Changing turret engis won’t change the fact that engis in general are still OP in PvP. People who play turrets now will just change over to cele rifle nade spam, and then we’ll be sitting here complaining about that for the next 6 months.

Some of the people in this thread scare me. They want buffs to NPCs or new guard abilities? You have PvE for that.

The issue with the game mode is that it is TOO much about the NPCs. The player aspect is almost secondary. I want to see player kills/death count for a lot more than they do today.

This is a fantastic idea. How about there be a solo queue and a team queue! Imagine if ANET had such a great idea and then didn’t change it for a poor idea.

Two points though:
1. Good teams don’t queue in unranked. It is typically new teams or those wanting to mess around with new specs.
2. The issue is the matchmaking. There should never be a PUG teams vs a 5 person premade. NEVER. I don’t care if the 5 person premade has been waiting 30 minutes. If they are not happy with the wait, then they can queue into ranked.

1. Should definitely not be in the same queue as conquest when it launches

Engi only needs one adjustment: Remove the water field from healing turret.

loosing vs turret engi is the actual proof of your scrublife. like, just use a ranged weapon and kill the rocket turret first. no so hard bruh, dude has no stunbreak it’s easymode.

I’m sure you do kill them from range. And after 4 minutes or however long it takes you, you’ve essentially lost your team the game by being out of place and letting the enemy team scores points while you sat around dueling a turret engi.

Seems to be some confusion, as to how the game is played in regular ranked games the player objective is map impact i.e. capping, decapping etc. However in tournament play the player objective is kills, kills lead to caps. When you play a tourny style solo against a reg ranked team you will probably lose kills mean less than map impact. In this enviroment guarding a point is a good idea not to mention a safe one.

No top team has a player AFK at home all game. It is about rotation, not AFK. You should know that.

I was actually really happy to see a top team running 2 turret engis. Most people on the forums believe that turret engi is only good for low skill games. Today, all of those people were proved wrong.

Maybe now the ANET balance team will actually do some work and fix it.

I keep telling this to people over and over. It would be incredibly easy to balance engis. Just remove the water field from healing turret. That’s all that needs to be done.

and how does this fix the cele rifle nade spamming spec? If they nerf turrets, virtually all engis will play that spec instead. It is super powerful and not very difficult to learn.

Engi sustain is the problem. Sustain is what gives turrets a chance to kill you, and gives nade spammers the chance to spam more nades.

I actually think this is a good idea. Just put the people on the sample accounts in their own instance and don’t let them join any of the others. In a match of course they can be mixed with everyone.

I tried to rate this on my overall impression for how the build performs versus how much effort is required to do well with it. Some builds have a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling, which skews my rating of it.

This list is good. The only change I’d make is to move cele rifle engi to the easy category, at least it is for me.

It isn’t universally hated by any means in my opinion. Personally, I am all for it. In my opinion, the folks that dislike it, have created their own idea on how to do things, and chose to speak negatively about out of the personal bias of their subjective opinion.

Correct. Open field is not universally hated. There are plenty of people who have no fighting skills and siege is the best way for them to enjoy the game.

Here’s what it comes down to:

-They’re good on point.
- Enough damage/cc to kill people (especially glassy builds, ones where people like to pretend trying to burst people down are “skillful”, but thats another story)
- They don’t get slapped around like a thief/Shatter mesmer would like.
- People hate AI.
- People refuse to see any downsides or listen to logic.
- Engineer is flawed, and must play a kit build or otherwise they’re “too easy”, thus, taboo.
- People hate anything they have ever died to.
- Rather than adapt, people prefer to nerf anything that pops up that counters them or slows them down.

Most things fit into these categories, I’d say.

Oh no, engi is easy in general. It isn’t just a turret engi thing.

I should clarify that of all classes, it was the easiest for me to learn. Maybe it was another class for some people.

Hardly. I played both, and frankly turreter seems a bit more complicated, since positioning is more difficult (you can’t just run to the nearest team fight without your turrets). And spirit ranger was definitely a stronger build. It got nerfed, and it was about time. I wish turreter will meet the same fate. But I find funny that players who had no shame in playing spirit ranger are so prude about turreters.

So basically, brain dead spec vs slightly more brain dead spec. Once ANET hires a balance team, I’m sure this will be resolved.

You guys still don’t understand that if turret engis are nerfed, everyone will just migrate to the nade spamming cele spec. Engi is just overly strong right now in general.

ANET likes easy fixes. If they want to balance engi, it can be done with one easy change: remove the water field from the healing turret. It is sustain that makes both the turret engi spec and the nade cele spec so strong. This will reduce that sustain.

As i wrote it is fine that anet’s accepted that( for me it is still kittened and not gonna make UD there, even if i will make it in next 2 years and after all other players), but guilds don’t have other place to fight than borders and ppters are bullying them by flaming and engaging their fights.

Queues because of who? Who is “them”? Players who are playing in an acceptable, and specifically approved manner?

It appears to me that you are complaining to try to have others forced out of there, for playing differently then you, so that you can get yourself and and others who play the way you like in.

It is tough to beat a thief with a power build. As long as they are smart, they will avoid your wells and fight you once those go on cooldown.

As the previous poster mentioned the MMR multiplicator for teams does exist and currently accounts for 25% when predicting which team will win. One of the devs even mentioned in another thread that maybe this number is not high enough and maybe needs tweaking. I don’t know how it works for matchmaking but that was for determining odds of victory which I am sure is linked in some way.

No one cares about the indicator or the projection of who will win. People care about getting good matches and there are still way too many premades vs pug games.

Oh, and I think a lot of people are still upset about losing solo queue.

1. Balance updates are too slow. Any esport game has much more frequent updates.
2. Conquest is not viewer friendly. There are not many big moments. Casual viewers don’t know what is going on.

two points.

1. turret engi has a lot of counters. instead of whining about how OP it is, why not learn to counter it? metabattle has the full turret engi build + the counters for it. everyone complains about how no-skill engi is, but no one wants to increase their own personal skill level to beat them? sounds more like you just want an easy win.
2. have turrets last for TWENTY SECONDS? then they’re literally useless. might as well delete them from the game at that point. all other summons last longer than 20 seconds, save for like, mesmer clones.

say turret engi gets nerfed. okay, fine, whatever. then another build will most likely get buffed in its place — not just for engi, ANY class. then that other build is OP, then the mob will come crying for a nerf, then it gets nerfed and something else gets buffed… do you see what i’m getting at? it’s a never-ending cycle.

You do know there are other classes in the game besides turret engi right? A person can’t spec specifically for turret engi.

I sure hope that rifle isn’t the thief weapon. Thief is missing one weapon set and that is melee condi. That way they could move dancing dagger to to that weapon and add something more appropriate to d/d.

The reason turrets are so effective is because engis have so much sustain. This change would help that. It would also reduce the effectiveness of the other OP engi spec, the nade spamming cele build.

This will not be popular, but engis can be balanced with one small change: remove the water field from the healing turret. That will help balance the turret engis at lower levels and will balance the nade spamming cele builds at higher levels.

I’d rather have a mesmer on my team than 98% of thieves out there. Unless a thief is one of the top 10 in the game, they are not very good. Having a thief is basically like being in a 4v5 from the start.

What? Engi is one of the absolute easiest to play. It is a fantastic roaming class.

It isn’t as popular in zergs simply because it doesn’t offer as much as GWEN.

Note to all: If you insist on just staying on a point all game and not moving, at least do it on mid or far. Ideally far since most pug opponents will tunnel vision on that point all game.

Easiest class to play? Engi. Why? At lower levels you have turret engis and at higher levels you have nade spam cele builds. Even better at higher levels, the main engi counters are not part of the meta.

Hardest to play?
Mesmer/Necro- Mesmer is probably in the worst spot in general right now. Necro isn’t a lot better.

Honorable mentions.
Easy to play- longbow power rangers. It is easy to pick up and does well anywhere except at the highest levels of play
Hard to play- Thief. This is the class that loses more games for teams than it wins. Unless you are one of the top 10 thieves in the game, I don’t want you on my team.
