I’d prefer a return to solo vs team queue as well but for a different reason. I normally queue solo.
When queuing solo in solo queue
—Filled with a lot of players who think they are experts and are very vocal, but not very little clue how to actually play
When queuing solo in team queue
—Even on a 5 person pug team, the players tend to be much better quality. They communicate better and know how to rotate.
The problem is that the new model brought in all those solo queue players and the overall atmosphere is not as fun.
If you DC and do not reconnect within the grace period, yes.
This is to discourage groups from leaving the match early to invalidate a win for the other team.
I really hope that you aren’t saying that the winning team does not get a win if someone on the losing team deserts. That makes no sense.
I’m hoping the actual implementation is like this:
1. If you win the game and played until the end, you get a win
2. If you win the game, and deserted, you get nothing
3. If you lose the game and had a deserter, the remaining team members do not get a loss or negative mmr
4. If you lose the game and WERE the deserter, you get a loss and negative MMR. Ideally, I’d even make it so they get a double loss.
It doesn’t need to be a net sum zero of wins and losses.
I do not mind the long time between balance updates. It takes quite some time after an update for the meta to settle and for OP builds to become clear. Even given this, every 4 months would be more reasonable.
Yeah right. People knew within about 2 weeks of the last patch that d/d cele ele and cele rifle engi were OP. People have known for the last year that turret engi is OP in anything other than high end play.
The problem is that instead of incremental fixes to the fix issues, ANET waits 6 months, releases a ton of changes all at once, and then just breaks balance in a different way. It is a horrible balance methodology.
If they want to be like esports, they need to balance like esports.
I assume MMRs will reset at start of a season if W/L does as well.
Otherwise pre-season start will be a tank-fest.
or maybe they can build a leaderboard based on MMR. I think pretty much everyone knows the current leaderboard system needs a reboot. It measures time played more than anything else.

So far today (and I assume you’re taking about today’s update) you’ve had 1 blowout. It was all solos, and had even ratings and ranks.
You really need to stop using ranks. Use only actual gameplay results. If someone has no gameplay results, then let them start at the bottom and work their way up.

I actually like this idea. A JP with a chest at the top that gives some of those PvP track reward potions. Just make it so that people actually need to do it and not just take mesmer ports all day.
The OP is actually correct about the end result, but wrong about the intent. I doubt ANET said to themselves “Hey, let’s dumb down the game”.
The issue in general is that when ANET makes a balance mistake, it takes them way too long to fix it. We’ve all known about the problems with ele and engi for quite some time now. Why does it take ANET so long to do something about it?
Most of this is a bit of a load…….EotM has all of the aspects the major threads at the time were crying for. Everyone was demanding some type of general overflow for WvW due to queues. Then the forums were arguing over choke points and weather effects, and bridges. So they gave the squabblers exactly what they remade threads on over and over. now the same squabblers cry because they got exactly what they cried for, and it turned out not to be what they wanted.
lolol. You clearly weren’t around at that time. You are only correct about one thing: people wanted a place to go when there was a queue.
No one wanted most of the rest of the stuff you mentioned. No one wanted new boss mechanics. No one wanted new PvE content in EotM. No one wanted weather effects.
If you had actually been in the beta, the comments from users was that EotM was TOO PvE. The other main comment was that there were too many chokes points and it didn’t allow for many players for group fights. Guess what changed as a result of those comments? Nothing.
Oh, and go ahead and argue my point about how ANET said directly that the forum users do not represent the views of the majority of players.
Another reason why EotM should be considered PvE.
I don’t think anyone can really say that PPK was successful. How much of an impact did it really have? Personally, I’d like to see a test where we can actually see the PPK score for a particular week.
That will show us whether PPK matters or if all 3 servers are roughly equal.
Points mean nothing if you’ve died 15 times. or if you are on a rampage and have over 20kills…
We need an actual rank to be shown over our account / characters, and a decent scoreboard in which we can actually see what went wrong with the game we lose / win.
If you lose a game 100-500 and everyone on both teams have around 100-150 points, there is no way to actually measure how you lost other than raging at someone else with the lowest points.
It isnt possible to show this in an objective way. What stat shows that someone rotated properly? What stat shows that someone knows when you fight and when to move on? What stat shows whether your team never had a chance between the other team were using broken specs?
I don’t agree that people using this bug should be banned. Let’s just hope ANET fixes it on Tuesday.
I do however think that anyone who is using a MACRO should be banned. ANET has said those are against the rules, so hopefully they do something about it.
Any of you guys who just post classes seriously need to rethink before you write things. Classes are not OP. Certain specs within the classes are OP.

Not only is celestial OP (because it gives you way more stats). But in addition, other things like fire and air sigils are very strong and should be nerfed probably.

Also depends on your team comp. Given how broken a lot of specs are right now, it is pretty obvious who is going to win the mid fight before it even starts.

You can karma train perfectly fine regardless of your map color. Switch maps until you find a good instance.
ANET: I propose changing EotM to EotKT. Edge of the Karma Train sounds so much better.
I think everyone knows engis are OP right now. cele rifle engi and turret engi both need big nerfs.
That said, I personally don’t have a problem with the supply crate.

Are you serious??? 6 months is NOT fine. Do you really think that if we wait 6 months, someone is going to decide that one of the specs below are ok? People who play PvP have known for multiple months that these specs are broken. The only people who don’t realize it are ANET.

We really need a balance team in GW2. It feels like there isn’t one.
Also a good reason why it was a bad idea to separate team leaderboards from solo leaderboards. 99-0 is definitely impressive for a team. It would be 1000x more impressive if someone did that by doing solo queue.

Oh great powers that hang out watching us from above, we that are the small minions of WvW hear my plea! We the few, the strong, the quiet types beseech you to consider the following factors. (okay that was me being silly)Rarely do I make such posts but few have meant as much as this one to I and my guild, and my server. To those that like battle and fight, No White Swords has been a surprisingly good thing for WvW. I myself was actually AGAINST the idea when it was first announced and dreaded it terrible. Please bring them back to us someday…
1. More rotation While, servers are being more active in watching their towers, at the same time, people are really picking their battles over what is important to watch and what is not. There are still some who stalwartly hole up in a tower wasting tons of time and money on a tower that will fall when they go to bed. But for the most part, people are moving more, more movement means more challenge and action in WvW. No its not a karma train as others feared, as Karma training happened in WvW regardless of white swords or not. What it is, is more strategic and tactical.
2. Field fighting increased I was surprised by this, more people are now engaging groups head on at the southern part of the borderlands. Instead of holing up at the bottom of a borderlands, they are going straight for the source instead of waiting endlessly in keeps for the zerg to attack. People are engaging every group they see immediately as not engaging them means they are a hidden unknown force and suddenly that fortified keep or tower will change colors.
3. Havoc teams just became more effective. Less blobs! Everyone complains about zergs and no, that will never go away its an integral part of WvW but at the same time, 5-10-15 person Havoc teams now have so much more effectiveness in once in a while snatching a keep! This is amazing!
To summarize, no white swords have lead to, more strategy and tactics, groups breaking into smaller bits to attack several things at once, small groups gaining effectiveness, more field fighting and people getting outside of thier towers!
Now there are obviously cons to it, which I am sure that when others read this a cavalcade of people will be quick to point out. However, I dont suggest we just keep White Swords, I suggest that combined with other important changes that I hope are coming down the line to WvW this could be a very good change. (Scoring/population changes)
At the very least please consider running this event from time to time. Change is good, even a small change brings new life to things and keeps us motivated.

Wow. Not sure where you play, but it is completely opposite in T1.
1. It is a karma train here. There is no point in defending.
2. Less open field fighting
3. Havoc teams are LESS effective. If we can convince someone to sit in a tower, they can easily see when a havoc team attacks now. It is MUCH better to stay in the blob and just knock down any defenses.

You need to understand the history of this channel. This forum was pretty toxic in late 2013. ANET had a vision for WvW and the ANET lead told the people on this forum that they do not represent what WvW people want. That didn’t go over well. ANET decided to show everyone here that they knew better.
The result was launching EotM. It was the very best of the ANET WvW lead’s idea. They were all excited when the map rolled out. Unfortunately WvW players shunned the map and instead it turned out to be the best PvE karma train map in the game.
The WvW lead went away after that. Not sure if he got reassigned or is just in hiding, but he hasn’t been visible at all.
This should definitely be removed from the daily. I think it also creates some of the current matchmaking issues.
The class certainly is not braindead in tpvp when playing against good teams I can tell you that. You actually have to know how to use your skills and how to manage your pet by canceling their f2s, dog knockdown, etc.

This is something that I wish they would change about PvP. The whole point of PvP originally was that everyone had equal access to traits, armor, and weapons. Now people who play more get access to additional traits and those with extra gold get access to new sigils/amulets.
Everything should be unlocked by default in PvP.

If the match gets confirmed, which happens before map vote, they will take a ladder hit (and dishonor, if enabled) if they are not present when the instance starts.
Once you hit confirm, you are locked in.
It would be better if you ran another check AFTER the map selection.
It is your job to ‘shut-down’ the turrets while the engi is not there to protect the turrets. Deactivating the turrets if the engi is not there would reduce the utility of the turrets significantly. This would basically make the turret engi build even more glued to a point than they currently are. Why would you want to reduce the amount of strategy that can be used.
Yeah, because we go into PvP to fight PvE.
Yeah matchmaking is broken at this point. It’s just not fun.
The leaderboard currently has 2 people with under a 50% winning percentage in the top 5. Seriously?
I sometimes wonder if ANET has anyone working on balance full time. I just can’t imagine why it takes so long to balance obviously broken specs in the game. As I like to say… If ANET wants to be esports, they need to balance like esports.
As for the new changes, I do like that they at least tried something. It is good to see some developer involvement. Contrast that to WvW, where there seems to be new vision for that game mode. The point is that some changes are better than none.
That said, the new matchmaking isn’t working. The old system was definitely better. At first, I did like combining into ranked and unranked queue, but now I realize that solo and team was a much better setup. I wish they’d revert to that model.
Everyone, except for ANET and turret engis, know that the spec is overpowered. Hopefully ANET will also understand that soon and address it.
It seems the queues times are a lot longer and the matchmaking is much worse today. It seems as if one of two things are happening:
1. A matchmaking change was implemented today that made things worse
2. Very few people are playing PvP today

I knew they were fake when I asked grouch about Time Warp and he said “Why does TW need a buff, its already strong”. Also I’m glad those Mesmer changes didn’t went through, the icd on halting strike would kill interrupt Mesmer completely.

5 PUG should NEVER be matched against a premade. NEVER.
In ranked queue (where the sucky maps don’t exist), I’d prefer the selection to be random. I like the variety between the 4.
In unranked queue (where the sucks maps do exist), I’d either prefer the sucky maps be removed, or at least 2 people need to vote for a map for it to be an option.
Two options:
1. They go in and 2v1 the engi (out rotate the other team)
2. They waste a lot of time trying to 1v1 the engi. They may win, but the time investment isn’t worth it.
Move it to OS? No thank you. That area is intended to be a free for all. No PvE should exist there.
As to the actual crafting stations, I agree that people shouldn’t be crafting in WvW. That said, some of those people may just be getting an item from their bank vs actual crafting.

my underlying belief is that I believe Cele Engi and Ele are too good.

In general, the changes are better than what we have today. They just need to work on reducing ele a bit more (lightening whip, remove a blast finisher, etc) and reducing the effectiveness of spamming nades as an engi.
The funny part though was that the changes would be released until after the world tournament season 3? What is that June? I doubt they would go 9 months inbetween balance updates.
Players: 6 months is too long for balance updates. If you want this to be an esport, balance it like other esports.
ANET: cool, we will wait 9 months instead.

D/D cele ele
Rife cele engi
Turret engi
All three need a nerf.
These are all valid concerns.
On paper, the patch was the most significant improvement to PvP that has been seen since Tournament Tickets were overthrown.
It hasn’t lived up to the theorycraft in any way. The multiple matchmaking fields that were added (Profession MMR, balanced # of professions, balanced number of premade vs. solo queuers) aren’t working as intended (or at all?)
The solo queue playstyle experience took significant steps backwards. Without these crucial matchmaking fields working properly, it’s just suicide to solo queue into ranked as an intermediate to high MMR player.
There’s not been any communication from Anet as to why the ranked tPvP experience is not living up to the pre-set expectations, maybe there will be talk on that soon.
Without being overly emotional or exaggerating, I wouldn’t be opposed to a full roll-back of the matchmaking & separate queues for Solo and Team queues. The map vote system is great though, props to whoever made that happen..
