 2 seconds off the bleed is not enough.
Add the cele nerf(- 50/80 stats) and we’re good.

and the nerfing of might as a result of current inbalances of ele and engi makes zero sense. Here is an idea: Fix those classes. Make it more difficult for them to stack might. It is annoying that ANET takes the easy way out (and just creating more issues) instead of fixing the actual problem.
