I barely see any P/D Thieves (in WvW). Mainly because Necro is overbuffed and people seem to run tons of condition cleansing and melandru/lemongrass, etc just to have a chance against them. Maybe its just the servers we’re competing against though.

Agreed. P/D thieves are very much the exception. Most roamers run a D/P set up. Zerg thieves use the set up that allows them to port back to the waypoint after they die.

As to the original post. I tried the spec in WvW, but still think that a 5/0/30/15/20 set up works better FOR ME. Even though the spec isn’t ideal for me, I respect that you posted it here.

ANET changed the name from WvW to SiegeVSiege for a reason. They think everyone just wants to use siege equipment and use wxp to get even more siege skills. I heard a rumor that coming soon, you will not be able to use any weapons and instead everyone will be given an AC when entering the game mode.

Last Refuge is fine as is. It actually is quite the life saver. Thieves just need to learn to watch their health and understand how the skill works. Once they do, they will see it more as a benefit.

If someone wants to leave, they can. If they are losing and need to escape, do it. The thief class has the ability. Just be honest with yourself though and if you escaped from a 1v1, the other player is better than you.

So you want to design wvw to get away from zerging but due to the technical limitations of your servers and the effect they have on aoe limitations you can’t? And yes 5 player cap on aoe means it is easier to group up to reduce damage and cc.

One thing to remember. A lot of us LIKE zerging. Changing the gameplay away from that would lose a lot of players. Instead, there need to be some newer smaller maps that cater to people such as yourself who want smaller scale combat.

It depends when you stack. No good commander stacks during combat other than for water fields and that’s not more than 5 seconds at most. Commanders who try to stack more than that during combat will die.

Now outside of combat, there are a lot of reasons to stacks. Some are:
1. Supply count
2. Group people back together when running to an objective (prevent the snake effect)
3. Stack might prior to a combat

I understand you got nerfed in last patch alot classes did put chill out do like thieves in my guild do go condition spec or somethging if you get a bit armor on urself you are impossible to kill beacose eaven when you are not shadow spec you always have way out of combat i dont say its OP or something or thieves are op you just play different (I also know you dont work so well in PVE accept COF and fractals were you are needed) but you are only class who can leave comabt and heal up during fight so be happy abouth it.

For those people talking above about how the Developers can’t talk about stuff that’s in progress as it may not happen, here’s a little insight for you: Development studios plan this stuff out in painstaking detail, doubly so on a two week cycle. When they have nothing to share it’s because nothing is in-progress. From that you’re left to assume that stuff might happen, but who knows when as it isn’t planned into a build/release… and if it doesn’t make it into a release schedule, or covered via a plan, then it’s simply not a studio level priority.

What will it take for Anet to realise that the closest thing they have to hardcore endgame is WvW… and Mortar Mastery after several weeks of silence doesn’t cut it.

Devon, can you share anything we may see in the short term? No dates, no time scales, just what exactly is the focus of the WvW development team at the moment? Is a new WvW map planned this year? Or is it on the development plan for next year?

ANET is trying really hard to get people to care about PvP. I’d love to see the metrics for the amount of time people spend in PvP vs WvW. I suspect we would see a higher amount in WvW. If that is correct, ANET has the wrong development priorities.

As to my earlier message, look at what we receive for WvW this update. A new progression skill. Wrong WvW priority once again.

I think the frustration from a lot of people is the priority of changes within WvW. It seems the priorities are about increasing siege equipment, adding new progressions skills, and adding items such as traps. None of those really add to the value of WvW. Instead I suggest the following priorities:

1. Skill Lag
2. New Maps
3. New Game Mode Dynamics

Skill Lag;
Everyone knows what this is. No further definition needed.

New Maps:
Why not introduce some 2 server maps. It would be nice to alternate 2 and 3 server weeks. For example, week 1 is server 1v2, 3v4v5, 6v7, 8v9v10. Week 2 is 1v2v3, 4v5, 6v7v8, 9v10. This allows for new matchups on a week by week basis for everyone except for the top 2 and bottom 2 servers. The random number generator used today could be tossed

New Game modes:
GvG has become a lot bigger. Allow for a custom map that allows 20v20. Put a capture point in the middle and just let to two sides fight. No siege. The team that takes the point gets 10 points for their server (or whatever number). If you added spectator mode to this, it would probably end up being more popular to view than a PvP match. The map itself doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs an open field.

I am sick of seeing these. Ive had Last refuge since a 4 days after launch, and its never been a problem, why? Because Im not a bad thief who doesnt pay attention to stuff, I keep an eye on whats going on. Learn to pay attention, and it wont cause you any issues!

Please don’t defend the literal worst trait and skill related idea in the entire game.

Last refuge is a fine trait; you just need to learn to watch your health. It definitely has saved me more than hurt.

Is anyone else in this game frustrated with how they keep giving thieves and mesmers (which were more than powerful enough to begin with) new abilities to make them more powerful?

My main is a lvl 80 ranger with all exotics and a crit build and I don’t stand a chance against thiefs, mesmers or necros with their new torment condition.
My point is, if you are going to buff those classes, than please buff all the rest as well so that the game is still fair in WvW.

I’m assuming you are either joking or new to WvW. Thieves and mesmers? Seriously? Those classes are good at picking on out of place new players but that’s about it. The current meta for WvW is about zergs. The strongest classes right now for zergs are warrior, guard, necro, and ele.

We play for fun, not for scores. We play every day, and the weekend is not our strong point because we get the same numbers over the weekend that we do on weekdays. If we get beaten by 200k, so be it, but we’re still gonna have fun and get badges.

Probably my two favorite servers to fight against. FA and Kain both bring the fights.

Last night, I was playing in KNBL and watched wave after wave of Kain attackers trying to reclaim their garrison. Most servers give up after a few attempts. You guys have a never say die mentality and looking at the map this morning, it appears you were successful in retaking the garrison. Great fights for sure.

I originally had this post in the Elementalist forum but you guys really take the biscuit when it comes to complaining so I moved it here

Assuming patch notes are real then ranger pets are getting nerfed into the ground and cutting overall ranger profession power damage output by at the very least 15% depending on build. But you guys i guess are happy about this since it was because you elite professions kept talking smack about ranger pets because you were too lazy to learn how to dodge their attacks.

Rangers have to constantly adjust their builds because of all the nerfs we get. Thieves and other Elite classes don’t; they stick with their one-true-build and tell Anet to nerf Rangers so they don’t have to go through the effort of adapting their builds. We managed to find two viable ones (trapper and BM bunker) because our DPS is apalling and then we get yelled at for being OP because we adapted.

Well anyway this patch will pretty much kill any BM build so I guess you got what you wanted. I wouldn’t worry about the regen bunker rangers either – yes they’re difficult to kill but it’s not like they’re going to kill you first is it? Anyway, you’ll have to start working on ways to get Anet to nerf trapper rangers as you’ll probably be seeing more of them soon. If you can manage that then you’ll probably manage to kill the profession altogether!

I would hate if a thief has this condition on any weapon set or venom.
it should be a trap as it is the most underused utilities we have.

No, it should be on P/D, which is the main condition weapon set for a thief. Ideally it would be on pistol #2 which is pretty useless right now.

Im not sure why thieves got this condition, their condi builds are already insanely powerful in wvw. now a condi that will probably hurt as much as burning when you move while being an extremely agile class that stays invisible, stacking bleeds and running away from you 95% of the time… I think its time to reroll to condi thief.

Condition builds for a thief are NOT strong. They are typically built around bleeds which are easy enough to cleanse.

Your writing style makes my head hurt. As for WvW, if all you do is run and press 1, you aren’t playing correctly. The skill of zerg fighting is knowing when to engage, how far to push, and having a plan to get back out. The best zergs are typically dominated by one guild who have a variety of supporting builds. They are actually quite coordinated with their skill and gear choices.

teldo is a very skilled player and atm the best 1v1 player out there – he beat just everyone on stream 1v1 and he won this 1v1 tournier
he even win sometimes 1v2 in stream or 1v3 and you cant say cause HE (Teldo) do this ingi is OP cause nearly all ingis i saw till now with this teldo build failed hard.

Why do people complain about this so much. Run, press f, and you have your bags. Easy. We do that all the time in our zerg battles. Sure you miss some, but its all part of the game. If you can’t press f, you don’t deserve the loot bag anyway.

That wasn’t a QQ. It was a fact.. TC is a server that I really admire and learned a LOT from. To see them do something that they, themselves, hated? Sucked.

Agreed. What everyone needs to understand is that any server is a bunch of people with different opinions. Does TC look to spawn camp? As a server no, but there are some who do it periodically. Typically these are newer guilds or random pugs.

It’s like when the trolls come on here for any server. Do they speak for their server? No. It’s best to just ignore them.

Personally, I think the fights have been pretty respectful this week. I remember a few days ago when RE and CERN were zerg fighting with SoS in the space between garrison and bay. Both TC and SoS could have been off capping other towers/camps, but were just having fun open field fighting. To me, those types of experiences are what makes the game fun. The scoreboard isn’t that important.

Oh yes definitely, that’s a natural consequence of having more players (of which a large proportion are from PvE).

I’ve noticed that you guys say this a lot: that you have a large amount of PvE’ers. It certainly seems like you’re implying that this is the reason you have bad players. . . .

That’s all and well, but I can tell you that we don’t even consider guesting on TC anymore when we (God forbid!) have to PvE karma train in Orr. We never see anyone there. Hell, just yesterday we tried to guest on TC to run a few quick CoFs and, of course, the dungeon was contested and no one was anywhere on the map to un-contest it.

In my experience, you have no more PvE’ers than any other T4 server and above.

I don’t think many people run CoF by going to the map and then looking for a team. It is waaaaay faster to just use gw2lfg, form a team, and then the first person that has an uncontested WP starts the dungeon.

Can we have more incentive to not Zerg?

There shouldn’t be new incentives not to zerg. A lot of people play that way simply because it is fun for them.

Instead a better solution is new maps that cater more to smaller teams. This way zergs can do what they want, and roamers/small team fans can have what they want

Not here to whine about thieves or to argue about them; so please read and leave and comments/thoughts/suggestions you think would add to the post.

Just getting tired of thieves with their near perma-stealth, and huge burst damage. It’s almost to the point if I see a thief I just go the other way rather than wasting my time with them. Even if I better them in a fight, they have the stealth AND speed to easily out distance me. I’ve read through a lot of posts about them, and besides conditions and pure tanks, I don’t see much that can handle a well played thief.

I would just like people to look at the balance of the class in WvW. Yes, I know that they have to sacrifice a substantial amount of survivability to have such high burst damage, and that would be perfectly fine, if I could attack them. With the near perma-stealth of a well played thief, it’s nearly impossible to ever get a lock on them long enough to do any substantial damage. Even if I do enough damage to the point of killing them, then they simply stealth and run. It’s pretty hard to keep up with a thief, especially when you can’t see them to know which direction they’re going.

I know aoe’s and conditions deal with thieves pretty well, but I’m a Mesmer; with confusion cut in half and not really any other viable condition builds, its pretty difficult to do much. Regardless of that, anet seems to be so focused on the balance of classes as they continue to buff/debuff skills; but what other class can avoid/take as much damage as a thief, while still being able to put out the enormous burst damage as one.

As far as the argument for my gear being to blame, and I’m just whining because I can’t roll full zerker. I have 2.6k armor, 20.3k hp, and about a 6-8k heal depending on clones. Sure it’s not a face-tank build, but it holds its own. I can survive a burst attack from a thief, but by the third come at me, I’m hard pressed to keep it up. No other class has caused me so much trouble, and I’m pretty confident in any other 1v1 or 1v2 situation, as long as a thief isn’t present.

It just seems to me that Anet is relying on people’s lack of ability to balance the thief class out. As it does take considerable skill to be able to play the style necessary to keep the perma-stealth and keep the damage output peaked.

Please keep comments civil, this is not a post to beg for a thief debuff; I would just like to see other’s thoughts on the class, and possibly help me to better myself against them.

I can’t remember the last time I died to a thief in WvW. I really do not understand the concern here. WvW by nature is a zerg battle. I rarely even see thieves in that area. The current OP classes for WvW are warriors, guards, and eles. Those the ones to watch for.

@OP. I agree with a reduction in world XP. I do not agree with the other options.

World XP should work like this…. Every server currently has a ranking. 1-24 in NA.

Rank 1: 50% the world xp as normal
Rank 12: 100% the world xp as normal
Rank 24: 200% the world xp as normal

Every other server than is on a sliding scale based on their position (example: rank 2 might get 55% of normal)

we got into a fight with a mesmer.

Got mesmer down. was about to use the stomp.

I had 12 k hp left of my 20 total..

I saw a poff of smoke.. and then i was dead. looking at the target that killed me.

My first reaction was… wtf realy ?? 12 k hp.. insta killed. on heavy armor… seriously.

WTF is wrong with the Designers that should balance this game.

On top of the supreem mobility on a thief. it has invisibility. that not even Dots uncloak… they dont even leave a bleeding trail or anything… just… gone.
And Also thieves have this stupidly insane op burst dmg, wich you cant realy protect yourself against… your dead before you react.

Because the fight is like this most of the times:
I target a thief.. i start to shoot at him..he notice he gets dmg and vanish…
switch weapons to prepare melee…
2 seconds later. you see a poff of smoke around you.. THIEF…
You start to swing.. “my hp is fine, i get this”… “WTF.. iam down already ? its 2 seconds into fight”…

My warrior in 20 k hp.. have actually been 3 hitted by a thief..
It was the most stupid thing i have ever seen.
Sure, that thief had full zerker gear and low hp…
but who needs hp if you can 3 hit 20 k hp…

Feck, i dont want to know the dmg they can do against Light armor.
But i heard ppl in my guild getting 1 hitted………..

Maybe they should increase our base armor ? (like alot)…
Or nerf the thief insane dmg abit ?

I usualy find my thiev very boring to lvl… but iam REALY starting to think about joining the stupidly op side and lvl my thief to 80 also.

So thieves are also super trollers… REALY good balance by A-net…

You completely lack any credibility with this point. Do not generalize all thieves. Sure you got pwned hard by someone but that doesn’t mean all builds have enough damage.

P/D, S/P, and P/P all need damage BUFFS.

Can you fix symbol of swiftness? It is a big problem in WvW. Basically, the symbol does not allow for the stacking of swiftness like any other skill. Here is a scenario:

1. I have 2 seconds of swiftness left. I lay down the symbol of swiftness and run over it. What happens? Nothing, because I still had some swiftness left, the symbol is ignored. Instead it should be 2 seconds + the duration of the swiftness from the symbol.
